Review Frank Restaurant And Bar - Hobart

Joanna C
Lovely Argentinean restaurant near the piers. We ordered a hanger steak and the grilled chicken. The hanger steak was really good and came with chimmichurri and a spicy sauce while the grilled chicken could probably do with more spices or flavour. Overall, still a good experience and the service was very attentive.
Megan Clark
Great location by the pier. Very modern, sleek decor with funky lighting. I was expecting the cuisine to be more authentically Argentine, but it was tasty enough, although we were never asked how we wanted the meat cooked and the portions were on the small side. The banana dessert was disappointing.

Fancy and upscale restaurant indeed, great views and very friendly service. Staff helped us pick the specials from the menu. The food was delicious everything we ordered tasted great. Perfect spot for a business meal or visiting with friends.

Dining at Frank was wonderful. Staff were so wonderful and the ambience was great. Loved the set up. Wine list and cocktails are in point and the steak was tasty. Pork belly was good but would probably opt for something else next time. I heard the croquettes were worth a try and they did not disappoint!

The food was great. Unfortunately the lighting was not. I would prefer to see what I’m eating. The dim lighting caused quite a bit of discomfort and strain on our eyes.

Not worth it! Overpriced for what it is. Great ambience and spot near the wharf but wouldn’t return. The best cut of meat was a scotch fillet.. weird

We came here as our special date night for our anniversary weekend in Hobart. I can see exactly why this restaurant is rated so highly. The food was delicious, the drinks tasty and the service incredibly attentive & friendly. Nicely situated near the docks, it is a perfect place to enjoy great Argentinean cuisine.

Overall the dining experience is good everytime I come to Frank. It can be a bit hit and miss with some dishes though. The croquettes are always amazing and the meatballs are delicious! The lamb shoulder and the steaks can be a bit hit and miss but overall the flavours and experience is good. The wait staff is always great here

Waiters not paying attention to the customers.

Great food and excellent service. The vegetarian dishes were definitely the highlights

Some of the most delicious veggies dishes I’ve ever had, I came here for steak but was blown away by the sides, the potato and cauliflower both came with out of this world delicious cream sauces, and the broccolini and mushroom dish was smokey like a campfire in the most delicious way. This is not to say the steak was bad! Quality Argentinian style barbecued steak with tasty chimichurri and chilli sauces but honestly I’d come here just to eat the veggies and enjoy the view!

Great location on the water front, amazing decor with great artworks, the environment had a great vibe, loved the cocktails and food was awesome, friendly staff
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
Down by Hobart's historic waterfront, Frank Restaurant & Bar makes the most of the location with giant windows on three sides, framed with towering black walls. While the long twilight's pastel painted skies are the main visual attraction, there are also brightly coloured dangling statement lights and tattoo flash on the internal glass walls dividing the space into bar and restaurant. Inspired by the Argentinian asado, or barbeque, Frank's menu is designed to be served as a shared, whole-of-table feast. Where it improves upon Sydney’s South American churrasco joints is in the inspired list of vegetable sides - finally a South American restaurant where you could comfortably bring a vegetarian. Our party of four kicks off with Tasmanian oysters harvested from the nearby Pipe Clay lagoon. Here they're served Fresca ($4.50/each) with a great, tart chilli pineapple ceviche dressing that leaves a good hole to taste the oyster, and Fire-Roasted ($4.90/each) with a salsa made from chorizo, peppers, garlic and ash that makes a nice change from oysters Kilpatrick. We start our drinking adventure with...

Had my earlier dinner at Frank restaurant, even though the afternoon menu doesn’t have many choices but overall was fantastic! Friendly staff and enjoyable environment :)

This was profoundly disappointing. 6 hungry men opted for the “feed me” option at $ 75 per head. For a supposed “Argentinian” restaurant this option proved tragically short of red meat. The mains comprised a large serving of their skirt steak which was a tad chewy and rather unexciting. The roast chook that came shortly afterwards was pale and bland, and was paired with an equally dull and wet salad. <br/><br/>We were also plied with way too many vegetable dishes, leading to the unfortunate conclusion that the restaurant had well and truly screwed us. It was quite the rip-off. <br/><br/>The final slap in the face was being offered a half serving of dessert each. Unreal. <br/><br/>The place was otherwise OK: the bar man made us some excellent cocktails, and the wine selection was reasonable.

Had a pretty nice evening here to celebrate our anniversary, although sitting against the window on a cold night was a little chilly.<br/><br/>The thing I enjoyed most here was, surprisingly, the vegetable sides! While we did try a hanger steak, and i was quite impressed with the meaty flavour, the veggie dishes were just killer.<br/><br/>Utilising the char grill, we had a delicious zucchini, chorizo and yoghurt sauce salad that was just kissed with smoke and perked up with some tangy pickles. For the hanger steak, we chose the pumpkin, feta and walnut salad which was perfect! The steak was really rich and meaty, so the salty feta and sweet, charred pumpkin made the perfect match.<br/><br/>I also really loved the cheese empanada, I could have eaten a bowl of them. The entry level pinot noir on the other hand, was quite acidic and not very nice. Maybe it had been open for a few days already?<br/><br/>Overall, was really pleased with food and service.

They don't have much vegetarian on the menu but the staff were really helpful. They actually got us a vegetarian stew with coriander rice. We also had the sweet potato with goats cheese. The rice was a bit bland but with the stew it went perfect. While the sweet potato with goats cheese was really good. <br/><br/>I really loved the vibe of the place and lovely views of the wharf.
Recovering Ice-cream Addict
Chargrilled quail was very tasty- crispy skin, tender meat, and amazing sauce. Highlight was the nemesis cake with fresh cream. Extremely moisted and smooth. Loved every bite of it.

Caught up with a friend here during my short stint in Hobart. We opted for the feed me option (not printed on the menu, but they do $55, $65 and $75 feed-me. We opted for the $55 which didn't include dessert.<br/><br/>Food: <br/>Starters: Bread with a spicy dip, and tostadas - These were a bit too oily for my liking.<br/>1. Wild quinoa, cauliflower, rocket, walnut, spiced pepper puree - well prepared salad<br/>2. Charred sweet potato, goats curd, muddled almonds, garlic, coriander - i quite liked this.<br/>3. Market fish ceviche - good ceviche. <br/>4. Market fish, peppers, tostada, jalapeno, onion & fennel salsa, labna - generous serve of fish and went well with the labna.<br/>5. Steak - with chimichurri & salsa picante. I liked the flavours of the sauces with the steak. The steak itself was beautifully cooked.<br/>Service<br/><br/>Overall, each dish was nicely prepared, and the staggered service allowed us to get through parts at a time. Service was pleasant and attentive. It was a relatively busy night for them but we didn't wait too long for food or to be attended to.

Dined at Frank as a party of six mid week, in part as a thank you to our birthday boy tradie ( the things you have to do) and a catch up with intrastaters. We, on recommendation from our waiter, opted to go share plates for the evening. We were talked through the the pros and cons of the various dishes and sizes whilst we had some beverages chosen from an average drinks menu(when you only offer a few tap beers don’t run out of the only local brew before 6.30!)<br/> The table started with empanadas and In hindsight should have ordered more, that was followed by Quail,Pork Belly,Chicken and a Salad thingy with the Quail being the stand out <br/>The venue affords good water views and offers relaxing surroundings, the staff are friendly but discreet. In general it was a “nice” experience albeit a touch expensive <br/>May return to try some of the steak offerings
Alex Anderson
Amazing food & cocktails for a very good price. Would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Hobart, it's a must-visit. The staff are also incredibly friendly and the service was impeccable, would go again in a heartbeat.
Katie Sutton
We loved our dinner at Frank. Came on a weekday at 7 and the restaurant was full - glad we booked! We started with cocktails and oysters - the fire-roasted oysters were just divine. So much flavour!<br/>We also had delicious pickles, trumpeter ceviche, perfectly cooked wagyu and roasted vegetables. Yum. We would have loved to try dessert but were just too full! Would definitely come back.
Ruby
Wonderfully informative staff, beautiful food for sharing, and my family enjoyed some delectable cocktails as well! This restaurants deserves five stars.

Dined here on a Friday night around 7:30pm. Very large restaurant and quite busy. Front of house service was fantastic, we were seated right away and he explained the menu clearly and politely. Once we were seated, we were approached by four different wait staff who all explained the menu to us and asked us for our drinks order. The service continued to be haphazard and confusing. Cocktails were ordinary and beer was overpriced. Upon ordering our food, I asked the waiter if one of the meals was spicy to which I received the response of 'Come on, man up' - I appreciate he was trying to be endearing, but unfortunately come across as quite rude and sexist. Food was average and overpriced. The bean and zucchini side dish was yummy but cold. Didn't try the desserts. The front of house waiter was very receptive and appreciative of our feedback which was great.

Not much selection but what's to choose from is decent and the service is amazing, solid vibe and good pricing. Great location and easy to book <br/>
Opinionista
This is a big place and they offer a wide range of beautiful local produce. We had a table for 5 and enjoyed the food and wine for the most part. The service was disappointing. We ordered a shared chicken dish to start, when it arrived, it was beef. We explained that 2 of our party don't eat red meat and we were told they ran out of chicken so they just did beef instead! That was weird - why not come and tell us? Don't just assume we would accept a completely different dish... <br/>our waitress tended to ask questions and then walk away before we answered...it put a dampener on our experience. I would think twice about going to Frank again.
BrunswickBeetroot
The most outstanding restaurant in all of Hobart. I ate here twice in a group of four during our 4 night stay in Hobart. Frank is like eating dinner in a quirky art gallery (just perfect after spending a day at MONA), it is a truly fascinating space. The menu focuses on South American flavours including vegetables uplifted by tasty dressing and sauces and meat cooked to perfection. Our favourite dish was the charred sweet potato with goat curd, a zesty dressing and roasted almonds. It was so good that we managed to find the recipe online and have attempted to replicate it at home on numerous occasions. <br/>The staff were lovely and the wine list was good. Our waiter recommended the Mil Piedras 2014 Malbec, a brilliant wine that paired well with the strong flavours.
Stuck In Transit
It was our first night in Hobart and we were after something laid back, delicious and centrally located to where we were staying. A few people had recommended Frank Restaurant & Bar, so thought we would take them up on the recommendation and check it out. ATMOSPHERE & SERVICE. We arrived quite late into Hobart, so made a booking for 9:30pm. I thought we would be one of the last tables to arrive, however there were still a few others being seated when we arrived as well. The restaurant is located near Elizabeth pier, with ocean views. Inside, the space has an industrial feel with exposed black ceilings, concrete flooring and iron rails to create some separation between the different areas.

Great food.Lots of beautiful salad and vegetable dishes.Thought desert of rice and bananas could be presented a lot nicer. Would highly recommend.
Colin
Whats with the ridiculous uniform? The staff looked like they were from the set of a horror movie and our server not only looked like a stoner with glazed over eyes with long greasy hair dangling in our food but his bad demeanor and poor service lead us to believe he probably doesn't really want to be there. Thanks leatherface. Apart from that GREAT FOOD
Anne
One of our favorites during our holiday in mid Jan. Fresh and flavoursome food with great service. Cool environment with art designs throughout the dinning areas. <br/>This place would be my regular even just for the desserts.<br/><br/>Would recommend:<br/>Mains: ribs, beef and lamb curry with green rice. <br/>Side salads: fried potatos and the zucchini and green bean salad and sweet potato salad.<br/>Desserts: Tres de leches cake, creamed rice pudding, chocolate parfait. <br/>
The Idiot Rabbit
The restaurant was quite busy, so I recommend booking for nice seats. We came in at 9 and was seated by the window.<br/>I ordered the tira de ancho. A beef cut considered to be the most expensive cut of meat avaliable on the market. The chefs at Frank had done a superb job on the dish. Cooking the steak a medium rare all the way through (the meat is precut to deter any turn offs by the natural turd shape of the meat). The dish was accompanied by a herb, and lime, olive oil which was to cover the meat and a natural yogurt with pepper (mild spice) for dipping. Overall a fantastic dish. As a meat lover this was one of my top favourites. The servers were quite helpful and friendly, providing great customer service. The server recommended me to get a vegetable dish to accompany my steak. She suggested the crispy sweet potato. Which was also quite good but subpar to the delicious meat dish. Overall a good restaurant but since I am here for a short period I will not be able to comment on the other dishes. <br/>If you do go here, it is worth spending the extra money getting the tira de ancho. The grade is low but the cut makes up for it.

Frank is a great restaurant and the food is delicious, the sweet potato can't be overlooked! Be careful though if you're coeliac, I mentioned I had it to the waiter and was told what I can and can't eat, however suggest you don't eat the crispy potatoes as they're cooked in the same oil as the empanadas and I got really sick front that. Aside from that, definitely worth the visit.
Whats On The Grill?
Fantastic restaurant. Service is top notch and extremely personable. Food is also extremely good. Had the sweet potato, oysters, chicken & iron steak - each and everyone was excellent. Wine too was delicious - had the Ese. Cocktails were not quite as good as may expect but minor point.

Excellent food and great cocktails super friendly staff the steak was perfect<br/>It was surprising cool on the inside especially considering the outside!

Amazing food. We ordered nearly everything on the menu and every dish was delicious. A great night out with really friendly service. Highly recommend this place.

Amazing food and funky atmosphere:) <br/>service was great, and value for money is just right<br/><br/>Loved tortilla with chorizo and spicy apples) would be happy to come back<br/>

Frank exudes a relaxed and cool vibe, perfect for comfortable but exciting dining. The menu is designed to be shared, and with so many delicious options available, you would not want it any other way! The spice combination used in the beef mole created a delicious flavour I'd never experienced before. Other items I highly recommend are the chargrilled vegetables and the spiced chicken. We ordered 6 dishes for 5 people, which was the perfect amount. If you're looking for a big feed, however, I'd perhaps add one or two more dishes.
5 Or 1
Ruined our last night in hobart. Ended a 5 day trip with a foul taste in our mouth. Entre of supposedly local squid was chewey and inedible. Things proceeded to go further down with hill with the main, flavorless poorly cooked "local fish" and tough lamb continued to break our spirit. Tried to salavage things with desert at the nearby restaurant ALOFT where we had impeccable service and fantastic food, however it was closed (probably the only reason there were customers at Frank). Avoid at all costs.

I only stopped through for a quick bite to eat following an afternoon at Mona, however my impressions of Frank were good. Service was timely, and the waiter seemed very knowledgable about both the food and the wine menu. I ordered the daily tortilla (brisket, absolutely sensational), the white fish and prawn ceviche, and two fire-roasted oysters. Overall the food was delicious. The brisket tortilla was most definitely the highlight, simply fell apart in your mouth. The white fish and prawn ceviche was very tasty, however I felt that the coconut red onion did overpower the delicate flavours of the fresh seafood; minor detail however. The oysters were delicious, however the 'fire roasted' part was most apparent when I initially eagerly tried to eat one and promptly burnt my tongue; rookie error. Following this I ordered the three-cheese empanada. Crispy, cheesy, what more can you want? Perhaps a little more. All up with a glass of wine this came to $62.30. My main criticism would be the serving sizes were perhaps a tad on the small size for my preference, but that's my opinion only.<br/><br/>Bottom line, delicious food but bring your wallet if you don't want to leave hungry.

Big, boisterous and loud without being overbearing. A fun place to eat with, thankfully, excellent food and incredibly friendly service. Eat it on your own or share it - portions are big, the South-American influenced  flavours a delight. It's probably hard to find a complaint! All adds up to a fabulous place to celebrate with two or a group (we were four - and enjoyed sharing the food and excellent wines).

My favourite place in Hobart. Great plates for sharing. Food is amazing. Cocktails are awesome. Atmosphere 10/10. They consistently do a fantastic job here. No complaints at all. Try it out 👍

Close to perfect! <br/>Very nice decor & ambience though they foul do with a bit more lighting. <br/>Service was excellent, the lady who served us was very knowledgeable about their cuts of meat. <br/>Loved everything we ordered - the quail, steak, mussel, pork belly, salad, roast potato, & the deserts too. Their food are all good for sharing which was perfect for our party. All of us could sample every dish at ease. <br/><br/>

Stunning food, mostly attentive and helpful service, and interesting atmosphere/decor. Surprisingly affordable too, given the standard of dining. Would not hesitate to return.

We went to this place for two reasons. 1. Our flight was delayed three hours and we didn't want to sit in the airport and the Hobart terminal has a weak food selection. 2. Our friend's parents from Tasmania said this place is really good. They were right!<br/><br/>Is it possible to meld Modern Australian with South American flare and influence. The answer is a resounding 'yes.' The Tortilla of the Day was a handmade corn tortilla (😍) with some moist chicken and pickled onions. A delightful taco inspired 4 bite starter. The pork belly with Kola Glaze and fried pickles with house made chicharrones was great. My wife's beef special of the day had a great chimichurri sauce and the charred sweet potatoes with muddled almonds and coriander were sooooo good! So basically, yeah, I would go back!

Highlight of the Hobart trip for us. Great location with attitude. Grab the feed me option for $65 and experience a great selection of the best. Highly recommended venue.

Great menu and setting. Whole flathead on the grill - what is better. The surprise was the iceberg lettuce with seaweed - who would have thought - a perfect combination. Service professional and matched to mood of diner. More Tasmanian wines needed on wine list. Otherwise well worth it on a Hobart weeknight...

Deeelish!<br/>Food was fabulous, great beer and wine on tap.<br/>Great service, with the exception of one guy refusing to give me more info about a beer I loved (that wasn't on the menu)...yeah, that was kind of weird. <br/>Not sure when I'll be back to Hobart but Franks will be our first stop for sure!

A very mixed experience this evening, food was perfect, absolutely delicious in fact I practically ate the plate. Service was incredibly annoying. As I ate my last bite a waiter asked "how is everything"? We then sat for 30 minutes with empty plates and empty wine glasses while the numerous waiters and waitresses passed by our table and even clearing the two tables directly next to us as soon as they finished their meals. Desert and more wine would of been lovely if anybody had bothered to ask. And to add insult to injury we would of been happy to of passed this feedback quietly to the staff if they had asked how our evening was. Instead 3 staff members thought it more important to play with the computer than to take our payment or even acknowledge that we were waiting to pay.

Frank was recommended by a few friends and locals on our my arrival to tassie. <br/>Starting off with some great service and friendly advice (however she did not know what rum was in the cocktail special, sailor jerry isn't a white rum but won't hold this against her)<br/>We order food from this waitresses guidance, food came super quick and was very impressive. <br/>During the meal I finally got service from a new waitress for a second drink (glass of red). the first glass came out filthy, I then asked for another with an apology from her. Upon her leaving I noticed the second glass too was dirty with something inside which wasn't wine...<br/>We then waited a timely 8-10minutes to return the wine which by then had nearly finished the meal. The water at the table too didn't get topped up for quite a time. <br/>Overall great food, the first half of service wasn't enough to make up for a terrible back half.
Anna
Absolutely amazing. One of the best restaurants I have been. Great fresh food, unique ambiance, great service and even the house Pinot was simply delicious! Just loved it!
Jay
Great restaurant. Service was amazing. Well worth it would come back. Spatchcock, ribs, chargrilled veggies and stake were fantastic and perfectly cooked.
Aileen Rai
We stumbled upon this place and was very impressed. The service was first class and food to die for. We had the lamb and beef mole, calamari, greens and sweet potato. All dishes were beautiful and staff were friendly and attentive. Must try when in Hobart.
Ryan Kucharski
Yummo in my tummo. <br/><br/>Vesper martinis to start, PX to finish. In between the highlights were lamb rump, grilled pickles, and charred vegetables. <br/><br/>The scallop empanadas were the only blemish, tasting like chicken pie. <br/><br/>Well done Hobart!
Jeremy Elia
This is a great place. Service fantastic and food very good. The type of place you'd expect down a trendy lane in Melbourne. Would recommend this place to anyone visiting Hobart and needs a fix of good food and great environment.

The scallop empanadas are unbelievably delicious! Food was divine but our service was not up to scratch considering the hefty price tag.
TINA JOHNSON
Visited Hobart from Melbourne and this restaurant was one of the best in which we came across whilst in Tasmania. The chargrilled vegetables were absolutely delicious and the mains which we ordered were also really delectable. Wait staff were really friendly.

Had a great dinner in Frank. Decoration is on the creative side with gothic vibe. Simple south American food yet sensational. We had fried flat pumpkin bread with tomato sause which is refreshing. Really tasty scallop empanadas which is rather different than the mainstream. Beef and Lamb Mole was perfectly spiced and well cooked. Grilled chicken with purple sweet potatoes and fried Yuka as main, a down to earth dish which showed good food does need to be complicated.
MF
Great location and modern interesting decor.<br/>Delicious South American food and fairly good service. We had the $55 menu where they brought us a taste of the best on the menu. Very delicious and good portion sizes.<br/>Good drink menu.<br/>Check the itemized bill as we had $180 of some other table's food and drinks on our bill. When we pointed this out, it was taken off without question.

Best introduction to Hobart!. Took friend from Sydney to lunch last Saturday. Warm welcome for FOH, great wine list and really interesting menu. We loved it - portion size perfect and truly magnificent taste and texture balance in every plate.
Jess
Amazing food, great service and location. Great use of local produce, the salmon small plate was particularly delicious. Price was also really reasonable given the quality. Was one of the best meals we had not only in Hobart, but throughout Tasmania.
A Hobart Diner
Awesome food, location atmosphere and music. Drinks service quite lacking and did not keep up with food. This was recognised by server and bill was credited which was appreciated and hopefully noted by management.

This weekend I headed to Hobart for probably about the 12th time for a very dear friends engagement party. I LOVE our little friend Tasmania across the water, hence why I am always so happy to go back. Things over there are slower, less cluttered and more beautiful… And the produce is top notch, so it is heaven for a foodie.

Awesome, awesome awesome. Frank offers a really interesting way of dining with friends. Wine is ordered by the litre in jugs. Meals are intended for sharing, which means you can pick at a few different things and essentially build your own plate. I ate the tortilla for entree followed by the skirt steak (divine), smashed fried potatoes (best potatoes I've ever eaten), sweet potato with salsa and goats curd. All of the food was so colourful and wonderfully spiced with a prominent South American influence. Steaks certainly seem the specialty here but my vegetarian friends also had numerous options which they loved. I can't think of anywhere in Hobart that is quite like Frank, it's a restaurant that you could visit with friends or on a date and make a whole night of - the cocktail menu was also pretty impressive. Great, warm service.
Nick
They well-overbooked themselves and we waited ages for drinks, for dishes. Food ranged from delicious (the ceviche) to unpleasant (the salmon with overpowering sauce). All in all a very average experience that I wouldn't recommend for the money.<br/><br/>Having said that, the staff were lovely.

Recently had an evening meal here but will not return.Had heard mixed reviews and chose the winter special menu.Canapes served at the bar.Interesting selection good start. The table we were given was not a stand alone but rather part of a large collection of tables jammed together to maximise profit.I do not want to sit with randoms listening to my conversation.Entre seafood soup well done if too salty.Wines were combined with the meal and were for he most part forgettable. Then main course.Several plates of Lamb smeared in lentils. The idea was to share with all around you.Communal dinners seem to be more in the province of the Boy Scouts. The lamb was overcooked and dry.The accompaniments? Polenta, brussel sprouts and broccoli.Funny, this is a South American themed placed but these choices seem inspired by an English boarding school.Dessert fluffy sweet combination.Seriously underwhelmed.Good thing it"s a trendy place or there would be no takers.

Nice vibe. I loved the fit-out and spaciousness. Service was good, especially from the bearded chap. The food was interesting; I always enjoy sharing plates. Highlights were the sweet potato with goats curd, the tortillas and the nemesis (flourless chocolate) cake. Go with a group of friends, enjoy the ambience and have a few drinks.

Awesome food, great vibe! One word of warning, be careful of the specials. We ordered a meat special and only discovered when bill delivered that it was double the price of the most expensive meat dish on menu! They didn't tell us up front.
Beau
Too cool for school. A very cool place. You can tell because the stools at the bar are mismatched and there is a gigantic golden torch hanging from the ceiling plus a cage like structure to sit in and eat if you so desire. We sampled dessert and coffee early afternoon with few people dining. Service was ordinary - staff not happy to see us and we should have left straight away. Order taken and served abruptly. No enquiry as to whether everything was ok and It wasn't as we had to ask for napkins. The desserts were good but the service poor.
Janine De Paiva
Excellent! Very groovy! Unique menu, wonderful service. So nice to experience something new not boring!
Bacidellafarfalla
Bizarre Service - Good Food. If you can get over the intrusive service and repeated "how's that going guys" questions, this is a great spot for a feed. <br/>The flavours are great, the price point spot on and the wines match well.
Latrax
Nothing special. Had my birthday lunch there today. Disappointing! Not many choices if you're not a big meat eater. Empanadas were deep fried rather than baked leaving us feeling bloated. The fillings were very light on. <br/>Mussels were swimming in butter, no taste of chilli or wine as per menu, no mention of butter soup on the menu, misleading & boring fatty flavour. <br/>Pickles were very sharp acidic, too young, not ready to be served yet. <br/>As a woman I dislike like the greeting 'Hi Guys' and are yous ready to order ? <br/>We won't be back nor recommend.
Bimbii
Loved this place! Food was tasty and adored the decor, will be visiting again when I'm back in Hobart!
Lee Belbin
We ordered cerviche, pumpkin bread, lamb and a green salad for lunch. We first fell into the trap of getting bubbly water at $9.90 a bottle. From Italy darn it. Then waited 35 minutes for any food, even though it wasn't busy at just turned 12. The pumpkin bread was a dead loss - tasteless and nothing to it. The green salad was good. The Lamb also pretty good. The cerviche was nothing like I have had in central and south America. Surely cerviche should have lime and chilli? Won't rush back.
Sue_rowe
Wonderful addition to Hobart. Was a bit wary after reading all the negative comments...however we had a great dinner last night.<br/>Food was interesting and full of flavour. The meat dishes from the Grill, tasty and delicious. Service - our waitress was cheerful, professional and well informed.<br/>They could make their booking system a bit easier and add some chairs to the bar area, as we had to stand while waiting for our table. But otherwise, very enjoyable evening and we will be back.
Carol.cockburn
Yum!. Had a great time here last night. A world away from the reviews I've read! Found a space in the bar, food was fab, on recommendation we shared everything. Cocktails super! Service was fun and professional even when clearly very busy. 10 out of 10 guys!

Frank still beats any restaurant in Hobart. Great atmosphere, great service, great food.

Oh Frank, you did not win any new friends tonight. We had been recommended to try Frank and unfortunately had a disappointing night. Upon arrival, early, we asked front house staff if there were any tables available for dinner, she very rudely told me to go have a look myself (sorry I didn't realise it was self serve?). Night didn't improve, we were asked if we needed drinks three times by three seperate people and yet no one brought us our drinks! Ordered scallop empanadas which were nice, ceviche was terribly bland, as was the octopus. Short ribs also boring. Highlight was charred vegetables with goats curd - delicious! Had high hopes for Frank, but don't bother. Such poor service and lacklustre food - won't be back.
Ilikeblack
Yum!. Toilet block sucks and ruins a great view. food and service is epic!

Local Resident. Enjoyed the location and the set up of the restaurant. Unfortunately, one of my guests could not eat her pork despite having it on a previous visit and recommending it. She told the waiter and all she got was oh! The service is appalling and needs to be attended to if return business is on the menu. No thanks or comment at all when paying the bill. Long way to go for me.
Brad
Cold food. All dishes were cold. Steak...well cut up peices of meat with no presentation on a slippy light weight platter that slid around the table.

Great food, service inert. We were strongly recommended Frank to try the South american inspired food, as we have a Latin American food stall ourselves. Unlike many restaurants which are horribly pretentious in Hobart, the menu was nothing of sorts. It was rustic and simple, elegant and definitely delivered. Fresh, very "criolle" food, simple and authentic. Our pork was slightly undercooked, but the everything else was spot on. Unfortunately the service was quite impersonal and we didn't even get offered dessert, which was very disappointing. We didn't even get greeted goodbye, at some point we became invisible, so much that the waitresses passed by me and didn't even looked, even as I was getting ready to leave while my parner paid the bill. He wasn't even ask how the evening went, which tells a lot about a restaurant. Not pretentious in the menu, but quite so in personality.<br/><br/><br/>-----17 Dec, 2014-----<br/><br/>Great food, service somehow inert. We didn't even get greeted goodbye, at some point we became invisible, so much that the waitresses passed by me and didn't even looked, even as I was getting ready to leave while my parner paid the bill. He wasn't even ask how the evening went, which tells a lot about a restaurant. Not pretentious in the menu, but quite so in personality.

I wish I could try this restaurant!. Have been trying for the past few days to make a reservation.....no one answers the phone, and the message machine says DONT leave a message, go to the website. Well, when you go to the website it tells you you can't make a reservation online within 3 days!! And even then only when Frank staff have called you to confirm. Get it together guys! Would love to try your restaurant.

Appalling service! So slow, our waitress had no idea - asked whether we needed more wine during entree, yet only returned after we had finished our main. Had to get a waiter from another area just to order our food. Sat and watched while a lovely romantic third-age couple were moved (mid-mouthful) by staff to make room for a pack of smartphone-starers. One of those nights where the service is so bad, it builds up, you say something, and everybody at your table thanks you for saying what has been eating away at them all night.

Frank restaurant Hobart. An extension of the very popular 'Smolt' restaurant. 'Monaesque' fittings, excellent design, interesting....not 'over the top'<br/>Quality, yet quantity food, cooked lovingly...lunch choices very appropriate...<br/>Staff humane, animated, intelligent...not pretentious!<br/>Kiffey in charge but not playing at power!

Great food but atmosphere and service not up to scratch. Enjoyed the food, great flavours in all of the dishes. Extensive wine list and really enjoyed our choice. Overall the place is let down by inattentive service and interior decor that really lacks any cohesive style. I had expected better. Have another meal booked here next month so will give it another chance as the food really was excellent and perhaps the staff are just not up to speed yet.

Was a bit worried when I read the previous reviews, but we just had an amazing lunch at Frank. Everything was so tasty- had 3 smaller plates and one main meat between 2 of us and we were stuffed, but happily so. Would definitely recommend - delicious food and service was great also.

The space looks good but ... Unfortunately staff were not well trained - they didn't know about the food on the menu, couldn't open a bottle of wine, and there was no toilet paper in the toilets. The food failed to live up to expectations - we paid $60/head for a $20 meal. Luckily, The dessert was good.

Skip mains, go for dessert.. Missed the mark. Food was below average & service was terrible. Not welcoming and clearly no experience. We were served food without being given plates and constantly had to ask for service. Overall a feeling of lack, which was a pity. On a positive note, excellent wine & beautiful dessert. So skip the mains. A beautiful interior is helpful but food is still king. Or joker in this case.

Not at all up to scratch. Slow service at bar, nothing you could not make at home- chicken bloody - returned to kitchen not once but twice - uneaten and taken unapologeticaly off the bill - disappointing service - we are not sick from bleeding chicken but sickened by response - pretty banal uber design space - smacks of government office space - without defining character - best things - Argentinian Pinot Noir from Patagonia and view from window which kept spirits up as sun set over harbour - why is distinctive Hobat Harbour becoming increasingly just like any other place?

Frank is by far the best restaurant food we have had so far! The flavours were mind blowing and portions were perfect allowing us to keep having a few liquid delights in between meal sensations. My favourite was the sweet potatoe w goats cheese. You can't go past Hobart without calling in, make sure u book though!

Great location. Funky decor with a relaxed fun atmosphere. But sadly Ill advised re food. Told to share dishes and was nowhere near enough. Food was also cold. Order a meal each with sides and you'll leave satisfied.

Frank Restaurant and Bar, 1 Franklin Wharf, Hobart. Great venue, fantastic variety on the menu, delicious food and all at a reasonable price with very good service.

Frank Restaurant and Bar is now Hobart’s ‘IT girl’. Housed on Franklin Wharf with water views one side and leafy green Morrison Street on the other, Frank Restaurant and Bar is the place you will want to be. Self-professed modern Australian with Southern American influences, Frank plays hosts to asado and Latino flavours in MONA-esque architecture. A central cage, floor to ceiling windows, themed with South American deities, black, pink and red; graffiti, and decent sized slabs of Tasmanian timber. The design is gorgeous and just a little bit Melbourne, but better, because it’s here. Created by the gorgeous Smolt owners, their signature style is on display. Hobart’s wharf area had its heyday and since then it has plodded along. Which is sort of crazy because why wouldn’t you want to enjoy a drink, a good meal and the view of Constitution Dock? Not since Marque IV has anyone made the most of this setting.

Frank is exciting in concept, style and menu. It’s holds a unique position in Hobart’s dining scene and we look forward to watching the Argentinian revolution unfold before us!
