Review At Bangkok Restaurant - Sydney

M
Haven't dined at Capitol for years and this was always a memorable Thai joint! It's retained it's level of satisfaction! Go here! Table of 4 seemed very reasonable for the amount of food ordered! Wide variety and licensed!

I really liked the 'street food' vibe. The advertising street signage is bright and vibrant and lighting gives the space a late night feel. However, the food isn't anything particularly special. It's pretty standard. The chili chicken and basil was ok. The Pad Ka Nar (pork belly) dish we ordered had so little pork belly in it that it was basically just greens and sauce. I would have liked crispier skin on my pork belly too, but that was a minor issue. These dishes aren't cheap. It's about $20 per plate. I think this place caters to people on their way somewhere rather than being a destination restaurant. It's convenient for Central Station and the theatre.

Live music and place opens till 1a.m. Good vibe, good for late night meal. Not too crowded on a Monday night. Serve is quite big.

It’s a great vibes. Nice set up of the restaurant, but the service was bad. We ordered an appetizer and a main meal for lunch we had our main meal and one appetizer but the spring rolls was taken a long time, we had finished our food and still nothing for spring rolls. Not even sorry they said yea it’s coming. Not even busy it was Wednesday that day. Not a good experience for us, but the food was great taste.

Nice place with live music. Very reasonable price. A bit crowded though. Hard to order in the loud music. Highly recommended!

Authentic Thai food with an extensive menu and some cool deco. Well worth a visit if you're in the area with reasonable prices and fast friendly service. Try the Asahi Black on tap! Open till real late.

Great food! Best service! Always come here when I miss Thai style noodles. Never been disappointed. I took dad here today for Lad Na. He loved it!! He'd tried a few other places since he came from Thailand, but he'd never impressed with any of them. A lovely male staff took a group photo for us (me, dad and my 2girls). It's gorgeous!! I LOVE it!!!!! Staff here are polite and helpful. This's my favourite Thai restaurant.

One of hidden gem in the city that served Thai food. The food is creative and legit. Love their Thai shaved ice 🍧. Order their special fried fish.

A decent Thai restaurant in Capitol Square. Lots of people dine in here in weekday noon but it’s still easy to find a seat. Boat noodle was spicy right on spot. Pad Thai was lack of flavor but that’s alright. If you can take durian, then a sticky rice durian will be a perfect dessert for this meal. It was a warm dish while Chat Thai served cold for sticky rice mango. Both are my favorite Thai desserts. Surely a nice place for Thai food lover!
Jasmine
Overall nice and tasty thai food. My go to is their pork ribs soup, so spicy yet so tender and full on flavours. Service is ok. Although I try to avoid this place on the weekends as it is really noisy because of the parties and live music. I know some people might like this atmosphere better but I enjoy not overly crowded and quieter place to dine.

The food that we ordered never got delivered in total. We had guests at our place and got half of what we ordered and in different combinations.<br/><br/>The restaurant was aware of it but chose not to entertain. They kept us waiting for an hour to confirm if they could send the food and when we called them from our side they didn't even entertain. Disgusting service!!

Attracted by pictures of dishes on zomato. Seems the menu has changed, some dishes are not contained in the menu. Me and my friend ordered 3 courses, half of the soup and the salad was left cos the amount was so much. Have to say that the pork rib soup was incredibly tasty! The mixture of sour and spicy flavor was perfectly good. Ribs was my favorite . But the giant yellow crispy thing in the salad, didn't figure out what exactly that was , but it was nice too. Fried rice was also a must-try. There was abundant seafood in it and pineapple as well. So much satisfaction having this kind of thing in front of you.

We were in a huge rush to go to a show and they promised they could get the food out in 5 minutes. They delivered on this promise. Fresh, healthy and tasty thai food. We enjoyed the pineapple seafood fried rice, chicken basil cashew nut stir fry, beef stir fry and pad thai. Casual venue and not too pricy.

Went for Saturday night dinner. It was jam-packed with live music, but we managed a table. Ordered Spicy Barramundi, Crab Fried Rice, and Grilled Chicken along with Beer and Red Wine. They asked if we'd like the Fish to be extra spicy, and we went with it. Turned out to be really really spicy (I liked it, but wife couldn't eat). Also, I thought maybe we should've gone for steamed fish as against fried. Fried rice was average, and music a but loud for the setting.
Ed
The plan was to dine in but I asked my order to be takeaway instead. The live music was loud and someone presumably on drugs was causing trouble for the proprietors. He was accusing them of allowing someone to nick his bag while he was dining at the premises. They weren’t responsible for his lack of vigilance but they could have done a lot more to de-escalate the situation and called in the police earlier to handle the increasingly volatile patron. Back in the safety and comfort of my hotel, the BBQ pork and sticky rice were delicious.

This is a pretty good Thai restaurant located in the Capitol building. I’ve been here a few times and my favourite dishes are the pineapple fried rice and the durian sticky rice dessert. The Thai milk tea is also great. I also like the papaya salad, pad thai and pad see ew which are pretty good classic dishes to share as well.

Quite large portion with Reasonable price! Suitable for a small causal get-to-gather. <br/><br/>Ingredients are fresh and nicely presented. <br/><br/>Thought it is a small diner, the range is quite wide and they have mini lunch special with only costs you less than $10. <br/><br/>Overall, quite satisfied!
Annie Nguyen
The banana fritters (2/5): we’re very underwhelming and had a weird aftertaste <br/><br/>The shaved ice dessert (3/5): The shaved ice pieces were too big and frozen. We couldn’t really dig our spoon into it and there really wasn’t enough jackfruit, beans and jelly pieces for us to enjoy. Most of the time we were just chewing on big chunks of ice.

Worst Thai food I ever had in Sydney, have to eat with water to wash the taste away. Totally overrated. Fried rice is tasteless and the chicken curry was okey (curry is good but inside the chicken have no taste.

Great environment, good food, felt like I was at Bangkok, the waitresses was really sweet coz the menu had a different number and they gave us a different food, yet it was tasty, still the girls managed it well. Great place as well! Came in with nine of us and the bill was only AU200 after food and alcohol.
Miffy7
We can here for dinner before watching a show at the capitol theatre which is what many of the other diners had in mind. The staff were friendly and the food came out fast. We shared the soft shell crab appetisers which actually came after the main dishes. We tried their red duck curry which wasn’t as spicy as we thought it would be as it had a 3 chilli rating. This had the same chilli kick as the 1 chilli crispy pork. All the dishes were okay but nothing that amazed us. Still we came here from my SIL recommendation as she is Thai and seems to like this place.

Good food. Not so great service. A lot of waitresses but only one is working. The table next to us got really annoyed after about 15 mins no one came even near ! Our waitress was very lovely and friendly. They open til late everyday and the food is quite good !

Came here with a 2ppl voucher from groupon. One of our favorite groupon experience. Yummy food with loads of flavours and very generous serving size<br/><br/>Drinks was a touch too sweet but overall a very pleasant experience

Honestly I love Thai food but a little upset with the service girl that the counter is not really Thai nice as I know greeting are fail shame for you hospitality

To the owner or manager of this Thai restaurant,<br/><br/> Can you please kindly retrain your staff of how to greeting customers. I came in the restaurant as customers. But no one even say hi when they approaching just pointing to the table then when they came to give us the menu. The staff just flied the menu to the table. I have been to a lot of the restaurants but the restaurant that I always go back because of good food and customer service. If your staff don't have service mind or not happy with something. Once when they meet customers, they still need to do their job properly. Otherwise, I would recommend the staff to find other job that suit them. <br/><br/>Cheers,

@Bangkok is cosily located inside Capital Square. Had the pad Thai and masaman curry, which were quite nice. The famous fish cloud salad (yum pla foo) was served with green apple and fish sauce based dressing. To be honest, I ordered it because it was chef’s special on the menu... and didn’t expect it to come in a junk of deep fried batter.. that didn’t taste like fish. Never tasted the original version so not sure if it was good or not, but not really my cup of tea. Overall it was alright.
Brunonono...
Have to say some very decent Curry Dishes, however it'd stay clear of the prawns...as there's over cooked prawns then there were these ones that well I don't know what they did to deserve a fate like this...<br/><br/>But yes the Duck Red Curry...definitely ordering you next time!<br/><br/>

Awesome restaurant! Food all yummy and staff is professional. I used Liven app to pay and got my cashback $50. I will definitely go back here again!

Really nice food! We had the pineapple fried rice and a few other dishes. Cooked well. We had to move tables a few times however we were seated at a nice table in the end. Nice Thai place to visit.

A Thursday night outing to have dinner with the in-laws and a cousin of my wife who she had never met before from Canada. We had booked, so there was a table ready for us, but it wasn't in a good position with a baby chair (that they did have, the in-laws forgot to ask if they had baby chairs when they booked), so they were happy to move us to another table which was a little more out of the way than the main section (thoroughfare) of the dining area.<br/><br/>They were fairly patient with us in regards to how long it took to order, and in the end we ordered a large amount of dishes.  <br/><br/>We had the fresh salmon 'rolls' in a zesty chilli lime dressing, which was really amazing.  I probably could have just had that dish alone for dinner and be satisfied.  <br/><br/>We got a pineapple fried rice, which was very ordinary and lacklustre as not only did it barely have any pineapple, there was no real taste in it either. The fried rice tasted more like it had curry powder added into it, and they just shoved the hot rice into the cored-out pineapple. <br/><br/>We had a green chicken curry and a red duck curry. Both of the dishes tasted nearly the same in the curry sadly, but the chicken curry had a good amount of meat , while the duck had a reasonable amount of meat.  Both curries had the same mix of vegetables in it, which I think contributed to why they ended up with a very similar profile.<br/><br/>We ordered a chicken cashew, and also a pad thai. Nothing out of the ordinary there either, fairly plain. The pad thai was even a little on the bland side than normal. Very disappointing unfortunately.<br/><br/>We had a soft-shell crab which was okay, but it was just one single small soft-shell crab (they generally are small, so that wasn't a big deal), but it had been cut into rather large pieces so it wasn't really suitable for sharing.<br/><br/>We also got the seafood platter, which had a combination of grilled salmon, a shredded salad, cuttlefish/calamari/octopus rings, a soft-shelled crab, four large prawns, and some vegetables. Unfortunately it was all sitting in a dressing, so the soft-shelled crab got soggy.<br/><br/>We didn't order any drinks of desserts so there wasn't anything we could say about that.<br/><br/>The overall experience was close to neutral, so I would have rated a 3, if it wasn't for the salmon. That was enough to pull the whole rating up to 3.5.<br/><br/>Also, for the total number of dishes (plus 4 additional portions of rice), was $194. Which for split across 7 people was fairly reasonable. <br/><br/>TL;DR - Okay tasting food, reasonable pricing.

The question is - how many Thai restaurants can they get into one square kilometre of CBD space? Maybe it really is, how many are to many? Well the answer to both these questions is unknown for now. The area keeps blossoming with new Thai restaurants and they keep getting plenty of eager customers.

We had a satisfying feed at @Bangkok. Highlights were the fresh salmon rolls entree with a zingy dressing that whet the appetite, the crispy pork belly with Chinese broccoli and the ling fillet curry, which was mild and creamy. I did enjoy the corn fritters too as they were mostly corn kernels binded together with some batter (egg?) but they were really, really oily. The fried rice was solid but not that memorable; the pork curry tasted like pork stirfried in curry paste without the flavours permeating the meat. <br/>The place was buzzing on a Friday night and they're open till 4am so a good option for anyone with the midnight munchies. A decent alternative to Chat Thai across the road, especially since they take bookings.

You can never go wrong with this restaurant! It 's a perfect place for our weekend dining and esp for Thai cravings. My all time favorite is dish no 28 and then dish no.19 and 35 ( sorry I can't remember the names.) Food has always been amazing at this restaurant. It never fails to satisfy our tastebuds. Esp the deep battered basa fillets, (dish no28. In the pic) is a must try..it a so delicious and still light to your tummy! The best dish @ Bangkok <br/>I will keep on exploring more of your soup menu next :-*

As a big thai food fan, I had a satisfying thai meal at @bangkok. The place is nicely decorated,a modern and calming setting in a busy china town mall. 2 of us ordered three dishes to share. The boat noodle is slightly different from the one that I used to have at melbourne, however it tastes delicious;richer soup and tender beef. Highly recommend to order this without the chilli. My second favourite is their kha nom jeam nam ya. Ever since I tried this back at a thai restaurant in msia and chiang mai,I fall in love with this dipping style with side dishes kind of noodle. However, not all the thai restaurant serve this. This nam ya sauce is slightly different from the commonly seen curry sauce and I was told it is a southern thai sauce ;while nothern thai make it other sauce. Regardless, it is superb. My all time favourite grapow here is however very spicy. As the menu doesn't mention any chilli or show any chilli,I naively thought and forgot that this dish is actually spicy. I reckon it's equivalent to two chillies. Despite that,it is still yummy . Will definitely be back .

Went on a groupon voucher on a Thursday night and it was quite busy. Food was delicious, fresh and nicely presented, and was served quickly. We had the betel leaf prawn appetiser (highly recommended), minced crispy fish with sliced apple topping, massaman beef curry and bangkok ice to share for dessert. Service was friendly though the table we got was a bit small to fit all the dishes. We thought the normal menu prices were very reasonable and we'd be happy to come back again.

I've never been to the actual restaurant itself, but the hotel I would usually stay at has @ Bangkok as their room service. We would order room service at every stay. We would tend to order the crispy pork belly with vegetables, their chicken larb and their green curry. Food is exceptionally delicious! Their larb is to absolute die for!!!! Has me going back for it multiple times and it has the right amount of heat to the dish. I definitely recommend this place to those who are staying at Meriton Apartments on Campbell street as room service, and for those who would like to try out their restaurant. Won't be disappointed! 🙌🏼👌🏼

Me and my partner came here on a Groupon voucher. The food is very good and we got our money's worth. The steamed barramundi was tasty and fresh. I recommend it to people that like Thai food.

It's located inside of the Capitol Square Building.<br/>'Bangkok' is always busying. I came here as my farewell and was my first time. Staff were friendly and It was very comfy to stay here.<br/><br/>I had Duck Green Curry $15<br/>and It was dissapointed to be honest as in It says 'duck' green curry but oviously the duck was not enough for the food, feel like eating just normal green curry. And I felt it's overpriced. Taste was average but too sugarly.<br/><br/>I like the salad of the photo I posted, sour, sweet and a bit spicy. I don't know what's the base one called but it was fried and yummy! It went well with salad and can't stop eating. <br/><br/>I'd like to come again and have the salad and tried other food but maybe not for the duck curry. Hope the taste gets better by next time.

Went there on Sat after movie.  It's fully booked.  Food served very fast after ordered.  Pineapple rice with seafood is yummy.  Massman beef serving is generous and taste good.  The corkage is $5 each person, that is a bit too much.  But the food is good, will go back again.

Been here so many times for lunch. Great value for money and food is amazing. Thai food tastes just like you're in Thailand! Amazing lunch value menu

I had a nice service, nice staff, food was wonderful (and I went late night) and everything for a really good price. Can't complain, all good.

Located in Thai-town, hidden gem in Capital Computer Centre Square Haymarket. Great place for lunch and dinner with bold and spicy Thai flavors.

@bangkok Thai situated in capital theatre this place is either pretty packed or not, you can't miss the big neon light of Bangkok starring at you when you enter. The staff are very attentive and seated me at a table. I decided since it was a cooler day to get the boat noodle soup with pork, fish balls, shallots and pork crackling and thin rice noodles. The soup was quite spicy and definitely left a fire in my stomach, the pork was quite tender as well as the rice noodles. I had to eat the pork crackling before it got to soggy in the soup but overall it was quite a satisfying dish to have for lunch.
Kristaps
The restaurant was absolutely bustling last night. Good atmosphere. I had the Pork Rib chilli soup. The broth was very nice and had good depth of flavour with galangal and kaffir line leaves. The meat was as little tough and not falling apart as it should be.

Late night central for good thai food. I think I have never been here before 9 pm EVER!! The service on all my visits was very prompt. I have enjoyed all my meals in this restaurant. Recommended if you are in the city and want to grab a bite late at night.

1. Not really big restaurant <br/>2. Sometimes busy sometime no <br/>3. Inside the capital square <br/>4. The food taste is good <br/>5. The price still worth it <br/>6. Some of the staff, the English language not really good but they are friendly <br/>7. I like it :)<br/>8. Recommended :)<br/>

Great location and tasty food! Service here is always nice and quick. This was my second time coming here and I was satisfied with their food. I loved papaya salad(I added extra pork). Pad kee Mao was bit different than I expected but all in all, I like the restaurant.
Simply Starving
Ordered takeaway from @ Bangkok and it was delicious. Easily the best Thai I have had in Sydney. The chicken cashew nut stir fry was full of flavour, yet still light, and the beef massaman curry had an incredible sauce! The portion were big and the quality was high. Loved it!
Nick SungYun Kim
I can say this place is NO.1 Thai restaurant in city.<br/>If you are lucky or you go there on weekend, you can see live band too.<br/>Loved their padthai and green curry, those are my favourite.
The RnB Diary
Despite being inside a shopping centre, the decor was smart, bright, clean, and inviting. That's what I attracted me in the first place when I wondered aimlessly for a lunch option. In addition to the old time classics such as pad Thai, pas see ew, there were also some unfamiliar names. I ordered choo Cher chicken, which was almost like red curry but with less coconut. The portion was good in sauce and vegetables, but a little light on chicken. They also charge 50c for a take away container without informing me. I let them off this time!

The service is a little slow and needs some work. The food itself is what you pay for. Not spectacular in any way but does the job without offending <br/><br/>Overall still not bad when taking into account location and value for money
Pollo_pesce_me
Pretty average tasting Thai, started with three entree dishes which were Poh Pae Salad Goong, Betal Leaf Prawns and my hubby ordered Thai traditional sausages. <br/>First of all  Poh Pae Salad Goong sounded good (spring roll filled with vegetable and prawn in Mayonnaise salad) and the picture looked pretty delicious but we were let down, it's basically deep fried battered rolls with Coleslaw inside, no prawn was seen however serving was massive; it’s good enough to share between 3-4 people. Betal Leaf was uneventful, flavor wasn't very exciting. (I love this entree when done well) My hubby mentioned the Thai Sausage was very overpowering with garlic, he said “interesting” sausage. For main ordered Papaya salad with soft shell crab and Pad Thai chicken. Papaya salad had its potential but I found the shrimp too pungent and fishy, left me with horrible after taste. Pad Thai was bit sweet.  <br/>All in all, Service was good and food came out fast but I can’t say I was impressed with taste of the food.

Great vibe, cool surrounding and delicious food - perfect for a chilled lunch in Chinatown or pre-theatre dinners. Definitely the place to go for classic thai dishes done well. Paired with great T2 tea and friendly staff.

OMG @BANGKOK!! Where have you been all my life??? This foodie dinner was definitely not planned or expected. And you know what they say the least expectations you have the least likely you are to be let down! And this place definitely didn't let us down! <br/><br/>The flavours! The choices! The service! The location! And the price! All 5 star! <br/><br/>We ordered the papaya pad thai and seafood hot (and we mean HOT!) plate with steamed rice. We're greeted and seated promptly and pleasantly. Orders taken and food on our table within 15 minutes! Winning! <br/><br/>The flavours were intense! And ones that will be remembered and referred to for sometime! A true representation of Thailand culture with every bite!! Plus the servings were very decent 😊😊😊 <br/><br/>All up $40 for two people and a guaranteed return from me in the future!

The pineapple fried rice is my all the time favorite.<br/>Service was friendly and in time.<br/>Location is easy to get to.<br/>Just the place is always packed and I may have to wait for about 20 minutes oto get in.

Went there on a late Fri night when Chat Thai had already closed. Food was good. Liked the live band playing there at 2am. Good place to go to for a late supper in the city.
Nadiaargh
Love so much. The entire menu looks so good, and the dishes we tried were amazing. It was everything we had wanted! The food was so fresh, meat so tender and the flavours were a huge thumbs up. It's got more than your usual Thai restaurant, and the setting is pretty and serene. The prices are amazingly good for the quality of food. Recommended! Definitely coming back, very soon.

Situated in Capitol Square, At Bangkok serves authentic Thai food. The dishes here are a mix of your tradition Thai food including pad thai, tom yum etc as well as some more exciting eats like the green curry.<br/><br/>Like most Asian cuisines the portions here are generous and there is no doubt you'll be leaving satisfied . The curry I ordered was seasoned beautifully, just on the right side of creamy and rich. It was also plated nicely for thai food. The highlight of our meal was definitely the Bangkok shaved ice. Even though the raw materials would have been dirt cheap (mainly ice, cordial and canned fruits) and the assembling would have been extremely simple, nevertheless it was refreshing after a heavy lunch.<br/><br/>However, at a personal level, the market for thai foods appear to be homogenous at least to me it is. There was no one distinguishing element of this joint to differentiate itself away from other thai places. Thus the dining experience was an average one for me.
Aditya Kamdi
I've been here thrice and I must admit I have never been disappointed with the food. The place though gets noisy at times and it becomes really difficult to have a conversation with the person you are with. The service is also relatively prompt and quick and it helps with the fact that this place too closes a bit late.
Jojo
I love that this place is open so late and the menu is incredible! Not badly priced for the location and opening hours. The problem is that you can't really hold a conversation while you are there. They do seafood very well (soft shell crab, while snapper)
MummyCino
Sensational Thai food. If I had only one criticism of this place, it's that everything is spicier than I expected it to be. Elsewhere, a Massaman curry isn't spicy...it is here. But everything was fresh, tasty and delicious!
The Hungry FoodTech [shirley.gondo]
the must try dish here is the crispy mince fish with sour and spicy salad :) The food is very well priced. It is located in the heart of thai Town in haymarket area and the staff is really attentive and helpful. Can't go wrong with this place..
Fillmytummy
The food is not the best here, it’s actually very average. We decided to try it because it was one of the only places still open after so late and also seeing the restaurant full and only with Thai people we thought it would be good. Nothing much really to say about this restaurant, the food is average tasting, but just the atmosphere is good for supper and brings t he score up more. If there was no live band there that night, the score would be lower.

This nicely decorated little restaurant is located in Capitol Square, right next door to the Capitol Theatre in bustling chinatown. The restaurant was pretty crowded and was quite full, probably because of the musical running next door.  MDS, Nicole and I decided to check it out before we went to watch The Addams Family musical. We hadn’t made a booking but were quickly seated on some cushioned orange stools on one side of the restaurant.  Service Service was not that great. The wait staff were friendly and helpful when we asked them for anything but the food was very slow out of the kitchen. We arrived there at about 6.30 and hoped to leave by 7.30 as the show was to start at 8.00pm. Unfortunately we only received our meals at around 7.15pm so we had to delay leaving for 7.45pm. Omelette squares flavoured by cha om veg and cooked in an orange flavoured  spicy and sour gravy with prawns. (The Gaong Som Cha-Om Goong ) We started with a fusion dish, where marinated minced pork wrapped hard boiled quail eggs and is served with a Chinese plum sauce.  It can be compared to the lobak of Penang Island, but its character is yet again different.  Good as a snack, this springboarded us for the mains which had a variety of sensations and flavours.  Thai cooking is mastering the interplay of sharp and aromatic ingredients, especially for the curries, salads, soups and stir fries - and yet at the same time it is also the quality of preparation as evidenced in the texture, bite and proportion of several components often found in one serving.  Thai food is best eaten in  humid and hot climate but still comes out well in the relative coolness of winter.  AtBangkok, I was recommended to ask for the larger menu in dark colours, for there is much more fun in this version and more

On a cold and wet Sunday night, three amigos decided to check out the Winter Festival. It was drizzling at first, and then it started to pour. Not the best weather to be checking out an outdoor festival. We didn't stay long, but long enough to grab some g

We had to find an appropriate place to take my visiting cousin for dinner. It had to be not too expensive, not Malay/Singaporean, BYO and um, open. On a Monday, this is surprisingly difficult. Most places that were open were either too expensive or didn't

Great service. Polite waitress and provide excellent services. Will definitely come back for more.
M3_8linkz
Terrible service and would never come back. 3 of us were coming for dinner. I ordered jungle curry. The curry was extremely hot, really different with the one that i had before. Then i said politely to the waitress,"excuse me, i think the curry is too spicy, it's really different with the one that we had before". I said that just to give opinion to the chef, didn't mean to get anything in return, but then the waitress seemed unhappy and yelled at me with her grumpy face,"can't u read it on the menu says the hottest dish in thailand?". She pointed the menu to me and then walked away. This thing happened to me before at 3 mama chefs, but the waitress was friendly said to me,"sorry about that, pls next time tell us to make it mild when u order". We used to celebrate more than 5 times bday party here and had dinner at least once every two weeks. After this, we would never come back. There are plenty of good restaurants with good food and outstanding service in sydney. I would recommend other thai restaurant such as Chat thai : good food and average service, 3 mama chefs : good food and good service, home thai : average food and outstanding service, in asia : good food and outstanding service.

Average food.. A group of 10 of us booked to celebrate two birthdays here. The food was average. However, the staff was very accommodating to our needs and patient since we were loud uni students.<br/><br/>I had a really enjoyable dinner but I probably wouldn't try it a second time.

TERRIBLE!!!. Terrible service, we were blamed attempting to use an used voucher that we bought early same day and being ignored even we showed them the confirmation e-mail. Their waiter almost asked us to leave. NEVER AGAIN!! I will do everything to spread this information to anyone that I know and also will post in every food associated website that I know.

This use to be one of my favorite Thai joints in Sydney, Friendly staff, Nice Food and Great atmosphere. <br/><br/>My opinion has completely changed, Their service staff are appalling literally Barking at my friend on her bday for walking inside a few mins before opening as she didn't see the please wait sign (There were other Thai's already seated inside and it was completely uncalled for.) After a rainy winter night hungry and looking for a good feed I had previously purchased a coupon from Group-On as it was one of the only ones that didn't have the 24hr advance booking requirement listed in their conditions. The staff ushered us rudely with grumpy looks on their faces to the worst seats despite it been only just opened and a night when there was no-one else in the restaurant besides 2 others. <br/><br/>I presented the coupon and was yelled at "Must book!!" I asked her to show me where it says that booking was required (I do book when required using Group-On coupons and specifically bought this one due to it not been required) She couldn't show me, I asked politely if I could speak to the Manager in which turn she barked "I am the manager!" then she darted off and another less aggressive girl came I asked her to speak to the manager she pointed to the cashier. I spoke to the Cashier who said that the manager wasn't in today, (Funny the other girl said she was the manager?) And I wasn't allowed to call to book (Even the restaurant was empty) and must order from the full priced menu. I asked her if I could please have the manager contact details in which she refused to give them to me, After standing my ground for a while they still refused to give me any details of supervisors or managers it was obvious they had had these type of problems before.. and looking at the previous complaints regarding rude staff and coupons it seems it will continue to happen. <br/><br/>I decided to cut my losses and leave having already ruined my poor friends bday and find another place to eat. In future ill stick to Chat Thai or Yok Yor where the food is superior, service is great! and it's worth waiting in line a bit rather than eat @ Bangkok which has the worst staff in history, declining food taste and horrible atmosphere. <br/><br/>Buyer beware. There are many better options for Thai food than here, and don't get suckered in by their coupon deals as they will not honor them,

Unorganised Staff, average food. Service is poor. They confused everyone's dishes and forgot who's table ordered what. Food is average. Their prawns and coconut juice are not fresh. Seating was too close together and therefore too noisy to hear each other talk. Overrated.<br/>Overcharged even though they mixed up orders more than once (giving us wrong plates/giving others our plates). <br/>Staff were smiling and cheerful so that was good nice.<br/>On the bright side, the price was a little cheaper than what I expected.<br/><br/>I wont be coming back because I'd rather go to a better Thai restaurant!

Great start to a great evening.. We came across this restaurant on our way to see the Lion King at the Capitol theatre. . food and service was wonderful. Will definitely return next time we're in Sydney

My fave Thai. I always take visiting relatives to this place and they haven't disappointed so far. High quality dishes.

Still a favourite. Cant go wrong with this thai place, always busy with diners, signs of a great eating place

They have a cheap lunch specials but its only about a third the size of a normal meal! It was also a little too spicy for me but I'm weak at chilli stuff.<br/><br/>The roti was ok and the satay sticks were above average, the sauce was nice, the meat was a liitle tough (I like it really soft) <br/><br/>Food came out a little slower than expected and prices seemed reasonable! Still a lot to try on the menu I will be back

Amazing Rotis. Besides their delicious savoury dishes, they also offer amazing sweet rotis. Their Milo and Pandan rotis are to die for. Worth trying thousand times.

Truly authentic tasty thai/Laos food! If your going to come here, try the more authentic and daring dishes is more worth it than your normal thai dishes sold everywhere.. This place actually has the dishes that's rare to find. I always gets the chicken feet soup, which is warm and spicy and the chicken feet is cooked for hours until it is so tender in a tangy sweet and sour base stock. satisfying. other dishes i always get is the crab fried rice and the raw salmon sashimi with garlic and chillies.. So light, simple but delicious. these are the dishes that you can't find in other thai places usually so it's a must try while your there. it is always packed so make sure you call for a reservation first or you'll have to wait in line. Just a downside is that the servers are mostly native thai girls so their English is not always so great but other than that its a place with lovely decor, dim and cosy ambience, bustling atmosphere good for drinks and catching up, yummy foods, quite affordable and opens till very late on the weekend

Some very interesting dishes (we had chicken feet soup) with lots of flavour and spice. The other dishes we had were great and much like what you would eat in Thailand.

Don't listen to anyone that says the food here isn't outstanding. Service and ambiance vary but the food is consistently great and some dishes are as similar to food you find in Thailand than any other place in Sydney. Forget newtown, Haymarket has the best Thai in Sydney and @bangkok is a prime example. Chilli basil chicken and the crispy pork with Chinese broccoli are two of the best dishes. Make sure the chilli basil chicken is Thai style (minced)

Hip young crowd. Vibes are great, always busy - for a reason! Food is tasty and top variety of flavours, well priced. Try the spicy salmon sushimi - wickedly addictive. Any main dish ive tried has been Very enjoable, sometimes surprising. Finish off with coconut dumplings. Parking late at night after 10 on street is free. Otherwise can park underneath for $15-20.

Tasty. Ate here with my partner while on a trip to Sydney as it was right besides our hotel on capitol square. Service was not the best but the food was quite authentic. We had the Tom Yum soup and the King Prawn special.<br/>The traditional desserts are also quite a pleasant change.

Food was really nice and full of flavour. Meals were under $10. Friendly staff

Great decor and good atmosphere but bad service. Food is decent.

Delicious and spicy. Most dishes we tried @ Bangkok were delicious. Staff were friendly despite a constantly full restaurant and dishes were relatively fast to arrive - whicn can be a problem when we ordered too many dishes. We loved the raw prawn salad and the crispy pork and veg stir fry. Most dishes were very nice, and spicy, but some were merely a high average, e.g. the scallop stir fry and duck curry. <br/>We would definitely return.
Love Thai Food
At Bangkok = authentic Thai food. My family and I spent a few years in Thailand. We loved everything there especially the food. <br/>Having come back to Sydney last year, I discovered At Bangkok by chance. Had gone to the Capitol Theatre and noticed the crowd heading to At Bangkok after the show. Decided to give it a go, but didn't have much hope at the first place because many Thai restaurants in the suburbs tend to 'Australianise' the taste too much.<br/>Had ordered Moo (means pork) Tok Khrok, which is like a Som Tum (papaya salad) but instead of green papaya strips they use pork, mixed with their salad sauce, northeastern style. I also ordered baked rice in pineapple (Khao Ob Sapparod), absolutely divined. The rice is baked with herbs and spices and is contained in a real pineapple fruit. Finished it off with sticky rice with Durian in coconut sauce. (I know it's not going to suit everyone's taste but for those who's been to Thailand, this dish you can't miss. <br/>The service could be slow because the restaurant is quite busy, but for me a long queue means they must be really good. Thumbs up!

Best menu? Steam baramundi, pineapple rice & banana roti.. And you are done

Tried chicken cashew nuts and Tom yum chicken fried rice and they were good. I liked the nice atmosphere too.
Urban Epicurean
Nice atmosphere... Average dishes.... It is really a pity because the place itself isn't bad at all! Staff are ok smiling, welcoming... But the food isn't that good...<br/>The first time I have been there (with a couple of friends) We've tried a few dishes, sharing and trying new stuff... And we were all disappointed...<br/>Loving Thai food and hating judging to fast I decided to give @ Bangkok another chance... By myself this time... I had the Tom Kha Gai... Well... It didn't taste like Tom Kha at all... The coconut milk was too sweet and the chicken was uncooked!!...<br/>But again.. Maybe I'll go there for a third time... Just to see if I was unlucky or just right!...

Food was decent enough but service on our Thusday evening visit (8pm-ish) was abominably slow. We waited and waited to receive the menu, then to have our order taken. Rice was last to arrive - we had to ask for it, lest we wait until our pork and beef dishes went cold. Floor staff seemed disorganised and not in control of the small space. Unlikely to return.

Average Thai. I wasn't amazed with the food here, yet was pretty satisfied with my meal - Crispy pork belly stirfry. The batons of pork were actually deep-fried (you can't fool me) before added to the wok-tossed chinese broccoli and chilli but it was still very tasty.<br/>Can't say much for the Lad Nar (Pan-fried flat rice noodles topped with chinese broccoli, gravy & pork) my partner had. On first appearance the clearly starch-thickened 'gravy' was wobbly and had a life of its own and consumed the entire plate. The pork was disintegrating into the noodles and the overall flavour was below par. More like slop from a Chinese foodhall. <br/>Service is very pleasant and you can even sing along to the Thai karaoke playing on the two flat screens.
Grumpy Diner
Unpretentious, they concentrate on good, inexpensive food at lightening speed when you consider it is all cooked fresh. No entrees was a slight dissappointment- untiil the food arrived! The backgroundusic being authentic Thai is a nice touch .
