Review The Dragon Bowl - Hobart

Kyle Liu
Best Chinese food in town. Ordered ginger and spring onion fish, cumin lamb, green bean with pork mince and vegetable fried rice. Each dish was tasty and well-seasoned. Friendly service. Nothing was left on the plates. Even my friend with a small appetite did well clearing plates. Highly recommended.

I've been to Chinese restaurants in at least nine countries, and this is the first that doesn't serve tea as part of the meal. Service was prompt and the waiter was attentive, although the place was empty at 6pm on a Friday. The food came quickly and was piping hot. The chicken soup, spring rolls, noodles, and curry puff were average; nothing to write home about. The Black Fungus with Bok Choy and Szechuan eggplant were very flavourful with distinct textures, and the chili green beans were possibly the best I've had. Prices are fairly high considering the portion size.

Excellent food, the sweet and sour chicken batter was light and crispy and the vegetable fried rice was fresh and delicious. Good value and friendly service.

We had Fried rices, fried dumpling, combination seafood and green bean with pork mince. Everything was great!

Beef was very raw, it was like fake meat made of starch. The staff did not allow us to use Entertainment card with ridiculous excuses. Won’t go again.

One of the best Chinese I had in a while : combination fried rice, malaysian noodles and pan fried dumplings to share... amazing !

Don't order food from this restaurant. I paid $17 for sweet and sour pork and what they gave me was pork fat coated in flour and dip fried. The food was disgusting and is not worth the price. Stay away!

Service was Terrible! Was told it would be a 20 minute wait for dinner and waited well over an 2 hours with no sign of our meals. At which point it was too late for us to get food anywhere else. Food was fine when it came but definitely not worth the wait ! Recommend takeaway as dining In was a very unpleasant experience!

Such a shame i ordered for the first time tonight and found a big peice of glass in my fried rice

Great food. Lunch Special is good value however I think that the takeaway price on the dinner menu is expensive for the portion size you get. The food is very nice however at $35 for battered sweet and sour pork and a fried rice I expected a full container of the main however it was a small brown bag with only about 10-12 pieces of pork in it which was only just enough to feed 1 person and definately not 2 people. Food has always been nice though.

Quick takeaway. Attentive staff. Good quantity/serves. Reasonable quality for usual Oz version of Chinese dishes, and reasonable value for money. Will go again !

Been here a few times. Each time food was superb. Sometimes the wait staff are a bit out of breath. ..
Menu is extensive and everything I've had has been great. Well priced and tasty. Loved the minced pork & beans. Others have had the honey chicken- again. .very good. Will return.

We are 5 of us have holiday in Hobart, and went to this restaurant for dinner on the 26th of December.
The restaurant was quite full but the floor staff is only 2 girls.
I asked one of the girl why today only have 2 floor staff, and she said they only have 2 floor staffs everyday.
The girl was running like a chicken. They did bar, take order, clear up table, cash handling, welcoming customer, etc.
They really did a great job, even though the service was slow, table next to is also complaining for the delay.
I wish the owner of that restaurant read my review and give a high credit for those 2 girls and add more floor staff in the future.

The food i ordered was a spicy whole fish, sechuan crispy chicken, green beans with mince, and soup.
All food served was too salty.. but we were starving, and dont want to complain as the 2 floor staff was crazy busy run like chickens.

Please be wise to add more staff for a better service!

Perfectly competent table service restaurant with a standard Cantonese menu adapted to Western tastes. That's not at all bad, because the chef really can cook and the surroundings are pleasant and the service is friendly. Moderately priced wine list (Jansz NV at $40) and some excellent dishes. The roast duck ($28) was a very generous serve of boneless, moist/crispy tender duck and the chicken eggplant hot pot was excellent; savoury, slippery and fine. Don't look for super-trendy Kylie Kwong star dishes, but note that there are plenty of savvy Chinese students in here in groups, enjoying a night out at reasonable prices. BYO (!) at $5.00 per person makes this place even more attractive for a nice night out in Hobart town. It's a little outside the city centre, but a $10 taxi ride will take you to or from anywhere in the CBD.

The Dragon Bowl Dragon Bowl may have shaken off the bad juju that’s surrounded 196 Macquarie Street for decades. I took...
