Review Mures Upper Deck - Hobart

Laura & Alex Home cooked meals!
Mutes upper deck has amazing seafood. Some of the best seafood I have ever had was on this day! We ordered 12 oyster 6 fresh and 6 kill Patrick. We also shared squid. It was so soft not chewy at all.We ordered the lobster it was so yummy the best I have ever had. It was a little costly the whole lobster was $180. The restaurant is up stairs it’s very peaceful with an amazing view of the water and Salamanca highly recommended this place It is a little bit costly but the food is good quality I though crayfish was cheaper at the moment because the whole in port x port is not happening and it’s meant to be cheaper but I didn’t think so. But the experience and quality of food was very good. Perfect for a romantic lunch or dinner!

One of the best meals I’ve ever had in my life. I tried the share table with matching wines. It has 8 different dishes from entrées🧈🥖, mains🦪🍝, dessert 🍮 and wines🍷. This is available from 5:00 to 7:30 🕢. Services were good🤵🏼‍♀️🤵🏻, an amazing view of the sea 🌊 and it’s a very comfy place👌🏻.

Excellent seafood restaurant with very good service, fairly good views over the harbour and fresh quality seafood. I enjoyed my chowder, a few scallops and mainly salmon seemed to be the fish, but the flavour of the chowder was great. Nothing spectaularly innovative, but a good solid place.

I'm not even exaggerating when I say this was one of the best meals of my life. Couldn't fault it, outlook is stunning, food was incredible and the seafood tower was next level. The decor was fancy old school, but even our small kids got into the silver service and the staff were super nice. If I was to change anything, it would be ordering a full sized lobster instead of a half.

Oysters tasted fresh and delicious. And so are our mains. Our cocktails were not the best and found them a little too sweet for liking but overall excellent service and great dining experience.

I had reserved a table more than a week ago, requested for a table by the window. We were given that, thanks. Food was decent, and priced on the high side. Main comment is that the hot food served (eg the quail and and the trevalla) were not hot but at room temperature. Staff were quite friendly. Special shout-out to Debra, who was helpful and provided excellent service. Thank you!

I thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Mures Upper Deck. We had the feed me menu and boy did they! Their seafood was fresh and cooked to perfection! Priced at $65 pp, it was very cheap considering how much they fed us!
Lauren Morris
Perfect spot in Hobart. Great views. Food was nice too, fresh and cooked well. Staff were lovely and attentive. Great selection of wine. Sitting by the window is best. A bit more on the expensive side for lunch but very reasonable for a dinner.

We have always loved coming to Mures because it has the freshest fish available anywhere and you just know it is going to be genuine. Whenever we have visitors from the mainland or overseas this is definitely the first place we would think of to bring them for a nosh up. Highly recommended and have never had a bad meal ever.

Perfect! Amazing food every time we have visited. We're from New South Wales, and the first time we visited, we stumbled across it. Not being a seafood eater, I was pretty hesitant, but decided to give it a go to keep the other half happy. Oh my goodness. We were back the next night. Second visit to Hobart, we pre-booked for 3 out of our 5 nights. If you're looking for a delicious meal, in a beautiful setting, even if you're not a huge fan of seafood, it's worth giving it a go. I rarely eat seafood, but always look forward to our holidays to Hobart, mainly for Mures Upper Deck

Nice food, nice place. Had the fish burger and fish and chips between us. Quite tasty, a little expensive for what it was (its on the Harbour so I guess that’s the price to be paid)
Sandra Nielsen
Had crumbed fish, 2 not very big peaces of fish and heeps of chips $22 bit dear must be type of fish I had it was blue eye trevalla suppose to be very good fish and it was, Ice cream was good value 2 big scoop for $4.90 very tasty

With friends from Brisbane, went to Hobart for a 5-day holiday. Today, we had lunch at Mures (Lower Deck) for our friend's birthday lunch treat. Both the food (reasonable price for sumptuous seafoods) and customer service are amazing. A place you would love to go back. Thanks to Paige & boss Judith. Highly commendable.
Maria Ruello
Had a great lunch with some old friends. Oysters were the best I have had for a long time and the seafood basket delicious. Highly recommended for a relaxed lunch by the sea.

What a fabulous night at Mures Upper Deck. The team's farewell was fabulous - and yes, you managed to embarrass us. The meal that we had (a special tasting of the dishes for the new menu) was AMAZING. Beyond words. Without bias - the best meal that we have had in Tasmania! This new direction is going to push Mures Upper Deck, again, into the forefront of dining in Hobart. Eugene Burgo you are a genius! And THANK YOU so much to the whole team for making our night so special (including the after drinks) Gonna miss you!

Good food, decent size, calamari chips and two salads. Tasted great. Nice spot by the water. Plenty of seating
Lale De Pasquale
My favourite restaurant in Hobart. Friendly service with perfect view and seafood. And of course famous Ice Creams and giant Sunday's ⚘
Lea Newman
Excellent food, friendly staff & quick service. It was lovely sitting having breakfast & looking out over the docks.
Tracey Fellows
Great seafood and location right on the Harbour Great service and staff also Could not fault the place
Rina Ng
The seafood and wine is yummy! We have eaten 3 times during our short stay in Hobart.
Julie Ridgill
The best Oysters we have ever had ... fish batter beautiful and thin.
Katherine
Every dish was quite delicious and fresh. Also quite enjoyed the Lychee cocktail. Thank you for the great service :)
Michmi
Overall a great experience as a tourist restaurant venue on the docks and great views-very friendly service - too attentive at times- perhaps reflective of training- at one time assuming the customers has no wine knowledge/ the price structure for some dishes needs to be revised as do not represent reasonable value for money
Lisa
Service was good, oysters were amazing. The kingfish, scallops, squid, crab was very average, no flavor, no wow factor.

Nice view

We went with a group of friends. Ordered a bowl of soup to share, we asked for extra cutleries to share and this is what we got. Dirty used spoons.
Shane Warren
We had a large group for a set course meal. The service was attentive at the start with the waitress on hand however as the night progressed it declined.
The time taken from order to plates hitting the table was disappointing, we had to go ask how long until service. Even for a large group an hour between meals was too long.
The food itself was not good. Our set menu included pork belly which was undercooked, tempura veggies which were very oily and definately more than a starter sized meal. The main meals didn't hit the mark. The fish and chips option was very oily; beef cheek was bland and while presented well there was not an abundance of flavour on offer.
There was 2 highlights of the night. The wine was local and absolutely delicious and the atmosphere, ambience and decor created a fantastic night.
All in all we enjoyed our night but the food wasn't up to the expected quality we've had before.
Michael Adams
Magnificent .... great food great atmosphere great prices (but well worth it) ... Reservations essential...the catch of the day is straight off the trawler docked out front of the restaurant... no complaints ..highly recommened

We are tourists from Melbourne, this seafood is perfect, the waiter service and environment was amazing , I very enjoy every moment in this restaurant.

We are in Tassie for the first time. Yes, of course we need to go for seafood. We had “high” expectations. First came was the cold shoulder waiter. Oh sorry this is a review about food.

Take two.

First came the baby scallops. They are cute and small from Tassie however the sauce is too sour. Then came the squid from Bass Strait, the look is not everything the chargrilled cos lettuce tasted the best. Then came the panko & almond crumbed wild caught fish of the day. By the colour it looked dry, by the taste it was super dry. Again the chips are the best on the plate. They were crispy in the outside, soft and smooth in the inside. Like what my fish should have tasted.

Last by not least, came the best dish of the meal, expresso brulee. Smooth, not too sweet good hint of coffee. I guess we got to experience something good unexpectedly.

Drinks are average. I guess we didn’t get the Tassie specialities so no further comment.

No second time in any near future visit for us.
Hungry Little Caterpillar
Today we dined from the lunch specials menu. We (2 adults and 2 children) shared the salmon dish which was amazing and the only complaint was there needed to be more sweet potato mash, seafood spaghetti which was my fav and perfect. All the seafood in the mix was cooked perfectly. We also shared the beef cheek which was great too. Kids ate a bit of everything. Everything was perfect and the wine list was very vast with so many great options. Hopefully I have Time to return before heading back to Melbourne.

Came here for dinner on a Saturday night. There was plenty of seating, atmosphere was incredible, menu was exciting, food was absolutely delicious. Def worth a visit. Stag didn’t flinch when I asked for a salad with my fish instead of all the other sides - really great experience.

Food: seafood is FRESH!! Love the ice creams as well - servings are generous

Ambience: family friendly and a ton of seating available

Service: Staff are friendly and fast

Definitely recommend!!
NW
Absolutely fantastic! Went there at late afternoon, nice view of the pier and delicious food. Staffs are friendly and caring. The environment is suitable for chatting and meeting. Surely will go back again!

Seafood was cooked quite well but what ruined the night for us was a very rude staff member that was working at the till. He was extremely patronising and curt in his responses. Disappointing.
Jen
It was average which is always a shame. The oysters were lovely and fresh - 1/2 natural 1/2 Kirkpatrick but to be honest they were nicer downstairs. Scallop entree was terrible ! People don’t want quantity of poor quality - give 2 or3 quality instead. That dish was awful. Mussels were average, sea urchin pasta oily. Mains of laksa ok flavours but prawn not fresh, salmon ok and special of trumpeter average and tasteless. $300 for 3 is ridiculous for this kind of quality. Fish and chips downstairs a million times better
Roy
We attended Mures Upper for dinner around 6PM (peak time) and waited a short 10 minutes for a table to be prepared without reservation.

I had the eye fillet (steak) medium rare with potatoes and spinach. I was quite satisfied but nothing special compared to the likes of other specialty steak establishments but on par with other seafood & steak establishments.

My wife had the seafood platter to herself! She was very impressed and advised me that it is better than anything she’s had anywhere else in Australia. The lobster, oyster and scallops were amazing and I’ve never seen her enjoy a meal and leave so happy.

My daughter enjoyed a kids meal steak with fries which she made a mess of but was enjoyed.

Highly recommended for seafood lovers!!
Esme_X
Had dinner with bestie here on the first day of our Tasmania trip. Fabulous experience - very friendly and zealous staff, professional service, great quality of food. The oysters were quite fresh👍🏼 However, for the laksa, a stronger coconut milk added into the broth will be better, just my personal preference ;)
Will bring my parents here next time!

I was very excited to try Mures upper deck. I had the blue eye travella. It was fresh and melt in the mouth delicious. The staff were warm and friendly and were keen to assist for food allergies. Quirky atmosphere with nautical theme. Lovely view overlooking the marina.
John
Wow. We walked in on a Thursday night with no booking and were seated at a beautiful table right in front of the window with a wonderful view. Staff could not have been more accommodating and professional. But the food..... fresh seafood, treated with respect and cooked to perfection. The oysters with smoked salmon and horseradish were awesome and the Scollops, a very generous serving and wonderful flavors! Salmon and the fancy fish & chips for main, all washed down with a bottle of their house vino, which was also top class. Honestly, we couldn't fault it, hence the 5 star review. A must when visiting Hobart.
Eat Well
Really beautiful food but
Came for a celebration which was noted in the booking but not acknowledged when actually dining. Staff unattentive and borderline rude. Would not go back. Overpriced for the experience
Foodie Paradise
You definitely need a booking here for dinner! We came by on the Easter long weekend and every single night was completely booked out. After reading amazing reviews about the restaurant we then decided to come by for lunch. For entrees we ordered a dozen of natural and kilpatrick oysters. The natural oysters were fresh but not as fresh as the ones you have at oyster farms. Kilpatrick oysters had a very generous sprinkle of bacon which is exactly how it should be done! The abalone was quite average.
For mains we had the seafood laksa, baked white fish and fish and chips. The seafood laksa was packed full of delicious and fresh seafood! The baked white fish was cooked to perfection and was really hot when you cut into it. To my surprise the fish and chips were quite amazing! We thought it was a bit overpriced at first when the fish and chips were almost $40 a serve. However the fish was so so crunchy you could really hear the crunch as you were biting into it! The chips were also done fantastically, it was crunchy on the outside but as soon as you bit into it, it was so soft- so soft it felt like mashed potatoes! No wonder why it was expensive!
The food, in particular the mains definitely did not disappoint!

One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time!
Staff were super professional, knowledgeable & thoughtful with extra attention to detail!
Will definitely return to dine again!
I had the Blue Eyed Trevalla, my wife had the Laksa & we both agreed that Mures deserves 5 stars!
Only minor complaint if I was to be super picky was I would’ve liked a teeny tiny bit more jus but it’s really not even worth mentioning. Also, the fish & the skin on my trevalla were cooked perfectly & the house sav Blanc was also perfect! Great work, thanks Mures! 😄

“You must try local, Tassie seafood,” was the advice of everyone upon mentioning we were doing a Bass Straight crossing.

So on our last night in Hobart, I was madly trying to find Hobart’s best seafood restaurant. I found Mures, the forest green, double-decker building on Hobart’s waterfront. I have no idea whether it’s the best seafood restaurant in Hobart, as I only have a comparison of one, but it was pretty damn good.

First up, we strolled into Mures Lower Deck, which is casual, diner fare. But, we were after something fancier, so headed upstairs to Mures Upper Deck. Despite being booking-less, we were squeezed into a table – a white linened, candlelit table. Hey, we asked for fancy!

While Mures’s styling might be stuck in the 20th century, with its autumn colour palette of burnt red and the pre-mentioned forest green, its seafood is divine.

At least the entree Tasmanian scallops were, and the husband tells me the fish and chips too. But, what did I order for main? Yeah, so I insisted on coming to a seafood restaurant and then ordered the roast pumpkin gnocchi. I’m such a Nimrod! But, it was bloody good gnocchi…
HC
The staff is friendly, the dishes are also good, the oyster are fresh and smooth, fish and chip not like others, I can taste it they use very fresh oil and fish, I will go again when I travel in Tas

Mures Upper Deck came highly recommended as the place for high quality, fresh seafood in Hobart; and as such we decided to visit on our last night in Hobart. The restaurant is impeccably positioned on the waterfront, with lovely views over Constitution Dock waterfront - best enjoyed from one of the window-side tables which we were lucky to have. The menu was full of seafood gems - octopus, calamari, ocean trout, salmon...you name it! In the end, we opted for the West Coast Ocean Trout and the salmon. Amazing! The trout was unlike any trout we'd tasted in Melbourne! Dishes were all excellently prepared, with great creativity in plating and presentation and flavour combinations. The sides, particularly the eggplant, were delicious. A short and sweet dessert menu featured an exquisite poached pear which was divine! While the food was fantastic, the restaurant was unfortunately let down by the service - perhaps it was just the night that we visited; however we felt that the staff could be a little more attentive.

TOURIST TRAP ALLERT!! HORRIBLE SERVICE - AVOID AT ALL CAUSE

Food: Obviously a seafood restaurant - seafood dishes were good but not definitely nothing spectacular for the price. Beautiful ingredients, but uncreative dishes. Nothing that wows.

Meat dishes: please avoid. Eye fillet tasted very odd, and the texture of the lamb was equivalent to an inflight meal. Shouldn’t have offered it on the menu if they can’t cook it.

Atmosphere - beautiful setting, average simple decor.

Service: the highlight of this review.
Wait staffs were generally friendly and helpful. However, our entire dinning experience was completely tarnished by an Australian gentleman that looks like he must have been the restaurant manager.

When enquired why we were short changed by AUD$20, the wait staff took our bill away and disappeared for quite sometime. I then proceeded to the cashier counter to speak with the said manager, who in turn tried to explain the error to me in an extremely passive aggressive manner without apologizing - as if it was our fault to have caught such error (they probably do this rather often to tourists and get away with it I guess).

When I proceeded to enquire more on where the actual over-charge / error was (as his explanation was not entirely clear), the said manager proceeded to speak to me in very.slow.English and asked whether I understood him, which I found very racist, and moreover, extremely condescending.
Never have I once experienced such poor, ill mannered service in a restaurant that called themselves a 5-Star establishment.
With all the Amazing Restaurant offerings in Tassie, avoid Mures upper Deck at all cause.
Mures had the best location, it located at the heart of Hobart waterfront. They have three different types of dining options there. The lower deck served simple, more casual fresh sea food meals. The upper deck offered more formal dining experience. Don't forget the Pearl, it was a lounge/bar inside Mures.
We easily made a booking for dinner via online to dine at Mures Upper Deck. I loved the decoration of this place with large boat/ fish hanging from the roof, also the amazing view/sunset you could enjoy while dine there.
*lobster bisque-not the creamy version, more like the clear soup version with pieces of lobster meat. The flavour of the soup was good, very fresh but little too salty for me, the meat was nice, chewy but tender!
*seafood platter for one-included pan seared scallops, grilled white fish fillet, crispy calamari, smoked salmon, smoked eel salad, cold crystal bay prawn...it was good to share with two people. Crispy calamari was the highlight among them all with crunchy and tender taste. Everything else was good but not great.
*Braised lamb-slow cooked lamb meat served with roasted parsnip and sweet potato purée. I do enjoyed the dish with really really nice flavour of the lamb as well as the herbs and sauce. Recommend!
Of course, you could find more seafood options and fresh oyster here. The dining environment and atmosphere here was great! Good service with high prices for food.

Absolutely sensational, worth every cent, wait staff and food an absolute experience and delight, cant recommend highly enough.. definitely have the oysters
Amant De La Nourriture
Went here for dinner on our first night flying into Tassie. Melt in your mouth Seafood, oysters were like butter. Absolutely beautiful with stunning scenery to accompany your meal. Worth going here, friendly staff, with amazing quality food and wine.

Food 1.5: had delicious salmon (lunch special) over looking the wharf⚓️🚤🛥

Decor 1.5: neat fine dining style ✨

Service 1: a la cart service 💁🏻

We started with Oysters and then had the Seafood Laksa and Wild Fish & Chips - delicious! The service was good, restaurant was a little quiet but we got there quite early. Would definitely go back again.

We dropped into Mures Upper Deck as it was close to our hotel and promised quality seafood. Our server couldn't make eye contact with us or any other tables, seemed to be rambling a script he had no interest in. I asked for gluten free options as I'm celiac - and have an anaphylactic reaction to gluten. He told me they could do "anything on the menu" gluten free. I ordered a beet salad to start. It arrived with goat cheese coated in bread crumbs . I asked the gal who delivered it if it was gluten free and she told me it contained bread crumbs and not gluten free. She then took it away. 20 minutes later they brought some mushy pumpkin instead. We had ordered their special, stuffed trout, and were still waiting for it 20 minutes AFTER the mushy pumpkin delivery. At this point we'd been in the restaurant over an hour, and had only mushy pumpkin and a watery gin and tonic to drink. We then asked when our meal might be out our server said "as soon as it's ready". We eventually walked out of the restaurant and had a fantastic meal instead at Smolt in Salamanca Market.

A catch-up dinner with good friends from uni who were attending the conference took us to Mures, a two-level restaurant that is right on the wharf. We dined at the fancier restaurant on level one, aptly named “Upper Deck”. I’m the kind of person who dislikes drinking white wine by itself but loves pairing it with food. I ordered a nice glass of 2016 Chartley Estate Riesling that paired well with my meal.
Mark Dohrmann
Outstanding seafood in a stunning waterfront location. No quibbles there. Unfortunately, staff had no real knowledge of the menu, couldn't comment on the wines, forgot a simple request, didn't offer dessert, and left us for long periods without explanation. Our foursome had been fine dining for three days in Hobart, and this was a comparative low point. Now we are not precious, impolite or demanding. It's not the staffs' fault - they smile and try. If the wealthy owners invested some of their profits in high level, intensive training, the high prices here might be justified. We'll leave Mures next time.
Pork And Beans
Beautiful view. Amazing food. Prompt service.

We were here with our 2-year old for a late lunch. Fortunately, he was on his best behaviour, and the restaurant was almost empty at this time.

Save this one for date night, and not for a family dinner.

And if your visiting Hobart with kids, go for a late lunch when it's not busy, and keep the kids on a leash.

Great food, very polite waiters! The natural and mures style oysters are very delicious . And the half lobster is tasty! The upper deck and lower has totally different way to cook, I suggest to try both.
Maud Peareth
my wife had a half lobster, cost $120, and compared to the previous times she had lobster in the last 12 months, see photos below, it was not worth the money, it had no taste and we are sure it had been frozen then thawed to serve to her. The photos below are, from the left, the lobster she had at the Gold Coast Qld in June 2016 which cost $90 and was served with lots of salad, the middle photo was of a lobster she had at the Gold Coast in November 2016, cost $95 and was served with lots of fruit and saled, and the lobster on the right end photo was at Mures, no taste and overpriced for a half lobster compared to the full lobster served both times at the Gold Coast for much less money, and she had one bite, said Ech, and ate no more, what a waste of money that was!

Came in as a 4 walk in on Monday night. Ordered mains and drinks. Everything was done well and service was great. Eye fillet done well, duck Maryland was tender and tasty, premium white fish well cooked and the special (smoked quail) was delish but blue cheese aioli was a bit strong. Very happy, you get what you pay for.

I heard mixed reviews about Mures, but from all the places I've explored and read reviews of during my Hobart stay, I've surmised that a lot of Hobartians have a chip on their shoulder which colours their reviews! Mures Upper Deck was great! Yes, in Sydney, the decor would've been totally re-done by now, but the food was great, absolutely up to standard, and the wine and view were wonderful too.

Came here for lunch with my family. We've ordered garden salad, mixed oysters, salmon, trout and eye fillet medium rare. Food is amazing and delicious!!! Their little bread is nice and we ordered twice hahaha. The only thing I didn't expect is their sparking water, I thought is free cuz normally restaurants will provide free sparking water, but they charged us $9 per bottle. :( but anyway I would highly recon this place for lunch or dinner!
AK
Great service and great location but the place is overrated - food is very old school and passé, felt like 1990's time warp..this is a missed opportunity
Michelle Chua
Ordered the grilled fish and it taste just alright . The texture of the skin taste better than the fish meat itself. Chips is crispy and delicious! However, many have different preference. Still love it though. Definitely a nice location but be aware that if u leave ur food alone for 2 seconds ; ur food will be gone eaten up by the seagulls :)

The Mures Upper Deck staff were so polite and accommodating, providing us with a table within 10 minutes of arriving on a busy night, even though we didn't have a booking. All wait staff were so professional and had a great knowledge of the food and drinks. The food was amazing! And really great portion sizes! We expected fancy meant small... especially entrees, but everything was really substantial and we left uncomfortably full but very satisfied. Even the gin and tonic I ordered was the most flavourful I've ever had. It's a pricey restaurant but worth it for a honeymoon treat 😉
Service with a smile at this Mures. You can just see the pride all the staff have in their food and this establishment.
I had the baby snapper special with a trout salad on the side. It was a huge and delicious meal.
If they for some reason bought out another snapper I would be a complete glutton and attempt to eat a second one.
The tastiest fish I've ever eaten, cooked to absolute perfection, finished of on a bed of greens and orange sauce, which at first I though was strange but complimented the fish nicely.
Definitely going back.
Mmm Food 33
Yes we had been told to come to nurse for the seafood and it was great. We just had two seafood players for four and wow a great lot of delicious seafood from the crab to the scallops and grill prawns was great and fresh as you would like. Staff are very happy to. We will back before we go thanks

Our first dinner under our updated relationship status (engaged in case you're wondering), and what a great way to do it. Mures provides local, sustainable produce, seafood and wines.
We had the scallop and squid entrees and both were delicious.
For mains we had the trout and the salmon and again both were excellent.
The surprise of the night for us - given it is a seafood restaurant, were the desserts. We had the poached pear and the creme brûlée and hey were D.E.L.icious!
The local Derwent Valley Pinot Noir was also excellent.
Will definitely come back here on out next visit.
Our Foodie Finds
A great view with a great meal is a great way to end a trip. Before the flight home back to Melbourne we decided to grab a bite and where better than just right across from our hotel at the Grand Chancellor over at Mures Upper Deck. Sitting right on Victoria Dock off Davey Street with a beautiful view of the boats accompanied with a beautiful blue sky, warm ambience of the restaurant and very welcoming service from the staff, is a hidden gem of Hobart which delivered as expected.

The bass straight squid $18.0 for entrée was delicious, soft and tender which delighted through every single bite as well as the Seafood Chowder $18.0 that had wild fish, salmon, trout, mussels, prawns and charred garlic croustad. For the main, a well structured and balance dish was the Huon Atlantic Salmon $38.0 which had crispy skin, rose cherry tomato, olive, prosciutto, feta salad and caramelized apple balsamic as well as the Diana Line caught wild fish $38.0 served with slow roasted beetroot, creamy risotto, grana padang and crisp basil. Delicious and simple. No room for dessert this time but will make sure to have some next time. Off to the airport to return back to Burn City we go.

A real delight and a great way to end the trip to lovely Tasmania. Till next time, this is Our Foodie Find!

Amazing service !!
Amazing food !!!
Freshest, tastiest oysters, salmon was cooked to perfection
We had a window seating position & would highly recommend, we will be back !

Great spot by the window I had tasmanian scallops for entrée which were delicious. Had the seafood platter for main which was also pretty good. Friend had the laksa which was incredibly tasty! James our waiter was great as well with wine recommendations and great service.
Who Loves Good Food
The upper deck has a nice roomy ambience. However, there was quite a bit of waiting - first for the table & later for the mains to be served.
The Oyster Kirkpatrick was spectacular, yum!
The Seafood Chowder was delightful, very rich & generous.
The kids mains were nice & served very fast. However, there was a very long wait for the main mains. The seafood platter for one was good for two. The seafood basket for two was really for three. We over ordered & drowned in too much deep fried seafood.

The problem is that I'm really really really good at cooking salmon. I don't mean to brag but when we go to the South Melbourne Market we get the New Zealand or Tasmanian filets and I've gotten really good at it. Perfectly crispy skin (mastered this by watching about 30 YouTube videos, literally) with yummy seasoning never ever cooked over medium. At Mure's, my salmon dish had a lot going on. Roasted cherry tomatoes, dried figs, lemon butter dressing, green beans, and some pancetta. Don't get me wrong, I understand which track the flavor train was heading, I just wasn't on board. Too much for me. The figs were just too sweet. My wife's white fish (can't recall the species :( sorry) was very meaty and hearty. Quite good. But again, the accompaniment was odd. This time the textures. There was a scallop moose that IMO completely missed the mark. Fish was placed on a bed of sautéed onions and asparagus which were a bit oily. Positives: oysters were great and my wife reported that here seafood bisque/chowder was tasty. Service was iffy. Everyone was real nice but I asked multiple questions and none of he staff knew the answers. They got components of the dishes incorrect. When paying $42 for salmon & $38 for white fish I expect a higher level of knowledge from the staff. Also, fingerprints in the cutlery, not cool from a 'high end' establishment.

Then, wanting to try everything, we decided to share the Mures Seafood Basket for two ($90.00). It had a bit of everything – nori crumbed blue eye trevella, beer battered fish of the day, crumbed scallops, Bass Strait squid, grilled prawns and salmon skewers, and a very decent serving of waffle fries. The salmon, prawns and fish were all absolutely phenomenal – again, soft, buttery and fresh, no knife was necessary for any of the fish, it all fell apart at the touch of the fork.
Laura Nicholson
Lovely, food was delicious and the view was spectacular. BIG difference between lower and upper, we wandered up thinking it would be quite casual but it's more fine dining than you would think. Fish and chips were delicious, without being greasy, and seafood platter was very well done and a generous serve.

Sunday dinner 24/01/16
After reading some savage reviews we decided to give Mure's a chance. I was expecting all the bad stuff! Bad food, expensive and poor service. I could not have been wrong. From the moment we arrived we were met with smiles and friendly faces. We were looking for the ridiculously expensive items on the menu but there were none. We ordered the seafood basket for two at $90 and every mouth full was delicious. Freshly cought fish, scallops, prawns ect, after speaking with the manager we found out he had taken over 7 months ago and has been changing the image of ever since. I can tell you that he has achieved his goal. Please get down and give mure's another chance!

Luke Nevill
Awful. Had reasonable expectations that were soon shattered when the seafood platter for 2 arrived. Salt and pepper squid batter was floury, undercooked and served cold. Oysters on the platter were small and the tartare sauce was really underwhelming (comparable to sour cream with some herbs thrown in).

Seafood chowder was decent, as was the service.

Pork belly was dry and the sauce was far too sweet.

Considering the prime location, the food is nothing to brag about.

Very sorry for the review but we won't be coming back.

the fillet is the worst one i had. the squid is good enough. never try again. never.never. never. never. never. the manager is not very satisfying.

This is my 5th visit. I visited last night and tonight and specifically came to Tasmania from Melbourne for Mures Upper Deck. Last night I had a half a dozen natural oysters for entree with the seafood platter for one for my main.. Tonight I had the cold tasting platter for entree and another seafood platter for one for my main. For a family of 4 (2 kids under 5) we spent about $500 for both nights and it was well worth it.! The seating near windows, clean high chairs, the service made us feel like royalty, the floor supervisor has an extensive wine knowledge and the staff attentive and professional.! The food cannot be faulted and was perfect!! If you're after fresh seafood I highly recommend.!

An absolutely delicious meal. The cold tasting plate with a selection of seafood was bursting with flavour. The confit duck melted in the mouth. We asked for liqueur coffees but were served affogatos - still nice but not what we expected. The wine was extremely pricey compared with what we are used to in Sydney which made it an expensive night but the service and food made it worth the cost.

We wandered over here after being unable to grab a quick pub meal. Decided on the upper deck, over the lower deck, given the amount of fried and non-gluten free items in the lower deck bistro menu. We hadn't booked, so needed to wait about 30mins for a table, which worked out well - we sat at the bar and had some drinks while we waited. The entree main and dessert were all superb - cannot fault the food. Service was discreet but attentive. We would have loved table with a water view. Great spot and really lovely food. Would recommend and come again.

We went here on our last night in Hobart as Mures is meant to be a Hobart seafood institution. The waiter was a bit odd but seemed to be trying. He gave us a good wine recommendation - the Domaine A Cabernet blend. The sommelier brought us the wine and insisted we both smell the cork which we found quite strange. Our oysters and mixed seafood entree were lovely. However the buerre blanc with one of our fish mains was so acidic with lemon juice - it was completely inedible. We mentioned it to the waiter but he told us it was meant to be lemon buerre blanc and asked if we were therefore ok with it. We said 'not really but we will battle on" and he left us to it! At the end of the meal we reiterated that the buerre blanc wasn't good and he said he had mentioned it to the chef however there wasn't any apology or any offer of recompense. Our other main was essentially fancy fish and chips and for two small pieces of fish, with chips and salad, for around $38, was completely over priced. We also had to pour our own wine all night. The evening started well but the poor service and mains let down the overall evening. It wouldn't take much to improve these issues and make Mures a really good seafood destination. However the tourist trade seems to have influenced the level of service and the presentation of the dishes over the actual taste which is a shame. Repeat custom doesn't seem to be so important to them unfortunately. We will try elsewhere next time we are in Hobart.

Lovely restaurant above the upper deck on the wharf. Beautiful decor and ambience. Staff was professional and food is quite fresh and delicious. Wayne our waiter gave us great ideas on attractions and advice on vineyards.

Travelling from WA we were eager to find a seafood restaurant in Hobart that would deliver some delicious, fresh seafood. Mure's Upper Deck did not disappoint in that aspect!

Amongst the table, all seafood dishes were served quickly but did not lack in quality. The blue eyed trevalla & Tasmanian scallop dish is known as their specialty dish for a reason. The fish was melt in your mouth and the vegetable sides and bernaise sauce that accompanied it were a perfect match. The seafood platter arrived as the hero, served "crate" style, and again all beautifully fresh. The only fault that could be found in the food was that the prawn curry did not arrive with the yogurt side as stipulated on the menu.

Service was very attentive and welcoming, but we did dine early and it was mid week so the restaurant was not busy. You are looking at a pricey meal but it's the usual "you get what you pay for" and good quality seafood comes at a price.

*Only a minor negative, although their wine list is extensive, they didn't have several of the wines we wanted to order which was disappointing.

well, not recommended! the first time to write a comment for a restaurant. And this is the first time that I felt so angry about a restaurant. Book a reservation for 6:30, the restaurant is quiet empty, wait for 20 mins and still no one help us to sit. Just want to ask somebody to check if there is any problem with our reservation, the manager is rude and just ignore us. Other waitress is helpless and show no respect. Only answer that we get is ' sit down and wait' the food is okay but over charge, it is the worst dining experience ever had!

We visited Mures upper deck during our recent trip to Hobart. Mures had been recommended to us by a number of people. We certainly did not leave disappointed. Service was fantastic and the food was amazing. I would happily return. Fishmongers Stew is a must.

Not Returning in a Hurry. I’m aware that Mures Upper Deck recently received quite a scathing restaurant review. I haven’t read that review and am basing this review on my own recent experience, which was a lunchtime business dinner last week. We arrived on time and were seated in the separate room just near the entrance with views over the fish punts. The restaurant was lovely and warm, which was really welcome, given it was a very cold day out.

The restaurant was not at all busy and there were only two other tables with diners; a total of maybe 15 people in the restaurant. The waiter was very friendly and attentive and took our drinks orders and gave us ample time to select our lunch preferences.

The meal orders were taken efficiently. When the meals came out, there was an apology as one meal (the pie) was not to the chef’s liking as apparently the top of the pie was a little burnt. The rest of us started while another meal was prepared. My meal was quite nice. However the other person that had ordered the pie (which was a really large serving, by the way) ended up sending their meal back because the pie was actually cold inside – not cool, but cold – it had clearly been refrigerated and not cooked properly. We received an apology and the meal was taken back and reheated. The second pie that came out late actually ended up being only lukewarm as well. That person actually felt too embarrassed to say anything, given one meal had already been sent back, so just at the meal as it was. Very unsatisfactory to have it happen twice. While my meal was lovely, I’ve felt for a long time that the prices are Mures Upper Deck are a bit on the high side for what you end up getting.

The décor of the restaurant is really dated and it looks quite daggy. The restaurant has amazing views and it’s time for the restaurant to make use of those natural assets and tidy the place up a lot. The natural wood really dates the place as does the carpet. The bathrooms are renovated and in my opinion, are the classiest parts of Mures. Apparently there’s a plan to make the restaurant better but they need to move quickly and fix the issues.

Not looking to return any time soon, especially with the abundance of great restaurants in Hobart.
Mon's Adventure
We also couldn’t leave Tassie without one last platter of oysters – our favourite was the Tasmanian Mornay with white sauce and gruyere. Deliciously cheesy.

The food was great. The service was excellent, discreet and professional.
Highly recommended.

Yum! We went back twice in a week cause we loved it so much the first time, the low scores makes no sense to me.

The Fawlty tower restaurant. Mures, do you call that a restaurant. They cannot get a simple piece of steak right. My father ordered a medium rare steak and then it came out well done. I liked the scallops and creme brulee. the main was digusting.

Don't ever go there

Great evening. Good quality, friendly service, fresh ingredients and generous portion. I recommend this place.

Not fine dining. A disappointing evening.. Friendly but poorly trained staff. Very slow service. Un- exciting wine and very average food. The only positive was the freshness of the seafood.
Could not recommend ..

Great evening. Was looking for a special restaurant for our anniversary and Mure's Upper Deck fit the bill. Service was excellent, food was even better. We had the special evening we had hoped for. Thanks Mure's staff for making a memorable night for us!
CR
Excellent food. We really enjoyed our dinner here. We started off with oysters, octopus, and whitebait, followed by trevally for three of us and salmon for one. Everything was flawless and very tasty. A bottle of Mures Chardonnay went well with our meal, and desserts were good as well. Yes, it's pricey, came to nearly $80 a head, and they could have set it up a bit more as a fine-dining place, but the beautiful view, friendly service and excellent food made it a very good experience.

Delicious. We ordered the Signature Platter Main for the two of us. While on the pricy side, the meal was excellent. Well presented and fresh. Favours were well developed and inviting.

Service was top notch. Wait staff were courtous, knowledge and friendly.

Will return next time we are in Hobart.

Mures upper deck. Would have to be the worst seafood restaurant I have been to. The service was good but I have had a better meal at the local fish and chip shop. Way too expensive for the miserly portions and average quality
A rip off!!!!

Hong Kong Tourist -awful experience dining in Mures-upper deck of Hobart- tasmania. We were tourist came from Hong Kong on September 2014 to visit Australia in particular Tasmania for 7 days, the last stop was Hobart.

We arrived and wanted to have a good dinner at Hobart waterfront before leave on the next day. So checked the tourist guide book and chosen Mures-upper deck. My daughter checked from net and found that scoring very low-59% and overwhelmingly bad reviews, then she advised not to go but I insisted got to try.

We were there and ordered a seafood plater-AUD185-a very wrong decision that we had made-foods were totally bland & unfreshness : the bait was fishy, the mussel had odor smell, the oyster was not fresh, the fish for fish & chips was pre-boiled prior dipped into batter for fry, totally bland, not juicy and tough, the bug was bland and unfreshness smell, the cup topped up with cooked rice and a few pieces of squid on top.in particular there was no crayfish/lobster at all (in the menu state have a crayfish/lobster)...........a horrible dinner spoiled our appetite that made us just tasted a bite and gave up asked for the manager, who eventually came 18 minutes later ( not immediately came to solve the problem), my daughter explained to him our unsatisfactory, he explained the mussel was marinated before cooked,.....how come a fresh mussel needed to be marinated? We wanted to taste fresh seafood. INCREDIBLE!!!. the others has no explanations. Then he took away the seafood plater and told us will discuss with chef. So he gone away and didn't return, no apology, no explanation.

We waited about 20 minutes, later on the waitress came and offer coffee or tea on the house but we declined and paid and left. We have to bought fish & chips from the barge nearby for our dinner..

Decided to Mures-upper deck was totally my fault (a tourist) --a disaster.

If we could score Mures, it will definitely below 50%, absolutely below average or less.

I would advise the tourist : Don't go to Mures.

Do not trust the tourist guide book.

Do check from the net before you go.

Mure's upper deck restaurant. Had a meal at Mure's upper deck a week ago and was not impressed.
From the moment we arrived, needed to ask for service ie menus, clear dishes and most importantly, where is our main course? Only to be told by our waiter 'do you want the truth'?
The manager ignored us and the situation and we would not ever consider returning.
Appaling service.
Tony
Time warp. Unfortunately Mures upstairs is stuck in a time warp. The fish is fresh but the meals are something from a bygone era. The location is fantastic but the decor is dated. The bare oak tables with paper table napkins is not is expected in a restaurant charging premium prices.. The service level is average and for example when we left after our dinner there was no one to see us out. I suppose there is little interest in repeat custom given the flow of tourists
Una Lau
Perfect for tourists who would never go back again. It locates at a perfect spot; waterfront with a romantic view to the sea with no obstruction. Already presenting itself to be a fancy restaurant with quality food. We dined here during our recent trip to Tasmania. We decided to indulge ourselves in the seafood platter (which with amazing description on the menu). It comes with chowder soup, which was quite tasty, despite it's presentation; in a white asian type of "rice bowl". Then came the two-tier platter. It got oysters, mussels, a little bit of fresh salmon, prawns, fried fish, char-grilled squid, tempura prawns, whitebait, fettucini marinara and a bug.

Oh, where is the crayfish/lobster that was on the menu? Did not see the whitebait in the description, otherwise we wouldn't have ordered that for the entree, dang. Where are the condiments that were included? hmmm

It looked amazing in first glance, yes, it was presented well. It looked full, but with a closer look it was full with salad leaves underneath. I don't mind salads, greens are good for you. But I don't pay almost $200 for salads. We had fresher and bigger ones in Tassie than these sad and skinny tasteless oysters , mussels and prawns were not fresh, whitebaits are fishy (very consistent in both the entree and platter though), tempura prawns were soggy, fried fish was overcooked, tough and dry. We were hungry, so we still managed to finish almost half but we could not carry on. With high expectations but disappointed badly, we decided to reflect our views to the waitress. She listened very patiently asked if we would like to talk to the manager. It was not a full house but guess he must still have lots to take care of, so when we finally get to talk to him, we nearly finished our drinks. He listened and took the platter away to discuss with the kitchen. During this time, we were offered desserts and teas and coffees. However we were too full with our disappointments and could not fit in anymore.

When the bill came, without "disappointment", only our 3 drinks were waived.

In simple, it does not intend to have "customer retention program". With a constant flow of tourists, who cares if they will return for meals?

I'm not much of a seafood fan but Mure's was great! Knowledgable and friend staff and great food!
Would recommend!
Aussie Ginger
Best chowder ever!. My extended family and I went to Mure's last night and had a great time. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and were great when I asked for a menu alteration as I can't have onion it wasn't a problem. For entree we had the pacific oysters - delicious, the octopus and chorizo - amazing, the whitebait - amazing but would have liked aioli to go with it, and the sardines - also amazing. The seafood chowder for main was definitely the winner, although I had the trevalla which was beautifully cooked. Dessert was also a winner, with the brulee and duo of puddings not disappointing. We were the last to leave as it was a family reunion and the staff were very patient about letting us stay well beyond closing time. Would definitely go back. PS they also made a very good martini!

I can't understand how this place has such a low rating. A stranger in the street recommended this place to us. The food was beautiful and the service was exceptional also.
Karina
The service was exceptional. The food was beautiful and view was stunning.

I work in the hospitality industry and know how much people whinge about the most trivial things, so usually I don't pay much attention to restaurant reviews. This however is an occasion I wish I had taken the advice of fellow diners and gone elsewhere! The plus points: the wine is all Tasmanian, I really liked that. The not so plus points: the service was lacking greatly - our waitress was perfectly pleasant but seemed really distracted, we asked a couple of questions and they were met with a vacant response so we just told her not to worry, she went on her way and we were none the wiser. For entree I had the prawns and scallops and my dining partner had the Morton bay bugs - which she really enjoyed to be fair, mine was completely bland. For mains she had the snapper special and I had the paella - again, bland, boring and the portions were way too big. We decided to decline the offer of dessert and go straight for the bill, which was enormous! I live in Perth so am used to inflated prices but this was ridiculous! After we left we jumped in a taxi and told the driver about our experience, he told us that none of the local people eat there and it's well known for its average food. All in all it was one of the most underwhelming dining experiences I've had in a long, long time. I hate to complain but parting with money for below average, boring food really annoys me! If you're thinking about eating here I'd urge you to reconsider.
Lone Wolf
Honestly, I could have gained more satisfaction buying a plate of fish and chips on the waterfront and throwing the rest of my $200+ bill in the harbour.
Outdated decor, teenage automaton wait staff and tasteless food were the catch of the day here. For some reason the place is purpetually busy, but a quick look around explains that. It seems a lot of people of a certain age are willing to accept a really outdated way of doing business. Plastic sleeved menus and all.
Please, if you appreciate good Melbourne style service, furniture from this century and seafood treated respectfully on your plate, DON'T go to Mures.
HG
Trust previous reviews..... This place is lacking in service & flavours!! It has the low rating for a very good reason. Many other great places to try... Move on to a better place. This is ok if you want simple fish and chips but at a high end price.
CsHc
My girlfriend and I had dinner on valentines day at mures upper deck, the service was fantastic from the bartender to Alice our waitress who was particularly very friendly and attentive. We ordered the seafood platter which was amazing - super fresh and cooked/prepared to perfection. Would highly recommend Mures to everyone and would like to thank Alive for ensuring we had a memorable occasion.
Food 2 Run
30 min wait for take away flathead and chips...
Ronak Moussavi
Excellent service. great food. I don't understand why people have left negative feedback on either good or the prices. I had the chicken wrapped in Prosciuotto and my partner had the flathead, both were great and worth every cent!
KJ
Was very disappointed. Staff were friendly and helpful, but the food was very disappointing. We ordered the seafood platter - at $125. I've had better seafood at the fish & chip shop. So disappointing for what was going to be our seafood feast while we were in Tassie.
Blackisblack
Inflexible. Even though there are a limited number of gluten free options on the menu, I was most upset that they couldn't offer gluten free chips, as a side dish, rather than battered, spiced chips. It isn't really that difficult to do, and a basic expectation of a seafood restaurant. I won't be returning.

Dinner 26/10/2013. It was a busy Saturday night and our booking was at 830pm. We were directed to the coktail bar as our table wasn't quite ready. We only waited a short time. The staff were very attentive. Food arrived quickly and was delicious and cooked to perfection - even though the scallops were on the smaller side. We had a mixed selection of oysters for entree - the jalapeno ones were a standout for anyone who likes a little kick.
I'd definitely go back based on both the food and the helpful service.
Chook
Great food!. We had a lovely lunch here on the weekend, the seafood was fresh and very tasty. Some of the nicest fish I have eaten. Good view and happy with the service. Highly recommend it.
Erikka
Food and table by the window was delightful. Delay of 40 minutes from the basket of bread to our mains. My salmon came out raw which I returned and my partner was finished his mains by the time mine came and our sides. Nice staff but delays and raw(and cold) fish is unacceptable given the prices and fish being their main produce.
Foodie1357
Great service and amazing seafood platter! Really enjoyed our whole experience at the mure
Kattis
Yummy seafood!. Had a lovely late lunch on a sunny afternoon. I ordered the Seafood Basilica and my fiancé had the Seafood Platter. The food was fresh and tasty and the service was friendly! Will definitely visit again when next time in Hobart! :)
Alex
It really needs an injection of capital, and an imaginative chef that they are willing to pay some bucks for because for the location it deserves better, fresh bland seafood and early nineties decor is not enough
Gary
Really disappointed. Seafood was fresh but lacks any taste whatsoever. Seafood bouillabaisse taste like tomato soup and other fish that's supposed to be infused with lemongrass, kaffir lime etc was tasteless. Best bit about the meal was the truffled butter that was served with the bread.
Hipster
Excellent food and service. The trvella was fresh and nicely grilled. Portion was big. The waitress was very attentive. We were offered free tea and coffee as we had been waiting for our mains for over 20 min. We didn't ask for it but she just offered cox we looked bored and kept looking around. Definitely will come back if I am in Hobart again!
Kate Johanna
Simply beautiful! The oysters were the best we have ever had, so fresh! Well worth trying natural for the fresh ocean flavour. We've been here twice for dinner out of a three night stay, highly recommend!
Stok Pot
Fantastic! The service was outstanding, the decor and set up is great and the seafood platter for two was perfect. The wine list is extensive and well matched to the food on the menu. Massive thumbs up...
Brendonpw
Great seafood but you pay for the view. Same produce downstairs and a lot cheaper.
David Hanlin
This place is everything Hobart, great service from a true local, fresh food and a wide range, serving size very good and good value.. We had a seafood platter for two with fresh lobster and everything was great. i would strongly recommend this place if in town and wanting a seafood dinner or stop.
The Shazbot
Great food, Great views. Mures has never dissapointed me. The food is fresh and amazing. Not sure why people think its pricy when a seafood platter for 2 is $89 and all fresh and oh so filling. The desserts are well worth trying to find extra space.
Crema Noisette
Ok for some good fresh seafood. This place is right on the waterfront and has the price to match. The food is good and seafood is fresh but it's nothing to write home about.
Steven
Have seen the bad reviews on urbanspoon and after eating there I must say I am a little surprised. My partner and I shared oysters kilpatrik and the squid entree, oysters were just okay but the squid was sensational. I ate the salmon and my partner had the blue trevale and both were very good, maybe a little overpriced but the meals were good. The highlight was the dessert, coffee semi freddo, one of the best desserts I have ever had. Service was okay. Would recommend for anyone who loves seafood
Katie
Somewhat overpriced. I found that the Restaurant lived up to it's reputation in that the food was fresh & of good quality but pricey. As that was what we expected, we weren't disappointed! I was somewhat surprised that the lunch menu didn't have a larger variety to choose from. My Dory ($26.90) was flavoursome & cooked to perfection, the vegies were lovely & crisp. My Husband's seafood platter ($39.90) was a good size & he was happy with the selection. A free glass of wine was on offer with each main meal purchased which helped take the edge off the prices! The winelist is extensive & actually quite well priced. A number of quality wines around the $25 mark. We had the Creme Brulee & the Cheesecake for desert. Upon ordering the cheesecake our waitress was quick to point out that the it was 'deconstructed'. We were glad that she did as we would've been shocked had we not been forewarned. I don't consider 2 scoops of cheesecake filling with a few mounds of crumbs either side a cheesecake... deconstructed or otherwise. Yes, it was flavoursome, but it lacked body. We found the staff to be very attentive & knowledgeable. We had a lovely window table which enhanced the dining experience, but had we been seated smack bang in the middle of the restaurant I doubt that our experience would've been as pleasant.
Jimbo
Split decision. We dined at Mure's with a late booking - 8.30pm we were seated and the waitress scurried off to bring us water, the restaurant was only half full by this time so at 9pm with still no water and no menus we were debating whether to leave when another waitress arrived to take our order. On explaining we had no water and no menus she offered us two complimentary glasses of wine. They arrived with the menus and shortly after we placed our orders. Unfortunately the mussels were off the menu due to a recall so we had a calamari dish and gnocci dish. The gnocci dish proving to be the better of the two. Mains were a seafood jambalaya and boarfish as the advertised special of ling had run out, lucky for me as the boarfish dish was excellent.
I had cherry fudge, icecream, toasted marshmallow sundae desert which was just the right size and delicious.

We had heard a couple of discussions with patrons and staff about incorrect bills as we were waiting to be seated so we checked our bill carefully to find we had been charged for 3 mains instead of 2. This was rectified and although my meals were excellent and I'd be happy to give this place another try my partner wasn't as impressed.
Sir Lunchalot
A seafood restaurant should at least be able to do seafood!
Willyrangers
Welcoming service with experienced French waiter. Had hot and cold seafood platters at around $80 for two , with chips. Good cob bread. Good value with mix of oysters, mussels, calamari, prawns, fish. Excellent house Pinot grigio. Around $130 all up for two
Michael Spinks
You can't fault the location but unfortunately you can fault the food and the service. For what you pay this place is way way way overpriced. Forget booking a meal upstairs, eat the same stuff downstairs for half the price.
Brad Annakin
Tired decor, poor service, waited over an hour for uncooked meals. I wouldn't recommend anyone to eat there.
Adze
Friendly staff, really helpful with my dairy intolerant, gluten free, partners requirement . I found the food tasteful and abundant
Tony Ramos
GORDON RAMSEY PLEASE HELP MURES UPPER DECK! I think the chef has lost his touch. Food is flavorless, and nothing seems to be fresh beside the oysters. I don't think I would enjoy it even though I was intoxicated. VERY DISAPPOINTING !!!!!!
Baz4shaz
Great views and good service, pity about the food. My kingfish with chimichurri sauce was a great dissappointment!!! Such a lovely fish drowned in a tonne of citrus juice and zest that included the bitter bitter rind!
Nell Grace Mannion
If I had read the reviews before I sat down to order, I wouldn't have chosen to eat here, but the service was great, very efficient and friendly. Food was actually quite tasty, ordered the seafood selection, squid and kingfish was cooked to perfection, but probably not worth the $40 payed for it!
Li Eon
Please avoid this one. While service was generally good and orders were quick to arrive, the food disappointed. I ordered the grilled king fish and it was over cooked, quite chewy and tasted bland. It seemed as though the chef had no experience in cooking up a good piece of fish. My dad ordered the seafood pasta and it was also tasteless and somewhat watery. For the price we were paying (~$34), the food was severely underwhelming and left us disappointed. We could have ordered a good tasty basket of fish and chips at the stalls outside for a fraction of the price. In conclusion, do yourselves a favor and pick somewhere else for seafood.
Lucas Yodobashi
Unimpressed by the overpriced seafood pasta that I ordered.Whilst the seafood was fresh, the pasta sauce was too watery and lacked flavour... It seemed somewhat unseasoned. The smoked trout salad that my mum ordered also lacked flavour and looked like something that anyone could whip up easily at home. This place is definately over rated and i dont understand why its such a popular place here. Besides that, they have a very limited menu. I was very disappointed by the food and will definately NOT come back!!!
Mark Webster
Extremely overated!. Unfortunately for this tired, dowdy & very overrated restaurant, its better days are clearly behind it!

We were expecting something a little special from Mure's Upper Deck, but instead, we were treated to a mundane and boring luncheon.

There is nothing particularly wrong with the food, it is good quality, however, when a restaurant is hyped up so much, just providing good quality food is not enough!

The service was, well.. boring.. and the atmosphere and surrounds were less than inspiring.. This restaurant needs a MAJOR re-vamp, and the staff, as ''nice'' as they were.. need to be sent back to ''restaurant school'', with some personality tutoring on the side!
Mark Keane
Nice setting. Fantastic service. Pitty they can't cook seafood!
Irene Wyld
For a restaurant that has built a significant reputation it was somewhat disappointing in reality. Cumin prawns and the mussels as entrees were fantastic. The seafood platter for one as a main at nearly $56 really let the meal down. Although well presented and with some lovely options it was not good value for money. The shrimp included as part of this platter was particularly disappointing. Not crunchy enough to eat head and all and far too small to bother trying to peel. Would have been much nicer to have four of the cumin prawns on this platter. Overall it Feels like mures is trading on it's reputation rather than the quality of it's food. First time ever that we haven't left a tip.

Hobart's classy seafood. It seems like each Australian capital city (although maybe not Canberra) has a top-of-the-ladder restaurant overlooking the waterfront, the sort of place where you go to see the view as much as for the food. In Melbourne it's the Stokehouse, Sydney has Icebergs, and Hobart has Mure's Upper Deck.

Mure's makes the most of its high-perched location on a dock in the harbour, with big windows and nautical decor. They don't just rest on the picturesque, either. We were impressed with the freshness of their oysters and seafood, to which they add "Mod AustralAsian" touches like panko breading, mirin marinades ("mirinades?") and star anise garnishes. Excellent wine list replete with Tassie vintages, too. Great place if you want to splash out for a big night on the town.
I Ate My Way Through
The ever-changing menu signifies a strong focus on fresh seafood... and that's exactly what I've enjoyed about Mures Upper Deck. It was fresh produce served a little bit fancy.
