Review Pancho Villa - Hobart

Very busy location with good vibes! Tequila range was extensive! Food was good, interesting. I’m not sure if it was just the combination of flavours that I didn’t enjoy or the lack of this night, but will give it another go! Night #2, Visited for taco Tuesday and food was tasty 👌🏼 the vego tacos were by far more flavourful, and even for dessert!

I have been their previously and the food and service both times were exceptional. There is a really great Mexican atmosphere and the decor makes you feel like you are in a church. Lighting was dim and cozy and there was also a Voodoo bar attached to the restaurant via a secret bookshelf door.

Great atmosphere, great service and the foods are delicious! The drinks are amazing, we had a different range of cocktails – loved it all, it’s so tasty. We had a really great time and enjoyed a lot!! ❤

Where to start? This place was amazing and definitely served some of the best Mexican food while we were here in Hobart! The flank steak was grilled to mouth watering perfection, and the fried chicken tacos and chorizo potatoes were incredible. We loved the Gothic atmosphere with the pressed metal lanterns and stained glass windows, and the Voodoo Lounge behind the secret bookcase was a nice little surprise at the end of the night. Highly recommended!

Delicious meal. Recommend the fried chicken tacos. The cauliflower is tasty but the serving size could be improved. Attentive and lovely staff. Terrific atmosphere and the tunes were fantastic. Great for a date.

First time at Pancho Villa and I have literally no complaints. Was approached at reasonable times for drinks and food orders. Food came out in a good amount of time. We ordered the shared taco plate between 4 adults and didn't finish everything but it was amazing. We ordered several different cocktails and all were very nice with great presentation. Towards the end of the night we were gifted free shots of caramel infused tequila for being such a "delightful table to serve", it just really tied the whole experience together. (disclaimer dont expect these free shots as part of your experience, it was pretty obvious our table had been given this treat due to good manners and active listening when the waiters came over, you're not entitled to this, it was a thank you from the restaurant). I didn't get the chance to check out the toilet but if its anything like the rest of the place I'm sure they'll be fine. Entrance was a ramp and there was plenty of space between tables so pretty wheelchair friendly, was $$$ but in this case you pay for what you get and in my opinion it was totally worth it.

Pretty sure I had an outer body experience here. The food and cocktails were absolutely superb. Our waiter, who was a young guy, was just lovely too. An absolute bucket list item for a visit to Hobart.

Great location with a really incredible fit out! Fantastic food- fresh and appropriate serving sizes. Can't wait to come back and try more

We went to a late sitting on a Friday. It was moderately busy but we booked ahead and were seated immediately. Staff were polite, engaged and accommodating. A small but well developed menu with plenty of options for vegetarians. The sides were delicious and plentiful. The tequila cocktails are amazing. I would highly recommend the churro dessert. I highly recommend this restaurant if you make a visit to Hobart.

Need to bring back lunch to the courtyard, was always a good reasonably priced feed with a good atmosphere and friendly staff, I need to visit for dinner and check out the inside setup

What a find! We stumbled across this gorgeous restaurant, with such a lovely interior which is quite moody, modern and romantic. The food is delicious, the quesadilla was particularly good! Highly recommend this place.

Our party of 8 was restricted to one of the 2 set menus. We chose the $50/head option. Guacamole very very citrusy and main course shared by 4 consisted of chicken, pork, beef, cauliflower and potatoes, the latter pretty much covered at least one third of the plate. Accompaniments were uninspiring- tomatoes, iceberg, cheddar cheese and a couple of sauces. Best thing on the plate was the corn tortillas. Can’t comment on other menu items as this was not open to us. Gave it 3 stars for the service only which was great. Won’t be going back.

Great atmosphere and awesome food! I loved the cauliflower tacos and the fish tacos! Service was friendly. Better than Mamasita, Pacos Tacos and Hotel Jesus in Melbourne!

I'd have rated this place three stars if it wasn't for the service, which was extremely warm and friendly. I was greeted at the front like a long-lost friend, despite never having been. I was seated at the bar promptly, and my wine order taken quickly thereafter. Food recommendations came easily, and I had a great chat to one of the bar staff about his favourite picks. I ended up going with the tofu paella, which turned out to be quite a disappointment. It had frozen peas (the worst) that were hard and lifeless. It was way too salty, though the tofu was nice and provided a decent crunchy texture. The chips that I ordered after the paella were okay. Some overseasoned, some with no seasoning at all. They were extremely oily. The space itself is stunning, and there were plenty of people there to add a fun and convivial atmosphere. Not a bad option, but the food game needs to be lifted.

We took the kids along to Pancho.. as we felt like some good Mexican, we were not let down!!

Great environment, much was said in the family conversations as to how everyone was feeling due to the decor, Fit out and up tempo tunes!

Service couldn’t fault it!

Kids had Guatemala and corn chips, two serves, it was very tangy, real good!

Then the kids followed this with two serves of the beef nachos, they smashed these and apparently they were on par with Mum’s, so that is the highest accolade one can receive!

Lis had the duck, some unusual flavors but she really enjoyed it and it went really well with her Tempranillo

I had the Lamb ribs, the dish of the night, crispy skin, no bones melt in your mouth with BBQ sauce

Mmmmmmmm

Two of the Pacifico beers I enjoyed, with a lime, very nice!

Skipped dessert due to $$$$ @ $16 a head x 5 adds up. So we got cold on a rock elsewhere for $30

But would thoroughly recommend, great night out!!

Cheers 🍻

First experience of the restaurant is lovely, whacky decor. We rocked up early before our booking, was seated in the lounge for drinks. This was our highlight of the night. Tequila served in jugs x2, and a tequila café of some kind.

Booking time arrives and we’re seated. We pick our items, and they take forever to be served. Entrée served was lovely.

Mains arrive much later and are a bitter disappointment. Tacos are actually miniature tortillas, that were gluten free. There was no option to have gluten free, you were served gluten free tortillas. Which, in effect, made the items bland, tasteless, and fragile. The tortillas tasted floury and were cardboard-like that fell apart into too many bits, thus making your meal difficult to consume. Partners chicken “fajitas” were sent back twice, my pork cheek tortillas were horrible. Yet, by this point, I was sick and starving (I have a condition called “Reactive Hypoglycaemia”) and had to eat.

Get our bill at the end, and they had it all wrong. We could have walked out easily paying a measly $30 for just the food, as they forgot to add on the drinks.

Needless to say, when we return to Tassie. This poor excuse for a Mexican restaurant won’t be an option.

Drinks were great, entree was good, but waited ages for a table - our fault, rocked up early - fajita main was cold, then came back out - tasteless, cardboard, broke apart - shame, really nice place but worst dining experience ive had in years, not worth the money

Who knew there would be good Mexican food in Hobart? We had the quesadilla and the chimichanga. Both were quite good, albeit a little drier than what we are used to. The mexican food from our neck of the woods is a little sloppier, with more gooey cheese and more sauce and salsa, and we like it that way.

Service was good and the overall aesthetic and interiors are instagrammable and hip. It was a little dark. Overall we were pleased with the experience.

Great ambiance, great food, great service and brilliant drinks!!! Had a very nice night here with my husband, couldn't complain about anything!

Amazing food and service 👍👏👌 Couldn't fault a thing. The tacos were extremely flavoursome and the trio of dips was brilliant. The chimichanga was outstanding and the dessert to finish off was even better. If in doubt definitely go here and try it out

The only real redeeming feature for our visit (party of 2) was the decor. The staff where also lovely even if one of the women was inappropriately attired. The chicken was so dry it was almost inedible, the pulled pork an oil soup and the cape Grimm steak tacos a charcoal flavoured disaster. We ended up leaving much on our plates and headed off in search of some nearby takeaway to finish filling up. Might be ok if you where drinking as the bar looked great but if going for the food I wouldn't bother.
Jojo
Food and drinks quite good, great ambience and I really appreciate all the fine details that they have put in. The drinks are very very nice and good share style food.

Too cool!
Decor was unique & classy.
Service was brilliant.
Cocktail was fantastic
Mexican paella was crazy good!
What a team !
A stand alone restaurant showing the rest of them how it should be done.
Perth take note.
Staff were absolutely lovely and super helpful as our family have a lot of different dietary requirements. Food was awesome! The atmosphere and decor was great! Will definitely be back!

I absolutely adored this trendy bar.

Upon entering, my friends and I were greeted to a warm welcome, and given the option of sitting in the main restaurant or beer garden. We opted for the later, as the restaurant was busy and we were only stopping for drinks. The attention to detail here is fantastic. Cocktails are out of this world, served in beautiful glasses and topped with anything from dehydrated fruit to fairy floss and paper planes! Unfortunately we didn't have the time or appetites to try anything off their menu, which reads very well.

Venue was great, 5 stars. Well decorated and not too noisy. Had trio of dips with corn chips to start which was fun (definitely rate the guacamole, give the salsa verde a miss). Shared tacos for mains, we had cape grim brisket and the blue corn pork taco. Both were nice and fresh. The corn husk merengue was nice but the dots of coconut and ?raspberry didn't add to the entire dish. I would return and try different items and the extensive cocktail range, however hoping for a different waitress next time as ours was quite pushy seemed to be just wanting to clear the table.

Our airbnb host highly recommended this local gem to us as one of the best restaurants she had been to in Hobart. As we did not have any prior plans, we decided to drop in tonight to check it out.

The restaurant was booked out when we arrived so we were offered a seat in the courtyard while we waited for a table indoors.

We had assumed it was an outdoor setting and because it was a chilly night, we had rugged up, but it was actually a spacious indoor dining area complete with an artificial tree that made you feel like you could have been outdoors.

The staff were very friendly and both the courtyard and indoor dining room was bustling with noise. Even with the large number of diners, the service was actually quite quick with our dishes arriving shortly after ordering. We enjoyed all of the dishes we ordered tonight, but might switch out the first salsa for another flavour next visit. I would highly recommend you try the jalapeno poppers if you can handle a little heat.

Check out the review of Pancho Villa Restaurant and Bar in the blog post below.

Really funky interiors and lots of fresh flavours. We tried the soft shell crab and mushroom tacos which both lacked a little oomph and fell apart easily. Would definitely recommend the pomegranate guacamole though! Allow about $65 per person including cocktails.

Great Friday night evening with friends. If you want to secure a table before the crowds then I recommend to get there before 6:30pm as they place fills up quickly and they don't take reservations. As a table of 6ppl we decided to pick multiple tacos (chicken, crab, prawn and pork) which were a great price at a set of two per filling and they were delicious, although I preferred the chicken and the prawn picks. We also ordered a serve of 4 pork croquettes, beef check, crab salad, and the chorizo potato side, again all were tasty but most of the table rated the tacos higher. Amongst the table we also had an assortment of cocktails titled, flight 378 and the pancho villa. Cocktails are pricey in comparison to the food menu however they don't go light on the alcohol so you get your money's worth. Deserts were a slight let down however we were advised the menu had just changed that week so they were still ironing out some issues, and we weren't charged for an over cooked fondant cake. Service was great despite how busy the restaurant was and our entire party enjoyed ourselves thoroughly.

I headed down to Hobart last week to visit my friend for a few days. Hobart in Summer is glorious and it was a welcome respite from the latest run of Melbourne’s heat and humidity. It wasn’t intentional, but looking back, I seem to have gone on a bit of a dude food bender while I was there. Hot dogs, burgers, Mexican and beer all featured! Not that I am complaining. It was delicious.

Awesome place.
Great Mexican atmosphere.
Top notch interior decor.
Food. Really great. First time I tried Mexican, and won't be the last.
😜

An absolutely stunning corner gem that is not to be missed if you are wandering around in North Hobart. Authentic Mexican food, great tequila, stunning decor, amazing service. Definitely not to be missed!

Was a great experience in the beautifully decked out restaurant. It is evident that plenty of money has been spent on the decor ie skulls on the wall to the chapel-style glass windows. The food was pretty good, not the tastiest Mexican food I had tried, but definitely worth it. The service was very friendly, fast and accommodating to our needs. We had the quesadillas, tacos, scallops and corn chips- which were awesome! Make sure you order the guac to accompany the chips. Our tequilas blew our heads off- in a great way of course. It was fantastic to see such an extensive selection of tequila. The piña colada was fantastic as well - a little sweet, but really enjoyable still. It was served in a massive cup and we couldn't finish it. Presentation of cocktails was magnificent.

Was the best Mexican I've had in ages! Plenty of very helpful staff, food came out quickly and the interesting decor made it for an experience, not just dinner.

I was delighted to get an early sitting by chance & to discover for myself all the hype. As soon as you enter, it transports you to a different place, Mexican inquisition meets Indiana Jones? I loved it!

We ordered blue prawn taco (amazing!). Taco was warm & soft and prawns cooked perfectly. Main chicken was great (it was so tender). Pork belly was ok, no wow factor. Slaw was soggy.

Service was great. I would go back to try their cocktails & the blue taco again.

I had to wear my sunglasses when i got out, it was so bright outside!

Nb- they don't take bookings.

Revisit in Oct 16 - highlight was the amazing cocktails! And the eggplant chips with guacamole. Addictive. Again the mains were on average (too many flavors for my liking ). It was another fantastic fun night out. Will head back for more cocktails.

Scrambled about town with the housemie for Emergency late Dinner after unpacking what felt like a few houses and being properly demolished by a DIY cabinet.

Being reassured that Pancho's kitchen was open after much serial rejection felt as amazing as the food that followed! Delicious menu, was seriously difficult to choose but we settled on guacamolé with plantain chips, and king prawns and fish! Hands down showstopper was the guacamole, which was lightly spiced and pomegranate! Plantain chips are a welcome addition and goes perfectly with the perfect guacamolé!

The king prawns and fish were also cooked to perfection, and rests on a bed of deliciously cool salad.

Will definitely be back here! Preferably when hands are not covered in grime and inexplicable sawdust. Better to use as spoons for guacamole straight into mouth.
Shared a few plates with my dining cohorts; the guacamole with plantain chips, the jalapeño poppers, pulled pork tostaditos (sp?), pulled pork tacos and the chili chicken dish. I had the trio of ice cream for dessert purple yam, corn and lavender - quite interesting flavours. The lavender was not too my taste but my niece loved it. All savoury food was beautifully presented and tasty. The drinks are very pricy, but again lovely presentation and they taste boozey; great if that's what you want in a cocktail ( it usually is). I had the Pancho Villa which was mezcal, gin, cucumber and elderflower. It was refreshing and I went another even though it has a $24 price tag.
Service was lovely from wait staff, Sophie in particular made an extra effort to make us feel welcome.
Go early, they don't take bookings and the place filled up quickly.

When the clock strikes midnight, a taxi ride to NoHo will no longer take you to a ghost town. From now on, Cinderella’s staying out and she’s drinking at Pancho Villa. The Two Girls have been tense with suspense waiting for the big reveal in the old ANZ bank, on the corner of Elizabeth and Pitt Streets North Hobart.

Nice to see new places opening in Hobart, nice ambience but...the tacos were cold, especially the prawn ones. The ceviche was drenched in sauce, could not tell the fish was cured in lemon juice. The cocktails were overpriced. It's a Mexican restaurant how can you charge the margarita $24? Not even the most expensive restaurants in Melbourne and Sydney will charge that much for a cocktail. This place needs to rethink about prices and recipes.

Considering they come with a back story of burgers, pizza and anti pasto, the team behind Pancho Villa have exceeded all expectations. To be honest, I’m astonished.
The standards they have already set, even so early in their life, are supremely high and will be hard to beat. I can only imagine how good Pancho Villa is going to be in a couple of months time with a few more menu tweaks and few thousand hours of service under their belts!
