Review Koma Ramen - Hobart

Nice Ramen go with Chinese style chili oil. Fried chicken is also good. Awesome, will come back again.

Good taste ramen. Basically the ramen is the same, only the topping is different based on your choice. We ordered the shrimp tempura, torakarage, and buta kakuni. All tasty. Will go back to try Infreno - some people said it is spicious (spicy and delicious)!

Waitress does not know the difference between pork cutlet and chicken cutlet. Food doesn't look appealing. The red one is mentai udon, personally to me tastes like sweet chili and mayo. Someone else ordered oyakodon.. which was salty and does not even resemble oyakodon at all.

Good location and fast service, but not the most authentic Japanese food in town.

I come here at least once per week, love Ramen and sushi roll here. Awesome!

A belated review: ramen broth tasted more like it was made of white sesame paste, nothing like bone broth, these ramen they are not worth the price. Went in half an hour before closing time wanting to dine in, and the waitress told us to quickly decide on our order, well she could have told us that they only do take-outs near closing time if they need time to clean up and close, we went off without placing any orders.

Had my Sunday dinner takeaway and the experience was absolutely awful. First of all the employee who worked showed poor customer service through not being able to understand and I had to repeat myself few times. I thought to myself the food better be good and I was deeply wrong. It literally was the most disappointing takeaway I ever eater. The ingredients were not fresh, the soup was Luke warm which gotten cold by the time it reached home. The salt was overpowering the whole dish. Overall, never setting my foot there.

Genuinely delicious and speedy service. Never been disappointed - probably favourite ramen place in Hobart. Take care of going late - they often are reluctant to seat people less than an hour before closing.

Tasty.
Full enough for 1 person each dish.
Tap water is provided free but you must ask the reception/cashier.
We ordered 1 aji ramen (sr i dont remember the name) which cost $13.5 and one Donkatsu with full of fried pork and mushroom with sauce topping.

Basic fit out with simple yet freindly service. A small but tasty menu which has a focus on Ramen with fresh noodles and Bento Boxes. A.small range of sushi and sashimi also available. Take away is available. Not licensed. A good casual dining options for a quick lunch.

Too salty and too Chinese-Japanese style on a Japanese Noodle house…Some dish combo didn't match correctly… If you went there just for having full in stomach, it's could be your choice…But if you have a little ideas on Japanese food or even on Japanese noodles, please pick the another one

Good value and tasty noodles. I had the vegetable stir fried noodles - they were a bit oily and there wasn't much variety in vegetable (cabbage and capsicum) but they were satisfying and it was a large serve. I also had vegetarian spring rolls - they were large and had a very tasty filling, probably some of the best I've tried.

There wasn't much of an atmosphere to the restaurant, but meals were served quickly and staff were friendly.

My soup was very oily but the pork was soft enough. there was not very much of anything in the bowl apart from noodles. okonomiyaki was meh. tofu was lack of flavor. wouldn't go back.

Noodles are so simple and I love them! Even your run of the mill 2-minute variety still generate a little bit of excitement every time I decide to cook up a bowl at home 😄

As I'm sure you can imagine, tasting the ramen in Japan was like heaven when we visited a few years back. On the other hand, it gave us a pretty high quality point of comparison for anything we were to ever taste in the future. So far the best ramen we've had outside Japan was at Mensousai Mugen in Melbourne (drop by the blog for our review).

So how did Koma Ramen on Elizabeth St in the heart of Hobart stack up?

They are certainly better than average, but I still walked away feeling a little underwhelmed.

When it comes to ramen it's the broth that is number one. Koma's was nice enough, and had clearly been cooked from scratch over a decent amount of time. However it lacked the balance, depth and intensity of flavour of a truly great ramen. The noodles also were quite thin, giving them a less substantial consistency than your typical udon or soba noodle. Still, we ARE talking noodles and noodles are always amazing 😜

In MKR vernacular, the pork slices were the hero of the dish. Not too thin, not too thick, they held their shape in the broth very well and had a really rich, slightly salty flavour that had me wanting another half a dozen slices!

It only set me back $12 for what was a very decent sized bowl of ramen. This is a great lunch time option for those working in town, providing you're confident mixing noodles and suits 😀 It'll be even better come winter!!

Score? 3 out of 5 food Komas!

Points were given for the Ramen Soup (i had Teriyaki Chicken Ramen Noodle Soup) and the Takoyaki (Octopus Balls) because they are a definite must try
HOWEVER points were deducted by the service (waitress was rather rude) also prices of food is rather expensive (EG:$8 for the Gyoza which were essentially bags of oil that exploded into your mouth once you bit into it) and $5 for Green Tea (from Lipton-the ordinary ones)
Overall i would only recommend the Ramen Soup Noodles and Takoyaki

I can’t think of anywhere that has divided the palates of Hobart town as greatly as KOMA. Some rave about it proclaiming the stock to be nectar from the gods while others compare it to insipid dish water. I’m one of the ones who loves it, I’ve been a number of times and each bowl has surpassed the last, but should probably throw in a disclaimer that it obviously isn’t to all tastes.

Food court standard - Disappointed with the ramen, especially if they are hand made. I ordered chicken ramen $13. The ramen was underwhelming with only 3 strips of chicken. However, the broth was full of flavour (a bit salty for me). They now have sushi.

I've been here twice, that's probably enough for me.
