Review Rain Check Lounge - Hobart

Fun cafe that offers abit of everything, and all is delicious! I sat outside in the autumn sunshine on the street, which was very comfortable. Fast and friendly service too 👌🏼

Just spent the most wonderful evening dining here with a friend, enjoying the Christmas Chef’s Table (both the standard + vegetarian menus) - highly recommend! Delicious food, excellent service, cosy atmosphere - well done all round.
Andrew Drew Caswell
Excellent little cafe with exceptional service, very tasty breakfasts and superb coffee ☕

Great coffee and food. Very tasty! Great customer service also!

Raincheck is one of my absolute favourite cafes in Hobart. It had been a while since going for breakfast and I was not disappointed! The food is always spot on. My breakfast burger of pulled pork, halloumi, egg and hash browns was bloody delicious! The coffee is always excellent and the staff are some of the best around. Do yourself a favour and head there for breakfast , lunch or dinner!

Traveling solo in Hobart this is a perfect place for dinner. Friendly welcoming service - had a coffee here earlier which is what prompted the dinner visit. What a treat. Perfectly cooked duck with an abundance of perfectly cooked veggies and next level delicious crispy potatoes served with a subtle and tasty red wine jus. (Everything was so good I forgave the fact that it was served in a bowl style plate which I really don’t enjoy for food which needs cutting)

On holiday in Hobart and this place was recommended to us by a local. Always trust local knowledge and was not disappointed. The Rain check stack was a beautiful combination of tastes that merged into an awesome breakfast. Coffee was great and the service friendly and prompt. Cannot fault this place 👍

Yummers! Moroccan Lamb shoulder was so so filling, so delicious, so many flavours. Highly recommend Raincheck Lounge. Staff were also really friendly.

Went in the other day and got in door and waitress says hello table for 2 and then tells me I can only have drinks and 4 items only from menu eg chips or these other 3 things. Well straight away I wasn't impressed it's the 3-5 pm menu. Then got an iced chocolate in a glass so small milk flavour I small scoop icecream 6.50 omg and a child's one for 4.00 it was so small what a rip off. And the chips in a small bowl 8.00. I wasn't impressed. Don't think I will be going back. But all these people rave about this place don't know why?????
Joanne Thomson
Very much enjoyed my 10 minute sit down for a coffee, before getting up again to run errands in town. Such friendly staff, fast service and was such a nice, comforting coffee. Definitely a place to drop in to have a minute to yourself and relax ďż˝ Will return!
Darren Alexander
Well that was the most over priced over rated food I've had in Hobart.. For a long time. The staff walked of halfway through me asking a question... The food (meatloaf) was served cold the chips were over cooked and overall it took over 25 minutes to receive... not even a peace of lettuce served with the so called meatloaf sandwich, Not sure why some people rate this place?? I certainly don't and want...
Jenny Willing
I was there at their busy lunch time and a bit worried about taking up space at a table that could have accommodated three people but the staff assured me it was no trouble. Great coffee (always has been), great selection of wine, food, including GF and Vegan options, and friendly efficient service.
Angela Richards
Seriously the best coffee you will get in Hobart. The staff are so friendly too...to me an absolute winner of a place!

Great food, great service, great wine, great location! We always choose The Raincheck Lounge as our catch up spot as it's always fantastic, A+, gold stars, 10/10. Love this place!

Such a relaxing place to be. We always feel at home here. The menu is great and always changing. Service is reliably excellent. The staff always remember us and reccomend wines we might like. My most reccomemded place to visit.
Gwen Richardson
Nice coffee, nice food, nice table service but when it came time to pay, no service. Waited over 10 minutes at counter to pay with the two staff members ignoring the growing queue. Suddenly the girl sitting and having coffee and chatting on customer side of counter leapt up, took cash from person behind me and run around the counter to the till. Really rude. Go to Berta across the road.

I haven't been for a few years after a number of disappointing visits. Not this time. The atmosphere is energetic and staff actually seem to like you and are no longer to cool to laugh!! Service was lovely, food refreshingly good. Great wine list and the gin of the day, well lets just say we tried a couple then a couple more. Yum! Most definitely reccomend and be back. Xxx

Fantastic menu with exciting choices for all food types, fabulous drinks menu and wonderful service. Staff were bubbly and welcoming. The toilets very eco-friendly and I was impressed big time.

My favourite little cafe to go for breakfast or a wine after work. Such a welcoming, friendly space to hang out! Staff are lovely too :)
Alex Williams
As usual great coffee, great hot chocolate and a great brunch. We had the breakfast stack this time and enjoyed it. My son loved the breakfast burger ďż˝

Awesome place, awesome food/beverages and awesome staff. Can’t wait to come back for G&T.

Food was really good coffee was great we even brought coffee beans to take home Nice and warm to inside which was great as we are from Brisbane and it’s bloody cold here

Had the chef’s set menu last night and it was delicious x thank you for a wonderful meal and being so accommodating with dessert- we will be back for sure x

Interesting mix of patrons and a warm welcoming atmosphere.
Always happy with the meals.
The slow cooked Tasmanian Lamb Shoulder with grilled eggplant, zucchini, quinoa, orange, walnuts and spiced yoghurt is awesome. A short but functional selection of wines works out OK.

Location is great, however the mleals were average and overpriced. Eggs Benedict was nearly $20 for two overcooked slices of bacon and eggs. I have been herr before and the quality has certainly dropped. Hopefully just one of those days.

Love the coffee here. Ordered the baked eggs and they were ‘ok’ but I did eat around the sloppy egg white 🤢 can’t help it but if I notice that, my appetite wanes considerably. I’m also not a fan of boards as serving plates. They harbor bacteria. Placing my butter on it was never going to work. Coffee was great. Next to me eating were an elderly couple. 92 and 95 respectively. I know this because they sat on the couch and couldn’t pick themselves up out of it. I looked around and none of the waiting staff had noticed. If you have two older people in your midst you should be very conscious of it. I stood up and had to lift the lady from the couch. She was adorable. I was a little disappointed that no one in the cafe actually took notice. Coffee was lovely, but you lost points for the food and the lack of attention for the older ones. If you are disabled or suffer from any mobility issues this place is not appropriate. The floor is a little uneven and I can’t imagine it’d be easy getting a wheel chair into the space.

After moving to Hobart, this has become a bit of a staple. I think the thing that has kept us going back is the service. Regardless of how busy it is, they are always friendly and helpful. It may take time to get the meal, but that comes with any busy place, and it's never an onerous wait.

The food has been fantastic, although a little variable, depending on the day. I've ordered eggs Benedict a few times. They use bacon, instead of ham, which is A-OK with me. The first two occasions, the bacon was nice an crispy; the second two, it was stringy, and the fat was not rendered out properly (fairly common flaw in Australia). The Hollandaise was spot-on, and I really like the sourdough toast that it's served on. I've also had the breakfast quesadilla and the chicken burger, both of which were awesome, and their fruit toast really has the attention of my 3-year-old.

*This review is plainly for the coffee, the food is not being reviewed*
Visited Raincheck Lounge on a number of occasions for coffee, initially was recommended by a friend but the first coffee a skinny extra shot latte was burnt and though drinkable wasn't very nice. I gave the place another go with said friend and got a long black, while definitely was better than the latte, it was no better than what you could expect in a McCafe.
Driving home through north Hobart with not many places open on a Sunday evening and knowing that they had recently changed their coffee beans, I decided to order another latte and a mocha for my wife. Biggest mistake, I guess bad things come in threes as this was the third time here (and the last) the coffee was not drinkable, while I don't usually throw out food or drinks i paid for, this was an exception, the coffee again was burnt and tasted atrocious, the mocha tasted like dish water.
I'm sorry but I'm staying clear from this place, I'll go a couple doors down to Born in Brunswick instead.

Breakfast- nice but not worth the price. I had the green bowl which was $16, for a couple of florets of brocoli, a little bit of spinach and avocado plus an egg. Left hungry. The addition of a piece of toast would have made the dish much better and would have left me satisfied. My partner had the chorizo omelette which was nothing special but at least more filling.
Keshia McNally
Went there for their breakfast (goes all day, always a plus). The service was great. Nice place for a simple breakfast and relaxed atmosphere. Had the green bowl which was really good.

Good test is busy time - didn't come up so well. Boiled eggs were wrong side of soft, toast cold, bacon not very tasty and hard to eat. Their version of long mac not to my liking. Then cashier could not work out how much change I was owed from $50.30 on bill of $20.30! Great location and interesting menu. Just not up to scratch today.b

Service. If you want it this might not be the place for you. You'll get more service on a bad day in Mordor. Also If you want good food go somewhere else, give rain check lounge a raincheck (a permanent one😅) The octopus might have been employed as part of a truck tyre or perhaps insulation back when it was alive. My friends food arrived 15 mins before mine which was great because I like eating cold food as my friend waits for me to finish eating because they were done aaaages ago. Also it would really help if when you order two entrees they bring you two entrees instead of one entree that is put on the table while the waiter says "this is two" at a volume of 5 decibels because it would be extremely easy to mistake it as one, then instead of apologising and fixing it when you ask them if that is really two entrees they just look at you. Not a place I would recommend if you like good food and service. If you enjoy overpriced bad food and poor service I highly recommend you come here for dinner :D

The tapas and the wine list here should be enough to entice you. I try to eat here at least once every time I'm in Hobart. Really interesting dishes served with excellent service and local produce. The Goaty Hill sparkling that accompanied my salt and pepper calamari last time I ate there was perfect. Great choice thanks!!

Second visit after a long break. Fist time visiting was a poor experience. This time, a much nicer experience. Coffee is nice. Service was great. The biggest issue I had first time round was the service. Felt as though I was troubling the staff with my order. This time, staff happy to be there making it worth the trip back.

We had breakfast at Raincheck on a busy Sunday morning. The staff where helpful and friendly even during such a busy time. The standard of the food and coffee was also very good. Would recommend.
Bianca Roberts
Food here is beautiful quality and filling, although it seems there can be no variations or additions to items on the menu. Coffee blend is a bit acidic for my liking. The atmosphere is lovely here, industrial chic style and presentation of meals is quite aesthetically pleasing.

We waited about 25 minutes for a takeaway coffee on Sunday. I had to throw mine out after 3 sips it was so awful, with a watery, dishwater taste (long black). My partner's latte was 'watery and burnt'. Pretty poor effort!

Had breakfast here this morning, quite like the feel of the place especially the couches etc.
Didn't have a booking but were accommodated as long as we vacated the table at the set time, all good.
Staff pleasant and prompt.
Food was ok, my eggs were a bit lacking in taste
What let it down for us were the people with screaming babies that were up in the area behind the kitchen.
Surely if your baby is crying loudly it's not too much to assume you'd take it outside till its quietened down?

A pleasant surprise - we decided on the Chef's Table $80 for 2 ppl (the menu varies) but tonight I wasn't wowed by the menu. However we had previously had this & loved it so we all decided on it. We were not disappointed. The meal was well worth the value.

Despite there only being 5 of us, we were accommodated with the Chef's Table menu, and menu tailored for a mum-to-be. The food was innovative, with pretty presentation. I highly recommend the calamari, hulumi churros with chilli jam, summer salad, honey & lavender mess. I didn't give it a score of 5 as the menu felt a bit heavy (slowed cooked beef) for a hot evening & the acoustics in the cafe was very loud, which made conversations around the table hard to hear. Staff was friendly & accommodating.

Tasty, warm cafe in North Hobart. Inviting with friendly staff and great breakfast options - modest in portion and price but leaves you feeling satisfied and ready to face the day.

Found this place while staying in Hobart. The breakfast here is more creative than your typical cafe and i loved it! I had the hash brown with salsa, fried egg and bacon. The salsa was super fresh and the food came out really quickly.

After possibly hitting my limit of whipped cream filled ĂŠclairs over the last short while, I have focused my energy and calorie consumption firmly back on hot chocolate (I am not forgetting ĂŠclairs, but I am worried I will start enjoying these imposters that fill Hobart if I continue eating them!).
FancyCake
Lovely atmosphere to really relax on one of the couches or spacious boothes, but really it's average breakfast and coffee. There are some nice dishes on the breakfast menu but each one needs a bit of a lift. The braised lamb with fried egg could really use some rocket to lighten it up. The fritters with smoked trout (delicious!) could use a bit more punch in the salsa verde. Portion sizes are good and the staff were nice. Would definitely be a good date spot at night.
Jojo
The hot chocolate is the best in Hobart but the wait staff have SERIOUS attitude problems. It's like they have meetings and get together and say "ok, this is our brand and vibe. Let's treat everyone like they are inferior. Let's be angry that they have come into our cafe/lounge and act like we don't need their business." Well mission accomplished. I know more than one person who will go in specifically to take a copy of the state cinema show times and not buy anything in protest of your staff and management's disgusting attitude.

Service here is quite polarized, but the food is good especially if you're after standard classic brekky food that's always tasty and hits the spot. Their coffee is nice, but nothing to write home about. Very popular with the community
Sophia Sheehan
This cafe attracts a tonne of North Hobart 'regulars' and it's easy to see why. The interior is super retro and cosy, the music is funky and the staff smiley - creating a lovely ambience. The brekky menu isn't overly imaginative but food is always consistant. The lunch/tapas menu offers a bit more excitement for the foodie. The wine menu features some beautiful Tassie wines. Perfect place to sit back into a comfy armchair with a (much talked about) hot chocolate after a movie at the State cinema.

Had a burger plus some tapas, over all food was very good and service was attentive; would recommend, a good dinning experience.
Ansttibe
Very unimpressed. I waited 15 minuets for a takeaway hot chocolate. Once I got it it was on the cooler side of warm and not at all chocolaty. I had to go back and stir it and even then it only had mild chocolate taste. Also ordered marshmallows with it and did not receive any. And the staff did not seam to care at all about my inconvenience of having to go back.
Deffinatly never going back

Great spot for breakfast, lunch or dinner. This is where we take all our interstate visitors to show off Hobart fare. The food is always amazing, good coffee, the service is friendly and the North Hobart strip provides some nice window shopping to walk it all off.
The omelettes are definitely hot favourites for breakfast, and the eggs, bacon, smashed avocado & fetta and beans (and probably everything else) are great too.
The lunch menu isn't quite as extensive but we love their chicken sandwiches.
The Chef's Table for dinner is fantastic. The tapas-style menu has all the best picks from Hobart's fresh seasonal produce, you can substitute dishes if you have special dietary requirements, and the price is very reasonable.
Lisa
Lovely atmosphere, delicious food. Very warm and relaxed environment combined with delicious generously portioned tapas.

Excellent. Relaxing vibe to this restaurant, service was excellent, food delicious a lot of tapas , good price, enjoy :)

This place is poor. Can't review the food as we sat there for 50 minutes waiting to order. Been here 4 times, 4 bad experiences. Avoid.

Worst service. The worst customer service I have ever experienced! The waiter was terribly rude , he walked away after dropping the menu on the table and didn't even serve me for drinking water which I asked politely. Never come back again! EVER!!

My wife and I stopped in here for a light lunch on a Saturday afternoon.
Was greeted quickly in this busy cafe- staff were super helpful with the big selection of adult beverages.
I had a fantastic short mac that arrived in no time.
We ate the heirloom tomato salad and pulled pork tacos. YUM
Cool joint.

Interesting!. Interesting food - unconventional but fun. As was the service. Incredibly noisy inside (Saturday night) but the outside tables were good, with overhead heaters. Friendly staff, eccentric proprietor, and the menu included unconventional but balanced combinations which I hadn't met before. Moderately priced and just down the road from the cinema.
David Lawson
Do not go there for coffee! If you'll see what I mean.
Jamie
Best eggs Benedict in town yum yum staff always friendly

The "in house salmon" in my opinion was from a tin, as was the honey - which they didn't even bother to remove from the little Kraft packaging. Come on. Your in the land of good food & your serving bad food.

I was nervous. Loved it, we arrived in Hobart, at 10pm sat night and by chance came across the place. Food was great along with the service. Went back the next two days for breakfast, the last a Monday morning not quite as goodas previous although same person making the coffe. Clean the machine after the weekend? All in all would recommend
Anna
We've been to Raincheck a few times for breakfast now and had delicious meals and enjoyed friendly service each time. My only complaint is that they serve a little sachet of Kraft honey with the Chai which I find a little tacky when Hobart has the most delicious local honey.
LachlanC
A lovely combination of interesting food with good wine and casual eclectic ambiance. Glad we dropped in :)

Excellent breakfast, especially the eggs benedict. Food and service appears to be better on the weekends. Great place to relax and unwind, but be prepared for a wait.
Robert Gavin
It always bewilders me to read of reviews that complain of the staff at Raincheck. We go there once a week. On Wednesdays, which is when the chefs table menu changes. Chef's table is fantastic value - about $65, and another $40 for the wine. Meal for two - gourmet meal for two - for $100. Fantastic value. This week - broccoli with spiced yoghurt, roulade of salmon with dill and pickled beetroot; confit of rabbit with bread sauce; and fig and almond tart with pistachio praline. Doing febfast, so no wine. Service, as usual, is familiar and friendly. Do yourself a favour and go there.
Honest Food
The worst service I have ever received! Myself and a group of friends booked for lunch, we were brutally seated on a dirty table by a very rude woman with glasses.. She grunted and walked away after dropping the menus, the wine was wrong and not what we ordered (no apology) the tapas were really quite terrible.. Mainly the stuffed mushrooms that tasted like they came from "Amigos"... All in all a really bad birthday lunch. Second chance my partner and I went in for a weekend lunch, a curly haired man met us at the door, asked what we wanted held two menus out.. And quite literally shook them in our faces! I have never felt so belittled, embarrassed and unwelcome! The staff are unnecessarily pretentious... After my terrible experience I told a lot of other locals and they weren't surprised, apparently it's the norm at Raincheck, I don't think I'll spend money again to be made to feel worthless !
The only good thing in this business is the young bald male barista with a cute smile, absolutely charming! Never again!!!

Nice eggs florentine with GF bread. Service was pretty slow but OK given it was packed, gluten free bread available
Bree
Lovely. Service was great, came in when it was busy and was served quickly. The coffee was beautiful and the food was good. Will come back when in Hobart again.

Okay.. The coffee here is definitely a stand out in hobart but the food was not the best. Definitely will only go in for quick coffees from now on.

Came due to urbanspoon rating and was not disappointed. Great coffee, prompt service and great food. The initial feel we got was similar to thw Workmans cafe in matamata nz.I had beans on toast and my partner had baked eggs with chorizo. Both highly recommended. Returned again on Anzac day to find open and despite tables being reserved were squeezed in. This time we ordered omlettes one salmon one Spanish. Bit excellent and very filling. Overall two excellent experiences and highly recommended.

Rain check. One Of my locals. I only come here for the coffee. It's more the feel of the place on a winters day that I have fallen in love with. Great vibe
DDM
House smoked salmon was dry and over cooked. Presentation bland. Mushrooms dry and flavorless, some thyme would have made them stand out a bit more. Some garnish would have been nice. Maybe it was just this meal, but I thought if anything you could get some good salmon in Tasmania. Oh well. At least the coffees were good.
Vic
Hobart needs more places like this.
Loved it - great food, great coffee, great service. I'll be back.

The food and service are reliably good which leads us to its final vantage point. As the charismatic manager, Juppy reckons, consistency is their cornerstone.
Juppy’s been managing Raincheck for over two years now and Raincheck has been open almost ten years. And like him, service is friendly and fun and the quality of meals can be anticipated. It’s food they love and want to share with others.
We like to excite ourselves with what we serve. We’re confident in what we’re providing and we’re trying to provide food we love to eat, prepare and food that we’re happy to deliver to somebody else.
Juppy is formerly of Gondwana. His head chef is Andrew Lax apprenticed at the Elbowroom years ago (when it was an awesome fancy-pants French restaurant) and he has worked at Panache and T42. Raincheck is owned by Carl Windsor.

Ham hock croquet's with pea puree and gorgonzola and porcini arancini with some of the most delicious mayo ever. I literally could have eaten 10 of these. But I saved myself for mains.
Pumpkin and pine nut gnocchi...The gnocchi was stand out for me. I'm pretty sure I could eat it again and again and love it more and more each time.
What I like about Raincheck is how casual and relaxed it is. Just a simple table filled to the brim with delicious food, chilled wine and best friends. So simple but so important and special.

It’s time for an old favourite! Raincheck Lounge has been our ‘go to’ venue for a long time. Whenever in doubt, go to Raincheck! More often than not our occasional visits have coincided with a movie at the State Cinema just across the road, but in this case we were there purely for the food. No better excuse needed! Something that Raincheck Lounge do very well is their ‘Chef’s Table’ menu, and we keep a keen eye on their Facebook page to see what awesome little delicacies they want to throw at their customers each week! The regular menu is a tapas style menu, and has some exceptional choices; Huon Valley mushrooms in garlic, salted cod croquettes with capsicum mayonnaise(!!), ham hock terrine with piccalilli… BUT! Even better is their Chef’s Table menu. This is a menu that they use as a vehicle to show off what’s fresh, in season and likely to make your taste buds sing! For only $70 for two people for four(!) courses (including some great sourdough with oil and balsamic), it’s also g

Overall, a very nice cafe and even though coffees weren’t great, the food was to die for!

1/ More cookie dough chunky than cookie-cutout coffee club - check 2/ Open on the Sunday morning - check 3/ Frequented - i.e more than 5 tables occupied - check 4/ Frequenters with dog - check Oh noes, absolutely devastating blow was this visit to Raincheck Lounge. I am not sure what went wrong as it seemed to check off some things which make a good cafe. I'll admit I was a little bit disappointed with our one and only sit down Sunday brunch in Tassie - mainly because we passed up so many other cafes on Elizabeth St in favour of Raincheck Lounge. Perhaps the expectations were set way too high...I guess this is something we will never know because it's going to be some time before we head back down south. The coffees were underwhelming and tepid - (Ok so I do have a preference for xxxx hot but I do try to take that into consideration when I say that they were tepid) Josh - he ordered a mocha - and choc chips were used as the chocolate half - but the milk was not warmed enough to melt th
