Review Button Bar - Sydney

What an awesome buzzy cocktail bar in Surry Hills. Saturday night and it was busy. All the tables were taken but we had seating at the bar where we could watch the staff make their magic. We all thought the cocktails were Super. Great vibe Great feel Good crowd Great place to finish off what was a pretty full day of cocktails and Tom foolery.

This place is chilled. Great atmosphere. Right lights. Nice balance of music and loud enough but you can still hear the people sitting next to you. Lots of interesting things to look at. Great crew. And the drinks. Really pick the right flavours to mix. We go off the negroni because it’s easy to get wrong. Perfect. Bring a few friends if you’d like a booth. Will be going back.

Intimate bar, cozy atmosphere. Staff are very friendly and always make the a good time with live music sometimes, I love coming here. Tried many drinks on the menu and personally love king kunta and rendezvous. They also have a small food menu as well.

Wednesday, 25-Jul-2018. Ordered at 7:34pm, 13 of us, not that many other people when we arrived. They joined up ~5 tables together so could all sit together. Music was too loud, thus only 4/5 stars. The meats we ordered seemed a bit pricey but they were good nonetheless.(see photo). There was good service but the waitress could have been more knowledgeable of the food. The restaurant's furniture, ornaments and general ambience was quite unique.

It takes a singular talent to take dough, cheese and tomato and come up with a tasteless foodstuff. I mean, even cheap cheese has a taste. The nachos were congealed as one soggy giant lump - and not because they were smothered in cheese - and were impossible to share. The pizza was also burnt along the edges and not worth $22. Drinks are fine, nice atmosphere, but maybe don't eat here. Great music. It wouldn't let me upload photos of the food unfortunately.

Nice place to catch up woth friends. The ambiance is great and staff is friendly. The staff very approachable and helpful in choosing cocktails and food order. First time there, but we would love to come back again 😁

Great vibe, a bit pricey but worth it! Will be back soon.

Extensive list of rums and gins to choose from. Service was great. We loved the cocktail menu, trying several. Arrive early if you want a booth. We sat at the bar and enjoyes watching the bartenders make cocktails all night.

We came here for drinks after dinner and were pleasantly surprised. The service is amazing. Even though this place is a bar, they offer table service and the staff constantly checked up on us and gave us bottles of water. They have a wide variety of unique cocktails.

Cool bar in Surry Hills. Don't expect Pirate theme....there's not an eye patch in sight! But they do have decent drinks and friendly staff. The music could do with a change...Earth Wind and Fire covers are never a good idea!

Came here after my graduation for drinks and food! Its a small bar located in Surry Hills that provides yummy drinks and good food! Its hard to find a bar that had a variety of food and drinks, but this bar offers a good selection! I didn’t make a reservation beforehand but they still accommodated a group of 10 people! Their pizza was sooo good! It was cheesey and tasty! Their drinks were also very good! My only complain is that the food did take very long to come out but other than that the quality of everything was really good for bar standards! Would definitely come back!!

Came here recently with a few friends and had a really enjoyable night. Had a few beers and then moved onto the cocktail list which was delicious. Personally, I had the Strawberry Swing, which is a strawberry basil situation and I highly recommend it ! We also got a margarita pizza to share which was nice. Ended up being around $35 each for the 3 of us which we all thought was relatively good for some cocktails and a pizza.

If you find Button familiar with the eye catching wooden bar which is stacked with spirit bottles and rum casks, you probably saw them at Stitch and Pocket. The dimly lit interior of the spacious bar is decorated with a calming large timber door, glowing candelights and black leather tables and chairs. Don't be surprised if you saw loving couples smooching or making out at the private corners on the left of the bar.

The strawberry swing and citrus gin were seductive drinks with a combination of freshly squeezed fruit juices and spirits. However, the cocktails appeared underwhelming with flavours which appeared more contrasting and matching. Try Peanut Butter Colada at Grandma's Bar and you will know the difference.

The disappointing drinks were partially rescued by their toasties. The Ham and Cheese toastie which comprises smoked ham and a generous serving on gruyere cheese between two sandwich bread, was as good as I wished. The melted cheese and delectable ham combined effortlessly to deliver a flavour punch which the cocktails should.

Ooooo yes a great cocktail bar on Forveaux St that you won't forget walking into, with the pirate theme going on it makes for a great meeting place with you and your mates.
Free peanuts were a great start to the evening.
I ordered the El Jefe, which was on the menu, it was okay but the fruit flavour that i was hoping for tasted a bit fake rather than fresh. However the mojito and daiquiri I ordered were fantastic, beautiful and fresh, some of the best i've ever had.
My friend ordered a margarita, to which she highly enjoyed, and my other dear friend preferred a red wine which exceeded his expectations.
Button bar is a great meeting place for you and your friends, and to also have some great new and classic cocktails.

Button Bar's nautical character and candlelit, whisky bar atmosphere is a great spot for pre-dinner drinks. The bartenders master the quirky selection of cocktails or something off-menu (and have nailed it every time). A little on the expensive side so my visits usually only last that 1-2 drinks pre-dinner, but I keep coming back for its ambience and quality beverage.

You can easily walk pass the red door and miss the entrance. Not sure why it is called button bar as I didn't find any buttons there. The service can be slow when the bar is packed with eager patrons. The place is quite small - a few booths against wall, the communal table in the middle and the bar, probably 40-50 square metres if I have to guess. It is intimate and drinks are ok. Not a bad place to chill out but need a little more to lift things up.

This is a pirate-themed hidden bar in Surry Hills, quite cool atmosphere as you walk in.. And they have all-night pizza which is a huge plus, only 3 to choose from.. We ordered 1x pepperoni, delicious and simple so we ordered another. Great bar to stumble across!!
Those Who Love To Eat
Came here on a whim. Was pretty tricky to find it at first. Once you know where it is, it's a fancy hidden little place. When you walk in, and you feel like you are in some sort of time warp! It's pretty cool and eclectic, possessing its own charm about it.
The companions and I spent far too much dosh on yummy cocktails and the vast selection of gin, whiskey, and beer! The photos are some of the drinks we were drinking.
The wait staff were knowledgeable but I wouldn't recommend you saying to them "you pick what you think is good". I'm almost certain they poured us the most expensive gin in their 40 type collection.
Anyhow, had a great time, it wasn't too busy and service was fairly tentative. Ah! The music! I loved it, all 80s flashback with an overload of Elton John that I didn't know what to do with it all! It's almost safe to say that someone working at the bar had a serious Sir Elton John obsession. It was fine, just amusing.
This bar is most definitely worth a visit! Highly recommend it.
Another hidden bar that is highly recommended. Great atmosphere and cocktail range. Definitely a place to get the night started in the right way.

Such a cool place!! No signage makes it quite easy to miss but once you work out where it is this bar is absolutely delightful. Small, cosy, rustic and dimly lit bar with a massive long table in the middle and a couple of booths. The staff were really friendly and suggested some beers that were absolutely fantastic, and I hate beer. The margarita pizza was delicious too and well priced. It's quiet enough to talk to people across the table easily as well. Great place. Will definitely come again.

From the badasses that brought us Pocket and Stitch Bar, welcome to Button Bar. Expectations were very high and it delivered. We had a great bartender. A great (expected) selection of cocktails. A very respectable whiskey (and other spirits) selection. Forgive my crap photos, it's all my Samsung Galazy S1 (no flash) could do. Besides you've got to try it for yourself. Let me know what you think. Enjoy
If you’re visiting the bars in Surry Hills and feel like something with a little more dimly lit, fun and sexy appeal try the Button Bar. I think you’ll like the experience at this great small bar because it’s just a little different in a good way.

Button bar has a really cool interior, it's dimly lit, has great booths for people to sit in for about 6-8 people or has a long table that runs along the middle for shared sitting. There is a subtle pirate theme with the wooden walls, ropes hanging as if your on a ship and barrels and guns adorn the bar to add to this theme.
Monday Barhop
Like most Sydney small bars, Button Bar sits inconspicuously off a main road walking distance from Central Station. You wouldn’t guess based on the name, but it is pirate themed. Usually this is enough of a hook for some people to check out a place. However before you barge in singing a song of the sea, I must tell you it is not like the all-in brawl, prostitute-laden Tortuga*, that I envisioned. It’s more like a place where the richer, more stern, possibly retired pirates might dwell. It’s a cosy patch that borders on romantic, with dim lighting, studded leather booths and decked out with cast-iron ornamentation. The term we’ve agreed on that best suits Button, is ‘sexy’. The place becomes a swell of people on a Friday and Saturday night (like all good places) but midweek it’s perfect, and has adequate berthing for medium sized groups. Dim lighting and studded leather make for a sexy interior. When I think pirate, I think rum and I’m sure I’m not alone ther

Service at Button Bar is consistently friendly and genuine. You can hit the bar yourself or wait a bit longer for table service, complete with free pistachio nuts.

Located at no. 65 Foveaux Street, not far from el loco/red door is button bar. We were at the Crust Pizza event and was going to head up to Gelato Messina but ended up here. Button has an unassuming street front, a sign some buttons and a entry doorway leading into a piratey themed den like cavern of boozy goodness. Can I mention now that service is superlative and I love this joint. RUM! Piratey Button Face Logo. Arrr Black Betty Rum and Pear entry way. Its all wooden like a galleony hold. This cosy bar is dripping in warm timber tones with little nautical touches here and there. It's got that attention to detail that we love about Pocket and Stitch...As one would expect, the service is friendly, warm, intelligent and informative...

Friendly waiters who take your drinks order from your seat and yummy drinks! (fresh pressed pear/apple juice with rum) and decent prices! Cool interior! Will be back!

Cute little bar with a mixed crowd. Been here a few time.
A large central wooden table surrounded by alcoves with more seating. It is dark and inviting and provides an intimate atmosphere even in a crowd. The room is scattered with pirate and ship memorabilia.
Staff are friendly and the drink selection, in particular the cocktail menu is impressive.
Worth a swipe of the ole' hand across the wooden door of 65 Foveau!

I'm on board. Exploding with popularity and for a good reason, this hidden gem is one of my favorite little haunts around Surry Hills. its intimate setting makes it the perfect spot for a sneaky cocktail any night of the week. do yourself a favor and sip on the Espresso martini (made with tequila, not vodka) or the Please Vessle- whatever mood you’re in these babies will only make it better.
Secret Diary Of A Foodie
Unfortunately my partner & I are not fans of the under-sweet, tart, bitter, & more 'masculine' cocktails that are currently popular & this bar delivers. Packed & uncomfortable by 8pm Fri night. My $20 'concoction' which sounded great on paper & I waited a fair while for, was just barely infused whiskey poured over an ice ball with a paddle pop stick stirrer. No finesse. Won't be back, many other little gems in the same area with a better variety of quality cocktails, less sweat & noise.

Some of the best cocktails I've had. Great atmosphere, and some of the friendliest service I have encountered. Absolutely charming, thanks Button Bar.

Great atmosphere, service. This little tucked away bar is perfect for an after work drink. It has one of those blink-and-you-might-miss-it entrances so keep an eye out. The decor and atmosphere is really nice and the waiters know their wine. I love the touch of the pistachios they bring out to your table. Great spot

Walked past it at first without even realising. Really liked the set up inside, service was fantastic with staff friendly and attentive which was nice to see since it was obviosuly a busy night. Drinks were great. Overall good night out at Button Bar.

Nice. Great and attentive service, very nice cocktails. Couldn't decide, so the bartender made something for me which really hit the spot. Absolutely loved it!

Fantastic range of scotch. Well scotch and cheese are the best match but with such a fabulous range, my friend and I could not stop reminiscing about Scotland. Great space. Really enjoyed.

Such a hidden treasure, easy to walk past without realising it's a bar! The drinks were fantastic, we had the fresh pear juice with rum and friend asked for pink lemonade which they didn't have, so the lovely bar tender made her lemonade with freshly muddled strawberries!! The result was delicious. Staff were very friendly and welcoming, such a gorgeous little space, especially liked the booths and the lighting. Could be a great place for a date :).

BUTTON BAR. TOPS! LOVE!. ONE VISIT and its a FAV haunt already. Great vibe, nice and warm; good fitout good people and crowd in there. Pistachios to nibble on while you order. Good cocktail menu - some faves @ normal $16-17 prices but they also have these sub $10 cocktails. Which were great as was the very strong Black Betty I ordered.. SERVICE WAS KING!! The hostess tonight was friendly, took our order and came by to give water once seated. Just superb service. A++++

superlative night at button bar. Loved it.

Great Stuff *Staff*. Went to Button Bar Friday the 18/05 with a group of 7 and was met at the front door by our waitress Grace. Our reserved space had already been taken (mistakenly) which Grace was quick to fix. We grabbed our seats on the high table in the middle of the bar amongst the cool crowd and enjoyed the warm and relaxing atmosphere. The people in the bar were really friendly and the service was fantastic.

The only downside is the lack of food available (except for the pistachio nuts). Grace went out of her way to order food and get it delivered to our table and was the one of the main reasons we all had such a great time. Definitely worth going to again and will make sure I eat before I go next time.

Good service and drinks. I was watching this place during renovation till opening. Looked cool with its wooden interiors, leather booths and warm dim yellow lighting. They served pistachio nuts on arrival which earned a big tick on my list. Must applaud the service - attentive waitress who would check in on us to make sure we were well served. I had the pear and rum cocktail which was very well priced for surry hills. PS. Get in before 8pm, Friday, and you won't need to raise your voice whilst chatting.
