Review Mejico - Sydney

Nicko Hancock
We come to Mejico every time we're in Sydney. It is simply stunning Mexican food paired with outstanding tequila. On the food: everything is great. Ask your waiter for their recommendations if you can't choose. On the tequila: if you're not sure how to order, use their cute wooden slider to select your preferred taste, intensity, and price point, and they'll bring you the one that suits you. It's a great system and a lot of fun.

It's been a while since I came back here. The restaurant continues to have a good vibe, lively music and food was cooked well. The spot where we sat though, was difficult to get staff to attend to us. However, food did come promptly. The smoked trout and king fish ceviche was cooked well and generous portions of the guacamole. Would have preferred the table side preparation like they used to though, but I understand why they no longer have it. Overall not bad for a casual catch up =)

Noisy, welcoming modern space offering a small but wonderful selection of Mexican food done really well. The table smashed guacamole is great and very popular. The sangria selection is too easy to drink and goes so well with the food. The staff are attentive, friendly and happy to interact with customers, especially whilst smashing those avocados.

My friends and I had a fantastic experience having dinner and drinks. Santiago was a fantastic waiter and gave use some fab recommendations. We especially enjoyed playing the Mejico drinks game too! Highly recommend Mejico Pitt St to anyone who is after a cheeky Mex dinner šŸ‘ŒšŸ¼

We have been couple of times to this restaurant and has been a great experience. The small dishes are great and are good portions good for sharing especially halloumi and beef tacos. The cocktails are also great along with mains. The portions of mains are not very huge but good for one person. Overall it has great food & ambience. Highly recommend this place.

Beautiful food and atmosphere, had a great waiter who went above and beyond with dietary requirements. Set menu and a couple of cocktails came to $120 P/h. Food was very nice.

I had a great time in this restaurant. Food was very delicious, atmosphere was authentic and there is a good choice of drinks (especially various types of tequila and tequila based cocktails). There is an interesting tequila recommendation tool. The jalapeƱos margaritas were enjoyable too. Only thing is that portions are a bit small, thus pricey.

We came for a simple anniversary and were greeted upon arrival with a complimentary champagne to celebrate. If you can, make a booking to come in at a quiet time before the dinner rush as it is a very cozy & comfortable. Plus the friendly staff have a chance to chat to you a bit more :)

Great Mexican Cuisine Experience!

From avocado pieces, lemon, chilli, red onion etc. it gets all mushed together in front of you, creating the perfect dip for plantain chips!ā£
ā£
If you love corn like I do, definitely try their corn ribs! The sauce and cheese it comes with compliments the dish so well šŸ˜Š. ā£
ā£
In their spicy fried chicken, the watermelon acts as a good cooling agent for šŸ”„šŸ”„. Overall, great Mexican flavours and creativity in the mix šŸ˜.

They put themselves on a delivery app with discounts and then don't accept the orders... suspicious. So I used their preferred one and the full prices were reasonable and the food was fairly good. Good flavours but pretty mild, plus messy flour tortillas. Nothing special but nice.

The Halloumi cheese is excellent: the tangy lime and agave nectar balances nicely with the briny cheese, and the potato bravas has just the right amount of smokey paprika with a touch of heat

Mejico on Pitt St holds a very special spot in my heart. Itā€™s where Nirry and I actually went on our first date, and weā€™v been countless times for family birthdays, double dates and most recently for my best friends birthday. Itā€™s become a restaurant I take people I am newly acquainted with, or for fun night out - particularly around Cinco De Mayo where they have all sorts of specials for Tequila and Margaritaā€™s.

I dined at Mejico CBD on a weekday night. My table for 2 was ready as soon as I arrived and we were seated straight away (walk-in, no reservation at that time).
What i enjoyed the most was the pork tacos (2 tacos per plate) - it's quite a small portion however really delicious ! My next visit will def try the corn lollipop and margarita cheesecake.

I came here for my anniversary and was amazed by the quality of the food. We got the Feed me set and the watermelon and lime margaritas. Our personal favourites were the haloumi, kingfish, guac and the beef tacos. All dishes were high quality and rich in flavour. The service was also attentive and welcoming. Would definitely come back!

Had soft shell crab tacos. Sauce was too sour and crabs were fried too long(literally can taste the burntness). Had to force myself to finish the meal as I walked into restaurant to have my first meal of the day. Asked staff if they have nachos but surprisingly no!! And the response is yeaa this place is inspired by mexican but not really authentic mexican. Ambience and service is great! Would not go back again if I want real authentic mexican food

Loved this place. Service was friendly and extra accommodating. We went at 4pm Sunday and the vibe was perfect, not packed so it was nice a mellow and not loud, just perfect.

JalapeƱo Poppers: 5/5 stars. Favorite dish of the night! Sooooo yum! Cheese had amazing flavor and premium tasting. 2 pieces were super spicy and the other 2 were medium spicy, so it just varies as they r jalapeƱos. These came out hot, fried, crunchy batter, juicy, just perfect. Came with a tasty creamy dip. I suggest ordering watermelon salad with this dish to mellow out the spice. This dish usually comes with three pieces, but server asked if we wanted an extra piece ($5) since we were sharing amongst two people, so we ended up ordering 4 pieces for this dish, happily. Iā€™m gonna come back to this restaurant just to eat this dish again :-) Portion size: I suggest ordering two pieces per person.

Watermelon Salad: 4/5 stars. Fresh and juicy. Liked it especially cuz it tamed the spiciness of the JalapeƱo Popper dish and complimented it well. flavors r very mild. The only thing is, I wish it had more mint leaves. I would order again. Portion size: good for one person.

Fresh Guacamole with Plantain chips: 5/5 stars. Im used to eating guacamole with tortilla chips and was very doubtful to try the plantain chips, but was pleasantly shocked that the plantain chips tasted better than the typical tortilla chips. Yummmm. The plantain gave it more depth and flavor, uniqueness, it had a slight crunch and slight softness, and was the star of this dish. I highly recommend! Now Iā€™m only gonna want plantain chips when having guacamole heehee. This dish needed an extra pinch of salt, so after I added this, I thought it was perfect. Itā€™s a fun dish to order cuz they make it table side. Portion size was plenty for two people to share.

Beef steak tacos: (3/5) average tasting, nothing special. Probably wonā€™t order again. Needs a sauce or something to give it more flavor/juice. On the plus side, they gave a good amount of steak pieces and I liked how the steak was lean since I hate fat. One order comes with two soft tacos. I think it was $14. Least favorite dish of the night. Portion size: for one person.

I thought about ordering churros for dessert but was full since I also had a large coffee prior to coming here. Server lady was nice to offer a half portion of churros since I said I was full. I told her next time for sure. Was loving the good accommodating service here :-)

General portion sizes: small. I see it like a tapas size type place.

Price: itā€™s kinda pricey for the small sizes, but worth it! I like quality food and good service, so the price is justified.

Restrooms: great, clean, located inside of restaurant.

Vibe: great! we were a couple and came at 4pm (before the crowd) so the place was nice and quiet/mellow, but still had a lively feel to it. I did not need booking at this hour. Decor is hip and nice. Loved it. We sat in the middle of the restaurant since we felt the back of the restaurant was too isolated and back area didnā€™t have nice decor. If u make a booking then ask for the front/middle of restaurant for a more open and nicer decor/vibe.

Conclusion: food , vibe, and service exceeded our expectations. Will come back for sure! looking forward to trying their other dishes (like the shared meat dish and desserts) and also to have their jalapeƱo poppers again yummmm

Request for the Chef: would love to see authentic handmade beef tamales on your menu one day. I canā€™t find tamales in Sydney and itā€™s my fav Mexican dish so am hoping u will add this dish to your menu in the future, please :-)
Kathy
Food was great. Servers were very friendly. Canā€™t complain as I thoroughly enjoyed everything.
Asides from the jalepenos poppers which we really enjoyed, we were a bit underwhelmed by the rest of the menu. The guacamole and plantain was quite bland, and the salsa and corn chips we got was too sweet. Service was ok though.
Eat Play Love Travel
At this colourful city restaurant on Pitt Street, youā€™ll find a modern twist on Mexican food, and a ridiculous amount of tequila and tacos. Mejico has been around since 2013 and still pulls a healthy crowd, which means you know the market-to-table menu is good.

Kick things off with some guacamole made fresh at your table, along with a serve of corn lollipops and mezcal-flamed halloumi, before moving onto an assortment of tacos, ceviche and charred meats. For dessert, it would be abominable not to get the churros. Thereā€™s also a reasonably priced $59pp classic feed me menu or $75pp deluxe version if you canā€™t be arsed making up your own mind.Ā

To drink, thereā€™s cocktails, wines, sangria and a confronting 200+ tequila menu. Do yourself a favour and choose a tequila flight or play spin the tequila wheel (itā€™s a real thing).
Zahra On Zomato
The happy hour/ lunch specials here are awesome! Great for a quick dine in. Their salmon tacos were perfect and only $2 on a taco Tuesday. Nachos were filling as friend couldn't finish them.

The food is delicious. Everything was very tasty. It was like a modern Mexican place, very trendy and busy. You should book. However, the portions were extremely small. I left there not feeling full. The fried chicken was really good, however it was just chicken. They really needed to add a little salad with it, to complement the chicken.
Sweet And Sour Fork
Iā€™ve always nursed a soft spot for Jalapeno Poppers ($16, 3pcs), and these definitely hit the spot. Hiding under the super crunchy coating, each chilli was stuffed with an oozy, salty, and creamy three-cheese mix. But the real hero was the accompanying chipotle mayo, which had a deep smokiness, and a welcome tanginess to cut through the richness and the spice. I ended up slathering this on pretty much everything we ordered, and it was never a bad decision.

Always our favorite every time we visit Sydney. In-house freshly made Guacamole and chips you must try! My favorite Mexican experience so far!

Banquet was so yummy, great service who made sure to take care of our dietary requirements. And absolutely lovely lively atmosphere at night.

Decent food, especially the favourites but terrible, terrible service.

Waiters do not notice patrons, 20-30 minutes between each dish, silly mistakes like not giving people utensils.
Eunifoodie
My favourite Mexican experience so far! The service, ambience and food were all amazing. We got the classic feed me and was served with a large variety of dishes. The highlights were definitely the corn lollipops and watermelon salad. I found the chicken dish a bit dry, but everything else was delicious.

A mod-Oz take on Mexican food. Everything on the table was vegetarian tonight as I had dinner with a vegan colleague. Lovely food and I didnā€™t even miss the meat! The jalapeƱo poppers, filled with three types of cheese were the only things on the table that had dairy. The most amazing thing on the table? Iā€™d have to vote for the guacamole, freshly made at the table and served with plantain chips. #yum
Friendly, efficient service, even though the place was packed!
.
.
#dinner #eatingout #smallplates #foodpics #travelfoodie #mexicanfood #modernaustralianfood #sydney #sydneyeats #avocado #guacamole #plantain #kabocha #jalepaeno #ceviche #ricebowl #meatless

Came here for my partnerā€™s birthday. We got the feed me option and enjoyed everything that was served up. Great espresso martini and loved loved loved the red sangria. The place had a great ambience. We had a great night of eating and drinking.

Great atmosphere for large groups; noisy and lively. There was about 18 of us and we got the banquet, the serving size was pretty decent. It was almost a plate serving every 3 people. I really enjoyed the halloumi and honey, blackberry salsa with doritos and corn on the cob. The drinks however was average, they have a good range of cocktails and mocktails but taste wise was average.

Came here for a meal for friend's birthday. We pre-booked the '10-course Feed Me meal $75pp' and we both were super-full--There were a lot of food!!Ā
This was the first time I had Mexican food in Sydney. The food was fresh, great atmosphere, properly prepared and a great value for the price. I had too much tacos....Pork belly taco was really nice! yum yum~~
Bw_betman
A great place to go especially when youā€™re stuck for ideas. Lovely atmosphere and friendly service. The guacamole and ceviche never disappoint
Kellanderson002
Had high expectations after many visits to Mejico Miranda. The food here is not as good, possibly trying too hard. The staff were really good and gave great service. Will try Indu and Kid Kyoto soon.
Karen Zou
The service is quite friendly. Nice atmosphere even during lunch time! The taco is dynamic! Love the pork belly taco and cocktails! Will definitely go back again!

Superb Mexican food, with a modern twist. Great meal, after a night at the Brandenburg Orchestra. Excellent Mexican dishes, with very helpful and pleasant staff. A wonderful margarita, too. Would definitely recommend and will visit again when in sydney.

Never have I tried banana chips with guac before it was put down in front of me at MĆ©jico. Would totes do it again! They bring all the components of guacamole deconstructed to your table and make it in front of you. All the aroma of fresh lime and coriander just makes you eager to eat the guacamole. I even ordered a vegetarian open taco which came with grilled cauliflower florets, marinated chipotle and adobo and moilee sauce, topped with crunchy granola.
The Dear Luncher
The Dear Luncher wobbled into Sydney after drinking heaps in the Qantas Lounge and needed somewhere to keep the buzz alive. A mere short stroll from the hotel was this place, Mejico. The first thing they said upon walking in was that there was a special on margaritas - $10. ā€œSign me upā€, said The Dear Luncher, ā€œand donā€™t spare the tequilaā€™. Off to a great start, but what about the food here?
Ā
Dining alone can sometimes be a good thing, but it does mean that for a venue like this your selections are a bit limited as the menu seems geared more towards sharing. With so many good choices on Mejicoā€™s menu it was hard work narrowing it down to one entrĆ©e and one main. The entrĆ©e ordered was the Lamb barbacoa empanadas with some glorious chimichurri on the side. These lamb parcels were fantastic. Right up there with the best ever experienced. Strands of fresh, fragrant lamb within golden-brown casing. A pleasure to eat. Indeed, the last morsel of the final empanada was left aside to finish after the main, such were the enjoyment levels.
Ā
The main selected was the charred black onyx beef with sweet onion puree, charred corn and dragoncello salsa. This was gorgeous. Each slither of beef was tremendous. Dragoncello salsa sounds like something theyā€™d serve up in a Games of Thrones feast doesnā€™t it? Doubt they have any onyx beef cooked to this level of sophistication at Kingā€™s Landing though, probably just mutton and spit-roasted beasts.
Ā
If The Dear Luncher had to recommend just one or two (accessible, reasonably priced) places to eat in Sydney, Mejico would be one of them.
Tummy Buddy
Decided to give Mejico a try after reading all the great reviews. The restaurant has a stylish decor and nice ambience, however the food was very average. The best dish was the guacamole which is essentially just avocado and chips. The corn lollipops had a weird unusual flavor that we couldnā€™t really figure out. The salmon taco didnā€™t really taste fresh and the rest of the dishes werenā€™t that flavourful. Good service but unfortunately the food didnā€™t live up to its expectations!
Theeconomicfoodie
I dined here on a Wednesday night with a friend. We had a booking and were seated immediately at a proper table. For starters, we ordered the guacamole (made at the table, served with plaintain chips and that was absolutely delicious), the haloumi and empanadas. Unfortunately we didnt receive either of these dishes and ended up with something we didn't order. We tried to clarify what we had ordered but the dish wasn't changed and we were charged for the dish that we didn't actually want but ate anyway. For mains, we had the meat from the grill and a salad. The meat was a tad dry. The salad was refreshing and light but wouldn't be my first choice of salad next time. For dessert we had the churros which were piping hot and delicious. Plenty of chocolate and caramel on the side. Overall I was bit let down by my experience at Mejico as a few of my friends had recommended it.

Iā€™m quite picky when it comes to Mexican food.
Itā€™s hard to find authentic in Sydney !
I canā€™t give this place 5 stars but they do deserve 4 for the ambience and because their creations were good in flavour.
I enjoyed the salsas and I over ate tacos :)

The price is a bit high but the location is great : CBD
, right in the centre of the action.

Friendly service too !
Howtosnacc
Small serving sizes but some of the food offerings are worth. The salmon sticks were a wonderful delight in presentation and surprisingly good in taste. The tiger milk dish is not the best - pictured
Hangrylittlelisa
Absolutely scrumptious 10-course Feed Me meal $75pp and we also tried the vegan menu too. Great atmosphere, strong margaritas, absolutely delicious food!! Starting with roasted halloumi, cheese stuffed jalapenos, peach salsa, scallop ceviche, bbq corn. Mains of tacos and bbq chicken, dessert of tipsy trifle, fried banana and cheesecake. So much food we couldnt finish!

Really nice (upmarket) Mexican restaurant. Good food, but small portions (for the price). Hand made (at the table) guacamole is really nice with plantain chips. Scallop ceviche was very small. Pork belly taco was really nice. Corn was too expensive for 3 small cobs. Haloumi was $15 for 3 small slices. Food was good, but was expensive.

This is a okay spot for Mexican food in the city. I loved the guacamole and corn lollipops. The pork belly tacos were okay but the chicken tacos were a bit dry. There is suitable seating for larger groups but the overall restaurant is quite loud so makes talking rather difficult.
Tanya
Came here with a group of friends and this restaurant was bustling and upbeat. Ambience was really lovely and itā€™s a nice restaurant to have a chat with a group. We ordered the classic banquet which came to $59pp. Overall, the food was ok - some dishes were nice while others were just ok to eat. Whether or not this is actual authentic Mexican food, I canā€™t really say. Iā€™d say itā€™s got a much more modern twist thatā€™s for sure. Their margaritas are really yummy though, Iā€™d recommend ordering one of these to go with the meal - itā€™s very complementary to the food. For the price you pay,
Iā€™d have to give this place a 3 star. Food was ok but wasnā€™t amazing and Iā€™ve definitely had better Mexican elsewhere.

Mejico does somethingā€™s really well and fails by a leapfrog in others.
The location is excellent and so is the decor and ambiance.
The hostess at the door is chirpy and friendly. But this is where it goes down hill. The server forgot half our order and we had to enquire thrice before they could place the missing dishes.
Sadly the apology felt half baked and insincere. The food was insipid and lacked any real flavour.
None of the 7 dishes we ordered cross the half way line. And after repeated complaints the half asleep manager decided to ask if there was any suggestions!!

Would be surely heading across the street to another restaurant when I am in the mood for some mexican.
Give Mejico a miss..

I came here for my friends birthday, staff were friendly and accomodating! Everyone loved the drinks and food here! I would recommend the pork belly taco + watermelon
salad! The only thing I would criticise is the price, a bit pricey for what is being serve but regardless for was delicious!!

Fancy Mexican place in the CBD so a bit expensive but and less quantity but the cauliflower tacos were delicious.

Lovely interiors and friendly staff.
Brunonono...
After how many years this place is still going strong and truthfully, call us novices but we really canā€™t point to any other Mexican restaurant that has survived the test of time like Mejico - kudos!

That being said maybe the allure has died down and honestly compared to our first time here maybe two-three years ago, itā€™s still good but just not wow!

You really canā€™t go wrong with the fresh made guacamole and the palanta chips. Itā€™s yes so simple but somehow it just doesnā€™t taste quite that same when you make it at home and honestly thatā€™s something we always appreciate.

Other than that, just go straight for the shared mains. Yes tacos and poke bowls are good but you can get them anywhere - nothing turns a frown around like a giant plate of food.

We had the rubbed brisket and genuinely itā€™s smokey, fatty, succulent and just melt in the mouth goodness. Does the sides of simple veges drag it down - yes but who cares itā€™s a lot of food and just throw it up on your IG...itā€™s what you want to do and you know itā€™s what people want to see :)

Vibe and cocktails were great, but some of the food was not eatable. The salmon taco felt like someone emptied a tin of salmon from woolies on a stale pita. Would go back for drinks but wouldnā€™t pay for food there again

I had great meal Mejico with a friend. We were trying to work out where to go for dinner and a drink when I spotted Mejico across the road. I had a great meal there some six months so we decided to give it a go.

Even at 6pm, the place was packed! We were able to get a table but were asked if we could finish by 7.15pm. We ordered quickly - a guacamole, what looked like burrito, a fried chicken dish, a fried haloumi dish and a peculiar sounding squash dish that we decided to try.

The guacamole cane quickly. Itā€™s actually made at the table just like in Mexico City and is served with plantain chips. It was excellent. One of the best I have had in a restaurant. The burrito was good, fried chicken was tasty and the haloumi excellent. The squash dish which had appeared a little peculiar sure was - it was actually a half butternut pumpkin that had been stuffed with a mix of various things. It was the weakest dish.

Great food, great service, reasonable prices. I tossed up between a 4 and a 5 but as the service was just outstanding, I have gone with a 5.

I love this place - will be back soon!

My favourite Mexican restaurant in Sydney! Mejico brings a modern vibe to Mexican culture. Ordered the guacamole and was taken back that it was made right in front of us. Would recommend the pork belly and smoked brisket tacos as it was our favourite. Mejico is the fine dining of Mexican food.
Phfat
Food was average; service was very slow. We ordered:
- heirloom tomato ceviche: not good. I expected beautiful tomatoes but they were just normal tomatoes with a spicy aioli type sauce on top... not lovely fresh produce like I expected
- tuna tostadas: could only taste onion and corn chip, it did not showcase the flavour of the tuna at all. The tuba was minced up and I just couldn't taste it
- squid tacos: they were nice but not amazing
- brisket tacos: nice but not amazing
- pork shoulder: yummy because it came with a puffy bread and chili dipping sauce but it again was not special, the meat was very shredded. It would have cost peanuts for them to make this and it cost a fair bit, but it is fairly simple to cook yourself!
Service was extremely slow unfortunately, I guess they were understaffed but this happens every time I come here. It took 20-30 minutes to get a glass of wine and I had to remind them I had even ordered it. Trying to order food is another story, it's hard to make this a special night coming here. I think I give up on finding amazing Mexican food in sydney! Won't be returning
Bella Pytka
Had a good experience here recently. Between two we ordered the Tuna Tostadas ($16), the Guacamole ($15), the Corn Lollipops ($15) and the Salpicao Chicken ($26) alongside a margarita each. The staff were friendly, the food was at the standard expected and there is a vibrant atmosphere.
FoodLuva
Margaritaā€™s - both the signature and classic are delicious.
We sampled a few soft tacos but by far the standout is the beef brisket tacos, so good.
The pork is pretty good as well, as is the salmon.
Really good service and ambience, we will definitely come back.

One of my favourite places to go for Mexican food! Theyā€™ve got an amazing range of cocktails to select from too! The cocktail that I ordered even had a glow stick in it as decor! Very creative! We tried all the different tacos on the menu but the fried squid one was my favourite! The corn lollipops are a must as well! Overall, all the dishes we ordered were great and we left mejico feeling extremely satisfied.

The food was quite good, not as spectacular as some of the reviews I've heard but very tasty. The guacamole is great restaurant theatre, portion sizing may be on the small side for some but I was happy with it. The service however was a mess, hence my 3 rating. It was scattered, inconsistent, incompetent and at in one case incredibly rude. I will not be going back for that reason. We seemed to have one waitperson to begin with and then this changed mid delivery with orders confused. We waited 20 minutes for a drink and about half way through the meal I very politely asked for toothpick, as innocent as that may seem this is where things went even further south. I asked four times over the next 30 minutes. After the first time the woman on the front desk was passing so I asked her. She almost rolled her eye's and said she'd 'do something about it'??? She then proceeded to glare at me when I went to the toilets and still no toothpick? After the forth ask I got some toothpicks, I thought it was extraordinary but I was not angry or upset. At the end of the meal when asked for the bill the woman from the font desk showed up with the card machine and asked rudely if I enjoyed the meal like she wanted a fight. I said it was fine and thank you, she was angry? At this time another batch of toothpicks arrived! LOL. She threw the transaction recipient down and waked off.Ā This woman should not be on the front desk and was either in an appalling mood or is in the wrong industry.
Eat Eat Eat
Ordered quite a lot to share between two; the guacamole , three types of tacos , the chicken from the grill, corn lollipops and the tuna tostadas.
Although we tried some of their signature items, there was really no wow factor and thought it was quite average.
The guacamole that was supposed to be made ā€˜tablesideā€™ was given to us already made which was quite disappointing

Gratuity was charged to the bill; not sure if it was because we went on a Sunday? But didnā€™t see it on the menu stating so otherwise

The service was excellent though and the restaurant was lively and great for a dinner with friends or a fun date.

Better than mamasita in Melbourne! Must orders: The cochinita pibil that melts in your mouth and grilled haloumi - perfect mixture of savory and sweet.šŸ¤¤šŸ¤¤šŸ¤¤

Came with no expectations for the food quality/service but definitely left with disappointment.
Once seated by the Restaurant Host, we waited 5 min before I had to wave down the waiter to be served (to clarify allergies etc). Then we waited 35 min for our food despite me emailing the day before saying we wanted the ā€œFeed Meā€ option so itā€™s not like our slow decision making slowed down the order(?).
I had also asked for Corn Lollipops to be substituted with JalapeƱo Poppers however due to evident lack of communication between waiters, we were still served with the Corn Lollipops (35min later). By this point I was sick of waiting already so I just left it.
Food could also be a bit hotter (temperature-wise).
Overall food was delicious, but service was VERY slow, especially for lunch hour in the CBD.
Sorry but I wonā€™t be coming back.
You guys need to get some tips from the Chin Chin team.

We found Mejico on Zomato and were glad we made a visit! We loved the lively vibe, and the food was delicious- great for sharing too!Ā Get the Corn lollipops- they're not just cute, they taste amazing as well!

Came here for a work party on a Saturday night. The place was packed when we came in but we were seated quickly and had someone run through the menu with us. Drinks took a little long to come out but overall service was prompt. Food was very overrated in my opinion. We ordered the following: wild mushroom ceviche, signature tuna tostadas, grilled pork tacos, corn lollipops, potato bravos, salpicaoĀ chicken, chipotle pumpkin, guacamole, churros and salted caramel tacos. The only stand out dish was the guacamole and churros. It was nice that they made the guacamole in front of us. I definitely wouldn't recommend the chipotle pumpkin, It was one of the dishes that was left barely touched.

Visiting from Melbourne, I booked this place for my friend and I. It was funky, fresh and the food was delicioso! We kept it light, getting the guacamole, wild mushroom ceviche, corn lollipops and cauliflower tacos. With some wine and cocktails to match, we had a fabulous time! Thanks Mejico.

Staff were extremely friendly and welcoming from the beginning to end of our meal. Upon entry we were greeted by staff and efficiently sorted out my reservation. The lively and energetic atmosphere was refreshing after a long and dreary day. Staff briefly introduced us to the concise menu during the middle of service.

Guacamole must the most renowned Mexican condiment, and they make it fresh on the spot for theatrical and freshness reasons. However, it lacked seasonings to really make it pop. The following dish was the corn lollipops, that looked far different to what I imagined, had a delicious rich sauce but the rawness of the corn ruined the dish. Then the pate was concealed under a banana chilli facade, it was surprisingly well made as I mistaken it for the latter. The smooth centre and flavour really hit the mark. We concluded the meal with a delicious one bite cheesecake and an odd combination of ice cream with jalapeƱo granita. The combination was surprisingly wonderful but the ratio between ice cream and granita was off by a mile. The overly savoury granita wasnā€™t very pleasant by itself. At this price point, it was a worthwhile experience.
We had a great lunch here. Service is great, as is the atmosphere. The food is a cleaner simpler take on Mexican, highlights were the brisket tacos and tuna tostadas. The strawberry spritz is an awesome drink as well.

Such a great atmosphere - came here with friends on a Friday night and it was busy, the music was pumping and the staff seemed to be having fun which is always a good sign.Ā As such we enjoyed ourselves.Ā Oh and the food was fresh, tasty, and just the best Mexican I have had in Sydney I think.Ā Well worth a visit.Ā I can't believe I haven't been here before - I'll definitely be back.

Food was good - portions were small. Felt as though everything was overpriced. They made the guacamole at your table which seemed a bit unnecessary. Service was very friendly and attentive. When you make a reservation it suggests a time to leave which I thought was funny but I guess they want to seat more people. Overall, itā€™s a nice little place to go grab a drink.
Hungry Tum
Wow!! Amazing food, service and an awesome vibe - the place was packed on a Tuesday night. I joined the Foodieguru_770 for one of the best meals I've had in ages. The Tuna tartare tostadas and pulled brisket soft tacos were the highlight. Both were juicy and packed with flavour. The pepper stuffed with pork rilette was also delicious. Overall reasonably priced as well.

Came here with the Hungry Tum what a great dinner. The food was ravishing, tasty and mouthwatering. It was best meal I have had of 2018. Well done and no wonder this place is happening the restaurant was full in a Thursday night! Well done

We love this place located in the CBD, great food to share with your friends as we ordered many little share plates that filled us up! The guacamole is a MUST try this is the best starter to get you going! We ordered all the tacos off the menu and were very happy with our meal!

We went to Mejico this evening for a friendā€™s birthday, where we pre booked five days in advance the $59pp set menu for 14 people.

While some of the dishes were good, the portions were small and the food came out incredibly slow.

I donā€™t understand why it took 40 minutes after our mains for the ā€˜dessertā€™ to come out? Note: ā€˜dessertā€™ was one measly churro per person and some cream on a cracker which they claimed to be ā€˜cheesecakeā€™. Shouldnā€™t have taken 40 minutes to make and bring out.

Also note that there was very little protein served throughout the whole menu while they brought out bucketloads of potatoes to fill us up with. Definitely not worth $59 pp.

Considering we pre booked this set menu days in advance, you would think the kitchen would plan ahead and have our dishes brought out in a timely manner. Instead, we ended up dining for 3 hours in total, where 1 hour was spent eating and the other 2 hours waiting.

Iā€™m sure not all their customers receive this poor service, so maybe this is a one off. But for our first time dining here, the whole experience was extremely disappointing for all of us.

We were also required to pay a mandatory 10% gratuity fee which I donā€™t think we should pay considering the poor service. The only service we really received was the waiter asking us if we wanted to buy more drinks while we waited 30-40mins for our food to come out.

I would personally reconsider if you planned on coming here for the set menu or a large group.

One of the best Mexican places I have been to in Sydney and the best guacamole I ever had. Came across this place while we were taking a stroll in CBD. Loved their ambience and service. Must have is their banana chips with guacamole. Made amazing cocktails too. In all a perfect place with good food but a bit on the expensive side.
Food - 4/5
Ambience - 4/5
Value for Money - 3/5
Service - 4/5

Service was ok - efficient but not overly warm. The food was hit and miss. Sometimes the flavours were good enough (tacos) to take your mind off how small the portion sizes were but other times the food was just "meh", especially for the price. I've been and tried, it's been ticked off my list so there's no incentive left for me to return. Most likely won't head back for a while.

$80 menu was very mediocre and $50 unlimited drinks were not served to our table intentionally to try make money, won't be returning or recommending to anyone.

Delicious food, great service and atmosphere! We ordered the guacamole (they even make it on your table), crispy squid tacos, sticky glazed lamb ribs, corn lollipops and the cochinita pibil (pork shoulder wrapped in banana leaf)
Each dish was yummy though I rate the crispy squid tacos and the corn lollipops the most!!!

After a few boozey drinks with one of my gal friends; it was approaching 9pm and we hadn't eaten anything. We started walking and managed to get a table at Mejico. I hadn't been here for years so I was happy to check it out.Ā . The place is buzzing on this Friday night and almost full. My gal pal and I have been sharing work stories all night and we've been laughing and having a good time along with the drinks.Ā We get seats up a raised window area so we are sitting on stools.Ā We have a sneaky cola with vodka with dinner.

Superbly flavourful food!!
Nice small portions for you to try a ton of options on the menu.
Extremely friendly staff (credit sissy)
Awesome vegetarian spread (hard to find in aus)

Must order : guac, tacos and churros.

The best modern take on Mexican food that Iā€™ve come across. My wife and I were blown away by the flavours of everything we ordered. Great service too! Highly recommend!
Love At First Bite
Mejico is a Mexican fusion restaurant located in the heart of the Sydney CBD. It is based on a ā€˜market to tableā€™ concept to ensure ingredient as as fresh as possible. We came here early one Friday night for dinner in a group of three and will share that experience here. To start off, I ordered a Mojito as I was feeling a sweeter cocktail. This really hit the spot, it was refreshing and the perfect way to start a Friday night!

Mejico was very disappointing last night. The service was bad, staff did not clear the empty plates but brought more food which made the experience on an already small table very cramped. Plus the people next to us were so close we could not have a conversation. The tortilla on tacos was burnt, and the sauce on the lamb ribs was sickly sweet. Watermelon salad was small but refreshing, guacamole was pre made, discoloured and watery.
Sarah
I was so excited to try the famous ā€œsmash at your tableā€ guac experience and then so deflated when I saw the chef scooping a pre-made mixture from a tub. The eye fillet was melt-in-your-mouth and definitely the best dish we ordered.
I'm Hangry
You have to, absolute have to, get the guacamole. I realise that guacamole is a simple dish that we can all make at home (yes, even me), but at Mejico, they make it at your table in the mortar and pestle and it is served with plantain chips. Those plantain chips are so crispy and salty, that they are just the right way to kick off the meal.

...

Mejico do a great job with the larger plates too ā€“ both with meat and seafood. The sticky squid ink octopus is always reliably tender and served with a great spicy chorizo. I do wish the squid ink was used more in the dish though than just a smear on the bottom of the plate. The best surprise of the night for me though was the Cochinita Pibil, the pork shoulder served wrapped in a banana leaf. The meat must be slow cooked because it is melt in your mouth! It comes served with something called ā€˜gorditasā€™ that I had not heard of (just shows my ignorance of Mexican cuisine) which is a chewy fried pastry, pickled onion, yoghurt and the most amazing hot sauce which has a great kick.

...

If you havenā€™t been to Mejico though, you definitely should try it out sometime. Theyā€™re almost always packed for dinners, so best to book beforehand.

imhangry.net/2017/12/10/mejico-the-best-mexican-in-sydney/

Mejico is an energetic and vibrant Mexican bistro on Pitt Street. The owner, Sam Prince, once proclaimed this to be the ā€œone of the best Mexican restaurants in the world.ā€ The arrogance and ignorance is astounding because I am sure he did not visit Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Chile or even Singapore and Hong Kong Kong for Latina inspiration. Food is average at best.

There are two dining concepts within the vast restaurant. First, there is a exuberant bar area at the front with colourful seats and lights. Second, there is a high-ceiling hall towards he back of the restaurant.

I ordered a couple of their signature dishes. First, the corn lollipops, topped with chipotle mayo, queso fresco, coconut and pop corn, were artificial and buttery. While the corn tasted great with the sauces, the sauces were somehow not prepared fresh and it tasted exactly like those snacks from an elaborated cinema outlet. It would be much better if they did their sauces at the back of the kitchen.

Second, the jalapeƱo poppers, some jalapeƱos roasted and filled with feta and herbs and served with chipotle mayo, had a similar problem. For the prices, the mayo was artificial and unacceptable. The crumbed jalapeƱos were also excessively fried and borderline burnt.

Wouldn't recommend. It's overpriced unauthentic Mexican food. The glazed lamb could've been better, the meat itself was soft but the glaze was overly sweet and I couldn't finish it. The corn lollipops, $15 for one whole corn covered in chipotle mayo with chilli powder and popcorn. The corn and cactus salsa and guacamole was the only things that were worth my money but still lacked seasoning. Also ordered a white sangria, very water down. In that jug it probably had 300ml of wine. Tasted like grapefruit infused water. Food was under seasoned. No aircon at all.. Overall very disappointed.

Came here with a decent sized group for my birthday. The restaurant staff were quite accommodating with booking and changes. We had a set menu at $59 per person, but was quite disappointed at the portion sizes for the amount of money paid. In saying that the food was amazing and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Drinks from the bar did take a while to come, so be prepared to wait.

Their ceviche fish wasn't fresh enough. Most of the dishes were only seasoned ok, but lacking quite a bit of punch or heat. Serving sizes dismally small. Their signature dishes: the guacamole was literally the waiters serving an avocado straight from its skin into a mortar and adding some chopped onions and a mixture of herbs and pounding it in front of your. The other signature dishes was literally grilled corn on a cob with a spicy aioli type dressing. All gimicky but lacked true creativity in flavour and lacking in actual substance. Pretty average meal overall for the prices charged... can't understand the consistent high ratings, feels more like a tourist trap. Won't be back and won't recommend.

Utterly delicious! Enter this Mexican restaurant and be delighted with the journey your tastebuds will go on. Located in Pitt Street, it was quite busy when we came here for lunch and it was quite noisy.

The service was very friendly and the waiter serving us advised that the grill items didnā€™t come with any sides so some of the shared bites may come in handy.

We had Adobo Lamb Rump and it was so tender. Melt in the mouth lamb and the chimichurri was excellent. The other grill item we had was Achiote Chicken. Flavoursome chicken with an excellent rub on the outside. Cooked well and was still tender. The accompanying Patatas Bravas had a slight spiciness with chipotle aioli but not too bad. Nice crunch to the potatoes.

Overall glad to have visited this restaurant.

Amazing atmosphere! It is always buzzing with fellow mexican food lovers. Its a shame the food portions were so small and a little pricey but the flavours were on point :)

Not necessarily traditional Mexican food but doesnā€™t make it any less delicious.

I love restaurants that do ā€œfeed meā€ options. Takes th stress out of deciding and just lets you enjoy the food and you can get a big variety even with only two people, no minimum of 4+ for banquets. In saying that though, this would be a great place for larger groups.

The biggest let down was the main which while delicious took a long time after everything else to come out.

Heard about this place from a friend. We orders 'feed me' which is the assorted dishes for the three of us. Portion is not big, food wise looks better on plate than it taste. Quite expensive for the three of us to have spent 249... I have to say I loved the white sangria! That was something really special.

Decided to come here to try something different and this place definitely did not disappoint. All the dishes were unique and full of wonderful flavour.

We ordered one of each of the 3 taco flavours in the menu and they were all equally delicious. The plantain chips and dip were light and very refreshing. Our main was the chipotle barramundi and again it was light and full of flavour. All the dishes were extremely satisfying!

Customer service was also on point. Our waiter was very helpful with recommending dishes to us and checked-in on us every now and then. It was a bit pricey for the small portions they had but it was still enjoyable.

Mejico

We were in Sydney for the weekend, which started with a lunch at Mejico. It started off as any other lunch would start. Greeted at the door and shown to our seat. We wanted a seafood lunch, so we ordered one of everything from their seafood offering. "Something to drink?" Of course. We were surrounded by tequila. However, we wanted wine. Our waitress was more than helpful in assisting us with our choice. Paired with the seafood absolutely amazingly!

Service was great. Food was great. It was fresh, full of flavour and unexpected.

We picked up the last of the Melbournians that were joining us for the weekend. We were raving about the meal we'd just had. Fast forward a nap, a bar and first dinner - we find ourselves at Mejico for 'second dinner'. Did I mention it was an indulgent weekend?

We ordered the same items off the menu, but we paired the food with what felt like one of each cocktail the menu. The atmosphere was completely different. Loud, energetic and just full of tables of, for a lack of a better word, happy people.

Our waitress from lunch was there, she didn't recognise us until the third or fourth time she passed us. After her initial freak out, our conversation felt like it continued from lunch. If anyone knew how to make guests feel at home, it would be her!

The food was just as good as we had hours earlier. The cocktails were mostly good, however, there was one standout. Guadalajaran. We couldn't get enough of the roasted pineapple. It was just the right amount of caramel sweetness. Not overpowering, but you knew it was there.

As the guests thinned out, we were still happily ordering drinks. We had a milk chocolate shot - it was interesting when tried at lunch, but blown away with how it was the second time. Not sure if it was a change of bartender from afternoon to evening, but the shot was amazing. It was silky smooth, thick but not so thick you couldn't shot it, but still thick enough to get your finger into the shot glass to clean up the very last drop.

We finished Mejico off with Churros and Margarita Cheesecake. Our waitress, Tanya and manager, Sissi could not have made our dining experience any better. They even gave us directions to an awesome cocktail bar so we could continue our night out. But that's another entirely different review!

Tanya, Sissi and the team at Mejico - Thank you, not once, but twice for making our weekend in Sydney memorable. We'll definitely be back when we're next in town.

Mejico is a seriously fun place to dine with a large group or even for an intimate dinner! Got the last table for two on an extremely busy Thursday night. Walked through this vast place, to the back of restaurant so had a chance to see what others were consuming and what looked good! Shared the most amazing guacamole that came in parts and was expertly constructed at our table. So fresh and perfectly paired with the plantain chips. Also ordered the heirloom tomato ceviche which was full of flavour and jalapeƱos, and a serve of salmon tacos! In total, a wonderfully buzzy experience and even got a park just outside! Go the guac! Best in Sydney!

Whether you're Vegetarian or not, this place does not disappoint! When I was vegetarian at one point, I was a tad worried about my options as I was there for a birthday, but I was surprised by the number of options I had and the guacamole was just full of flavour! I came back when I was able to eat meat again and I definitely knew it would not disappoint! I definitely recommend this place and props to them for maintaining their great service when the restaurant is always busy!
