Review Uliveto - Sydney

Lovely bright terrace, free fast WiFi, good coffee, friendly staff. Nice decor inside. Lovely bunch menu, and the omelette was really good and came quickly.

We stopped by Uliveto for a late breakfast and were not disappointed! The shop was quaint and the staff were friendly and efficient. My boyfriend and I got the egg Benedict and I got the pumpkin 3 cheese omelet and added chorizo and spinach and oh my, our meals were so delicious we cleaned our plates! Definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone!

Cute setting, perfect for a lazy Saturday brunch. Service was good, but food could've been better. Quite oily and heavy but will return to give them another try!

One of the best brekky cafe around Kingscross, great coffee and amazing food. The portion of the big brekky is unbelievable, the only down side is that the hash brown and bacons are slightly over cooked. Overall I would visit here regularly if possible.

I discovered this place a couple of years ago on my now annual trips to Sydney and have been many times since. The food is consistently excellent but more important than that is the happy and welcoming atmosphere. They are just adorable!

Grilled Salmon : 😊 Good
Corn Fritters : 😁 Great
Baked Eggs : 😁 Great

Neatly tucked into Bayswater Rd at Potts Point, Uliveto is essentially your typical cafe. Serving up nice food with a variety of pastries and cakes on display to enjoy. Corn Fritters were simple yet fulfilling. Baked Eggs were beautiful and bursting with flavour however the crust on the bread was a bit tough to eat. Grilled salmon was originally supposed to be the sous vide salmon but instead they gave us grilled salmon and instead of corn purée and octopus they gave up potatoes and broccoli. Simply telling us the dish was not available would have just been better.

Extremely average food here, especially the baked eggs. Not that it tasted bad, but it’s the worst baked eggs I’ve eaten. Not flavorful or unique or anything special. The atmosphere was nice though as it has a large outside dining area and the staff are all great
Susan
Food and service were both average. Coffee was okay, but there are better coffee places around. The Sous vide salmon I ordered was no longer available so I was given an alternative basic grilled salmon and vege dish, essentially none of the elements were kept. The corn fritters were also average and the poached egg yolk was solid inside. The baked egg was average.

A family friendly cafe with lots of ambience and great food. In my latest blog post I review this buzzing cafe worthy of a visit. Bring your pooch its pet friendly.

Amazing food, especially like the vegan bowl, eggplant caponata and the chia pudding. Indoor and outdoor seating available with heaters going when it’s cold. They have free dog walks with your meal which is really great!

Cute place set in a lovely outdoor courtyard very close to King’s Cross station so very convenient. Staff are very chill and not too fussed, and very efficient. Coffee was good. Was disappointed with my breakfast of corn fritters with poached eggs and avocado. Was not asked how I wanted my eggs but they came out hard, practically hard boiled not poached. The avocado was not fresh, looked and tasted more like a guacamole spread that was smeared in very small quantity along the bottom of plate under the fitters. Overall taste was underwhelming.

Came here for breakfast on a Sunday morning. Just take a seat anywhere and the waitress will be there with menus. We ordered the baked Spanish eggs and the Potato Rosti.
The baked Spanish eggs had a sophisticated mix of spices. The tomato based bake also had some Veges and sausage. It was served with a large piece of soft bread that was perfect to mop up the sauce.
The potato rosti was also flavoursome and filling, with both of us left very happy and full.
10/10 will visit again.

The French and Italians are well known for their fondness of long Sunday lunches in the sun washed down with copious amount of wine. Blessed with the warm Mediterranean climate and some of the best restaurants in the world, they see Sunday lunch as the most important meal of the week with no effort spared in making it as satisfying as possible.

Tasty innovative lunch and brunch items with fresh quality ingredients. Love their salads. Nice shaded outdoor seating and good service. A local favourite ✔✔

Al fresco setting, which is nice during summer ( or weird weather with cool breeze air, like today).
Coffee is just average, nothing to rave about.
Salad is seasonal, but chef doesn’t give enough care for the freshness of the leaves.
I ordered duck salad, with watercress, Mango and pomegranate, cost me $23
My watercress is old and slightly little brush and black.
Chopped coz lettuce was old too, losing the crisps over the leaves.
Mango is sweet and and pomegranate seeds is a little dry, maybe the leave it in the open for sometimes.
Duck however, taste good and season well. A little more over cook rather blush and pink!
Average salad and average coffee in general.

🚨 New Menu! 🚨
-
The Lowdown: When you mention Kings Cross to someone, the thought of a big alcohol fuelled night and kebabs instantly springs to mind. Fortunately, there are some trendy little eateries popping up all over the place - one of which is Uliveto Cafe. This cool little cafe is launching a new seasonal menu with items rotating on a bi-weekly basis; some which include Bulgogi Arancini with Red Aioli 👌, Eastern Spicy Fried Chicken Finger with Pickled Daikon 👌, and my favourite, Uliveto Fish and Seaweed Chips 👌😎👌. The Bulgogi Arancini balls with Red Aioli were a deliciously different spin on the usual, bite sized morsels of tastiness.
The Uliveto Fish and Seaweed Chips, don’t even… these things were so soft and tasty, the seaweed chips balanced it nicely with a nice crunch.
-
Pro Tip: This is a trendy little joint where you could take your partner for a good coffee and light food! Also, check out the wicked mural by Scott Marsh done for Uliveto!
-
Weapon of Choice: 🖖 Hands 🖖
-
Cost: $ varies between dishes.

Got invited here by Dr Social and the food was amazing!
It reminded me of something you would see in gossip girl.
They served us finger foods which were presented as if you were at a fine dining restaurant.
The presentation of the food was just beautiful and tasted great!
The service was also really good and the place is located less than a 5 minute walk from Kings Cross Station so is quite easy to get to.
Definitely recommend this place.
The Naked Food Addict
Headed down to uliveto for their re branding night and was very pleased! I fell in love with the arancini balls with red aioli (may or may not have had about 4), and their fish and seaweed chip's were incredible!! We received fantastic service and I am looking forward to heading back to try out their new menu! The restaurant looks really nice especially now with their new painting

Visited on what was a busy Saturday morning, coffee was great and arrived in a good amount of time. I ordered the baked Spanish eggs, it arrived after 25 minutes, the whites had not even begun to whiten, it was like eating a soup. The amazing double espresso was the only saving grace of this place.
The Next Rush
This seems to be the It place on Bayswater at 10am in the morning! Waiters hustling, the kitchen sizzles and art cappuccino after art cappuccino and fresh juice and smoothies being churned out at a fast pace while the personable owner, Chris makes time for each table personally making sure you and your party are content.

I was immediately drawn to the Eye Fillet because i didnt notice that on the online menu and seems to be a newer item. We're talking a large chunk of tenderloin just over an inch high. Its deceptive charcoaled exterior when cutting through reveals an exquisite red centre that couldnt be more medium well. Accompanied with salad and a large side dish of mushroom gravy enjoy the natural flavor of the subtlely season prime cut or bathe it in the rich sauce full of fresh mushrooms. The handcut fries are individually prepared just for you and placed with precision on your plate as an interlude or accompaniment.

Gorgeous indoor and heated outdoor setting, bustling vibe of some of Potts Point's elite and a perfect meeting point for large groups.
The very sight of this breakfast has my mouth watering all over again!💦Uliveto is a bustling cafe serving incredible #breaky and brunches in #pottspoint 🍴Enjoy many brunch-sational dishes from @ulivetocafesydney Spanish style eggs with tomato, capsicum, onion, garlic & spices🍳🍅Magnifico!👌🏻 @mybondisummer #uliveto #mybondisummer

Uliveto is quite deceiving. It's hidden away beneath a towering apartment building on Bayswater Road. The exterior is nothing fancy, but you find a way in between the scattered tables and the inside is cosy and comfortable. There are a brunch of friendly, smiling staff. The coffee is sensational and outside makes for a good spot to while away a few hours under the brollies.

Uliveto is a wonderful choice for breakfast, lunch or indeed brunch. Located conveniently in Potts Point, it offers a wide variety of delicious food and coffee options which can be enjoyed in a gorgeous outdoor setting.

We ordered 3 dishes and shared, the first of which was the salmon benedict. Shout out to the chef on this one - your eggs were poached perfectly, with a runny, oozy centre that drizzled over everything. Yum. The smoked salmon slices were super fresh, the sourdough was crunchy and the hollandaise was beautiful and creamy. This was honestly faultless and one of the best benedicts I've had in, well, ever. Would definitely come back for no other reason that just this dish.

The pumpkin and goats cheese omelette was next. We ordered it with a side of avocado and olive tapanade, atop 2 slices of beautiful rye bread. The omelette was smooth and fluffy, exactly as a good omelette should be. The chunks of buttery pumpkin and goats cheese were aplenty. I definitely recommend ordering a side of olive tapanade for a little extra saltiness and punch like we did. It was a good omelette - not amazing, but by no means bad. Its just unfortunate that the other two dishes were SO DAMN GOOD that this was a little forgotten.

Speaking of... We finished off with the porridge. It sounds boring, but don't be fooled - this is a must on a cold day if you're ever in the area. It was creamy and smooth in texture, and came loaded with cherries and bananas mixed through. The syrup/honey drizzled over the top added some extra sweetness. It was just so well balanced and really took porridge from being that boring breakky you make when there's nothing better in the fridge to something truly amazing.

Coffee was great too. I had a cappuccino and my friend had a long black. Mine struck that perfect balance where the coffee itself was strong and not too milky, but there was still a nice thick layer of foam on top. The barista did an amazing job with the coffee art too. The green juice we ordered was also lovely with some punchy ginger and no garden-like aftertaste. They balanced it well.

Overall, I had a memorable experience at Uliveto. Three solid dishes, good drinks, friendly service and a beautiful setting. Will definitely be back.
Spooning Australia
I was expecting a one of thousand standard cafe experiences in Potts Point/ Sydney. A place that makes standard cafe food but serves fine coffee. Instead I found an institutional cafe that is fanbloodytastic and aims to better itself and the local community.

Clickety click for full review and get your hungry on!

Hospitality runs in owner Chris Zafeirakopoulos’ family. He recounts to me how his father retired from running many hospitality businesses for four decades. His retirement was short-lived. After a mere 3 days Senior Zafeirakopoulos’ became restless and joined his son’s flourishing cafe.
Hereandthere
My friend and I came to try the second highest rated cafe in this area. Oh well, it didn't live up to such rating. Service was lovely but got our order not entirely correct. Both dishes were not freshly cooked. Bacons had definitely been pre-cooked. The plates were even hotter than the food itself. Our coffee were burn. Food-wise, dissapointed.
The settings were actually quite nice. Open air café with shade like this is a bonus. We have to admit though, it's relatively cheap.
Issac_eatsalot
Thanks to @zomatoaus I was able to visit @ulivetocafe in Potts Point for a lunch I'd wanted for a while.

Uli Burger: 80/20 blend wagyu patty, housemade aioli, iceberg, fresh tomato, housemade bacon jam, provolone and cheddar, crispy smoked bacon on a milk bun 🍔

This was a very good patty. Sourced and refined 👌 loved the smokiness from the bacon and sweetness of the jam playing together too. Top echelon cafe burger!
Baked eggs were very nice, had a good natural kick but the sweet corn stack was a little too sweet for me.
HungryBunni
Got this delivered through Uber Eats. We ordered the King of the Cross Burger and Crispy chilli chicken Burger – both dishes came with fries. The King of the Cross burger was a bit plain, needs another sauce on it, could just taste the cheese and meat. The ingredients were good quality though and the fries were yum. The Crispy chicken burger definitely had more flavour with the wasabi mayo and overall ingredients in this were more flavoursome for sure. Would be good to sit in and eat and try the other breakfast items next time. Came to $30 total for both.
Excuse Me Waiter
The cafe scene in Potts Point has definitely stayed bustling despite the nightlife suffering of late and Uliveto Cafe is no exception, full of hungry brunchers on the Sunday morning we drop by. It’s not the easiest cafe to find, as there’s no clear signage from the footpath, but it is nestled underneath the Crescent complex on Bayswater Road, right across from World Bar and Crane Bar. There’s plenty of outdoor courtyard seating or some seats inside the minimalist, narrow space that their busy kitchen operates out of.
Belle Russell
Worst breakfast experience in Sydney. Waiter was obnoxious. Initially delivered the wrong coffee order and then took about 30 minutes to receive a coffee the way it was ordered.
My dad had received and finished his hot meal and tea before I received a cold bowl of museli.

Was left eating by myself with no coffee.

So disappointing. Coffee was not even credited.

How King’s Cross and Bayswater Road have changed. It used to be a little buzz of activity, between Bayswater Fitness and Hugo’s Lounge, Bar and Pizzeria, and other cool restaurants nearby. I’ve read about the woes of those in the area, and I know a number of restaurants have had to shut down. So, it was interesting to check out Uliveto, who’ve got the entire ground level alcove, underneath an apartment block (and the former site of Hugo’s).

One of the positives of the state lockout laws is that we're all awake and can make good effort to experience Sydney's great cafes. This one in Potts Point is certainly one of those. The menu boasts all day breakfasts and lunch options, perfect for me as I can never decide between the two. Hubby and I went for the breakfast options and a lunch one to share. We hadn't eaten much last night, so luckily had an empty stomach. The waiter told us of the days specials and there were so many that could have tempted me. He had me at "bagel" so I got the half bagel with truffled scrambled eggs, smoked salmon and avocado. A very generous serving and a nice hint of truffle. Loved it. Hubby got the English muffin topped with blue swimmer crab, eggs benedict that were superbly cooked, runny to perfection. It was topped with a delicious citrus benedict sauce. The ingredients combined well to make a top dish. I'd suggest making this a regular.
I was also eying off the gnocchi so we got this to share. It was steaming hot, beautifully presented with a big plating of gnocchi with three pieces of pumpkin, rocket and goats cheese. The gnocchi was so fresh, with a surprise of pumpkin inside the gnocchi and cooked in a pumpkin sauce. What a tasty dish. I am very satisfied and very full. I would certainly be keen to come back, there were some things on the menu that I'd also be interested to try, such as the fruit bruschetta, poached lobster roll or cinnamon and buttermilk pancakes.
I need to add that this place has the best coffee art I've experienced to date. My first coffee had a dog in the art - I got so excited by the art, getting another with a flower design. Hubbys latte had the face of a person with glasses - how clever is that - pretty sure the barista is award winning in his field.
The waiter was very nice, friendly and attentive, filled our water regularly (more than the 3 hatted restaurant we went to a day ago) and had good knowledge of the menu.
The place was busy and there is alfresco seating and appeared to be dog friendly.
All in all, a wonderful experience.
Hungry Minion
One of the best burgers I've eaten in quite a while. The chef has taken his time to create the most amazing flavours. I highly recommend the Uliveto beef and bacon burger! You won't be disappointed.

The za'atar chicken was deliciously fresh, you might think the oregano would overpower the chicken but the balance is right on point with the smashed avo, feta and quinoa tabouli on pita proving to be a perfect side.

The Spanish style baked eggs are a must for an all day breakfast. Chorizo, garlic and capsicum baked in a hot pot take this dish to the next level- we couldn't eat enough of it.
Sir And Mlady Dine Out
This popular cafe/restaurant is in a prime position on Bayswater Road under a largish apartment complex and set in a lovely umbrella filled bay. It has an almost tropical feel to it - yet also a strong Mediterranean feel as well. Either way - it's a nice place that makes you feel comfortable straight away. We were in the area and looking for a bite and spotted Uliveto. It was busy but we managed to score a table for two under an umbrella and we were quickly served. After ordering our morning coffee's we chose our first meals of the day. Mlady went for the porridge - described as creamy oatmeal porridge with seasonal fruit. It arrived steaming hot and both looking and smelling great. It was a big serving too and she loved it. Sir was almost jealous he didn't have the same!

One of my favourite places for coffee in Sydney. Plus the food is always delicious and great value. Zatar chicken is definitely a star item on the menu

I love this area of Sydney. Beautiful gardens and lots of shady trees. The outdoor setting enticed me here for a lazy lunch. I sat down the and the waiter quickly came to take my order. I decided to go light, and went for the salmon and roe salad, and of course, a nice cold white. Food and drinks came out quickly. The salad was nicely presented and looked fresh and tasted wonderful. It was a good portion for lunch. I recommend this place if you are in the area.

Stopped by for brunch on a Sunday. Place had a few tables spare. Indoor and outdoor seating. Their coffee art is pretty impressive! You wont get anything like it in Sydney thanks to their talented barista Chai.

The lovely Chris told us to leave it to him and he would bring out some dishes.

Highlight dishes were:

-Smashed avocado, haloumi, roasted tomato, poached eggs, rocket on sourdough

- Spelt pancakes with banana fritters cooked in coconut oil and coyo

- Slow cooked lamb sholder with creme potato and red cabbage

- Kale, quiona feta, chicken, avoado

- Parsley sorbet on top of creamy base with meringue mushrooms and citrus curd (this dish will wow you pants off - tastes like splice!)

Creative dishes with great customer service. This place is one to visit if you are in the area!

We are here a lot coz it is friends local.

Had the spelt pancakes (pictured) today (from specials board). Love it. Sash went the Uliveto- being great value b&E with the lot for $12.

Chris and staff very friendly. Recommended.

This place is casual dining at a premium level. The customer service is highly attentive and very accommodating and the food is absolutely incredible. The location is very relaxed and the place has a great vibe. Make sure you check out the Chef's specials board because they chefs there are highly skilled and the food they create is amazing. Also definitely order the order poached eggs on toast because they cook the eggs perfectly !!! The coffee here is Little Marionette and barista Chai does the best latte art in Sydney - hands down.
Cameron
The service is usually OK but recently we waited 15 mins for 2 coffees (there were only three other tables with customers) and they got the order wrong! By the time my correct order came, my companion had finished his coffee. I don't give a toss about fancy "latte art", just give me good coffee in a reasonable time frame.

A M A Z I N G. As suggested it is a very animated cafe. I love the generous outside seating, gives a more lively vibe. But more importantly the food 👌
Caesar salad well done

Returned to Uliveto this weekend for brunch but it seems to be a shadow of its former, fabulous self from 3 years ago. The warm service, neighbourhood vibe and buzzing atmosphere have been replaced by sad vacant tables and haphazard service. When we were seated, 3 different staff wanted to take our food orders immediately even though we'd barely had time to crack open the menu. As soon as our orders were in, all the staff seemed to disappear from the floor and it was a challenge trying to get any water refills.
The food is also very average now, certainly nowhere near the generous and delicious food I remembered from earlier visits. My skim cappuccino was nice. Best part about our brunch this weekend was the outdoor dining which remains a great spot for leisurely watching the world go by. It's a bit sad as I've had some great memories of brunch here - only wish I'd visited a bit more before things went downhill. As it is, I'll be on the hunt for a new haunt this side of town.

Good coffee and friendly service. Tuna baguettes also tasty. The rest of the food not quite as exciting. Parking tricky which means I don't get there as often as I'd like.

Perhaps it was the curse of high expectations but I wasn’t blown away. Tasty enough, but I wouldn’t say I got smacked in the face with flavour. The accompanying bread appeared to be store-bought but was handy for moppin

Uliveto in Potts Point provides one thing all deep-sleeping, afternoon-awaking zombies such as myself need: all day breakfast. Yes, all day breakfast. If you're not a fan of morning sun, the smell of dew on freshly mowed grass, then Uliveto provides you with peace of mind - you can sleep at the crack of dawn, wake up at 1pm and still have an awesome breakfast/brunch provided to you at an extremely affordable price range.
Suzi
Always satisfyingly consistent.... An institution worth coming to just for the people watching. Great, uncomplicated food, friendly efficient service.

Tasty and Hearty Breakfast. Our first time at Uliveto and the breakfast was great. We had the Spanish style baked eggs and the pan-fried potatoes, mushrooms, onion, bacon and egg.

The baked eggs (two of them) were served on top of a tomato-based sauce, which included chorizo and capsicum, in a small ceramic dish along with bread and butter on the side. The dish was flavourful and hearty – perfect on a chilly winter's day. The egg yolks were perfectly runny and the bread could be used to finish every last bit of the tasty tomato-based sauce. Something different for breakfast and very enjoyable.

The panfried potatoes and eggs was a plate of slices of potato laid out with two runny-yolk eggs on top as well as spinach, mushrooms, red onion and bacon (in small pieces). We enjoyed this dish a lot as well. It wasn't particularly flavourful at first, put with a touch of salt and pepper, it was perfect and quite satiating.

We also ordered two coffees – a latte and flat white. There was nothing to complain about with the coffees, so we were happy. The froth was nicely done and they tasted good.

Lastly, the service was friendly, attentive and quick. We had a pleasant time and enjoyed the atmosphere.

We go to Uliveto regularly, largely because our friends live nearby and have a puppy now which needs outside seating and laid back clientele.
Having used to live in KX, in fact the cafe scene is disappointing and Uli is one of the better than average offerings.

They occasionally forget orders and I can imagine one or two of the staff taking immediate dislikes
to some Customers, but the new ownership has improved this place.

Worth a try
Djedboy
Great spot. Every time I'm through in Sydney for the weekend I go here for brunch. The 'Uliveto breakfast' is excellent value and not greasy and heavy. Also love the eggs benedict The setting is great. Nice outdoor area and a great buzz about the place. Can't fault it.
Bine.t.e
I love it :). Fabulous place to have breakfast in the sun.
Staff is very friendly and the food is very good.
Marlen
Nice outside garden area. Exellent for a sunday morning breakfast in the sunshine. The outside sitting is like a little "garden" with shaddow and sunny places. I was always for breakfast there they have a big range of breakfast dishes on the menu which are all worth to try. Its a short walk from kings cross train station so easy and quick to get there. You have to try any type of coffee to see the art of the milk foam on top!
Ronin47
More misses than hits. Hits and misses with this place but the food gets it over the line. Weird sort of setting in the Cross. Breakfast menu has lots of choices - Welsh rarebit? Had the pan fried potato which you don't see that often around the trips - this was fine although the ever present spinach - spinach is just everywhere these days and not sure why.

Funny to see the manager chatting up blondes then having to get told by staff to get to work. You get your own water in an outside tap - made me think of a garden tap so only took one sip. Side of chipolatas had something on them - dukkah? Wish they'd given me the choice - I saw other plates go by and dukkah seemed to be on everything. Salt and pepper only on every second table - this is cheap.

Best breakfast. We're from "out of town", staying in a near by hotel with no restaurant so eating out is the go. So - we found Uliveto Cafe - and also found a GREAT breakfast. The service was excellent and the food was wonderful. I could not find anything negative about this excellent cafe in a beautiful spot nestled in Kings Cross. Love the atmosphere. We'll be back !

Cafe culture = Uliveto. Poppyseed cake, coffee, music, sun, locals and a smile from staff...delicious

Fantastic breakfast / brunch! Excellent food, fun and quick service, generous portions and great value. All day breakfast menu a great combination of traditional and creative. Came here on a rainy Monday morning and it was sill buzzing - now I can see why! Definitely recommend :)

Improved Service. I've been back to Uliveto recently and they must be taking notice of the bad reviews -- the staff were friendly and while my order didn't arrive super-quick, it was delicious and the coffee was great (and still hot when it arrived). Let's hope they continue this way!

Give it a second chance. Like the other reviews, Uliveto left a bad taste in my mouth. While we were waiting an excessively long time for service, I had a good read of the breakfast menu. If you want choice, you got it. Unfortunately I didn't get to try it because we decided to leave and go somewhere else that actually wanted to serve us, and without the attitude. However, I decided to give Uliveto a second chance about a year later; yes a year later; you don't forget bad service. Staff were prompt and friendly this time, and the food was satisfying. I think there will have to be a round 3 just in case that was a stroke of good luck. Keep it up Uliveto and you may just become my favourite local breakfast joint.

The slowest coffee service in Sydney. Complacent.. What a disappointment!!
There is a sign at the Barista station asserting proudly "The Best Coffee in Town". It should however read "The SLOWEST coffee in town" That would be accurate.
Each of my 2 coffees took 25 mins to arrive. And when they did finally come, they were luke warm and no better than average. The same happened with my colleague's coffee order.
The service was considerably sub-standard.
My Trout Omelette was however delicious, but my overall experience was marred and scarred. Complacency ain't a good formula, is it?!
Restaurants
Absolutely disgusting. Shocking service, wrong order, cold food, disgusting attitude and accused of being a liar. If you want this then sure go have a blast. The food is underrated and you wait ages for it. It has been the worst experience. The old men who own it better change their attitude if they want to retain customers.
