Review The Royal George - Sydney

John Curtis
Walked in for a dinner with a friend at 6:00 on a Friday night and must have found the last table in the whole place. Ordered using online app and table number. Atmosphere was friendly, bathrooms clean. Service was prompt considering how busy they were. Food was hot and the burger and chips tasted great. I would have like a few more cider options (only 2). If you want to play pool on the table downstairs, it is almost impossible given the proximity of the playing table to the dining tables, however if it was less busy it would have been fine. Overall a great experience, I would eat here again.

Not only a fantastic pub to catch up with the friends, but also a suitable place for a busy lunch in the city. You will feel the passion and the attentiveness of the staff members from every single details.

Perfectly cooked tender steak. Warm & cosy. Value for money $30 steak dinner :)

If you come when it is busy, like after work drinks on Friday, prepared to be deafened. It’s like it was designed to amplify every bit of background noise. Some like the atmosphere, but I prefer not to have to shout to be heard, it’s a bar not a nightclub.

Great service, had 3 cocktails. Espresso martini, french martini and one of the nicest long island ice teas I have ever had! The place gets very busy in the evening and the noise gets very loud.

I have been there multiple times. It's a great pp lace t ok catch up with friends. The majority of my experience was great except for the last couple, where I was served in a plastic glass (just after lunchtime).

Merivale's take on a classic cosy city pub, done well and good value for the location. Great for drinks, the food is a perfectly adequate set of pub classics. Ideal for cold winter days or nights - it's definitely not a beer garden venue!

Ordered the Steak and it's next level good.... Will order more of this every time I am in Sydney

Went for some food and drinks at around 8pm on a Friday night. We were a large party of 8 and there was enough seating for us. The food was good but felt overpriced but I guess the servings were fair. Interesting music playlist, went from black eyed peas to arctic monkeys.

What a shit venue! The staff lie and steal your property and then lie again about it! Terrible people! You’ll get yours!!!!!!!! Apparently this review has a minimum number of characters 1111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111

The royal George offers the best $1 wings! Not only is it just the wing but comes with the drum stick. Value yo! Out of every other $1 wings place this is by far the best bang for your buck! Great location central and right across Wynyard station. Great for casual drinks and hangouts. Highly recommended on a Wednesday!

P.s Tommy is a dud

Just arrived in Sydney from Perth and looking for a good pub meal. Service was very friendly and a bit of fun. Had the pie with peas and mash. Sensational as a pie can be. Really enjoyed the meal and our time there. Will return.

The barman served me drinks, took my order AND ended up being the one to serve our food to us during happy hour when all the after work tightasses are out. BRAVO. Aces in customer service by my books. $1 chicken wings with korean chilli sauce. Yum!

The Royal George Hotel on George St in the heart of the city. It is a large space with a UK style pub set up with plenty of seating upstairs and a pool table downstairs. There are a few TV's scattered around if you want to watch some sport. A great spot to catch up with friends, especially on a Saturday arvo. The have a great happy hour running from 5-7 you can get $7 pints with a good selection of beer on tap, there is $6 chandon and house spirits. They also do $1 wings, a great accompaniment to a few beverages.

The waitress was lovely and helpful ! The place itself is a bit funny looking and that makes it very interesting. Say down for a steak and that was alright. The portion was big and cooled the way I wanted but the fries were way too salty and the salad was buried under dressing. . Would probably not go back for food but keen for a drink there !

Good place to chill after a long hard day of work, whether it's Monday or a Friday! The staff @ RGs are always super friendly and nice too. 🍷Happy hour🍻 from 5-7 also.

Friend and I were too early for our dinner reservation at nearby Wolf bar, so ended up popping into this pub for a quick pre-dinner drink since it is right across our rendezvous Wynyard station. It offers one of the best happy hour deal in Sydney CBD - $5 pint, house wines, and spirits! We both had house white, it was decent. We also ordered some focaccia bread to nibble on but for some reason it never turned up. What impressed me was the way how the staff handled it. They first tried to get to the bottom of the mis-communication but no luck. Then they refunded us and offered free complimentary food from the menu as apology. Unfortunately we were on time for dinner reservation and didn't have time to linger on. Mistakes happen but it's good to see how professional they were.

Horrible service!
Staff members were very rude and lazy - we waited at the door and no one came to serve us so we proceeded to the seats ourselves.

It's been 5 minutes after we have sat down and no one came to serve us ( it was 4pm it wasn't even busy at all! )
There were like 4/5 staffs around just ignoring us until we decided to ask them for the menu.

After ordering, it took super long for my mash to arrive, which I saw it on the kitchen top and we also heard the bell that profiles the staff to serve it to us.

Both girl pushed the orders around and finally one of the guys got up to serve us - so lazy and unfriendly.

Food was so bad - the steak had a weird end taste to it and the mash was just plain dry and horrible to swallow.

DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TO COME HERE AT ALL.

Terrible food!
If you're after a massively overpriced salad then this is the place! We paid $17 for a bowl of lettuce, a few pieces of Beetroot and some feta. I haven't been so disappointed in a long time... I had fond memories of the food here but was really let down.. There is no way I'd return for the food. Definitely steer clear!

Good food but still well priced. Good atmosphere and an enjoyable experience all round. The portion sizes were fair and service was good. I wish I had have gone on a weekday for happy hour!

You got spooned 🍴

We kind of expected a dive inside (although I don't know why, especially after realising it was one of those la-di-da Merivale swankers) but we were surprised to find a cleaned-up raw-brick bar and dining room with an old country club vibe and royal castle touches. The walls are treated with wooden wall hangings and old paintings, the furniture looks like it might have been dug up from an old estate or garden shed and throughout the main room there are some ceiling-hanging plants to soften the bold brick.

My Friend has a love for English style pub grub and bangers and mash in particular, with especially no greens, so she chose the Royal George at The Ivy for a catch up with myself and a couple of her colleagues. Having only ever walked past this part of th

Oh the Arrogance...... Melbourne Cup Day.....was making a purchase at a store in Palings Lane with my 4 and 1 year old. 4 year old needed the toilet urgently so was directed to the Royal George. Off I ran with my pram and kids in tow. Got stopped at the door by Mr Hippy who told me to go round the front even though he could see I had a pram and there were stairs in front. Not sure if he had any brains or just had no empathy. Being a visitor, I wasn't sure where to go and wouldn't have headed there if I wasn't desperate. Based on such arrogance and snobbery, I wouldn't be wasting my hard earner money at such a establishment!!!

Agree With Coby Great Schnita. I have eaten here a handful of times, each time I order the same thing, the schnitzel. They are very yummy and has me coming back, cant say anything for the rest of the menu as I have not tried anything else
Kieranb
The $20 steak didn't even compare to the $7 steak at the Carrington. The cheapest fattiest cut of meat. Gross! I'll be sticking to the other pubs that do good steak cheap, rather than cheap steak bad...

Best Schnitzels in Sydney!. Fresh, modern and delicious pub fare.

The salads are great, although I remember the chicken in the burger was dry when I tried it. They do a great schnitzel, so I rarely try anything else.
