Review Jpb Restaurant - Sydney

Stephen B. Cohen
The food at Jpb Restaurant is excellent. Our entree included a substantial piece of smoked salmon, which happened to be the tastiest smoked salmon I've ever had. Our mains were also very good. The barramundi was cooked to perfection and the rare scotch fillet steak was soft and juicy. A highly recommended restaurant.

I went to JPB restaurant after seeing a deal on Dimmi for 50% off food. My friend and I chose the Scotch fillet steak as mains with Hiramasa kingfish and Pork belly as the entrees. The scotch fillet was pretty nice and juicy, well seasoned and both entrees were surprisingly good. The waitress we had was very attentive. Would recommend!

Lovely environment, inside a 5 star hotel. Brought this 4 course meal from Groupon, $70 for 2. Well worth it.

We live nearby & come to this restaurant quite often. They used to do vegan gnocchi which was nice but since the chef changed they don’t have any vegan option & only 1 salad from Vegetarians! It’s sad that every single item on the menu have to have animal products in them! Everywhere else offers at least one Vegan option on the menu! It’s disappointing!

Went there on a Groupon voucher for a 5 course meal and a bottle of house wine. Food was great for the price paid. Staffs were very accomodating and friendly plus the other diners too. Had a good chat and laugh with them.

Hotel looks amazing. Hotel is now part of Accor, so things will improve, especially in the F&B department. 5 went for dinner (4 adults and 1 child). Drink order went wrong, food order went wrong. Menu is limited. Was the place pumping? No. Food was lovely, eatable and presentation to perfection. Service could've been better. Being a Saturday night, restaurant wasn't that busy, but on seating we were told we need to vacate at 8.30pm. About 6 tables were dining. Would I go back??? Yes, as I think this place has so so much potential. The restaurant needs MORE Carlos! I will be back!!

We had breakfast here. Food was good, but also not impressive. The deal breaker for me was waiting for coffee that didn't arrive. Had to follow up for more than 5x. No instant coffee available either for help yourself option. Hot drinks is by order only. I feel that this place was way too busy for their limited staff at that time. Experience could be improved.

Our server was very nice asked us if we wanted sparkling water or flat to start, we chose flat assuming this would be tap water. The server brought the wrong wine glasses, opened our bottle of sparkling wine and poured it into one glass before realising, then spent a long time away, while the wine was going flat, before returning with champagne glasses. Potatoes in my meal tasted reheated not freshly cooked so I did not eat them. I ordered salad with my meal which only arrived after I reminded two serving staff and when my meal was almost finished. We were charged $12 for the water we were served and advised that it was mineral water. I expected a high level of service and high quality of food for the price I paid. Even though there were only another 3 tables with customers, it was very difficult to find a server available to ask for help. I was very disappointed. I will not return here and would not recommend it.

Wines listed unavailable, some staff were rude, some elements of dish undercooked, ordered the beetroot with goats cheese and there was less than a tap of goats cheese on the plate

We were really excited to go here... finally!
Right from the start we knew it was going to be “one of those nights!”
Service was not got good waited for 20mins for drinks. One drink which was a vodka lime and Soda was served with NO ice! Table wasn’t even set, no S & P or glasses!! No candle which makes the ambience of the place.
We had 4 different waiters asking the same questions. Obviously they aren’t given an area to look after.
Oysters served with no plates and nothing to eat with!
We also needed a spoon to serve the sauce for the oysters with the waitress came with a desert spoon!! My goodness the list goes on!
We didn’t order main meals
WE LEFT!!
Won’t be going back.
Really disappointed
Good space and friendly staff. We ordered the pork share plate and in all honesty, I didn’t feel that it was slow cooked (as described on the menu). It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great for the price either.

JPB is a contemporary fine dining restaurant situated in Swissotel Sydney. It has nice ambience and friendly service. We enjoyed the food we ordered.

Tried the cheese fondue night here and absolutely loved it!
The food was on point and the service was exceptional.
A nice and cozy place to go on date night and has a nice ambience to it.
Located just off of George Street so is quite easy to get to.
Would definitely recommend this place.

One of the biggest served of cream brûlée that I’ve try.
Serve in the shallow big bowl, garnished with the biggest and thickest short bread, strawberry and blue berries combo and some micro herbs.
See picture below, and tell me if my opinion is wrong 😁

Booked confirmed at 7.30 pm, and our steaks not even ready yet till 9.00pm? What a joke!! Rubbish hotel for sure! Extremely bad! Wasn’t expected to get this experience on V’s day! Really disappointed!

For many years, the Swissotel has been celebrating Vitality week. The JPB Restaurant is located within the 5 star Swissotel and the guests can also enjoy their vitality special menu which is a on-going fixture on the menu at JPB Restaurant. I personally need a good injection of vitality. I've been very naughty. For a full review including photos, please go to the blog post.

My partner and I stayed at the Swissotel over the weekend of November 11th to 13th 2016 and had Executive Lounge access. On the first day we were disappointed at the quality of the food in the Executive Lounge that we decided to have breakfast on the Sunday in JPB. This was a great decision.

The range of food covered everything that you would like. If you wanted an omlette they would make it fresh for you with whatever you wanted in it.

If you are looking for a full breakfast then do yourself a favour and book a table at JPB.

Seriously below average food. I have no idea who the chef is but twice in a row now I have had an absolutely shocking dinner meal! They have no idea on how to cook a steak! .... I asked for medium rare and it ranged from well done to rare across the steak. Side dishes and main presentation are sub par as well.
With the intense competition in the cbd you should save your money and look around.
Once Upon A Craving
Enjoyed a four course dinner with a bottle of wine and the views from our table by the window was gorgeous.

Entreé: Hiramasa king fish sashimi with ribbons of pickled beetroot, dollops of horse radish, sea succulents, finger lime caviar and puffed rice • Fresh and light palate cleanser with a touch of crunch to balance the silky sashimi and beetroot.

Second: Cream infused Pumpkin Soup topped with pumpkin seeds and grilled sour dough bread • Crème de la Crème of Pumpkin Soups| I'm usually not the biggest fan of pumpkin soup but my oh my JPB has revolutionalised my palate.

Main: 12hr Slow Cooked Beef Cheek with Marrow Bone • succulently soft beef that separates at the touch of a fork and melts in your mouth into pure deliciousness.

Dessert: Passionfruit tart with white chocolate and coconut.

Overall, JPB Dining was a delightful meal, the service staff were attentive and appeasing. Would definetly be back for more!

Went here on a groupon voucher. The setting is quite nice and had a really relaxed ambience.

Starter of baba ganoosh had a really fresh eggplant flavour throughout, paired well with the olives.
Kingfish was a little bland but overall a nice fresh start.

Overall definitely recommend the beef cheeks and the truffle chips, both were absolutely Divine. Paired with lovely service, I'd say it's a pretty successful groupon.

We had the dinner 1 year ago the first time with the Groupon promotion, $79 for two. The place and the environment was great since its a hotel. However the food and service was absolutely RIDICULOUS. I have enjoyed different fine dining places monthly in Sydney and this one is absolutely disappointing. The promotion was supposed to attract new customers, to impress the customers, then they come back. But this restaurant has done the opposite way. Its cheap $79, so there were way too many customers and extremely slow service. It took about 20 mins for each dish to come out, BUT FAST FOOD QUALITY. Im 100% sure the food was microwaved. What a waste of time for a wait of whole night for dinner that was even worse than Mcdonalds. If $79 isnt enough for getting fresh food and enough waiters, then DONT offer that to your customers!

High tea served at Swissotel for 2 bought a voucher off Groupon for $59.Good service and great experience with good tasting desserts. The sandwiches were slightly dry and quite small.Overall the view was lovely and food wasn't too bad would come back for the buffet.

Went early on a Sunday for hi tea so it wasn't too crowded. Buffet hi tea: I like the idea. The savory food wasn't too imaginative but there was a good variety of sweet stuff. The sandwiches were fresh and frequently replaced. The tea was piping hot! Great location for a quick hi tea in the city to rest between delicious Sydney shopping!

Came here for grandmother's 80th birthday on Groupon vouchers for 5 course degustation. More than half the menu choices had surcharges next to them. Damper course was mediocre, the beetroot salad was delicious with the sweetness of citrus. Ordered calamari (+$5) which was yummy, but rocket side salad was disappointingly bland. Cured trout with cucumber was refreshing, colours were wonderful. 24hr slow cooked beef short loin was tender with a good ratio of fat to lean meat. Didn't get to try the dessert but family members said it was good. Overall, if we hadn't been left waiting 30 minutes at the start for someone to offer us water, then approached a waiter to ask for service before waiting another 10 minutes, it would've been a flawless evening.

nice hotel with outstanding service. been there for high tea buffet. very delicate. tea and small sandwiches are perfect but the scone is a little bit dry, not as good as victoria's tea room. regular white plates are used in the hotel. not very classic. but there are a lot of tasty snacks to choose from.

Presentable including food, staff, environment, restaurant look, pleasant place, warm ambience, friendly staff, relaxing live jazz and we had 5 courses meal (overall, it was very nice)

Came with a groupon on my birthday and had the high tea and it was nice. We enjoyed everything - we wouldn't rave about them but who raves about little delicate high tea sandwiches? The service was absolutely fantastic - top notch service. I'd like to thank the staff for a wonderful afternoon on my birthday.

I would say this restaurant the food very average. The JPB so lucky that I rate 3 because in that day the staff who is a female and I guess she from Japan was very nice to me and help me prepare Birthday dessert.

However, I won't come back to this restaurant again particular if I have to booked the table,

I can't believe I booked the table 3 weeks in advance !!! and the lady who receive my call confirm me table. In that night I also stay at swisssotel when I arrive ask the reception to confirm my table and he say "sorry, we don't have your name in the list" at the restaurant.
Eventually, end up that the reception re-booked the restaurant for me.

I would recommend Swissotel should hire NEW employees who gonna make reservation table in this restaurant. I never ever talk with staff who act absolutely rude like that. And I won't come back to eat here again.

The taste of food maybe is a key factor that make customer want to come back but if service is shit, no matter how delicious food is, I won't come back to eat from that restaurant again.

Went to this restaurant on a Groupon voucher. We could only get a booking for 9pm and asked if we could arrive earlier but were told it was too busy. After arriving at 8:30pm anyway, we were instantly seated in a next to empty restaurant. Most of the items on the set menu had a surcharge added to them. The food and service was average at best and the wait staff tried to charge us extra for surcharge items which we never ordered. Wouldn't bother eating here again.

I love my specials and going through coupon websites such as Groupon for a good deal or 2. So this week, Miss S and myself decided to cash in our most recent purchase, a 5-course meal with a bottle of wine for 2 people for $79! It sure is a good deal. JPB Dining is located Swissotel Sydney in the CBD. Very conveniently located. I do like the Crossroads Bar at the same venue as well. That’s where we usually take clients to for coffee as it is nice, quiet, cosy, yet fancy enough as well.

This place well executed the saying "you don't need to overcomplicate your dishes, just excel something simple" there was a star in every single dish and the chef has truly mastered the menu. Nothing over complicated, just simple and elegant. Very impressed. The smoked salmon was so smooth and well seasoned. short rib was amazing, juicy, soft, packed with flavour, can't fault at all. My hero of the night, scallops, delicious!!! The lemon myrtle sauce balanced the dish so well, can't have enough of it. Reasonably priced too. Best for girls catch up or special occasions

Ceviche of Hervey Bay scallops is fresh, succulent and tangy in a diced tomato vinaigrette with black garlic mayonnaise adding a savoury tinge.

Service: 5/10
Food:
High tea buffet ($35 per person) - 6/10

Honestly expected better, food was decent however atmosphere at the place was also quite decent except the fact of some rude people present. However, did have a decent view

Boring and uncreative food. No idea how to cater for special dietary requirements. It's just awkward having to wait around for a 'special meal' while everyone else is eating. Get your act together Swissotel.

We had the Groupon voucher for dinner here (Groupon menu uploaded). It was an early weekend dinner @6 pm, place was quite empty. Service was prompt and efficient, if a little cold. Now the food: bread dampener was average, seafood chowder 6/10 for taste, portion was small but was piping hot. Smoked salmon appetiser (paid extra) 5/10. Haloumi salad 5/10. Mains of Tasmanian salmon 5/10, crispy skin but cooked unevenly, dry in most places, moist in few. The best was the beef short ribs (apparently braised for 12 hours?), 7/10, succulent melt in your mouth with enough caramelised fat in the meat, quite flavoursome. Dessert: Choco cake 6/10, cheesecake 6/10 (paid extra). Would we return? I doubt it.

It's not every day that you get a choice of 4 different salts to add to your food, at least not for me anyway. But then again it's not every day that we dine in fancy restaurants like JPB (Just Pure Bistro) at the Swissotel. Infact, we rarely dine at restaurants like this (we like quantity perhaps a little more than we like quantity) but a recent Groupon deal did make it quite affordable for us to have a quiet birthday dinner here. Black Garlic and Chive Damper Situated on the 8th floor of Swissotel, right next to Crossroads bar (home to the famous high tea buffet), the restaurant is a nice dining space. If you're lucky enough to get a seat next to the window as we did, you'll have a lovely view of Sydney Tower towering above you. The 5 course menu starts with the black garlic and chive damper with seaweed butter. The bread is nice and soft, though the butter didn't really taste that different to normal butter. Moreton bay Bug The starter of Moreton bay bug is presented beautifully, served in small cubes mixed with ginger, capsicum, shallot and interestingly Nashi pear. The pear imparts a different type of sweetness, and though I personally found it quite amusing, I can't say everyone enjoyed this combination. Roasted Baby Beetroot Salad The entree of roasted baby beetroot with field to feast rocket and Janne Cheddar Chevre sounds more like a glorified salad than anything, and though it looks that too, we are really surprised that it tastes much better than expected. The rocket is fresh and its light bitterness accentuates the sweetness of the beetroot- something I'm not usually too much of a fan of. The seed cracker and crushed pistachios seem more for garnish than taste, but they add a nice textural contrast to the salad. Ala Minute Smoked Ocean Salmon The other entree option is the Ala Minute Smoked Ocean Salmon, served with cauliflower, tarragon and pumpernickel. We quite enjoy the salmon as it is not overly smoky. It's our first time trying pumpernickel in seed

Mixed results. We dined here with a Groupon voucher; a 5-course meal comprising of 3 degustation-size courses, a main and dessert. The good: the kitchen coped admirably well with a vegetarian; the lentils signature dish (a main) was fantastic and the mushroom soup very good and a generous portion. The scallops (another main) were beautiful and the dessert (cheesecake) decadent and yummy. The bad: I found the Moreton Bay bug course minuscule and tasteless, the roasted beetroot course was pleasant to look at but offered little in the way of taste. Our booking got lost somehow (despite receiving a confirmation both by email and SMS) but luckily they did manage to fit us in. Service was hectic (waiters excel at rushing around empty handed while avoiding eye contact) and the wait too long between courses. Overall we did enjoy our meal and at $84 ($79 for the Groupon voucher plus $5 supplement for the scallops) it was well priced (a bottle of OK wine included in the deal). Without a voucher prices seem too high for what you get.

The restaurant is located inside Swissotel Hotel Sydney, and after walking past the lobby, the restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful! Small candles on every table, clear, clean glassware, more forks and knives than you need to eat one meal, and spacious, comfy chairs. Already in love with the decorations inside, we slowly read over the menu of limited choices (offer as part of a Groupon deal). For mains, you can select from Pork belly, Angus beef, or Barramundi fish fillet. Mango Prawn Salad Mushroom Risotto Pork Belly Angus Beef with Broccolini Barramundi Fish Fillet with Mash Potatoes Chocolate Mousse, chocolate tart, Opera cake slice Choice of red or white wine The presentation of dishes here is immaculate. Not a splat out of place. The angus beef and mash potato wer

But curiosity won over when I saw my dinner companion swooning over the lamb and he was kind enough to cut me a whole rib. And it was simply amazing. I could cut through it with my standard dinner knife and the meat was tender and flavoursome. Simply put, it converted me and put to rest an old childhood trauma.

Jugernauts.com | Just Pure Bistro has now been relaunched with the moniker JPB. Came here for a long lunch meetup and got to experience their new menu. We got introduced to JPB and the floor manager explained that they actually had a bee farm in the hotel and that the honey used in the swissotel came from their bee farm. Fascinating stuff. Per their website “a bistro offering a range of fresh, organic and locally sourced produce including organic honey sourced from the 200,000 bees that live on the roof of the hotel, extra virgin olive oil from Megalong Valley and pork from Byron Bay.” The cuisine here is classed “Mod Aus” http://www.swissotel.com/hotels/sydney/dining/jpb/ The restaurant was also refurbished to reflect its new name and is a trendy cosmopolitan feeling venue now with the appropriate elegance of a hotel restaurant befitting the swissotel brand. dark woods, shiny surfaces beef salad, tomato and bocconcini starter tomato salad with bocconcini salmon, fennel salad, squid i

The buffet breakfast at JPB Restaurant in the Swissotel Sydney costs $35 per person or $25 if you are staying as a guest. As it so happened, we had booked a night at the hotel for fun so we were able to enjoy the discounted rate. The buffet spread includes the usual juices, pastries, fruits, cereals and hot foods.

The chocolate soufflé was beautiful, soft creamy. Below was a later of chocolate biscuit and vanilla bean icecream. I must say it was like hot vs cold. I loved it how the soufflé would melt into your mouth and you would have to chew the biscuit with the icecream yum.

But it all made sense once dipped into the cheese and becomes lovely and soft ahhh!

Be warned the cheese is bubbling and piping hot, especially at the bottom which unfortunately some eager girls found out the hard way. Don't worry if you start to run low on condiments - they have free top ups ;)

Belly Rumbles
Tseng has a ‘straight from the farm to hotel’ attitude with his menu. Ingredients are organic, locally grown and sourced in NSW as much as possible. Pork from Byron Bay, extra virgin olive oil for the Megalong Valley and organic honey straight from their roof top.
Heneedsfood
One thing that most people are unaware of at the Swissôtel are the beehives they have on the roof-top. High above the Pitt Street Mall are something like 200,000 bees buzzing about the city collecting pollen for the JPB hives.
Penguin Says Feed Me
While the food was a bit hit and miss, I think the concept of sourcing local NSW produce and using what is seasonal and available is executed very well at Jpb Restaurant. It’s not everyday that you can sample honeycomb that is produced on the roof of the restaurant itself!

Mediocre and bland food. My girlfriend and I purchased a Groupon voucher for this restaurant. I always try to judge on the full price and not on the reduced rate for the deal. I then decide if I would be happy to come back and pay full price and whether it would be value for money.

The staff were polite and attentive but the restaurant was clearly understaffed. We were pretty much left to our own devices throughout the four-course meal. We also had to wait a very long time between courses. Particularly between the entrée and starter.

The prawn cocktail for entrée was tasty and the lemon sauce was flavoursome.

Our starter of mushroom risotto was bland, stodgy, undercooked and was visually unappealing.

We then both went for the pork belly for main, which sounded lovely on the menu. Unfortunately the pork was terribly overcooked which made it dry and tough. But, to be fair, the flavours were very good.

The dessert was the best bit of the meal. It was a combination of 3 mini chocolate desserts that were all very different from one another. The mini chocolate tart being a particular highlight.

To summarise, it was a very disappointing meal and if I had paid the full menu prices, I would have been very unhappy.
Kris
The food was ok. The waiter was the rudest argumentative, in attentive waiter I have ever had the displeasure of being served by. No interpersonal skills. Got the feeling he just didn't want to be there

Amazing breakfasts!! Could eat here everyday! Except was not able to get a " real coffee" Dinner was a bit bland and boring though, Shame.

Bland Food. Since JPB has just been given a face lift, and also a new head chef, Tseng, we decided to try dinner as we always enjoy breakfast here.

Went here for dinner on Thursday. Restaurant was empty when we arrived at 6.00pm.

Service was really good and attentive, decor is nice with cream and red theme. However, all those good things can't make up for Bland food.

We ordered Lamb Rack and Salmon (and sides) and they both were very very bland. Though the price was reasonable (actually a bragain as mains are around $25), I would prefer pay a bit more for better food. The only thing I liked is their beautiful mash. We decided to go somewhere else for desserts.

Big disappointment. Will not return.

Positive: reasonable price for location and service, good wine list
Negative: bland and mediocre food, not on par with Sydney standard
