Review Mums Table - Sydney

Ferdinand
Late lunch today, and I decided to have a rare beef, brisket and meatball pho. Filling was generous, plenty of thinly sliced beef, some delicious meatballs, and sliced brisket too. Honestly it’s not rare beef, because it’s so thinly slice and cooked quickly over serving of pho broth on the bowl. It’s still good dish though, and when you squeeze those wedges of lime, ( usually served with lemon ) broth become more alive! I disagree with price of those Vietnamese iced coffee, I’m paying $5 for ¾ full of coffee over plenty of ice cubes. Not happy!

Fantastic place for Pho in the city. Rare beef or the special Pho is arguably the best in the CBD. Fresh ingredients, very tasty broth, and nice noodles. Bowls are around 15 dollars and you pay at the counter first. Staff are nice and friendly. Opens at 10:30am for brunch too.

Simple and super tasty food, quick and kind service, decent prices - couldn't ask for more. We tried the Beef Pho as well as the Fried Chicken with soup, both were really fresh and tasty.

One of the best Vietnamese places around. Friendly service and honest and helpful advice from staff. You must try a bit of everything as the variety is extensive. All delicious of course..

The 'Mum' of the Mum's table makes this restaurant great. She makes you feel welcome. The food is so fresh and delicious. I was so pleasantly surprised and would definatly come again. Well done.

Pretty good food! I had the crispy pork rice. Too bad I was rushing for time or else I'd savour the soup slowly! I imagine their Pho would be amazing! Hope to come back to Sydney to try their Pho in the future!

My first time at Mum's Table Vietnamese Street Food. I enjoyed the phở (pronounced: 'furh', with high pitch emphasis on the vowel), however the phở is only plain beef noodles, not phở đặc biệt as listed on the menu. I was disappointed when I received the noodles because I was looking forward to eating the 'special'. The noodles was average (compared to Bankstown and Cabramatta), the spring rolls (pictured) was good. Services was quick and efficient: customer order at the serving counter, and they bring the food to your table. Nice place for a quick meal if you don't know a better Vietnamese place in the CBD (Chinatown offers better Vietnamese options), or can't make the trek out to Cabramatta (it's literally 'Little Vietnam'). If Mum's Table is afraid of putting Caucasians off the 'đặc biệt' (the special with beef tendon, tripe and beef meat balls), then they should only list it as phở, because it is misleading to customers that dine often on Vietnamese food. Overall, I did like the food, but would I go back? Probably not because I know I can get proper and better phở đặc biệt elsewhere. Would I recommend Mum's Table? Yes, for inner-city first-timers to Vietnamese food because it is not too confusing with too many choices (but I would still take you out to Cabramatta for better Vietnamese).

Easy to swallow Viet at Surry Hill prices. Workers love it by day. Night time trade is yet to build.

Absolutely delicious. If you work or live around here and haven’t been to Mums Table yet, do yourself a favour and get over there now. Best Bahn Mi in town, spring rolls to die for, Pho is next on my list! So nice to have a fab local joint near my work, makes it all worth it.

The best Vietnamese food around. Always cooked to perfection and very friendly staff :) thank you

It tastes as good as my mum's. And I'm Viet, so I should know.

Food is great but the serving size / amount of noodles you get in the pho is getting smaller

Excellent meal will definitely be back 😊

Food was great after I finally got it. Had forgotten the order

Great food and great staff!! Cannot wait to get back there! Delicious!

Most beautiful pho in Sydney, great atmosphere and if I could give it 6 stars. I would.
Jamie Hill
Seriously good pho! Always hot and tasty. Vietnamese iced coffee is also great here.

Not happy!

Loved the beef vermicelli here. Reminded me of bun bo nam bo in Hanoi. Could eat this every day!

Had a pho here when they first opened a couple years back but glad I came back because the beef vermicelli is incredible

I’d walked past Mum’s Table a few times so I decided I’d drop in for a quick meal before heading out to the airport.

The restaurant was really quiet when I walked in which wasn’t a very positive signal. Mum herself was at the counter and strongly recommended the pho, noting it came with two free spring rolls.

I wasn’t exactly enthused about the idea of the two free spring rolls as a restaurant that serves a great bowl of pho doesn’t need to offer free spring rolls but as I was always going to order the pho, I went with here recommendation and ordered the pho dac biet.

The restaurant looks great on the inside, having been furnished with some care. It took about 10-15 minutes for my bowl of pho to arrive. My first impressions were that it wasn’t a particularly generous serving. The serving of bean sprouts and Vietnamese mint was also very restrained.

I ate the spring rolls first which were pretty uninspiring. The stock of the pho was actually pretty good. The serving of meat (brisket and meatballs) in the pho were generous but it had no tripe and no tendon. How can you have a pho dac biet without those ingredients in it?!

I’ve rated the pho dac biet a 3 overall. The stock was probably pushing a 4 but a combination of the small serving, lack of variety in ingredients and a premium price of $16 pulled it down to a 2.5 to me. I’ve rounded up to a 3 overall to be kind. The spring rolls were a 1.5 but they don’t count, being free.

Mum, if you’re reading this, can I suggest you increase your serving sizes. You servings of meat are adequate but you need to increase the serving of the cheapest ingredient - the noodles! If you want to charge a premium price, you need to serve a premium bowl of pho.

ordered a stir fry. the chicken came in a bowl of soup and was obviously boiled. when i raised this issue i was told it was served that way as to keep the rice dry. well to do that the rice had to first not be over cooked. it was that far over cooked that it was a gelatonous paste almost

Soup taste blend and over-diluted.
Beef-balls taste as if been cooked many times.
Portion size is small. In my opinion, overpriced.
Clean environment, and aircond.

YO! EAT HERE FOR PHO! The best traditional Pho you can get your hands on in the city area. Tasty broth, right serving of meat, and the noodles are a decent quality. Very nice setting. Can't wait to try the other dishes

Not bad , not great. Pho is not that great but their pork rolls especially the crispy pork belly and their pork chops are quite good. Service is prompt, courteous and quantity is not that bad as well . Pho doesnt pack much flavor which was a big disappointment. I will put it in the same bracket as the Mama's Buoi
, both would fall under the same category. Never regretted my decision to eat here. Price on average 15 $ for a take-away . The Adrien Brody of the food scene .

I've been here before and really enjoyed the Vermicelli salad. Tonight I went again and ordered the stir fry chicken; it was appalling. I paid $15.00 for what was essentially a child's portion; almost no vegetables and a small portion of chicken - it would not have added up to half a chicken breast. When I questioned this with the owner, she saw no problem with the size and then offered me more rice. I was with a group and didn't want to make a fuss.
After I had finished my meal; long before the others, she returned to ask if I was still hungry; I said no because the dish was not only small but really awful; I've had better out of a packet mix at the supermarket. At no time did she offer reimbursement of any kind. I left feeling really ripped off.

Great architectural design with a Vietnamese flair to it though I personally found the elder lady quite abrupt and rude telling me what food to order, attempting to help me make up my mind when I haven't even walked up to the counter? I am not new to Vietnamese families where they can be abrupt but not unpleasant.
Ordered a Chicken paper roll which I was happy to see was a larger than usual size considering the price paid. Ingredients were fresh. Interior was kept clean.

There was a gentleman that was waiting for his takeaway though when he received his food he reminded the lady that he ordered a coffee which she completely forgot about. There were only 4 others including myself waiting. Must have been a bad day but not wanting to return as I failed to see a spark here sadly.

It must be hard opening across the road from a place like Mammas Boui and trying to compete only to fall flat

I wanted to like their food but found myself instead wanting to apologize to my taste buds and stomach space for using precious calorie intake on a poor selection of food

Oh well, mistakes happen
Preet Eats 👍🏾👎🏽🤔😄😋
Pho was nice as was the service, however it was the size of a small pho in comparison to other Vietnamese restaurants and it was $15 which I found a little steep for what you receive. Good option in the area, just value for money isn't reasonable.

Authentic Vietnamese food in a funky setting! Best of both worlds. A little more pricey than Pho Pasteur etc but worth it for the friendly service, better ingredients / meat portions and atmosphere.

Amazing and authentic Vietnamese food. I could not recommend this place high enough. Such a lovely atmosphere and 'mum' who comes and checks on everyone and there meals is wonderful.

Nice food, small portions, a little pricey, very good dine in experience, friendly staff.

Compared to 'nearish' places like pasteur vietnamese, portions are small.

highly recommend vermicelli salad + spring rolls ($2 each! I usually get two).

Pho dine in portion seems much larger than take away so would only recommend dine in.

A good Vietnamese option near Central Station, just a few hundred metres up from Devon Cafe. The place is spacious and comfortable. We had the special beef pho (rare beef, brisket and beef balls) and the roast chicken with rice. The pho broth had a clean savoury flavour without being overly sweet. Though the bowl wasn't massive, the mix of quality ingredients and delicious broth was a satisfying meal. This was one of my favourite bowls of pho in Sydney. The roast chicken also smelled great when it was delivered to our table; fortunately it didn't disappoint. The shiny crisp skin covered tender meat and we enjoyed it with the rice and sauce provided. Service was pretty friendly. We also liked the self-serve iced jasmine tea (and water). Prices are on the higher end when compared to suburbs like Bankstown but it's a premium I don't mind paying for the convenient Central/Surry Hills location and delicious food in nice surroundings.

Great new find in my work hood! Very authentic Vietnamese everything (food, look and event scent!) Also great value. This crispy skin treasure was $12 and appeared at the table during lunch rush in less than 10 minutes

All I had were the pre made Pork, egg and prawn Spring rolls but they were very good, the peanut sauce an excellent accompaniment and the size for $9 in Surry Hills top value for a good sized, quick meal.
I am very keen to return to try the rest of their menu.

Time: Saturday night for dinner. No queue. You can find your own table and look at the menu, but have to order at the counter. There is a big board near the counter with their favorites.
Atmosphere: cozy with really nice decoration. Clean. More on family restaurant with many takes for four.
Staff/service: friendly and order come fast.
Food/drinks: order vermicelli noodle salad with BBQ pork and Marinated pork chop with rice, fried egg and salad, they are good but not great.
Back again: Yes, not any time soon.

The concept of this restaurant is very authentic. The decor is amazing, they installed the ceiling with lots of Vietnamese historical bamboo hats. Food was delicious.

Ate lunch here for the first time today and was happily surprised. I order the crispy chicken noodle soup - the soup was great, although needed chilli to add extra flavour. The crispy chicken however was excellent - served with a Vietnamese sweet chilli which was perfect. I'll definitely be eating here more often!

We arrived at Mum's Table on a early Monday morning around 10am, only to find that they open at 10:30am. My partner walked in to see if we were able to be seated early (it was a very cold morning) and wait until service time, and they were very welcoming and friendly. We ordered a Pho Dac Biet and a traditional pork roll to share. The flavours of the broth was light and slightly sweet, not as flavoursome as what I would have liked, but it was pleasant and still tasty. It was the perfect meal for a cold windy morning in Sydney.
The traditional pork roll was delicious, the bread could have been crunchier but the fillings was generous. I also ordered a vietnamese iced coffee which was nicely balanced with the coffee kick and not too sweet. As we live in Brisbane and were only staying around the CBD area, Mum's table provided friendly and warm service and it was the closest pho restaurant to us, and if you are exploring Surry Hill's area and are craving pho or a pork roll, Mum's Table will certainly deliver on those cravings.
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
“Pho is a beef noodle broth,” says Mylisa Nguyen (ex-LuMi Dining) emphatically, before continuing: “there’s nothing vegetarian in Vietnamese food.”It seems Surry Hills folk have been demanding vegetarian pho without realising it’s like asking for vegetarian chicken noodle soup.Rather than “just give it to them”, Mylisa is showing steely determination to be true to her cultural identity at Mum’s Table. It pays off in a wonderfully balanced bowl of Pho Tai Nam ($14) with rare beef and sliced beef brisket

Good food, relatively quick, good prices and the staff always friendly and helpful. We go here regularly for our lunches during the day. Be sure to try the pho

Food is really yummy and better value than nearby Vietnamese. Staff are lovely and food was fresh and tasty.

Simon Food Favourites review. Tried the Rare Beef, Sliced Beef Brisket & Beef Meatballs pho ($14). High price tag but the portion size, fresh ingredients and good flavour justifies it. The sliced beef brisket was my favourite ingredients which was very tender. Beef meatballs were tasty. Nice decor and fair amount of seating and table space. Service ranged from welcoming and friendly to perhaps a little stand off ish depending on who you talk to. Interesting and extensive menu which tempts me to revisit to try more.

Mum’s Table claims to make “home-cooked style authentic Vietnamese cuisine the way Mum intended it.” What is it about food cooked by moms (or other maternal figures) that is so good? Is it because it is the food equivalent of getting a big, warm hug? Probably.
Simon Leong
Tried the Pho with Rare Beef, Sliced Beef Brisket & Beef Meatballs ($14). Quite pricey compared to other phos around town although the decent portion size, good flavour and fresh ingredients justifies the higher cost. An interesting menu tempts me to revisit.
