Had the watermelon cake at Newton yesterday, worth every single cent. Friendly, helpful staff. Only problem was parking, but that's understandable given the location.
"Strawberry watermelon cake" must try!!! But I have checked the shop close time not match with actual. Closed time at 1500 in Apr.
Black Star patisserie was welcoming and served great coffee and the watermelon cake was amazing. The only thing is that it is a small shop with not much seating area other than that a great experience.
The Insta famous Watermelon cake certainly lives up to the hype... Light, fragrant and delicious. I also purchased the Chocolate Mirage but it wasn't to my liking, however my kids demolished it 😊
I got here late in the day and was lucky to get my hands on the last Watermelon Cake... I highly recommend ordering ahead to avoid disappointment.
Parking is a challenge so be prepared to walk a distance, if your not in a rush make the most of it and enjoy a coffee ☕
Overall a bit pricey, but the Watermelon Cake is worth the experience so give it a go!
Black Star Pastry is famous for the strawberry watermelon cake. Over the years, other cakes are developed and they taste very nice too.
Nevertheless, a tiny slice of cake can cost somewhere from $9. Still worth a try.
Being a Brisbane boy, I had heard of Blackstar's watermelon cake from my friends, and decided it was a novelty worth trying on my recent visit to Sydney.
It turned out to be much better than just a novelty experience, overall being quite refreshing and light. I also tried the Japanese Forest cake, again, something I have never heard of or tried anything like before. I can't say it would be to everyone's taste, but I did enjoy it.
Price wise you can expect to pay $10+ for a slice of cake. They also offer other savoury and dessert pastries that begin at cheaper price points.
There coffee was above average, not something I'd visit the store as the sole attraction, but definitely better than many a cup I've had before.
The Cafe offers limited seating inside, so be prepared to takeaway if busy.
Tried it's signature water melon cake + Ume Forest Cake + orange cake with Persian fig + Chocolate Brownie AWESOMELY DELICIOUS!!!
Friendly staff, always serve with smiles. Will definitely visit more.
Amazing quality ! Amazing service ! I bought limited edition Truffle chocolate Mirage for my sister.. Trust the taste was so good and yummy, I can't resist myself to stop taking each bite of this yummy delicious cake.
I bought this cake special for my sister birthday, We have tried the strawberry watermelon before, but this time we decided to go with the different option and yes it was worth to try a new edition!! Omg can't wait to buy one more cake for my birthday as well... Thank you black star for your beautiful yummy cake.
I had their watermelon cake almost 8 years ago and I visited them again recently and the flavour was still so refreshing and delicious. It hasn't changed at all! I also tried their sesame cheese cake. It wasn't overly sweetened and the texture was very smooth. It is still one of my top 5 favourite cake restaurants in Sydney.
