Review Espresso On Sussex Lane - Sydney

Located on Sussex Lane, you can find these guys dishing out amazing coffee (Campos) and delicious cafe food from Monday-Friday every week. Came here for lunch last week and ordered up some cracking burgers, something surprisingly hard to find if you’re in the CBD area. Flavours for both were spot on, and clearly a lot of thought had gone into making these taste amazing. Their new dessert menu is incredible drool-worthy and one that needs to be checked out for sure! I grabbed the Nutella Oreo waffles! The team are super friendly, and always willing to offer a hand with recommendations, or just to make sure your meal is as good as it should be.

Located on Sussex Street, this Cafe has young and trendy vibes. They have quite spacious seating area inside and outside the Cafe. Love the coffee. It’s amazing (from Campos). As for the dishes, we had some of their new menu. We started with Chicken Tikka Masala. Great dish that is packed with flavours, a bit sweet (which is nice) and has a touch of spiciness. Next was the Chicken and Chorizo Burger. Quite big in size, the Burger was also a bit spicy (which I like). Great flavours, generous in filling, tasty sauce and the bun.. is so fluffy! Last but certainly not least: Breakfast Waffle Stack. Definitely looks tall and impressive. There were three stack of waffles, lots of American cheese, crispy bacon and perfectly cooked sunny side eggs. Love the extra sweetness from the maple syrup and crunch from the walnuts. My dish of the day! It was indulgent, delicious and Insta-worthy!

“Escape The Daily Grind” is the motto that Barry and his team go by and this meal combination of salad and juice definitely helps with that 🙌 ———————————————————————— The Salad: Grilled Chilli Lime Chicken Salad. Chicken breast, rocket, capsicum, avocado, chilli and lime. The Burger: Chicken Chorizo Burger This delicious burger has two grilled fillets, seared chorizo, smashed avo, jack cheese, chilli aioli and served on a milk bun. The Juice: Revitaliser, with carrot, orange, apple and I added ginger. ———————————————————————— Make sure to check them out #godfatherapproved 👍 ———————————————————————— #foodbloggeraustralia #foodblogger #food #espressoonsussex #salad #chilli #chicken #treat #juice #yummy #delicious #picoftheday #treatyourself #foodlover #loaded #foodie #classic #sydneyfoodie #yvreats #foodgawker #cheatday #feedfeed #food52 #eatfamous #culinaria #gastronomia #instagourmet #sydneyeats #sydneyeatstreet

Enjoyed this cafe a couple of times during our visit to Sydney. The first was directly off a long flight from the USA, so it was my first experience with Australian coffee and food. Let me tell you, I'm ruined for breakfast in America now. My latte and my husband's flat white were both amazing and probably my best coffee experience while we were in town. I had salmon Benedict and my husband had a full breakfast and both were served up freshly made with quality ingredients. The meal was so good I returned the next day for a take-out latte which was also excellent. The environment was comfortable and relaxed, a blessing after such a long flight.

It's alright! If you come here on a hot day make sure you sit near the aircon because it gets really hot inside. The smoked salmon bagel was good, my only comment is that there is too much hollandaise. I almost felt sick with the amount of hollandaise on top of my salmon. The chai latte was average, the heart was cute but it's no Indian chai.

Love this little escape between Wynyard and Barangaroo. The team are always super helpful and bubbly, the food is great (think cafe fare with burgers and waffles) and the coffee will keep you going through the work day

Great place to come to dayly for coffee and food, I had cappuccino and the amazing chilli burger with nachos and cheese, the staff were very friendly and helpful, I'll definitely come back!!
Food Feels
I went here for lunch for a work lunch as it quite close to Barangaroo and had the Nacho cheese burger and yum, it was super delicious and crunchy!! This place may be a little hard to find but it is located in this cute laneway, away enough from the CBD hussle to chill and have a good meal! reasonably priced as well!

Lovely hidden gem. Was looking for a good burger joint in cbd when I found out about this place. The burger was massive, juicy and delicious. I also tried the chicken melt. Loved its mild flavour and it’s bread base was very soft and fresh. Will definitely go again.

Really rude waitress who got my order wrong and then proceeded to act like she didn't even though it was nothing like what I had said. She then didn't apologise, overcharged me for it and forgot half the listed ingredients for my new order. It's fine to make mistakes but her whole attitude about it was so intimidating I didn't even feel like I could ask for a refund... Overall a really unpleasant and dysfunctional experience which is very disappointing because its Instagram makes it look great and I was pretty excited.

Tasty and quick lunch for reasonable price around area! The lunch has many choices for winter and nice campos coffee. The queue for coffee can be a bit long!
Love At First Bite
Espresso on Sussex is cafe situated on Sussex Lane in the CBD and does a range of great dishes for suitable for takeaway weekday lunches as well an extensive dine in menu. I decided to pop in for a visit one lunch break, keen for some good food with my colleague. To start off, we ordered their off the menu Brownie milkshake with chocolate milk, brownie ice cream sandwich, flakes and whipped cream. This was an insanely decadent dessert, the brownies were rich and gooey, just the way I like it and the chocolate milkshake went well with our savoury dishes.

Cafe in the heart of the city in a historic terrace building. Tried the Maple Bacon waffles, Nutella strawberry waffles, Chicken chorizo Burger and Chicken quinoa rocket salad - my favourite would have to be the Burger - loaded with chorizo and chicken, huge dollop of guacamole and cheese inside a milk bun. Very hearty flavours and servings!
The Brunch Beast

How amazing does this Eggs Benedict look! Its picture perfect. And i can tell you it tasted as good as it looks! I love my eggs and i rarely get to have them like this. It was a nice change from the usual food. And it made for a pretty cool egg porn.

So if you looking for a place to have a coffee or grab a bite. Then check out Espress on sussex to get the fix you need.

Expresso on sussex is located in a lane way only a 5 minute walk from Wynyard Station. It's a little bit hidden but trust your gut and walk down the lane way and you'll see the blue door half way down.

The ES Big Brekky what can i say but it is amazing. So if you are preparing for a huge day, or if you need refueling from the gym before work and or if you're trying to recover from a big night! Then the big brekky is what you need!

This includes:
▪2 x Eggs
▪Baked Beans
▪Crispy Bacon
▪Sausage
▪Roasted Tomato
▪Spinach
▪Grilled Haloumi
▪Mushrooms
A cute little hidden brunch spot with lots of yummy options. Staff were prompt and the food was delicious! I will definitely be making a return on my next stay in Sydney!
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
While cool laneways might summon Melbourne faster than they do Sydney, there are still some tucked away spots in this town worth discovering. Take Sussex Lane as an example - you’ll find it running between Kent Street on the high side, and Sussex Street on the low side. It’s a narrow canyon between towering office blocks on one side, and the Erskine Street terraces on the other. The terraces are a continuous row of historically significant Victorian terraces (built in the 1880s) with shop fronts on the Erskine Street side. With entrances in the laneway, the businesses along Sussex Lane help to keep their historic façades intact by confining contemporary changes to the rear. Sandwiched between Small Bar and The Bandit's Roost (formerly Shirt Bar), who both serve booze, Espresso on Sussex Lane has the rest of your daytime needs covered. While the inside décor isn’t particularly noteworthy, our...

It’s always a pleasure finding Lane way cafe in Sydney! With plenty of seating inside or outside this is the perfect location to have a intimate breakfast or lunch, or bring along your group for a feast. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

We were feeling extra healthy for lunch and opted for the salads and all day breakfast menu, but were definitely coming back to score some amazing burgers which we saw the table next to us order.

What we ate:
✔️Hipster breakfast- poached eggs with avocado smashed wilted spinach with grilled tomato
✔️Beetroot halloumi salad with grilled chicken
✔️Smoked salmon bagel
✔️Super salad
✔️Dragon fruit bowl- pink pitaya, granola and seasonal fruit

The food serves quality ingredients with amazing flavours. From the salads to the grilled chicken to the perfectly poached eggs and smashed avocado on toast! The servings are very generous and all the ingredients used are fresh and of best quality.

Ps the pink pitaya is dragonfruit! Which is a great alternative to a acai bowl (which they also have on the menu) this was so delicious with the freshness of the dragonfruit but the texture of a smooth blend topped with fresh fruit and granola this would now be our favourite breakfast go to!!

We came on a Monday afternoon at 2:30pm on a rainy day.

Interior and atmosphere is relaxed. So warm and cozy inside, my friend said she could have fallen asleep! :D

Service was good, everyone was very friendly.

My friend had a flat white, she said it was the best Campos she'd had. I had a Green smoothie which tasted really lovely and had a nice kick of ginger :D

We had the French Toast with Maple Bacon, the Dragonfruit Bowl, and the Bruschetta with two poached eggs. Bacon lovers will rejoice at the Maple Bacon in the French Toast, it completes the dish entirely. The Dragonfruit Bowl was gorgeous, wasn't too sweet which is just how I like my bowls. The winner however was the bruschetta - the tomato was dressed so perfectly that it melted in my mouth - can tomatoes even melt?!

Recommendations: Bruschetta - best I've had in Sydney, and I am told the Avocado on Toast is really good too!

Disclosure: Review by invite.

Espresso on Sussex Lane is one Sydney café deserving of your hour👌

This cool little laneway café offers the perfect outdoor escape for office workers and the meals here are anything but ‘office ordinary’💼 Head Chef Alessandro’s passion for food is evident in every plate, and aside from having an excellent selection of inviting menu options, Alessandro is often inspired to create uniquely flavoured dishes that are regularly seen on the specials board🍝

His latest inception; A spicy chicken katsu and apple slaw burger with loaded fries – flavourlicious!🍔 Worth a detour from your regular lunchtime haunt in Sydney’s CBD.

For more great places like this visit around Sydney, visit mybondisummer.sydney and head to the city guide - Discover your endless summer!

Tucked into a wall on Sussex Lane amongst a couple of small wine bars, this cosy cafe is the perfect choice for a great coffee and quick bite for lunch. Plenty of variety from healthy Acai bowls and salads to satisfying Burgers and Pastas. Well worth a stop in for a feed. Read the full post at Weekend Notes #seafarrwide

Service was fantastic, however the hollandaise sauce came from a packet and there was a hair in my food. It is a buzzing cafe with great coffee and expansive breakfast menu, but the food itself was disappointing and bland.

The food was delicious, the cafe is very spacious and welcoming, and the staff were very accomodating. The poached eggs weren't runny as they usually are but otherwise the food was extremely flavourful and filling!! Coffee is good and the juices are great :) Definitely a hidden gem down a quiet alley in a busy CBD.

Miss Melbourne’s laneway cafe culture? Now you can look no further than the middle of Sydney CBD. Tucked between Westpac’s Sydney headquarters and Sussex Street, the transformation of Sussex Lane is part of the Activation of Laneways and Prioritisation of Laneway Program in Central Sydney launched several years ago. Espresso is the newest addition to the laneway and also a much needed food venue to lift the coffee and lunch game in this part of town.

Pleasant little hideaway in the CBD. Menu was quite small but enough variety to choose from. The matcha and acai bowls were delicious and very popular. The coffee was fabulous and if you don't feel like caffeine I highly recommend the red velvet latte.
Thewhereto
In the heart of the city, this cafe is on Sussex Lane as the name suggests. It offers a range of pre made foods, juices, coffees and also some tasty sounding brunch and lunch options. There are some different and interesting choices with a Mexican influence. We got the traditional baked eggs which had a lovely homemade tomato and capsicum flavour, just slightly overcooked. We also tried the mexican breakfast with some awesome potatoes which were like chips with avocado and beans. This was yum! The coffee was great, with cappuccino art and I got a red velvet latte which I enjoyed. Service was extremely nice and hospitable and meals came out promptly.

Tucked away a little from the streets you enter down into a cosy little space with an inviting interior and an array of seating suitable for any mood or purpose.
Service was a little hit and miss but once we got underway we enjoyed a decent breakfast. Baked eggs were the right amount of spicy with a nice rich tomato based. Coffee was solid without being great. Bit of homely feel to this place which gives you a feeling of not wanting to be in a hurry.
@e.m.i.l.y.eats
The cafe itself has a nice atmosphere, very large and open however has cosy spaces and features they make it personal. The staff were very friendly and helpful however the food and coffee was very slow to get to us and there was only one other table filled when we were there. So I worry about what the timing is like when busier. The menu had a good selection of items. I was there for breakfast and enjoyed the menu having a little difference to it than other cafes. I selected the Mexican breakfast which was great, eggs and all other ingredients were cooked well. The baked eggs, whilst they looked appealing, were over cooked and not as tasty. Coffee is campos
@burgersnbikinis
Tucked away on Sussex Lane I didn't even know this cosy little cafe existed until now! Such a great spot for a lunchtime escape from work and the hustle and bustle.

Here's what I ate:
- patatas bravas. Such a unique take on bravas and the dish of the day! Thinly sliced crispy potato layered with chorizo and caremelised onion. Such a winner!
- pumpkin smash. On sourdough served with pesto. Tbh I'm actually not the hugest pumpkin fan and it was a little too pumpkin heavy for me, but if you love your veggies then this healthy dish will be right up your alley!
- spaghetti. Tossed in oil with black pepper and prosciutto. Def filling with a big serve but quite a simple dish that didn't pack the flavour for me.
Sir And Mlady Dine Out
Espresso on Sussex Lane is nestled in the heart of the CBD, quite close to Barangaroo and Wynyard Station. It boasts a great outdoor seating area, and plenty of tables. Quite recently opened, the decor is modern and decorative. . Offering all-day breakfast, lunch and now open on weekends, Espresso on Sussex Lane is a great option for Sydney workers, weekend visitors and for catch-ups. Duke and Duchess visited over lunch on a Friday, and it was certainly bustling and busy, with a great vibe. We ordered an iced chocolate and a super berry protein smoothie. Both presented on lead-shaped plates, they looked excellent. The iced chocolate was just the right amount of chocolate without being overbearing, and the smoothie was not too sweet and serviced with some frozen berries as an extra touch.
The Weekend Foodie
We went on a a Saturday morning for brunch. This little cafe is tucked away on Sussex lane. It was a relatively quiet morning, diners were mainly passerby construction workers. There's not a lot of traffic directed to Sussex lane, especially during weekends.

This is a great place to drop by for a bite or coffee, we enjoyed the our caps. It's a proper coffee!

Green monster smoothie was fantastic, especially if you like minty smoothies, it was a meal on its own, beautifully displayed and not to mention ridiculously healthy and yummy at the same time.

Baked eggs were pleasant, we liked that the chef made the sauce but it was missing a kick..maybe some chorizo?

Mexican breakfast was ok, however similar to the baked eggs missing that oomph. Really liked the guacamole but the rest of the dish needed more flavour. Still room for improvement.

Matcha yoghurt bowl was a winner, we've had enough of acai and really wanted to try something different. As avid matcha lovers, we were happy to see this superfood make its way into a bowl.

We heard great reviews for their burger menu so will drop by at some point to try it out!

Disclaimer: We were kindly invited

Mid morning and time for a coffee with punch. Tucked away in Sussex Lane and feeling like a basement club, this cafe is clearly popular with locals. Busy and noisy, with an energetic atmosphere, the coffee was punchy abd balanced.

This is such a gem, hidden in the laneway of Sydney's busy city. The cosy atmosphere and great service compliments the delightful food. The food was fresh and wholesome, and enticed the taste buds. The milkshakes are a must try, the presentation is quirky, and adds some fun to the humble milkshake!
This Cafe is certainly the perfect city escape, within the city!
Coffeebrunchanddinner
Hidden in a laneway this cafe has become a popular coffee spot for city workers. It's always a buzz in the morning with people ordering their takeaway caffeine hit. We sat in for brunch on a busy Friday and tried the Acai bowl and the Hipster Breakfast. The Acai bowl had a great balance of granola, desiccated coconut and fruit making for the perfect start to the day. If you are a matcha fan try the Matcha Bowl for something a little different. The hipster breakfast was a version of avo smash with eggs, tomato and pistachio dukkah. The staff were friendly and the cafe had a bustling yet relaxing vibe making it one to try if you are in the CBD.

Came via recommendation by @clairemcpherson.cpm

Overall a very cosy cafe with incredibly friendly staff- loved eating here! They also have a unique range of raw protein shakes that are jam-packed with nutritious ingredients which are perfect if you're looking for something filling on the go!

👉 GRILLED CHILLI LIME CHICKEN SALAD [4.5/5]

Very tasty and healthy, filling but does not make you feel bloated at all. The chicken was tender and cooked just right, and the sauce was amazing!

👉 BEEF BURGER [5/5]

Hands down one of the best burgers I've had in a while. The great thing about this burger is that it's incredibly tasty, but does not make you feel heavy at all. The beef was cooked to perfection, and the sauce was just delicious. Definitely give this a go next time you're in!

👉 MATCHA BOWL [3.5/5]

A unique flavour to go with a muesli bowl- this dish was very refreshing and light on the palate.

🚩🚩 @espresso_on_sussex 🚩🚩
🍴 ACAI BOWL: acai, coconut, granola & mixed berries 🍴

Beautiful little venue tucked away at the top west of town. They've recently vamped up their menu and the acai bowl instantly grabbed my attention. The texture was a little runny, but the sweetness and flavour levels were spot on. Definitely a little gem If you work in the area.

Coffee was really good and the wifi also easy to access with a great connection. I also had a lemon chicken & avo wrap which was very nice. The price was very good for a Sydney CBD cafe and the staff were very friendly.

Located down a little quaint lane and seemed like stepping into an underground dungeon.

But to my surprise, it was moderately sized with plenty of seating space up cycling old coffee bean sacks giving a genuine atmosphere. Unfortunately, the air con couldn't handle the size of the space so it was quite warm and humid..
Halal Sydney
Hidden gem in the CBD. The Chicken Burger tastes incredible! It has the delicious "portugeese" flavour without being too hot or spicey!
I strongly recommend this place. The meat is also Halal!

Great Coffee (Campos)
Love the burgers
Great interior
Friendly staff
Wallet friendly
Good Salad
Halal

Bad thing is they don't serve burgers after 2pm.
And I find seating to be not so comfortable for lunch.

I would like to give this cafe a higher rating as it ticks so many boxes (good indoor and outdoor spaces, healthy food, wide selection, coffee specialists) but the problem is, my coffee was just not that great. Flavour and pour were both pretty ordinary.
Cinntonic
Funky organic cafe tuck away from bustling world out side it. $10 steak sandwich cooked fresh. Good music, cozy atmosphere, happy staff... I like it :)

Great for regulars, not for new/casual people. After my regular coffee place was still closed this week after Christmas, we went in search of a new coffee place.

The first visit to this cafe I ordered a strong coffee with Equal. What they neglected to mention was that they do not use Equal but in fact Stevia. Far from being the hyper sweet-tasting substitute, Stevia has a menthol flavour, which completely ruined my coffee. Down the drain it went.

Not being a person who gives up after one visit, I went back this morning with two friends for some takeaway coffee and breakfast. Somehow, my toast order was separated from that of my friends and it was a good 10 minutes between when theirs came out and mine. Despite alerting the staff to this fact, my toast was not put back in its correct place in the queue and by the time I got it everyone else had a cold breakfast. My breakfast was warm but, rather than being toast, was barely warmed bread.

The coffee was palatable, but nothing to rave about, proving that even good beans can be ruined by a barista having a bad day.

The feeling I got was that if you were a regular you got great service (and perhaps my coffee) but I'm not willing to suffer for a month to meet that criterion.

Won't be going back.
