Review Kindness Vegan - Sydney

Dharini Raghavachar
It is one of the best vegan restaurants in Sydney. They have a very simple usual Thai menu; however, each dish is burst of flavour. The curries are so good and fresh. A must try. Feels like a family owned business, and all of them are very lovely, always happy to get you anything. They also have a small instant curry for cooking at home. We bought the massaman curry and very excited to try it at home.

Kindess Vegan are about aligning their morals and beliefs with the food they serve. Asian food done deliciously and all without the use of animal products. Serving sizes were generous, everything tasted fresh and it was full of so much flavour! Now I know burgers aren’t exactly Asian cuisine, but I am so glad this item was on the menu. The Summer Burger. This had crumbed vegan prawns, grilled pineapple and a homemade vegan seafood sauce. I can’t believe how incredible this was. The look, the texture and the taste of the ‘prawn’ was spot on. Paired perfectly with the pineapple and definitely gave off a summer vibe! If you’re a fan of mushrooms, the Too MuchRoom is one to order. Fried enoki and king oyster mushrooms, coated with Thai seasoning, roasted sesame & shallots and served with a maple yuzu sauce. Crispy and delicious! Moving onto the main dishes, we ordered the Malaysian Laksa, Eggplant Kabayaki with Fried Soft Tofu and Japanese Katsu Don. The laksa was so fragrant and rich in flavour. It had a little kick to it which I loved. Noodles were cooked perfectly and overall, an absolutely delicious soup! The Eggplant Kabayaki is a vegan version of the classic Unagi Don. The marinated eggplant was grilled beautifully and I loved the addition of the glazed tofu too. The Katsu Don was made with a vegan pork cutlet which was super crispy on the outside. I honestly forgot this was vegan for a second! No surprise, they nailed this dish too Whether you’re a vegan or just looking to switch it up every now and then, this is a place to visit!

Great tasty vegan food. So yummy. So great to be know all the options are vegan. It’s just hard to decide which one, but the photos and accompanying item numbers helps a lot! I hope the kindness cafe will become THE vegan cafe in Sydney in the future!

I couldn’t believe just how creative all the vegan dishes were presented and how delicious they tasted! Totally blown away by the creativity and sheer talent of the staff to produce this gorgeous menu!

The roti was really small and still the curry given was not even enough for the mini roti. The red curry was not as flavourful and fragrant. Somehow it lacked enough spice. And we were shocked to be told that there was no mango for mango sticky rice when it is the mango season. (we were pretty early at the restaurant) Disappointing.

Lovely place! Great food and service. I don't really like the location but I suppose we can't have it all! LOL!!! (Picture of eggplant don bowl.)

Usually people only leave reviews when they’ve had a negative experience but I can’t even express how lovely my experience was here. So accommodating to all of our requests without any sense of rudeness. Genuinely living up to the name of kindness. The food was very affordable and worth every cent. Even though it was busy they were able to still meet every need of our table. An absolute breath of fresh air with this service.

Phenomenal food and service, great value and presentation. (I think I may be buying these dishes for my new place!) The seawood tofu slices in my noodle dish were like savoury vegan sausage, and every dish is garnished like little jewels. Intimate patio dining in the evening, and there is a steady stream of delivery people leaving with bags of deliciousness throughout the night. Fun people watching on this quiet nook in the Darlinghurst neighbourhood. There are lots of wonderful Thai places in SYD, but this is my 'Karma' favourite. Try some ginger lemon tea or BYO!

Love this place! Delicious food even better service! The owners are the nicest people you will meet! Best Roti we've ever had! 5 star menu! Would definitely go back again! Would recommend to anyone who loves vegan food! #veganfoodheaven

Absolutely amazing food. The flavours were on point and the portion size was great. Highly recommended if you want that Thai cuisine fix.

Absolutely Fabulous ! Without a doubt THE Best food I've had in a restaurant in Sydney. . . The food, vege/vegan, was fresh, clean and perfectly cooked. The service was also fantastic and even though they were one short in the kitchen, we didn't have to wait long for our meals. I HIGHLY recommend Kindness Cafe. Just a note though - they don't cater for raw vegan - the salad was really small and mostly lettuce. You'd probably need to take along a few extras to add !

Can't believe I waited 2 months to visit! The food is wow. Legit thai and the tofu "fish" cakes are to die for. No missing out as a vegan here!! The owner is super lovely and so passionate about her business. Can't wait to visit again

Had dinner with family here tonight, every dish we had was absolutely delicious. 10/10 for service. Could not fault a thing. Highly recommend

Amazing food and service! This would have to be one of the best vegetarian/ vegan restaurants I've been to. The quality of the produce was fantastic. Even if you're not a vegetarian/vegan, give it a go!
Michelle Gravolin
I loved the Kindness Cafe. Great crisp fresh Thai food. Almost entirely vegan (egg and cow milk available but all sauces vegan). Would be more popular with vegan community if dropped the non-vegan options but lovely food and people.

Food: Amazing flavoursome vegan food in Sydney, it is totally out of this world!!! :) AAA+++ They are very happy to alter any menu ingredients to suit your taste buds. Drinks: It is not licensed but you can bring you own. Atmosphere: You haven't got the harbour views, but who needs that stuff when you are enjoying the superb fresh home made flavours & colours of the food that you are eating! ;) No animal products!!! Staff: AAA - Very social staff that go out of their way to please you. The couple running the restaurant have only been open for 9 weeks, so a huge achievement for these guys to have something this special running in a hidden location! :) Decor: Modern, compact & nice. Even supplied chairs for the handbags. It was quite warm with the outside heaters going as well. Cleanliness: Hospital Grade feel, you could eat your food of the tables & chairs, it was that clean!!! :) Bathroom: It is a shared bathroom betweeen all the restaurants, so it wasn't that great & it can't be their fault.

We found this amazing cafe via the Happy Cow app! The name of this recipe is a true representation of the beautiful staff, we were made to feel so welcome, the owner and the staff are like these gorgeous rays of sunshine, oozing JOY and KINDNESS, I love that!!! My hubby, daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed the meal. We left with full hearts AND full bellies. So much gratitude for this cafe and the sweet staff. We will be back and will be recommending it to everybody!

Most delicious Thai food I've had in ages. A vast range of dishes and everyone of them were packed full of flavour. Hopefully the next time I am in Sydney I can return for another meal.

Every dish we ordered was delicious fresh and tasty, service was really warm and friendly. Located in a really nice setting and charging very reasonable prices, this place has a winning formula - love it!

I went on Sunday with a vegan friend and as a non-vegan, I was open to the experience. I ordered the Massaman curry and without a doubt it was the BEST I have ever devoured. The flavours were magnificent and the range of steamed veggies - PerfectO!!!! And the customer service definitely met expectations. Well done!! This is a true hidden gem in Darlinghurst and the location is easy access from Museum Station. I will definitely return and it could even become my weekend go to.

What a wonderful restaurant in the heart of Darlinghurst. The food was fresh, vibrant and flavourful. The staff were friendly and our lunch arrived quickly. It's great to see a vegetarian restaurant avoiding mock meats and focussing on vegetables. Were it not for the optional egg you can have plonked on your meal, the entire menu would be vegan. I look forward to returning soon and exploring more of what they have to offer.

Kindness Cafe has been on my list of veg restaurants to try for a while now and it did not disappoint! I decided to try the fried tofu as an entree and a massaman curry for the main. Both were flavoursome and delicious! I absolutely loved the seaweed wrapped tofu in the massaman curry - I was skeptical at first but was pleasantly surprised as to how tasty it was. The restaurant staff all go out of their way to make sure your experience is enjoyable. I will definitely be back.

me and my omnivore boyfriend came here for our last dinner in Sydney, safe to say you guys absolutely blew our minds. we ordered the the corn fritters and roti bread, which were both amazing, the taste and texture went so well together that my boyfriend who usually dislikes veg food said that was probably the best roti bread he has ever had. We then had the green curry and mushroom salad, and he said that the seaweed tofu in the curry tasted like real chicken and wouldn't even be able to tell the difference. The mushroom salad was so fresh and the flavour was absolutely beautiful, with a different array of mushrooms and literally tasted like a party in our mouths!

The service was also the highlight of this place, everyone including the waitresses and the chefs always put on a bright smile that added to the happy vibes in this place. We love the concept at this restaurant and will be letting all of our Melbourne friends know about this place and tell them that they must come and visit when they go to Sydney!

only thing we wished is that you guys gave bigger portion size for the roti bread because it was absolutely amazing and we couldn't get enough!(however the serving size was fine we just have big appetites haha)

The serves were generous, we had the Thai garden and a delicious curry recommended by the staff, they were super friendly. Thank you so much

Great food! Super tasty, had the tofu with peanut sauce - oh my the sauce was incredible! Also had the Pad see Eww and woooow that was super yummy! However I only give 4 stars not 5 because the service was quite slow (friendly don’t get me wrong) but slow! Food took too long, but lucky me and my husband weren’t in a hurry!

This place is kind of small and there's not a lot of seating available. The food however is great and so are the staff, they are so friendly.

Food is just delicious!
Every dish is really well presented and you can tell it's been prepared with care.
Serves are generous and there's a wide range of options to choose.
Very nice and friendly staff.

Such a delicious and fresh restaurant. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Ideally situated next to other restaurants in a large courtyard which created a beautiful atmosphere.

The starters are cheap and really tasty the tom yum soup is full of flavour and is perfect without meat.

The corn fritters are not amazing but are nice for the price

I adore this place! Second time here and once again, the service is top-notch! The staff are super polite, always smiling and offered boxes for my friend and myself for our bags. The water was quick to come and had little lemon slices in it.

Kindness Cafe was empty amongst the other restaurants on the block when my friend and I arrived, but it quickly became full. However, it never felt like we were burdens or that we were being hurried along. The menu is extensive and mostly all vegetarian/vegan. I love that there are so many vegetables offered with the dishes.

My favourite restaurant ! The freshest, healthiest and wholesome ingredients and every meal bursts with flavour!! such great value for money & beautiful, friendly team who just want to provide the customer with an honest, healthy & good quality meal!

Excellent - really good vegetarian Thai food, + thoughtful kindly service - also no long wait for meal. Highly recommended. (I don't know why these reviews need to be at least 140 characters - life is short.)

When you go to a cafe called the Kindness cafe, you’re expecting a lovely place and really positive atmosphere. That’s exactly what you get! Quite possibly the nicest lady ever, Dusadee the owner takes us to our table and gives us a rundown of the concept. She wanted to deliver beautiful and delicious Thai food that was organic and doesn’t harm any animals in the process. That said, it is a vegetarian / vegan restaurant. Normally wouldn’t be our scene, being protein lovers, but we were completely satisfied.

This restaurant offers up fresh, delicious and filling food with a Thai inspired cuisine. All dishes are vegan and vegetarian with plenty of gluten free options. The location is ideal tucked in between other buzzing restaurants in a courtyard in Darlinghurst.

Choosing starters was difficult as there are many tempting options on the menu. We went for the rice paper rolls and the corn fritters. The rice paper rolls were filled with mushrooms, tofu, carrot and cucumber and served with two delicious sauces - peanut and sweet chili. The corn fritters had four servings and despite being fried were perfectly light and combined well with the sweet chili dipping sauce.

For mains we had peanut stir fry and a green curry both with organic tofu. The vegetables in both these dishes were extremely fresh and despite there being no meat they were very filling and great value at less than $20 a dish. The green curry had the perfect amount of spice and the sauce was delicious with rice.

I usually don't order desserts at Asian restaurants but it's a must at kindness cafe. The dessert roti is served with maple, honey and cinnamon sugar and is great for sharing. My absolute favorite was the black sticky rice with warm coconut milk - superb!

Grab yourself some friends and a bottle of wine and head to Kindness cafe for some deliciously fresh Thai food.

Urgh...dear oh dear, there're not enough kind words I can use to describe this restaurant. It's definitely a hidden gem and it should get more awareness than it is now!

We're a vegan couple so we made our effort to go give it a try.

Staff 5/5: I believe they're the owners of the cafe , super friendly and full of kindness as the restaurant name.

Food 5/5: We ordered three entrees, one main, a bowl of rice, and a mango sticky rice dessert. Yes, we were stuffed afterwards but every single dish were amazing!

Settings & Atmosphere 4.5/5: the missing 0.5 is because our table was too small for the amount of food we ordered lol.

One thing I'd like to highlight is the thoughtfulness, giving you a warm plate to serve? It melts my heart too!

Coming from an Asian country the food is a bit more to the sweet side to me, but my boyfriend enjoyed a lot. Definitely coming back!

Recommend dish: corn fritters!

What a meal to start off our first night in Australia. Coming to the restaurant, we had no idea it was vegan but everyone was very eager to try it. Our waitress was lovely. The corn fritters were really crispy. The mains we had each had their own unique flavours. It really was an amazing meal.

Kindness cafe is tucked away on the quiet streets of Darlinghurst and serves delicious vegan Thai food. We were greeted by staff upon our arrival and immediately given water and cutlery. We ordered the Pad See Ew, Massaman curry, Stir Fried vegetables with cashews and two Thai Iced Teas. Food was prepared quickly and presented nicely. All three dishes were delicious and very filling and the Thai Ice Tea was refreshing despite being a bit too sweet. Overall, it was a great experience and staff were very accommodating and friendly!

Loved this place. Delicious, wholesome food with decent portions at a good price. Lovely setting on a warm Sydney night. Staff could not be friendlier or more obliging. Service was impeccable. Can't wait to return to try some more of this mouthwatering menu. Vegans and vegetarians will be in heaven and am sure meat eaters will not even miss the absence of meat.

Food here is great. This is the best thai place in Sydney I have been to. And Sydney has a thousand thai places!! This place is fresh, no animal products used, great service and the food isn't laced with huge amounts of MSG. There are so many veggies on your plate and a good variety of veggies as well. The tom yum was my favourite. They put a lot of different types of mushrooms in it which really made it for me. And the flavour of the tom yum was amazing. We also got noodles and another curry dish and rice paper wraps which where really clean and healthy. I wouldn't go to any other thai place after trying this one.

Kindness Café is indeed very very kind. Not only are they veg/vegan, the staff are so ridiculously sweet and lovely! From the moment we stepped in, to the last moment of our stay, just all round smiles and welcomes.

The drinks came out first and they were delish! I did prefer the thai iced tea with (soy) milk, just slightly, but the one with lemon was more refreshing so it comes down to personal preference. Either way, the tea was strong so probably best not to have so much at night if you’re sensitive to caffeine. I am. 😔

The roti was a good start as the curry sauce was delightful, however I felt the mixed sides plate was as a whole pretty average. We got a combo of spring roll, corn fritter, curry puff, and tofu cake. They were all pretty similar in how good they tasted, and I felt the spring roll was the best.

I had to give the massaman curry a go while I was there, because most non-veg Thai places will only make it with beef. I’m not quite sure I totally agree with the pineapple being there, but other than that it was tasty. Very light in flavour, it’s not a dish to stand out, but a good curry to have with a stronger dish. Which we luckily did have so they complemented each other quite well.

The chilli basil stir fry had strong, punchy flavours with a good variety of vegies. It was the right level of spiciness, and also made for good use of the milk tea. Would recommend this dish.

The dessert of sticky rice was quite interesting, because it was unlike any other sticky rice dessert I have had. It wasn’t particularly sweet, in fact I kept getting confused through multiple bites, because I thought I was tasting saltiness. Nonetheless, it rounded off the meal well and was the final step for us to leave happy and full.

As expected, the vegetables used are all very fresh and delicious, and you’ll be welcomed by lovely staff. Kindness Café is definitely one to try out for many other reasons aside from taste. Although you’ll also be experiencing a great tasting meal as well!

The food is full of flavour and the price is an amazing value. The restaurant is small but in a good way, it means the experience is more personal. The people who run it are genuinely warm, friendly people. Wish I didn't live so far otherwise I would visit again. Roti is 10/10.

This place is a little gem! The service was over & beyond & the food was divine! I am a vegetarian & it was so refreshing to find a place that is not only vegetarian but also organic! The food was fresh, tasty & filling! Next time I'm in Sydney I'll be back for sure! Thanks kindness cafe team!🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

Chanced upon this place when the one next door was overbooked. Great service, very friendly and personal. The food was super fresh and tasty. Great option for GF, vegetarian and vegan. We'll be back.

I'm far from a vegetarian or vegan, but I loved the food here. My favourites were the Roti with curry sauce as a starter, and the masaman curry as a main. The service is among the best with a very personal feel. This is no ordinary Thai restaurant. Great food, great service, great location. We will be back!

Had dinner at the Kindness Cafe last week with a group of friends. The owner was so lovely, and all the staff were friendly. We sampled a variety of dishes between us - everything sounds so good! Top dishes were the tofu cake and roti to start, and loved the red curry :) Have already planned the next visit :)

Beautiful food and fantastic service, BYO and genuinely friendly and kind staff. Add to this pocket-friendly prices and a great location ("sandwitched" between Phamish and Lucio in Republic 2 Courtyard) and you got yourself a winner. We loved the curry sauce accompanying the roti, the fresh corn kernels in the corn fritters (no can opener in sight!) and the spicy tofu cakes; the mushroom salad and the black sticky rice dessert are also winners. Will we return? hell yes!
