Review The Wanderer - Sydney

Ferdinand
$15 all you can eat chicken wings/ person. So if you have 1 person coming with you, you have to buy 2 set. 1st served was around 150-200 gram chicken wings, you can choose from bbq, hot sauce and xtra hot. So if it’s not hot enough, you can add sauce from selections on the shelf. Check out their sauces as I found those 2 sauces bottle are good enough for me. (see pictures attached) Crushed apple cider was $9, I think a little too expensive. Schooner of pale ale was $8. They do have a live music too.

We had lots of fun at an event here for the Wizards Cauldron. This bar is cute and has a good atmosphere, good value and good drinks. Plus, it's close to central station and transport.

Great fun this place. Besides having some good beer on tap and great tasting food, they also have a number of games. From Mario cart to giant jenga, to darts and more

Came for the Wizards Cauldron which was great, it's a bit warm up in the potions classroom , probably best to dress lightly especially when you're going to be covered up in your house robes. A bit cramped , warm , steamy and just the right amount of alcohol. Great as a group or as a couple, solve riddles and earn your potions.

Really awesome little bar with a fantastic vibe and a really nice selection of craft beers. My friend and I actually stumbled upon this place by accident on a Thursday night at around 930pm. The place was pumping! Good acoustic music in the corner and full of a good crowd of people without being too crowded or noisey. Wait staff seemed really nice and relaxed. Decor of the place was also rustic and cozy with a nice ambience to it. Would definitely recommend for some beers. I'll have to go back next time and try out some of the food too!

Cozy bar with friendly staff and nice beers. You can always try different tap beers by ordering the tasting paddle. Live music is also a plus!

Attended a pop-up bar event called "The Wizard of Cauldron" here. Great experience and staff were present and maintained character! Little fun team bonding or friday night drinks activity to switch it up!

Came here for potions class, was really well done and a lot of fun. Highly recommended for anyone who is a fan of Harry potter and alcohol, which is most people.

Cozy bar place located at Surry Hills at just a stones throw from Central Station. Frequented by locals and tourists both this joint serves up a riveting evening of live music and delicious food coupled with awesome craft beers on tap! My go to food is the fries with chipotle sauce - just like home made fries (not deep fried).

This bar sucks. Worst service, rude staff, terrible food, horrible beer,... Have no words, just one huge disappointment. They hired a new bartender who is so mean to customers, I'm sure I'm never coming back there.

My favourite local! Friendly ambience and staff, delicious bar food and drink selections. My favourite is the burrito bowls and a cocktail from the newly updated cocktail list. Perfect for mid-week catch ups and drinks with friends or a relaxed Friday night bevvy. Don't forget to head out the back and play some SuperMario Kart!

In the old El Bulli site, the Wanderer is quiet most of the time. It makes me wonder how they still survive and stay in business.  They were selling voucher for buckets of chicken wings, that couldn't be a good sign. We went there when it first opened, it was disappointing from the service, drink selection to atmosphere. It was simply dull, stagnant, and uncharacteristic. This part of Surry Hills close to Cleveland street definitely doesn't have the same vibe as Crown/Bourke street, businesses need to pull all the tricks to make it work.

Nice place to go for a casual dinner and a few drinks. It has an awesome atmosphere and amazing food. I loved the sweet potato fries with the bacon and sour cream. Definitely the highlight for me. The buffalo wings were okay, nothing too amazing and a little messy to eat.

Want a good local? Want some good banter? Look no more :). There are a lot of bloody small bars in Sydney now. And some of them are great and some of them are very average. <br/><br/>But mostly a lot of them miss the brief. Service, service, service. Small bars can't compete with prices, they can't compete with location and they (mostly) can't compete with big screens and lots of funky décor. <br/><br/>The Wanderer has the most friendly staff I've come across in Sydney - it feels like an American bar. It's got great bar food (everything is good and believe me I've tried the whole menu several times over, I'm there most nights), it's completely unpretentious and it has an N64 with Mario Kart! What more do you want......just check it out. Introduce yourself, have a chat and try a craft beer from an old school frozen pimpled handled pint glass. Sit at the bar and grab some wings. Ask for some sneaky free popcorn. Chill out and enjoy. This is your new local.

Must eat the fish tacos are delightful as is the haloumi slider...
Monday Barhop
We broke tradition and visited on a Wednesday night for their cider and sliders night, $5 and $4 respectively. There’s no denying the narrow entranceway is trying, but once you’ve squeezed past other patrons once and brought a couple of drinks back to your table you won’t mind so much. $4 Sliders on a Wednesday, $8 Spicy Potato Wedges Four dollar sliders were the winner that night, Ze German with schnitzel and sauerkraut and The Middle Eastern with haloumi and tomato chutney were definitely the better two. Great flavour
Best Small Bars
Small, narrow and busy, this is the place to grab an easy drink. Perhaps one of the best things is...

I’ve actually always wanted to go to The Wanderer for a drink and some food…the place looks pretty cool! Then this Groupon deal came up, so it was a good chance to try! The groupon deal was for Buffalo wings, and I LOVE CHICKEN WINGS ! LOL…so of course that lured me into going… The buffalo wings was very nice…it came in a small bucket, thought it won’t be enough for us…but we were so full at the end! Never judge a book by it’s cover hey? We had a cider, it was pretty good cider! I looked at the rest of the menu, and it’s pretty decent…I would definitely go again…especially when there is live music! One of the perk for eating and drinking at a bar like this…live entertainment while you enjoy your meal… The decor is very good, has a wooden feel to it…

Deliciously Spicy Wings!. Went to The Wanderer for after work drinks with friends and tried the Hot Wings, Quesadilla and Burrito Bowl. Everything was amazing, especially the wings! I'll definitely be going back for more. Staff were super friendly and service was great.

So disappointed this time around!. I can't remember the last time I'd honestly disliked a meal, but this was definitely it. The ribs were huge but the "slow cooked" meat was flavourless and tough. The hand cut chips were soggy (!!). The burger was dry. At least the pie was all right!<br/><br/>So disappointed as we'd been several times before for their buffalo wings and chips, and they were always a hit with us! The chips were amazing then, too. Maybe they just had an off night? It was a Sunday and there were very few customers, but our meals took over 30 minutes to arrive :(<br/><br/><br/>-----11 Oct, 2014-----<br/><br/>Buffalo wings!!. Excellent buffalo wings but the sweet potato skins were a bit of a let down!

Awesome wings. Only found out about this place via groupon - it's near Central station but away from Devonshire and Foveaux and the higher foot traffic areas. Very pleased that we did visit though. The buffalo wings are superb - tough to get good ones in Australia and this definitely ticks the box. Things were a bit quiet when we rocked up around 4pm but had picked up nicely when we departed around 7.30. The folks working there were friendly and helpful. I quite like this place and will surely be back soon for more of those addictive wings.

Amazing hot wings that we've been looking for, it's really high up on the pedestal!

Love this place! The food is great and the staff are all super friendly and helpful. The sweet potato skins are delicious and the schnitty stack is the best! Also the cider they have on tap is great. A really cool bar, nice atmosphere, and great people!

Amaaazing chicken wings!. Oh my, I've been on the hunt for the perfect chicken wing ever since I got to Oz over a year ago. And it finally happened. We got 2 buckets of buffalo style wings and some Golden Ale beers (awesome), and those wings were cooked to absolute perfection, falling off the bone and so juicy. Super tasty blue cheese dipping sauce as well. We decided we couldn't stop at just the wings, so we went ahead and ordered the fish tacos. WOW. I could have kept eating those things all night long.. I highly recommend The Wanderer if you're looking for an easy-going night out with amazing food and friendly service. I'll be going back again soon.

Sarah P. This place was delightful, the chef came out and chatted to us and was super friendly and we had the most mind blowing chicken wings i have ever had in my life.<br/>The Bartender recommended us some beers which I have never heard of before but was a perfect selection.<br/>A really friendly and can get quite lively! <br/>Remember to get a free high five from Barry!

Local Bar Perfection..... There's too many pompous Cocktail bars in Surry Hills and beyond.....and it seems to be catching! The Wanderer gets it right - good service without being over enthusiastic and false, a chef who is proud of his food and wants you to enjoy it as much as he enjoyed cooking it, and an atmosphere that makes you feel comfortable yet not too homely that you feel like you should have kept on your onesie and stayed at home instead. <br/><br/>The food is exactly what you want when you go out for a few beers, snack food done extremely well. The quality of the steak was exceptional (and perfectly cooked too). Brilliant little back area for big groups too. These guys have nailed it, well done!<br/><br/>Highly recommended.

Awesome place, great atmosphere. A bit pricey, but still loved the food. The beers are a bit of a hit-and-miss, but hey, beer is beer. A brilliant late-night spontaneous decision.
