Review The Winery - Sydney

Love love love this place 😻! The atmosphere was nice and there was a very good vibe with outdoor seating. All the dishes were cooked to perfection and very delicious 😋! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves outdoor dining. It's a great place to hangout after such a long week at work 😉!

Totally love the Winery, it's such a stunning and beautiful venue. I have been here many times. Today we did the bottomless brunch for my babyshower. It was awesome the food was tasty and the service was great. It's a super popular spot so you need to book in advance. After brunch we moved to the outside area which is such a vibe. They had live music for a Sunday afternoon. I would highly reccomend this place for a special occasion or catch up with friends or a date night ✅✅✅ A strong 5 stars from me 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Great experience and most likely the best restaurant in Sydney supported by Australian Venues Company when most places have a identical menu that is can usually be found at any bistro the rare few like the winery are a step above the rest and give you a unique dining experience. Would go again next time I'm in Sydney and it's worth the above average price.

Went for bottomless brunch, mid December for a Christmas celebration. Food was good, service was okay. If you want to relax and enjoy, this is not the place to go. Half an hour before our finishing time and last courses not even served, manager came around to have the bill paid. Straight after, dessert barely touched, waiters were rushing us out, to the point that 15 mins before the end, were refusing for our drinks to be filled claiming they had called last drinks. Nice place but service is not a vibe.

Bottomless brunch. Wow. It’s like straight out of the movies they continue to fill your mimosa glass with each sip you take. Extremely worth the price for what you get, and you leave the joint absolutely boozed up. Definitely felt the hangover the next day, not sure how much I even drank because they just keep refilling and I just kept drinking 😅 The only poor experience was the Hostess. The Hostess advised that our table wasn’t ready and seated us at the bar for us to purchase some drinks, which was fine because we arrived 15 minutes early for a 2pm booking. Then groups the same size of our party at 2pm just arriving at the door (time lapsed) were being seated at tables that had been set up for 10 minutes or so, we got completely forgotten and after 15 minutes of trying to hail someone down we had to chase down the Hostess to remember to seat us. Other than that experience, menu was great, the olive bread is to die for and staff are super kind and caring!

Beautiful little spot, perfect for a romantic night for two, or to catch up with friends over lunch. Both the indoor and outdoor areas are really pretty, definitely ready for the Instagram photoshoot if that's your thing. Sitting outside on a nice night is beautiful with the fairy lights. There also seems to be a function area upstairs as well. The food and wines available are quite nice, however on the more expensive side so expect that before you come. I have noticed the staff can also be a bit hit and miss. Some super friendly however have encountered at least 1 rude staff member every time we've been...

Me and my friend had an amazing time at The Winery today. Jazzy, our waitress of the night, was very professional. Her service was impeccable and she did provide us great drinks and food recommendation. Thumbs up to Jazzy. The food was really good and so were the drinks and dessert. Truly, a great restaurant located in the heart of Surry Hills with friendly staff and great deco and ambience. Highly recommend it!

This is my go-to place for date night and a girls night out. Fab menu of food and cocktails and friendly service. I really like the outdoor seating section.

Don't usually leave reviews but I was disappointed. Service was slow - doesn't usually bother me but it shouldn't take more than half an hour to get a drink, with your starter turning up before your bubbly. I can forgive this because the staff were very nice and one of them was obviously very new. But then.. the food was mediocre. The fried cauliflower was more like fried batter with the occasional piece of cauliflower thrown in to keep up appearances, and the duck confit was dry and the jus slightly bitter. I have been here before for friday drinks and I would have recommended it, but based on my experience in level 1 dining it's like it has the pretences of being a nice place and none of the quality. Definitely not as good as the menu pricing suggests.

Beautiful place to visit but the service we got was poor. Nobady noticed us when we came. We had to go and ask the staff how to order or is it table service. Since we decided to sit outside we ordered at the counter. We notified the guy that my friend is pregnant and she is not able to eat raw food. He told us that he will write down that the steak we ordered need to be well done. Well when our dinner arrived it was RAW! We asked one of the girl on the floor if she can ask the chef about it. She promised to go and ask. Waiting waiting and waiting. Nothing happened. And then she was serving other tables.. so we decided once again to go and ask by ourselves. The steak was raw and the chef told us, he didn't get any information that we wanted to get the steak well done. I would expect better customer service. Not only the raw food can hurt my friend but also the unborn baby.

I did the bottomless brunch with 8 girls and it was amazing! PERFECT balance of food / drinks, the drinks FLOWEDDDDDD all afternoon! Not once did we have to ask for a single thing! The staff were friendly, accomodating and made a huge effort to ensure our happiness! The venue is chic, fun and hasn’t great energy! The live music was 👌🏽! Cannot recommend this place enough!

1 Star is generous. You guys really ruined a special day for me yesterday. It was my girlfriends birthday and prior I booked a table for 11 people, I have been to your venue before and really enjoyed it but it seems something has changed as it was like Night and Day this time round. When we arrived and our table was located in the corner of the restaurant to squashed for 11 people and very out the way. It been my girlfriends birthday I looked past that having requested a table in the main dining room and not receiving it I was just looking forward to the food. After sat down for around 30 minutes we still didn't receive a server to take our drinks, having gotten up at least 2 - 3 times to ask some one, I knew from this moment on the night was not going to go well.... Finally after around 40 minuets our drinks arrived. Wrong but at least we had something to drink. Knowing it took 40 minuets to order we place order for a round of drinks. At this moment the server took our order. We expressed our concerns about the service at this point and expected to get better. Over a hour and a half later and fed up with not receiving service for our drinks we given up and started getting up and ordering our selfs. At this point the table was getting restless and really putting a downer on the birthday. Nearly 1 hour and 40 minuets into our evening our food arrived. Our Starters, Main Courses all at once?? I mean come on who does that?? This was not asked for and when mentioned to our non existent server it was just shrugged off. Any way when mentioning this to manager he presented us with a free round of drinks... At this point we just wanted to get the night over and done with. 3 of our group ordered the chicken, each one was left due to the fact it was dry and tasteless. This is not how I wanted my girlfriends birthday to go down, I never really complain but you guys really pissed me off and ruined my girlfriends 25th birthday. our bill totalled nearly $500 and honestly not was a joke... Poor poor effort on you guys! I understand this was a Saturday night but come on!

Very disappointing and poor service last night at winery. One of our mains we ordered(gnocchi) had a hair inside we spoke to the waitress and obviously sent it back. They brought a new one out but when we got the bill they still charged us for it!! When we asked the waitress - she said they were only charging us for the second bowl of gnocchi...not the first!!! come on!! When we asked to speak to manager- waitress returned with the bill minus the gnocchi Very bad customer service!!

Such a beautiful hidden gem; the ambience, food and wine are a real treat. I thoroughly enjoyed my birthday lunch yesterday and will be gong back; especially to show off to visitors from out of town.
Andy White
Eye contact please service staff!!! Waited 20 min before I got up from the table and ordered my drink at the bar. No eye contact from service staff at all. V poor. How did the service get worse since my last visit??!!
Kelly Reid
I love this place. Consistently great food and the staff could not do enough to make our experience amazing. Shocked by the negative reviews on here as we've been many times and can't talk it up enough. I can only say form your own opinion

Great place, attentive staff, interesting menu and recommend drinking Giggly Rose

I thought the food and atmosphere were lovely! We were seated up in the Champagne Room which is decorated beautifully, after a helpful staff member on the phone went above and beyond to find space for my birthday celebrations for a busy Friday night. The venue and cuisine was faultless, and while we found most of the staff warm and professional, we were a little disappointed with our waitress, who was sour, abrupt and at times rude towards us. Regardless, we had a lovely evening and 10/10 would recommend to a friend ☆☆
Amber Cameron
Great venue however my experience at the wine dinner was lacking. Took over 15 mins to for bubbles to arrive so first course arrived before it. Not all staff provided an explanation of food or wine but just poured or plonked it down. Food was ok but not that impressive. Will stick to drinks and snacks in future.

I celebrated my birthday there with my friends and I had the best time! The food was great, the atmosphere was great and the service was fantastic ! Thank you to Emily and The Winery team!
Naomi Max
Bottomless Bellinis- great value! Lots of food (including delicious gluten free) and a steady stream of Bellinis. The staff are friendly, the venue is nice- this was my second Bottomless Bellinis experience and I'll happily go again.
Amie Boyle
Champagne room bottomless bellinis - not worth it, rude service.
Lorna Sherlock
Being told on Thursday that your hen party of 35 people on Saturday who had paid $100 was double booked is rude enough. Pair it with being shoved in the corridor next to the other party with their lunch being paraded in front of you while your party get canapĂŠs. Cocktail making they said one cocktail that was extremely unimpressive! The staff were nice enough and tried their best but this trendy overrated overstuffed overpriced bar has just lost 35 potential customers by being too greedy. I would never go again and would never recommend

I have been to The Winery many times and have really enjoyed it, which prompted me to book my sisters post-hens celebration dinner here on Sunday evening. I reserved the table 2 weeks prior to the date; there was no prompt on the online booking form to be able to seek special requirements such as indoor or outdoor seating. On arrival we were shown to our table by the hostess, it was outside and a table made for 4. We had 5 guests so they added another chair which didn't really fit. I asked if there were any other tables available and the hostess made no effort, at all, to accommodate us--in fact she just showed us an identical table right next to the one that was originally allocated to us. I asked for a second time if there was anything else she could do for us, and she offered no hospitality and carried the attitude of 'it's the table you've been shown or nothing'. We took our seats not wanting to make any further fuss, as to ensure my sister had an enjoyable evening. The waiter was lovely, and accommodated our needs, was prompt with our drink orders and even arranged a complimentary cocktail for my sister in celebration of her special occasion. The meals were lovely and sizeable, unfortunately, another guest became quite ill 7-8 hours after eating her fish; as she didn't drink any alcohol that evening or eat any other food, we can only conclude that her fish was not properly prepared and as such made her very unwell. Quite the dampener to what was otherwise a lovely weekend we had celebrating my sisters upcoming wedding. The Winery describes themselves as a place that 'doesn't take themselves too seriously'--I would say, that the front of house take themselves way too seriously, and the kitchen, not seriously enough. Established venue, maybe a bit too comfortable not going the extra effort for customers who are paying good money.

I'd give zero if I could. Had a lovely 4 course meal for $80 per head. Between the 14 of us we had ONE DRINK each! Which the bill should have come to roughly $1500. Yet we get the bill and it was $2500. Where does that extra $1000 come into this! $180 for "admin fee" which we were not told about when booking! You guys have the nerve to charge us the extra which we clearly did not have !! After this experience I don't think any of us would come back. Ruined my friends 30th birthday!
Lynne Clarke
The waitress was slow to serve us. And wasn’t attentive. The champagne served was flat and wasn’t replaced until I mentioned the issue. We ordered lots of starters and asked for the food to be staggered and yet it wasn’t. It was my Birthday celebration and I couldn’t finish and move on to another bar quick enough. Very disappointing and I’m sad I wasted my birthday celebration with a dear friend here at The Winery.
Chicca Fumagalli
From outside there’s just the Pieno bar sign, you have to walk through its courtyard to find The Winery.
The atmosphere was beautiful, it was crowded but we had a good table.
Food was ok, fish of the day tasted better than my chicken. They don’t have many desserts and the service was slow, but overall I think it’s a nice place where to go.
Mathew Hnoudis
What a great find. Their beer choices are limited but the atmosphere was great. Food here couldn’t be faulted. I had the T bone steak and enjoyed every mouthful. All entrees that we sampled were delicious. The service was good... only faults were having to wait at the bar for quite some time to get service and when the wait staff would top up your mineral water with their tap water. I will come and dine here again.
Hungry Vibes Only
Great arvo spent indulging in the Happy Glamper package, which comes with cold cuts, veggies, your own raclette station and wine tasting paddles!

We ordered more food and thoroughly enjoyed the oysters, gnocchi and fries. The Pimm’s jugs are also a must!
Bud Walter
Big gathering catered well! The range of food on the menu was equally good as was the waiting staff. Very popular and very busy. Good night out. A mute point, the background music is quite loud - not a biggie!
Almost tricked by the ice cream look duck liver dish lol. Nice garden like place for group of people to share some wines :) toast soft & crunchy!
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
(3.5 stars)
We'll end the year with some convivial good cheer at The Winery. Armed with a gaggle of gal pals, I descended upon this Surry Hills stalwart for their popular Bottomless Bellinis Lunch ($79/head). Climbing the stairs, you’re immediately assaulted with noise. The room is packed to the rafters, and nearly every diner is a woman with gleaming long hair, clad in either a frock or a playsuit (wardrobe choice will prove important later on). Most are seated at long tables, but there are a few more intimate girlfriend catch-ups scattered here and there. We’re happily ensconced in the room’s sole curved booth, complete with a Perrier-Jouët Champagne button, enticing us to 'Press for Champagne'. We try it, obviously, but sadly it doesn’t make our waiter appear. When Eduardo does arrive, he’s handsome and friendly. He eventually accedes to our early request to get another round of drinks underway. Like most of the women in this room, we’re here to get in some quality drinking time, so it feels a little like being...
Pinicolada
I had the bottomless Bellini set menu from the Champagne Room. Not worth the money. I was still hungry after. It’s not well known but mocktails are also part of package.

I absolutely love this place. The ambience and music is fantastic - the perfect place for a date night or that special occasion. You can’t go wrong.

Was my second visit to this lovely place. I just love the ambience and the vibes which goes with this place. The cocktails served here are just wow! The staff is friendly and serves you with a smile. How much ever the busy night it is, the bar tenders invest their love and time in making the cocktail which is mind blowing. The food is amazing too - maybe they can introduce some veggie options in the menu but a bit expensive. Overall an amazing experience every time I step in.
Food - 3/5
Drinks - 5/5
Ambience - 4/5
Service - 4/5
Value for Money - 3/5
Xlittlecupcake
The gnocchi 🍄 here was my fav dish - also enjoyed the salumi and cheese boards, as well as the aperol spritz jugs.
Duck confit and meatballs were average, the giggly rose 🌹 cocktail was pretty but didn’t taste amazing.
Poppycay
Nice atmosphere, meal portions are small, ghe only outstanding thing about this place are the prices, which are far too high. Worst value for money, would never go back.

Definitely rate The Winery five stars for the service, food and atmosphere. Surprised my friend and took her here to celebrate her birthday and even she was blown away with how wonderful everything was. We were greeted by a lovely waitress called Sophie and she patiently assisted us with our order. There was a dj there which made it even more lively but the music wasn't overly loud which allowed us to catchup without having to yell across the table. We ordered the cheese and cold meat board which were amazing paired with some red wine, the perfect amount of food to nibble on while catching up. The oysters were amazingly fresh and creamy and the duck was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The winery really topped the wonderful dinner off when they brought a rose cocktail with a sparkler for my friend even though I hadn't requested for it, caught us both by surprise! I will definitely come back here.

The winery has a very relaxed environment, which is very good for friends meeting up and enjoy some good food. The chicken pate was probably my favorite dish, and the proportion is huge, as like a starter. The sauce and the eggplant with the pate on the dough just made me feel like Wow! on my first bite. Just delicious😋The zucchini flowers, unlike italian restaurants, the stuffing is not wet, with ricotta cheese, instead it's dry with corn and potato. The beetroot risotto was yum, probs my favorite risotto. The duck maryland was very average, i wished that the skin was crispy, but it wasnt. The duck itself was tender, but not very juicy. I expected a lot more than what it went out. Overall I enjoyed the meal, and I will go back for the pate hahaha😂

Stuff were really warm hearted and the sausage roll is fabulous!
I was not a big fan of sausage, but it do tasty good! With its crispy pastry wrapping around the sausage!

I came for hens lunch yesterday, opting to do the Bottomless Bellinis package. The food was delicious and plenty to go around and there was a great atmosphere in the champagne room. However, myself and a few other guests who are pregnant, had booked to do this package, but a non-alcoholic version (for $45). We thought this would mean that we would get the same bellinis minus the alcohol (but with soda water instead). Instead we were told that our package only included the food and if we wanted to add the non-alcohic bellinis (a dash of fruit juice and soda water) we would need to pay the same price as normal (alcohol package - $79). The other alternative was to just go and order our own drinks at the bar. I don't think I'm crazy to be quite annoyed that we would have to pay the same price as everyone else, when quite obviously alcohol costs a much higher amount than water! I felt really ripped off by this and the lack of understanding was lost on staff.
In future, this venue needs to make guests well aware in advance of how their packages work for no alcohol options and really consider their actions and service. This is quite appalling. I am happy to pay for my own drinks, but it would have been courteous to have this explained clearly in advance, instead of having guests being taken aback at what seems like quite an outrageous deal for people not drinking.

Overall: good food but terribly overpriced. We had 2 meat dishes: wagyu rump and eye fillet plus a glass of shiraz. The steaks were very nicely grilled, nothing to complain. But here is the problem:The steak dishes with condiments that were served with such as mashed parsnip/chips, some veggies and sauce, were what you can expect in a good steak house where you pay $25-$30 per dish. These dishes cost over $50 each!
A horrendously overpriced food!
We thought that for this money we will experience some exquisite and original meal, but in fact it was just that, a well prepared $30 steak.
Wine was good, but as with steaks, overpriced.
Panda Lover
Monday is the steak night! $30 per person for double steak is not bad at all. The steaks were good but the free salad was sensational! Also loved the spicy zucchini flower, very fresh and goes perfect with the avocado smash. Wanna try other dishes!
Eraina Chan
Over rated restaurant. Sitting outside doesn’t make the food better. Over-cooked steak, and small portion.
Would not recommend this place to anyone.
A Guide For Your Appetite
Suprisingly Excellent

We chose to sit outside in the small bar as you first enter into the winery. There was a group of about 10 of us there. We were there primarily for drinks but some of us ordered food and the food was tasteful.

The service was great the place is value for money.

I would recommend that an ATM be put in this place. I know that they accept cards, however sometimes it is good to have the option to withdrawal cash.

One good think I enjoyed was that you are able to sit outside and smoke and drink as well.
Katie Dav
We did the bottomless brunch which was exceptional good value. The drinks are non stop and the wait staff very fast at serving. The food is not amazing but considering the price of the package it is worth it.
Postcards From Peta
The Winery is the perfect indoor/outdoor bar especially in the beautiful sunlight. Plenty of tables to choose, with umbrellas or without. I love that you can bring your pooch to a bar. . Cheese board 27 / 37 / 45 - choose from 3, 5 or 7 cheeses. Served with hard & soft bread, fig paste, apple, grapes and honeycomb.

I came here to drink some wine and it didn’t disappoint, we got a GSM and a Tempranillo that were both fantastic. The bbq octopus side just topped it off. A great vibe as well
Sydney Food By Chloe
A very bohemian atmosphere with a wine selection that means business! The Winery has a beautiful selection of food that will leave you wanting more each time! P.s. Don't be a rookie, always save room for dessert!!
Nic Rogers
Service was fantastic. The winery has a great feel about it as well, good music and decor. Food was a little pricey and average. I was told the fish of the day was snapper when it was actually salmon. Chicken was a little dry. The bbq octopus was very good, nice and tender. The vegetarian lasagna was good as well. Great selection of wine as well. Would probably not be in a hurry to go back for the food, but a great place for a drink.
Annartodd
It doesn't get much better than sitting outside with a chilled glass of wine and watching the sunset over the cityscape here.
We only had drinks and snacks, and they were pretty pricey, but throughly enjoyed them.
The staff seemed very knowledgeable about their wine list and let us taste a few before we settled on a bottle.
Can be hard to get a table so you need to book well in advance, which will give you time to save up the extra pennies for this gem!!
Syam
Wonderful ambience and attentive customer service! We had the "bring me food" special which was $60pp for shared plates entree and main, plus desert. The food was good but perhaps too much carbs in the entree which made us too full to finish our mains which is fine as that means a nice lunch packed tomorrow :)
Roshni Bhandary
5 star rating for ambience and staff. Excellent service and beautifulll ambience n look. The fries were yummy as usual. The salad was tasty too but the buffalo mozerallea was the bestttt..must tryyy

The Chef's chop board - the special on Tuesday is really good! I was so surprised that I got so many things on that board with only $35. We also ordered the duck breast which was quiet good. Love the sweet potato fries. Last but not least, their services were really friendly :)
Annielyn
Great environment for friends and couples.
Food was nice overall but definitely not over 4. Not so many selections.
Service was ok but could be better though I understand it gets stressful during a busy night. Not overly happy with having to wait all the time to order and to pay or to clean up the table. Abit understaff
Eat Play Love Travel
You can’t come to Surry Hills without discovering this top-notch house of eating and drinking. There’s a fairy light-lit garden, a playful drinks list (that isn’t just wine, although the wine list is pretty bloody good), a food menu to match and weekly specials. My favourite is Friday’s ‘carafternoon’ – carafes of wine for $22 from 3pm.
Fussyfoodie
The service here was impeccable, we were well attended to, given recommendations on both food and wine, and Mum was even treated to a complimentary Rosè for Mother's Day. The cured tuna was beautifully balanced with crisp pear. The barbecued octopus was tender and perfectly matched with house made taziki. The absolute highlight was the lamb backstrap! Delicious, cooked to perfection and paired with a rich sauce! Very pleased.

Great food, service, wine and atmosphere! One of my favorite places to start a night out.
Make sure you book ahead as this place gets quite busy, but if your happy to indulge in a cocktail or 3 its worth waiting for a table.
I was absolutely stoked with the chicken salad and vegan pasta, but beware its spicy and packs a punch!
Fairy lights hung around the greeny provide an impressive ambiance. Great place for a date or group!
Styleandtravel -
Great place to meet your friends for dinner or just have a few drinks. Both yourself and your "date" will enjoy each other's company here. They play great music on Friday nights, as there's a live DJ playing his/her beats.
This place will tick all the boxes.
Ambience ✔️
Drinks✔️
Service✔️
Woo her with the surroundings ✔️✔️✔️
Stories And Etc
This is for the champagne room upstairs but it has a somewhat similar menu as the downstairs area. We had 3 mains and an Appy. All very underwhelming for the price. The rib eye steak, the white fish and the duck were all below average. Service is also not very attentive. Definitely not worth coming for the food but the bar atmosphere downstairs seems nice.
Leon
The Winery is a lovely restaurant or bar - A lot of greenery and charming interior decorations. I ordered the recommended sausage roll and brownie. The Brownie is awesome and it's a must try if you were there. The sausage roll is not bad either, I like the fluff on the exterior and the hot, flavorful interior. Worth a visit!

Dining in Champagne room

Lovely setting upstairs in the champagne room.

We had the set menu for both. Entrees were great, beautifully done, well-presented and tasty. The steaks were underdone and chewy. We didn't want to bother our server as he was getting really busy himself. Dessert could be done better with some simple twists. I feel like the chef got bored with the same dish and stopped trying. We had a good night catching up even though food was not a highlight of the night.

If you’re looking for a Romantic Date Night or First Date Ideas then the Winery is definitely a good choice. As you enter you walk through a garden with fairy lights and soft music which already sets the mood. You may organise to sit outside or inside. If you organise to sit inside you will find yourself in a more grand warehouse environment with large king and queen like chairs with very dimmed lights. Outside you have more of a relaxed feel with many groups of friends sitting together drinking wine and nibbling on cheese boards. So depending on your mood or the type of person/group you are with they can make it happen. The ambiance is very fancy and elegant, with the wait staff very professional and attentive to your requests.

The food is great and the wine even better as you can guess. Their wine menu is almost 4 times longer than their food menu so you definitely won’t be disappointed with the selection. With regards to food we loved Light Bodied Winery Board which set the start of the meal. We then tried the special pasta which was Pappardelle with lamb ragu which was absolutely delicious, one of the best we have ever had! The steak was cooked nicely and paired well with a nice soft full bodied red wine. The pricing is not on the cheap side with the avergae per person, including drinks, comes to about $40-50 a head. If that is within your budget, then definitely give this place a try you won’t be disappointed.
Christine Nguyen
Food overall was above average, it was not superb but good. Service however was fantastic, the waitress who was looking after our table was very friendly, attentive, took our orders well (there was at least 10 of us) and we even received 3 complimentary drinks for the special occasion. I really enjoyed my main (200g scotch fillet). I'd highly recommend the white fish carpaccio and squid rings.
Jason El Brihi
Terrible service.
Terrible food.
Don't be fooled by the ratings, waiting 30 mins after sitting down for someone to take our order. Food took 30mins + to get to us, and was awful.
Asked for the bill and after waiting for 20 mins had to get up from the table to remind them. They said to return to the table and someone will be with me shortly. 15 mins later nothing. Had to get up and go to the bar again to ask for the third time to pay just so we could leave. Would give a zero but apparently 1 is the lowest you can score.
The City Lane
With a name like The Winery, this Surry Hills bar makes its primary focus known from the outset. It’s a multi faceted space, with fairy lights dotting the garden-like which leads to the main room, a brick and wood affair that evokes visions of a ski lodge, relaxation, parties and all.
Bee
Absolutely love the layout and atmosphere! Ordered a lemon lime & bitters and it just tasted like bitters I don't think the barman must've heard me correctly. Ordered the BBQ spiced chicken with rustic slaw, it was okay nothing special, the slaw was the best part! I tried my friends Sausage Ragu which was soooo good! Wish I got that! A little pricey also. Order the ragu!
Thewhereto
Upstairs of the winery, a classy little spot with bar tables and booths. Really classy fit out and great for birthday drinks or a hens party. I ordered the turkish cocktail, lovely flavours and fairy floss sitting on top. I thought the service was pretty non existent and they never checked up on us until I realised there was a 'button to call for champagne'. Not immediately obvious. Drinks were good, just a little on the pricy side.
Emily Allen
Appalling service. Arrogant staff. We felt like an inconvenience. No record of our booking tonight at the champagne room which was confirmed.by email. The place was empty. 'I suppose I could get you a table' said the waitress and took us to a small drinks table which we had to squeeze into because they'd rammed them all so close together. Not a great start to date night.
We walked out and went to Zushi next door. Will never go back. Don't waste your time.
FoodLuva
We had plannned to eat at the Winery but we were moved up to the Champagne Room when an extra guest arrived and we couldn't fit on our table. Although disappointed at first it turned out to be a stroke of luck. It is a really nice space upstairs. Cosy, quiet, peaceful with great service.
Started with the Burrata cheese entree. This was really good, the cheese exploded and oozed over the salad when the ball was pierced. Salad was fresh, crisp and light , great starter.
For the main I went with the 400g Sirloin with pancetta wrapped asparagus and potato bake - very good as well.
Dessert was the brownie with ice cream - yum!
Maclaren Vale beer which I don't see too often and great wine selections and recommendations, really capped off a great night.
Fantastic vibe here, lovely indoor setting and even better if seated outside with a drink and some tapas! Location is great, right in the heart of Surry Hills! Highly recommended for a friend night out.

Certainly better than what it is rated as on Zomato. Great food without an exorbitant price ....high end presentation with dishes which taste better than many other over hyped restaurant. Had their lamb which was divine and so was the cauliflower salad. To top it up their selection of cocktails is very extensive and unique. Must go specially during week for business or work lunches ...particularly if you are in creative industries

Booked this venue for a family member's birthday and was quite disappointed on this particular occasion. It seems that they deliver two jugs of drinks and think that we wouldn't need cups to share it? After constant reminders, we still didn't get or cups! It wasn't until our waiter finally took our order that we had to remind yet again that we needed our cups!! Well, now that the ice has nicely melted away in our jug of Pimms, we made our order of the white fish carpaccio and wagyu bresaola for entrees. Among us, some had wagyu rump while others tried the pan seared white fish. Both were quite disappointing. The fish was bland, the salad mediocre, the wagyu rump wasn't medium rare like we had ordered... The only stand out dish was the wagyu bresaola. For dessert, we ordered all three offered on the menu: the brownie, panna cotta, and Choco pie. Not sure about the others, but my pannacotta was too sweet, but not bad nonetheless.

Atmosphere and location is definitely on the positive side though! Having some doubts as to whether I'd return ...

A great place for a sunny afternoon drink in Sydney and the food is equally as good. We did focus more on the drinking but the sausage rolls with chorizo that we had were exceptional as was the cheese and charcuterie platter. The outside bit is self service at the bar which I don't mind as you're not waiting on someone else to bring your drinks.

Had the girls picnic menu for a birthday and we loved how the table was already set up so beautifully. They were accommodating to the birthday cake we brought along and even lit it up with sparkler candles served on a wooden board. We enjoyed the menu, although my friends weren't too keen on the vegetables baguette- but that's a personal preference

Set in the trendyness of Surry hills tucked off the Main Street. Nice decor and setting. We had a lovely dinner and wine. The food was lovely, had the Monday special double steak. Was tasty and I loved how the first steak comes out for you to eat and then the second one comes out after you finished the first - means you get 2 warm steaks! On a couple of occasions there was some miss communication with the staff and we never got our starter, however they were very friendly and apologetic. Would defiantly recommend visiting for food, however it's also a great place to come and have a drink.

Expensive. Even by Sydney standards. They seem
to get away with this because of its chic-date-night inspired decor. It's easy to settle inhere, relax and let the wine and ambience tell you that $30 is a perfectly acceptable price to pay for 2 drinks on a Tuesday night. Didn't try the food and couldn't afford to eat that week.

This place is awesome! Arrived at 2pm on a lovely sunny Sunday afternoon and got a table outside.
There are outdoor tables with umbrellas which do not have table service, or you can sit inside or out on the covered terrace. We wanted to sit outside with the umbrellas.
The menu is plentiful and lots of delicious things to choose from. We opted for the homemade sausage rolls and a cheese board. They also have $10 spritzes on the menu on Sunday - I had the Turkish, not only was it atheistically pleasing it tasted pretty bloody amazing!
Popular bar spot in Surry Hills where you dress to impress. The Winery is a great option for a night cap with both indoor and outdoor seating. If you are after a cocktail my tip is to head straight upstairs to the elegant champagne bar where if you are lucky you can sit in one of the booths. The cocktail offerings are extensive and the bar tenders are all friendly and more than willing to recommend one that is right for you. You can never go wrong with an espresso martini - they are $19 but you will not be disappointed. Fantastic place for a date or a night out with friends.

I had dinner with my mum at The Winery, we wanted tohave a fine dining experience in Sydney before leaving and it definitely thicked all the boxes. The steak my mum had was "the best in my life", unfortunately the veg options available are not as many as I wished but my cauliflower was really good. Wide wine list as well, we enjoyed our shiraz. Service was perfect and the dishes came out quickly. A 4.5 stars dining experience

Champagne Room is a classy dining venue located on Crown St in Surry Hills, it’s just upstairs of the ever popular The Winery. Champagne Room as it’s name suggests, specialises in champagne and other variations of sparkling wine as well as delicious choices of food to match. We recently had the pleasure of visiting to check out the weekend Bottomless Bellinis menu.

Ambience, good wine and great looking door guy. Three reasons to go to The Winery. The food however is only mediocre. I've eaten here a handful of times and in my opinion the side dishes are not as good as the mains. Had the baked polenta was good the first time I had it I literally hoovered it, but was disappointing the second time round especially when I hyped it up to my friend who didn't think much of it either. The arancini was boring, both separate times I had it however my main which was the steak was delicious. Cooked medium to perfection and enjoyed every mouthful. Also be wary when you ask the bartender about the wines. We were recommended a glass of the Penfolds range (cannot remember which one) & opted for that one rather than a different one on the menu we were considering. However, we were totally unaware of the price as we didn't ask and he didn't tell us so it was partially our fault. So if you don't want to pay $20 for a glass of wine, always ask how much the one they're recommending is. Despite this it's a great place to go and have a chilled out evening in a classy place.

A lovely hidden gem in Surry Hills. I love the way the lights line the trees as you walk in, so pretty. This place has a really great vibe too it.
The food was pretty good, I had the entree size vegan spice roasted cauliflower - lovely; not too spicy and the garlic sauce complimented it well (apologies for the terrible photo I was so hungry I had to dig in!). My friend had the lumache pasta which was a bit of a let down for $26, it was just a simple bowl of pasta I could have done at home.
On the bright side the service here was really great, our server was efficient and really nice. My recommendation for a good cocktail: Disco Biscuits, so fruity and refreshing. Overall a great, but pricey evening.

Beautiful restaurant in beautiful surroundings with a stunning view of sydney by night. We treated ourselves to some drinks before dinner. I opted for a "coco Chanel" which tasted and sounded like a much classier version of a pina colada. Rum, pineapple juice with coconut cream froth and real coconut shavings on top! Yum! The decor was chic, stylish & vintage! I loved the chandeliers, booth seats upstairs and saucy bathroom doors . I'll be back for sure!

I have never been disappointed at The Winery. Good food matched with excellent collection of wines (with free wine tasting on Wednesdays) best describes this magnificent establishment at Surry Hills! The fact that you can wine and dine in a garden adds to the magic!

When The Winery in Surry Hills announced their brand new vegan menu, it would have been rude not to check it out, right? For someone who hasn’t been before, The Winery is the perfect location for any occasion. It offers lots of different seating options from outdoor dining amongst the dimly lighted garden, formal dining and a cosy bar – there is so,etching for just about anyone. The unique setting combined with fragrant organic wines and delicious food is a sensory overload. Their vegan menu almost has us crossing to the dark side!
Choco Choi
Fantastic environment and location! A gemstone in Surry Hills. Love drinks soooo much!! Especially the Giggly Rose. Roasted pumpkin with fig, beetroot and wild rice were very nice too.
Limatango
I like the vibe here. Big space but cosy at the same time. Champagne and gin cocktail was on point. Most tables were booked but it was easy enough to nab one outside.
Andrew Micallef
Brilliant service and amazing setting, dark and plenty of privacy. Food was great, nothing bad to say about the experience and the drinks menu is quite good too. New favourite place in Surry Hills!

Most people think of The Winery as a summer spot for a long lunch with friends... A few weeks ago I visited and left with a complete new idea of the Winery over winter. I dined with two friends, first enjoying a cheese board, followed by a dish selected from the feasting menu - duck cassoulet. Finishing things off with a long a truffle cheese board.

Service was fast even though most tables were full. The cocktails were pretty and sweet. The food was tasty with fair portion size.
A lot of tables were having casual group drinks so the atmosphere was quite loud and busy.

Underwhelmed by dinner at the winery last night. The food was fine but nothing spectacular and the service left much to be desired. Not only was it exceptionally slow but they stuffed up our order which meant that we never received our side dishes. Lovely looking restaurant with the fairy lights and garden surrounds but that's the main highlight.
JL
Dined there for Mothers Day and it was really lovely. Service was attentive but not stifling, food was lovely and cocktails really hit the spot. Great amount of food for the price and the wine list offered enough options for all tastes and budgets. Want to come back for a dinner very soon.

The service is friendly, attentive and helpful. Really pleasant. And really dark (great for romantic nights).

Although the food portions are little on the small side it is quite delicious. Meals are hearty and comforting. On both of my two visits I've always managed to order the sausage roll.
Gabbys79
Been to the Winery a few times for girly catch ups. Great place for drinks or food or both. If it's a nice day enjoy the garden setting or take a seat inside. The food is good to share - a really easy place to be social

We had a somewhat frustrating time at the Champagne Room. It wasn't clear that the Champagne Room had a completely different wine and food menu to the Winery. The food was ok but the menu was limited. Service was excellent. Big thanks to Jeremy for making our experience entertaining. I think that the difference between the divided venues need to be made clearer to avoid customer disappointment.
Bec Jaye
Great menu with a variety of selections. Pricey but worth it for a special occasion. Large variety for everyone to pick and choose! Presented beautifully and was impressed when bread and biscuits were replaced when we ran out. Cocktails are delicious and I would recommend going for a jug! Great service with very attentive staff. Electric, hip and a must visit. Would recommended and looking forward to returning.

Nice place for a comfy after work drink and dinner with friends. The drink was very nice and unique. Food is standard, not really in line with their atmosphere and drink. Maybe could be due to high expectation before visiting.
Out And About
Chic, buzzing and exclusive. Why wouldn't anyone want to be a part of this?
The Winery was the elected gathering spot for us to catch up with a friend. We enjoyed the rose, chateau d'estee from Bordeaux and a SA white. Excellent! The menu ranges from $12 for a glass to a $750 offering for a bottle of Cheval Blanc.
We were there at night in low light and the setting was idyllic, enchanting and mesmerizing!
The staff were very attentive and even flexible on our seating arrangements.
@forfoodiesake
Crappy service for the price. Took forever to come take main order and forgot about second bottle of wine. Steak should come with salad too instead of bulk fries
@eatingupwiththehannashians
We always go for some snacks and cocktails! Love it!! It is the perfect place to go on a beautiful day as we love the decor and the ambience.

Nice vibe to hangout with friends for nightout for food and drinks. The food is nice! Definitely like the rustic feel of the restaurant, service is also good

Saturday was a glorious day to have an outdoor lunch at the beautiful Winery in Surry Hills. Hannah and I headed there to catch up over sparkling wine and bar food. Casa Gheller ‘G’ Prosecco NVThe ricotta basket with radish, lemon salt, chilli, grilled olive & rosemary bread was as good as it sounded. That olive bread was delicious, although a bit charred in some areas. If only they put more bread on the plate! The combination of light ricotta, spicy radish, lemon and salt was simply moreish.Liberally seasoned sweet potato chips – couldn’t go wrong with them.

Really lovely venue in Surry hills. Tucked away off the main road. Service was reasonable. The decor and ambience was great. The food was very good.

It's a must visit place in Surry hills.
Pollo_pesce_me
This place has nice décor and interiors and upstairs area can be a good place for group party or events. The place though ooze unfriendliness the staff and act to be little stressed which I couldn’t figure why since there are so many of them for such a small place. Food isn’t great either… I thought it’s going to be one of those place just to be seen and in a way it is. If you are looking for great wine good food relaxing beautiful environment, then stay clear. But is your 25 and earn 70K a year and like to pretend you know something about wine and good taste hoping to attract another equally clueless partner then this is the place for you
Came here for a late lunch with work colleagues and by the time we left on Friday the place was packed and we frankly we were glad to be getting out of there.
The only memorable integration was when one of my colleagues complained about the mussel dish being salty and we got a huff from the waiter. Other than that I would added to my must miss list.

We held a hens night at The Winery for 19 people, none of us girls who organised the night had ever been here before but had heard great things so thought we would take the risk and book here - we definitely didn't regret it! We were very lucky to be given the private dining area off to the side of the restaurant as it wasn't booked (we didn't book it as it had a minimum spend and cancellation rules), but it was beautiful and a good size! We also had access to our own bar and great bartender. They allowed us to bring our own flowers and other decorations. We had the $80 four course set menu which was delicious and a large amount of food (incl a glass of sparkling). I had the steak for my main and brownie for dessert; both were delicious and couldn't be faulted! Only tiny downside was that drinks are a little expensive. Overall we had a great night, were very happy with the venue & the bartender allocated to our group. Service was great, meals were great - would highly recommend this place for hens nights or any party! Will definitely be back for dinner and drinks again!

A great lunch spot in the heart of Surry Hills - I hear it's notoriously difficult to get dinner here due to the masses of people attempting the same, so we were lucky that on a late Friday afternoon we got in straight away.

The restaurant is beautifully decorated - a cool, retro ambience with a real sense of luxe about it. The menu looked great so first impressions were a massive thumbs up.

We started with oysters (18 in total!) and some of the goats yoghurt dip. The oysters were a mix of two varieties - it would have been great to have been advised on this before hand - which is always a nice detailed service touch but nonetheless they were delicious. I love it when an establishment serves up oysters with a simple shallot and red wine vinegar accompaniment. When the oysters are fresh, that's all you need and this place delivered. The yoghurt dip was nice - if a little bland.

For main, I ordered the duck. Whilst it was seasoned beautifully, it was over cooked the whole way through and had no nice pink middle. The witlof salad with cherries was well balanced and a great accompaniment.

At this point, we hadn't been offered any further drinks - and we began to observe that the service was somewhat lacking. No checking on the satisfaction of our mains - and when we decided we wanted desert, I literally had to flag a waitress over for a menu. It's not that the service was rude or anything like that, it just wasn't sharp enough. Staff having conversations between themselves with their back to the tables needing their attention was more of what we encountered. In a place this 'nice' with such a great menu and clearly skilled kitchen staff, it would make a big difference if the wait staff were on par.

We finished with the brownie - which was absolutely divine and the special 'trifle' which was a massive miss in my opinion. A huge glass of whipped cream, some honeycomb chunks (which were very plasticy) and a little meringue. No real balance of texture or flavor and it seemed to have been standing a while as liquid had accumulated in the bottom from some of the fruit/cream. A shame!

May return for more oysters and to enjoy the atmosphere but they could do a little better - and then it very well could be a 5 star.

Pros: Great vibe, indoor or outdoor seating, great food, can order/pay for drinks at the bar seperate to your meal tab, delcious food, great people watching.

Cons: Staff are on their own agenda and you almost need to sound a fire horn to recieve eye contact.

Example: Mid week in quiet season we wanted an early start/early finish for my wedding/birthday celebration. Entrees and mains all terrific. Then ...
9.00 Dessert menu came.
9.40 Eventually got staffs attention to order a brownie (plan was sparkler & birthday singalone).
10.30 No brownie
10.45 Despite restaurant half dead staff not making eye contact so had to walk around and find someone.

And ... guess what ... order hadn't even been placed to the kitchen. So of course cancelled it and left. Staff unphased.

This restaurant has a lovely outdoor garden area and an equally stylish indoor area. We were seated in the french windows which gave the best of both worlds. The food was very good - wagyu steak was cooked perfectly - but the service was a bit hit and miss, one waiter in particular seeming quite disinterested. Still well worth a visit for the setting and the food though.

Can come across a bit snobbish nevertheless it is still a great summery place for pimms and some superb sausage rolls. Most of the times we would sit in downstairs garden but had a birthday party upstairs once too. I like it decor inside and outside, the food was not bad either.

Went here this evening, special celebration, recommended, sadly not up to expectation, biggest disappointment, disgusting loos and served frozen McDonalds shoestring fries with steak...really, come on this was supposed to be 4 stars....hate to go to 3 stars....
Rating wouldn't recommend
Kristina
Worst service of my life. For a sunday night it was not at ALL busy, and not a single staff member came by to give us a table after we waited by in the outside area on a small table with our drinks for 50 minutes. As we left, i saw a table for two empty (i requested a table for 2 in the beginning) funnily enough, the white was I had wasnt anything above average.
Those Who Love To Eat
Took a friend out for his birthday. I love the urban oasis concept! It's gorgeous if you would ignore the city skyline. This place never fails to impress, the taste bud and the ambiance is just devine. At times, the service can be rather hit and miss, apart from that, it's a great place to be on a Saturday afternoon.
We ordered a bottle of Malbec followed by nibbles, and a pimms jug. Though the pimms taste must have gotten lost in translation, you could barely taste the liquor. That being said... I would still return to this place. It's just a fun place to be hanging out and having drinks!
Had a dinner for a large group composing of over 20 people over 2 tables. We had a $55pp shared menu. The food was great but one of the tables didn't get the chicken main served to them. We brought this up with the waitress who apologised. When we brought it up later one of the male staff flat out refused to admit this happened and refused to even apologise. The attitude of this staff member really spoilt what was a good night in a good venue. Unfortunately this refusal to admit to what was a simple mistake I would not recommend this venue for large group bookings.

Great for all occasions. Plenty of setting but always packed to the brim. Bar is good and a good wine selection. Food is good and fast. Perfect for the socializers is us
Simply Starving
Nestled in the middle of Surry Hills, The Winery is a fantastic place for a few drinks. Whether you're outside under the fairy lights or upstairs in the champagne room, there's always a great atmosphere for any occasion. Unfortunately, staff can be hit and miss.
Whippy Cream
I had dinner and drinks here with a friend. The food was nothing special considering the prices. I ordered the tasting plate which was nothing exciting. I expected it to be full of different flavours but was disappointed. The fish fillet main was ok but the portion size too small. Their vodka cocktail I enjoyed but thought it was a bit overpriced at $25.

This place is amazing for all occasions.

The staff are friendly, the selection of Wine is wonderful and the food is reasonably priced and tastes devine.

Good for after work drinks or meal with a group of friends.

If you're looking for something a little bit more 'fancy' check out the champagne room.

T H E ☆ W I N E R Y
This is a very beautiful place, especially after dark when they turn the fairy lights on. However, the food was less then standard. My pasta dish tasted... well line nothing! Very little crab found in my main. ✌ @foodiesguidetosydney

Great venue for a long lunch. Lots of small menu items as well as substantial mains. Great wine list and fabulous cocktails. The Bloody Marys are top quality. Well priced and great for groups.
