Review Via Napoli Pizzeria - Sydney

Great pizzas here and are authentic Italian pizzas too. The 2 metre long pizzas were a big hit and loved it. Very busy restaurant so recommend booking in advance if possible. Regards @fooderarri

What an amazing experience! I've been there twice and quality is always here, along with great customer service. I couldn't recommend that place enough and after being to a few pizzeria around Sydney, Via Napoli definitely stands among my favorites. A must do if you like Italian cuisine. And for those who like to share you can even get giant 1m pizzas for your table (I'll try to do that next time, seems fun and would make a great photo too!)

One of our favourite Italian restaurants, the food was even better than last time we went. The pizza was so yummy, gnocchi delicious as always. The Spanish girl and the guy with glasses that served us were great! Pleasure as always to come here.

Their pizzas are simply the best. You can see the pizzas get cooked in the restaurant as the oven is in full display. Service was fantastic and it was very spacious.

Thankfully we made a booking as it was a busy night. Gathered here with my friends as we say goodbye to one of us moving to a different city. The food was excellent although the waiting was a bit long (they are busy so that's expected). I didn't get to take a photo of all our food but will definitely come back to try the rest of the menu.

Great pizza. Service was ok.. they forgot to pass on the order to the kitchen for our kids so they had to wait 30min for their food. Other wise great šŸ‘

Great atmosphere! People were chatting laughing and celebrating here. Great for families too! Gonocci and pizzas are delicious!

Unbelievable food, we tried pasta and the nutella dessert. The place was packed but the waiters were really nice and the food didnā€™t take long to be ready. If you like italian food, you should try this place. Iā€™ll definitely go again.

Cool atmosphere, good customer service and an amazing food, at least the gnocchi 4 cheese e/ truffle I get was delicious! Want to come back for pizza!

A great place for authentic Italian food. The pizzas were wonderful and the service was fast, despite it being a really busy Saturday.

šŸ„©Polpette ($28) Veal & pork meatballs, napoli ragu, pecorino cheese & pane di casa
šŸ•4Salumi ($24) Fior di latte, tomato, ham, sausage, mild salami & hot salami
šŸ•Pizza Elena ($24) Fior di latte, burrata, tomato, eggplant, parmesan, pepper & basil

We definitely ordered more than we needed to (for two people) but we wanted variety. Don't worry, we took the leftover pizza home and it was still delicious the next day!

The meatballs were full of flavour, great dipping the bread in the sauce. Whenever we get pizzas, we try to have a balance between heavy and light. I picked the Elena because I love burrata, it tasted so good with the other ingredients and added a creamy texture. The 4Salami was so filling and the spicy salami really stood out. Also, the dough was impeccable, so soft and chewy.

Bf review: the flavour (of the 4Salumi) was intense and amazing

šŸ‘‹Follow my foodie adventures on Instagram @hungriestsam

Happy that the gentleman I was with let me choose his pizza, so I ordered my 2 favourite pizzas to share, the one with fior di latte and prosciutto and calzone with ricotta and ham. Even if Napoli style pizza with the big crust is not my favourite, they were both really delicious and the ingredients fresh. Waiters were polite, when I came here few years ago I remember the service was not that good.
I like they can move the windows making an open space in summer, but itā€™s always too crowded.

Pizza was amazing!! But we ordered two small pizza and two glass of sangrĆa which is today's special. And costs $200!!!OMG! Who is going to expect such a expensive sangrĆa!? There was no price on the menu. Everybody needs to be careful!!

Great place to eat out. Fantastic food and an authentic vibe. Was let down by the sheer noise in the venue. It was hard to hold a conversation. Tables were packed very close by each other.

Unfortunately the waiter served us the wrong dishes and corrected the mistake only after we had started eating with no apology.

Overall a good venue. Worth a check out.

Via Napoli definitely lived up to expectations!

A friend (who used to live in Sydney) and I were in visiting from Melbourne over the weekend and she recommended we go to Via Napoli for dinner on Saturday evening.
We had the Mozzarella Impanata for entree, and a mixed leaf salad & a 50cm pizza (half Quattro Salumi/half Capricciosa) for main. The deep fried mozzarella was so good and the sauce that came with it was great.
The mixed leaf salad was simple but a good offset to the stronger flavours from the entree and pizza.
The pizza was amazing - the base was thin, the crust was fluffy, and the toppings were great. I loved the sausage on the Quattro Salumi. Capricciosa is one of my favourite pizza flavours ever and this one was awesome.
For dessert we had warm chocolate cake with ice cream - this too was delicious. The cake was beautiful and I loved the oozy centre. We also had a couple of espresso martiniā€™s each - some of the best Iā€™ve ever had. The Pasqua rose was also really good.

I highly recommend Via Napoli to anyone visiting Sydney.

Great vibe on Crown St, good lighting and really friendly staff. Very fun atmosphere.

3 x of the specials I was interested in were not available and the dish I was recommended to get was off the menu, which was very exciting.

That dish was probably the saltiest dish I have ever been served at a venue. Scallops wrapped in prosciutto with Gorgonzola sauce. Sound epic, right?

The sauce was great, but the scallops were rubbery and over cooked, the prosciutto was so beyond crispy and hard to chew, it was like the chef may of forgotten about them and overall the dish made me so thirsty I left 3 of them in the serving dish.l and skulled 2 glasses of water

The lasagne was quite nice and I liked the Gorgonzola sauce so much they were kind to get me another little side of it.

2 dishes and 4 glasses of wine = $90

Iā€™m thinking I need to try this again and get a pizza which is what they are known for and what I was recommended by other foodies.

Hard to give this 2 but itā€™s for the staff and lasagne only.

Went to Via Napoli for an anniversary date and I couldnā€™t fault a single thing. Considering how full the restaurant was and the lengths of the lines outside for walk ins and bookings I couldnā€™t fault the service of the team. The workers were regularly checking on us to make sure we were enjoying ourselves which is appreciated. This wasnā€™t my first time dining at Via Napoli, I was here 2 years ago and the food has gotten better, if anything. The 50cm pizzas is the perfect size for 2 with an appetite! The food came out not long after ordering and everything was fresh and amazing - Via Napoli is the perfect Italian restaurant chain for an authentic tasting meal.
Irene
Foodwise, Napoli is very tasty. However, our order seemed to have been forgotten and three tables that entered the restaurant after us got all their food before us.

Overall, food took 1hr30mins to come out when we ordered only one pasta and one pizza dish.

Pasta came out in 10minutes but pizza never came after an hour. We had to inquire about the pizza to find out it was forgotten.

Food is very tasty.

Iā€™m so curious. What happened to my missing slice....?!

This is the first time Iā€™ve ordered a pizza from any restaurant and it has arrived with a slice cut out and consumed, I guess? Or thrown out?

I always enjoy the pizza here. Thin base and just the right amount of topping. Great atmosphere and very much reminds me of being back in Italy as they waiting staff are all Italian! #pizzatime #pizzaparty #pizzalover

Iā€™ve been to this lovely place a few times with family and friends and it never disappoints. They have great food, great service and a nice ambiance in there although sometimes it can be very loud so keep that in mind.
I recommend this place for nice homey Italian food.

Get the Truffle pizza! This place compares to the pizza places Iā€™ve been to in Italy :) i never like eating the crust but this place has a good one.
good service even if they can get very busy. Looking forward to trying more!

We had a 30 ppl+ birthday group dinner there. We had the set menu and im really impressed by their accomodating service. We had a few people running late and they were patient to serve all of them. I love the energy they gave out when they presented each platter. Food was great of course. Even until the end we were past our time limit, they still let us stay a bit longer for the cake cutting! Thank you so much Via Napoli! You made our night!

I love the pizzas here. Yes, they are among the best in Sydney and as we found out when we went to Napoli later on, actually authentic. Of course, it's also pretty cool to be able to order half a metre and metre long pizzas. And even better that you can choose different toppings for different sections of your pizza. But it is hard work eating here. We were a group and made a booking but we still had to wait for a while when we arrived which was a bit confusing. The place was packed to the brim and our table was very cramped. Service is great though and I love being able to watch them make the pizzas. Prices are not too bad. I would love to go again but I don't know if I can be bothered to wait.

Decided to check this place out for my bday dinner seeing as itā€™s always so busy. I was absolutely baffled as to why people go here. The service was okay although they forgot a few things, but were very friendly. The food was terrible. Iā€™ve been to Naples, honestly they should be ashamed. So so bland and soggy. Even the olives in the salad had zero flavour, I donā€™t think Iā€™ve ever eaten an olive without flavour! Will definitely never go back, again, unless our experience was a one off Iā€™m really confused as to why people go here. Maybe itā€™s just the gimmick of the 3 metre pizza type offering?
Phfat
This is my ideal pizza base - puffy edges you can tear off and a thin base. The toppings are also sooo tasty. We ordered the Burratina and Capricciosa. The Burratina was my favourite because it came with a giant ball of Burrata in the middle and I love cheese. Both fantastic though
@KeraBearEats
Came here on a Sunday evening at around 8pm, Motherā€™s Day.

Been wanting to come here for a while to see what the fuss is about.

Loving the Italian bistro style decor. The restaurant is very bright, vibrant and full of life. The staff are friendly and super energetic.

You can get 1 metre long pizzas to share, or even a 5 metre long on selected pizzas. This is a place to bring your whole family or a group function.

The pizza was lovely, truly authentically Italian. My entree was even tastier - I cannot remember what it was called but I had eggplant, mozzerella, tomatoes and Parmesan cheese. I could have had that dish as seconds!!

Didnā€™t get any drinks that night but would love to come back to try their wine list.

Instagram factor: maybe during the day with a super long pizza.

I would describe this restaurant as chaotic. We made a booking for 2 for 8pm on a Friday night and got seated at 8:15, it seemed that other people who did not make a booking got seated before us (there was like 2 different queues divided up). I guess they would have been waiting a while.. However, once we got into the restaurant the service was fast and friendly and the food was excellent so no complaints there!!
Lily
Super crowded pizzeria whenever I pass by Crown St. We went by earlier one day and luckily could get a table for 4. We were greeted by very lovely and friendly service right at the door till we pay our bill at the end. They offer a variety of pizza and pasta options, very generous portion and pretty value for money too! Our meal was very enjoyable and I wouldnā€™t mind coming back for some comfort Italian food.

Booked dinner for a Friday night. This restaurant is really busy & staff are always on the go. Great ambience, energetic & lively, though can get really loud. Staff were friendly & always checking if you wanted more drinks.
We ordered a mix of antipastos for the table, the aranchini & proscuitto were delicious. We also had a 50cm half & half pizza, one half was the wrong order. The staff quickly fixed this up for us & gave us another whole pizza free of charge. Pizza tasted yum, fresh & the tomato base is what you should get at every Italian restaurant.

Via Napoli Pizzeria is lovely traditional italian restaurant in Sydneyā€™s Surry Hills. The service was quick, and the staff are always making sure you are having a good time - do you have enough water, do you want another drink, how is everything. The menu has so many delicious choices and everything is so reasonably priced! The servings are huge! We didnā€™t have such a great experience with the taste of the food though, everything was hot and fresh, but we just didnā€™t enjoy the flavours of the pizza as much as we expected too. The seafood pizza was extremely garlicky all we could taste was garlic. I understand itā€™s traditional but it just wasnā€™t for us.

TIP: Do come here for generous servings and traditional Italian pizza!

Went in with a lot of expectations, however the pizza disappointed. We ordered the Margerita - the base was extremely thin and chewy and the crust was hard, doughy and chewy.
We also had the zucchini flowers which were nice and crispy on the outside and just as smooth and soft on the inside with a creamy filling of cheese.

Using the cutlery was quite a task and ensured a rigorous workout for the arms.

The restaurant was packed for a Wednesday evening, however the service was excellent.
The seating could have been a little better, the tables were too close for comfort with bare minimum space in between and didn't allow much privacy.
We wandered upon Via Napoli in Surry Hills after we arrived to our initially planned restaurant, only to find it closed an hour early for cleaning. Oh well!

We were greeted by the owner at the door and were treated as old friends, with jokes and hands shook. It was around 9:30pm when we arrived and the joint was bustling with people, which we took as a good sign.

We were seated promptly and found the servers to be very attentive, as they came around often to check how everything was and to see if we needed anything.

We got the Storte ve Dritte Vene 13 inch pizza between two. It was very tasty and had the traditional wood fire pizza flavour. Lots of cheesy goodness, hot salami, and crunchy crust stuffed with ham and cheese. Very good and filling.

We started with the calamari with aioli and lemon. Taste was nice and not too much crumbed coating either.

For desert, shared a pannacotta and a chocolate mousse. The mousse was topped with whipped cream, and was extremely rich and smooth. The pannacotta was topped with mixed berries and a berry sauce. It had a nice creamy taste without being too sweet. My partner (who lacks a sweet tooth) preferred it to the mousse, but I say give me a good, rich chocolate mousse any day!

Overall, an excellent meal, prompt and friendly service, and not terribly dear when sharing between two. Were I a local, I'd probably come back once or twice.

Great atmosphere and friendly service - efficient and fast. Good place for large groups. Check out the impressive metre long pizza, antipasto, pasta and wine selection. Three venues to choose from.

Amazing authentic Pizzas! Came here last night with a group of 9. Had the $50 set menu which included the antipasto platter & 2 x 1m pizzas with 6 toppings.

Service was quite good given it was 7pm on a Friday night & the place was busy as.

Would definitely recommend trying it out.

I used to work in an Italian restaurant making pizzas so my expectations were quite high after hearing about Via Napoli. I researched them and I thought I would take my wife there for her birthday over a year ago. We booked a table for two at 8 o'clock on a Saturday night. Turns out bookings don't mean a thing. We were waiting for over an hour while group after group got ushered to tables while we waited. After I losing it at the very rude staff at the front door they finally led us to a table and placed a bottle of red wine on the table. To me this seemed like a gesture of goodwill that we had a long wait. Anyway the pizza was OK in the end nothing too spectacular. We had dinner and then went to pay and then they told us we had to pay $50 for the bottle of wine! I argued with them about not paying for the wine after such a crappy experience but my wife said to just pay it as we had already had a very disappointing night out. 6 months later I was riding in a cab and talking to the cabbie about disappointing dining experiences. He then told us he did uber eats and there was one place that always made his life hell. Rude staff, long waits etc. Surprise surprise it was Via Napoli. I will never be dining at any of their restaurants or recommending them to anyone ever again. As a matter of fact I go out of my way to tell people how bad they are and how it's not worth going there.

Food was ok. I think the disappointment for me was that the quality of the food seems to be decreasing. I don't get how a buffalo pizza WITH BASIL has one tiny leaf of basil on the whole pizza. Essentially it was a cheese pizza šŸ˜
My partner refuses to go back to dine here. I think he feels disappointed every time we eat here. I just think that a restaurant should improve with time but it seems like the food just gets sloppier with time. This is inclusive of the service. Wouldn't recommend given the amount of options available around Sydney.

I've been a happy customer of the Via Napoli restaurant at Lane Cove so had similar expectations for the Surry Hills location. However, the service was shocking. First of all, we had made a booking the week before yet still had to wait over 20 mins to be seated in a very disorganised fashion (there was no order to who got seated first, just whoever pushed in front). We could barely even get to our table because of all the wait staff pushing past and then one of my friends was asked to move to the opposite side of our table (where there was no chair) because it'd be 'easier' for them? We were asked if we'd like any drinks, and before i could finish ordering the waiter, who was looking somewhere else the entire time, rushed away so we had to wait for someone else to come and check on us. Finally, our plates and cutlery were taken away whilst we were still eating... Everything felt very much as if we were in the way and needed to be rushed out the door. Despite the food being fantastic and not taking long to arrive, the experience was ruined by the flustered and rude staff.

Excellent food, good service, atmosphere and price. We had a group of six on a busy Friday night, and whilst we booked at 7pm, some arrived 15mins early, others 25mins late, and the staff were fine with that. We had the big sharing boards of antipasti and pizza. It was all great. Only downside is it is loud - it was busy, there were a lot of high spirited young people, and the decor is all hard surfaces.

This place is amazing. Service is great, everyone is super friendly and welcoming. Pizza is AMAZING. Overall great experience! Will be back!

A Sydney institution famous for their metre-long pizzas, Via Napoli's claims as Sydney's best pizzeria may be a little too far fetched. Their second outlet at Surry Hills is spacious, bright and boisterous, with crowds often congregating for a feast during Friday and Saturday nights.

My Napoletana pizza with mozzarella and anchovies resembled and tasted more like a sourdough than a pizza and I spent more time chewing the stretchy and tough pizza than I preferred. The ingredients were way too salty and the tomato sauce base was not punchy and intense enough to complement the anchovies. If you wish to try the expensive pizza at Via Napoli, I would suggest that it might be better for you to stay at home and call for a Domino or simply make them yourself. Any amateur can do better.

Yum! Best pizza in town. Try this place any chance you get! But don't go to late or you won't get a table. You also have to try the desserts. The canoli are fresh and hand made!

Driving down Crown Street you canā€™t help but notice the filled to the brim Italian Pizzaria called Via Napoli. First starting in the North of Sydney has now moved into the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, they have 3 locations across town.Ā To ensure you can get a table make sure you book well in advance as this place does book out.

The food is delicious and very reasonably priced. For aĀ 1 metre pizza you can ask for three different flavours ranging from $42 - $60 depending on what you order and that is more than enough food for 2-3 people. The quality of the food, the pizzas and antipasto platters in particular,Ā is amazing. the only reason this revirew is not a 4.5 star is due to the service.

Although people like there food to be quick, they don't like to feel rushed. We understand the restaurant is busy but in saying that, upon sitting down, we were bombarded with waiters asking do you know what you want,Ā we'll be right back, literally in 1min, pressuring you again. The service isĀ very rushed, because there is a 2 hour seating window it is very quick quick quick and can be quite off putting to some, even though, 2hours is a long time.Ā However they are very friendly offering hugs and compliments to all customers as if they are welcoming you into their home and quickly trying to get you out at the same time.

The folded pizza with ricotta was super nice. Loved it! While desserts were very averageļ¼Œdidnt worth the cost. The service was average, but the atmosphere looked good.

Personally, I thought the pizzas at Via Napoli Surry Hills paled in comparison to the terrific pizzas I enjoyed at the Lane Cove branch. The flavoursome, floppy and chewy crust has always been a Via Napoli hallmark but sadly, Surry Hills delivered a bland crust that wasn't worth finishing. We went for the half and half - prosciutto & bocconcinni and Margherita. I preferred the former as the salty prosciutto complemented the mildness of the cheese and crust. The simple Margherita was unmemorable. Service was very effusive and efficient. The folks here run a tight ship, constantly issuing instructions and orders into their wireless headsets. Great spot for groups as the restaurant is spacious and the menu is designed for sharing. Definitely book as it gets packed out quickly.
Tim G Pottinger
Awful. Overpriced and underwhelming $45 for a large pizza, of which, 50ā„… was crust, and it was cold.
Doughboy has nothing to worry about!
Arrogant and smug staff don't help.
Anna Murzina
Very noisy, no aircon, no service, they always push to sell you something, and want you to leave if you don't buy it.
Ā
We had a friend's birthday dinner at this awful place. So we arrived there 10 minutes later than a booking time (Saturday 8pm), we have been met by an owner/manager of the place, who said that we should wait until he prepares the table... So we stood there as idiots with balloons and flowers in the middle if the restaurant while we were waiting for a table (which has been booked by a birthday girl for her special occasion a while ago).

Ten minutes later, other guest popped in and we settled at the table. When the birthday girl started ordering (we decided to start with antipasti and some pizzas) the owner shouted to her, that she was ordering to little and he's paying huge rent for this place, it's not profitable for him to have us at his place and we have to leave!!!!!!!!! Can you imagine the face of the birthday girl? She was shocked! Just speechless! She asked for another waiter as this guy (the owner I suppose or the manager) was disgusting! When another waiter appeared the problem seemed to be solved.Ā

Also, there was no air conditioning, I was sliding from my chair as it was ridiculously hot inside. There is very tiny room between tables so sometimes you bumping other's people chairs when moving. The waiters are under very high pressure, the service is very slow and awful. They shouting very loudly to each other and you have to wait if someone notices you if you need something, I was waving my hand for 10 minutes! I had the very salty pasta which I couldn't eat at all. The white wine was very hot, when we asked for ice for the bucket, we never get it.Ā

I don't want to continue as the whole experience was outrageous! Never ever choose this place for a special occasion, the owner will ruin your party.
Anna Vinogradova
It's sad to admit that the service in this restaurant is the WORST I've ever experienced! If you want to hear from the manager that you are not ordering enough and that it's a business and we must order more otherwise they are not interested in us as clients, then choose this horrible place. By the way, we were 11 people celebrating birthday and all of us ordered starters and mains! And at the end of the evening the manager didn't even apologize in front of the birthday girl for his rudeness! He thinks it's ok to behave this way with the clients. I would never recommend anyone to dine in this place!
Daniele
I love this place, 50aud p/p u can eat a big Italian antipasto to share, plus half meter of pizza,it's a lot for 2 people, 50aud p/p is a good price, the food is very delicious, traditional Italian food by Naples, and the staff is so friendly sometimes also funny, everything is amazing!! I Love this place!!
Coffeebrunchanddinner
I am very conflicted about this restaurant, the food was good but the service terrible. We had booked for 30 people for a surprise birthday party for 8pm. Earlier in the week it was checked that we could be seated at 7:45pm, however, the table was not ready until after 8pm. Additionally, it was said that corkage was $8 a bottle, however, we arrived this had increased to $10 per bottle.

We were doing a set package of $50 per person which included a 2m board of entrees followed by pizzas. We had also confirmed on the phone that we would like people to order and pay for drinks at the bar. However when we arrived the staff were very resistant and wanted everything to be charged back to the table which is problematic with a group of that size. It was only after a checking with multiple people and having many conversations, that they went with what was originally planned. During the night the staff kept offering 'mojitos for everyone' which made us think they were included however we declined and had to clarify more than once that we did not want any drinks to be charged to the table. The restaurant was packed and the staff were unorganized and seemed flustered, we had to keep walking up to the bar all night to receive water for the table.

The banquet menu, started with entrees including aranchini balls, calamari, fried cheese, zucchini flowers, meat, cheese and mussels. The mussels were the stand out in a delicious tomato sauce. This was followed by meter long boards of differing pizzas which were traditional yet not overloaded with toppings.

When we went to pay they would only accept one bill and despite only feeding 26 people they insisted on charging for the full 30, when it was obvious that this was not the number and ended up costing everyone extra. This was extremely disappointing as we did not receive any extra food for the people who could not attended as it was banquet style dining and no tables were turned away. Again, this was a hard review as the food was good but service and management of the evening was not what was promised nor expected when catering for groups.
Being myself Italian, I do appreciate a nice place of spaghetti alla carbonara which I've enjoyed eating. However, what I really didn't like was the staff greeting you very loudly and kissing you (from the waiter to the manager)...a bit too much for me. Also too noisy. Location and eminence are great though.
Matias Campino
This. Is. Pizza.

This is perfection. If you're wondering why this place has such a comparatively low (3.2) rating, you should look at all the reviews and see that all the 1.0 ratings are from the same bunch of semi-illiterate morons who ate together and didn't like the service but fail to critique the food. Notice how many reviews they've done? Notice how they didn't order their own food? Notice how they were not all on time?

Anyway, this place is always packed and there is sometimes a line to get in. Calm down and wait. It is worth it.

The pizza here will make you burst into your best/worst Italian impressions. I went with a vaguely racist Tony Soprano "Oh, Ma Don'! You belie' dis guy?" after every bite. Feel free to do a Goodfellas or Godfather one yourself.

The base is thin and crusty like a supermodel in the morning. You can actually taste the quality of the dough. Once you have this base, you will develop hipster-levels of scorn for people who order Dominos and dare to call it pizza.

And the toppings are minimal but beautifully weighted and chosen. Almost all of the pizzas are just combinations of cheese and a cured meat, but they are all so good.

I had the prosciutto and rocket, and swapped slices with some friends. I don't even know what they ordered, but I'm pretty sure it was the culinary equivalent of an orgasm. With cheese.

But please don't eat here. I don't want the line to be any longer than it usually is.

Came here with a group of 9 people, was very surprised by how busy the restaurant was, though of course we had a booking. Even though it was an incredibly busy Friday night, and we had a booking for 8, they were very willing to accommodate the extra person without the slightest hesitation. Absolutely top notch service šŸ‘Œ.

We ordered a 2 meter pizza as well as a 1 meter pizza afterward and were incredibly surprising at how quickly both pizzas came out. I have never been to a restaurant where the pizza came out so quickly after ordering, especially considering its a 2 meters pizza, 5 different varieties in one and how busy the restaurant was. The chefs are šŸ• machines!

Every slice of those pizzas were amazing. Some of the best Napoli style pizza I've had. The staff were incredibly friendly and even gave complimentary rounds of Limoncello, twice! And there was 9 of us!

Recommend, and would eat again, with a reservation of course. šŸ‘Œ

V I A ā˜† N A P O L I
Found the service quite abrupt at times e.g feeling rushed to place our food and drink orders.
However, the food it very good indeed. You canā€™t go wrong with their famous pizzas. Good place to take large groups of friends. āœŒ@foodiesguidetosydney

Worst Italian ever!!!!!

Waiters are bullies and clueless! we arrived with a booking but could not get our table because 2 people of our 10 was missing. so we had to wait 20 minutes and watch as our table was given away twice! UNACCEPTABLE.

When we sat down to order the waiter did not give us menus!!! instead the insisted to order for us and when we said NO he walked away and ignored us! I believe because our table consisted of many asian people, he dismissed us as international tourists with huge wallets. And because of his casual RACISM, our bill was way way too much! we ended up paying 85$ per person! we had way too much food and ended up taking 3 pizza boxes home.

I was reccomended this place bye two seperate people and it was incredibly disappointing because they spoke very highly of this place.

All 10 of us were so angry and disappointed and poorer after this unhappy experience.

We do not reccomend this resturant to ANYONE. If you like via napoli, then try the lane cove one, it is much better.

I came here with my parents about a month ago and we had such an incredible time! All the staff were really knowledgable and recommended great wines to go with the food we ordered. They were so friendly, passionate and full of fun that the atmosphere was absolutely unbeatable! The pizza is outstanding and the portions are huge! We got the bruschetta which is out of this world. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves good food and a lively atmosphere.

Very friendly service. One MAJOR FLAW was they told us that they would give us more food since each entree that we ordered had roughly 4 pieces/dish,but there were 9 of us. They didn't inform us that we would be charged for them! They should of asked us if it was ok before just casually bringing out food and charging us for it. Another thing that bugged me was the staff kept on taking our plates from us and it felt like we were subtly being asked to leave quickly.

On the other hand, good was good but for me personally the pizza (we ordered the 1m pizza) didn't have that 'wow!' Factor to it. The base texture was quite similar to turkish bread. We ordered a few entrees (see pics). I really enjoyed the potato chips and the zucchini flowers. They were really unique and would definitely recommend to try !

I really want to warn you if you decide to come here. Be aware and dont let the waiter order for you! Stick with what you want to order.

We went here for dinner last night with a group of 9 of us. The experience was extremely horrible and disappointed. We was cheated and set up. They didn't let us order instead they kept on saying "we're taking care of you" and took the menu back leaving us all confused dont know what was going on.

Food came out with a huge 2m antipasto entree which WE DIDNT ORDER!!! We was concerned about the bill so we came over to ask but all the waiters and waitresses kept ignoring us. We was there to enjoy the food so we decided just go with it so we started eating. After the entree they brought out another 2m platter of pizzas which were way soggy and undercooked. More than that, a whole night they kept pushing us to order more drink.

So we came over for our bill, it came out that we ordered $50 pp banquet. So the total bill end up nearly $600 for us. We told them that we didn't know about and we didnt intend to order the banquet, the guy just answered he didn't know either.. What!!!?

I feel we was being totally ripped off. Never come back here again!

The service here is simply unbelievable! And in the worst kind of way!

The guys serving rush you to the point where it feels uncomfortable, they ask you what you want as soon as you sit down. I was asked three times within two minutes what I wanted to eat while I was still clearly looking at the menu.

Most recently we went as a large group of 15 people, the guy shouted "mojito's for everyone?", it being a set menu most people assumed it was part of the package however I'd read reviews that the staff add things onto your bill making you think it's part of the package therefore I clarified if they would be part of the package or if we would have to pay and the guy said it wasn't included!

The staff must seriously be on commission based on how much Peroni they sell, they are always asking if you want another one despite there not being any plates or cutlery on the table when our food has arrived. They ignore the basics to get the most amount of money out of you as possible.

One of the staff told us a round was on him because he forgot but when we questioned the bill at the end he point blank denied saying it even though at least 4 people heard him say it. Two of our guests asked for a bottle of white wine and they gave them the most expensive without even asking which one they wanted. As you can imagine the staff went from being lovely friendly guys to quite angry and aggressive, it's shocking how quickly their personalities changed.

These guys are total Cowboys and the environment in the restaurant makes me feel uncomfortable. Food is decent but the service is so full on I wouldn't go back!

This place has some of the best pizza in Sydney. The service is friendly and fun and the pizza is delicious, fresh and served fast. Only disappointment is that it's not BYO.

Went with mates for a post-uni dinner.

Ordered the Calamari and Prosciutto with Burrata Cheese for Entree.
Both were absolutely delicious. Prosciutto had a delayed punchy taste which was complemented beautifully by the soft and milky cheese. Calamari was fresh, although greater quantity would have been good.

Ordered a 1m pizza for the Main, with Mixed Seafood ($15 extra), Siciliana and Quattro toppings.
Mixed Seafood was excellent, with Mussels, fresh Prawns, calamari. Quattro topping was perfect, with one of the meats being very spicy. Siciliana topping was a bit disappointing however. Crust was probably one of the best in Sydney, but still did not taste as good as the crust in Italy.

Also had the Chinotto drink.

Altogether, wonderful meal and was really impressed with the quality of the food, and the value (came down to $29 after splitting the costs). Service was good as well. Great atmosphere too.

Dining here was a huge disappointment. We were with a big group and the food wasn't too bad, however our experience was bad. Waiters continually ordering beers without having brought out the previous orders. Serving us wine we were told was one price then claiming we asked for wine double the price on the bill. Arguing with us saying it's 'not our fault you all can't speak Italian'. In terms of value for money for the $50 banquet, it was not worth it. Some cheese and antipasto and two pieces of pizza was all the food equated too. Waiters were sleazy and rude. We all had high hope, and sadly were disappointed.

So this placed was packed on a Saturday night. No spare seat to be seen with groups waiting in the cold for a table. Luckily we made reservations. They have quite an extensive pizza menu. But we had a big group and they asked us if we wanted to pay $50 pp for a mixed 2m board of starters and 2m pizzas with six toppings of our choice. So we went with that so we can try a bit of everything.

Starters came out quite fast. It consisted of like 6-8 different starters from the menu. To be honest, it was good to try a bit of everything but everything was so bland. Nothing was yum.

Then the pizzas came out shortly. And those were not great either. The toppings were just boring. Some were ok but nothing was great.

The service was good though. They will take care of u. But for an Italian place they should up their game in the quality of food not just quantity. I guess go for the fun of it. But don't expect too much from the food.

I hated this place. Complete rip off - almost criminal. The staff were awful, rude, pushy, sleazy and dishonest. Food was average. Ordered a bottle of wine, were served the more expensive bottle without being told, didn't realize until we saw the bill. Will never come back and would never recommend this place. Luigi was so dishonest and sleazy and I was so disappointed.

Booked for 8pm on Saturday night. Several groups were waiting outside while one guy was running around getting people in and out. Got a table after a 15 min wait.

We got the set menu at $50 pp with an entree platter and 1 metre pizza. Entree platter was huge with a good variety: seafood, cheeses, prosciutto and bruschetta.

Pizza consisted of three different flavours that we chose - loved the thin crispy crust but some pieces got quite soggy.

Atmosphere is hectic and very loud. Staff are friendly and also quite loud, presenting their huge pizzas with great enthusiasm.

Food comes out super quick which was great but I definitely got the vibe that they were trying to get people in and out as quick as possible.

Overall, food was tasty and I came with friends so I enjoyed myself and didn't mind the loudness too much. But I wouldn't rush back.

Ok, I am not born with a passion for Napoli style pizza, I have to say that I become quite a lover here in Sydney and Via Napoli make me appreciated this kind of pizza even more. The burrata with prosciutto, omg, is sensationally good, soft and creamy, yum! This place is little bit too much busy and noisy for me to say that absolutely I can't wait to go back but was a good experience and if it happen for you to be close, absolutely deserve to be tried.

I really enjoyed myself on the 2 occasions I've visited. Granted not the best Italian out there but still very good and what they lack in the food department we assure you they make up for in atmosphere and service and set up.

Yes at times they look frazzled and run off their feet but they still get the job done and that's all that matters
Princess Greedy Guts
Bring your entourage & get your pizza on! The 1 meter pizza allows you to choose 4 flavours & you might have doubts that its a gimmick and wont taste goos but that is far from the truth here. The pizza is authentic Neapolitan style with amazing toppings just as you would find in Italy. One of the best pizzas in Sydney in fact. The scarmoza (smoked cheese) is also delicious as an appetiser as is the pannacotta with its textbook wobble.

Walked past an old cafe on Crown street one evening and noticed it unusually busy until we looked up and realised it was taken over by Via Napoli. Initially, we were not thinking about Italian until a platter caught our eye where pieces of transparently thin prosciutto lined the wooden paddle; a perfectly round glistening ball of buffalo mozzarella lay sitting on top, with a few scampis keeping them company. This was enough to draw us in. We didn't book but was immediately made to feel welcomed by the very hospitable manager.

The first thing I need to talk about is the service. Probably the best service from an Italian restaurant of its class ever experienced. The placed was packed on a Friday night and the staff were immediately friendly, energetic and enthusiastic. You won't find waiters who pretend to ignore you here when its so busy. In fact they are alert and can anticipate that you wanted their attention just by lifting your head. I couldn't speak highly enough of every single staff member here.

We didn't see the platter on the menu so asked the waiter who keenly recommended that he could put a platter together with a bit of everything. Although the presentation of the various platters that came out is very appealing, a word of warning to potential diners must be given here. The waiter listed a few items that we could want on the platter and we decided it was a good idea.Ā

The platter itself came with grilled prawns, scampi, prosciutto sitting on a bed of rocket. It was nicely presented and everything was cooked perfectly and fresh. The prosciutto was good quality and there were two massive balls of buffalo cheese (too much for 2 people). Potential diners must know that the items put together does not mean that the platter option would be cheaper although seemingly insinuated. I suspected this and estimated the price would be $80-$100 knowing how much each item was worth on the menu. The conformation came with the bill when the platter was not charged as one item but in fact separate entree items. Now I am not unrealistic when it comes to paying but very much doubt that we would have paid $100 on an entree platter to start our meal. So be warned and ask the waiter how much it would come to before ordering it. By the looks of it, every second table had the platter because it looked so good but doubt any of them asked about the price.

The diavola pizza had hot salami, basil and olives. The base was soggy in classic via napoli fashion but the crust itself was excellent being chewy but not overly chewy and nicely burnt. There was't enough basil and hardly any olives but the hot salami was very spicy which I was very very happy to finally experience from a pizza restaurant.Ā

The ambience is electric with waiters who operate at a very fast pace, sometimes running. Metre long to several metre long pizzas or entree platters are brought out with fanfare in true Italian fashion. This can cause unease amongst some patrons but you know their intentions are good as they treat each and every table with the brisk attentiveness and hospitality which is great to see. The restaurant can get very noisy too but you could carry a conversation no problem.Ā

Overall, 10/10 for service followed closely by the food but be warned about the price of the platter as it could be an unpleasant surprise for the unwary.

Pretty good pizza with fantastic chew in the base/crust and tasty toppings. Nice starters and salads too. Friendly service and good ambiance.

Awesome night!!! Food and service were fantastic!!! (Best tiramisu I've ever tried.) I can't recommend this place highly enough. A++++++++
Joanne Carroll
Why sheer volume of noise counts for atmosphere is beyond me. This place is a bit like the Emperors New Clothes here nobody wants to admit its rubbish. Although the toppings of the pizza was delicious the bottom was soggy on half of our metre. the staff are friendly but are literally running through the restaurant like there is some emergency and I found that quite distracting. I felt sorry for them.
Chris
Food was ok, service was pushy. Before we had even finished eating we were asked for takeaway, basically suggesting we leave, which ruined the atmosphere
Ate the Napolitana pizza here, they don't have a supreme pizza - one with multiple meats and veggies, the waitress was accommodating, at least having not made a booking prior we were allowed to take a table for an hour, the pizza was ok but had burnt crusts. Staff not overly friendly
Allan Jackson
The words greedy and pushy come to mind when I think of Via Napoli
My guests and I last met up over a year ago, so as we all seated there was obviously a lot to catch up on. Your staff approached us numerous times pushing for us to order some starters, but with time of the essence your staff said they will "look after" us, and snatched the menus, apparently telling a couple of my guests they will bring an antipasto plate and bring the menus back later to order pizza. Mid way through conversation I stopped to ask my guests what just happened?? We were all equally confused on what was just ordered on our behalf.
Five minutes later, to the cheers of your staff a wooden board of mixed entrees was lowered onto the table, leaving us very surprised. The board had a series of very small entree dishes surrounded by $1.50 Woolworths red oak lettuce, scattered in a way to fill up the vast areas of vacant serving board.
As the eight of us rationed out the small entrees strategically spread out across the board, the menus quickly re-appeared, with staff pushing for us to order our pizza for mains.
Before we could finish our entree, the 1 metre pizza we'd ordered (and to be shared between six of the guests) had appeared. We had asked for 1/3 each of three different toppings, but ended up with 2/10ths the more expensive prosciutto pizza (which had almost no prosciutto on it), 3/10ths capricciosa and 5/10ths Luigi's fantasy pizza - which just so happened to be the one with no toppings on it that night (margherita I think)!
Then came the bill shock!!, How many restaurants charge $291 for an antipasto entree??? We were individually charged for every single individual item on the board adding up to $291 which your staff took it upon themselves to order. There was no clear communication of what was being ordered for us and no indication of price. At $291, the entrĆ©e was equivalent to approx. $36 per person, well above the cost of the 1 metre pizza for our main at $60 which served six of us! Thatā€™s $10 each!!
The whole dining experience was oriented towards getting us out as quick as possible, making the most money from us, whilst saving costs at all measures ā€¦. Disguising all this through a grandiose show of enthusiasm and excitement from your staff.
We were ripped off when the apportionment of pizza flavours was so obviously skewed to saving on ingredients, then ripped off again when your staff took it upon themselves to order us every single entrƩe on the menu!!

Just visited this restaurant for the second time last night and once again the pizzas were awesome! Only ever had good experience with the food. The service in the other hand...wow. I could not relax here! From the second we walked through the door some little loud man is shouting at us to come to a table while basically sprinting through a restaurant dodging every other frantic staff member. sat down and was given some table water and was straight away asked "ok what do you want"...we hadn't even picked the menu up yet. it took about 3 "we haven't looked yet" to finally get rid of him. He almost seemed annoyed that we didn't know. Food was out to us very quickly which is great. Then the whole meal was so stressful just sitting there having something attend to us after every mouthful and making it feel like they wanted us out of there as soon as possible. We timed how long it took from hem taking our plates and to getting our bill and it was 15 seconds...some would call it great service which I can agree to some point but I couldn't wait to get out of the place. I would've have loved to stay and relax for a couple more drinks but couldn't do it. both times its been like this so next time it looks like I'll just be getting the food takeway. Despite the food being great, i don't think it is worth the very loud and very stressful atmosphere.

Love these guys! Best pizza in Sydney hands down. The service was quick, and the food was well priced for what we got...not to mention how good it tastes. Keen to try out their Lane Cove restaurant.

Terrible - don't understand why this place is so busy. It's very average pizza and overbearing service- would expect this sort of thing in darling harbour rather than Surry hills
Beck
Ate here last night and won't be returning. The waiter tried to sell us $100 worth of appetisers before we pulled him up on his 'I'll put something together for your suggestions'. Our drinks order was forgotten and it took 15mins to even flag down a waitress to help us before she said 'we weren't in her section'. Admittedly the food was delicious. The waitress could tell that we had been ignored and had an unpleasant experience however the service over all was rubbish. Further to this it's so bloody noisy we sat in silence because we couldn't yell over the chaos. I feel sorry for the staff with their ear pieces that clearly distracts them from being able to listen to the customer and inhibits their service abilities. The food isn't worth the overall negative experience.

we went there for lunch. The food was ok. the service really bad... my plate and our glasses were durty and place is really noisy when it's busy.
The staff here are crazy in a good way. They're energetic and attentive but a little bit pushy and always trying to upsell which can be annoying.

We had the 0.5metre pizza and it was way too much food for two people. Enough for three or two very big eaters perhaps.

Excellent wood fired pizza but felt a bit touristy the way they yelled and sung to a group of Japanese folk.

Daniel Sutti Mansutti
The $55 per person set menu is one the best set menus in Sydney.
Honestly the value for money is amazing, and not to mention the quality of the food as well. The prosciutto fresh and not too salty. The mozzarella oozing out of the batter. But in my opinion I do believe it's one of the best wood fired pIzza in Sydney, the dough is so fluffy!
Yes it is very loud and the staff are just as loud but if your a grinch this place is not for you.

The worst service I've encountered in Sydney. I'm not normally someone who will write unfavorable reviews because I believe sometimes people and restaurants can have off days. However, last Friday the owner accused me of lying at Via Napoli in Surry Hills. We had a booking for 8pm, and I arrived at 7.55pm, informing the man out front (the owner, it turns out) of our booking and name. We were ushered outside to wait. By 8.10pm the owner ran by, asking 'booking?' and I repeated my name and that we have a table for 6 booked. By 8.25pm we were still not seated, and other people who DIDN'T have bookings were getting seated before us. So I went back in to inform the same man that we had been waiting 30 minutes, to which he replied 'You got here after 8. I saw you. You're lying' and then showed us inside and gave us a table. I don't appreciate being called a liar. On top of that, the starters we ordered were also forgotten, so even after we had finished 2 meter pizzas, the starters were still nowhere to be seen. So we informed them and told them we don't want them anymore, and left. I emailed Via Napoli privately to inform them of what happened, but of course I didn't receive a response. Will never return.

This had to be one of the worst meals i have had for quite sometime. I am a qualified chef and been in the industry working in a lot of hatted & Michelin starred venues for the past 12 years (even Italian restaurants) and this venue was an embarrassment to the industry.

Starting off with the food. Italian food is all about simple food but done with good and FRESH produce. The only thing simple about Via Napoli was the chefs cooking the meals. I had a antipasto for a entree that had deep fried spring rolls, the prawns and langoustines that were 5-7 days old as they smelt and the heads were oxidized so much that the whole heads of the prawns were black plus the meat was way to chalky and horrible (these are signs of when something is WAY past its due by date), The salad was off and wilted Ā as garnish, jar bought dips for all the other deep fried ingredients that was frozen fresh (i know this because i saw the chef de frosting it in the micro wave.)Ā

the service was shambolic. I think the waiters get commission for how many peroni beers they can sell in a hour. As in 5 minutes with me having half a beer left i had 7 waiters try to take my glass away and offer me a new beer since they thought i was finished.Ā

I sat on a table of 6 other friends they give us only 4 slices of bread and when asked for more they declined. The waiters kept sweating and then rubbing there sweat off with their hands or tea towels then instantly grab plates or food to take out to the tables. If your going to do that dont do it in FRONT OF CUSTOMER.(This didn't happen just the once).

Now getting to the best part. Well apparently the pizzas are the thing you go there for. Thats why my friends booked a table there. It comes out as a 5 foot long pizza. Yeah it looks great at first but please make sure it is bloody cooked first. The dough was so raw it looked like it was still proving on the table (i had to roll it up as a sushi roll and eat it with a knife and fork it was that under cooked). It wasnt even crisp or nothing. It was soggier then a wet sponge. So i watched the pizza chefs from were i was sitting how long they cook the pizzas for. Literally 2 minutes. How can you cook a 8 foot long, 10 foot long pizzas in that time?Ā

If you going to be gimmicky make sure you get the staples done properly first as this was an absolute joke to Italians and the hospitality industry. I never wright reviews about restaurants even if i have a bad experience but this place was the worse place i have ever dined at and felt i had to say something.Ā

If i could go minus on here I would give it a -10 instead. I would rather stick a rusty nail in my eye then eat at this venue again as it would be a lot more pleasurable.

Absolutely shocking!!!
Taylor Munro
I have been here a few times since it opened in Surryhills and every time the service and food has been worse than the last time! My first experience was pleasant great pizza, enjoyable experience. I feel like now the pizza has more crust than pizza and the staff are so over worked that they are arrogant and moody. There is no organisation and when we went for a friends birthday our starters were brung out as a completely different thing from what we ordered and at least 8 pizzas were wrong, and the staff were extremely rude. Would not recommend this place after this experience. It's ashame as it used to be mine and my friends choice of meeting
Kuma
Love here's food everything delicious BUT waiter is always busy , I can't order what I want , they speak so fast and never listen what I said , too loud , we ordered 2meters pizza and waiter said "We prepare pizza and you can choose flavour whenever you like" but he brought our pizza before he ask us what flavour we like. I wanna have the other flavour....
Helen | Grab Your Fork
Slice open the burrata and you'll be greeted with a river of mozzarella and cream. Its a dairy fiend's dream of rich butteriness sloshed over with olive oil and a twist of black pepper. Alternate mouthfuls of this with gently salty prosciutto and peppery rocket and just try and stop your eyes rolling to the back of your head with satisfaction.
Those Who Love To Eat
They say that a crowd attracts a crowd, and this is true in this instance. Driven by the desire to eat and given the time, most places would have been closing. It was a Wednesday evening around 9.30pm and came across this place that was buzzing, and thought we'd give this place a go!
Can't say that it's a pleasant surprise! The risotto was salty and the rice not al dente. Whilst the atmosphere was OK, the decibel made it hard to hold a conversation, and found the waiters too eager to help, at times, almost too pushy.
I can't say that I would be too much of a hurry to return or make future recommendations for this place. Let's just say, all the cheers is just a novelty that wears off rather quickly.
Anastasia
Honestly one of the warmest greeting I've ever experienced at a restaurant especially for my daughters- felt right at home. Super busy and loud but the food is that good you can overlook that. Fresh top quality ingredients. Pizza was amazing

For Mitchā€™s birthday we went to the new Via Napoli Pizzeria in Surry Hills. The Via Napoli Pizzeria in Lane Cove is an old favouriteĀ that never fails to disappoint and this place is the same. Itā€™s very authentically Italian and we always have a good time. Needless to say the food is fantastic. I highly recommend bringing a big group so you can try everything. We had a large group of more than 12 people, and were able to order the 2 meter pizza, 2 pastas, 1 gnocchi and a big antipasto board AND drinks. It worked out to be cheaper than their $45 set menu (since drinks arenā€™t included in that) and everyone got to have some of everything.

Excellent pizza
Pasta ok but pizza is better
Eugene Smetannikov
My impression about this restaurant is truly contradictory. When we arrived we were greeted by the friendly staff. And then some more friendly staff, which became a little bit over the top. However at this stage we didn't get bothered with what was probably how real Italians were supposed to behave. Drinks had arrived quickly, as had the food. I personally liked the pizza a lot (my wife less so).Ā

The staff continued being just a touch annoying: every person passing by the table was asking if the food was ok and we we want something else. The real annoyance started towards the end of the meal. First, while there was a slice of pizza on the plate one of the waitresses asked if she could take the plate away. It was puzzling, but a short "no" wasn't a problem to say. A minute later another waiter wanted to take the plate, then another. The next waiter asked with the bright smile: "Who is going to get the last slice?!", again hinting at wanting to take the plate. Eventually my wife lost it and offered them to take away the plates, the glasses, the cutlery, salt and pepper dispensers and the chairs. Jokes aside, the impression was that the staff were trying to get rid of us as quickly as possible.Ā

Eventually one person apologised and assured us that we can stay as long as we want and brought some Italian liqueur as the pacifier. By then however the evening was seriously spoiled and we did not want to look at the desserts.

Here you go: the food was not bad, but the overall service was disappointing.

Decided to get ASAP delivery of Via Napoli as it didn't deliver to our area. Ordered the metre long pizza. Unfortunately the pizza arrived cold but it still tasted good. Am definitely looking forward to dining in next time & will repost once done.

Excellent food. The buffalo mozzarella and prosciutto is divine. Pizzas are authentic and delicious. Service was super friendly and the place had a great vibe about it.

Having heard raving review for Via Napoli in Lane Cove, we were excited to finally assess the hype when it opened south of the Bridge in Surry Hills. As it was also one of our best friendā€™s birthday, the occasion doubled as the perfect adventure to taste an authentic, small slice of Italy.
