Review Yuki's At The Quay - Sydney

We found this business by mistake on a Saturday and we’re the only table seated in the restaurant. The dishes we ordered were quite delectable though we did not find full value in the pricing of the dishes and cocktails when comparing to other experiences at other Japanese restaurants. The table service and cleanliness was great also.

Had a lovely time here. The staff were friendly and not pushy. Their sake reserve list is a great selection ranging from the full bodied to delicate flavours and scents. Their sashimi were delectable, daily special of the Wagyu was delicious and presentations of their food can't be justified with my camera skills. Their view of the Opera house is also very wonderful. It's a great find and we would definitely come back for more.

Beautiful food and a very calming atmosphere. We really enjoyed our dinner here. We had 3 different sushi rolls, the miso eggplant and some edamame. The quality is great and we’re looking forward to returning and trying some other dishes. Even for Sydneysiders, it’s spectacular to enjoy the opera house views from your dinner table.

Went to Yuki's for dinner on a weekday. Had to follow signage to the lifts to take us up to the restaurant. We were welcomed on entry to our seats. The restaurant is on the fancier side and quite intimate (given not that much indoor seating) - also great views of the harbour and Opera house! We ordered a flounder (special for that day), assorted sashimi and edamame. The fish was cooked 2 ways (fried and in a soupy sauce with veggies). The presentation was great especially the fried fish fillets in the fried shell of the fish. Fish was a little overcooked and unfortunately quite dry. The fried fish shell was a nice touch and completely edible (bones and all!). The soup part of the dish was quite ordinary. Definitely nothing special. Probably wouldn't order this dish again if we were to revisit. The assorted sashimi was so delicious and so amazingly fresh! A good mixture of salmon, tuna, kingfish, snapper and scallop. All super fresh! Would definitely recommend. Staff were very polite and attentive - drinks were always refreshed without asking.

Beware! Unlike other fine dining restaurants in Sydney, their waiters, including the manager, won't stop you from over-ordered while they don't offer food takeaway! Yep, they expect you to read every word from their menu. When you ask for takeaway boxes, the manager will show you what they printed on the menu and claim it's due to COVID and prevent food poisoning. If that was the case, why can't they kindly remind customers not to order too much food as their dishes are serving in big portions? (rather than hard-selling their daily specials to us, who walk-in after 8pm... One Star for the opera house view and one star for average Japanese food and presentation. Btw. there's minimum spending $50 per head, incl children. So, if you ain't a big eat and don't want to waste food, order more drinks and fewer dishes :)

Booked the place to celebrate my son’s birthday with family and friends. As always, big groups are always difficult to handle but Yuki’s did more than I anticipated. From the time of booking, collecting pre-orders and communicating both party’s expectations. Food was great and everyone enjoyed the night. As for the view? Amazing backdrop of the Sydney Opera House. What else can we ask for? Will definitely recommend and come back for more.

We use to live in Okinawa Japan for 3 years and have been in search for fresh tasty Sashimi. We were told by our hotel concierge that this is the place to check out. It did not disappoint!! The service, food, Japanese whiskey and view were 10/10! Arigato gozaimasu! Shu and staff!

Positively surprised by this place: a fine dining restaurant where all tables have Opera House views and the food is good, but the prices are not completely outrageous! Yukis offers a solid Mod Oz mix of Japanese classics and Western food with Japanese touches, and the 6-course degustation for $90 is a steal given the location, you can easily add another zero to the price if you go to Quay next door. Two thumbs up for a special night out!

Had dinner at yuki’s and had such a great experience! Service was amazing, I think our waiter’s name was Mariko!! She was really good in helping us navigate through the menu. Popcorn shrimp, miso eggplant, grilled eel & wagyu steak were so yummy!! I would of expected the miso to be a bit caramelised though. The deluxe assorted sushi and sashimi was a bit underwhelming but was satisfactory.

Overall a positive experience!

Can’t imagine enjoy the gorgeous seafood at home during the special period. Much thanks to the boss and all the staff.

The food was delicious and the only thing I could fault were the sides of the wagyu because it is minimal. Other than that the food itself was amazing.

We had 50% so it was well worth it’s otherwise for all this it would’ve been over $300.

We were in The Rocks and looking for a quick bite when we discovered Yuki’s on one of the food apps (providing a 50% discount). The restaurant, located on the first floor of the Overseas Passenger Terminal can be accessed via the lifts. With indoor and al fresco dining, it offers sweeping views across Sydney Harbour, taking in the Opera House across to the city skyline. The menu is priced at a premium but this isn’t any ordinary location, and the food was of great quality and beautifully presented.

Well. $130 for the chefs menu. Tiny portions. Slow service. People served at different times so the table didn’t have the same course at the same time $17 for a bourbon &coke!!!! This place might have the view but that’s all. Your local Japanese can serve you the same food to the same quality for half the price and you’ll have change for a tip.
Avoid this place. Given its location there is Michelin star degustations available for the same cost within 50 meters of here.

The worst service we’ve ever had and especially on Valentine’s Day, and the food was so poor. Waited for 35 minutes only got 1 course, then we canceled the rest courses and left...such an unforgettable night
Karen
This is ridiculous. Been waiting for 55mins come with this little thing and more waiting? I mean what’s the point i order first while I made a booking? And it’s all same course menu for Valentine’s Day ? Isn’t they already prepare for dinner?? And I can’t even just leave because already pay $100 in case we cancel. Just nothing to say, no more again!

Breathtaking views of the Opera House.

Yukis at the Quay is located on the top level of the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay serving modern and traditional Japanese cuisine.

We came here on the weekend for an early dinner, to get away from the sea of people because of the Chocolate Festival. They were closed for lunch but stayed open to accommodate us which was nice of them. We chose to sit outside as the sun was still out and you could see the Opera House and boats and ferries pass by.

To drink, I ordered the Tanuki Tea (Japanese shochu, Bacardi, lemon ice tea, fresh lemon juice and soda)and ordered a LLB. My cocktail was okay, just tasted like a lemon ice tea with alcohol. The LLB was nice but I prefer bitters (brown colour) in my LLB, looked like post mix as it was pink.

To share, we ordered the Premium Wagyu Beef Sirloin Tataki with ponzu dressing and garlic chips, Karaage chicken served with a trio of sauces (wasabi mayonnaise, chilli mayonnaise and homemade dressing), Soy Butter Calamari served with calamari ink puree, and the Deluxe Assorted Sushi with 7 pieces of sushi and 10 pieces sashimi.

The beef tataki was okay, didn't taste fresh to me. It didn't look appetising but the ponzu sauce was nice. It had too much garlic for my liking.

The karaage chicken was yummy! It was lightly battered. It had moist chunks of chicken. On its own was yummy but even better with the chilli mayonnaise. It was spicy but good and was creamy. The other sauces were nice as well.

I was a bit confused about the calamari as it read on the menu ~ stir fried, as the dish came out battered. Regardless what the menu said, this is one dish to order as well. It was crispy, soft and next level yummy when dipped in the sweet and salty ink sauce. I'm not a fan of ink sauce/pasta as it looks wrong but it was good. Shame that it was a small portion.

I was looking forward to the sashimi and sushi but was underwhelmed. The sashimi was soft but not melt in your mouth. The sushi was okay, its good that they didnt put a lot of wasabi as nothing worse than the pungent taste go up your nose.

As we were finishing our meal, ? the manager suggested a dessert but I was turned off when he said 'chocolate cake and ice cream'. He didn't 'sell' me the dessert, it sounded like something I could either whip up myself or buy from the supermarket. Besides, I was already 'sugared up' from the Chocolate Festival.

The waitress was pleasant.

Verdict: Must try the karaage chicken and soy butter calamari and you get breathtaking views with it. Don't think we will be back.

Very fusion modern Japanese. We had the vivid Sydney (in June) set menu. Very generous for super appetiser. Friendly staff, best view in Sydney for Japanese dining!

A very lovely restaurant situated in a quiet location with the Opera House in view. I especially loved the sashimi boat providing fresh seafood. The staff were lovely and delivered superb quality dishes. The paper hotpot was an interesting display. Overall, I've had a positive experience and would highly recommend this restaurant if you're after Japanese fine dining.

Really great authentic Japanese food with good service. We celebrated a birthday here and took along a cake, they were very good about this - brought it out with candles (we had forgotten to bring any) and served the pieces nicely for each of us with a special decoration for the birthday girl. Also took a photo for us with a instant camera.

service is pretty good and a really nice view. service was a bit rushed but that was because we didn't book and had to vacate (they told us beforehand so its ok). the paper hot pot for some reason amazed me heaps, the taste was decent but the spectacle itself was for some odd reason oddly satisfying. not a fan of the "steak", a bit tough imo the lobster is slightly better due to the sauce. definitely recommend for a romantic evening

Reserved a dinner booking for my mums birthday. Ordered a vivid course ($90) Really good service, the staff was very nice. Food was excellent, especially the green tea mousse! It had really good atmosphere, perfect for celebration events. One thing id comment is it was a bit too much food for us since we don't eat much but overall very good experience!

Great quality food, we came here without making prior booking. Our friends made a prior booking however as we were extras we had to wait an extra 15-20mins for a table to be setup next to them which all they did was drag another table which we could of done instead of waiting. Service aside, the sashimi was fresh and besides the bad start we would return again but this time definitely with a booking.

Just came back from a weekend in Sydney and wanted top notch Japanese and we were not dissapointed. Firstly when you get to the elevator go up the stairs and walk to the end - much easier to find this amazing place.

We had a great seat with full views of the Opera House and the staff were AMAZING. Started with chilli edamame which was a huge bowl with heaps of chilli and garlic. The kaaraage was a huge serve with special home made sauces. The Teriyaki Chicken was full of flavour. Steamed veges and very healthy feeling. Also had the 300g fillet steak which was the best steak in Japanese we've had. As it was an anniversary they brought out a complimentary dessert too. Was such a lovely gesture we didn't expect. With a bottle of Moet and a few plum wines this was a fantastic dining experience. Just wish they had more french champagne to offer in terms of brands but this was such a good experience in a top location. Can't wait to come back in a few weeks! Mia
The Truth Hurts
Not cheap!! More you traditional Japanese restaurant can't understand why they are sooooooooo quite as the flavours and truly very good! Little hard communicating with the staff but that's cool had a very nice time :)

Don't get fooled by the relaxed and simple restaurant decor - Yuki's is situated in a prime CBD position next to Quay Restaurant with stunning uninterrupted views of the Opera House. This has become a go-to for us over the years when there is a special occasion and we can't agree on anywhere else to go! Yuki's offers an a-la-carte menu as well as number of different degustation options. However, s ince it was a special occasion, we opted for the Chef's Winter Course. First up, we had the sashimi carpaccio with Japanese vinaigrette dressing. The dressing complements the freshness of the sashimi well and does not overpower the delicate freshness of the sashimi. A really refreshing start to the meal. The sides of salmon roe, yuzu jelly and radish also gives the dash a little something extra. Sashimi carpaccio with Japanese vinaigrette dre

On a special night out in the city, we landed ourselves right by the water at Yukis at the Quay, a quiet, tastefully decorated Japanese restaurant looking out across to the Sydney Opera House. We were greeted promptly to be seated at a "candlelit" table (with candlelit in quotes because they were battery-run candles), and handed menus, by who seemed to be the owner of the restaurant. Hmm, what to eat at a good Japanese restaurant? Between the two of us, we got a Harbour Course (65), which included several entrees, a main, and a dessert, which happened to be Creme Brulee that night (yipee!), and the Roast Duck Breast with Hacho Miso Sauce (37). The entrees were all good, especially the rolled asparagus with wagyu beef. The tempura was fried well [and we had some fun eating the noodle fan] and the creme brulee was perfect! Not too sweet, nor too rich. But, I must say, the duck dish was the most impressive, both with presentation and flavor. Mmm, mmm, the duck itself was incredibly

The cuisine is no less impressive. Chef Nori Tsukatani, who boasts an impressive career which has seen him travel and develop his understanding of Japanese and European gastronomy, brings a unique fusion of cultures to the menu. As a result every dish at Yuki’s, while quintessentially Japanese in flavour, is unmistakably European in presentation.
Beyond Bourke Street
The final course was the dessert. Today, it featured a creme brulee, a pot of white sesame blanc-manger, an almond tuile cookie, and fresh fruit with whipped cream. The surface of the creme brulee cracked with the tap of the spoon, and the custard beneath was smooth and fragrant with vanilla. All components were polished off in no time at all!

If you find yourself wanting an escape from the daily mania of the office, then this is perfect for you – Yuki’s offers a delightful combination of gourmet Japanese cuisine and a gorgeous harbour view.

The dining room is a mix of whispering couples, a Japanese family and a few businessmen dining on their lonesome. I've got my own hot date tonight, and we quickly get cosy with a few glasses of wine...

Majestic views with a special touch. We decided to have dinner here despite the mixed reviews and we were very glad we did. The food and service were excellent and the views over the Opera House were incredible. The staff asked what we were celebrating and I told them about our recent move from Perth to Sydney and they then prepared a very special dessert which had my lovely wife misty eyed. Well done guys and thanks for making the night so special.

Terrible - charging $1.50 for hot water and $4 for tea that can't be refilled. This is not a place where the locals go , which they advertise on their webpage.
what a rip-off $1.50 for hot water and charging $4 per person for a cup of tea (which they charge you again to refill).

Better going to Masuya or even Sake nearby for cheaper, better food.

Sadly Disappointing. I was so looking forward to dinner here after reading the reviews and having a peak at the menu. Unfortunately the food was really disappointing. I had teriyaki salmon which was really dry and overcooked and my friend had the chicken which was basically just fat. For a restaurant that isn't cheap I would expect more. I won't be going back.

Perfect no-booking meal on a Friday night!. We felt very lucky to beat the rush on a Friday night and scored a table with no problem... husband had an amazing sushi selection and I had the most wonderful teriyaki salmon with perfectly steamed veg that I ever could have hoped for. Service was so friendly, lovely dinner.

Great View. Great price for the food. You can get a set menu for a really reasonable price, if anything go there for the view. Absolute stunning view of the opera house, it is literally right in front of you. Perfect to bring your date to.

Heaven on the Quay. Yuki's version of Beef Tataki using Wagyu beef was delicious. The flavour of the beef was heaven to the mouth and the palate . Apart from the Tataki the Tuna Sashimi was melt in your mouth and the best i've tasted. The location and view opposite theOpera house is to die for and as an evening dine out venue it is superb. The staff were friendly and unobtrusive and very attentive. For the lovers of Japanese food, Yukis restaurant at Circular Quay is a must try when you next visit Sydney.
A Love Affair With Food
Fine Japanese dining. You turn to look out to the Opera House, whilst being spoilt with the best Japanese cuisine in town. Phenomenal explosions of flavour, stunningly presented, great service and stunning location (when the cruise ships aren't in the way)

Good food, very friendly service, awesome view. Soft shell crab entree was amazing. Nice ambiance. Very happy

Classic Japanese service. Found me a table when trendy spot up the rocks could not.

Great view from the 4th of the International Passenger Terminal across to the Opera House. Fantastic food. Great service. Relaxed atmosphere. A must do place.

I was away for work n thought to drop in for a good cheap Japanese meal. To my surprise this is fine dining with style overlooking the opera house. Great ambience in this place with soft jazz music in the bacground and candles on the table. This is reflected in the prices. Needless to say the food was excellent also. I would definitely recommend this place but to those who would like a special night out.
