Review Alfredo - Sydney

Gaia
Authentic Italian food. Loved the stuffed eggplants. You have to try the desserts, if you can, all of them! Not a lot of vegetarian options but they did the eggplants without meat for me. The atmosphere is lovely, especially downstairs. A bit pricey but I guess it is fair considering the location and the actual good food.

Beautiful soft and rich gnocchi, medium rare lamb was served soft and piping hot! (Needed a pinch more salt for my tastes, but pretty perfect regardless!) Beautiful atmosphere, music was tasteful and filled the room nicely. 10/10 I'll be back!

Date/time of visit: 16 May 2022 @ 6:40pm (approx) This was a wonderful venue and wonderful dining experience. We were a little concerned about being underdressed (just casual day wear to explore Sydney) and the venue looked fine dining. The staff, though, were great: pleasant, friendly, and relaxed while remaining very professional and providing that air of fine dining. The head waiter (?) was excellent and provided projected that sense of class the restaurant was aiming for, yet making the patrons feel at ease. It was a casual fine dining experience. The food was delicious. We were craving some good Italian cuisine and the restaurant delivered. The antipasto della casa had some exciting cold meats and the bocconcini added a good contrasting texture and flavour. We ordered bread separately but should have realised bread would also be served with the antipasto. Fortunately, the bread tasted great and didn't fill us up. The ravioli of the day was lamb and was delicious - well cooked pasta, tender lamb. The ravioli sauce was amazing. My partner enjoyed her delicious penne con broccoli e gamberi. We also ordered the English spinach salad. This too was great and there was a lot of it (I thought it could do with some thin slices of pear or apple for the sweetness to offset the spinach because it was a large serving of spinach to get through but that's no big deal). Price point was good, especially for the quality and enjoyment of the meal. Venue was cosy and warm; and the staff were great.

Went here for my birthday in May. Great atmosphere inside and very cozy in the colder months. The Beef carpaccio was delicious and we loved 2/3 of the pastas we tried. Got to meet Alfredo himself and he was such a character! Marked down 1 star because the Espresso Martini wasn’t very nice and the Tiramisu was a bit different to the classic and could have been slightly better. I loved the evening though and will absolutely return. Thank you for making my birthday special! :-)

Really delicious food. The Penne and prawn dish was great. I am glad they had an option to order the smaller serve as that was perfect for me. I did find the restaurant too packed though. It would be nice to have a little more room between tables.

Seafood spaghetti came with a rock in our sauce, raised issue with staff and she took the rock to the kitchen and came back advising it is a part of the mussels... It was a solid rock piece i bit into a hurt my tooth with, i then asked for the rock back to look at it and she said she has gotten rid of it. It is very dishonest to get rid of the rock and claim it as apart of the mussels. It was a large piece of rock. The manager then came and said he has no idea cause it wasn't shown to him. The issue was handled poorly by the restaurant and denied entirely. I understand things happen but they were trying to avoid the point of there being a rock in the food. No one had any decency to admit to the fault and getting rid of the evidence. It's a shame that the management does not care enough to handle the situation better and be upfront with the issue. Definitely not a place to return to as there is no customer value. Just be aware of your pasta as dental is expensive.

Ambience (5/5): There was a cosy and homey vibe to this restaurant and an in-house pianist Food (3/5): Food was at best average, nothing extraordinary like the reviews all mention Service (1/5): The waitresses apart which were fine, be prepared to get bad service from senior staff who were EXTREMELY rude and arrogant! Ordered 2 bottles of wine and he couldn’t even be bothered to pour properly without spilling. What’s worse, after bad service the whole night, this guy even had the cheek to ask for a tip!

Booked here for my husbands birthday on Monday night for 3 of us. Was worried the 12yo wouldn’t like s as burying but she had the 4 cheese ravioli and loved it, for a fussy eater she finished first! Was disappointed that I had chosen the pheasant ravioli 24 hrs in advance snd there was none avail. The dessert twill basket dessert also not avail, I’d suggest online putting that this are made Thursdays and can run out over weekends. Had vongole instead and it was delicious. Husband had the pork. Very traditional.

The food & service was fantastic. The cocktail bar downstairs was awesome, the bartender was amazing making fresh cocktails that were to die for..!

Top place. Great Italian food and Codry's cocktails are simply the best. Definitely a place to visit if you are around Sydney!

Fantastic friendly & efficient service. Veal Lemon was to die for, Rack of Lamb was cooked to perfection. Tiramisu and Profiteroles were divine! First visit but not our last! Highly recommend it for a special night out.

Introduced to this restaurant by my sister, it has become our must-do when we visit from QLD. Every dish is delicious, the staff are attentive and the lovely piano man takes requests. We particularly love the gnocchi and beef carpaccio. A definite highlight on our trips to Sydney!

A simple but delicious meal of scallops entree and scallops with penne. Followed with a bountiful affogato. Very satisfying. And courteous attention from the staff.

Amazing food, atmosphere, people and place.

The name says it all: 'authentic'. Great food and no pretense or desire to be the hot new venue, just real Italian food made with passion. Gnocchi was melt-in-your-mouth good and the melanzane was amazing.

Had a lovely night, food was great, would love to see another piano player to enhance the experience.

Well, if you want to have an experience all Italian in looks and taste you can't pass "Alfredo's" just terrific!

Great little Italian restaurant tucked in the Sydney port area. I was there 10+ years apart (I am from Canada) and enjoyed consistently good quality food and atmosphere. The owner was there welcoming patrons and a pianist played requests from guests.

Can't wait to re visit. However, I'd suggest making a reservation. We were lucky they could fit us in. Crab pasta was Bellissimo!! 😊

Great food. Great atmosphere. And the underground bar is fantastic

Not only was the food fantastic, but our night was made superb by the fabulous staff and service. Very rarely do we go out to dinner and walk away feeling as special as we did last Friday night. They were chatty and interested in where we were from. We will definitely frequent this restaurant every time we are in Sydney.

The service was a disgrace. Served our entree in halves as they ran out. Owner didn't Evan come and sort the problem out. Stood out the back hiding. Do not recommend.

It was very good, fresh and tasty! We recomend it!!

Octopus was good. Had the penne with scallops and hazelnut cream. Pasta is al dente. Food is ok. Desserts were ok. Was expecting the flan to be made with custard however it's was a date sponge cake. Cosy restaurant.

I really wanted to like this place - it’s just behind our office and has a homely old school Italian vibe. Came as part of a team lunch so we ordered starters to share and individual mains. The crispy salt and pepper squid was delicious and so was the meat /cheese platter. Seafood with avocado wasn’t great - prawns tasted stale and oysters were actually sour??? As if that couldn’t get worse, my colleague and I ordered the lobster angel hair pasta which was hands down one of the WORST Pastas I’ve ever had in my life. The pasta was almost freakishly salty and the lobster was hard and fishy - clearly having spent weeks in the freezer. Awful and a complete waste of money for nearly 50 bucks a pop. I could cook much better than that at home. To his credit the manager offered us replacements straightaway but could really have been more apologetic. The linguini scampi was much better - scampi was fresher and pasta was tasty. However, for the price you pay there are much better alternatives nearby such as Salt Meats Cheese and Fratelli Fresh. Avoid if possible.

Tucked away in an alley next to the Marriott with the Italy flag waving in the wind, it feels like you might really be somewhere in Italy. Very cosy little restaurant that is suitable for a quiet/intimate dinner. The portions are very generous, so I recommend probably getting a pasta/risotto and a main to share. However, the food was average - with the exception of the prosciutto and mozzarella platter. Pasta was a tad too dry for our liking and oysters lacked of freshness. Tiramisu was served for dessert, but pretty average too.

The manager was extremely cold and unwelcoming when my partner and I first arrived, and made it clear that he was unhappy that we (two women) had chosen his restaurant to celebrate Valentine's Day. The other service staff were fine, but the manager's hostility was so apparent to not only us but the other patrons, that the couple sitting next to us asked us if we were okay, and remarked on the rude treatment we were receiving, looking quite uncomfortable. I'd been looking forward to checking out Alfredo, as the venue was in a lovely spot and the restaurant had received several positive reviews, and it is very disappointing that the manager felt entitled to treat paying customers so poorly and with such contempt. I might be able to excuse brusque service if the restaurant had been packed and the staff were being run off their feet, but the restaurant was almost empty when we arrived and the manager *still* took ages and was incredibly rude and hostile when he did deign to serve our table.

With regards to the food, the dishes were middling to average and quite overpriced ($8.50 for two tiny pieces of garlic bread is pretty laughable). Honestly, you would probably have a better time just making Italian food at home. Would not recommend.

Amazing staff, very caring and courteous.

The food was also great, but vegetarian for the mrs was tough and not the best. She ordered away from the menu, a simple pasta arrabiata, which needed a lot of seasoning.

I ordered the fish special and it was fab!

Really enjoyed Alfredo. Wednesday night in the city, the ambience was traditionally Italian and the service attentive and prompt. But it was the food that was the stand out. Fresh, delicate flavours and pasta to perfection with fresh seafood made the night. Topped off by generous and delightful desserts, Alfredo is a hidden gem in the CBD. Thank you.

We were recommended this Italian restaurant that is managed by an Italian lady that has been in Sydney for the past 20+ years.

All I can say is a total disappointment, I found the food mediocre at best and overly expensive for what it was. I had found a small Italian restaurant on George Street that was a quarter the price and better quality.

One of my favourite Italian places in the city with old school everything. Great service and food with the pasta a highlight as usual. Fabulous waitress to, who mentioned not to order the special as it wasn't made on the premises. Have to appreciate the honesty and good advise. Profiterole ice cream sandwich creation I had for dessert was super generous in size and delicious.
Leave room or share I would suggest for this one. Walked out full and happy not for the first time.

Really poor (read: rude) service and only mediocre food. Took us 30 minutes in a 20% full restaurant to have our drink order taken, had to ask (another 30 minutes later) to put our food order in, then had to ask another 50 minutes later to pay. The man who seated us kept insisting on his own idea of appropriate gratuity (despite the awful service) and requesting cash gratuity (which we didn't have, nor were told we'd need) over credit card. Would not suggest to a friend.

Scampi linguine is yummy though I feel scampi could be better it's a bit plain to me. Lobster noodle doesn't have enough lobster taste as I expected and lobster meat was slightly under cooked to me but overall it's still good. Lasagnette Al pesto is my favorite of the meal. Kids love the plain bread with butter!

Location is good and that's about the only positive for this joint. Food is average.
Service was average- actually had the waitress stick her hand in my face when I said "excuse me" to get a menu, wine was not fresh at all. Would not go back and probably wouldn't recommend.

Went to Alfredo with some friends after sporting it on a walk through the city. The atmosphere is really cosy and welcoming. Live piano music is a nice change. The service was good. The food was very average. For the money we payed I expected better quality food.
I don't think I go back. Casoni in Darlinghurst run circles around this place.

All good at Alfredo. In the heart of the CBD, and a stone's throw from Circular Quay, this is a cosy Italian trattoria with a wonderfully warm feel. The welcome is genuine, and the octogenarian jazz pianist talented and charming. And the food! Altogether pretty awesome, and l had some fussy family eaters with me who agreed.

We started with a shared antipasto, a buffalo mozzarella and prosciutto plate, and a buttery garlic bread, all textbook excellent and inhaled with appreciation.

Although everything that appeared from the kitchen looked appetising, all of us wanted pasta, or risotto at least. And all of them were delectable. My pheasant panzarotti was a meaty, cheesy, pasta square of pleasure. The linguini marinara was balanced beautifully between pasta, sauce and scrumptious seafood. The creamy saffron seafood risotto was full of plump prawns as was a special of prawn and broad bean penne. With a bottle of prosecco, and no chance to make room for sweet treats, dinner resulted in four very happy diners. I didn't pay but from memory the bill was around $250 for a great night.

Service was calm and professional, with a wisp of casualness that really suited the venue well. There was certainly no trading on tourist traffic, which is so common this close to landmark destinations. I can't wait to be back in Sydney to visit again 😊

Just had a terrible experience at the Alfredo Authentic Italian at Sydney CBD. I have relatives visiting from overseas, not speaking the language, and while my cousin was trying to help my aunties to get the orders right the staff of the restaurant (which looked like the manager) asked her to stop talking because it was his job to get the orders, not hers. We wanted to walk away straight away, but couldn't do it, because my Aunty, who is 80 has difficulties walking. It was a very uncomfortable situation that ruined our lunch, and a terrible last experience for them, who are leaving tomorrow.

This is actually my 2nd visit to Alfredo’s Authentic Italian my 1st and 2nd time visiting, I ordered exactly the same dishes. Always good to start with an entree of some kind, and my friend I was visiting with have a thing for carpaccio. Very thin slices of raw meat, with a simple drizzle of olive oil and dressing. This is the beef carpaccio, I’ve had salmon and kingfish carpaccio before, but beef is something new to me. Once you get past the idea that beef has to be cooked, this actually tastes pretty good.

The gnocchi was superb – light as a feather in an excellent cheese sauce. The risotto was also excellent.

Absolutely recommend this place. Ambience has a sense of warmth to it.. Bricks, wood, a live paino with a old man in a suit playing classic tunes... Food is authentic, fresh and delicious. Great culinary experience! Gracia!

Dave. "DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT"....I ordered a dozen oysters Kilpatrick and when they arrived I realised that they were CANNED OYSTERS ( unbelievable ) place in reused oyster shells....the manager was pompas and rude.....and the menu overpriced. When I first walked in this place the manager looked me up and down. If my children and I weren't so hungry I would have DEFINETLY GONE ELSWHERE

Fantastic food and atmosphere. We stumbled upon this gem of a restaurant by chance and will be a regular place every time we visit Sydney.

Hannibal in Sydney. So the Spanish place next door (Tapavino) was rammed but Alredo's was curiously quiet and I was definitely hungry. The maitre d was curiously sour when I walked in alone and I was pointed to a nervous-looking table by the side of the till as if to be watched over. Inside is charmingly simple with bare brick walls and naked cieling joists and I think it pitches itself perfectly as the decor just understates what you will eat. Anyway, I started with a tower of avacado over fresh crab meat over fresh tomatos and all with a little caviar on top which was stunning. For mains I went for the traditional lean pork with cherries and again it was staggering. With a glass of wine ($9 for a glass of anything, Australian or otherwise) and no desert or coffee it all rolled in at $66 so not a cheap night out but when you can smell the succulent vapours coming of your meal from six feet away it makes up for it. I do not know Italian well enough to judge what it traditional or not but I can say this is stunning food in pleasant surroundings and good -if busy- service. The maitre d warms to you if you're polite and civil.

Wonderful food & atmosphere. The food is amazing however this urban spoon is a little misleading as the meals are a little bit on the expensive side. However the meals themselves make up for this as they are amazing!! The live pianist is also amazing!!

Gnocchi mushy, clams sandy, seafood cold, staff nice, don't recommend

Good Italian. A great stop for a relaxing Italian meal. Good service, great food and location. Well worth the extra 2 mins it will take to find it ;)
