Review Blue Fish - Sydney

Gabriel
It was pretty hectic when we went, on a Easter Friday brunch. Still the food delivered was nicely done, most of the staff were quite nice, some more visible stressed than others and/or less patient. It was a hectic day though. Great weather for it, and decent harbour views. Nothing too special, but still a decent place to venture.

Nice cafe. We came for breakfast after watching the dragon boat racing at Darling harbour. For sure we paid tourist prices. But the breakfast was good and we found shelter from a torrential rain. Service was quick and friendly, ambience was very nice.

We dined at 1:00 on a Saturday afternoon. It was busy, it there were tables available. We were seen immediately and seated straight away, sitting at the front, with a wonderful view of the harbour. The menus arrived immediately, closely followed by water and glasses. The beverage list was extensive. The menu was spread Uber a number of pages and was well illustrated. There’s more in offer than fish and chips - e.g. pasta and wings. The platters looked unbelievable! Bring friends. My beautiful wife ordered the fish of the day and I had a seafood basket. Our drinks came quickly and the food was at our table in shirt order. It was hit and unbelievably delicious. Everything was fresh and tasty. The calamari and octopus weren’t rubbery and the fish feel apart. The chips were a great accompaniment. The staff were very polite and helpful and were more than happy to provide a takeaway box. The atmosphere was pleasant and relaxed and there was a heated area. The was a wonderful experience. Edit: we went back for the platter. It took our appreciation of this place to new heights. The food was served faster than I thought. It was again fresh and unbelievably tasty. Three of us managed most of the platter, leaving only the chips. It was worth the wait - believe the hype.

We ordered the giant seafood platter and 6 oyster Kirkpatrick. Overall it looked great however the price you pay vs what you get wasn't that good. The giant seafood platter was 500. Oysters were small and disappointing. The lobster was quite nice.fried seafood was dry.

Delicious Food. Exceptional Service Even though the place was so full, the people who served us remained courteous and friendly throughout

The giant seafood platter is a must. Beautiful outlook in one of the most iconic spots in Sydney - Darling Harbour. Have been coming here for years to enjoy this platter has changed since last time more chips slightly diff mix from what we remember but all in all is a great mix of hot and cold seafood.

Really delicious food and friendly staff. Excellent menu variety and cocktail selection. 110% would recommend this place!

The waterfront location was spectacular and has one of the best location on Darling Harbour. I was taken to lunch by my friend, and would expect decent food / service for the prices and location. From the moment we walked through the door service was non existence. We ordered our meal at 12pm and drinks did not arrive until 12.35pm..After entrees we did not get our mains until about 1.30pm. The table next to us ordered much later but since they ordered the seafood platter they were given priority over our meal. Our mains came when the couple finishes their seafood platter... what can you say to that ?..No apologies from management whatsoever, did not seemed like he wants to be working there and just plain rude when I asked about our mains as we had a cruise booked for 2pm. The food was disappointing and was rather bland. A new couple next to us left after hearing that we waited for 1.5 hours for our food. Sorry but this is probably my first and last time here.

Disappointing dinner at this place. Service was extremely slow and food never showed up after 40 mins until i asked the waiter. Food was average. The food platter was mainly burnt or overcooked food. The worst service was the person at the cashier who had a french background. He made a mistake on the bill and instead apologising, he had the nerve to say we are trying to avoid paying for the food when theres was a double up on the fish n chips which only costed us 24 bucks compared to the total bill which wad 400. Like if im trying to avoid paying. Why would I waste time on a small dish..Is this how you treat customers that spend over 400 at the restaurant. Please rethink your career because you definitely are not suitable to serve customers. I have never been so frustrated. Please avoid this place if possible.

We went here months ago and had a good meal with our kids, sadly this time the food was such a let down, the kids fish was so thickly battered and so oily and our seafood plate for $47.50 plus surcharge was 3 medium prawns, 3 oysters, a tiny balmain bug, about a dessert spoon of salmon and the alaskan crab was lke a garnish on a slicd of avocado the sauces were good, the staff were the best think about this place
Annelie Quentin Kirton
Awesome food and great service! Would recommend big fish to anybody that love sea food and need a sea food fix. Great atmosphere and friendly staff!

Had birthday dinner with the husband here and was really looking forward to the grilled platter for two. I have to say that the value for money was atrocious. $120 for a platter that couldn't even be made to look bigger with the addition of a few fries. Garlic bread was my only highlight. Very disappointing to leave after a platter still hungry.

I LOVE Blue Fish, I have been going there for years & years...  but the bathrooms … oh the bathrooms! they get worse every time we go. They need to clean them regularly on a Saturday night. I won’t go into details because it's not pleasant but please clean them more often. My friend refuses to even go into them & runs to the bar next door. It is sadly starting to turn me off going to this restaurant a bit & I hope someone from the restaurant reads this review.

I visited here 2 times. And they were always racists. They didnt bring water only for us. And I asked just why didnt bring water. Then the waitress said I didnt mean anything. What the..
Eliza Zou
The prawn I got tasted well but the spaghetti was too dry and sour. I can taste nothing but tomato and olive oil, dry spaghetti. I am pretty sure about the brand of juice they use. The garlic bread was not good. The seafood tastes very fresh. I think they have good seafood but not very good at seasoning. So boiled seafood with simple seasoning taste the best and will be a good choice to order in this restaurant.
Thomas Mikhail
Seafood at Darling Harbour prices, you can’t go wrong. We made a booking for 4 people and it felt like it was nothing special as we got told that there were seats inside. The food came out promptly and their drinks were pleasant. Overall the prices are a bit excessive but the grilled octopus was probably my favourite thing in the Fisherman’s Basket.

Went here with my partner last week and was disappointed with several aspects of the meal. When I provided polite (though negative) feedback on another site, the manger replied to my review in a very condensing and insulting manner.. he started his comment by calling me Sweetheart! As disappointing as the food and service was.. the response from the manager has ensured we won't go back. The view is great and there is the opportunity for this place to be great which it seems it was at one time but in our opinion, they need a rethink and refocus on the customer. There's lots of great restaurants to choose over this one Darling Harbour.

I wish I read the reviews before going in. I was so hungry after checking in at 2pm, took a walk and saw the place was busy, so thought the food must be good. Took forever for my food to arrive and while waiting, an old guy keeps going around and trying to clean up tables. Would have been good but he'd move chairs and tables so loud you'd think he is angry. The same old man called a group of young girls when they were leaving and asked one of the girls if she is looking for work and if she can carry glasses, plates etc. It was an uncomfortable conversation for the girls it seemed. Eventually when my food arrived, I was not happy at all. Ordered kangaroo skewer and it was burnt. It was like chewing a bubblegum. I was only able to finish one stick (of 4). I left the place feeling dissatisfied and and still hungry!

Took my girlfriend there on the weekend. Booked online over a week in advance and put romantic date in the comments field. Thought I would get an outside table with a great view. We got there and the girl led us to an inside table stuck in the corner with virtually no view. When I said something about the table she shook her shoulders and walked off! Nicely trained staff. But what really ticked me off was about half way through the meal some old man was wandering around who I assumed was the manager. I voiced my complaint about the table and he turned and basically said what did I expect on a weekend. And let me tell you he never said it in a friendly manner. That was his idea of customer service? A customer voices a complaint and he reacts in a contemptuous and dismissive fashion? <br/>As others have said this place is quite pricey. I was willing to pay extra for the view but without the view why bother? Sitting in the corner and paying high prices with no view makes you start to feel like a mug very quickly. As I went and paid the bill I met my old mate. Not surprisingly he did not ask whether I had enjoyed my dining experience! In fact he was so miserable he never even bothered saying good evening as I was leaving. The whole process of paying the bill was conducted in complete silence.I will never go back.

lobster Morney is disaster, not fresh and tasteless. Seafood paella is similar. Oyster come after our main dish. My cranberry juice is half glass of ice. Price is way more than taste experience.
Michelle Martin
The food is EXTREMELY average and you can cook something tastier at home. The grilled ham and cheese was terrible as the cheese hardened. The white bread tasted stale. It was not appetising or appealing at all.
Kristine King
Best scallops I’ve ever had and this is not up for debate. Surprised at the low rating, doesn’t fit the great service and food I experienced.
Feelinfoodiejess
Been here several times, most of the times was a good experience. It is a quite expensive but thats what you expect from the quality food! Options like bookings are a life saver would recommend a booking on days like new years, as it was fairly full last time i dined!
John
One word reviews for food and service; food, lacklustre; service, oblivious. Tourist trap seemingly relying on one-time dining. To their credit they discounted the meal when we expressed our disappointment. Wanted this place to be nice as it’s close to work and I like a seafood menu. Went back and it was déjà Vu all over again.

we ordered a cold platter and 2 other plates and drinks. i asked for the drinks as well as food twice to be delivered as it wasnt. my cold platter, (which looked like it would take less than 5 mins to prepare as it was 'cold' ready to be served foods) took longer than 50 mins, and it came after the next table who ordered after I did. We waited for the other 2 plates but it never came. i went to the counter for the third time to ask how long it woyld take, but to my surprise, the order was never put through... hahaha I laughed and canceled it. We were so disappointed and had to walk out with empty stomach. Food was below average, and waitresses truly do not understand how to serve. I DO NOT recommend this place. 1 is too much for them, I would give -5 if it was available on this app

I’ve come here on a few occasions and food has been hit and miss. This place is definitely overpriced but I guess that’s what you’d expect for a prime location. First time I came was for their mussels and lobster mornay. Both pretty mediocre and really disappointing. <br/><br/>I’ve recently come back to try their lunch special (fisherman basket) as I can get an additional staff discount on top which makes this worth the purchase and I was surprisingly pleased with the meal. The calamari rings melted in my mouth, chips were great and the prawns were cooked very nicely. This is why I’ve given this restaurant a 2/5 instead of 1. I actually would’ve given it a 3 but lo and behold...I had food poisoning from my meal! I can assure you it was from this restaurant as my other colleagues also felt the same pain that night. I know I should probably give 1 star because of my unpleasant night but the taste of the food was actually pretty damn good - eat with caution!!!!

Beautiful place to dine, bought a groupon for two buckets of prawns and a bottle of wine! Great value and great service! We will be back next time we come to NSW!

Terrible service. It seems the staff are recycling food. See attached a picture of how a kid ice cream was served. Almost looked like it was put in a reused glass. The rest ok the meal was ok however the service was terrible and we literally has to beg for the drinks to arrive after half the meal was over

Absolutely disappointed at dinner tonight. Food was fine. Table is sticky. And upon complaining about a unreceptive waiter, after a miscommunication and apathetic apology, regarding an item that wasn’t on the menu. After speaking to another person who barely apologised. Pathetic. Better to spend $35 on a main at another local joint.

Had a disappointing dining experience at Blue Fish tonight. Service was slow due a lack of waiters and waitress, the seafood wasn't very fresh and lacked any real flavours, and we had an unstable table that shook every time we took a bite. On top of that, the seafood paella was extremely oily and the oyster from the cold sea food platter was unclean. It is safe to say that I will not be dining in Blue Fish again.

I can’t fault anything with the freshness of the seafood at Blue Fish. A friend and I ordered the Sashimi and Tiger Prawns for Entree, and Calamari for Main. <br/><br/>The Sashimi was the best I’ve had for a while, melt in your mouth freshness and sliced perfectly. The Prawns were so flavourful and tender, served with their awesome Seafood Sauce (unsure if house made - if commercial I want to know what brand it is). <br/><br/>Our Calamari was good, 5 pieces served with chips and tartare. They weren’t overcooked or rubbery which was a welcome change. <br/><br/>We opted for dessert as well, being an Affogato and Berry Eton Mess. No complaints here either. <br/><br/>Points lost for price vs. portion size. I can hear you all mumbling ‘but what did you expect on the harbour?’ - I’m well aware this is a contributing factor but a slightly larger portion for each dish (except the desserts) would have given them a higher rating from me.

Nice lunch, staff were accommodating and happy for us to sit there for a few hours ordering different things. Bit of a miscommunication on one of the meals, but not a big problem.

Giant Seafood Platter<br/><br/>All fried food taste good here as the skin is thin and much crispy than that in other restaurants. Prawns are the best in this platter, no matter it is fresh or fried. I am a bit disappointed with their fresh oysters and mussels. Too much small shells on the oysters' surface and the mussels are too small to eat.<br/>However, overall is fine and everyone can have a try if you guys have special occasion with your friends or families:)

The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere/seating are very comfortable. But the kitchen service was really slow, took an hour for our main to come out on a Sunday lunch. It was busy but I don't think the restaurant was full yet. And the food was tasty except they left one side of the fish scale on.. for both my parents dish.. that's pretty crap for a seafood place.
Cindy Hoang
Service was mediocre, staff were unprepared although we've already made a booking a week prior to coming and didn't know how to answer simple questions like "do you have any recommendations". When the food platter came out there were missing components which was really disappointing. Overall was okay but if you're already in Darling Harbour, might go somewhere worthwhile.<br/>

You have to try the chowder in a sourdough loaf! Delish! We also tried the grilled platter for two, that included prawns, salmon baramundi, crab, scallops and calamari, a generous serving for two. Nice location on the harbour and helpful staff and management made the whole experience pleasant.

Visited for dinner - sat outside as adequate heating was provided. Blankets were also provided for each table, which were a nice touch. The food was pretty average - scallops were meh and the bucket of prawns ordered were pretty tasteless, the sauce served with them helped a lot. The service was overly attentive - we had a different person checking on us every 5 minutes. I didn't hate it but I wouldn't return.

Great lunch out at Blue Fish at Darling Harbour. We visited on a public holiday and were instantly advised of holiday surcharges which we did not mind at all.<br/><br/>We were asked to pick our seats as it was still early and were attended to almost immediately. We decided on the Fisherman's Basket and the Chicken BLT with table water.<br/><br/>The Fisherman's Basket was a variety of seafood (squid, calamari, prawns and fish) seasoned and deep fried. It was served with chips and aioli sauce. The calamari is always a highlight of this dish having the perfect crunch and for not being too stringy. The aioli went well with the seafood choice.<br/><br/>The Chicken BLT was a burger with lettuce and tomato. Reading the menu we were thinking it as more of a wrap but when it came out I definitely was not disappointed. One change that could be made to this meal, if anything, is the option to swap the tomato sauce out to an aioli dip. This was still a great option on the menu and an absolutely delicious meal.<br/><br/>I highly recommend Blue Fish for a simple lunch out on Darling Harbour. We will be back again soon to try more!

The ambience is pretty alright here. The food is average. Not amazing. Not worth it. I ordered paella, sangria and tortilla chips. Pricey but what can I expect being on the harbour. But I guess most people come for the scenery. The tortilla chips came with a terrible chip/guacamole ratio. We had 3/4 of the chips left by the time the guacamole was done and weren't exactly heaping our scoops. Maybe 2 tablespoons worth at most and the chips were nothing special for the exuberant price tag. The Sangria tasted like watered down goon with ice and quarter of an old apple. The paella was alright. Probably the best thing I had and it still wasn't anything special. I definitely felt ripped off with what I was paying. Overall: eh, I think next time I'll stop by Cole's and grab a bag of Doritos and a tub of Chris's avocado dip.<br/>

this place is awesome! Im from inland Australia so anything by the water is epic for me and ive never had such fresh seafood like this before. The share platter is nothing like ive ever seen or had before where Im from and the view of the harbour while sipping on a glass of wine is something you cant imagine where Im from. Great service and definitely a must if youre visiting the area!

Yummy breakfast, smashed avocado with poached eggs was a great combination for something new and lite while on my trip in Sydney. The coffee was fantastic also 👍

Love blue fish go there regularly!! However customer service on the phone was horrendous considering he stated he was the owner. Was rude to me for making a booking through zomato... it was like i was interupting his day by him having to answer the phone and take a booking. I was attempting to book 8ppl for a sunday the owner was nothibg near warm or polite he was rude, short and arrogant. I cant believe it was the owner speaking to me!! He asked me where i was calling from... am i calling from tge zomato website? N i said sorry yes i am what does that matter when im making a booking and bringing you business.? He got nasty and said... well its a valid question for a business owner and hungup on me. ive never experienced this from a hospitality industry. There was NOTHING HOSPITABLE about the owner. Dont go here not worth being treated like that for any human being. <br/> <br/>

This place is a grandfather of restaurants in Darling Harbour & has stood the test of time. For good reason with a huge menu offering, great location & friendly service. Known for their large seafood platters, other dishes are also worth a try. The paella was generous with seafood & loved the grilled king prawn. Fisherman's basket is not oily & had different batters on fish & calamari & prawn cutlets. An enjoyable & relaxing experience.

I liked everything. I really mean everything... except the food.... i liked it all though... they have good people. Nice wait staff kind enough in auch a busy environment... but food..... no comment on it....

Absolutely divine. I love the location in Darling Harbour and parking is so easy on Harbourside - $14 when you get the ticket validated by the restaurant. The Food is delicious and i love the atmosphere here. I highly recommend the Seafood paella with Chorizo, chicken, mussels, clams, prawns and calamari topped with bbq king prawn and the Fisherman’s Basket - Fish Fillet, Crumbed Prawns & Calamari Rings, BBQ Calamari, Seared Scallop & BBQ King Prawn served with Chips & Tartare Sauce. Make sure you order a coconut mojito to start off.

Blue fish is in the perfect location along the picturesque harbour. You'll be in a sea of seafood platters and will be foolish for not ordering your own. We ordered the seafood platter for two, it was truly delicious with the salmon and the barramundi being my favourites. The crab meat was a little bit sparse, but that's the risk you take when ordering crab! <br/><br/>The salt and pepper squid is seriously incredible, I could have eaten endless plates of it. Whatever seasoning is lathered on it is mind blowing. For dessert you can't go past the creme brulee! <br/><br/>Don't forget to knock back a few coconut mojitos as well, once you start sipping you won't be able to stop.

Good service, very average food. Went for Sunday breakfast and had the "Canadian Breakfast " which is an insult to Canada. The waffles were dry an chewy and tasted like they had come out of a packet. That said the service was very efficient

The service here is great. The seafood is fresh and delicious. There is a load of variety on the menu and it's always served with great quality. I really enjoyed my experience here and will definitely be returning. <br/><br/>It's been a while since we've last come here so we came here again. We ordered the strawberry sea snake cocktail and the giant seafood platter, which was delicious as it had a good variety of seafood. They said it was for 3-4 people however 2 people could easily eat it if youre not eating all the chips and just the seafood. It seems it's just got a whole lot more of chips and a heavier price tag than their other seafood platters. <br/>Food was delicious nonetheless and we'd come back for seafood here again, probably wont order the giant platter again though and the other platter options offer a whole lot less chips and a whole lot more value for money.
Picturesque Food
The restaurant is located by darling harbour on the waterside with a pleasant view.<br/>Staff were friendly, quick and attentive. <br/>On this night we ordered the cold seafood platter for two. For drinks we ordered the ice chocolate, which was not that sweet. <br/>Before the platter came out, a waste bowl was brought to our table which must have been just rinsed quickly as there were remnants of someone else's meal. <br/>When the platter came out we were disappointed by the portion size. The seafood platter consisted of prawns (6), Alaskan crab (1/2), pieces of smoked salmon, avocado (1/2), oysters (6) and a few small crab stick pieces. Upon completing the meal between the two of us, we felt that this was only the entree and wanting more! <br/>The food did taste nice, but the portion size was too small for the price paid.
Tiffany
Tried the cold seafood platter for two ppl, cheese platter and lemon curd with mosse dessert. Good customer service, Seafood taste nice and fresh, but not enough for two ppl and it cost $110. Dessert is so so....

It's been a very long time since I have had a Seafood Platter as good as I experienced here last night. My family came from Melbourne and wanted to try the seafood here and at Darling Harbour so it was with great reservation that I chose a restaurant at Darling Harbour, expecting to pay a tourist premium for the location and resigned to the fact of having an average culinary experience.<br/><br/>The last Seafood Platter I enjoyed was at Doyles at Watsons Bay so that was my benchmark for the platter this evening. Being 6 people, we ordered the platter for 2 and platter for 4. The Platters came very nicely presented, the smaller one having Alaskan Crab legs and the grilled prawns sitting on a smoker/mini grill. <br/><br/>What I immediately noticed was how fresh the oysters were, plump and shelled without having touched tap water - simply excellent. What was to follow was an equally satisfying experience where every single component of the platter was fresh and perfectly cooked on both platters. Even the chips on the base were cooked perfectly! I could not fault anything. The service was good although the restaurant was busy.<br/><br/>It has been a while since I have had a meal so enjoyable and all credit to the chef for the excellent food!

Good food, bad service even worse management. We came on a Saturday night and we waited more than 45 minutes for our food, including entree. We ordered Paela, which yes, typically takes half an hour to cook, but the waiters weren't courteous enough to let us know it would take well over 30 mins. Management argued back at us when we complained about the time and service and left us feeling even angrier. The fact the manager had the audacity to argue with a customer is absolutely disgusting. We did not give attitude, and spoke in a mild manner. I believe, you should never let a customer leave angrily.

Loved our dinner here. We ordered the family seafood platter and it was great. All of the seafood was fresh and delicious. The staff are very friendly and the view is really nice if you can get a table outside. Would definitely come back!

I went here on Sat. Because we can enjoy Fireworks at darling harbour!! The fish and chips at Blue Fish was very tasty than I expected. Not too oily but crispy. If you wanna have dinner at restaurant on Sat, I recommend you to make a reservation!! Was full at that time. Worth tasting this $15 Fish&Chips!!

I always hear and read mixed reviews about restaurants in Darling Harbour, so choosing a restaurant for dinner, can sometimes feel like a lucky dip. Blue Fish has been awarded many awards so we decided to give them a try, all these honours can't be a bad thing. We arrived on a Friday night to a pretty packed restaurant, but luckily, we were able to choose to dine outside. Staff were friendly and efficient throughout the night. They handed us our menus and returned to take our orders without us having to ask, and food didn't take that long to come out.<br/><br/>The bucket of prawns was a great way to start the meal. The prawns weren't big, but the serving was rather generous. They were nicely chilled and tasted fresh. Very enjoyable to eat, as we sipped on our glasses of wine. The salt and pepper squid was deliciously tender. The aioli was also a great accompaniment. The seafood paella is meant to feed 1, but the serving was pretty good, so after sharing some starters, it was perfect to share between 2. The BBQ king prawn on top was really smoky and well cooked. The paella consisted of some prawns, mussels, pipies, calamari, small chunks of chicken and some chorizo slices. It was an ok dish to eat, but overall, the rice was lacking in flavour in my opinion. There was no crusty bottom either. Certainly not the best I've had.<br/><br/>I had a lovely dinner and have no hesitation in returning. In the future I'd probably skip the paella, as there are other dishes I'd like to try, notably the seafood platters, fisherman's basket, the chowder and their 'Award Winning Recipe' fish and chips.

I came here and used my Entertainment Book voucher. They have won many awards so I wanted to experience the food for myself. It was good to see there were no issues with using the voucher as some places offer it but still kick up a fuss. I initially wrote nothing is great nothing is great about this place which was a bit harsh. the service was attentive and w were treated well but I personally felt I could have had better for the price I paid (even with the voucher). Personally that's my opinion which I still stand by but maybe it was just a bad night... give them a try yourself... I mean you can't win so many awards and be bad right? Parking is not bad in the area as it has its own parking lot attached to Harbourside and if you're lucky you can find some street parking.

We have lunched at The Blue Fish well over a dozen times in the last 6 yearsand have always enjoyed the food, wine and the service. Lots of competition here at Darling Harbour and I always thought this place held it's ground ok. A great place to enjoy lunch on Sydney Harbour during spring and summer. Until today......... despite there being several vacant tables outside, every single couple (us included.... obviously) who entered were told there were no vacant tables outside and were directed inside, where they obviously didn't want to dine. In the hour we were there, two tables outside with fresh air and views of the water stayed empty, initially i had asked to be re-seated outside as the tables were obviously available, only to see the "maitre de" (duh) scurry out and throw ( literally) "reserved" signs on the offending tables. The first time i have left this place without leaving a $20 - $50 tip. Needs a staff cleanout the "maitre de" is a pompous sneering tool. I doubt i will return, which is a shame as i really enjoyed lunching here in spring/summer over the last 6 years or so. Extremely disappointing but shows how just one poor choice of staff can destroy the vibe and atmosphere in any restaurant.

Excellent location (Duh!!). I have mostly visited them for breakfast. Service is good considering this place always seems understaffed on fairly busy days. Given my dietary restrictions, I have only a limited choices available, giving extra points for the presentation.

Location is great on Darling Harbour with a great view back into the CBD particularly with the night lights of the city. The service was adequate but improved with a few people leaving. <br/><br/>I had a grilled calamari salad which had a generous amount of calamari and was very tasty. I liked the pomegranate in the salad it gave it a little extra texture and a little burst of flavour. <br/><br/>Nice but probably will not return with so many other places in the area
Ang Khocolateman
This was written nearly a year ago when we went to Sydney to visit my family. The Khocolateman and I had a lovely day in the city together before we flew home. We came here over the Christmas holidays with the KhocolateMan's brother when we came up to visit my family. Darling Harbour appears to be being gutted since then, with the 2000 Olympic statue gone, the big water spiral gone and a new convention centre about to be built. It feels a bit soulless at the moment, but Blue Fish is just as laid back now as it was then, and the food is just as good!
Yuppiehippiechick
Very poor value and quality. Myself and three others decided to try Blue Fish. Their menu looked interesting. It was Vivid and we had a 4 yo in tow to keep amused. We had an outdoor table. The place had about 50% of the tables occupied. We ordered garlic prawns - $25 for 4 prawns, and they were obviously not very fresh. Then 1/2 lobster, over cooked, chewy, not fresh which cost $75. Our first drinks arrived promptly, but we were never offered another drink and my friend had to ask 3 times for another wine, it took 45 minutes to turn up. The food took over an hour to arrive. The 4 yo was starving. We got there around 7pm, we were served our meals close to 8,30pm. They had available green fluffy shawls for diners to use if feeling chilly, I was grateful for it and wrapped one around myself, I ended up covered in green fluff, all over my clothes. It took me an hour to get it all off using sticky tape. We will never ever return.
Chilli Feli
Great location along darling harbour, come here for a decent clam chowder and fish and chips.

Been going here for years but won't go back. Service had been no better than perfunctory right up until I asked for them to put up an umbrella as the sun was in my wife's eyes. "No. People are enjoying the sun" they say. My wife wasn't. Oh, and no one was actually in the sun. Except my wife. Went through the supervisor and then the manager before they finally put it up. The whole time the manager is in the background mumbling about people enjoying the sun. Funnily no customers seemed to mind. <br/>The only tip I'll leave them is make the customer happy and don't argue with them. Seriously! Never had restaurant staff start an argument with me before. Ever...

French sounding waiter ruined a perfect night.. Firstly fantastically priced food. I went around the back to inspect the quality of the kitchen and took a detour to the bathroom. Now if my girlfriend wasn't with me this afternoon I would have had my food sent to me there. Truly a privilege to poop in your toilets, gentlemen. The food was great quality also. Not a single burnt chip to be thrown to the sea gulls. Only downside being that our waiter was French. 4.95 / 5

Nothing shy of AMAZING. I wonder why this place doesn't have more positive reviews - it definitely needs the recognition it deserves. Booked a table for 6 for dinner last saturday (4th April) and were immediately seated and immediately greeted and tended to with a menu. We had two waiters serve us throughout the night but their professionalism and enthusiasm was consistent and well received by our table. <br/><br/>We ordered the greek salad (not oily, but delicious), the seafood paella (amazing) giant family share platter (amazing-er). There was probably a 20-25 minute wait for the food, but the quality of the seafood is impeccable, fresh and rather tasty. Never had squid in Sydney that was cooked perfectly and NOT chewy/rubbert AT ALL. You can taste the pride of the restaurant in the food!<br/><br/>Really enjoyed the night - the food, ambience and service are definitely of high standard. You only remember either really sh#t restaurant experiences, or the really great ones; guess which one this was? Thank you.

Rude and Arrogant. I booked a table for 2 on Sunday 1st March 2015 for our wedding anniversary. Because my children and grand children wanted to come I tried to cancel the online booking but no one answered the phone for the entire day and night the day before. I then re-booked online a table for 7 for the same day. On the day I actually went to the restaurant early to confirm the cancellation and also the new booking. Some bald guy rudely told me that they do not bother to answer the phone on Sat/Sun and they do not accept cancellations.<br/>We didn't bother to cancel the 2nd booking, after all they "don't accept cancellations" so we went to Nick's instead where, by the way, the service and food was excellent and the staff were friendly and accommodating.<br/><br/>Peter Matthews

Fabulous. The fish in this restaurant is really delicious and tasty, also it has good service

Seafood and chorizo paella - being a predominantly a seafood restaurant, we had to get a seafood dish. The paella had a nice smokiness to the rice and a decent amount of seafood and chorizo pieces. Sitting on top was a huge grilled prawn which was definitely the highlight of the dish - deliciously meaty Sirloin steak and chips - the steak was a tad dry, but drizzled with the jus made up for it.

I recently took advantage of one of those discount voucher websites offering a great deal.  I've had this deal a number of times before and it is well worth it.  2 buckets of prawns and a bottle of wine for 2 people for $29 at Blue Fish at Darling Harbour. ...We opted to order the Damper and two bowl of chips to go along with our prawns and you have a choice between white or red wine.  I'm usually a red wine drinker, however eating prawns and eating during the day I think white is a better choice.    Bottoms up Prawn Bucket...When the buckets arrived they were freshly cooked and no additional seasoning or flavour enhancers, just naked prawns!  I will admit that today's offering were not as briny as past buckets but the flavours were still good.. and the addition of big dollops of tartare sauce helped.

We followed the fresh oysters with the recommended salt and pepper squid – served steaming hot and vibrant golden brown, with aioli and lemon. The criss-crossed squid pieces were crispy/crunchy on the exterior with buttery soft (non-rubbery) squid meat inside, generously

Overall, Blue Fish Seafood Restaurant is very overpriced for what you get. With my voucher we ended up paying around $30 each – which is reasonable. Without the voucher, it would have been $45 each…it’s just not worth it when you can get a much more satisfying and memorable meal elsewhere for the same price. Only go if you have a voucher, otherwise go elsewhere for your fish and chips fix. I won’t be back.

Overall, good but overpriced. Though, looking back at the photos makes me crave fish and chips, which I can get at my local fish market for, wow, 1/4 of the price of what I spent in total. Maybe even less.

Ever wondered about those vouchers that seem to offer a lot? It did seem to good to be true however actually turned out to be a decent bargain! Blue Fish is in - or on - the Harbourside Complex, at the northern end facing out on to the water.

...seafood and chicken paella which cannot hold a candle to Jon's lobster!

Really nice restaurant in Darling Harbour. Food was nice and well presented. I'm a little suspect about where the seafood is from if it wasn't marked as being Australian. It seems strange that you wouldn't advertise if you have wonderful Australian produce. Also worryingly is a special feauturing 'Basa'. Food however was nice and fresh so can't complain!

Best Place for Seafood. This is my favourite place for a long lunch !<br/>Best oysters, tasty grilled seafood and fantastic wine list.Service amazing !<br/>With the views of the city it is perfect place to sit and watch the world go by while enjoying great food and wine

Management need to step up their game. Went here last night and boy was I disappointed. It was a relatively busy night, which is understandable being Saturday evening but the restaurant was understaffed. We were a group of 10, took 20 minutes for the waiters to take our order and another hour for the food to come out. When our meals eventually did come out, the portions were small and the fish tasteless. the Fried food (Fisherman's basket) and the seafood paella was decent but for the price we were paying, really really not worth it. Would not recommend.

HonestTruth. Would I go there for the food? Nope.<br/><br/>Pasta was bland, no flavour, the cold seafood plate were meager and not worth the money.<br/><br/>Would I go there for the atmosphere? Somewhat<br/><br/>But the value is not worth it. Our waiter was nice though, very attentive.

Liz & Frank Muston from England. We came to the Blue Fish with a group of 19 for a friends daughters 16th Birthday and the meals were fantastic. I had the Fishermans Basket and those opposite me had the shared platter which looked delicious too.The glass of Prawns looked good and on our next visit to OZ we will be trying those. <br/>That was on Saturday 3rd January 2015.<br/>I recommend this restaurant HIGHLY.
Reviewing
Relies on Darling Harbour tourist numbers. Basically any eateries along Kings Wharf and Darling Harbour seem to rely on tourist volumes, rather than look after repeat business by locals.<br/>We had the 'sourdough and balsamic' as an afternoon snack, along with 2 Coconut Mojitos. The Mojitos were ok, but the bread was seriously bad. For $6, I think we got 4 slices of Coles' cheapest tank loaf. And even then, it didn't taste or feel fresh.<br/>The service was ok, but one grumpy, unfriendly waiter panicked and called for help from his colleagues when we were paying our bill and 1 other couple walked in. It wasn't even busy, so I'd hate to see how he'd cope with more than 2 customers.<br/>So, as a local, I won't be caught again. To others, I recommend sacrificing the water views, and spending your money elsewhere in Pyrmont for a far better dining experience.

Disgusting. Walked in restaurant and asked for a table as we had four people waiting outside for 10mins and no one served us so that's why we walked in. Then when this cocky waiter came up to us and I said I need a table, he said can you step outside and walked off?wtf. So we stepped outside and the next waiter came and we asked for table for 4 outside, he said "sorry can't help you there" rudely. So we walked off then we saw a few empty tables outside as we walked off. A bunch of faggots I tell.

Good but not excellent for it's price, and service bellow average. Food was good but still miss "something" to make it cost effective.<br/>Service was very defficient. took more than 15 minutes to take our order on a nearly empty restaurant and didn't even offer drinks or canapes before order came in.<br/>A bit dissapointed at the end

Disgusting, over priced food! Waste of money! Terrible food!

Yuck Food, Yuck Service & Yuck Attitude. I ordered prawn linguine after being assured the prawns were fresh and not frozen. THEY LIED. My wife's dinner (curry seafood linguine) was inedible - revolting . My daughter's fish was so covered in oil, it would probably float if I threw it back in the harbour.<br/><br/>We politely provided feedback, however the waitress was very rude and said SHE DIDN'T BELIEVE US and our feedback "WOULD NOT CHANGE ANYTHING". Also, the manager continued to tell us our opinion was wrong. <br/>So much for customer service.<br/><br/>Presumably they prey on tourists and don't think they need repeat customers.<br/><br/>STAY AWAY!!!

Horrible service. Not worth it.
Tatiany
Horrible service! I can't say much about the food because I never got to order. I was waiting for a long time before I gave up and left. Waiters looked angry and prioritised to clean tables before taking orders.

Great service every time. I noticed that a few reviews have said service was poor. I have been here on four diffrent occasions this year, the last two weeks ago and every time I had not just good service but exceptional service. One young man who was french could not have been more attentive but was never intrusive. The sign of a perfect waiter. <br/><br/>This spit is becoming a favourite because it is sorelaxing sitting outside and the menu ranges from light snack food to big main meals. Wine by the glass is also first rate. I always enjoy my meals and the whole experience is a delight. I will be vsiting again next week.

Great food but the waiter was extremely rude and inhospitable. I would come back but after that kind of service I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Good. The service was faultless. It was a busy Friday evening and the staff were attentative though not overbearing. Mains were pricey, as to be expected for a restaurant in Darling Harbour. The barramundi was cooked perfectly and was ample in portion size. My only complaint is that the salt & pepper squid was by far too salty. The squid itself was cooked excellently, but the coating was overpowering. All in all, a delightful experience.

Not bad for Darling Harbour. Great value as an Our Deal deal - two buckets of prawns + a bottle of wine for $35 (the bottle of wine was listed as $35). Prawns were exceptional. A bucket of prawns is in fact only 1/3 of a bucket and the rest was ice. Having said that if it was a 1 to 1.5 litre bucket so that would be a lot of prawns if full. Perhaps if they had used a smaller bucket we wouldn't have felt we wanted more. Ordered fish and chips and calamari and chips as extras - both nice but slightly oily - maybe cooked at a bit lower temperature than they should have been - still a 7.5 - 8 though. We arrived at 11:50 for lunch and seemed forgotten for a while as they were finalising breakfast but after that the service did improve somewhat. The food and $9 for a beer at full price wasn't cheap, but that's Darling Harbour.

Great food, but customer service could be improved. Had birthday celebration with friend there. Food was fantastic! Unfortunately, customer service was a great disappointment. One of the staffs was being rude to us as he spoke to us in an impolite manner when we were just trying to request for water. It was quite intimidating to be treated rudely by staff who spoke in way as if he was trying to pick a fight. Ridiculously, the reason given was he was not in charge of the section where we were seating. It would be much appreciated if customer service could be delivered on a higher standard in fancy dining restaurant like this.<br/><br/><br/>-----13 May, 2014-----<br/><br/>Great food, but need to work on customer service.. Just had lunch here with our family (5 adults and 5 kids), and we were all very satisfied. Good sized portions of beautiful food, and while it is not a budget feed, the prices are fair! Service was great, and very friendly. We'll be back for sure!

Bit of a debacle..... Had lunch here today after winding up in Darling Harbour via the new Light Rail extension. It proved not to be a great choice. You know, I don't actually go into restaurants trying to find fault with everything- I like it when I enjoy my food- but Blue Fish made it pretty easy to feel disappointed.<br/><br/>We were seated and served some (very average ) sourdough pretty quickly but then we waited for AGES for our food. Yes it was a bit busy, but maybe only 70% full, so I was surprised at the wait. When food did arrive our two mains turned up before our shared entree (Moreton Bay Bugs) or the kids' meal for our daughter- who was getting very scratchy having waited so long for food. The mains were then taken away, without explanation or apology, but with a fair bit of surliness, and our entree was located. In fairness, it was fine. Nice Aioli.<br/><br/>We were still finishing the last of the entree when our mains turned up yet again. It was obvious they'd been sitting warming and drying out on the pass for the last 15mins. I was so disappointed with my Alaskan Crab Orecchiette. It was dry, rubbery, over cooked and very fishy tasting. It really didn't taste fresh to me. My partner's Prawn Linguine was better, but not great. Both dishes featured lots of large hunks of barely cooked garlic- yuck. Bear in mind both mains cost almost $40 each for pasta. Tourist-trap prices for pretty terrible food. I hope they do a better job of those buckets of cold prawns everyone seemed to be eating...<br/><br/><br/>Maybe I'm being harsh? I did see, during our long wait for food, several things walk past that looked amazing so maybe we chose wrong? Maybe they were having a bad day? All I know is that we walked away $200 poorer feeling pretty dissatisfied....

Heard great things about this place and was not let down. Had my birthday dinner here tonight with my family and the food was ON POINT! We had a large variety of dishes, my husband ordered the giant seafood platter for us and it was divine... so fresh and tasty! We will be back. Great food, great service and great location.
Choconut
Seafood was so bad, the crab and lobster had not taste. The waitress was "monitoring" us for the entire dinner. I didn't think about writing a review here until I went to a seafood restaurant last night at Beverly Hills and found out how big the difference in taste can be.

Nicole. Visited with a family group of 8 for a special occasion and could not fault the place. Ordered the family platter, cold platter for 2, paella and Greek salad and the food turned up within about 10 minutes - freshly cooked and an abundance of fresh seafood. Friendly service and great location. Would recommend.

I have been here on/off for more than 10 years and haven't found a bad dish yet. Love the paella !!!

I loved this restaurant!! Like the comment before me I'm glad I didn't read the reviews before hand as I probably wouldn't have come!!! SO GLAD WE DID! Beautiful outside spot, our king fish was cooked perfectly and the drinks kept flowing! The bay bug starter was also delicious! We will be back for sure :) loove it!

I had taken my wife here for a b'day dinner. Wanting to surprise her with a seafood platter. Upon phoning for a reservation , the staff took a while to answer the phone and didn't seem to have much politeness on the phone. The staff once we arrived were however courteous and we ordered the seafood platter for two. Overall the food tasted good but there was not much variety for a seafood platter. Even chips and garden salad were extra. I've had better food quality and quantity for that amount and for that reason I wont be returning.

Had the grilled seafood platter and it was delish! Service was great too our waiter was attentive. Would definitely go back when I'm at Darling Harbour.

Seafood feast. I recently shared a grilled Seafood Platter with a buddy & it was fantastic. We had 2 melt in your mouth Scallops, 2 King prawns (possibly the nicest I've ever had), several large pieces of tender Calamari, A tasty piece of Salmon & Barramundi each, finished of with a very meaty crab. We felt as greedy as the Sea Gulls!

Absolute WORST RESTAURANT EVER! I have never had such a bad experience at a Harbour side restaurant. The rude bad tempered waiter led us to a tiny cramped table for 4, where we ordered overpriced seafood that was not fresh at all. While waiting for our food, the waiter brought us the wrong food. When we did receive our food, we wanted to see if we could exchange the oysters because they weren't what we expected (size, taste, freshness), and the waitress was not accomodating at all. Overall, a terrible Saturday night out. Never going back and telling all my friends.
Cliff
The waitress didn't seem happy at all, The steak was burnt and bitter. Overall I would say it was ok but we wouldn't go back.

What a great venue on a sunny day. Seafood paella was excellent. ..service very much of a let down.

First & last time 24/8/14. Service was terrible. <br/>Paella: Mussel & Pippies were closed shelled and still served, no lemon with fish or shell bowls. <br/>Took more than 40 minutes for meals to come out, everyone around us was onto coffees and we waiting way to long for entrees. <br/>Waitors ignored our section, we got up, paid and promised each other 1st & last time!
Vicky Hsiung
The food is ok. Not the best. But the waiter's attitude is awful!! Worset service ever!! Never go again!
Luke Napoli
Terrible service. Went for breakfast on a Sunday morning, coffee was terrible, food was served cold, will not be returning

Impressed. I must say I was apprehensive going after having read some reviews in here which I find to be unfair or written by competitors. The meals we ate we're pretty good. Will be back

Keep walking past.. This was our worst meal in Sydney. The seafood platter was terrible and over cooked. I would have passed on the feedback however we were never asked. The waiter seemed put out that he had to talk to people. Keep your $100 and go next door.
