Review Chillies Indian Restaurant - Hobart

Sarfaraz D. Merchant
Did a takeaway from here. Food was finger licking good, and the portions sizes were more than sufficient. Definite recommendation to soothe your palette if you’re craving a good curry or any Indian food.

Worst Indian restaurant I have ever been to. Had to wait 20 mins for food when the restaurant was quiet. One of the ladies in the counter was rude. When we gave feedback about the food, the lady said that’s how it should be. Price is okay, however not worth going if you’re looking for a good Indian food. The whole ambiance of the restaurant was quiet upsetting.

To keep it simple, I had an worst dine in experience here. The food arrived late, I didn’t get the food how I wanted and ordered, neither the food was nice and tasty. It’s just waste of money and waste of time. I won’t recommend this place to anyone else. I am sad that there is no zero or minus star in the rating. Must improve the quality of the food as well.

Excellent Indian food with great atmosphere and friendly staff. Serving size was good as well.

Food is okay. But too late. Its very sad to see how the cashier treated waitress. That poor girl may be new and doing everything by herself and girl at the cashier was demanding and scolded her many times. Disappointed to see such things happens in Australia

Best Goat curry in town. I went three times in a month because of Goat Curry. Thank you chef for amazing food.

Besides the 2:45am stomach-turn suggesting something is wrong with the food I ordered, the Goan (Keralan) fish curry was not a Keralan Fish curry, rather it was a Northen Indian base. The base should be coconut based, light, lemon yellowish and aromatic with the nutty flavours of fresh curry leaves. The staff were polite and at least one being South Indian and the cook as well, I’m told they know better than me this is the case— there was no argument from them.So I hate it when I have to pay for something I did not order because restaurants like this one have no standard or sense of shame…won’t be recommending this place to anyone

We enjoyed an excellent meal here! We shared Onion bhaji, beef Kadhai and Butter Chicken. All dishes were excellent and the owners were lovely and very welcoming.

I thought we have the best indian restaurants in Sydney. Well i must say after coming to CHILLIS in Hobart you come second, this place is the best. Those living in Hobart get yourself here if you like Indian food.

This would have to be the best Indian food we have ever had. Highly recommend. The butter chicken is to die for.

This is a hidden delight in Sandy Bay, tucked away, a short walk from Salamanca. Bright, cheerful, fun decor; polite, friendly service and food was fresh and tasted delicious. Excellent value for money! We will be back next time we are in Hobart

We both had goat curry and it was lovely. Staff very friendly. Didn’t have to wait long for our meal to come.

The most delicious vindaloo I've had in a very long time. Would visit again if in the neighbourhood. Service was a tad slow, but location, pricing and deliciousness were a-okay.

One of the best restaurants in Sandy Bay, very delicious food

Great service - nothing was to much trouble. Food excellent. Good prices.

My dish seemed to lack flavour and spice and meat content was minimal. A little disappointed this time.

The butter chicken was really good , so did the cheese garlic bread! Friendly staff. Highly recommended!

Butter chicken was very good (Highly recommended).
The desserts were delicious (Recommended).
Goat curry was not bad.
The tandoori meat plater was just okay.
The price was around $90 for all of these plus a cup of coffee.

Great service, excellent food! Were more than happy to provide extra napkins for the sweat from their very spicy (but oh so flavourful) vindaloo!I definitely recommend trying the lamb kadhai and their malai kofta, which is much earthier and less sweet than many of the other's I've tried in Hobart.

Went to this Indian restaurant for takeaway food. Staff was very friendly. Waited about 30 minutes but the food was really good. Chicken curry had lots of huge chunks in it, which was good value. Garlic naan and butter naan were both deliciously soft. And the veg samosas were savory as well. The only downside is probably the price. $3.5 for one piece of naan is a bit expensive.

We ordered takeaway meals. Food was good and tasty but they left out one naan bread so had to phone then back and go and get it. Polite and apologetic when we returned. The menu is out of date and prices are around $1 each more expensive than stated. The owners had no idea they were on zomato and didn't know what it was? They have no website at present so need this service so people can see their menu. Food was $94+ for 4 meals, 3 naan bread, 2 serves of entree veg samosa (4 large pieces) and one mushroom pilau and 3 steamed basmati rice. Would try again. They are in the entertainment book but 25% off total meal dine in only.

Food: Great variety, very authentic. Serving sizes good. Great wine list comprising of lots of local choices.
Service: a little on the slow side but friendly.
Highlight was the Aloo Chops entree which came with an amazing mint sauce.
Take away review - we had butter chicken, paneer makhani, beef bombay, butter & garlic naan & papadams. The best dish was paneer makhani, mild but full of flavour and the naans. The naans were soft & light, very moorish.

The other curries were on the salty side.

It was a fine takeaway. I would dine in the future to see if it is better a better experience. The menu on zomato is not current from price point.

Great Indian food located in peaceful sandy bay! I ordered a familiar favourite the butter chicken as well as some garlic naan. Food was delicious and just the right about for spice used. A good find and will be returning here next time I'm in Tasmania.

I got the Aloo Chick Pea Masala and Veg Pakora - both vegan and delicious! Very quick service as well.

All round winner. Chillies is constantly a winner for us - authentic tasty food, well priced, pleasant staff, in a local setting. One of our weekly staples!

Great food, great service... Stopped in whilst on holidays from Melbourne. Really enjoyed the meal - beautifully made curries (just right amount of flavour), generous serves and excellent, attentive + fast service. This was well up to par with the many great Indian eateries we have at home - would definitely recommend a visit.

Great food! but TERRIBLE SERVICE. The food was fantastic, we've gone their multiple times and have loved it every time. However it might be because we are young uni students, but we are met with utmost content and rudeness!! Please make the experience nicer with nicer staff thanks.

Great Food - Hit The Spot 17.03.2014. Great food and attentive service - challenge yourself to try something you have not had before - I did and was not disappointed!

A little removed from the CBD/Salamanca , but making for easy parking.

Good spot to grab a meal if going to a show at Wrest Point as only 5 minutes down Sandy Bay Road.

Authentic Indian home cooking. Went there on a Monday evening - quiet, but pleasant ambiance, and very friendly staff. Good authentic Indian cooking, but not flashy. We had the vegetarian combination entree (Samosas, pakora, etc - excellent value) followed by Malai Kofta and Lamb Saag, plus a delightful butter naan. The Saag was excellent - beautifully blended, with the odd flash of fresh coriander and cardamom. The malai kofta was rich, creamy, and spicey, as it should be. And we can recommend the freshly made mango lassi. Great Indian cooking in the heart of Sandy Bay at a reasonable price.

My boyfriend & I ate dinner here on Saturday night.
Mains were a Butter chicken & a chicken Korma, sides were rice for 2 and garlic naan.
The food was delicious, one of the best butter chickens I've ever had. The Korma was nice however was lacking the massive flavour hit I'm use to with previous Kormas. Venue was nice with friendly waitstaff. Would recommend for people who like subtle Indian food.

Takeaway delicous!. Had a great takeaway feast from Chillies last night. Loved the lamb saag and vindaloo. Great pakora/samosa. Would eat again!

Best Indian I have had in a while. Full of flavor. Non greasy. Friendly staff. Highly recommend.

Great food. No overtly creamy, oily curries. Nice service.

My wife and I ate at Chillies on 16 and 18 October 2013.

The staff were friendly, helpful and professional.

We ate lamb and vegetarian dishes. The servings were generous. The sauces were beautifully spicy and rich. The meat was melt in your mouth tender. The vegetarian entree dishes were crisp and full of flavour.

Eating at Chillies was one of the highlights of our visit to Hobart.

I highly recommend Chillies.

This place was amazing. Not only was the food delicious but the waiter we had really made our night. She was lovely and if I lived in Hobart, I'd be coming back weekly! I will definitely tell everyone in Melbourne they need to come here when visiting Hobart. Love it.

Absolutely love this place! Eat here pretty much weekly, take away or dine in, brilliant. The only issue is that we eat here way too much, and not enough at the same time! They make a killer Chicken Tikka Masala and an amazing Rogan Josh, definitely love the cheese and garlic naan though. Scrumptious. Would highly recommend!

Beautiful meal! Best Indian I've had for a long time!!!

We came because the tandoor was recommended as the best in Tasmania by SBS's Feast magazine and were not disappointed. Great food, fast service, icy cold Kingfisher beer - life is good.

Spicy, Authentic Indian!. Great place. I knew i was onto a good thing when I rocked up and there were two Indian taxi drivers picking up takeaway. Spicy and authentic and if you want 'indian' spicy just ask , it was pretty damn hot for me & i'm Sri Lankan.
Food was really good, you could tell it was authentic cause of all the cloves, cardimom, onion, chillies etc still in the curry. First good indian place i have eaten at in Sydney , Melbourne or in Hobart!
Will definitely be back.

Awesome Indian food. Best in hobart and most authentic. Great service, very friendly. Highly recommend the tandoori lamb cutlets, chicken tikka masala and the butter chicken.
