Review Calla - Sydney

Leana Copeland
Such amazingly delicious sandwiches and the chips were the best I have ever had! The chips area so crispy it’s like they are double or triple fried! The sandwiches are very generous with such super fresh and delicious bread! The service was also super good, they were really nice and attentive. I really can’t wait to go back here and could not recommend it more if what you’re looking for is a decent sandwich and casual place for lunch!

Very nice surprise of finding out how good a piece of plain croissant can be, especially when it’s still fresh out of oven! Combination of crisp outside and subtle sweetness spreads in your mouth will make you think it was really worth getting up early.

Calla delivers again. Best fresh bread in Pyrmont. Great coffee and food.

Love love love their croissants! The only place I've found in Sydney that does croissants egg free, and they're bloody incredible! Easy ambiance and friendly staff. It's my new weekend brunch spot closer to home!

The best sandwiches in Sydney. A hidden gem in Pyrmont. Fantastic service, great team and the freshest, softest sour dough bread I've ever had.

Their sandwiches/ Toasties are DELICIOUS. My photos don’t do justice to the food. This is a humble cafe, no eatable flowers or fairy floss Instagram stuff, JUST yummy food on classy ceramic plates. 👫🏻my favorite way to enjoy the food here is to swap half of the sandwich with my partner, so you get 2/2. 👍the American burger sandwich- juicy patties, very thin pickles, and cheese, bacon and sauce. 👍Very mushroom sandwich: red wine jus, chives, cheese and mushrooms, balanced and delicious. ☕️❤️The cute coffee mug.

In a rather nondescript apartment building sits this lovely lightfilled cafe with a beautiful fit out. Great Mecca coffee and excellent food. Outdoor tables overlooking a pleasant square, so great for kids/prams too.

Super tasty food for what might look like a pretty simple menu. The mushrooms are very good and so is the salmon. The kids eggs and sausages are quite a large portion. Overall great place and good coffee. Would recommend!

Food certainly lived up to the reputation. Presentation is great along with the flavours. Portion sizes are impressive for the price. One of the better value breakfast’s I have come across in some time.
Coffee was ok. A little bitter I thought and lacking a creme. No table service was a surprise but not a tragedy given the pleasant indoor or outdoor seating areas.
Good cafe all around and look forward to a follow up visit now the bookmark is finally ticked off.

This is the highest quality food and 5 stars. Perhaps for the ave joe they might be more use to in ur face standard bfast flavours. The amazement of calla is in the subtlety, super high quality ingredients and clean and creative combinations.

Good, modest menu with flavoursome food. Food and location are the focus. Attentive but not intrusive wait staff

The food and the service here are absolutely amazing! It's not your basic breakfast or lunch food thats found at all cafes and restaurants. It's adventurous, exciting and really delicious! If you want to take your palette on a journey through flavour, you really need to visit this place. We drive all the way from Castle Hill to eat here. Definitely worth the visit. Highly recommend it.
The salmon terrine, the breakfast risotto, the truffle pasta and the breakfast brulee are mouthwatering. The brulee is perfectly balanced, not sweet and not savoury, I get it every single time as a side dish to our mains. Do yourself a favour and try their food and judge it for yourself. I only just started using Zomato, my reviews are predominantly on TripAdvisor and Google.

So Calla, to make a short story shorter - it’s all hidden and no gem :) okay maybe that was a bit harsh but it does have a nice ring to it no?

So the savoury dishes were pretty good, there’s some interesting ideas here that made us revisit the humble bruschetta and hash. The sweet on the other hand was just off, the rhubarb, pear and “bird food” loved it but the brûlée itself we couldn’t see being a breakfast thing. It was just a lot of sweet on sweet on sweet and yes while it’s what a brûlée is, it just wasn’t breakfast - maybe a breakfast bread and butter instead?

Look we’d prefer to give this place a 3.5 but sadly it’s still closer to 3 and not a 4.

Maybe we’ll come back for a lunch? Not soon but it’s on the list of “why not try again?”.

A recent addition to the dining scene in Pyrmont, this cafe is hidden away under an apartment building.

The service here is delightful and intuitive to our needs. It was a rainy day and whilst we were asked if we wanted to sit inside we braved the cold The chose a table outside.

There were a few of us dining so we decided we wanted to share some of the breakfast dishes so we had no fomo. We started off with some coffees and they were a pretty good blend. We ordered the Scrambled Eggs which came with sausages and mushroom relish on top of sourdough toast. It was standard fare. Next was the Mixed Heirloom Tomatoes. Accompanied by garlic purée, ricotta, and basil, it was tasty but slightly spicy due to the fermented chill. The tomatoes could’ve been diced a bit smaller for better mouth feel. Zucchini slice was a simple dish and had a nice flavour to it with the goats cheese, avo, and mushroom. The highlight for us was the Sautéed Mixed Mushrooms with walnut purée and sherry caramel. Wonderful blend of savoury and sweet, it balanced it out just right and was moreish. Got sides of bacon to make the meal more meaty. Finished off with Watermelon, Coconut Yoghurt & Granola. Lovely blend of creamy and crunchy. All the dishes are beautifully presented.

Great coffee and the breakfast was tasty. We tried the Salmon Terrine and the Scrambled eggs with house made pork sausages. SO GOOD! Serving sizes were large for those two dishes.
Kid friendly location with John Square (large open space) just adjacent to the outdoor seating area.
We will be back to try the other items for sure!
