Review The Persian Room - Sydney

Hearty, interesting, home style Persian comfort food. They have moved to a new location next to Pyrmont wharf, quiet but relaxing outdoor seating and a very festive, warm interior complete with Persian crockery, tea and Rosewater. We shared everything and had a great time trying all these new flavours. The 4 hour slow cooked eggplant was a standout, smokey, creamy a bit spicy from the garlic and a bit of crunch from the walnuts. We also had this eggplant in a dish with tomato and egg, felt like a persian version of baked eggs and it was delicious with the saffron rice. We had the mixed grilled kebabs with lamb shoulder, backstrap and chicken. Beautiful smokey flavour and the meat had good flavour as it had apparently been marinated for 48 hours. However, it could be a little more moist. I liked the rice with polo berries and pistachio, good texture, bit of sweetness and nuttiness. We also shared the 'Ghormeh Sabzi', a slow cooked herbal lamb stew. Very interesting herbal flavour with tender meat and beans so it was very hearty. Not a flavour I am used to and I havn't tried this dish before but it had a herbal, bitter taste. The desserts were amazing, I love these Persian flavours. The Persian Pastry was similar to Baklava but a bit less sweet, more honey flavoured and much more pistachio, delicious. The mixed ice cream flavours worked well, I liked the saffron/cardammon icecream creamy and subtly spiced, the cherry one tasted good but was a bit icy. The texture of the persian fairy floss worked well with the icecream.The vivacious owner Miryam was a great host, very proud of her food and full of energy. The food is made with love, the place has a festive, warm vibe and is set next to the water. Come with an open mind and an appetite, had a great time!

We bought a coupon for the Persian Restaurant and were not disappointed. Do not get fooled by the look of the restaurant. It is not a fancy 5* restaurant, but the food is incredible. I have tried the lamb tongue stew and was amazed. Highly recommended dish. Maryam gave us detailed information of the food and recommended them regarding to our likes.

I have never had a bad experience with Persian/Iranian food until deciding to go to the Persian Room (without checking the reviews first). We came into the restaurant early about without a reservation. Even though there was not a soul there, it seemed to be an inconvenience for the owner to give us a table. We asked what he could do for vegetarian and he was very unhelpful. Food that came out was bland and tasteless. Pureed spinach (no meat) for $26 ? Do yourself a favour and look elsewhere.

It is beyond my comprehension how anyone can write a good review for Persian Room. Do these people have no taste for good food? or are these false/paid reviews? Chef does not know how to cook period. Essence of cooking is perfectly balancing the flavours that in harmony create a delectable taste. Everything we ordered had distinctly one taste - SOUR! Serves are a joke, how can anyone justify serving 3 small cubes of lamb in a low quality, watered-down bland sauce & charge $26 for it, how?!? After being ripped off $90 for an award winning DISGUSTING FOOD, i feel compelled to let you all know, kindly DO NOT waste your time & money here please.

Underrated place. Staff and owner were incredibly friendly, we had rain the evening we went there and the owner genuinely offered us an umbrella! The portion sizes are very generous, so the prices are very much fair. A meal with two large mains, a delicious yoghurt side to share, Persian tea and tasty baklava for dessert came to $68, which is pretty competitive for Sydney. Can definitely recommend leaving your comfort zone for some interesting cuisine here.

Excellent service and Food, they always go the extra mile to make sure I enjoy the food and experience and have a huge selection of very authentic dishes. Most recently they've started with outdoor cooking on Thursdays/Fridays which is absolutely delicious and the reason I've left this review. Great work guys! Keep it up - Will continue to be a loyal customer!
