Review Hem Nine Nine - Sydney

Miss Mililita
My fav vietnamese restaurant. It's upscale viet and the best pho! Wagyu and angus pho with bone marrow...need I say more. Also with up to date cool delicious sides

One of its kind in Sydney. I have their beef wagyu with roasted bone marrow pho. Yes, foods are delicious, waitress are friendly and the place is uniquely decorated.

I live in Glebe and there are some great restaurants around, but I think this is my favorite, the staff are always so great and accommodating in addition to the amazing food. This is like Vietnamese food on steroids, taking classic Vietnamese and putting a new school soon on it. I can't speak highly enough about the pork belly, squid ink fried rice, pho and duck curry. Plus every time we go we find a new amazing dish. Hats off to the chef's and the staff.

Having been to Vietnam in the last 6 months this was as good as some of the food we had over there. A nice mild fusion spin on classic dishes, well presented, well priced and perfectly sized. Atmosphere is creatively done. Bao, ribs and the wine list where the highlights Rule 7 applies to those who leave 2 star reviews for restaurants based on food that sat in the rear of a bicycle for 30minutes. (You'll need to actually eat at the Hem Nine Nine to understand this reference).

The super pho is awesome! Tasty fresh ingredients with great service. The tofu boats were also yum.

Hands down the best GF chicken pho I've had in Sydney and an awesome vibe in house - just wish they kept with the BYO!

I ordered via deliveroo, so saying that up front in case it's any better in the restaurant! There are other Vietnamese restaurants in the area that are amazing.

Solid. Bone marrow in my pho. I used the bone as a cup to drink the soup after i scraped the goodness into the broth. Hectic.

Good variety of vegan options here so I was very excited to try!

The tofu gems were tasty but for the price the serving was too small. I think they were under mains but for a main, they disappeared far too quickly. Eggplant entree was rather standard, not very memorable. Highlight for me was the vegan bao!! Sooooo good. You must give this a go when here because it was a light fluffy bao with a slight crispy middle and delicious sauce.

We also ordered the vegan laksa and pho and felt both could have done with bit more flavour. Or rather, a flavour more like the real thing. I have tried vegan phos that taste pretty identical to the standard ones, but the one at Hem Nine Nine didn't quite reach that level. I wouldn't say they were both bad, but just needed an extra oomph and would have been incredibly delicious.

Would go back for the bao - it was so good!!
Those Who Love To Eat
A narrow shopfront nestled between Indian eateries, nicely tucked away but can still be spotted from the street. When it is open, the bi fold windows would be opened and you can sit on the ledge and people watch while you eat and drink, and soak up the atmosphere.
Came here early Saturday evening just as it had opened. We were seated across the bar on a narrow table that was pressed up against the wall. Would have loved to sit upstairs though, I think it would have changed the atmosphere and dining experience.
The menu at hem is different from other Vietnamese restaurants out there and you get to taste and experience some truly uniques dishes which makes this place worth visiting and opening your wallet for.

In terms of food: We ordered traditional caramelised pork with six min eggs and their spicy noodle soup 'Bun Bo Hue'. The noodle soup was nice and tasty but seems to lack a little something, and I think it might have been the spiciness that is associated with this dish, but as for everything else, or was quite a pleasure to eat.
I had a taste of the caramelised pork and it was a winner. The meat was absolutely tender and melted in your mouth, and the eggs! How did they get that so perfectly! That's one dish that is worth ordering here.
Despite my noodle dish, this place has so much potential and I would come back for their famous pho that I never got to try during the first visit. There are some places you would visit once, but this dining quarter deserves another chance. Plus, there is so many other things to road test.
Desperately wanting takeaway it was a tie between Hem Nine Nine and Miss Chu's. Both recently opened, it was clear online Hem Nine Nine was the better option as the spin-off from Mama Linh's. Ching Wings, Beef Pho, Chicken laksa, and Hem Gua Bao were quickly jotted on our order.

Whilst there sadly wasn't much to the Hem Gua Bao outside of overcooked, dry chicken, the Pho and Laksa stood out. Even on delivery, you've got all the trimmings, ready to build upon arrival. You've also got option of adding extra bone marrow to your order. The wagyu is marbled and tender, and the brisket is velvety and silky. Ching Wings are tasty, but not dissimilar to a 'sweet and sour' although the sauce's texture is a little more fibrous and thick. The chicken in the Ching Wings were juicy flavoursome, but nothing something I love so much to re-order, I'll save that space for the beef pho.

Since trialling Hem Nine Nine for takeaway, I've visited several times and can report the dine in experience easily surpasses that of takeaway. Hem have a multi level dining space, maximising the area yet maintaining a cosy feel. I love the Hem Special Pho here, and have found a new favourite in the crispy netted spring rolls. The rolls can be topped with as many or little herbs that you like. The Bok choy dumplings are an interesting sight, with the bases posing as towers filled with pork and shrimp, then steamed. I also recommend the eggplant stuffed with woodear as the filling is damn delicious. Ask for their sate (chilli) oil to add to the beef pho and laksa.

Delicious Vietnamese food with a modern twist! We had a selection of 5 dishes, all were delicious - the Asian flavours are authentic but not boring, the portions generous. Our best entree was the roasted bone marrow (omg...) and our best main was Hem's special pho. Busy place but not too crammed either. Also, not too noisy- you can have a good conversation with your friends without shouting. A really really good address, with finger licking & unpretentious food!

My friend Larah insisted on going to Hem Nine Nine, a Vietnamese food truck turned into a quirky restaurant in Glebe. Not only is Larah Moroccan (aka a rare species down under), but we also grew up together in Agadir, Morocco (don’t worry if you’ve never heard of Agadir, no one has). Larah first landed in Australia a year and a bit ago, and we still giggle about the extraordinary situation every time we catch up in.

A split level vietnamese restaurant with courtyard dining out the back. The restaurant is nicely decorated in Vietnamese theme. There were bicycles attached to the underside of the table that looked cool, but were not very functional. The service was friendly and attentive. The food was nice, serving traditional Vietnamese dishes with a modern touch. We had a banquet that included pulled pork bahn mi, bone marrow and pickled veg mini bahn mi. We had a nice Viet curry, rice paper rolls as well as caramelised pork belly bao and ox tongue. This is a nice restaurant with a relaxed casual dining atmosphere.

Delicious and humble Vietnamese food with a modern twist. Would recommend their Crispy Duck Rice Paper Rolls, Pork Belly Hem Gua Bao and Ox Tongue. The meat is ever so tender with so much flavour you'd want more! Yet to try their famous Hem Special Pho. The only negative is that it's quite small and squishy inside but their service is exceptional!

My favorite vietnamese restaurant!! I like the unique and cute decoration! Bicycle under the table:) Also homely ambience make me very relaxed and very comfy to stay there.
Good place to chill with friends and family.

I had homemade fish curry balls which was very tender and yummy!! Cant stop eating.haha

Pork Skewers were very tender, juicy and delicious. Add a bit of lemon juice made it more yummy:)

My favorite is Roasted Marrow Bones!!!!!!
Acaually I can eat forever.ahaha
Very addicted and too delicious. You better try it

The culinary minds behind the successful Mama Linh food truck have opened up their first bricks and mortar Vietnamese eatery, Hem Nine Nine. The little laneways of Vietnam is where the best street food can be had, and this is how the name Hem Nine Nine (or Laneway 99) aka 99 Glebe Point Road, was derived.

Is Modern Viet the right description for this place? I thoroughly enjoyed their bone broth (despite that buzzwordy name) but found the squid ink noodles a little bit odd. Not bad but just a flavour profile I'm not used to. Everything else was pretty decent and overall not too expensive either.

This restaurant is a bit of a hidden gem on Glebe Point Road. Food is exquisitely presented and delicious for what is a pretty cheap price. Service is excellent - very fast and friendly.

To cap off a very busy week, we took a trip to Glebe to try some authentic and fresh Vietnamese cuisine at the newly opened Hem Nine Nine. The name, which means Laneway 99, takes its inspiration from the streets of Saigon, where everyone lives in laneways along a large main road. We had three smaller dishes to start with – the Rice Paper Rolls, Crispy Netted Spring Rolls and Grilled Beef Skewers. Our favourite of the day was the spring rolls – they truly lived up to their description and were so crispy, with a good filling to pastry ratio, and an accompanying sauce that was tangy, but not too overpowering. They were best eaten by wrapping them in lettuce with a mint leaf tucked in to the parcel, and then dipped into sauce!

Marinate your palate with an extremely tasty modern Vietnamese feast brought to you by the chefs from the famous Mama Linh’s food truck. Start off with the spring rolls wrapped in fresh lettuce, presented in a cute basket plus a mini bucket of sweet chilli sauce to add extra appeal. Continue to stew with a bowl of delicious pho whilst soaking your appetite with the juicy pork belly. Steam with their pork belly, crispy chicken or spicy tofu baos to share plus more (below).

I was shocked to see the average score of this place after eating here and wating to give them a great review. Then think to myself that someone must have had one bad experience and gave a low rating. Scroll down and sure enough all 4 and 5 ratings and one weekend warrior wanna be food blogger trying to impress their nonexistent fans by withholding their precious star ratings as if that makes them a better food critic. The fact of the matter is that this place is excellent, whenever I have friends in town I take them here, it's a great new spin on classic Vietnamese dishes and the staff are fantastic. If you are in glebe this is a must try.

[Invite] We’ve met the Hem Nine Nine Glebe crew numerous times over the year; from the now defunct Newtown Vietnamese small bar Vui Va Say, to eats from the Mama Linhs Food truck (There’s 2 now – such is their success and expansion) and now a visit to Hem Nine Nine in Glebe. They’ve gone full restaurant now with a brick and Mortar restaurant at 99 Glebe Point Road; Owner Peter told us that his two food trucks necessitated renting a commercial kitchen and “for a couple hundred bucks more”, they now have a restaurant. So Hem Nine Nine on a functional level also serves as prep kitchen for the two Mama Linhs food truck. So what’s here? Tasty Vietnamese food; some classical, some with a slight twist. Peter’s mum is in the kitchen here and the recipes are traditional Vietnamese from her Kitchen.

Wonderful modern Vietnamese restaurant has finally popped up in the inner city area. Blooming from a humble food truck, Mama Linh's, this cosy and casual restaurant gives you a taste of street food from baos to skewers, ox tongue and spring rolls. The squid ink fried rice was definitely a highlight for me.

Modern Viet Ninja!!!

Nestled in Glebe there's a Lil Cabramatta, Mama linh's food truck has found a new home! Straight out of Cabramatta!!!!
The food here is traditional and innovative, where else can you get squid ink fried rice or "Bun rieu" ? Also their Pho is on of the best in Sydney City. Wagyu Pho with Marrow? Im sold! Their Ice tea are great with unique flavours. I also enjoy their small tapas snacks as well, the ox tounge 👌..... Pretty cheap for City food! Was not a fan of their ice coffee but perhaps thats because im Vietnamese and the Coffee has been changed to cater our non asian folks! Until next time .... Keep eating!!!! Ningjaeats. This place has pretty good pho. They add in bone marrow to the dish which really hit the spot. Pretty cheap for good tasty food. Service is pretty good there too. The venue is just a bit small. Would recommend people to try this place out.
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
Hem means laneway in Vietnamese; and the motif is employed here to make a positive out of a narrow, corridor-like space on Glebe Point Road.Hem Nine Nine represents a logical next-step for mother and son duo, Xiao Linh Meng and Peter Wu, who have been operating the Mama Linh’s food trucks. With crispy chicken banh mi popular on the street, I thought the Hum Gua Bao ($7/each) here would be a safe bet. Sadly the slightly sticky, steamed mantou buns stuffed with crisp skinned chicken, pickled cucumber and baby radish, were largely flavourless, but they did function as fast stomach insulation with my hand wrapped around a beer.Stone & Wood Green Coast Lager ($8.50) and Dad & Dave’s Pale Ale ($8.50) are the standouts on the short (but impressively crafty) list, edging out a pedestrian selection of wines (and no BYO). There’s more flavour to be found in the Tiger Prawn, Pork Belly and Green Mango Salad ($16), though it tumbled awkwardly off the platter each time we tried to serve it.Bo Luc Lac ($13/4) - presented here as beef skewers with onions and capsicum - lacked

Wonderful restaurant with a lovely bar. The customer service is very attentive and the food is delicious! You can choose to sit at the bar, upstairs and even outside. I highly recommend the Pork belly with 6 minute egg and the fried chicken bao ! They also do a squid ink fried rice that is awesome!
