Review Mures Lower Deck - Hobart

D Kay Manning
A great variety of fish to choose from. Spacious restaurant. We had fish and chips and it was delicious. A friend had the fish chowder and it was a very generous portion. Afterward we sat next door and had a beer and coffee. All in all a lovely afternoon.

Very good. Food was tasty & fresh. There was cold seafood, hot seafood & salads in the "restaurant" bit. Over at the ice cream cabinets there was so many different flavours (42???) of ice cream/gelati/sorbet almost everyone would find one they like. Good coffee & smoothies.

I thought this might just turned out to be a typical tourist spot based on its location however when we ordered the food The fish & chips were absolutely amazing. In fact one of the best I've ever tried. It was so good I even went back two more times, trying the fisherman's basket and seafood chowder. They were all incredible I would urge anyone who has a chance to go and give them. The only reason I couldn't give them five stars was the unusual smell every time I walked into the restaurant there's a strange musty sour off smell when you first enter. You won't notice this if you sit outside and enter from the side entrance however from the front, the smell is quite obvious and would be unpleasant if you were having your meal there.

Delicious, easily the best fish and chips I have ever had, was very busy but worth the wait time. Staff were so kind and helpful when I asked for some extra lemon. Really enjoyed the view and environment. Bathrooms also super clean :) only negative is the annoying couple who sat next to my sister and I who had a go about me moving MY chair like relax? Would love to come back next time I am in Hobart. Yum

Mures Lower Deck is a very nice restaurant, offering a broad selection of fish and seafood dishes and a good selection of beer and wine for moderate prices. It offers a nice view on the docks. The fish & chips I had were very good and tasty, and the seagulls kept me company while eating outside. The restaurant however seems to be slightly understaffed, as I had to wait quite long for my food.

Popped in for a social work lunch today, was a really nice spot. Service was friendly and prompt, food was nice and the views back over the harbour well worth the time! They have bottled cider which is made for them as well, pretty nice stuff!!! Certainly a recommend from me!

Wasn't busy so quick to order. Pink ling fish n chips cost $15. Included lemon, vinegar, tomato and BBQ sauce. Quick and easy meal. Fish was moist and firm. Enough to share between two people if not too hungry. We recommend this place. I had the Riesling, it's really simple and I didn't enjoy it so much. Seems to be a wine made for this restaurant under their own private label.

We had the seafood basket for 2, and the seafood chowder. The chowder was tasty, recommend to share it, as it is quite filling. The seafood basket was a decent size, fish, prawns and scallops all battered nicely, though we didn't enjoy the Mure's seasoned fish in the seafood basket. Chips plentiful and tasty. Overall a nice meal.

We have always loved coming to Mures because it has the freshest fish available anywhere and you just know it is going to be genuine. Whenever we have visitors from the mainland or overseas this is definitely the first place we would think of to bring them for a nosh up. Highly recommended and have never had a bad meal ever.

Perfect! Amazing food every time we have visited. We're from New South Wales, and the first time we visited, we stumbled across it. Not being a seafood eater, I was pretty hesitant, but decided to give it a go to keep the other half happy. Oh my goodness. We were back the next night. Second visit to Hobart, we pre-booked for 3 out of our 5 nights. If you're looking for a delicious meal, in a beautiful setting, even if you're not a huge fan of seafood, it's worth giving it a go. I rarely eat seafood, but always look forward to our holidays to Hobart, mainly for Mures Upper Deck

Nice food, nice place. Had the fish burger and fish and chips between us. Quite tasty, a little expensive for what it was (its on the Harbour so I guess that’s the price to be paid)
Sandra Nielsen
Had crumbed fish, 2 not very big peaces of fish and heeps of chips $22 bit dear must be type of fish I had it was blue eye trevalla suppose to be very good fish and it was, Ice cream was good value 2 big scoop for $4.90 very tasty

With friends from Brisbane, went to Hobart for a 5-day holiday. Today, we had lunch at Mures (Lower Deck) for our friend's birthday lunch treat. Both the food (reasonable price for sumptuous seafoods) and customer service are amazing. A place you would love to go back. Thanks to Paige & boss Judith. Highly commendable.
Maria Ruello
Had a great lunch with some old friends. Oysters were the best I have had for a long time and the seafood basket delicious. Highly recommended for a relaxed lunch by the sea.

What a fabulous night at Mures Upper Deck. The team's farewell was fabulous - and yes, you managed to embarrass us. The meal that we had (a special tasting of the dishes for the new menu) was AMAZING. Beyond words. Without bias - the best meal that we have had in Tasmania! This new direction is going to push Mures Upper Deck, again, into the forefront of dining in Hobart. Eugene Burgo you are a genius! And THANK YOU so much to the whole team for making our night so special (including the after drinks) Gonna miss you!
Emily Jane Rogers
Good food, decent size, calamari chips and two salads. Tasted great. Nice spot by the water. Plenty of seating
Lale De Pasquale
My favourite restaurant in Hobart. Friendly service with perfect view and seafood. And of course famous Ice Creams and giant Sunday's ⚘
Lea Newman
Excellent food, friendly staff & quick service. It was lovely sitting having breakfast & looking out over the docks.

Great seafood and location right on the Harbour Great service and staff also Could not fault the place

The seafood and wine is yummy! We have eaten 3 times during our short stay in Hobart.
Julie Ridgill
The best Oysters we have ever had ... fish batter beautiful and thin.

Although favourite among locals for Fish n chips, it was a disappointing experience. Ordered the standard Fish n chip witth a bowl of fresh pasta salad. After 15 mins wait , we were served our order.Fish was found to be frozen and not fresh, lacked taste.Fries were just ok.Pasta salad was our saviour for the meal.
Wouldnt recommend any day

Mure is one of the few places that open past 9pm in Hobart CBD. I’ve been coming here almost everyday during my stay in Tassie, mostly to try the seafood chowder. Unfortunately it always runs out!
I love the fresh oysters from here, so fresh and so much cheaper if you purchase a dozen. The fish and chips are very good too. There are condiments on the pick up area so you can adjust the food according to your liking. Service is quick and friendly.

Got theses dishes for $50 and totally happy.
Great foods and extremely fresh

Went to Mures on recommendation from the hotel receptionist. We had the seafood basket and seafood chowder. The seafood basket was pretty average, wasn’t a huge fan of the crumb batter. The chowder however was delicious, probably one of the best I’ve had and great value for money. Dinner time is a very busy time to come, long waits for food but the chowder was worth the wait!
Cookielessvee
An open seafood restaurant. We ordered the foshermans basket whuch was full of freshly cooled seafood. The batter was average and slightly crumbed. Chips so crisp for the first few bites but then get soggy and an oily taste emerges. Blue grenadier is slighlty fish and overcooked. Lobster was fresh and meaty. Pizza was average, the base was flat and soggy with the sweetest bbq sauce
Chewie
Ordered fisherman’s basket ($29) and 1/2 dozen oysters ($17),oysters and seafood were nice and fresh. The service is quick and the place was really lively. They also have sparkling water on tap which is ace.
Umami
A little expensive however that’s to be expected for a spot right on the dock. Good quality of fish, chips and seafood. Option to buy fresh fish to cook at home.
Let Laura Eat
Not bad, but didn’t feel it was good value for money. The kids meal was, but not the adults. The line was very long & the wait longer. We were a bit disappointed based on the reviews saying how good it was.
Croissant Addict
Oysters were really fresh and tasty. Fisherman's basket was alright, but the calamari could have been better. Sadly, the chips stole the show from the seafood.
Yuuki Priscilla
The restaurant has a good view, located at the heart of CBD. For someone who is searching for seafood, this restaurant is definitely worth trying. I would suggest trying out their australian fish and chips (i cant really remember the name but its about $22). It has a unique taste, the fish texture is like chicken and its tasty. Their prawn is also fresh. As for their oysters it is fresh but not very fresh. I also tried eating their salmon, it was okay. However they will need to improve on their salad. I tried out their coleslaw, it needs to be improved.

Came here once on a whim for some fish and chips, but was blown away by the high quality for the fairly low price. The fish and chips was fresh and delicious, and beautifully cooked. The salads were nice and simple, and staff were friendly and the atmosphere was nice. What really blew me away and made me come back 2 nights later were the fish cakes. Absolutely delicious!
Ed
I’m really not much of a fan of fish and chips, so it means a lot when I say that this is the best fish and chips of my life.
Very fresh, not greasy, great options!
We went here twice in the past week during our holiday in Hobart.
The only disappointment was the soup I was keen for was a bit overpriced for the amount given and not very flavoursome.
Definitely recommend trying this place out!
Helen Glen
Was expecting fresh melt in your mouth seafood - instead got chewy calamari - rubbery fish and a sad salad ! A total waste of $50 ! Will not be coming back
Baira
Did you know that Mure’s Lower Deck has the best seafood chowder ? If you are a seafood lover - this is a must visit spot. The chowder was full of flavour - the consistency and the colour says it all. Best seafood chowder I’ve ever had !!
Vanessa
I really really love the ice cream options! So many options that make it hard for me to decide, but the options are just oh so wonderful. Anyway, I ended up having Rum Raisin and Vienna Coffee (mixed single scoop) in a cone. It was an absolute delight! Not to mention that the cone was very crunchy too! Too bad it’s almost winter and the wind is so strong, but I will definitely come again to try other flavors before I go back.

Good fish burger with chips! Stopped by for a quick bite with a sweet view by the water. Nothing fancy but it was good value & good people watching. Would go back.
Two Sheds
3.6

The lower deck is a good casual eating place. We grabbed a spot outside by the water as it was a nice evening and it’s also an optimal spot for a bit of people watching. I had grilled salmon with a Caesar salad and chips. The salmon was a nice size and beautifully cooked. It was still nicely moist and altogether very tasty. The salad was a decent size too and reasonably done. The chips padded things out a little but were good as well. Alcohol wasn’t a bad price given the location of the bistro. An added attraction is the free on tap sparkling water.

My companions enjoyed their meals too. All in all it’s a good place. A slick and worthy operation.

If you’re into chaos it’s worth being outside at Mures Lower Deck to watch what happens when customers leave their table after a meal. The watching seagulls descend on the table in an instant and go for the leftover food. It’s a violent but somewhat entertaining sight that can involve lots of action, noise and even shattered glass. We saw it happen at two tables but avoided it with ours by calling a staff member before we left our table. NB, anyone who was distressed by Hitchcock’s “The Birds” should sit inside.
Tom
Went here for a quick, light lunch. Between the two of us we had half a dozen natural oysters and a fisherman's basket. The seafood was lovely and fresh as it should be and the quantity was good.
Eatwithmyfoodsafari
Came here for some takeaway for dinner. Located on Franklin Wharf, it was already very busy when we arrived. There were heaps of people dining in (a self service affair if you chose dine in) but the line was long for takeaway as well. Surprising for a seafood shop they did offer breakfast in the morning too. Based on the bistro menu they offered fried battered or crumbled seafood, chips, burgers, wraps, pizzas, salads, and soups. They also had fresh oysters as well. Lots of nautical themed decorations inside too.

I was served by an efficient if not the most friendliest lady. They had an Australian Blue Eye Trevalla which I had battered and it was served with chips. Offered as both snack or meal size, I opted for meal size as it was dinner time. Glad I chose it over the regular fish and chips as a friend had that and the fish didn’t look as flaky or white on the inside as mine. Served as 2 pieces with chips and lemon, the condiments are also a self service affair so liberally sprinkled chicken salt on my chips and squirted a good helping of BBQ sauce. I enjoyed my meal a lot.
Thewhereto
A big seafood restaurant that has eat in, takeaway, a bar and ice cream. We ordered a fisherman’s basket and some trevallla. The fish in the basket was a little Average (maybe frozen), but the Trevalla was very nice. A little pricy but probably to be expected in that area.
Foodie Hangeo
We ordered the fisherman’s basket, 1/2 doz natural oysters, and 1/2 doz Kilpatrick oysters. Waited at least half hour for the food to be ready and 1/2 doz natural oysters were missing, which was really unprofessional. Oysters were all right just not that fresh.
Brunny Girl
Was ok but we had better from the floating vans located along the dock.Crumbed scallops were chewy and the fish was pretty bland, perhaps because is arrived lukewarm. I mentioned the fish to the counter staff and was told that they were busy. The oysters were fresh and salty. Popular tourist spot and it was great to see free bubbled water on tap.

This is an institution in Hobart, located in a prime waterfront location in front of the harbour. Specialising in seafood, the lower deck is a causal, canteen style restaurant offering seafood classics such as fish and chips, seafood platters and fresh oysters.

No visit to Tasmania is a visit without eating oysters! I prefer fresh oysters but this time felt like like oysters Kirkpatrick. Ordered half a dozen, a generous heaping of bacon strands with a tangy, Worcestershire sauce coating the oysters. I couldn’t ask for a more perfect starter.

I also had the catch of the day (blue trevella) served with chips and choice of two salads (although the time of night we dined which was 8pm on a Saturday, there was not much choice of salad).

I dined here two years ago and was slightly more impressed, it might have been the time of he evening we were here when it seemed most things had sold out but at least there was enough seating without having to wait for a table.

Tortuguita Comiendo
One word: Delicious!

Service was really friendly even when we asked lots of questions.

Lots of seating inside and outside.

Food was amazing. So fresh. We got the fisherman's basket which had one large fried and battered fish, three crumbed prawns, scallops, calamari rings and bite-size fishes.

My only complaint was that there was only two ladies toilets when the place would serve hundreds of customers a day.

Came to this place during a short getaway in Tasmania.
Ambience : 4/5. Large brightly lit dining area. Elegant decor, great landscape and scenic view overlooking the port.
Food : 4/5. Fresh, fresh, fresh. Generous huge portions. Ordered the seafood basket, oysters and the salmon, all fresh and full of flavor.
Service : 3.5/5. Booking and reservation require improvement. There was a confusion on our reservation. Booked the Lower Deck through Zomato but received a confirmation from the Upper Deck. Called to move our reservation as they opened because we could not make it on time. The call was transferred somewhere and the receptionist told us that our booking for Lower Deck has been confirmed. We arrived on time, not knowing what to expect and realized that they don not take bookings for Lower Deck. Bummer!
Otherwise the service was quick. Tables were cleared immediately and the staffs were very attentive.
Tips : There is no reservation for Lower Deck. Be early to get a spot with a view.

An awesome fisherman’s basket. Don’t need to say anything else but the word count requires me to write 140 digits. Anyway the food was awesome.
Ramona
Delicious, fresh seafood. This place is a buzz - lots of chatter and laughter, people everywhere, family friendly. Short wait on food - worth the wait. Filling meal, tasty and satisfying.
Jen
Oysters fresh and delicious l. Crumbed scallops yummy, as was crumbed calamari. Fat fat better than nearby competitors - and don’t bother going upstairs
Joyce Lorbest
We ordered their famous seafood chowder and dozen of fresh oysters. Their food were really tasty. Perfect ambience for eating seafoods just be careful with the hungry seagulls.
Ted Wu
Location is wonderful. Right on the Barbour, and you can take in all the view while enjoying a hearty lunch. Service was friendly and quick, portion was decent, and price was reasonable. Although the actual flavor of the food left a little to be desired. But gotta give them credit for having a battered flake that’s not at all greasy!
Jiahui.patrick.du
Service was good but food is just ok at lower deck . Not as that great as described . Would love to try other places in Tasmania to see . Thank you .
Loving Life
Super friendly and super quick service when ordering coffees. Cafe very clean and waitresses cleaned table quickly as patrons left. Coffee was hot, tea was exactly as ordered and the Chai latte was delicious, milky and just right. Nice touch was tiny easter eggs on the side which were complimentary. Definitely will visit this cafe again when net in town.
Marvin Ding
Salmon, oyster, fish and chips is super fresh

If you plan to share you will need to order a dish for each person. Because the portion is not huge compared to the fish and chips we get back in Fremantle, Perth.
Munchk1n
Came here in the afternoon for a quick snack/mini lunch. Hubby and I had shared the catch of the day- battered orange roughy and chips with tartare sauce. Fish and chips was fresh, tasty, batter not too thick. They also give complimentary tomato and bbq sauce which is great. We also shared a “single cup” of icecream with the strawberry and macadamia (the best) flavors- definitely worth it, the single was equivalent to 2 large scoops!!!
Monica612
This place is ok. Mussel is fresh, however is it 17.9/dz. cannot be more expensive! I have visited this place for dinner and lunch and ordered the fisherman's basket twice. The one for lunch ( 2nd pic) is much worse the the one for dinner (1st dinner) the scallop, prawn and fish in the lunch one are smaller and with much thicker batter. Well, everyone must visit this place once , but don't come with high expectations.
Debby
Mures is a staple name in Hobart. Coming here with high expectations because their name always comes up in websites as places to visit. This place is big! The oysters and the fisherman's basket are pretty average. The chowder was disappointing considering it's highly recommended. It was bland and lacking that seafood taste in the soup although there was generous amount of it in the chowder.

Had lunch here with a couple of colleagues because they wanted fish and chips. I am generally not a fan of deep fried food so went for grilled salmon. They warned us for a 25-minute wait, but it seemed shorter in the end. It was school holidays I think because the place was packed and full of kids. Not much service, because self-service. Price of my meal was pretty steep for a self service restaurant. My dish was ok. The salmon was a bit overcooked but yummy otherwise. It came with chips and a coice of two salads. The salads were nice and served in a separate bowl. I would say you can probably get better food for the same price in a nicer venue.

Mures is a Hobart institution and is in a prime location right on the Victoria Dock. The lower deck is very casual - and it's self service. You place your orders at the counter and collect your meals when your buzzer tells you they're ready. The service is extremely fast - our food was ready in minutes! We really enjoyed our fish, chips and salad and having the ice creamery right there was a bonus. They are extremely generous with the serves of ice cream - the Mures' single serve is the same as a double serve from all other ice cream parlours.
Anthonyvanzella
This place was terrible. Hands down the worst fish and chips in the world. This ruined my trip. I hated myself for eating here. I felt like less of a person. It raped my soul. I could not Leave a harsher review. We left our food for the seagulls to eat and even they were skeptical.
Lunch Pie
$14.50 fpr a paper thin piece of fish and chips which had bad bits in them. Not impressed. Only visiting but noted for next time. Service okay. Nothing spectacular. Easy know it's a tourist trap
Tony Mithen
With all the amazing dining ptions in Hobart this one underwhelmes. Great location and OK food but too many better options in my opinion. Fish and Chips seems the best option if you must do it!
Felix Choo
Good food at reasonable prices. The oysters were really fresh too! Also tried the Bistro Special: Scallops in curry sauce on rice. It was nice, rice was a bit undercooked and grainy though.
Lisa
The calamari was overcooked and chewy, as were the fish. However, the chips are well cooked and the aioli is delicious. Definitely add chicken salt on your meal to give it an extra kick! The price is reasonable, could improve the menu by having the option of adding extras to a regular meal.
Leanne Dando
Loved this place! If you want somewhere to go to with nice fish and chips. Here's the place. Casual setting! But still delish! Love the grilled fish ! Yummy
Denise Massey
Arrived on a Monday night to order a seafood pizza at 6pm and they didn't have any left!! A seafood restaurant and they don't have seafood pizza. Visitors from brisbane not happy Jan!!!!!
Travelling Pom
Came for wines and oysters here. Staff very helpful and friendly. Wine very good and reasonably priced. Oysters are nice and meaty! Got slightly drunk and tried to do a suduko. Didn't try a full meal here but I liked the atmosphere.

Mures lower deck is the more casual restaurant serving fresh seafood and fish and chips!! The oysters are very good but my favourite part about this restaurant is the icecream. Whilst the flavours are fairly standard, the amount you pay for the portion you get is unimaginable in Sydney so yes, I visited this place more than once ahahahha.
Jimmy Carradine
I stopped by for some breakfast. Big sign out the front suggesting give it a go. Gave my order and requested a Latte. No go.
You need to go and order your coffee from another area! Now I need to juggle waiting for my food and my coffee. I wanted to sit and enjoy the view at the opposite end of Mures from my batista.
Just wanted a nice meal, coffee and view. This needs to be addressed before I think about returning.
Simmo
Not long Mures Lower Deck was a semi regular family favourite. Ok the food was only ever average but you knew what you were getting, the kids liked it and the value was ok. Fast forward to 2017 and their new strategy is obviously to target the tourists and charge them for the privilege. $21 for 8 scallops and fries. $8 for a stubby of Boags Premium. I regularly pay $$ for quality meals at many of the premium restaurants in Tassie and beyond and happy to do so. Never have I seen such an obvious rip off as this except maybe lunch at a cafe on the Champs Élysées. Mures - well done. I hope your new business model pays dividends and the locals avoid you like the plague.
Jason Peacock
1 for the view. Very bad customer service. We could not even order a meal. Made us wait and ignored us. A second time for breakfast, we ordered, paid and we waited. People just after us were served. We waited like 30 min thinking they were busy... no they just forgot us! Thanks but no thank you. Bad experience of the "Taste of Tasmania".
Emily Duong
Best fish and chips you can find in Hobart. The seafood was battered perfectly. There is a short wait of its busy, worth the wait. The fish was fresh. The only downside is that the oysters were a bit small. Other than that everything was perfect.
Daniel
I would give the ice cream alone a 5, but that's just because I love ice cream. 32 flavours, a late night treat with a fantastic view.
The seafood was very tasty, notwithstanding the fact that I don't really enjoy seafood.
All up a nice place to take the family, enjoy a quiet half litre of ice cream, or just gaze at the bay over a coffee.
Foodlover12
A little over priced for what you get, but the free cold water/sparking water was good! The calamari was really nice, chips average, chowder good, whiting nice but careful of the bones, service at the counter friendly, on the floor, non existent!
The icecream... it's just "streets" icecream, really really average.
Dan Dunlevie
The 1.5 is for the amazing location on the pier.
The food was very, very average. With such access to amazing seafood in Tassie I was really disappointed. We got the Fishermans basket and grilled salmon.
They may have well deep fried the basket with the seafood because it would have tasted just as good. The spicy fish thing they served was freakishly disgusting. Salmon was greasy and lacked any engaging elements. Staff were nice.
But the location!
Overall, crap. Must better options around.
Millenchicky
Slightly overrated for a fish and chip shop.
However the food was tasty, it came out hot, even though we waited a while. The beer was crisp, and the wine by the glass was reasonable. They don't add salt to anything though, so don't be afraid to season your own food!
Have to say the woman who worked the bar section was great. Cheerful and friendly, she gave all the other staff something to aim for!
Emma
Busy, cheerful. Toddler friendly. Chowder was delicious! Generous serves and efficient service. Good value for money. House wine was really quite good
Tomato Bandit
A bit disappointed with this place. Came for lunch. On a good side quick efficient service. Order at the counter and collect food when its being yelled out. Had the seafood chowder, it was ok. The grilled blue eye was overcooked. Overall it was so-so. Probably wouldn't bother going back.
Jules
Had the scallops with chips and the fisherman's basket on separate occassions. The scallops were tiny and was not worth the price at all. (psst: the crumbed scallops next door are better!) Same with the fisherman's basket. The saving grace of this place is their ice cream parlour. Loved the Strawberry Summer, Dolce Bianco, and the Rum & Raisin flavours. Would recommend the Vienna Coffee flavour for coffee lovers.
Noel Wright
Pretty Poor Fare - great location but you pay for it both in terms of price and quality.

Oh dear!! When we went to Hobart we though perhaps the common trope of the tourist trap restaurant might not apply but were sorely disappointed.

I don't want to harp on about this but the food was expensive relative to the other vendors in the area, small in terms of portions size and really slow. When I say really slow I think my kids we eyeing off the seagulls as a source of protein, I spent 15 minutes trying to look grumpy and impatient( I am not good with confrontation) at then end of the queue.

I live in Perth and there is a harbour side seafood restaurant (ahem - Cicerellos) which manages a seriously large volume of traffic (we are a favorite destination for our Asian neighbors) with accurate order tracking, swift delivery and (relatively) good pricing (check out where they are on line). So I would have expected better from a Lonely Planet location. Take it from me on a first hand basis that you should avail yourself of the many floating fish and chip places along the Sullivan's cove waterfront. The waiting locals have had the time to suss out what is what and where to go.

As per my enthusiasm in another review, if you want healthy food in the area try Lola Espresso (though I think that they only open for breakfast/lunch).

Anyway would have loved to write a more positive review but honestly prevails........

Cheers,

Very Hungry Noel
A Girl With Curves
This place is totally overrated & over priced. We ordered oysters kilpatrick which came out cold. We informed the staff, but they didn't really care. The seafood laksa was amazing but again, overpriced.
Torsa The Foodie
We visited Mure's this weekend on our visit to Hobart. The fish was fresh but cooking was not good. The service was terrible , there was no cutlery and we had to wait for them to be washed and our food got cold. The only thing I liked was the fresh fish.
Andrew
The only good stuff here is the wide range of ice cream selection. The fish dishes are really pricey for casual dining and more suited for the tourists. I would rather visit the nearby shops along the docks for something much filling and cheaper.
Food Glorious Food
It's a great spot, by the water. Tables were clean, service was quick. Seafood was just as fresh as fresh can be. Dock cider was good too.

Visited Mures lower deck for a birthday dinner for my four year old granddaughter
This place is ideal for this type of occasions or a quick bite before a show, Now, fine dining it's not but if you're looking for everyday fish and chips then Mures fits the bill, I had the Fishermans basket washed down with a couple of frothies ( note, full restaurant bar prices here) the missus opted for the blue eye and rated it but I think that was because she didn't have to cook, the ankle biters all ploughed through their squid and chips without complaint, Mures have an ice creamery on site and this was a big hit with the birthday girl and her big brother
As a big boy I would rather dine upstairs or Fish Frenzy

Blythe
It wasn't too bad. we enjoyed the fish of the day (school shark) and chips. Thought it was fries nicely.
The oysters were a bit of a let down. It was small and just generally not as enjoyable as other oysters we've had in Hobart.
Serious Melb Foodie
Ordered fish and chip meal, both fish and the chips were awful, very greasy and tasteless. Price wise is definitely not value for money but I suppose given for its location hence it demands for such premium. Service was quick and attentive and location is conveniently right at the harbour so that were the positives.
Glenn Browning
Went to Pearl and Co last night.
THE WORST SERVICE I HAVE EVER RECEIVED IN ANY RESTAURANT EVER. With only 3-4 tables to serve, both our main course and our dessert orders were forgotten about in the kitchen for ages - easy to see because with an open kitchen it was obvious - the kitchen staff were just standing around chatting. Our drinks likewise appeared to be forgotten about. We had to ask the waiter to clear away our plates and take our dessert order after waiting for over 30 minutes for him to decide to do it himself. We had to get up to ask him for cutlery after he forgot to bring it with dessert. The main course we're OK but the dessert platter was pretty ordinary and one of the chocolates tasted very unpleasant. If this is how bad it is when it is quiet, I wouldn't dream of going here when it was busy. Actually I would think of ever going here at all. An extremely disappointing experience.
Sydneyguyrojoe
Came for dinner, prices are what I expected, food came out pretty quick,I like the ambience inside,a little plain but I like the tacky shark head and other stuff in there. Food wise I was really disappointed. It didn't have much taste. The chowder tasted a little watered down. My seafood basket I had to add tomato sauce to it for sum taste. My partner liked her fish and chips though. Overall I was disappointed,I was expecting more

My daughter and I had lunch at mures wish we had not eaten their we felt it tasted dodgy we are both now sick hope other dinners are ok not going back paul😔

Looks great but tastes terrible. Cold trips, hard and dry fish. Terrible and expensive. Not recommended at all. As a tourist to Hobart, I recommend other restaurants in Salamanca place
Rathluba1860
Bistro service with little atmosphere. This would be OK if you weren't paying top price for small portions of fish loaded with chips. The Trevalla was well cooked and delicious, however the portion was simply too small for the money. The girls had calamari and chips and had the same experience with the amount of calimari being insufficient for the price charged.

Came here for late dinner with my husband. That's the few places that still opens at 9pm. We ordered half dozen of oyster, fish n chips and catch of the day. The oysters are juicy and the fishes are well cooked but the chips are just okay. Prices are considered on the high side for me.
NAY
Came here for lunch. Had a dozen natural oysters which were nice and my husband had a dozen oysters kilpatrick. A pint of Cascade Draught was nice too. The service was pretty friendly even though there's no table service.
Gwendolyn Tan
Huge selection of ice cream flavours! All at a really decent price. We ordered the baby scoop ($2.90) and the serving size was like a regular scoop at any other ice cream palours. Would revisit!

Feels like a tourist trap. And kind of like a cafeteria. Loads of strollers so don't go there to relax. Oysters were good but at $24 per dozen they should be.

Every time I come to Tasmania I come here. There is nothing I could fault, all the seafood is beautiful and fresh and it's lovely to eat by the sea. There is nothing bad to say about it here.
Mark Pugly
For tourists who dont know that better value and quality seafood is all over the area. Costs too much for what it is. Very pub like without the quality or atomosphere. Go elsewhere.
A Hobart Diner
Shabby overpriced and low quality tourist trap. Go to the punts opposite if you want well priced fresh seafood. 20 bucks for eight pieces of tough frozen calamari with soggy chips a shameless rip off. Avoid. Though the beer is cheap.
TINA JOHNSON
Not a bad place if you are looking for a quick meal. Not too many healthy options however. A little bit overpriced. The seafood itself is of a high quality, however, more options should be added to the menu that doesnt included deep frying in oil.
Mae Mae Chua
Easy place to grab a quick bite with great variety. Service could be more helpful. The seafood platter was a let down. Oysters are decent. Calamari was good.
MF
Good fish restaurant for a casual meal and good prices. Licensed. Fantastic location on the harbour. Great oysters. Fish and chips are well cooked. Service is average, don't expect your table to be cleared. Would return here though.
DianaW
Another great spot with a water view. Nice place to kick back & relax in the comfortable couches with a coffee. Our flat whites were good, full bodied flavor. They had a decent selection of sweets in the cabinet, but did not indulge. I think the fish & chip area is at the back of where we had coffee. If you want decent fish & chips there are better places like Flippers right on the water
David
An overall very average experience. This place was recommended by our hotel staff as a Hobart institution so we decided to give it a try. The fish and chips are all round average (rather similar to what you'd expect from a local fish an chips take away store) but pricier. Service is very efficient and prompt but place looks more like a food court than restaurant and is very large. I think you can definitely find better fish and chips around Hobart.
Enigma
Total rip off, as are the shacks outside. They only put Hobart to shame rather than highlighting the quality of the seafood. Local council should act.
Betterresult
Tourist trap. Ordered three baskets, all had hot chips, two with fried fish and one with scallops. Absolutely unimpressive! There was nothing fresh or tasty at all, it was practically supermarket level frozen food. What a waste :(
G
Horrible over priced place, I can't believe they charged us over $77 for 9cooked tiger prawns & 2 fish n chips with stale rotten un eatable salad that looks like it's 2 days old, the place is dirty with food scraps n dirty tissues on the floor, to sum it up HORRIBLE! Highly Not Reconmend This Place!
Brunch On Joy
Trust the reviews - a no go for breakfast. Great, open space and nice views but waiting 40 minutes in a quiet early morning service just doesn't warrant a recommendation. Confused, I had to ask where to order in which I placed my order at one counter then proceeded to a counter on the other side to collect my average coffee and then waited 40 minutes to collect my eggs benedict with salmon from another counter. Perhaps I've been spoilt in Sydney but even the hollandaise wasn't even home made - so why the ridiculous wait? Scoffing my meal down and rushing off to a tour... maybe stick to lunch here.

Worst breakfast ever.... Just had probably worst breakfast I've ever encountered on holidays. Ordered the pancakes with bacon (misleadingly described as a 'stack of pancakes') - what came out looked like shredded remains of breakfast served several days ago. In hindsight I should have taken a photo to share here.

These alleged pancakes consisted of pikelets cut up into little triangular shapes - but worst of all was that they were clearly not freshly made - had been re-microwaved (perhaps several times). Each slice had multiple temperatures (from warm to cold) - and even different textures (soft to chewy). Similarly bacon was all different temperatures - really not sure how they managed to create such a mess.

Coffees (made by ice-creamery) were pretty ordinary too - I guess given it was a fish mongers + an ice creamery our expectations may have been too high here for café quality stuff..

The smokey seafood chowder, delicious !
Michael Spinks
Disappointing meal. For a seafood restaurant on the water, the food should be fresh. Unfortunately it is overpriced, small servings, and not very tasty.
Orange2012
Don't make the same mistake that we did. Seafood is not fresh, slow service when it wasn't busy, overpriced for canteen food. Unless you are looking for disappointment don't come here. Save your money and time.
Belliana
Noisy, canteen style, average food at best. I had a much higher expectation of Mures being on the waterfront, the seafood is not as lovely as I had of hoped for. Maybe they save all the best quality stuff for the Upper Deck??? Would need a big improvement before I would fine here again.
Sarah Lea
Worst fish and chips in hobart! Save your time and head to one of the punts on the water!
Muncher
Average. Overpriced, oily, small serves, wouldn't recommended it or go back , :(
Vkhong
Mures Tasmania. A full dish of normal tasting fish and chips with some salad, seafood and pumpkin soup on the side which cost more then $70 for a self service eatery ... very expensive but not impressive, sorry to say but I personally didn't like it
Scottharvey
Completely overpriced rubbish cooked by children. Gritty oysters. Soggy fish. Chips were great. Nice wine. Altogether overpriced and would not return under current stewardship. The fish punts nearby offer similar product for half the price. Also retrieving your own meals at this price is just taking the mickey out of patrons. Happy days

Mures is definitely a destination to avoid. We had been searching Hobart for the renowned lobster and we came across a bustling seafood place called mures. We saw a lobster special, it was expensive but we thought it would be good quality. We also ordered some oysters. The lobster came out under cooked and whoever thought of giving chips and a potato salad together must really love potatoes. The potato salad was also hard and undercooked. I requested the lobster to be recooked. When we wanted to get utensils to break the lobster shell we were told they have none. This was unacceptable for a seafood place. the lobster meat was chewy and had no flavor, perhaps overpowered by the mures special mornay sauce. The oysters were dry and not creamy perhaps as it was left on display too long. However this tasted the best as it was natural and didn't require any cooking. We left the sides uneaten and unimpressed!
Maggie H
Over Priced and Under Done. Service was horrible, food was mediocre at best, prices too high. Go next door to Mako's for better food at a fraction of the price. Seriously, Makos have the best seafood.
A.holt
Expensive food with slack customer service. Our visit to Lower deck for an evening meal was memorable for all the wrong reasons. Lukewarm fish and chips , gritty natural oysters and totally unhelpful staff. Over priced food that appeared to be prepared by first year apprentices. Eat at Mures at your own peril and expect a spoilt night out.
Andrew Kelly
Seafood. Nice place for an afternoon wine with a few oysters and prawns. Hot tip is to buy prawns and oysters separately for a better deal.
Nice view over the water.
It is a little pricey but you are paying for the location and ability to sit down in a nice environment.

Ice dream on sunny deck on a beautiful day. Enjoyable
Neisslim2002
Omg....never never again....... Long Waiting for order.... Long Waiting for the food.... Overprice for just 2 little piece of pink ling..... The worst salt n pepper squid..... But the ice cream is worth for the long queue
Tascactus155
Never again. Went to Mures Lower Deck last night for dinner, used to be quick and reasonably good but last night was totally the opposite. Slow from ordering to getting food, menu had changed snack sized meals no longer available and the serve of food had gone from the main size to snack size or smaller and prices up. Prawns were like you could buy from the supermarket and had not flavour. Mures Marinade tasted under cooked or ingredients had changed. Toilets were disgusting as well. The only good thing was that the ginger beer, lemon, lime and bitters and apple/blackcurrent juice was cold
Sissy
Fish and chips is just average. The seafood is not as good as Sydney fish market and over-priced. Won't go there again.
Tallpoppy
Best and freshest seafood, fish and chips, pizza and ice cream we've had in a long time! It's rare that you come across a place that every dish is so fresh and cooked to perfection. The fish and chips, oyster Kilpatrick, the chowder and the pizzas are all winners. We loved it so much that we came back the second time! We were also surprised to see that they provided soda water for free in the drinking fountain along with chilled and room temperature options. Family friendly.

Yay Phish. ...concerned and surprised at the amount of negative reviews here.

Mures Lower Deck does perfectly fine food, it's definately a casual dining sort of place and the service is as minimal as possible. However the service is also very friendly and helpful; it's easy to get confused where to stand for your order, or collecting your order, or ordering drinks, but the staff here are so easy going that it makes it irrelevant.

There are four main service places - ordering fish and chips and associated food (and payment); collecting food; bar for drinks; and ice cream and cake bar out the front.

ALL foods served are fresh and of a high quality. Batter on the fish is perhaps slightly thick is the only slightly negative observance, however I rather enjoy that type of flavour. It's clean batter, the chips are great, the tartare sauce is lovely, and the ice cream is seriously FAN-BLOODY-TASTIC. What's more, I've always found the quality served up consistently.

I've been here a dozen times over the years with family and friends (I'm from interstate) and Mure's has been a constant go-to place for us to eat a good feed together.

The food is so bad, it's not expensive, but bad! Next to the dock but not so fresh!!!!

Totally delish. Mouthwatering fish. A favourite for me
SunSeeker
Great location! That's the only thing going for this place. Fish was not fresh, and over cooked with no flavour. (I had their premium grilled Trevalla with cold chips). Even the salad was a couple of days old. A meal you could expect for under $10 but over priced at $18.90 and definitely not returning.
Bec
Besides the fact that this place is a major tourist trap with it's average food (my tuna steak was bland and very over cooked)the customer service is medieval! I know it's meant to be casual dining but would it hurt to at least provide some pleasant service? Overpriced and horrible. Avoid it, not worth the location
Mike D
Disappointed - grabbed a fisherman's basket expecting something a little less ordinary but what I got was indistinguishable from what I was served in a pub in Albury. I should have listened to local knowledge that advised that Mures was overpriced and over-rated.
Daz
No idea what the negative comments are about - the food was delicious! Fried seafood basket was amazing, for $20, I was very happy with the quantity and quality of the food. Partner had the grilled salmon and it was a little overdone, but still really tasty. You need to remember, this isn't a restaurant, so don't expect table service! Quality fish and chips, from someone who's had his fair share over the years! I'll be back next time I'm in Hobart...

This is a great casual dining experience perfect for the large group or family. The seafood is delightfully fresh- had the scallops, calamari, prawns, and oysters- all if which satisfied! Highly recommend for an overall thumbs up Aussie fish and chips!
Rucky
I love my Fish and Chips. Friday night was pumping, all tables full, but we managed to find seating, a good thing too, thoroughly enjoyed the specials (flathead and stripy trumpeter) both served with chips and salad, very good value for the quality and amount.
In fact we were so impressed that we returned the following night for straight fish and chips and a fisherman's basket. Again, no disappointment with size or quality.

Mure's Lower Deck is not fine dining but a very well put together casual seafood restaurant catering for hoards of people and the service is actually very good and organised considering how busy they get. Plenty of choice on the menu and the specials board is worth a look too. Coffee and ice-cream on the way out is also very good (if you have room)
Joshua
Worst fish and chips in Australia?. As a seafood lover I feel obliged to provide a honest review of Mure's Lower Deck including the good, the bad and the ugly. Unfortunately it is all bad and ugly. I was bitterly disappointed with all aspects of the restaurant from the cheesy decor, poor service to the tasteless food (at best). The Lower Deck does not deserve any accolades. Do not eat at Mure's unless you have low expectations or do not care what you put into your mouth. Try other places.
Simon
Location isn't everything. I thought I'd give Mure's a try because it features so heavily in reviews of Hobart's seafood. It was also on the way home to my hotel. It's the worst dining experience I've so far had in my one week in Tasmania and has tainted my view of the produce available here. I really don't know how they could get it so wrong and wonder If at some stage in the past it may have been better.

I ordered the seafood basket with a caesar salad (perhaps I should share some of the blame for not looking too closely). The few scallops looked like beige prunes and tasted like they came from scraps left at the the bottom of a deep freezer. The fish, possibly trevally, was lifeless. There was also a few peices of something coated in some sort of Indian spices that both me and my eating partner failed to identify. I left the salad uneaten.

I was so disconcerted by my experience that I dropped in the following night to see if I had by chance experienced an anomaly, but what I saw on diners' tables only served to reinforce my views.

Half a star.

Nice place!. Went here during our Tassie trip (24-26 Nov) on a recommendation from our Hobart friend. Between the 5 of us, we had the big platter + a fisherman basket. Food was yum and the ambience was nice. Good value for food as well. One minor con is that they don’t serve water on jugs so we had to walk back & forth to have our water. Oh, they do serve still, sparkling and cold water for free (bye bye bottled sparkling water!).

On a different note, the young lad at the oyster counter was very friendly. Knowing that we’re visitors, he told us about places to visit etc.
Christina
I love this place!! Second time we visited after coming a few years ago and were still really happy. Not fancy food, but big selection, friendly service and the food is tasty!!! We walk away feeling so satisfied - great value for money. Not a romantic atmosphere - more like a big buzzing cafe!!
Stephanie
Not very fresh! Definitely much better seafood joints outside of hobart. Don't waste your time/money here.

Pretty good.. After a long drive around hobart, me and my friends were looking forward to a satisfying seafood meal at the docks and Mures was one of the main picks. the lower dock however resembled more of a local canteen and was extremely clean.

aware of how late we arrived (around 8.30pm), we quickly ordered from the simple menu. I had the grilled blue-eyed trevalla ($16) served with chips and salad while my friends had the assorted seafood in asian stir fry ($16) served with rice. but unfortunately, we were informed that the kitchen had run out of rice, so the dishes were replaced with either bread or chips.

the blue-eye trevalla was grilled beautifully. the flesh was firm and fresh. chips being chips and salads being salads. the others were happy with the assorted seafood, though we were left pondering what makes the sauce so asian.

would be back for a decent, well priced meal in the future.
Kristen_P_R
Smells. Very hard to get service or attention, also the smell of fish is over powering.
Lisa Maree
Disappointed take away. We ordered takeaway fish n chips. Not the best. Small piece of fish in the fishermans basket ( not enough for one guy)but heaps of chips but we think from the low temp of the chips they are taken from a warming area to make up an order but are not hot enough to 'survive' a 2 min trip home. Probably better to eat in. Cooked prawns and natural oysters looked fab.
Brazen Crumpets
Simple good seafood at a reasonable Price in a relaxed setting. Under $15 for a dozen oysters (t/a) very fair price compared to what you pay in a Sydney restaurant! Quality is what I'd describe as 'authenic'- what you see is what you get, it's not a gastronomic bonanza but very fair for the price you pay. There's cheap soup available and also fresh seafood by the kilo. Sitting there outside with a platter of oysters and swordfish steak at around $30, right on the dock, with boats swaying by... What's not to love?
Cheukwils
Not too special comparing to sydney's quality, or maybe i was expecting a bit too much. but hey, overall i still liked it. tried both of the platters, its ok.
Rocket 3805
YUMMM!. I would rate the lower deck fish and chips in the top 5 in Australia (non restaurant).
Tony Ramos
I rather eat dinner here than "upper deck"
Juse
Good, reasonable price. Quality is fair for the price you pay. Very acceptable though not as good as Launceston's Seaport fish and chips.
Michaelk
I ordered the Fishermans basket and it was terrible! The prawns were smaller than some I have found in fried rice, the fish wine batter was terrible and the serving size was very small! I originally came here because of the positive reviews but I would not reccomend it! Spend your money elsewhere, like flippers just next door - much better seafood for cheaper!
Meg
Great simple seafood. Yum.

Mures upper deck is in Lonely Planet, it should include the Lower Deck. Same fish at a better price. This is a very busy Bistro, alive with chefs, serving staff and customers. The ambience is created by the bustle, conversation, decking floors, model fish swinging in a high pitched skylight, patrons enjoying a good fish order, happy to get their own cutlery and serviettes. There is a large range of fresh fish for sale, cooked and uncooked. We ordered, todays special, fresh crayfish, with salad, coleslaw and fries. Around 50% less than most restaurants, and a fisherman's basket, also well priced. Our orders were prepared and presented beautifully. The fresh uncooked fish on offer, is attractively displayed in large glass chilled show cases. Mures have their own smokehouse and gourmet seafood line. Plus a range of George Mure Range Wines, which were created to compliment Mures seafood. This bistro is delightfully located on the Dock, surrounded by fishing vessels and luxury yachts and close to the centre. It's popularity is well deserved.
Jason Lee
Great fresh seafood in a kid-friendly, non-pretentious atmosphere. I actually don't like seafood that much (I went cause my wife loves it) but I found the fisherman's basket wonderful and would consider coming back which is rare for me
Bec Brown
Straight from the ocean . . .. Seafood doesn't get any fresher when it's straight from the boat.

Mure's have their own fisherman that go out each morning and bring their catch straight back to the restaurant. Great selection of seafood to choice from.

Old school (non greasy) fish and chips, friendly staff and great value for money.
Rebecca Patterson
Good fresh fish in open simple surround with lots of kids having fun. Basic but good.
Vkhong
...sorry to say but it was expensive & not fresh, more like a fast food joint for Fish & Chips...

M's auntie said we had to go here. Upstairs is the fancy bit; downstairs is the spacious foodcourt like area, which reminded me of the States for some reason. It was pleasantly surprising in its cleanliness. The menu included scallop pies. Of course we went in. It was our first day and the sun was shining brightly. I liked the view of the Jam Factory building across the dock, and the roped up boats. It reminded me of a town in South West France I love. Mure's Lower Deck Victoria Dock Hobart TAS 7000

The fish basket at The Mures consists of the battered fish, crumbed fish, scallops, prawns, squids and chips. Cheap and very good value...
Chloe
Mures Lower Deck is family and group friendly, with large tables, stuffed toy souvenirs, and ice cream for the kids. As a random note, I thought the water dispensers were peculiarly sophisticated, with chilled and room temperature options.
Foodinfocusz
Mures is all about a wonderful location and amazing fresh seafood. From casual to fine dining, on the upper deck, they have it covered!
JV
Don't miss out on finishing dinner with amazing ice cream on the way out. They jampack the icecream in cups or cones and two huge scoops are only $4.50... deadly!!
