Review Chicken V - Sydney

Yummy with a capital A… I had the soft Tofu stew. It was as delicious as it looked and smelt… the chicken was tasty and the service was knowledgeable, courteous and friendly… and prompt… we didn’t wait too long for our seven dishes but that may have been due to the fact that it was quite empty… I’ll come back again… not too pricey but not a cheap eat either.

We went to this Korean restaurant few weeks ago. The ambiance was pleasant. I liked that MR. Frankenstein near the entrance. The fried chicken was crispy. We had original one. Pork hot plate was also nice. The seafood soup had not much seafood in it except tofu. Well, if you’re a tofu lover then you hit the jackpot! Side dishes were not bad although not much variety. I guess with economy nowadays, it’s hard to expect much. I had one of those fruity beers, pineapple flavour. Quite sweet and not strong alcohol. Good for someone driving after meal. Service was good, fast, efficient and friendly. Would come back sometimes.

What sets this establishment apart from the one in Gosford in that it's actually open; A Chicken V that sells chicken. Staff friendly, food amazing and reasonably priced. Soy out of stock but able to pick another flavour.

One of the better korean fried chicken in terms of base flavour. Chicken is very crispy. The sample chicken gives a good variety but we find the OG without sauce might even be better. The jajang ramen was alright and not overpowering. Pricing is similar amongst Korean restaurants.

Not the best sweet and spicy Korean fried chicken Ive ever had. When eating the chicken it was slightly floury, the sauce was ok I don't think I would come back again. When it came to service the waitress was not very welcoming and was a little rude.

I have been here two nights in a row, in the cold winter, they serve freshly boiled ginseng chicken which is great, the fried chicken is good, the fried oil tastes very clean。

Absolutely love this Korean fried chicken restaurant, especially since it’s open til late. The chicken is always crispy and moist without be too oily. A full plate of chicken is enough for two people - we usually go half/half so we can try two different flavours. Big fan of the honey butter and soy seasoning, both are so delicious!!

Food and Value: 3/5 Service: 2/5 Atmosphere 4/5 The food was reasonably priced, however this reflected in its taste. The fried chicken was good, however better can be found elsewhere. Our kimchi pancake however was very mushy and soggy, with it only being crispy on the edges. Furthermore, service was quite slow, albeit we were the first customers there for lunch at 12.05. Would come back occasionally, however I would recommend coming for dinner as it more likely to be better service and atmosphere

I went to dine in today. The food just okay but service was so suck. all lazy staff , dirty table and bad service ever. in the shop so hot even have only 3 dine in table but all staff have sit down and chatting. never come back again. not recommended for this place at all.

I liked the Soy chicken. It was tender and the best dish of the night. I thought the honey butter chicken tasted to much like popcorn for my liking. We also tried the mixed fries which would have been much better with a little salt. All up I can only give it a 3 with so many better options around

Gross and bland, never again. The atmosphere was good but this was worse than KFC or any truly crap take away. Even the chips were flavourless. Genuinely shocked people rate this place

The cream cheese chicken will always be a top favourite of mine! The atmosphere within the restaurant itself is great for casual outings and I highly recommend Chicken V to anyone craving Korean fried chicken at any point in the day. I love the fact that they're also open until late, so that gives you plenty of time to have a late night snack here. Both great quantity and quality, Chicken V has never disappointed me ! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED :)

One of my go-to places in the city for Korean fried chicken! Staff are very accommodating and food is great. Also made a booking for a birthday last time and they were kind enough to offer us chips, on the house.

Nice looking shop cool vibes. Waiters are not very attentive, also doing something instead checking if customers need anything. Was waiting for a waiter to order more food but they were too busy drying spoons. Chicken first few bites was nice, but after a while you feel sick because it is too oily.

The food was fairly priced and great service. Good place for groups who love fried chicken but be prepared to wait a little bit on busy days (weekends).

Also have some other great dishes (such as chicken and cheese) 😊

This is a pretty good restaurant for Korean fried chicken. I like how they have a six or nine boneless fried chicken platter so you can try a whole range of sauces and flavours. My favourites were the soy seasoned and the curry seasoned fried chickens. The rice cake soup was also really great (and definitely get it with cheese). Happy to come back to try their other side of side dishes and soups.

Very popular Korean chicken chain in Sydney. The CBD store is quite large and the decor is lovely. The staff were nice and attentive as well + good service. The food was priced fairly given the portions of the food. We got the soy chicken and the fries - the chicken was good but after a while it felt sickening + the fries needed more tomato sauce. Overall a pleasant experience and would probably come again.

Chicken V has a pleasant restaurant by the street (except for the toilet, which was flooded) and great staff that made for a good experience. The chicken was good, smaller chunks than other places but very tasty along with lots of shallots and lots of spice. However, the price is at the higher end and the beer prices are particularly high - you’ll get just as good food at Basax for less.

Anyone who has been, or from Korea will agree that this place is like a little Korea in the middle of Sydney CBD. This place perfectly replicates what it is like in Seoul Korea. Whether you like Korean or not, give this one a go and you won't disappoint. Definitely a five star, and would've given more if I could.

Chicken V is a really nice restaurant with a warm familial atmosphere. The fried chicken was absolutely tasty! with flavours ranging from your typical normal fried chicken to a more aesthetically pleasing one such as the seasoned cream cheese chicken.

Best place for Korean fried chicken! You can now order samplers so you can taste all the flavours they have to offer.

They also have 10 different fruity beer for you to try with the fried chicken. There are also different Korean dishes which will entice anyone .

@asianfoodninja #asianfoodninja

(3.5 stars)
Chimaek is a Korean term for fried chicken (chikin) and beer (maekju). It’s the kind of pairing that makes you yearn for days when Sydney had a thriving late-night scene and you could pull up at a spot like Chicken V for a post-club feed. These days all their flashing nightclub lights and spinning mirrorballs only serve to remind me of what we’ve lost. I’m also dining a lot earlier in the evening... The room is full of under 30s arranged on little stools around low wooden tables. The soundtrack is upbeat minimal hip hop. The items on every table are beer and fried chook. We’re lured in by the 9 Boneless Chicken Sampler ($39) that’s presented on the brightly coloured double-sided menu card and duplicated on the outside of the restaurant’s street facing windows. It’s a chance to try a small portion of nine different types of their fried chicken, kicking off with traditional, that’s slightly heavy on the batter, but tasty enough...

Great atmosphere for group dinners, large portions and chicken served hot fresh. Love the option of getting a massive plate of mixed chips with fried cheese sticks and dumplings (not pictured). Rice cakes were quite spicy but were a little overcooked so it wasn’t as chewy as how I’d like them. My favourite was the soy and snow cheese chicken. I would definitely come back for their strawberry and melon alcoholic soda

Late night eat out is always a good idea to grab a mate to have a beer and korean fried chicken. Chicken V always good place to have all of it. Trying their goodness cheesy snowflake and the traditional fried chickens . The snowflakes cheese cover the fried wings and chicken piecies are amazing and delectable. Biting one and a sip of beer, you can feel the tasting deliciously buttery of chicken and cheese combined with the bitter of beer are quintessence . The traditional chicken sauce are also nice but not really impressive. Staffs are extremely friendly and very attentive at time. Recommend 😃

Remember Hawker? Malaysian street food which took Sydney by storm, oh say…4 years ago? Good…so now you have a point of reference in where Chicken V is situated, as Chicken V now stands where Hawker used to be. Sydney trends? ‘One day you’re in, the next day you’re out!

A common complaint people have of Korean Fried Chicken joints, is the inability to order smaller servings of Chicken. Thus when dining in a small group you inevitably end up only trying a flavour or two, or at worse end up having 10 big pieces of chicken each, all of the same flavour- leaving you with no appetite or stomach space to try anything else. Boring!

But Chicken V solves this first world problem! Let me introduce to you their ‘9 Sampler’, offering to you all 9 flavours in moderation, so that in one sitting you can try every flavour on offer! Imagine that, it’ll be like going to Gelato Messina and trying all 40 flavours a teaspoon at a time; or going to Zumbo’s and having one of each Macaron flavour, one mini Macaron after another! Interesting concept hey? The premium for this experience, being $8 more than the cost of a full-size plate of one single flavour (that is around 25% more). **Note: They also do half-and-half.

The 9 flavours Chicken V had on their menu were: Crazy hot, Traditional, Honey butter, Curry, Soy, Seasoned, Onion, Shallot, and Snow flake.

And as we waited for our food, we took in the décor of the restaurant. There was a Spiderman soft toy dangling from the ceiling, a poster of the green Hulk on one wall, and if you can read Korean sub-titles you could fully immerse yourself in the Marvel movie which was being shown (muted) on the flat screens (this arvo it was Ant-Man). So that was a little bit quirky and different. And we also enjoyed the Korean pop-playlist, one artist sounded like a Korean Ed Sheeran. Haaha. Although the tables were a bit squishy, they were set for four and we had to reposition the wooden stools which we weren’t using, to give ourselves some more space around the table.

When our KFC arrived, the trays (there were three) took up almost the entire table. And to wash it all down, we tried one of their fruit beers, opting for the pomegranate flavour.

Why I was so excited (and you can tell from my re-telling), was that we’ve eaten a fair share of our KFC over the years, but we’ve still never tried Honey Butter, Curry, “Seasoned”, nor Onion, so given that the Sampler offered us between 5-8 pieces of each flavour, thus at a minimum we had 50 pieces of chicken shared between 2. Woohoo! Before you accuse me of being a glutton, each piece was sized just right to fit whole into your mouth. Picture irregular shaped chicken nugs, or large pieces of popcorn chicken. Thus the crunchy batter ratio to tender moist chicken flesh was high, which meant more crunch per munch, and no bones! Yay!

The stand-out flavours for us were Curry, Onion, Snow flake, and Crazy hot…. Crazy hot because it was pretty crazy hot! If you’re familiar with your usual KFC offerings, you can picture the fried chicken coated in a thick layer of sauce where the entire piece of fried chicken was probably dipped in a vat of sauce. But at Chicken V, each flavour had the same base fried batter, but instead only drizzling the different sauces onto the cooked fried chicken. Thus on the positive side, each morsel of chicken was crunchy right through to the last piece we consumed like an hour after we first started. But on the flip side, the flavours weren’t as intense as other KFC joints, that being a good thing, as even just a drizzle of the Crazy hot sauce was enough to initiate a chilli-induced runny nose. **Note, if the majority of your group wanted chicken, but you felt like something else than fried bird, don’t despair as they also serve ramen, stews, stone pots, and hot plates. +Pay cash and get $2 off the bill.

Our end verdict, 3.5 stars (1.5 star on the napkin test = box of cheap facial tissues), we loved the fact that we were able to ‘eat the entire KFC board’ in one sitting, however it didn’t have the same explosion of flavours as Sparrow’s Mill or Red pepper (our benchmark for KFC). But I can see the venue’s appeal as a Uni crowd’s hang-out, with fried chicken, beers, good music and front row seats to some Marvel flicks! Pretty good combo hey? Ah, to be young again…

Great atmosphere and fantastic staff/service. We got the Seasoned Seasoned Chicken and it was beyond amazing (what is in that sauce ❤). The flavoured beers are off the charts. Definitely coming here again! 5/5

really nice korean fried chicken place. the chicken was not overly oily or salty. ordered 3 flavours; snow cheese, traditional and regular. All had distinct and nice flavours not too sickening. service was fast and straightforward. prices were decent although did not have side dishes like kimchi or salads like other korean chicken places.

Great chicken and cheese, and fried boneless chicken (love snow cheeeeez). Highly recommend going with a group of people so you can order a variety of items on the menu. Strawberry soju was delicious.

I remember meeting the owner of ChickenV and he told me how he incorporated his love for the Korean superhero Taekwon V, with his love for chicken.
Like his interests and inspiration to start a business, I can only describe the menu as ‘creative’.
Chicken V have over 9 fried chicken flavours and numerous flavoured beers. The allover ambiance is welcoming and cosy.
It’s pretty much your go-to place for a night out with mates, or a simple feed.

Can’t go wrong with Chicken V! One of my favourite 치맥 places! Prices very reasonable for a casual meal! Been to all three franchises and always satisfied!

I went here for lunch and they have the lunch special. The food was good and will comeback again next time. This place was okay. Have good price to drink soju before 5pm.

Really enjoyed the food but the service was just a complete let down. Ordering food was difficult and they forgot orders we made. They moved me and my group of friends to another table.. just fit a party of people who overbooked. Just unpleasant in terms of service but the food is tasty.
