I have been attending Una’s for over 40years, I’m also in hospitality, have worked in hatted restaurants where an entree is the size of a fifty cent piece and the main course not much bigger and this tiny amount of sustenance is followed by a hefty price tag in excess of $80+ for food alone.
So when I walk into Una’s and I’m told where to sit, asked how my meal was, I comply, I say thank you and I am thankful because the food is good, I am getting value for my dollar and in over forty years of visiting at least once a month, most of the time more frequently I’ve never been talked to rudely by Management or staff, obviously some of the other people commenting here possibly have another agenda because what they are saying is rubbish
Great food, great service.... continue to come back time and time again.
Highly recommend if you want a decent meal for a decent price with decent service this is the place :)
Visited the place recently e and had an amazing time. The place offers great variety in the food the staff is amazing and the services were really good.
Just what you’d expect for a German schnitzel restaurant. The service and food are efficient and the food is delicious. Can’t go past a pretzel and a schnitzel.
Loved the food. Service was amazing. Apple strudel was on point! Prices are quite reasonable and portion size is amazing. Highly recommended restaurant.
If you're a fan of schnitzels, you'll enjoy eating at Una's cafe 😊 Started with their deep fried camembert and crumbed mushrooms for entrees, and had their schnitzel and pork knuckle for mains. All dishes were really tasty and were delivered in huge portions, despite their simplicity. Ambience was homey, and the servers were attentive. Will come back everytime I'm craving for scrumptious schnitzel 💯
Their Jaeger Schnitzel is sooooo good, and it's so massive you can share between two and then get some good old pie for dessert afterwards so that you don't overeat :D I loved the sauce that came with it and the rosti was really good too. They give you enough sauce unlike some other places! Also you can't miss out on the fried camembert, there's 5 pieces per serving and I wanted it all for myself.
Customer service was friendly and they seemed happy to answer basic questions about the menu. We went about an hour before closing time and they let us in with no hassles, and food arrived quite quickly.
The Jager schnitzel is too good! Una's serve up large sized meals and deliciously cooked schnitzel's! The potato rosti and cabbage complimented my meal perfectly!
Even though the decor is aged and not very impressive, you don't come here for the sites, but rather for the massive servings of tasty food. The schnitzel servings are very generous and are budget friendly priced. I also had the pork knuckle which seemed like a never ending mountain of meat. The knuckle was nice but a bit dry. I would highly recommend to go with one of the schnitzel options (and if you like wash it down with a couple of on-tap Czech beers). If you can't finish your meal (which probably most people can't) grab a takeaway container and enjoy the left-overs for lunch the next day 👍
This place has the infamous chicken schnitzel in Sydney. When I first came into the restaurant it has a homey feeling and family friendly place. The Jager schnitzel is tender and make a perfect combination with the sauce. I would also recommend the pork knuckle as it is perfectly cooked still moist and juicy also packed with delicious flavour.
My husband and I haven't been here since 2014 (he wasn't even my husband back then - we were just shy of our one year dating anniversary!) but this was one of our favourite places to eat at. It was great because I lived in Paddington and we could simply take a walk to get there on date nights. This is a review I wrote on my blog the last time we were there:
"Last night we went out for one of our final meals in this area since we are moving out together (super exciting!) and we'll be about an hour away. So, unfortunately, it won't be likely we will come back very often, if at all.
We took a nice stroll down a street with a chain of restaurants to decide which one to have our final meal at. We ended up at Una's and the food was so good there. We had been here previously and thought it would be a nice place for a send-off! Una's always serves such generous portions at a reasonable price!
What we ordered:
Entrée
• Deep fried Camembert
• Salt & pepper squid. This was on their specials board and not actually on their regular menu
Main Dishes
• Vienna Schnitzel (veal) with rösti & cabbage salad
• Chicken Schnitzel with rösti & cabbage salad
I am a cheese aficionado and I've got to tell you that the deep fried Camembert was phenomenal, it came with cranberry sauce on the side and that worked so well with the Camembert. I would definitely have this dish again! Probably shouldn't have it too often though because it's a delicious, cheesy, battered heart attack. Being a great lover of cheeses, I am going to be biased and tell you that you should have the Camembert over the squid but if you're not that big of a fan of cheese, go for the squid (even though I think the cheese is better). I should mention that the salt and pepper squid was pretty great, too; super soft and not at all chewy with a light and crispy batter!
The Schnitzels were much larger than you'd anticipate (as pictured - they take up almost the entire space on a large plate!) and we would have skipped out on having any entrées but I can never pass over the opportunity to have cheese and Chris is the same with squid/calamari!
After having eaten half of my schnitzel, I could probably have sold the second half as a full schnitzel at any other bar/restaurant. It was crumbed in all the right ways and both the veal and chicken were juicy and tender, just thinking about it makes me wish I had one now! The rösti it came with was superb as well, and the cabbage salad was pretty ordinary but you're not there for the salad. ;)
@The atmosphere was warm, cosy, and homely. Although the space is quite large, it felt like what I imagine a large Austrian family's tiny dining room would be like, with everyone crammed in and almost sitting on top of each other, having a wonderful family meal together.
Food and service were both marvelous, if you're ever in the area and feeling peckish, I highly recommend you pop into Una's for a feed!

A Guide For Your Appetite

WOW, Big Plate, Big Serving and Big on Deliciousness
This restaurant was recommended to us by a work colleague and so my wife and I decided to come here for our date night. Unfortunately this restaurant doesn't take bookings but that's ok because you will definitely be parking about 5 - 10 min walk away so you don't want to book and then be late for your booking.
When we walked in, man it was busy but everyone was happy. If you walk in and there is no table (which do expect it because after 46 years of service, it has grown popular), you will be asked to go upstairs at the bar. Don't worry you don't have to drink and there is tables to sit and wait.
Once we got our table (we were lucky we walked in and a couple were walking out) the waiter took our order. Very quickly the order arrived. Man the servings are terrific. A true hearty German meal. If you are here, you have to try the chicken Schnitzel's they are delicious. Make sure you go with an appetite because you will need it.
It was recommended we try this beverage that they serve at this restaurant... not sure if it is cultural however it was warm wine with some spices in it. I DON'T recommend this. Next time I would much rather just have a beer.
Went after seeing Una's in a top 10 Schnitzels in Sydney, for the money it's definitely up there. Can't make a booking online so it was lucky we got a seat on a Saturday night. Really wholesome place with good service. The value for money is great and food was hearty. Would recommend for like a homely vibe and good meals.
When you are missing Austria, this is the best place to be. The food (and portion sizes) are typically Austrian so bring your appetite with you but the food is always on point. Schnitzels are always good and hard to pass up but try the Goulash and Spätzle, we never get a picture as it's one we dive straight into as it hits the table. Try to save room for the Apple Strudel or Black Forest cake but the reality is just grab one to take away, so worth it.
Una's is a hugely popular institution in Darlinghurst, and the schnitzels are authentic, delicious and HUGE! A great casual place to enjoy a meal and a beer with friendly staff and a relaxed and fun vibe.
Well I have been going to Unas for 20years. We went back today, and it is just the same and just as good now as it was back then.
Great service, great food, massive serves, good beer, great atmosphere. The place was full but they resepcted the social distancing rules. People lined up waiting to get in. What else would one want. Don't ever change Unas, you are loved just the way you are.
Love this German restaurant great value tasty food and affordable
big servings and I love the Rosti my favorites are Cabbage rolls Jaeger Schnitzel and pork knuckle
The staff was very courteous and attentive. I ordered the pork knuckle and the portion is massive. Bring your appetite. I normally like a dessert but not this time. I do wish that they could serve a gluten free chicken schnitzel. Una's please work on it, it's not that hard !
I love Una's Schnitzel. They are humongous. So if you wanted to visit this place make sure you are prepared to eat traditionally size meal. The staff is helpful. They always tried their best to look after us. The quality consistently awesome.
