Review Saint Germain Patisserie - Sydney

Beautiful cafe close to Redfern station Alexandria, serving the freshest coffee and croissants! Whenever you get a chance or are in the vicinity do visit the cafe. Had bought birthday cake ( chocolate and raspberry flavour ) and it was just yummy.

GREAT CAKE, COFFEE, HUGE RANGE, and GREAT PRICES. SO CHEAP AND GOOD! I ordered a raspberry tart, banana bread, orange and almond cake with an ice long black. STAFF WAS SUPER NICE AND FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL WITH SUGGESTIONS.

We are frequent customers to Saint Germain and they were an enormous part of getting through COVID lock down for us! Always a friendly smile and chat, terrific coffee and delicious treats. The fact you can get the larger cakes in smaller portions is just amazing. Here so often that we really should have shares in the business!

Super average pie and super grumpy service - I assume the glowing reviews about the warm service are for someone else, not the chap I was unfortunate enough to encounter. Was in half a mind to order coffee but decided against it. Prices slightly higher than the ones advertised on the in-store boards. Considering that this place is in Redfern, I won't be returning - there are too many other, better options both for food and for making you feel welcome.

Have only visited once, but ive already planned my return trip. Great coffee and delicious cakes and sweets. Can't wait to try some more.

Loved by locals and those who work in Redfern, they have some nice pastries and expect good service here. You are sure to please any adults with their cakes, just try them out and find your favourites 😊. Any local would always go back for more! If you're unsure about a flavour, there's smaller versions and pieces to try for pretty much every cake and tart 😁⁣

Incredible food, good coffee, cute lil place on a corner, definitely recommend to anyone who wants a pastry (or two or three) and a coffee

I think croissant with chocolate is the best. And i cant forget that the host(i think he is the host)is so kind, he has nice smile. Hot long black and latte are also good. It gave me perfect feeling in Redfern.

A decent spot to drop by for coffee but there's several better cafes in the area. I would recommend their homemade lemonade, but as for the appearance, it's a little dirty inside the cafe

The very hot, rich and rough but creamy coffee was perfect for a cool day outside on the main road. The toastie was ok - decent range of simple foods, nothing fancy but the prices for food and coffee are good.

This bakery has potential, but it's really not great. The pastries look average and the selection of food is very overpriced. Not very appealing and it wasn't very clean

Never go there. I saw the staffs were killing cockroaches... also I tried beef, chicken avocado baguettes and some pastries but the baguettes were not fresh and pastries were too much buttered inside. I really can't understand why people spend money to get some food from there.
MUHAHAHA
Accidentally found this place on the way to my apartment inspection appointment. Tiny place but offers well home made pastries. A really lovely local cafe.

Love this bakery, cakes and pastries are amazing as I the coffee. If you lucky enough to get a seat it's the perfect spot to watch the world go by.. Well the traffic anyway. Order a croquembouche from her for a party which was a great success all round

I alway come by on my way to work to pick up some pastries( all lovely i must say), the coffee is never the same standard! but the same staff is always surly and unfriendly. Not very helpful, and very abrupt manners.

Had previously tried a small assorted pastries from here so always wanted to go. The display really looks good, would really wish they put names of the pastries. The staff behind the counter are really surly don't listen to you and really are not happy to help. Tried the raspberry creme brule and lemon meringue tart. Out of the 2 lemon meringue tart was excellent, not sure if I want to go back for the rest just because of the staff.

A little corner spot serving Toby Estate coffee and traditional french pastries, cakes and Baguettes. Always reliable and a go to spot when heading to the technology park for meetings.

This place is excellent. The quality of the pastries and savoury lunch meals is great. The food is fresh, has some good options you don't come across every day and best of all is the price. It is fantastic value

I work near by and I can't agree with these bad reviews....great coffee, their pastries are delicious...yummy!!!, cakes looks awesome and I never had a problem with waitresses in there...this place makes my day better!!!!!

Don't bother. The manager at the front is so sour , same waitress who clearly doesn't like her job , why bother being in the service industry.
the food is ok nothing special, and the decor very dated , would not return, on my way to work everyday.

Why the long face?. Yummy food and great Toby's Estate coffee but the lady at the counter clearly HATES her job... awful service...

The staff at St Germain have an appalling attitude to service... Rude, incourteous and unhelpful. With so much competition in the area now I won't bother coming back. It's a shame because the food and coffee is great.

Got to know what you like. Some of the food is killer like the Egg Roll w/ Bechamel Sauce. Some of the other food is super average. Got to find what you like for sure.

It's unfortunate that there is no effort in the coffee..

The staff have some serious grumpiness going on. I visit the cafe frequently and am never satisfied with the service- although sometimes a new patron will walk in and get great service. Mind blowing.

One of the worst places in Sydney. I work near by and ordered a cake for my friend's 40th over the phone. I chose the cake from the St Germain's web site and the price for cake was $34.50. Whilst I was ordering over the phone I was asked if I like a birthday writing and I agreed. Next day I arrived to the shop to pick up my cake. I was told to my surprise that it is 36.50 as happy birthday writing costs extra $2, which I was not advise originally. My remark was that I was not told it will cost me extra $2 and in any other place it would be complimentary. The sales person insisted that I must pay. Then she took my credit card and suddenly told me that cake is $39. I could not understand why and advised that on the website the price is 34.50. The sales person's answer was that prices changed and they didn't update the website. I told her that it is not on to advertise one price on the website and then demand more money in person. Without any apology shop assistant charged me $37 without any explanation of why. She was very rude and abrupt. The cake was not nice after all-cream didn't feel fresh and the pastry was very hard. I will not go there ever again and would not recommend any one goes either!

A little gem - lovely service and place. Great coffee and the pastries/cakes were to die for! There should be more places like it.

Great patisserie food, grumpy staff. Love their egg and bacon rolls, cakes look awesome, escargot pastry one of our favourites. It just sucks they have grumpy staff and are closed on sundays which are our main brekkie days.
Damien
Rude, unhappy, morose, dismissive, angry. How can one barista be so over it?
Mildred Olaf
I have been coming here for years but I noticed that the same waitress attitude is getting worse and worse. She is clearly not happy with her job! As of this it is quite noticeable!! Such a shame as this shop can have so much potential as I do enjoy the food. This place has lost the 'French touch'
Natalie
My boyfriend and I went there last week because of a friend's recommendation, she is French so I was very excited about it. It was late afternoon, but on the website said it closed at 5pm. We got there at 4.30 and the waitress/barista had the worst attitude ever, as soon as she saw us coming in she said we are closing, and we ask if we could do takeaway, she said yes with a bitter face. After that I was trying to decide what to get cause everything looked yummy, and I asked her a few questions but she wasn't helpful at all. I just wanted to leave by that stage. My coffee was burnt, my boyfriend's coffee wasn't hot enough and the whole waitress being rude experience totally shadowed the nice food. From the reviews I read about this place; I suggest don't even bother to go there after 4pm

No Service. The girl has no customer skills ,came in with my friend and were barely greeted , the coffee was average it was late afternoon and felt like we had to go so she could close .
will not be coming back!!

Average. Service is very average , husband and wife should lift their game in the service department.
Shame the food is somehow nice.

Terrible. I bought a raspberry danish and took one bite which was so hard & dry and tasted off like the butter had gone sour. I went back and I askedan employee if it was made today and he insisted it was and tasted different because it was made with brioche. I ended up leaving and putting it in the bin outside. Unfortunately I didn't have any water in the car so I just couldn't not get the terrible taste out of my mouth until I got to my next destination.

Surly staff. Rude service , shame the food is lovely!

This place is great. Wonderful food and very good coffee.

Yes, quite rude service, but the food is delicious.

Won't be coming back!. You can tell by the look of the staff 's faces that customers are annoying, rather than welcomed
The service is abrupt and to the point . The owner seems not to be bothered.
Its a shame because some of the food is very nice .

Staff is super RUDE!. I had ordered some Buches de Noël for Christmas lunch.
When I explained the girl behind the counter that I was there to pick it up, she asked me my name. I repeated it about 3 times before she got it... and then she asked me if I had ordered under my first name or my last name! How would I know as I have sent an email to the owner of the shop?!
Once she came back with the buches, there was no room to put them down so she just dumped them on a client's table without asking her permission... Worse, the client was reading a newspaper and she put the boxes over the journal! Unbelievable!
The cake turned out to be fantastic, but with such bad service, it does not encourage to come back ever!

RUDE, RUDE, RUDE! WORST SERVICE IN TOWN. Do yourself a favor and visit one of the other many great cafe's in this area.

1. After every item I ordered I got a sigh...

2. Payed with card, asked C/S/C, I said Cheque. Girl selected savings... Told her I said cheque and she put it through as savings again! Mastermind then got it right and threw my card down onto the counter!

3. No cranberry in my baguette, sold as Turkey, Bree and Cran, complained and was told they had none left, would I like jam!

4. My girlfriend ordered a quiche which they heated up. While this was happening we sat outside and started to eat. It was too hard to bring the quiche the four paces outside (we were the only customers) it was left on the counter, not even a call to us!

Please avoid this place until they get some decent staff, the coffee is pretty good. But the majority of cafe's in the area have good coffee

The man is a genius, a gentleman and a scholar. The profiterole cakes we ordered were reminiscent of Rodin. Delivered with aplomb, understated and seriously good. Zumbo - I spit on you.

Yesterdays stale cakes served with attitude.. If you like good food served fresh then give this place a miss. Rude staff and bad coffee. No wonder it is up for sale.
Anthony
Can't complain about the food, but the prices are double what you would pay for the same in Paris!
Phil Redfern
Don't like this place. The staff are all surly, the queuing system doesn't work and I once had the worst cup of coffee here. I threw it in the bin a few steps away from the front door. The place is up for sale now.
Luke
Love it. Coffee and cakes and sandwiches top notch. I like the staff. It's one of the best things about living in my area

Paris in Redfern !!. The food is delicious and superbly presented. They have beautiful macarons and the service is courteous .
Great place!

Highly recommended, but disappointing. After hearing that there was a real french patisserie in Redfern, I had to give it a go. Everything seems to take 15 minutes to make. Desserts are extremely average. And expensive. Almost offensively so. Just because there's not another french patisserie close by is not an excuse to overcharge for small portions. I'd give it a miss unless you have a lot of time on your hands. The coffee, however, was worth the wait.

Good Coffee, Bad Cakes. The coffee is great here - the blend is my favourite. The chocolate they use is super-yummy! Good enough to put up with the poor service. Cakes have been hit and miss, miss, miss. My boss had a great strawberry tart here a few years ago and forces us to keep ordering from here, even though we complain. I never mind picking up, though, because I love the coffee!

Best. Cakes. Ever.. Just go there for a strawberry tart, they are the best ever! Great coffee, croissants and sandwiches too though!
