Review The French House - Sydney

Eddy S Dharmadji
We have walked past this place many times and finally we gave it a go. We like the decor of the place, the saucer and the cakes on display. The first person we met, she was making coffee, she was lovely. However when it came to the time to order, the guy behind the counter taking our order didnt appear that he wanted to be there or willing to help with our GF enquiry. In fact we were rushed to pay though we were the only customer in line. The service could be better. Overall it's ok, but I would not be rushing to get back here, plenty to try out around the area.

The decor is worth a visit to this unique cafe if nothing else. It is French provincial in style and just makes you feel like you are being treated like a king to queen!! The coffee is above average, but the real standout is the pastries. Both savoury and sweet are just delectable!! I am a fan of the tarts, but the basic croissants are too worth a try!! It can get busy on the weekend, so best for a mid week indulge and the dogs are welcome clout side too!! No table service, but you really need to look at their selection to choose something to quell those taste buds!!

Pleasantly surprised to find they have an extensive cooked breakfast selection. I had scrambled eggs with truffle oil and goat curd on bread. The bread was not great but the eggs were tasty. My partner had the French toast with bacon and maple. It smelled spectacular. Campos supply the coffee beans so the coffee is high quality.

This cafe has style! Amazing interior, very vintage French, very chique. The prices are a bit high for the food but you also pay for the atmosphere and that's acceptable then. There are tables inside but also plenty of opportunities to sit on the big veranda in front of the house. We had large coffees in beautifully big broad mugs and the croissant with smoked salmon and poached eggs as well as the croissant with proscuitto and scrambled eggs - it was yum! The service was good, everything came out at once and it didn't take to much time. The other food options looked great too, especially the different cakes & tartes and the almond croissants.

This place has a large selection of pastries and sandwiches. They serve coffee in bowls and the staff are very friendly. I had the Croissant Tartine with scrambled eggs and prosciutto. Which was very tasty and a more than substantial breakfast. The coffee was good and the food arrived fairly quickly. We also had the French Toast which was very well presented, very tasty, but could have been a little crispier. My only major criticism would be the small breakfast menu, but I expect where this place excels is lunch and pastries. Also it's not too crowded on a Sunday morning but you may have trouble finding a park on the street thanks to the Hillsong Church. We parked at Aldi.

I used to enjoy this cafe on early Sunday mornings before the rush commenced and the small kitchen would start to delay. This past amend however it seems like either the owners have changed, the water cooler was left empty, even after asking two staff if they could fill it, also the washer glasses have been replaced with disposable plastic cups, not quite the same. I had a quarter quich with salad for $14, which was OK but not amazing, their coffee was nice but both items took a long time to arrive. The decor is still amazing, however the blackboard was empty, seems the cafe is understaffed. I noted a few customers come in and leave empty handed, the coffee machine was not being attended at times, so perhaps a barista is missing. Perhaps better on a weekday.

Nice place for afternoon tea. Some cakes are nice but the pastry is a bit thick... better bread can be bought up the road... Lovely decor. Traditional French tea room and comfortable relaxing surroundings.

This place is crazy beautiful. If you wish you were a French queen from the mid 18th century, you should hang out here every day. I like their coffee - although I think more serious coffee lovers might like Sonoma up the road. Grab a cup of tea there instead, if only for the sugar cubes and beautiful fine chine tea service it comes in. Their chocolate mousse and custard and fruit tarts are heavenly.
Sajith Kotalawala
Awesome Atmosphere. Friendly and enthusiastic staff. And they have a nice assortment of pastries. Good place to hang out with your friends and chill.

Popped in here for a quick lunch. It has the feeling of a french cafe, hence its name. Outdoor seating and an indoor area. It sells antiques, as well as baguettes and dessert pastries. I got the baguette I usually get; salami, pesto, cream cheese and tomato on a white baguette. Very nice! I also got a raspberry and pistachio tart. Their patisserie goods and intricately made and look beautiful. Service was fast and staff are polite. They also do coffees and other foods to eat in like eggs etc.

One of my more favored go to Patisseries in town for multiple reasons. Apart from the nice selection of pastries on offer it's also quite a nice elegant setting that has you feeling relaxed <br/><br/>Although I think the service could be improved a notch it's really only not picking as the raise the bar in other areas

Just had lunch at this place and one of our dishes was seriously disgusting.<br/><br/>Scrambled eggs done in the microwave, , no whisking, so a bowl shaped plate of eggs completely tasteless, mushrooms that had no flavour, goats curd that was off and a few shaved bits of Parmesan thrown in a bowl as garnish!!<br/><br/>Oh on a dried up piece of sour dough bread.<br/><br/>Corn stack was Ok.<br/><br/>Coffee was Ok?<br/><br/>Service was crap<br/>
Issac_eatsalot
Very old school! I loved it 👏 I was on the move today so I only got a raspberry and pistachio tart to go (which was good) but next time I'm getting one of their home made meat pies for sure
Foddie Man
I wish service was a bit faster, there is only 1 waiter, orders get mixed up, and barista has to run all over the place even though it's at 50% capacity. Waited 25' for our poached eggs, and they where over cooked and boiled.. Needs to improve...

how I love to chill in at French House- waterloo. As the place is located opposite my church – HILLSONG . normally we spend before or sometimes after church time is here. Loved their almond croissant and peppermint tea the most. 

The gilt edge mirrors, chandeliers from another age and the very Euro feel of its Baroque interiors were what captivated us to come in.  It reminds me of plush curtained windows in drawing rooms while the heavy snow piled outside.....hey but the weather was more tropical with the sunny intensity of what can only be in Australia, even if I am told it is already autumn here. The displays are magnificent, with quiches, pastries,  cakes, tarts, sandwiches, wraps, bread loaves  - delicate and bold creations sitting beside each other and looking pretty. I love the ambiance here, though it can be a bit shaded and dark for some others.  I am captivated by the thoughts of sitting on those unmatched cushioned chairs listening and talking to close friends, or just chilling out on what life has to offer, or merely to sit and relax with people we are comfortable enough to not put up with pretensions one may see in other parts of the Big Smoke.I thoroughly enjoyed my two layered vanilla and custard Mille-Feuille, to me  the Creme Patisserrie was light yet full of taste and texture.   Never mind the sprinkling of icing sugar at the top.  I love this creation perhaps partly because it is not just a chunk of cake but offers different and delicate sensations when I bite in to it, yum.The coffee is Campos but on this occasion I had the mocha, perhaps in  a vain attempt to transverse both worlds on a day when I already had my high intake of caffienated stuff.   My companions did not speak much about their Chai lattes or hot chocolate - I would have to pursue them further on their impressions.   I had been warned before hand of varying customer service levels here, but we found it was good for us though.  Maybe it depends on who was around working when one drops by -  but I am not sure.

Visited for quick lunch break. Chicken wrap was delicious! Just the right amount of mayo and lettuce. I ordered the wrap toasted and the outside was deliciously crispy. Coffee (Campos) wasn't bad at all. Nice seating, friendly service.

This place is beautiful! The decor the set out truly stunning, the food unfortunately not so good this place claims to be a patisserie and boulangerie and yet when I asked for a tuna baguette from their menu they had none!! At 12pm! Seriously?? I guess they don't bake fresh every morning. Coffee was pretty good though and the sweets looked good.

We hadn't been here for ages. But today I felt like escaping the home office. <br/>I had the french toast with strawberry ricotta dressing. Huge serve and delicious. Coffee is Campos and excellent. This place is back on the list!
Laura B
The French House is a stunning little coffee shop oozing charm. We popped in on a Saturday morning when it was at 50% capacity and had to clear our own table. The presentation was pretty and the coffee was nice however I wouldn't rush back.
Princess_Porky
Never eaten real food here. Just cakes and coffee. They use campos beans. The quality of your coffee will depend on which barista you get. I don't like that as I like consistency. So I don't go there anymore. They have fantastic cakes and pastries though- guess that's their forte anyway.
Maria K
One of my favorite places to go for brunch in Sydney... Chai Latte is to die for! Never had a bad dish in there, everything is delicious. Great atmosphere and customer service! Highly recommend!

Do NOT get a soy coffee from this place. My coffee with soy milk was curdled so I approached the barista asking for another coffee. The barista kept on making excuses on how the coffee that they use splits soy milk and he didn't even offer to make me a new one. Apparently the barista thinks its 110% ok to drink curdled coffee. No mate I got sick.

{ _anne_with_an_e // review }<br/>The first time I came here I was blown away by their Strawberry Tartlette and Chocolate Ricotta Tart. Both we're equally delicious that I raved about it and have been salivating ever since.<br/><br/>However, a recent visit over the weekend left me absolutely disappointed and actually not wanting to finish my Strawberry Tartlette, which tasted bland and watery. The pastry was too hard and so was the chocolate ricotta tart *insert sad face*<br/><br/>Food: 2/5<br/>Ambience: 3/5<br/>Service: 2.5/5

Over priced. Understocked. Unpleasant service. Can't fulfil requests correctly for cake orders. Disappointing.

Pastries. Decided to give this place another go. Once came here early just before opening and inquired about when they opened. "Dismissed" is the best summary of how the waitstaff treated me. A little different here this time although as noted by others, the service speed was a more at the tortoise end than roadrunner. Got an eclair and then two other cronuts - the latter weren't as good as the one across the road from Devon on Danks.
Mirrorboyy
Horrible service. Ordered at the counter, clearly stated I would like bacon on the side with my toast. My order came and there was no bacon, to which the waitress said 'I didn't hear you say bacon' and walked away. Did not offer to rectify the error whatsoever. WIll definitely not return again.<br/><br/>(The pastry team was incredibly nice though)

I visited this place few weeks ago with two of my friends. We got there around 1 pm and it was busy, packed with people. This is the look from the outside. Inside, you could see the menu board up on the wall. I gotta admit, they have beautiful interior design. There were only 2 staff inside, both of them look busy and seem disinterested in serving us. All day menu I ordered scrambled eggs with goats curd, truffle oil and parmesan cheese on toast ($15) and vanilla tea. Nothing special about the toast, and I wouldn't come back for it especially with its price tag. I love the tea though, the vanilla is very subtle but still really nice. The toast Vanilla tea My friends ordered smoked salmon croissant with poached eggs, sautéed spinach, avocado and hollandaise sauce ($18), a blueberry almondine ($6), a ricotta choc chip tartelette ($6) and a brioche custard. Blueberry almondine and a salmon croissant from the top: ricotta choc chip tartelette, blueberry almondine and brioche custard I must

Hot chocolate was substandard though, I thought it was weak, maybe because I had a Lindt hot chocolate the other day but it was no where near as luscious. Tart was good, though I was craving the ones from Zumbo where they are nice and silky smooth on the inside but these aren’t too bad either! Can

We can't believe we hadn't discovered this gem earlier. We will definitely be back for a macaron, tart or quiche soon!

Despite the fact that I am so busy lately, we still managed to find time to go for quick meals around Sydney. Recently I've been addicted to Cafe food for Brunch, just something really simple to start off the day. We arrived at The French House almost at noon and we were very hungry. Just as it sounds like, its interior is inspired by Parisian style with golden frames, classic paintings, dark wood furniture and sparkling Chandelier. Unfortunately you can't take photos inside, so we can only use our imagination here :( On the outdoor area, there were metal chairs with creatively twisted patterns. It was pretty nice to eat at this small veranda and the indoor area may be a bit too crammed. We didn't manage to get the detail of the menu this time (it was quite confusing of where they were!?) so all the names below came from our memories... Vanilla Black Tea I ordered this purely because of the word "vanilla" LOL I can't resist tea with sweet aroma, it's almost like a gentle kiss that keep

... cute Parisian fit out of the cafe with oversized mirrors and plushy aristocratic-style chairs. However upon entering the cafe we were faced with another decision making process - which dessert to have? Their flaky pastries, colour macarons or the indulgent looking tarts and cake slices
Louise
All in all it’s worth a try if you are in the neighbourhood primarily due to the terrrace, but would be much better if they tweaked a few things and offered fresh baguette, and some more variety. Might be better for lunch or afternoon tea.
Gastronomous Anonymous
The French House which is located on the corner of Danks and Young Street. It's a cute place, I love the Parisian fit out, the oversized prints and mirrors, ....a very relaxing café, you order at the counter and whilst waiting, lust over all the wonderful cakes and pastries,
Heneedsfood
The Danks Street precinct has a relatively new addition and in true Sydney form the locals have begun sniffing around to see what all the fuss is about.

Last week i come in to try out the steak sandwich, i fell completely in love with it, the sweetness and the balsamic the amount of black pepper and the right amount of salt, not to thick on the tomatoes just perfect! then i come in today, yet it was horrible the steak was dry, hadn't been salted or peppered couldn't taste the balsamic, the tomatoes were that thick the chef should had thrown the hole tomato in my sandwich the bread wasn't toasted the lettuce was soft and when i asked for melted cheese i exspected melted cheese, thanks for wasting my time and money on coming back here.

Not bad. Visited here and had a ham amd cheese croissant and my wife had the allond croissant. not bad. convenient location while waiting for Hillsong Church service to start.

Not good anymore. We ordered a cheesecake for a special birthday. We specifically asked for no fruit. What we received was a grainy custardy gelatinous mess with a strawberry syrup on top and a weird chewy chocolate base. Yeurgh, what a disappointment. They used to do an amazing baked cheesecake here, but not anymore. AVOID.
Trulyrhiannah
AVOID!!!!. DO NOT WASTE YOUR $ and TIME.WORST SERVICE, NO RECOVERY. Order incorrect 3 times, cook angered by inconvenience of us sending it back....this establishment is all looks and nothing more, no soul what so ever. This was my birthday brunch, might as well have thrown $63 down the drain. ANYONE who enjoys food with heart, you won't find it here.

$35 Cake Was Very Dry. After buying a medium cake for $35 you would expect it to be nice.......No was very dry.<br/>I phoned to let them know and they asked me what i would like, so I thought I would give them another chance and said i would like another cake the same. He said we would call back.... No call. After 2 weeks I called again and spoke to same guy... he remembered and said he would speak to manager and get back to be...surprise surprise no call.<br/>I do not recommend this place because the cake was dry and the service was not what i expected.<br/><br/>Rob

THE SERVICE HERE IS TERRIBLE. They need to smarten up their act if they expect to have continued patronage. May sound a bit harsh but to wait 30 minutes for a bowl granola was a bit much. The food is good but they could benefit with simple things such a HOT coffee, water on tables, salt and pepper on tables and even having the tables cleared after customers leave. <br/>Will return for the food and decor but service is rude and slow.
Pollo_pesce_me
Great atmosphere and well presented food. coffee can be improved but foods is delicious good mixture of sauces.
Hanging Bear
No one should ever ask for their money back..... 20 mins for the coffee to come out, it was warm to the point if I drank it slow, it'll be cold within minutes... and 50 mins in, still our order of French Toast & vegetarian sandwich on sourdough hadn't come out... we didn't have time to wait for much longer and had to ask for our money back... horrible service, no one should ever have to wait that long and get to the point where they have to ask for their money back, this is a Cafe... don't have so many tables if your kitchen cannot cater for it... for this place be open when so many good places are closed, its a bit of a joke. Don't bother with the French house, i'm sure other places in this area are much better.
Brad
The foods good. Shame about the service which is almost always slow, rude and arrogant.
Elleke De Groot
Had the croissant with scrambled egg and "prosciutto", hollandaise sauce, mushrooms and tomatoes. It was horrible! No seasoning, no flavour and i'm sure the mushrooms came from a can. Waste of money. Won't go here again!
Pertanja
Slow and over-priced. I've been here two times and each time the food has been average, the service painfully slow and the final bill has been expensive. There are so many other better options around this area that it's not worth going to.

O la la ..... The French House has been going down for a while and it's a real shame. A year or so ago, they've changed the coffee supplier and management, and halved their coffee take-away sized (yet not their prices). Then they started cutting down the size of all their little cakes and sweets, but kept the price. The cakes and sweets are still wonderful but they are overprized. However by far the worst is the service - if you can call it this. Almost all the long -term staff have left and the ones there mostly feel untrained and uninterested. But the worst is how unorganized they are. In the midst of the coffee rush hour, the only barista is serving tables and not making coffees, while 3 others hide back in the kitchen; often there is no one to even take orders; and should you have been lucky enough to get your order in, brace yourself for waiting time. Today it took more than 30 minutes to get our egg roll and the place was not even a third full, in fact it was pretty quiet. We asked 3 times for our order, then we got up, requested (and received) a refund and left. This has happened before. Unfortunately the team running this place is running it straight into the ground - it's an embarrassment and most locals now avoid the French House simple because of how bad the service is. It can't just survive on its location or veranda setting.

30/70. A few products are good. Let's be honest, however, prices are just unacceptables. This is so expansive! Besides, if you have ever been to Paris or France and eat croissants and bread over there, do not even think about trying theirs. They are just disgusting. I would not like to be french and assimilated to this "restaurant".<br/>Staff are pretty nice except the one with a beard, I have never seen someone so haughty, conceited and hateful. A good surrounding and a few good musics are not enough to hide this scam.<br/><br/>An advice, do not even try...
Kim
I always to make sure to visit when I am in Sydney! Gorgeous little cafe with delicious food. I particularly enjoy sitting outside in the shade in summer. However, I have noticed that the tarts are significantly smaller than they used to be!!
Meri
Disappointment. There it is in one word. Looked sooo promising - beautiful presentation that took me right back to Paris...but no taste. Mille feuille fell flat. I'd go so far as to say the almond croissant was inedible.
Woz Ray
In spite of the negative reviews, this place does the best coffee in the area, due in no small part to the fact it is Campos coffee.<br/><br/><br/>-----05 Oct, 2013-----<br/><br/>The pastries are awesome and the ambience great. And now they serve campos coffee which has completed the trifecta. Recommended.
Suzie
First impressions were great but the waitress was very cold. she didn't even give a smile. While we were waiting we heard all the people around us also complain about the waitress and the long wait!! Over 20 mins for a coffee and cake. The apple crumble cake was good but that all.
Miffy7
Used to love their cakes and tarts. I don't know why but they have reduced their size of their cakes and tarts and they are now tiny! It's not even much cheaper! I won't be coming here for my sweet fix and when we recently tried their chai lattes it was sickly sweet as the barista put too much powder and ruined it completely!
Morgan Saunders
Yummy Chai Latte's! Cozy little French feel. The best is when the Christmas tree is out :)
TrickyK2
They've shrunk the cakes/tartes. It was like I was in Alice in Wondetland. Ou est le tarte???
Farmer Shaun
On arrival it was pure endulagance. The day certainly suites the appereance / ambience. It was all down hill from there... 25 mins for a coffee that was cold, and then 40 mins for scrambled eggs on toast. Observing the rest of patrons, there were constant mistakes being made by staff, wrong food given to others and there were even two number 9's which cause absolute chaos. On the plus side the food was very nice
Rophicas
Did not live up to reviews. We visited for the first time today after reading the many good reviews. We firstly noted that their ordering system doesn't work - there is just one register and you have to wait in the queue to order. Other customers in front of us asking endless questions about the menu thus held-up the whole queue unnecessarily, and it took us 10 minutes to order.<br/><br/>We then sat down and waited for over 40 minutes for the food - one scrambled eggs on toast with truffle oil, and one croissant tartine with scrambled eggs and prosciutto. Our overall feeling was the food was nothing special - the eggs somewhat bland and the toast slightly burnt. Only one of us was able to taste the truffle oil. It was certainly not obvious. The croissant was good but overall, we think there are many other local places serving better breakfast than this. And for $32 for what amounted to a piece of toast and a croissant with scrambled eggs, way too expensive.
Glen
The service here is terrible!! We waited for over 20mins for a coffee and two croissants to be bought to our table!! even then we had to remind them!!
AussieGarden
Falling in love. Lovely French decor cafe serving the best croissant in town!<br/>Had a truffle oil omelette and I'll def come back again!

Le Francais. Love this place, awesome coffee and sweets. Relaxed seating on the terrace style balcony and jut want the world go by.
Angela Delieutran
Nice atmosphere. Food in general looks good and good on them for opening nice and early. Lorraine quiche was nice and the hot chocolate was enjoyable but a little grainy.
Ehmbee
I only tried the macaroons and they were horrible. They all tasted the same (extremely sweet) and they were hard in the middle (sacreligious)! I think they were kept in te fridge?<br/>I did like the coffee and didn't try anything else, but I was really looking forward to the macaroons so it was a big let down
Mez Spiers
A lovely place to sit, cosy and evocative of Paris. There are a range of nice sandwiches, quiches, etc but bizarrely despite sellin baguette sandwiches they will not give you a baguette tO have w your chocolate. Attitude of staff to this was pretty ordinary, and suddenly felt more like I was Hugry Jacks. Also having followed the staff recommendation to have a baguette sandwich toasted it came out having been flattened in a machine. Disaster.
Chamberess
If you're in the mood to sit down & enjoy a coffee (or hot chocolate)& cake in a beautiful looking shop, this is it.<br/><br/>Be warned French House doesn't allow photos of its cafe. Just think, antique Parisian style interiors. There are also cafe style tables & chairs outdoors.<br/><br/>The strawberry tart is not to be missed, the pastry is excellent!<br/><br/>The salami banette with pesto is also a hit & sells out quickly.<br/><br/>But my favourite of all time was the delicious apricot danish which they don't seem to make anymore :-(<br/><br/>Try it,you'll like it!

Service was poor. Visited this morning for brunch, ordered from the breakfast menu, my friend ordered the french toast and I ordered the croque monsieur. I was asked to reconfirm my order at least 3 times. My meal arrived at least 10 minutes after my friend's meal, the coffee took too long to come out. Being a wet Friday morning it wasn't busy and there were several wait staff there. The Croque Monsieur was disappointing. A nice setting spolied by poor service . . . too slow for the small crowd that was there.
Chris Wood
This is the best place for a coffee south of Surry Hills, but in some ways it's better, because it doesn't have the crowds (ie, Burke st Bakery). If you want greasy bacon and eggs, this isn't the place for you, but if you are after a more Parisian breakfast or lunch, this place is great.

Parisian dream. What a fortuitous find on a Saturday afternoon. By happy chance my partner and I wandered past The French House, and were instantly drawn in by it's 1920s Parisian charm. My partner is usually immune to such charms but was happy to stop here out on the balcony a good long while and I don't think it was done just to indulge me, as we both agreed that if we lived in the neighbourhood we would be here every weekend. The music was so dreamy that we almost struck up a waltz while we waited in line along the chandeliers and gilded mirrors. The counter of treats was exquisite it was almost impossible to choose which tart to have with our deliciously creamy cappucino. In the end we shared a spanish quiche and a raspberry pistachio financier. Both divine.
Helen Halls
This is a really special place for myself and my daughters. They're only little and love the fact that they can get a pot of tea and sit on princess chairs and drink out of ornate teacups.... I Luvvit!!! It gives me a chance to indulge in some amazing sweet and savories as well.... Bet we will be coming here for years .... Unless it changes

Great place to eat after church at Hillsong on Sundays. A bit busy, but worth it.
Casey Finigan
Worst service in Sydney! Clueless Staff.. I eat here regularly because there isn't a whole lot to choose from in terms of a easy bite in waterloo. Every time I enter this cafe my stress levels rise, there is ZERO organisation in this joint and the staff have no clue. It's usually packed and the lack of clue from the staff causes nothing by confusion as a customer. It can take up to 20 mins just to get a coffee and god help you if you want something to eat. <br/>The staff are always rude and never last long. <br/><br/>The only thing this place has going for it is the food is great. If you can tolerate their level of incompetence and disorder then you will enjoy your lunch.
GregFresser
Tres bien en Rue Danks. This delightful find was choc a block full of people on a late Sunday arvo. The other cafes and restaurants close before The French Room so the clientle they likley pick up results from this and the Hillsong Church congregation. No yahoo element here. Just gentrified people enjoying un peu de France. <br/>We sat inside, lucky to find a spot, although the balcony looked like the place to be.<br/>All food and hot drinks were served on elegant French crockery - nice touch - with the food tasty and the coffee just right. <br/>We ordered the sweet chilli falafel roll and an asparagus and cheddar tart. The pieces de resistances were the 2 tarts of chocolate and ricotta, and strawberry and custard, enjoyably scoffed by Jess and Jen, with whom we shared a table.<br/>Would we return for another fress? Oui, definitement et a bientot!
Mari
Not worth a visit! People who thinks it's a wonderful place definitely hasn't been to Paris. Expensive for stale food and bad coffee. Have tasted better food at a corner cafe. What a shame!
Iheartfood
Looks nice and that's about it. I had really high expectation for this place but i can say it is pretty much just for show.. bad coffee, ordinary croissants and below average cafe food is just sooo un-french! The only thing positive would be the attentive staff.
Virginia Hopkins
The amazing French House. Was invited to lunch at The French House earlier in the year and have returned several times for coffee, afternoon Tea or Lunch. Each time I have tried something different and have enjoyed not only the food but the location and ambiance. Thoroughly recommend, whether going alone or with a group of friends. The staff are very pleasant and accommodating. It's also very well priced.
Ilurvedesserts
So parisian. Love the fit-out, its stunningly gorgeous ambience on a lazy saturday / sunday afternoon..foods are very delicious, many choices, always a favourite of mine, this is soo marie antoinette!
Vin2
Just admire the decor, nothing else.. 100% agree with Anna Hathis. This place is just for show, coffee wasn't too good but the shocking thing it was the best thing we had! We came in with high expectations as the place was perfectly set up, too bad the food was a complete let-down.
Susan
Susan. The French House is great for coffee and their bread is fabulous, but some of their cakes are stale and that is extremely disappointing as I am a real fan. I also find that the cakes are very expensive.
Cristyjean
Let them eat cake!. This place is beautiful. Stunning parisian fitout, sitting right on the corner of industrial looking Dank street, it has somehow managed to look like it has been there since the late 1800's. I don't mind the grab a spot and order at the counter set-up, as it avoids having to beg the waiter for a table (unlike its other Dank St counterparts).<br/>The sandwiches are good but it is the cakes and pastries that are really lovely. Pricey at $7.90 a pop but they are large serves and so delicious they are worth it.
Renee
Looks great but that's about it... My husband and I attended the French House on Sunday, the place looks wonderful, the food looked delicious, the music was nice, it really had a pleasant atmosphere, until we met the waitress who was rude and very sour.<br/><br/>The coffee was nice but the food lacked flavor. I had the chicken and salad baguette and it was really boring. I finished off with a fruit tart and the tart base was very hard and perhaps a little stale, however the fruit was very fresh. For the previous reviews who state the food is authentic, Please I have been to France, and French people know about flavor!<br/><br/>I would suggest that it's a nice place for coffee but eat somewhere else!
Mrs Jones
Love love love. If marie antionette were visiting Sydney she'd definately LOVE French house. Staff, coffee, food, atmosphere all excellent. That miserable, petty woman's review is pathetic, she clearly has issues outside of ordering herself a babychino...pay no attention.<br/>Do yourself a favour & if you can't afford a plane ticket to Paris, this is the next best thing!
Kushagra
Awesome Cafe .... Such a good ambiance, very good service and a tasty food .... seriously love it ....
Jennifer
I have just been to the French House for the first time this afternoon and thought it was fantastic! staff were extremely accomodating, very attentive and really friendly! The coffee was perfect and the pastries looked wonderful!!! contrary to the previous review of which this person sounds like a very bitter customer from HELL! you really need to get out more!!! we thought it was great and look forward to returning sometime very soon!
Karina Narvaez
The French house of Deliciousness. There cannot be a place with a more relaxed, authentic and elegant French atmosphere! As soon i arrived in the morning i was greeted by very friendly staff and invited to peruse the products. I then witnessed the bringing out of delicious trays laden with scrumptious pastries from the bakery in the back and the plethora of beautiful desserts, sandwiches and bread which surrounded my greedy eyes...needless to say i breakfasted with abandon and tasted the creamiest coffee i've ever had served and ate a delectable, decadent fresh fruit danish made only hrs ago all in gorgeous crockery. This is not a cafe it is truly a "DESTINATION"

Wonderland... :). This is just something amazing. It has only been over a month that the little french cafe and bakery opened up.<br/><br/>They are working really hard. You can tell as soon as you walk in that there is so much work behind.<br/><br/>Food is amazing... The beautiful little tarts and the bread... It is like a little journey back to Europe. And great coffee i must say.<br/><br/>People are great and friendly and sometimes a bit lost but it is normal at the beginning - as we all know how hard it is to start a new business and find the right people to work with. But they are doing a really good job!!!<br/><br/>All the best for them!<br/>Thanks for the great experience.<br/>:)

FRENCH HOUSE OF HORORS!!. WHAT A SHOCKER. I went to this place as I have been curious as to what would be opening there. So things where looking impressive with the fit out and Sunday decided to give it a go.<br/><br/>So where so I start. First I am not a fan of mock design and settings - this place being 'French inspired'. Generally it is an omen of bad food, but not a reason to dismiss it because one may be pleasantly suprised.<br/><br/>Alas however my gut feeling was proven correct. First impressions can lull you into a sense of wonderment - but on closer inspection all is not quite as it seems - pretty much like the pastiche french paintings on the wall. <br/><br/>The bread and croissants look french yet they have lack everything french in taste and texture. Hello people croissants are NOT LARGE & SOGGY - they are small and buttery and crispy. The pastries look passable but although someone told me they were made inhouse I doubt this very, very much!!<br/><br/>Lastly the coffee is absolutely awful. I asked for a cappuccino filled to half with milk. The coffee maker actually confirmed that is what I wanted. He then poured the milk in with such haste that it filled the cup to 3/4 at which point I asked him to stop!! He then asked me "is that too much milk" to which I replied yes because I only wanted milk to half way. He then proceeded to pour out the milk and hand me my coffee with half milk. This is OUTRAGEOUS and unacceptable. If that wasnt bad enough I didnt drink the darn thing because it was HOT, BITTER & BURNT - YUCK.<br/><br/>And to add to my disappointment the quiche I bought was dry and old - it obviously had been sitting in the bain marine for 3 too many days.<br/><br/>All in all and awful place and experience and I will NEVER go back because beyond the fancy fittings there is not much else - it is all just smoke and french mirrors!!
