Review Rin - Hobart

Delish bento! - We ordered sashimi pack (12pcs) but it would be better if we order bigger pack as this is kinda not enough for two. Sashimi includes salmon, 2 pcs of octopus, 2pcs of scallops as in the picture. There is no red ginger going with. - entre bento was totally full with edamame (beans) (they have grounded salt on top so abit salty for me but my friend loves it), takoyaki and seaweed salad (sour tasty to balance other oily dishes). Love the seaweed most! - another bento had fried chicken (we think so), vego tempura (fried vego) and some pcs sushi (tamago, combined sushi and prawn). The fried chicken was too much flour outside. The tempura was sticked together (maybe because it was too hot after fried and not dry the oil after enough). Both of bento came with two soup, such a big plus! One miso soup and one soba noodle soup! The best soup ever! Overall, the experience was great as we love the salad most, but next time we should order the tempura separately.

Great. The best Japanese restaurant in Tasmania so far with my experience. Enjoyed whole time whilst having dinner, just struggled so much choosing the menu so ended up making an order with multiple dishes and pigged out. Highly recommended.

Really tasty food. Great service. Beautiful presentation. The place needs a bit of a touch up with painting and decoration. But definitely would love to return.

It says 2.30pm on the website, Google and Facebook and even on your door. We got there at 2.10pm and they said the kitchen was closed... My partner and I work in the industry and you just don't do this kind of things to guests. Changebthe opening times on everything please. Such a shame because I was really looking forward to it!

I’m Japanese and have had a lot of sashimi from cheap to a bit expensive in Japan and learned how to pretreat and cut fish to sashimi, so I exactly know the freshness of raw fish. I had 12 pcs salmon, scallop and octopus sashimi, Karaage teishoku and Japanese green tea ( Genmai cha, which is Japanese green tea with roasted brown rice). I honestly recommend this restaurant due to pretreated fresh sashimi and real homemade-ish Japanese Karaage.
I ate sashimi at another restaurant also but, this is the best quality and served with a special soy source called sashimi soy source and wasabi paste. The sashimi, especially octopus was well seasoned.
Also, Karaage was chicken legs as same as a real Japanese style instead of breasts. Here, Australian restaurants usually use chicken breasts with overcooked with no pretreating, this is why the taste is dried out.
Lastly, Genmai cha is also a real Japanese taste. We don't need to pay for it in Japan, though. But it took me back.
If you want to try fresh raw fish in a Tasmanian restaurant, I recommend this.

Good, unpretentious Japanese food. Excellent service and sensible portions. Super fresh salmon sashimi and excellent bento. We’ll be back.
Really authentic Japanese lunch brought to you with a smile. It was just a quick lunch today but I was impressed. Well deserved 4 stars and look forward to checking out dinner.

Ordered some sashimi, miso soup, ikura
This review only based on the food I ordered and the situation.

Sashimi is fresh. but either the scallops or octopus is frozen or just washed recently since there is a bit water left in the plate.
Salmon roe taste good and i have no complain about it
Japanese Green Tea taste great
the only disappointment i have is the Miso soup.
It has the greate taste but only have spring onion and the miso inside. I expect it has a tofu or a seaweed rather than just plain soup.

So overall its quiet nice thus i gave this score
Authenticity
Authentic ambience and westernised taste. The chef and waiters spoke Japanese. I could not observe leveraging local Tasmanian produce. Shoyu ramen broth was way too sweet, however the noodles were excellent in texture. Chirashi rice was over cooked with a mere two pieces of sashimi. Overall both were good for the price.

made lunch reservation. seated quickly and allowed to split bill. food was delicious and fresh. i ordered 3 types of nigiri and was very pleased with them all. colleagues ordered bento, ramen, and sushi roll and everyone very impressed with quality and tastiness.

First of all, it's overpriced & the portion is very small but they give f**k ton of rice. I ordered salmon miso bento, hot soba, 12 pcs of salmon sashimi, 12 pcs of spicy salmon roll & sake don. The salmon miso didn't even taste like miso, it's more like teriyaki sauce & there was only 4 thin slices of salmon with fck ton of rice & salad (they forgot to serve the miso soup). The sake don is filled with 1/8 of rice & with only 6 pieces of very very small & thin slices of salmon which is so damn disappointing & my hot soba came with "sushi roll" that's vegetarian. Not complaining but I've never seen or eaten any sushi roll like this pic that I've attached below (mushroom(?),vege,Avo,carrots) WTF. The spicy salmon roll (pic attached below) as u can see, it's FULL of rice & so little filling. I don't know how they get a 3.9 rating. It's overrated, overpriced & food is disgusting. Except for the 12 pcs of sashimi that I ordered, it's tasty but it's soooooo SMALL. FML. I PAID 103AUD for these?????? Never coming back here again and do not recommend it to anyone!!
Love Food
Very nice staff. Greeted and seated promptly. Staff helped out us with high chair as well.
Ordered miso ramen, which the soup taste ok. A bit bland, could be thicker and more flavorful.
Beef teriyaki don was beautiful. Delicious. It was gone in a while.
Beef tataki don. Beef was seared just right with delicious sauce and wasabi that comes with it.
Sake oyako don. Very nice dish. The egg taste very nice. And the wasabi was just beautiful.
It was not expensive as well.

Best Japanese Dish ever in Hobart!Local Japanese dinning environmental and delicious foods. Lovey spoon. ...sashimi is totally fresh,, however, the miso soup is too salty for me

Delicious food here. Miso Soup was the best one i have had in a long time. I also ordered the marinated beef Don, lots of delicious flavour and a plenty of food. Friendly Service, well priced.
More Than Nourishment
I was unsure what to expect after reading the most reviews. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. The tempura udon had a nice flavoured broth with crispy tempura which had a generous filling. Lots of places these days tend to go overboard with the batter and you can't even taste what's inside. This is not the case at Rin. Would recommend it!

While this is indeed a Japanese-run Japanese restaurant, I wouldn't say the fare is particularly 'authentic' or 'real'. That said, the word 'authentic' often gets abused in food reviews, among other arenas of life. I think a more accurate description of Rin would be "food typical of a small Japanese restaurant in the suburbs", which in itself, depending on your situation, may not necessarily be a bad thing.

I think I felt most let down by the salmon teishoku, which was supposed to come with twelve pieces of salmon sashimi. Admittedly there is no objective definition of exactly how big (or small) a 'piece of salmon' should be, but in all good faith, I think the folks at Rin have really stretched the meaning of the words 'twelve pieces of salmon' to absurd lengths (well, the opposite actually, they were ridiculously small but you know what I mean). And this is all in Tasmania, the land of abundant fresh salmon! Restaurateurs, please do not promise more than you can deliver! On a positive note, the ikura sushi was pretty tasty.

Nothing would describe my felling, but I'd say this is the best Japanese food I've ever tried in TAS. The Una don is amazing, that's soft juicy eel meat tastes just like in the haven. Quite comfortable place, you can enjoy your food and read some interesting Japanese book in there.

Rin is a cozy little dinery in Hobart. It serves good sushi and delicious dumplings. I ordered the gyoza bento which is an arrangement of their dishes. I'd definitely recommend this to you, if you can't make up your mind like me. I was one of the last customers in (still well before closing time) and I unfortunately had to wait a long time to get my food. Luckily, the staff was very friendly.

Overall a pleasant dinner of sushi and umeshu wine. The negatives were pricing and the fact that I unfortunately had to get a pair of chopsticks from another table 5-10 minutes after my meal had been served. A group of friends next to me had delicious looking tempura don/yakuniku - I would come back to try.

As bland as it can be. It is authentic Japanese, but food is not very good. Rice was very bad (microwaved rice cooked the day before), got given wrong drink order, pickles on katsu don was wrong type..

Dinner. $$$
Good food
But wouldnt come here again

Not Silver Service, a great little place.. Rin is a very cute, authentic Japanese Restaurant with a shabby chic appeal. It has a great family-run feel to it.
The food was quite good, with the Kara-Age the pick of the lot - the Soba Udon is a runner up. I'll be back.

The service could be a bit improved by bringing drinks to the table (including water) without having to ask for them, and the tables could be cleared once the plate is finished.

It holds its own with Hobart's other popular restaurants in this price bracket (less than $15 for mains)

Food was delicious! A bit loud and squashy, but the food more than made up for it!

Authentic Japanese. I feel sad as I write this review because I had heard that Rin was amazing. Granted, if you like real, and I mean REAL, authentic Japanese food this is the place to go.

Unfortunately, I found the slimy, oniony flavour of their dishes unpleasant. I was assured this was traditional Japanese cuisine so I won't say much else on that, as I have not eaten in Japan.

The decor was simple and clean. A warning, the tables and seats are small, not a lot of room to spread out.

The food here was not for me.

I was absolutely in heaven here, with delicious flavours of tamago omelette, salmon, and shiitake mushrooms. Prices are fair, and the effort put into the preparation and presentation of the food is in true style, simple and clean, in order to emphasise the fresh, subtle flavours of Japanese cuisine. The staff are gorgeous and helpful, and even though the establishment is small and a little cramped, I felt at ease, while enjoying my f
