I love this place but I doubt people come here thinking "Hey I'm craving really good Thai... Where to go... Oh I know! Mr. B's!"
If you want really good Thai food go elsewhere. This place has good food, don't get me wrong, I've tried a few of their fried rice dishes, including one of my favourites which is made with fermented sausages (its sour and spicy, try it). Their noodles like pad thai are also good, so are their curries. However, don't go for their deep fried stuff or the platter with a bunch of seafood, I tried that once and the fish was like eating exquisite cardboard.
The reality is that I come to Mr. B's because the environment is lively, staff are nice and the people that come here genuinely come to have a good time, and are not the sexual predators (there are exceptions) you find at your run-of-the-mill bar. It is also full of Asians (I'm one of them) too, what does that have to do with a food review? Dunno but I wanted to throw it out there.
On Wednesday night, we decided to head to Mr B's for dinner. The place was packed. Found out that their menu changed. There's no longer any Japanese dishes and the restaurant is now called Yok Sod. We ordered their chicken pad thai, boiled egg salad, spicy noodle soup & sour pork sausage. The last dish was not that good. It felt a bit dry and really needed a dipping sauce. I really enjoyed the other 3 dishes. One of my fav pad thai places in Sydney.
