Always love visiting if I'm nearby and trying one (or two) of the weekly flavours. Fast service and there is some seating available outside.
The Messina HQ is in a good location because you can easily find parking.
As always, Messina is consistently serving up amazing gelato and interesting specials. The guy who served us was pretty clueless though so by the time he finished scooping our gelato orders...our gelato already started to melt a fair bit

Messina Ice cream is one of my favourite of all time!
There is always a line at this store, because it’s the location where all of the ingredients for all Messina products come from!
FOOD
There are always very unique & seasonal flavours. No matter what your preference of flavour is, you’ll always find something you like!
The service is very efficient for the long lines & number of people tasting flavours before they purchase a treat
We love all the flavours, the relaxed outdoor seating, and the regular specials. Service is fast so don't be put off by the queue (if there is one).
If you need to find a gelato shop in Rosebery, this is it. Selling various kinds of flavors with three or four specials every week, there must be one flavor that suits you. I have tried ten so far, and some of them were absolutely good. For people who don’t wanna go wrong, try the regular ones like tiramisu, apple pie, salted coconut & mango sorbet. Italian nougat and pear rhubarb are good choices as well. For special flavor, I strongly recommend this week’s messy Juliette, which was undoubtedly outstanding!
Gelato Messina's HQ in Rosebery has a nice shop and the service was better than I've encountered at the other stores. Very smooth and creamy gelato, some of the best in Sydney, although with a flavour like tiramisu, I'd prefer it with more bits in it. Like other Messina outlets, the gelato here is kept very very soft - even in winter, it starts dripping as soon as you leave the store and in summer I don't think it's really suitable for takeaway at all. You won't be disappointed if you eat in, though.
I love how this Messina HQ is tucked away in a quiet suburban street corner (if I lived in Rosebery I would probably be here every day!) you can watch them through the glass windows making the fresh gelato! Always amazing creative special flavours plus all your classic gelato flavours as well. Not much seating but there are some stools outside the car park.
Messina had a mr miyagi x messina collaboration! The venue had a nice set up with limited seating. It was basically a pop up next to the messina store. The hot dogs were absolutely delicious! The bun was soo soft and in proportion with the fillings. Soft shell crab tacos was the stand out! Very flavourful! Can’t go wrong with mixing up the textures, from some soft stuffed rice with some crunchy tacos and the crispy soft shell crab. Lychee soda was unique, that it had some lychee jelly inside the soda - very tasty! The fries were ok, didn’t taste anything like wasabi. The portions were quite small for the price that you pay. So it is quite expensive. But otherwise, was a good experience.
Truffle Wagyu Beef : 😍 Amazing
Crunchy Tonkatsu : 😁 Great
Tempura Tofu Beetroot : 😍 Amazing
Spider Crab Taco : 😍 Amazing
Mr. M’s Wasabi Fries : 😍 Amazing
Easy Cheesy Japanesy : 😁 Great
Lychee Soda : 😁 Great
Raspberry Soda : 😁 Great
So. Bloody. Good. Waiting line was so long but so worth it. Hands down loved the Crab Taco. It was unique, different and delicious. The fries were even one of my favourites. The dessert was a little bit odd for me. I didn’t think the gelato flavour on top of the cheese tart complimented well together but that’s just my own opinion.
Messina eats x wonderbao was wonderful, I miss it! The baos were so jooci 👅💦☔️ and the mango pancakes were the bomb 🔥☄️💥 defs try it out if/when it’s on again!
Gelato Messina is hands down the best gelato in town! They have their standard line-up of flavours but you really need to try the daily/weekly specials! These things smack you for a home run!
So, we grabbed this week’s specials because they made us drool. AB’S PACKET MIX (5/5) was a malted peanut butter cheesecake gelato with milo, smoked chocolate fudge and pretzel crunch. You could taste every flavour and every chunk! The fudge, the pretzels, the peanut butter… My GOD! JUST LIKE A MILKSHAKE (5/5) was coco pops cereal milk gelato with coco pop clusters. As I sat scoffing gelato into my face, gazing at the rainbow Messina sign (awesome work Messina!), spoon in hand, rocking a big grin just like a kid watching cartoons on a Saturday morning – that’s how this gelato makes you feel!
The staff are always friendly and the flavours are amazing! Try it, we’re back every fortnight, or when there’s an awesome flavour special that comes out… so every week! Yes, back next week! Yiiieeewww!

This is messina Creative recipe to start night noodle market.. onigiri and katsu sandwich that I order are So yum!! The onigiri based on pistachio n Green tea Ice Cream coated with white choc rice krispies.. the katsu sandwich is based on deep fried Ice Cream coated with Red velvet raspberries, lime and beead crumbed
I've always loved the ice cream at Messina and they are one of my go to when I want ice cream. They are definitely one of the best ice cream parlours in Sydney. There is always a great selection of flavours and new ones that they introduce, highlighting their creativity in ice cream.
The Messina at Rosebery looks dodgy at night as there isn't much street lights. However, when you head out to the back, it is quite lively with people sitting down in a group and eating ice cream whilst chatting. When you come 30 minutes till close, expect there to be a lot of people and a line.
We got two different flavours that we haven't gotten before:
•Nicky's glasses - salted caramel & coffee (one of my favourite flavours)
•Mr potato head - peanut butter with white chocolate covered potato chips (very good, will order this from time to time)
We also tried a thick shake, you could choose any ice cream flavour you want for the shake. It was kind of expensive and we picked choc mint. Bad choice for the thick shake as it was watery and it tasted like there were fresh mint leaves thrown into the shake. Stick with the ice cream.
I am a gelato junky. Was getting a little jaded lately coz all the gelato started tasting the same. Then I came across Messina at Parramatta and my tastebuds were doing somersaults. Went to Rosebery the other day and had a choc hazelnut tiramisu. I can't remember the last time gelato put a smile on my face but this one did. The best. Trust me I'm Italian. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that no Messina that I have come across has tables or chairs to relax a bit. Rosebery at least has a brick fence.

Is it too high of a call to say they are THE BEST Gelato in all of Sydney, we don’t think so. We visit Messina on a regular basis and are never disappointed. Now many may argue why we have given a 5/5 but this is solely based on the product that they serve. There are a lot more decadent, creative and crazier desserts across Sydney for sure. nevertheless, what we are critiquing today it the Gelato Ice-cream itself.
The process in which the product is made and the flavours created are always exquisite. For example; you want a mint ice cream? Well then get ready to feel like you've got a mint leaf on your tastebuds, that's how good they are. They have weekly flavour specials that are crazy combinations which we often go to try as well. But if you’re not too sure what to try due to all the wacky names, you can’t go wrong with the White Chocolate & Salted Caramel, the Nicky Glasses, the Choc Mint, all of the sorbets and well just about everything is amazing.
The service is always great considering most venues are always busy. Not sure what to get, just ask to try any of the flavours that come to mind and the staff will happily give you a taster. Follow them on Instagram to keep up to date with the weekly flavours and the cool puns in their captions.
I love that they have a great assortment of flavours that change regularly. I tried the Carribean crunch with lemon 🍦, which was rich, crunchy, creamy and refreshingly tangy at the same time 😋 Great service here too! I'll be back!
Fabulous
We come every week. Great location as it's so close to us. Short queue if you pick the right time to come. Sunday arvo is busy. During the week is great.
I got to try Gelato Messina's not so available creations at the Night Noodle Markets. They included hot desserts that are not available at their normal stores. Wanting to try them all I managed to try 3 of them (not all on the same night of course!). My fav was a toss up between the 'Fryer And Ice' as that was a caramel and coconut gelato that was crumbed and deep fried with mango pudding and the 'Matcha Do About Nothing' which was a milk chocolate and matcha gelato served in a green tea waffle cone. There were long queues but the staff handled it wonderfully.
If you are looking for a gelato in Rosebery, that s the place!! You can feel a real difference, you can feel that they use fresh products. The staff is very friendly. The advantage of this Messina, is that it's less busy than the one in the city.
This Gelato shop is situated blocks away from the main road. Outside of building looks elegant and pretty garden. You can see the kichen through the glass wall making gelato! I tasted Pandan Coconut. It was fresh and light flavor, not so sweet. I got 2 flavours in a cup, Choc Mint, which has a fresh natural mint taste. Also had beuatiful rich hazelnut flavor called Gianduia. I think they are all winner. Friendly staff provided details of each flavor. I've been to the city store but I would definitely recommend Messina HQ.
Following on from our lunch at the Three Blue Ducks, we continued on our food crawl in search of dessert. Located diagonally across the block from the Saporium car park, is the Gelato Messina HQ, which offers gelato and cakes to passing customers, and appears to be the location of their cooking classes. There are large glass windows that allow customers to look into their factory/kitchen where they create and churn their large selection of gelato and sorbets - oh, the choices...
Number 36 was the name of this weeks specials board flavour and it was actually a bit too sweet for me. Caramel and peanut gelato with pecan crunch. HQ was busy for cake orders too.
Hate that this HQ is open to the public so close to my house! Highly recommend the specials which change on a daily basis. Only negative thing is the wait can be crazy, but still worth it
Ps, GM please make more specials with peanut butter involved!
A little treat!! Had a kid sized ice cream with salted caramel. Definitely recommend as a little treat. Bonus - you can pick up ice cream cakes for birthdays - as its Messina HQ there's always cakes available.

Messina without a queue? Messina gelato cakes at the drop of a hat? You can get both at one of Gelato Messina's lesser known outlets in Rosebery. The Rosebery store is Gelato Messina HQ, home to a bright and shiny kitchen classroom for gelato-making workshops and gelato appreciation classes. It's where all Messina gelato cakes are made - that means you can stop by and pick one up without having to pre-order. Say what?!
Messina HQ is where it's at! This is where everything is produced, it's great cause not many people know about it so it doesn't get as packed like all the other locations. It's so convenient too, I had to get a cake one time but since it was very last minute, I showed up and asked for The Block and only had to wait 10minutes for it! The service was ever so friendly!! Love it!
I don't see myself as a huge ice-cream fan to begin with, however have been wowed. Unfortunately not by Messina. Each time I have visited with friends I often leave feeling like it is 'only just ice-cream'. The flavours are still exciting and inventive, but unfortunately I think the Messina name is mostly hype. Even mid-week, even in Rosebery, they are seem to draw the crowds during the night. I would however love to try one of their cakes at one stage, as they seem to be pretty cute and visually impressive. The gelato just doesn't do much for me. Only accepting cash is also a little frustrating.
Cash!!! Look I have one issue with this company and that is that they are cash only. What a pain in the but!!! Especially when the closest ATM is on Botany RD.. I hope the ATO does not come a knocking. As I love your ice cream
Yum best ice-cream, this spot is nice and quick to grab an ice-cream there is no line compared to other messina joints in the city. My favourite is the macadamia crunch ice-cream! 100% will always come back
Had two scoops of Gelato and thought I had died and gone to heaven. I've never tasted anything that good. I will definitely be back and you should definitely give it a go!
Thanks to the Air Wick competition (a while ago), I got invited to a dessert degustation by Gelato Messina! Decided to bring along a friend who told me of the comp. It wasn't really advertised, so I guess there was a higher chance of winning. Air Wick created some scents using food, and Messina has used those scents to showcase the actual dessert dish air wick has based their scents on. Yay for dessert degustation dinner!
I'm not a massive ice cream fan however it is impossible to walk past Messina without popping in for a sneaky treat! There's always a line but it moves fast. Staff are friendly and the ice cream is always tops!
It's Messina. It's tasty. It's good. It's simple. No fuss. The staff here are really friendly maybe friendlier than their other stores. There's never a very long like and there's more of a relaxed no rush atmosphere than their other stores.
Location, location, location. If you are in the area then here's a painless way to lick your Messina cravings. No queues, no stress in fact, at 1pm on this Sunday there was nobody. Take your time and pick a flavour. The friendly staff have more time to chat and recommend.
We all know that smell and taste go hand in hand, the two senses connected so closely if you lose one you lose the other. So it was with great pleasure to find out that the team from Air Wick had teamed up with food scientist Patrick Spicer and his team at Gelato Messina, to conjure up something to tantalise not only your taste buds but your nose too in a sensory experience like no other.
After a morning of training at uni, we took a short drive over to Roseberry to try the new Gelato Messina HQ and sample some of their classic flavours. As there were three of us, we opted for a tub, which is excellent value, and gives you around 1 1/2 scoops each - lots more gelato than a single cup! We picked three flavours to share - the poached figs and marsala, the salted caramel and white chocolate, and the coconut and lychee.
It's a Gelato Messina with extra displays. We went at night, takeaway only with a long steady queue. Ice cream is good, what you'd expect from any Messina (super ale de leche and red velvet for us - great combo even when melted together), but what we didn't expect were the mass of mosquitoes out for their dessert! Think they were attracted by the large name sign above head.
If you have children - there were several groups who did - you may want to help swat the mozzies off. Or dress them in longs.
My favourite ice cream shop. Delicious gourmet ice cream and nany great flavours to choose from. My favourites are Pistachio Praline and White Choc Hazelnut. They also have weekly specials which are new flavours to try (can check their Instagram or Facebook for the latest specials).
My favorite ice cream in Australia! I love the peanut gelato here and sometime it comes with too many sweet things but I still can’t stop myself! The macadamia crunch is also a common love of mine. I love that the HQ does pop up events. The Philippine roasted pork event was amazing although we were in line for an hour twice, as the pork wasn’t for sale yet when we got to the front of The line the first time. Good for folks who enjoy innovative flavors and not just the classics.
Long line for Hoy Pinoy but worth it. Full House.
Service 10/10
Well organised

No matter where you eat in Darlinghurst no meal is complete without an after dinner visit to Gelato Messina. With daily specials (and they are truly special) plus a full selection of old favourites (and new) it's one stop you won't want to miss. It's an institution locally and the queues reflect the continuing popularity.
Busy, very popular and delicious gelato. Ensure you check out the specials board for limited time flavour combos. Bounty - dark chocolate pieces and coconut gelato is very hard to beat
Friendly and helpful staff. Very glad that they offer tastings of the different gelato ice-creams.
Got a Coffee cup, Macadamia cup and going back for the Dulce de Leche for the wonderful memories it brings back.
Some seating outside.
Parking can be a bit tricky but at least it's free.
Well worth the visit and the Cannery is straight across the road.
