Review Ricepot - Sydney

Marcel Coutinho
Nearly didn't dine here because of the 3.5 star reviews. Honestly impressed with the food, large fresh tasty dishes. The service is a tad miss but it's a cheap (for Bondi) eats with nice food. From my experience deserves 4+.

Sadly, this has been my fav Thai spot in Bondi for over 15 years. I suppose it must have changed hands, or I was simply unlucky, but on the last two ocassions the dining experience was nothing compared to honest food and consistent quality it used to be. The Pad-Thai was so sweet that there was no room was other flavour to be indetified. The starter we ordered, satay skewers for $11.90, were simply four pieces of flavourless chicken dumped into the deep-fryer, and poured over a sauce (to the credit of the owner/staff when I approached them after taking the first bite of the gummy and tough meat this was removed from the bill). Would be great if you returned on the path of quality food for the people to enjoy

As my friend is a vegan, we followed the shop as they mentioned few vegetarian options. I ordered massaman curry and she ordered one of vegetable dish. She seems fine to have, but mine was very cold. It is unisex toilet but clean enough. Staff are quick without smile tho. Bit unfriendly, and never smile whenever we called them. I think it is also a bit overpriced comparing other Thai restaurant. But they are giving like a mountain rice in a bowl. Nothing special, but not bad.

Literally the worst service I‘ve ever experienced. They kept arguing with us about wether we ordered dishes we 100% ordered and kept being very disrespectful, sassy and giving us attitude. The food was mediocre and there was chicken in one of the vegetarian dishes.

Very average Thai food. Ordered the crispy whole fish and pad see ew, and nothing really stood out for me. Good location and nice ambience, but food was just ok

There's nothing like finding a big long black hair in your curry to put you off your meal - yuk.

We had amazing service they changed my dish to make it gluten free and it tasted amazing. Couldve had more vegtables but it was a huge serving. Will definetly recomend.

I've been in Sydney for 2 weeks now and it's the best place I've eaten so far. Great food, very cheap and close to the beach. 100% recommended!

This little Thai place packs a punch. The food was fresh, and full of flavour. The ginger veggie and tofu dish had the right balance of spices, ginger, and veggies. The beef massaman (not mine) was incredibly large, and had plenty of slow cooked beef, beans, potato, and curry sauce. The tofu entree was large enough for two. Service was outstanding for this little cafe. I highly recommend.

Small tidy place which serves good decent thai food.
We ordered chicken pad Thai. It taste good and qty was also good.

additional charges for swiping using debit card was a turn off as we are in Sydney that too in a tourist place and paid a good amount. So additional charges should be avoided.

Great place for delicious, authentic and fresh Thai food. There’s a huge variety of food to choose from and they have restaurant specials and recommendations for those wanting to try something different. I recommend the crispy noodles and the soft shell crab. Overall great service, food and ambiance.

This is a BYOB place that I would recommend to locals looking for some satisfying comfort food, especially later in the evening. They have a huge menu and honestly it may be hard to choose as there are no pictures. Their back wall is a mirror which made the place look twice as large as it really is, but it really gives off a cosy feeling. The service is a little disappointing as we had to repeat our order multiple times and follow up on the order after it took a really long time, and they also started kicking us out way before their closing time after we had finished eating.

**edit**: changing my rating from a 3 to a 4 after we came back for more. The food was really just so comforting and satisfying on a cold chilly night. Definitely one of those places that can become a staple option for locals.

I needed my rice fix today so I decided to have lunch here. Opening hours is a bit misleading since I would normally just check what time a restaurant opens on this app. I got there at 11:55 and there weren't any customers inside, I thought good I'm the first one, but saw the staff eating at the far end of the place. A few seconds later the staff told me they don't open until 12, and she also told a couple who just arrived. So I hope they update the correct business hours soon on zomato. Anyway, I ordered money bags for appetizer and they were huge! I sliced it open but inside there were more veggies than the actual minced meat but thought it was just average. The chicken fried rice took a while to take I'm not sure why but it was good. I was eating alone so I couldn't finish the entire meal. It was great that they had seasoning ready on the tables and I didn't have to ask for anything more.. maybe Thai fish sauce next time to add more flavor. But overall, it was good.

Upon arrival we were pointed not taken to our table, staff were incredibly rude, very slow and completely oblivious to general standards of customer service in the hospitality industry. We were also shown to a table that we struggled to fit on. We then waited what could be considered a longer than average time for our food (eventually recieving our food but after 6 people who ordered after us!) Once the food did arrive it was cooked to a good standard but the service and crammed nature of the restaurant ruined the experience. What was perhaps most inconvenient about the situation was the "cash only" issue, this resulted in us having to go to the nearest ATM which was a couple of streets away which was quite frankly embaressing. I would never go back!

Staff need to be trained properly, they were ignorant and rude.
6 people came in after us and got their food before us.
You could hardly fit in the restaurant it was that crammed.
I wont be going back even though the food was decent.

The restaurant was full of people thought would be nice food .The staff are excellent wish I could say the same for the food .The food was very plain for thai food no flavours and no spices added to food I had to keep asking for more chilli to give it some taste .The dishes are also over priced would not recommend this place lot of better restaurants around the area

FANTASTIC thai food. we ordered a pad thai (you can't not order a pad thai if out eating thai) and a snowpea stir fry. OH GOOD LORD the stir fry. we forgot the pad thai after trying it. you could taste the freshness in the ingredients. would definetely come back! (also, the thai place in front doesnt have a license - and the glass of white wine pairs too nicely with the food!).
Vanessa
Terrible. This place used to be OK but this year the food has been below average on not one but three occasions.

Extremely sweet stir fries; overcooked noodles with no vegetables...

The Thai food a little up the road and on Bondi Road is so much better!

Love this place went last Saturday
Chicken satay, soft shell crab,
Jungle curry, sticky rice, sweet potato & chicken curry all amazing!! And BYO too
Will return on my next trip to Bondi for sure

I am currently having the best hot and sour soup of my life!! Accompanied with a fluffy and delicious portion of coconut rice. 4.5/5 for me, I HIGHLY recommend it.

(P.s mild is pretty spicy so beware!)
Butternut Muncher
What I'd say I loved most about this would be the atmosphere! The place is decorated with black walls and bright lights, with very colourful decorations overhead. I found this place on zomato, actually, and I was disappointed to arrive and discover that the prices were actually higher than on this site here. I ordered the tamarind stir fry, which arrived in a reasonable amount of time. The portion sizes were extremely generous. One thing I would put to fault, however, is that my stir fry was just warm and not hot. But great restaurant other than that. I'd suggest sharing dishes.

Nice little establishment nestled a pond one of Bondis busy streets. Cosy and warming to the soul, the food here is good without standing out from the rest.

Pricing is normal in comparison to other Thai restaurants in the area.

Not my first selection for Thai food but wouldn't dismiss it either

Bittersweet experience here. They serve on of mu favorite dishes: Kemow Fried Rice (as they call it). It has a different name depending on the restaurant but it's a chili basil fried rice. It was great but not quite the flavor I was after. It was a pretty decent experience until I saw that there was a large cockroach on one of the other patrons tables. One of the waitresses just decided to smash it with one of the water bottles and wipe it off like it was a common occurrence. Makes this place seem extremely unsanitary and makes me wonder how often this happens. Don't know if I would come here again.

My first impression is that I made a bad decision to come here for a Friday dinner and it turned out to be bad. Very noisy, very tight between tables. The soup, the salad and the curry dishes, none is good. My curry chicken is way too sweet that I couldn't finish even 1/4. I didn't even bother taking photos. It won't be my place anymore.

My family came here for dinner tonight and we noticed many came in to take away. I had a living social voucher for a set menu for 4 adults and even with this deal the potions were so generous we had to take away some of the food to avoid wastage.

Staff were friendly and they were accommodating to make them egg fried rice with added chicken for my toddler who loves to eat rice. I tried their duck spring roll to start which was nice then had their red duck curry which had a nice amount of spice and flavour. My MIL Penang beef was very tough and unpleasant to eat. My mum had their vegetarian spring roll which she found flavorless but she did enjoy her masamam beef curry which had tender pieces of beef.

We all ended the meal with their black rice with coconut custard which was overly sweet and not that exciting to eat so we all left most of it behind.

As mentioned it is cash only and they have BYO. Also no highchairs so if you have a young babies/toddlers bring your booster/highchairs.
Nourishment Bowl
Delicious Thai in the middle of Bondi. The servings are pretty large so don't over order. I love that they serve brown rice. It's so good! This is also one of those places where their takeaway is nearly as good as in store. The pumpkin, snow pea and egg stir fry is my fave.
Sam
Very nice Thai food! Good, friendly and fast service. Wide array of choices on the menu. Lots of unusual dishes as well. The serving were ENORMOUS, especially considering that mains were about $16 each. Food was delicious - black sticky rice was great.
Beef Ball
One of the best thai restos I've visited recently. I had the holy basil stir fry. Quality and portion size was excellent. Great value for money. When walking past, I always thought the seating looked a little cramped but when seated, it was fine. It was perhaps a little loud, but acceptable.

Good things come in small venues. Just had a spontaneous bite with my partner. It was a quick experience but the food was delicious and reasonably priced. Certainly a good option if Asian flavor is what you're looking for. Happy to know this little Hall Street gem is as a local option. Will definitely go back. I'm very curious about the ruby red sangria.

Quick cheap and tasty. If you are craving thai this is the place to go if you LIVE IN BONDI.

cheap, quick and yum

I've been here 10+ times in the last few months since I discovered it. I always go at lunch to take full advantage of there $10 lunch deal. My review is very much based on the fact I am only spending $10 for a good feed. I have never been in the evening when there is more on the menu but the prices are higher. Ok back to the review.
The food is insanely good for the price. The portion sizes are great too and comes with either rice if it's a curry or stir fry or noodles if you prefer. I almost always have the Beef Penang curry. The sauce is to die for! There is plenty of meat and although it is not the finest quality it tastes so good and I haven't had a bad piece yet. comes out so quickly as well. The lunch menu as a great range of options so I guarantee you'll find something you love. Overall a great no an amazing place for a cheap quick lunch.

On a side note: the staff are very shy and never chit chat but that doesn't really bother me. Thy are however very flexible when you are making special requests, vegetarian options for example.

Highly recommended! Keep it up guys!

Great quality food. Shame they didn't turn airconditioner. It was like sitting in a sauna. Will be back though as I enjoyed what I ate

Very disappointed :(

Just keep coming back to you... Throughout the last few years of my interstate adventures, this is the one restaurant I can't stay away from.

Perhaps it's the great (read: pretentious, new age, inexplicably attractive) Bondi vibe. Perhaps it's the lovely outdoor seating. Perhaps it's the late opening hours and the fact that you can show up with 6 people at 8:45pm on a Sunday night and know you have time for dinner, dessert and wine. Perhaps it's the really cheap prices and the fact that the food is phenomenal..

Whatever it is, I'm hooked and I don't do Thai in Sydney without the Rice Pot. Neither should you!

Extremely unfriendly staff. Bad food, worst papaya salad in my life.
Suchada Limlawan
Need to improve. Not sure they like cooking or just do it for money. Service is slow. Food is nothing I will go back for.
Carlos Benitez
Poor service and aggressive staff. I don't recommend this place.

The chicken was ROTTEN!! In the noodles we had today. We advised the waitress and she insisted it was fresh. After telling them they did not do anything to make this up. I am not coming back but wanted to alert people about this. The waiting staff is NOT FRIENDLY AT ALL.
Valerie Trenear
Pleasantly surprised, wasn't expecting too much and ended having some of the best Thai food I have had.
Michelle
We were looking for a quick takeaway in bondi beach that wasn't greasy burgers and found this healthy fresh little gem. Thai beef salad was lovely with roti bread and coconut rice. Yummy!

Simple & Great. Everything I have tried is delicious here. The thai curries are yum as it the Pad see ewe. Highly recommended for a relaxed, down to earth, affordable dinner out. Can't pay by card which is a bit annoying.

Delivery - Poor Service. Just ordered from Ricepot for the first time after hearing some pretty amazing things about the food. I absolutely love Thai curry, so I ordered the green curry with prawns and black rice just to be a bit healthy. After waiting for nearly one hour (I just live down the road), my food arrived. The very unfriendly delivery man gave me the food, took my money, and ran off. The problem was, my order was wrong... no black rice. I called them up requesting the rice and they were so rude. It eventually arrived and I started my dinner 1.5 hours after I called them. So if you're hungry and you don't want to wait 1.5 hours, eat somewhere else. If you have 1.5 hours to spare, and you want to try average curry, then Ricepot is your place. Overrated.

Fast, fresh, and tasty. Favorite: combination basil noodle.

Carrot garnish the highlight. I can't fault the service, nor ambience. However when the food is so disappointingly awful, the basics dim in to oblivion.
The salt and pepper soft tofu I shared for entree had little salt or pepper, just an oily deep fried batter and bottle sweet chili sauce on the side.
I ordered the chicken larb salad for main and although the portion was generous, most of it was left behind because it was so salty. Who went long on salt futures here?
The carrot, served as a garnish, was the best part of the meal.

Fantastic. Fabulous food and service. Loved the duck stir fry and vegetable spring rolls. Great options for vegetarians.
