First time trying Burmese food and it's excellent. The tea leaf salad is very delicious. Crispy, savoury and refreshing. We also had the lamb and potato curry and the spicy chicken curry noodle. The tamarind juice was also very good.

Incredible selection of Burmese dishes, cooked to perfection, and served with love. We tried this on a whim, and were blown away with how fresh and tasty everything was. We ordered the steamed banana leaf fish for entree, then the mango pickle curry, tea leaf salad, and meeshay noodle dish for mains. There was not a single let down in the bunch. Some people might be scared off by the fermented soy bean in the meeshay noodle, but I found it nuanced, rich, and incredibly moorish. The service was super friendly and the chef even came out and gave us her recommendations when we started asking difficult questions of the waitress! Great value as well. Highly recommended if you are in the market for some different Asian flavours. Will definitely be going back to try other dishes!

Came here tonight for an easy dinner with friends. Absolutely delicious food with fantastic service. We asked the waitress about vegetarian options and she was very knowledgeable about the whole menu, providing lots of suggestions. I ordered spring rolls with noodles which came with a delicious fish sauce. Highly recommended!

Thought I’d have to travel all the way to Granville for this place but as my friends and I were planning to visit this place we found out they moved to Surry Hills 4 weeks ago. So glad about t as it’s much easier for me to get there. Although they moved to Surry Hills the quality is still sooooo good. According to my friends who’ve been there before they noticed that some of the food isn’t as spicy as before. When I tried their platter I thought the spices were just right as if it gets any spicier I’m not sure I could take it. The food was great, be sure to try their Zakor Htamin, it’s worth it especially because you could try so many different dishes in one goal. We ordered an extra meat platter and it was great too! Look forward to coming back for more brilliant Burmese food!

Lovely friendly staff to accompany the delicious food. Very authentic dishes and all very tasty! Kitchen is willing to accommodate dietary requirements where they can as well. They also have a selection of ready to take away food in the fridge, along with some deserts and sambals as well.

Really enjoyed the tea leaf salad, the meat skewers platter and the grass jelly drink. Casual relaxed atmosphere and very friendly staff. Would definitely visit again to try more dishes.

I had never tried Burmese food before until our dinner at the Burman Kitchen the other night. For me Burmese food is like a mix of Indian & Chinese food - very tasty but without the heat.

It’s best to try The Burman Kitchen in a group so you can share the dishes and try as many dishes as possible. which is what we did. The curries were exceptional and we loved the desserts, especially the Burmese Shaved Ice (pictured).

Lastly, the service is warm and friendly and you feel like part of a Burmese family. On Saturday nights there is live music which just added to our enjoyment of the restaurant. #burmankitchen
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
You don’t get a lot of opportunities in Sydney to eat Burmese food. The Burman Kitchen opened up a couple of years back in Granville, where it was frequented by Sydney’s Burmese community, before making the jump to Surry Hills late last year. Run by sister-in-laws, Lay Lay Naing and Tin Tin Khine, the restaurant gives you a chance to get acquainted with the flavours of Myanmar without leaving Sydney. You’ll likely recognise some Northern Thai elements in the sourness, citrus, chilli and herbs; and a bit of Chinese in the Yunnan-style noodle dishes. There's also some Indian, particularly Goan, influences creeping into the curries, like the Mango Pickle Pork Curry ($24), which had vinegary sourness that...

My only regret is not coming here with enough people to order the zakor htamin, which sounded so exciting on the menu! Still had a lovely time though. My absolute favourite is the pickled tea leaf salad - so much flavour, so much texture! Staff were also very friendly! Would definitely come back again.

Surry Hills is not our usual source of B-Kyu eateries. Often the places are just too dang hip for a couple of dags like us. But when an all time favourite like The Burman Kitchen moves from west to east we rise out of our bubble to try it. The Burman Kitchen started out in Granville, where we fell in love at first bite. We turned up at the Granville location the day after it closed down and wept tears down Railway Parade. In 2018 it reopened in Surry Hills with a bold plan to spread the joy of Burmese food to the inner city crowd. Some of the prices have gone up $5 here and there, and the menu has changed a little. Missing is the ngapi yea but there's a few more newer dishes for us to try. There are still good value takeaways in the front fridge, just like the old store.

I visited their Granville outlet right before they were due to relocate to Surry Hills, and my goodness the food was mindblowing. Have been meaning to check out their new premises but have yet to find the time. Never tried Burmese food before this (apart from one attempt at Mohinga that I cooked in a special live cooking video broadcast) but I'm sold thanks to The Burman Kitchen

Nice little restaurant with super friendly staff. It was my first time having Burmese food and it was a delightful experience. The curries were a bit too salty though. Comfortable seating and nice ambience.

I’m Burmese and I quite enjoyed the food at The Burman Kitchen although it is particularly overpriced for Burmese food.
I enjoyed the authenticity which reminded me of my mums cooking at home.
The highlight for me was the tea leaf salad and the lowlight, unfortunately, was the dessert. We ordered Falooda and shaved ice dessert, both below average.

Each review that I saw of the Burman Kitchen made me even more curious to try it, but I couldn’t make it to join friends when they went to dine there in Granville and hadn’t managed to organise to get there otherwise… and then suddenly, they’ve moved into my neighbourhood of Surry Hills, taking over from a Nepalese restaurant that I never managed to try! ... read full review on my blog.
