Review Mr. Good Guy Hobart - Hobart

Fantastic dining experience with authentic food and generous servings. Plenty of seating available but bookings recommended for weekend. Beer on tap selection is pretty good, and service is friendly and efficient. Only had the chicken satay (yum!) and beer. Will come back again to try their mains next time.

Vibrant decor and a large, comfortable space let down by inattentive service. Staff were polite and dishes were served fast. The crispy pork belly was crispy but very chewy, the braised pork belly was tender but with a rubbery rind and served with an overpowering soy caramel sauce. Fried brussels sprouts were great, potato gems very good but their hoisin sauce also a little much. Wait staff never came back to clear plates, check drinks or offer desert. A more expensive restaurant than the food and service deserves.

Mr. Good Guy knows what he does best: Asian kitchen S42°53.177' E147°19.536' In the new Ibis Styles Hobart hotel at Macquarie St., a large area open space on the ground floor has been converted into a bar and dining area with open kitchen. It is not a romantic place, but the interior designers have done their best to create a more intimate place. The Lonely Planet speaks highly of the food in this must-visit restaurant. In February 2020, we ordered the pescatarian banquet ($45) with salmon entrée, Thai fish cake, spring rolls, salmon and massaman curry with rice. In general, the dishes were well presented and tasted good. We loved the salmon entrée and spring rolls. Excellent. Thai fish cakes were delicious. The massaman curry could not compete with the other dishes in flavour, but the delicious rise compensated for this. We concluded our dinner with jasmine tea. Our waitress, Sarah, gave good advice on dishes without meat products and the service went smoothly. We enjoyed the fine Asian dishes of Mr. Good Guy. Recommended.

Amazing food. Probably the most authentic laksa to be had in Hobart. Aesthetically pleasing (food and environment). I ate before I could take a photo of my food but was well worth the money. I think the prices are quite reasonable. The ales were good as well. The staff are very lovely and good to chat to and are good with recommendations as well. Am planning on going back! I recommend for individuals, couples and large groups.

I am sure this will become 'a must eat here' for modern Asian food in Hobart. Located to the side of the Iris Styles Hobart property - it is a large, airy, spacious and colourful eating space serving a great take on Asian cuisine. There are 'small' or 'large' choices from the extensive menu. Couple that with a bar set at the front of the premises ... Think this will be a drink-after-work spot for many working in that part of the city. Can't wait for the alley-way come summer. The prospect of al fresco dining there appeals

While staying at the ibis hotel, this place was very convenient. The Hainan chicken though was not up to par with what you find in Singapore. The chicken lacked flavor and was probably not cooked with the rice as expected. The side soup was a nice touch on a cold Hobart day and had a Vietnamese-like taste.

It is my second time here and I ordered the crispy pork with lychee and the seared wagyu. The beef is so tender and every bite is like a fusion of flavour in my mouth. The ribs and lychee is a perfect combination, my colleagues also loved the crispy eggplant and the curry vegetable which really looks good, something that I will try in the future. Thanks to Andrew for his hospitality and good customer service. I will definitely come back here as they have proven that they can serve quality food. If you want something different try this restaurant and for sure you will enjoy the Asian fusion.

Great selection of assorted fresh Asian cuisine with open kitchen straight to the table. Had the chefs buffet as part of a group of 8 and we certainly left feeling satisfied. Well staffed and great open plan spacious fitout. Certainly a breath of fresh air just what Hobart needed.

Pretty average food, menu doesn't describe the dish accurately, ordered an eggplant sambal and it was basically just tempura eggplant. Had a party of 5 and when ordering, the waiter scribbled on the menu with a highlighter what we ordered, but items were missed during serving. Ran out of tofu for all tofu dishes (understandably it was a busy night). Just overall underwhelmed over all the hype of the place, so was everyone else in the party. Maybe some menu changes wouldn't go astray.

We went the ibis styles as accor members to try out the local restaurant while in Hobart. My wife had the spicy chicken broth which was quite hot but nice and I decided on the waggu beef dish. Was very unimpressed with this dish as was fatty all through the cut of meat. In the end it didn't look like I'd eaten much at all as most wasn't very edible as I told the staff who took the plate away . Waggu I'm led to believe is one of the best beefs but as I told the waitress this was very poor. You win some you lose some I guess but wouldn't go back here next time when in town.

Dinner tonight did not disappoint. Lots of dishes to share, great atmosphere and background music unobtrusive and relaxing. Staff very friendly and attentive. Plus could watch the amazing chef at work. Standout dish was the pork belly Bao bun (didn't share this one). Lamb ribs with tamarind, sesame and cucumber also a fav. Asian street food at it's best. Average price less than $45 per person for our table of 3 people including drinks.

Absolutely delicious food - excellent for vegans too. This was our second visit and on both occasions the food has been amazing. The initial hiccups with training staff at a new establishment have all been overcome - tonight's staff were spot on with attentiveness (not too much. nor too little). Highly recommended.

Mr Good Guy is a spacious retro restaurant on the ground floor of the Ibis Styles. It has a wide selection of South East Asian food and I enjoyed the idea of sharing plates to get a taste of the amazing flavours. Staff were friendly and accommodating... overall a fabulous place to go and eat!!!

The flavours of all the foods were amazing. Salt and pepper tofu.....loved the chilli paste. Selection of mushrooms....yum. Eggplant sambal.....melt in the mouth and pork neck.....don't eat much meat but it melted in my mouth and salad was so tasty. Will definitely be back.

Lovely food, engaging Chef, great atmosphere! Had the banquet option with a group of friends. Great selection of food and did not leave hungry. Wait staff attentive. Recommend.

Great food, nice atmosphere and good service. My only niggle is the menus suggested the dishes were designed for sharing, so that’s how we ordered. When dishes arrived they we quite difficult to split, we had to carve some of the meat dishes at the table(?!), and there wasn’t enough rice. The food was very yummy though.

Amazing food, service and experience. I went with a large group of people (25 in total) and everything was spectacular. Highly recommended.

Very busy Saturday night with a 30 minute wait for a table. Worth the wait though - interesting menu, small and large plates, delicious different food. Asian inspired and well-priced. For one on our table it was his 3rd dinner there in a week. Can't wait to go back.

They were accomdating to my relative that had very specific food allergies. Service was fantastic. The food was also really tasty. The dishes to share was perfect. Wonderful dinner experience.

Mr Good Guy is located within the Ibis Styles Hotel. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The buffet breakfast is good value for money at $20. The breakfast has all the basics such as eggs, bacon, sausages, tomatoes, mushrooms, cereals and fruit. The coffee from the self serve coffee machine is not nice.

For dinner the restaurant offers Asian cuisine. I particularly like the fried Pandan custard for dessert. Something different and not a dish I've seen offered elsewhere.

Overall we liked the restaurant although I found from our visits, sometimes they may be understaffed. However, the staff were friendly despite being very busy.

Amazing food and very consistent. Love the atmosphere. Prices are a little on the high side but considering the quality and consistency well worth it!
