Review Mojo Record Bar - Sydney

Tyler Moeke
What a fun little basement bar. Blues music fills the atmosphere, red leather booths with dim intimate lighting. Definitely a place to celebrate after work drinks or a good local. Nice snazzy joint team

Great little bar. If you love music, the memorabilia and beer then youll not be disappointed. Some nights you can take your beer into the record shop! How cool is that!

Who does not love a record bar. Top craft beers, not too busy, top music and great atmosphere. I can't get enough, see you there!

Good location, awesome cocktails and friendly staff. Authenic bar feel. Definately recommendable!

Great low-key atmosphere, with booths and a great bar selection. I'd recomend the 'apple jack'; serving freshly squeezed apple juice over a shot of Jack Daniels

Nice little bar for good tunes and cheap drinks.

This was one of my stops in a trip to see Sydney's famous underground bars. But Mojo Record Bar was my favourite of them all. The music that plays matches the atmosphere of the place, the drinks are cleverly named after famous songs and bands. Very nice for a date or night out with mates. Would definitely recommend.

Nice secluded bar filled with classic old records. Interesting range of cocktails from classics and originals.

Secret hidden bar downstairs with an awesome pinball machine at the entrance. Tonight we ordered “Hip Hops” which were fantastic. Very hipster bar and a local treat.

Very cool bar, records and band posters plastered everywhere. The staff were fantastic, and checked in on us when they saw any unwanted visitors hovering over our table. Much appreciated. Drinks were yummy and reasonably priced for the CBD!

Cool underground bar, themed music style, dimmed lights and jukeboxes. Great variety of drinks, in particular cocktails. I tried a couple
of different flavours and especially liked the one they smoked which had a lovely smokey flavour to it.

@mojorecordbar has a record store out front and dive bar out back. Gotta say this place's 'record-keeping' is top notch. Heard some epic classics from the good old days of vinyl I'd forgotten about. Blitzkrieg Bop, Ramones, Marvin Gay and Tammy Terrell. Pay it a visit, hear some great tunes and have a 🍹. Ain't no mountain high enough baby 😏

This place is rad! It looks like a quiet record store shop front but as you walk in you can hear this sound of a pumping prohibition bar in the back. As you walk through to the back and enter the bar it is packed, loud, playing epic old school music and supplying a damn good cocktail list.

I love this bar. It's another one of those cool, hip but still has that low key type of vibe (despite being super packed some nights).

If you can sneak in a mid week drink just after work - do it! If you're with a friend and want a nice cocktail and friendly banter the booths are definitely ideal.

Such a great little bar 👌🏻

Have walked passed many a times and finally got to visit!

Having to wait for friends for dinner a lady can decide to have a cocktail on her own in peach and quiet.

Bar was pretty packed when I walked in around 6pm. Very much a dive bar with dark atmosphere. There is even a record shop before you get to the bar at the back.

Old records stuck on the ceilings makes for nice interior.

Ordered the jack something apple pie? I truly have forgotten the name but it basically had bourbon in it and it tasted like apple pie! No really! Very nice smooth velvety with a lovely hint of sweet at the end. This set me back about $19 which i thought was worth it.

Overall, it was a lovely first time visit all on my lonesome!

Free pork cracklings! Not sure if they manage to sell any records or they are just for decoration? Bar is small and dimly lit, very underground and very understated, unlike nearby Baxter Inn or Lobo Planation. I recently noticed they put up a sign outside. Really? underground bars are cool partially because it takes effort to find them, why ruin the fun?

Was such a great bar, so maybe this is a mean review, however our night was ruined by a hipster bartender named "Luca" who really let the place down.

Usually the staff are really friendly, and this was our favourite bar in the CBD.

Will definitely give it another shot and review again without "Luca's" hipster style of self indulgent service.

The vinyl was kinda secondary to the whole experience. And we didn't order any beer. But the guy behind the bar certainly knew his liquor, and made extraordinary cocktails, as well as being charming company

Another "not so obvious from the street" bar. Enthusiastic and friendly staff and great cocktails. If you need to eat they do hot dogs. As you would expect, great music.

This is a fun little side trip on your york st bar crawl. You walk past a record store as you descend the stairs, and then through the dark door towards the music and glass chinking into the bar! As usual with hipster bars, the staff can be hit and miss in their service/hospitality, luckily I don't really dote my experience on bar monkeys anymore. Its great to get a craft brew and sit with a mate in the dark lit ambience. Its actually a fun place to meet up and have an intimate chat!

Groovy. One of those bars where you have no way of knowing what you're walking into before you arrive, although the record shop on the left is a reasonably big clue. The booths are totally the go seating wise, the atmospherics are provided by the vinyl and music posters, the staff are on the ball and friendly. I was a little disappointed by the craft beer selection but hey, you can't have everything. All up, a fun place for an after-work drink with friends.

This is another cool bar because you don't see a combination of a Vinyl store with a bar very often. To be honest, this is my first time experiencing such a combination.

It's got a dark dungeon feel to it with Vinyl's pasted on the walls and ceilings.

It's a small place and gets cramped fairly quickly. So suggest going a little early and grabbing a table.

The selection of beverages is ok. Not extra ordinary though. I found the service a little brusque and that's one area where I believe Mojo's should definitely work and improve on.
Wolf Of York Street
One of my favourite places to go for a light drink in a fantastic environment. Friendly atmosphere and great bar staff - the playlist also takes you back to the classic hits of the past. Only downside is no food other than pizzas but appears to be in the works for the future !

Located just a few doors down from Stitch, Mojo Record Bar impresses with its well priced drinks, fun staff and great music from the heyday of vinyl – there’s always a lot of blues and rock & roll playing when I’m there.

With a relaxed, intimate, yet quirky vibe, it won’t be the last time I visit this watering hole. It’s a marvellous place to have that much needed drink after a wearisome day. It does get extremely busy on a Friday evening though. We walked in at around 5.15pm and had free reign on where to sit, but when I turned around and away from the bar about 15 minutes later, it had well and truly reached its capacity – a sign of its popularity among Sydney-siders.
Monday Barhop
This bar is one class act. That is, it’s a class act if you mean somewhere you can drink beer out of a brown paper bag and have rowdy conversations about whether classic or punk rock is better. Beware if you’re on a budget – not only is it hard once you get here to not embrace the rock n roll feel and order that third (cough sixth) beer, but you also have to meander past the record store to get there.
Best Small Bars
The atmosphere is relaxed, a little nostalgic and fun. This is a bar to enjoy, and not a showcase for the latest glitziest cocktails.
Cee Dee
The burger is everything I remember it being: charred and smoky on the outside, pink and juicy on the inside. There is just the right amount of mustard and pickle zing and the bacon adds flavour and that special sort of goodness only bacon can add. Oh and there are curly fries!
Corridor Kitchen
Mojo feels like a place where everybody should be smoking. Grab a beer, a coveted red vinyl booth, or, second prize, a bar stool and sit mesmerised by the Edison bulbs while you munch on free pork rinds. This is the bar Nick Hornby’s characters wish they were cool enough to dream up.
Neateatsydney
Vinyl and Hot Dogs. Hot dogs and Vinyl, add a dash of wine and some grand red pleather seating. It's a record shop, come bar, come snack stand, come hang out - the combination of which makes this place so great! It's a mixed pot full of surprises. Order a hot dog, you wont regret it!
Jonesiantojones
Record breaking. Groovy place and absolutely stunning. when I was there the bartender wasn't the nicest but mixed an alright drink. I would recommend.

Very cool underground bar in the centre of Sydney CBD. Great atmosphere. Well air conditioned. Great music.

Well worth checking out. Very busy on the Saturday night I spent there but a nice vibe. Quite noisy though. Probably best on a school night. Disappointing that the record shop closes far earlier than the bar - approx 5.30pm. Would imagine that sorting through vinyl with a drink in hand being a pleasant evening past time.

Top unassuming bar which makes the most of what its got. Avoid Thurs and Fridays after work if not up for competing with the suit brigade but otherwise proceed with confidence this is a bar full of character.

You Had Me At Free Pork Scratching!. Mojo Record Bar is a cosy small bar tucked away downstairs off York Street. Head down the stairs, stop in at the record store to peruse their fine range of vinyl, then make your way out the back for some good times. Mojo's has a good range of cocktails, ciders and craft beers (including a Young Henry's hand pump). The decor is old skool music/rock and roll. There's a row of cosy booths lining one side, tables down the back, and seats at the bar. They don't do food, but can order it in, but to compensate they do have free pork scratching!

For the record. Great music, great atmosphere. Had a good time drinking craft australian beers and browsing through the records in the shop at the front. Although someone needs to turn on the air con because it gets HOT.

Really cool place, crowded but relaxed- small menu to keep you satisfied. Great tunes. Not for the pretentious or hipster funks.
