Customer service from the young lady behind the bar this afternoon was awesome. It was refreshing to have a bartender who genuinely cares about a customer’s experience. $10 espressos were on point too
Solid place that has a great bar staff, can't recommend higher.
Grab your Balabushka and go old school at ‘The Thorn’. Classic Melbourne pub with nothing pretentious or unnecessary on the menu. Grab a Parma, Burger or Pizza, spill a few beers and wobble out! Food is good, and simple in the right way.
I used to go to this place every other day for a game of pool and a good meal. Yesterday I was hanging out with my 13 year old cousin and he wanted to eat a good Chicken Parma and this place was the first one that came to my mind.
It is an amazing place, especially for students as they have a bunch of games, pool, and they have interesting stuff going on during the week. Plus they have really good offers on food everyday.
They have different sections in a huge area, One section is with the couches and tables and chairs which give a restaurant kind of feel and then there is pool section and then there is outdoor seating which is just beautiful. I think they have renovated the area and have made it perfect.
Now the food. I have always enjoyed what ever I have ordered here. The CHIPS are one of the best. They are thick juicy, and have an amazing seasoning which puts their chips on top of the ladder. The chicken Parma was fresh, I felt the chicken was a bit overcooked but was still amazing. Carbonara parma was fabulous. The garlic cream on top made it significantly better than the others. Because it was a monday so the Parma was $14 which is crazyy. You cant get more value for your money anywhere else on a monday.. :P
Came here for a boozy brunch. It was top quality even comparing to their counter parts in South Yarra. Overall, you wont regret coming here, everything is good quality and value for money. Will come back
I’ve been to this pub on several occasions to have a drink and a dance and to listen to some live music. This was the first occasion I’d eaten here and I actually quite enjoyed the bistro style food, opting for a classic parma which was rather sizeable. The atmosphere was a little rowdy being that the crowd was predominantly made up of uni students but it was nice to see everyone having a good time. Would definitely recommend for a casual affordable meal
An ideal hangout place. Loved the food and the atmosphere. The parma was filling and was on a special offer for $14. Loved the good energy of the staff. Overall an amazing place to hangout and chill with friends.
The chips were lovely!! Crispy with lovely herbs and spices, couldn't get enough! The steak was so-so and I didn't enjoy the salad that it came with though, was way too sour with too much vinegar.
I come here for the $5 pizzas and $5 fireball shots on Tuesday after uni and it’s the perfect wind down from school work before the windup of a sesh when Tightarse Tuesday starts and the RnB beats hit. I love Hawka and will recommend it to anyone!
Fantastic sized and tasting parmas. Chill upstairs beer garden perfect spot for your mates with cheap drink/food specials everyday.
Staff are also approachable and kind! Great location next to uni and a short walk from Glenferrie station.
Great place to catch up and chill. Indoor and outdoor seating. Come on Tuesday nights for cheap drinks, but get in early. Food on special will come in small portions.
Great food and friendly pub atmosphere. Also fantastic for a quiet meal with friends or a night out. They often have specials throughout the week that are great for uni students.
We came here for dinner with our family on a Saturday night. Booking was done on-line so it was pretty easy. The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice. The music can be a bit loud if you are sitting in front of the guitarist. If you want to talk, probably better to sit in another part of the restaurant.
Plenty of choices for beers on tap. Food choices are limited but the serving size is not bad (see pictures). The taste is so so although I did like the risotto.
I can’t rave about The Hawthorn Hotels Sunday lunch enough! This was 💯 one of the best we’ve had! From juicy lamb, crispy Yorkshire puddings and rich gravy to the most incredible plate of veg… roast potato, sweet potato, parsnips, carrot, broc, cauli, beans, peas, pumpkin… I mean! Absolute perfection.
Hawthorn Hotel has recently undergone renovations and all for the better. The place is stunning with beautiful inside and outside dining options. Plenty of space for just drinking, beautiful bar, undercover areas outside with plenty of tv screens to watch your fav sports without being in your face. Service is good and friendly. Menu here is typical pub food, but it's not great. It's definitely serviceable if you've had a few drinks, but you wouldn't go out of your way to go here just for a meal. This pub has plenty of potential to be 5 stars, but just the food let's it down, it doesn't taste fresh or prepared with thought or care. Definitely worth a look and go catch up with friends for a drink, but plan your food elsewhere.
What a great place! I was surprised by the fantastic beer selection and amazing food. Will definitely be back to try more. Also prices are very reasonable and staff are lovely
Thou the chips taste unique and burger is something I'm not used to, it's still an amazing place to hang out or meet with peps and watch footy, I recomand this place, mainly for you to meet and hang out
We went for the lunch special today during lunch time at the Hawthorn Hotel....heard this place is under the same management as The Smith....The lunch specials offer a very good value, I had a Chicken Parma and My partner had a Chicken burger...the food was spectacular and feels like really good value...the chips were deep fried perfectly....pretty much nothing to fault....really enjoyed the food....the QR code ordering system at the table is also fantastic....
