Review Maning Reef Cafe - Hobart

Sarah Logie
Chips were soggy, small portions of fish for the price. Very disappointed as it used to be amazing a few years ago. Very hesitant to go back again.

Pretty damb average for price. Small amounts of fish and even smaller portions of chips in a large box, won't be going back again 😒

Great little stop outside of Hobart. We need lunch at 2:30pm and all the other restaurants and cafes nearby close their kitchen at 2pm. We had a great fish and chips and steak sandwiches here and the service was friendly and very fast! Would definitely come again

Disappointing. Service was fast and friendly but that is all it seems to be going for it. I ordered flathead and chips, they looked really nice in the box, but both the fish and chips were dry and chewy. It needed loads to sauce to eat it. It will be rather a while before visiting again.

Great service but fried food was not. Baked salmon was very nice. Pizzas coming out of the oven looked and smelled great and next time I would order. However the calamari, scallops and anything deep fried was dripping in batter and soaked in oil. Would recommend but stick with things coming out of the wood oven I suggest.

I was looking forward to a friendly establishment. The fish looked scrumptious. I indulged in a hot pizza. Very surprised at the number of locals who visited this establishment. I will return.

Delicious, fresh in-season scallops, and perfectly cooked potato chips. Friendly service and comfortable dining outdoors and in. I chose to sit outside originally, but the staff noticed it was getting cooler and politely offered me an indoor table, which was just lovely.

Great fresh food! Friendly service and great view. Had the vegetable sanger (tempura vegies with lettuce and tomato in a bun) with sweet potato fries with chili plum sauce. Yummy!

We were staying in Sandy Bay and asked the hotel where’s a good place for lunch and she suggested to head down to Maning Reef Cafe for some good fish and chippies and wood fire pizza so of course we rushed over. Located on Sandy Bay Road, there’s a great view of the bay and there’s quite a few seating indoor and out. The staff greeted you with such enthusiasm when you walk in that you can’t help but smile. Mr D got the flake because you can’t go into a fish and chip shop and not get a flake. The flake was a touch rubbery and had way too much salt on it. The chippies weren’t crunchy either and he was oh so disappointed.

We came here for dinner tonight while on holiday. It’s a small cafe, with limited indoor space and so we ordered take-away as the weather was looking threatening. My partner had the scallops and chips, while I went for a pizza (hot salami, olives, chilli oil and tomato- see pic). My pizza was great, I liked the thinner crust which meant I could actually eat most of it. I would have preferred it a little spicier, but it was really pretty good. My partner also enjoyed his scallops, and both our meals came out very quickly despite the restaurant being really busy.

I went there expect pugs. I was deeply dissapointed to find no smooshy faced animals on site. I got depressed and ordered a pizza and fish n chips. This was nice. However ive had better gamborinis in phuket. I will return with on pants on next time

I had high hopes for this place and when I ordered they couldn't really vary the order to suit what I wanted. I ended up ordering one of the fish sangas. It was good but pretty average. I also found the service quite average as they weren't too attentive.

Better than average fish and chips. A good serving of chips and staff were very efficient on a rather busy afternoon. A very clean cafe and is a very family friendly.

Decent food ok prices. Ate here on a Thursday night and it was very busy. The service was pretty sloppy when I first came in but it got better as I was served my meal. Probably better to get take away from here as opposed to eating in.
I had a fish sanger it was nice and the chips were good. I think I will get take away next time.

Yum. Excellent attentive service. Accommodate requests ( companion requested baked trevalla no chips but tempura veg and it Was No Trouble) my baked flounder perfect. Other meals pizza marinara plenty seafood and consumed with gusto, and trevalla perfect. Side salad a light fresh accompaniment. Drinks price more than reasonable with Tasmanian unlabelled wine, beers, waters available at very reasonable prices. Only pitfall may be waiting time when they become too busy! We'll done Maning Reef,
.

'Rusty' reception. Disappointing- unfriendly service, rusty utensils on the table and overpriced food.

Lovely. The fish was beautifully cooked and the tempura vegetables were sensational.

Average food and worst service in Tasmania.

Great fish and chips, one of the best in Hobart. Don't get the normal chips - get the sweet potato chips. you won't regret it!

Stingy servings, high prices.. My friend and I ordered two takeaway items from Maning Reef, some sweet potato fries and tempura mushrooms. We realise that these weren't "meals" but they were still expensive.

Unfortunately the servings were extremely small. A couple of mushrooms and a small lump of fries. When I asked the staff they apologised but said this is what they were told by management to serve. We left feeling very ripped off and disappointed with the food.

Won't be heading back.

This place has the best wood fired pizza and sensational fish around
I have just moved to sandy bay from Perth and reef has been the best part of the journey
If you are looking for a great thin based ailuthentic wood fired pizza then look no further
Greek salad on the side is a good move too
