Review Plate Restaurant - Sydney

The eye fillet steak is amazing. We've been here regularly and I always order it, it is always perfect! The rest of the menu is great too. For a Darling Harbour location, the meals are very reasonably priced. The service is great and the people are very welcoming!

The service in this place is truly shocking! Rude waiters who are just not interested, and can't take orders correctly...it wasn't even particularly busy! In what appears to be a comedy of errors they did almost everything wrong. We had to ask for water, which was pretty much slammed down on the table. Waited a long time to get served, even though we called the wait staff and had a 3.5 year old with us. After ordering we were informed of a $3.50 per person Sunday surcharge, this was not on the specials board at the entrance and was not mentioned before we sat down. Took a good 25 mins to arrive with the food after ordering it, this was after asking what was happening at the 20 min mark - others who arrived after us had been served and were finishing up. Incorrect food arrived, one with dressing when it was requested and written down to come without, the other a Barramundi instead of the ordered Salmon - the waiter (manager) pretty much called my companion a liar despite the other 3 of us clearly hearing a salmon ordered. The rest of the food eventually came out although with cold potatoes. Too many other things that were also going wrong to make me even consider going back - it's been a very long time since I've had service this bad and I eat out a lot. They did "try" and make it up to us with extra beers and wine.

Well, they overcharged us by 50 cents (sign out the front said $14 for eggs Benedict and they charged $14.50) and the bacon was super fatty and average quality. Don't recommend but many places around here are also of bad quality so this is one of the slightly better ones.

Food was pretty good, service wasn't bad either.. in a decent location with reasonable prices on the food. Also if you visit the imax theatre before, present your ticket to them and you will get a FREE bottle of wine (red or white)

I was satisfied! Foods taste great and reasonable. My husband and I had a good experience eating kangaroo meat! Staffs are very friendly as well.

Dont be happy or you wont get served alcohol. Left just before food was served. Staff advised i had too much to drink even tbough i had 3 cocktaiks in three hours. What a joke. I am quite loud normally. 21 year olds telling 48 year olds tbey have had too much. What a joke. Went on to Tokii Hotel and then drove home sober. Would recommebd Tokio Horel any day. Staff are great. Dont waste your time at PLATE......

We bought a coupon from groupon and went to the restaurant same day. The restaurant was 10% full at 5pm and they did not get us in because there is a limit for groupon customers and told us we cannot use the coupon at the purchase date. Will never go or advise this restaurant.

I've been here a few times now and I really enjoy it. The food is good and I've never had bad service here and of course, it has an amazing view of Darling Harbour.

not a huge fan of the place (prefer next door waterfront TBH), had the rump which wasn't cooked to medium rare, a little overcooked imo and the steak was tough. point given for service which was pretty good although just marred by the taste of the food. not recommended

I visited this establishment yesterday, and found it to be very nice. We ordered steak, fisherman's basket, barramundi fillet. The food was fantastic, and so was the prompt and helpful service. We also received a free voucher for the breakfast menu at which we will try for sure.

Food 8/10

Ambience 9/10

Price 7/10

We dont give bad feedback and we do eat out quite a bit so we have had to relay yesterdays experience to other who look to visiting this restaurant. Decided to go here for lunch yesterday, what mistake. The menu looks ok but from the start we were disappointed. Asked for a glass of water only to receive a dirty glass with food stains still stuck to the side, we advised the waitress and were bought another water. Ordered the "Surf and Turf" plus the Fishermans Basket. Unfortunately the steak was well over cooked even though i asked for "medium well" what i got was "over well". The prawns, calamari and fries weren't too bad but the flathead fillets once again were overcooked and much too crispy for my liking, there was no feel of meatiness in the fish, it was just like eating a fist full of potatoe chips. Lastly we went to use our Entertainment Book voucher which was "buy one main course and get another for equal or lesser value free" - they DID NOT honour the Entertainment Book voucher and told me that the Surf and Turf was not a main menu item, so no discount was given. A hossible experience with customer service to match that spoiled an otherwise nice day. Avoid if you are a foodie, you WILL be disappointed ! There a number of much better places to eat in Darling Habour.

I applaud Plate for being one of the only places open for breakfast on a Wednesday morning in Darling Harbour. Having said that, a little work needs to be done on the food. My eggs benedict was served on Turkish bread that was burnt on the bottom and my eggs were slightly hard, not very runny. Coffee was nice and service was friendly.

Hmm... This was an interesting experience. We actually went to darling harbour looking for brekky on a week day morning and so many places were closed. We actually went to Plate because we were hungry and couldn't be bothered walking around anymore. The food seemed cheap on the menu but for pretty good reason. The eggs Benedict were small, with hard egg yolks and burnt toast. The hollandaise seemed a bit too lemon-y. The service was quick and it met our hunger needs although you pretty much pay for what you get.

Came here for dinner with my family using a Groupon voucher with a $200 max. Making the reservation was fine but when we arrived the service was pretty terrible. It wasn't all that busy but the waitress took ages to even bring out the table water. The food was also quite poor quality, see the photos for evidence.. and its not just the lighting but the actual taste that reflects the quality. We ordered the Oysters and they were actually the smallest oysters I have EVER seen. Definitely won't be returning here again. The Harbourside shopping centre side of DH definitely has some nice restruarants but this is not one of them!

Living in Sydney for many years, came with my wife for dinner on Sat evening & were surprised and dissapointed. Ordered Shank with mash potato. Mash potato was from packet - funny taste, cold and greasy substance. the half king crab was a thin claw with no meat. Overpriced food and bad service. Feels like another restaurant with high turn over of customers being ripped off.

good darling harbour view. but will not go again. food there is under average. Eye fillet is just soso. chicken wings are so much better. so not worth it.
Hello
The Plate dinner specials served throughout the week are great value for money. Our City Experts visited on a Monday and tried the 350gram rump steak with chips, mushroom sauce and a glass of red wine for a very reasonable $19. The steak was served beautifully rare and the house red matched surprisingly well. City Experts are also fans of both the hearty and vegetarian breakfasts on offer. The hash browns that come with the vegetarian option are the perfect start to a Sunday before a stroll round Pyrama Park in Pyrmont. Doesn’t have to be great food, just the view itself will be sufficient. $12 with a breakfast thats filling and a coffee/juice. You don’t really have to go to Plate either, the whole strip at Darling Harbour has $12 breakfast, so plenty of restaurants to choose from.

Confused... really not worth going. The menu is a little confusing- modern Australian mixed with Italian- neither done particularly well. The garlic bread was cheap-store bought, the pasta- not even close to restaurant quality and the tiramisu? What a joke. No mascapone, they cheaped out and only placed minimal biscuit around the sides of the desert bowl- filling it with cream. I left most of it as most of it was JUST cream. But- I guess that's kinda what you can expect when ordering Italian food from a place that obviously doesn't specialise in Italian cuisine. ..or know anything about it! For the price they charged I really ecpected more. My partner ordered the stuffed chicken breast, which was dry and pretty bland to be honest. I don't understand why they offer dishes they don't know how to execute well. To be honest, I have no idea how they're still in business.

With so many other places to choose from- choose somewhere else. Especially if you want restaurant quality food.

Rude wait staff!. We had pre-booked a large table for lunch but when we turned up we were squished onto a couple tables, with a couple people seemingly placed on table corners, after discussing amongst ourselves how inappropriate, before we had a chance to mention it to staff, one of the waitresses waltzed over, without saying a word and even making eye contact with us, started moving a table over for us but in an extremely rude manner. She slammed down chairs, smacked cutlery down & pushed a table over without even asking us to move aside. I've never felt so awkward & uneasy ever in a restaurant! She then walked away shaking her head which continued when she walked behind the bar to seemingly talk about us to other staff, still shaking her head. The most extremely rudest waitress I have EVER come across!!!!! Our eventual waitress was brilliant but due to the initial contact with the rude one it set the tone for what was supposed to be a nice lunch, I will never return purely due to the rudeness of that one waitress.

Another disappointing place in darling harbour!. Was not greeted by waiter, garlic bread was ordinary, 250g steak was prob 150g... very small portion with about 10 small potato wedges on the plate and little salad. overall unsatisfied..

Easily my favourite restaurant in Darling Harbour

Nice Saturday Morning. Fluffiest pancakes I have ever eaten. Friendly staff and reasonable prices. The others had big breaky's and eggs and coffees and they were thoroughly enjoyed too.

Great!. Used a scoopon voucher ($49 for $100 credit), staff were very friendly! Food came out in a reasonable time - not that I minded with those waterfront views.
Garlic prawns were the best! Salt and pepper calamari were decent. Kangaroo fillet with grilled vegies was the best kangaroo I've ever tasted, and VERY generous serving size! Gotta be at least 400g of kangaroo for $29! A bargain!

Nicely poached eggs. The food could have been warmer.Don't serve chai latte.

Beautiful seafood pasta. I had an entertainment voucher and thought I'd give this place a try despite mixed reviews. My seafood tagliatelle was delicious. The napoletana sauce was really tasty and there was a great variety of seafood - even a crab claw. Large portions too. My partner had the stuffed chicken breast which was flavoursome but slightly on the dry side which often happens with chicken breast.

Wouldn't accept my Entertainment Book voucher, saying breakfast didn't count as a 'main course'. Food actually wasn't bad, but because of the voucher issue I have to give a bad review and will also be bringing this to the ACCC. Hope they get their facts right for future customers.

Great Value!. Great value for money. Delicious food and friendly service. Reasonably priced compared to the prices we pay in Perth. Will definitely come back when I visit Sydney again.

Excellent food and value for money. My 80 year old mum just described the lunch she had at Plate today as the "best meal I've ever had out." She and her two friends, who lunch regularly, had the lamb kebabs, chicken kebabs and seafood basket and said their meals were flawless. This, and the excellent service, value for money and great coffee meant that it was a great dining experience for them all. Plate, if you're reading this - a big thank you!
Lauren
I had the breakfast salad with additional bacon and it was really good. Lots of it, fresh & tasty. Coffee was also good

Excellent food and service!. My wife and I dined at Plate last Thursday night (23rd May) using a Groupon/Scoopon voucher.
The food was vey nice and the service was even better.
The ladies working on the night were fantastic and a credit to the owners/managers of this restaurant.
We would have no hesitation in recommending or returning to Plate in the future.

Great service, however the website needs to be updated! Menu was outdated but staff were friendly and very accommodating. Overall food taste alright, nothing too special.give it a try if your looking for lunch or dinner with a couple of friends.

Came here withy partner and was seated almost straight away, ambience wise it's in darling harbour with nice views but the place is smaller than other places.

Food wise it was average, had the stuffed chicken which was nothing special, the dips had a taste unlike other dips I've had but my taste buds didn't think much of it. Why does it always feel like there is not enough bread too

It took a while for the food to come out

It's what you expect to pay god in darling harbour which makes it more expensive than it should be. Nil issues with using the entertainment book voucher

Overall I was disappointed, high prices you expect more

Been here three times and enjoyed each and every visit. The food is great; awesome breakfast and dinner was fantastic. The wallaby croquettes i had were excellent! Great staff, especially a very kind fellow the two times we had breakfast. Next time I'm back in Sydney, i'll definitely be back!
Jessica
Terrible Food. Seaffod platter was not fresh, very greasy and overcooked. One of those restaurants that takes advantage of a good location to drop the ball on food quality. We will never go back again.

There were lots if people eating at Plate, so we took that as a good enough recommendation that it was a good place for breakfast. We weren't disappointed. The service was fast & friendly. I chose the Breakfast Salad; baby spinach, warmed baby tomatoes & mushrooms, topped with Turkish toast & two poached eggs. My husband had Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon. For those two breakfasts plus two Cafe Latte's, the total cost was $32!! Great value, great service, great food. We'll be back!!
Irina
We just finished our breakfast! Good quality for more than reasonable price! Friendly stuff! I will recommend this cafe!!!

I would have to say that the kangaroo dish with seafood was possibly the BEST meal I have ever eaten! Will be back! Cannot wait to try it again

Promt, efficient, delicious, cheap. Brilliant breakfast.
Marcus Kornmehl
Overpriced, waiter smells line cumin, fish and chips tasted like herring covered in oil, reasonable tender lamb and tasty chips but lackluster accompaniments. Coul lift their game a bit for the prices.

I chose to dine at this restaurant while strolling through Darling Harbour as it seemed to have a variety of menu options. I ordered the $26 chilli mussels and was unimpressed with what came out on the plate. For less that 20 mussels in their shell and no Neapolitan sauce to dip my piece of bread or eat as a soup once the mussels were eaten. Value for money was very poor and the food is less than average.
Julia
Lovely breakfast with views overlooking beautiful Darling Harbour. Delicious hash browns and fried eggs. Coffee is average.

Mistakes galor. Made the mistake of eating here and the staff continued with mistakes all throughout my stay there. brought me the wrong drinks, bread, entree and mains were cold. disapointing

Simply amazing... Thankyou. Would have to say that the food, service and atmosphere here is amongst the best we have weve ever experienced. I had the marinara while my partner had the kangaroo and both of us could not think a negative thought about it. Our guests who also enjoyed there meals loved every moment. Our waitress who was in charge of this night was as pleasant as you would expect from 5 star dining and I can't wait to dine here again. Thank you very much for showing us a side of Sydney that we will never forget

Disappointment. With so many great eating options in Darling Harbour, this one is the one to avoid. Entrees were nice, but main courses were very ordinary. Some food was served tepid, some dry, and some just smelled bad. Staff didn't know who ordered what, and some were quite disagreeable.
Michelle
Disappointing. Went to Sydney for a week recently and made the mistake of eating here. The steak I was served was half fat and when showed to the waitress she agreed. The chef was rude and would not offer to replace or not charge. Horrible dining experience !

Melbournite loved The Plate. Had a wonderful lunch on Sunday and ret for dinner that evening on Sunday 2 May. Good prices, great service and lots to offer for myself being coeliac. Also had nice view of darling harbour together with a particular diner. Would recommend and will return when back in Sydney next time.

Great food in a great setting. Friendly attentive service. Recommended.

Friendly & attentive service, great menu, great food, $25-30 prices on the Darling Harbour waterfront. I shall return...

Fantastic. We went to Plate for breakfast on our last day in Sydney, and now we regret not going earlier. The food was great, and the service was amazing. We had two Hearty Breakfasts, one bacon and egg breakfast from their specials board, and Pancakes with maple syrup. They all tasted fantastic, were good value, and arrived at our table just minutes after ordering. I would definitely eat there next time I am in Sydney.
