My first experience at Basil wasn't entirely positive. We were first in the door when they opened in the evening and it took them what seemed like a very long time to even take our order. Then to receive the pizzas was another 20-25mins on that.
The service and speed improved when I attended several months later.
The pizzas are nice. We specifically attend for the vegan options. I like the Animal Lovers in particular.
They are a bit pricey for what you get though. Will keep going back, just not as often as I would like/

Ordered in store, however once ready, no names were called. The result? A 50 minute wait.
When we had enough and asked if our pizza was ready, disgruntled staff rolled their eyes only to discover it had been sitting there for 30 minutes. Others waiting also discovered the same, and not a single order in the time present, was without error or did not have an annoyed customer.
Pizza quality was average, not worth the hassle nor the price.

so we ordered a pizza from basil at 8:45pm, we were advised that the pizza would be delivered at 10:04pm. At 10:20 we rang up enquiring as to the status of the pizza abd were advised that it would be 5 minutes. 25 minutes later the pizza had arrived. The pizza was of average quality, and for a family size, with garlic bread it was very disappointing. It just fed my girlfriend and I, and we are no gluttons. I would just say to get dominoes, the taste is about as good and at least they deliver in a reasonable time and for a competitive price.

Mixed experience - the pizza is actually pretty good as you'd expect at the pricier 'gourmet' end of the market.
I would have given a higher rating but after waiting 25 minutes for my pizza, only to find out the staff had made my pizza but not bothered to tell me (I was sitting waiting the whole time), I left pretty annoyed and with what ended up being a stone cold pizza.
I may go back one day as the (cold) pizza is actually quite good. However I will consider the competition first

Excellent service, the largest orders completed within 15 minutes. THe food in all honesty was nothing special. However, the notable use of soy cheese as a vegan option gives animal lovers a much desired option. Their pizzas are an average price but personally i find this too high for takeaway.

I used to LOVE this pizza place. I would recommend it to all my friends and they loved it to. This was years ago however and after trying it again recently I am so so disappointed.
Garlic bread was more salt than garlic bread, pizza is so bland and tasteless that it's like eating cardboard. If I was to hand this pizza to a homeless person, they would throw it back in my face.
I called to ask if the owner was new. They told me they got all new managers. Told her my issues with their pizza, the rude response was "Okay, that's fine. Thanks, bye." So another Sydney favourite -RUINED. Such a sad moment.

It took 1.5 hours for 3 pizzas to arrive. By the time they arrived they were cold and overcooked (the waitress advised they were left in the oven, and still served them to us!). The owner / cook was a tyrant, swearing at all his staff and even when a customer (not us) said you shouldn't speak to people in that manner, he attacked the customer.
Will never go back, will never recommend someone who behaves like that. And the food suffered as a result. Just terrible.

very sad and disappointing experience. not from sydney so coming to newtown is a treat with so many vegan options. brought the whole family this time (10 people) 6:30 booking; food arrived somewhere around 8:30. understaffed, poorly managed, service terrible and my pizza arrived cold and dry. they didnt charge us for a couple orders that arrived wrong which is why they get one star. management also laughed in my boyfriends face and claimed to not speak english when he voiced our collective disapointment. this place has really gone downhill and ill be surprised if it lasts much longer. one table gave up and left while we were waiting for our order, and three new tables cleared out as we were paying when they overheard our terrible experience. wont be back ever again. steer clear and spend your money elsewhere.
