Review Thievery Chicken & Charcoal - Sydney

Steph Snedden
This place takes your usual dips and share plates to another level. Firstly the portion sizes are actually designed for sharing, and you may even be able to take some home! Secondly the unique flavours they add to traditional plates is next level. If you haven’t been there in a while they have removed the high tables and stools downstairs which makes for a much more comfortable experience. Greats spot for a small group but better for dates or one on one catch ups!

Was in Sydney for 3 days and tried their brunch feast. It was easily the best meal I've had during my trip. The hummus with burnt butter was awesome, the raw yellow fin tuna dish was light and refreshing, even the raw beef dish was nice and goes really well with their warm Lebanese bread. My only complaint was that the portion for their Lebanese Fried Chicken was so small, I mean two strips for two people??? It was great with the black garlic sauce I could eat 6 on my own. The portion of the rest of their dishes were fine I just think two chunks of chicken is a bit disappointing.

Came here for the Mediterranean Yum Cha and was not disappointed! The flavours were interestingly delicious, and there was fun, yet balanced textures throughout the degustation. Cocktails were delicious and pretty potent. Service was amazing and the staff were really friendly and knowledgeable. Ambience of the place was cool. Definitely coming back to try their usual menu!

Another restaurant, another perfect scored. I hadn’t heard much about this place actually. Not sure why. It deserves to be far more we’ll known. The food was absolutely incredible all while being incredibly well priced. Alright, alright.. seems strange, but get the burnt butter hummus. Bruh *drool*. Also, who doesn’t love some LFC.

For a restaurant to absolutely nail a vegetarian banquet - you know you’re onto something good! Moreover, I’m not even vegetarian but was still in love with the dishes presented. Friendly service and cool setting, decent prices as well delicious wine - will definitely come back!

We walked past this place by chance and decided to go in because it looked busy. The food was fantastic. Baba ganoush was next level! And the LFC (Lebanese Fried Chicken) was quite possibly the best chicken I've ever had. Ended with the fig cheesecake. Superb! And to top it off our waitress was down to earth and made sure we had a great night. Definitely recommended.

Went to try the brunch menu with mates - was delicious. Not the standard Nutella pancakes and eggs Benny if that's what you were hoping for but this delicious injection of middle eastern flavours into breakfast.
Alex Zelenjak
Awesome food and service that is out of this world. Great gluten free options and even ensures the banquet was serviced quickly as we had a concert to attend. Highly rated!!!

We visited this place for a Lebanese style yum cha lunch. The highlights for me were the larger dishes designed to share such as the noodles, crispy chicken and shallot pancake. The dishes were overall quite creative and the entrees were alright but I guess I prefer the Chinese style prawn toasts and dumplings. Overall, good restaurant with tasty dishes.

The best thing about Thievery was the burnt butter and paprika hummus - so delicious. The other dishes we tried were quite average. The spices on the haloumi were really overpowering (think it was too much cumin). Waiter was also not the friendliest - told us we must be out by 7:45pm when seating us, even though the restaurant had quite a few empty tables. Also took away our fattoush when there was still some left in the bowl. We felt quite rushed dining here.
Most of the menu seems like Lebanese fusion but I liked that you could just get some fried or grilled chicken and expect it to be great. The LFC wasn't very crispy but had some great flavour and spice in the batter and in the chicken - didn't really need the sauce that came with it. The grilled chicken was tasty and tender (just like the chicken I had in Jordan, don't know about Lebanon) and came with ample pickles and bread. Unfortunately, the toum garlic sauce costs extra and is pretty much compulsory because it's so good, otherwise the prices seem alright for the quality and quantity.

Keep thinking about this meal. Genuinely one of the best things I’ve eaten in the last few years. Every dish we ate was incredible. 5 stars!!

We came here for our friends birthdays and as a large group of 11 we ordered the bottomless brunch menu. My favourite dishes in the set menu was their hummus and the Lebanese fried chicken. The chicken came out on share plates, but worked out 1x piece of chicken each. It was so good 1x piece was not enough to satisfy me.

The team were very helpful with our dietary requirements. As such a large group we had a few allergies and diary intolerant. They offered us alternatives to those individuals and was very nice to see as not many places offer.

There was also the option of bottomless booze ($36pp) or soft drink ($18pp). The good thing about this was any individual could order a drink package, the entire table didn't have to order it as a whole.

Many of y’all know that Julian Cincotta is the genius behind the food at Butter Surry Hills and Parramatta. But. did you guys know that he is also Thievery’s executive chef? Thievery is a. modern interpretation and accumulation of Middle Eastern cuisine and a dash of. some Mediterranean flavours. You can also see influences of Julian’s time in

Wow! This place is amazing!! It’s is Lebanese food with a twist (not a bad twist!). We were sat down stairs which has a dark buzzy atmosphere. We were greeted by a lovely attentive and informative waitress.

We got four dishes which was enough for the two of us. All the dishes were phenomenal, despite some of the ingredients being similar they were all delicious and individual in the textures and flavours. My favourite dish was the roast broccoli and my husbands was the baba ganoush.

It is quite pricey but certainly worth it for the food and atmosphere.
Ms Food Adventurer
Really loved this restaurant’s flavours. The consensus around the table was that the Standout was the baba ghanoush actually over the hummus for us! (Dined last Sep 2017)

Best hummus I have ever eaten. I would eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner all day every day . Also yummy cocktails and wine + good service
Intendingtoburn
Delicious hummus and trendy decor, but please - turn the bloody music down! We would have stayed longer (and ordered more food and drinks) if we hadn't come down with throbbing headaches half-way through the meal.
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
Slotting into a building that looks like it should be condemned, and cleverly making a feature of it, Thievery has a renegade aesthetic. Climbing the rickety staircase up from the packed bar level, you’ll find a likeable room with Arabic graffiti along one wall and magenta light streaming through designer-bombed out holes in the ceiling. This imagery cheekily summons the images of West Asia constantly bombarded onto our television screens. At the same time, the modern, pan-Arabic menu speaks to cultural borrowing and the porous nature of global cuisine. Despite the full restaurant, things get underway very quickly. Friendly wait staff steer us away from hummus and into Baba Ganoush ($14). Here the creamy, smoky eggplant dip is dabbed with sheep’s milk yoghurt, dotted with pine nuts and drizzled with burnt butter, giving it smoky, nutty appeal on flatbread. Dining with a vegetarian, our meal is...

if there are roaches in the bathroom and the bathroom is right next to the kitchen, then is it fair to assume there are roaches roaming around in the kitchen as well? it was gross what I saw and I couldn't finish my meal after that, even though the portions in this place are incredibly small for what you pay.
Tammy
I thought the dips here were just to die for. We had a large group and took up practically the whole upstairs area, and hence why service was understandably probably a bit too slow. The baba ganoush and hummus was so good, we asked for more bread. The mushrooms were tasty, and the Lebanese fried chicken had us wanting more but the portions were too small. We were expecting lamb cutlets to share, but we each got our own plate, so everyone was happy with that. Would definitely return and probably better in smaller groups.
Sarah
I had high hopes for Thievery and it just didn't hit the mark. The food was alright but lacked the flavour punch you get with most middle eastern dishes. Go for the LFC and falafel salad if you're looking for a safe option.

Elegant Lebanese dining (we ate in thanks to UberEATS).

Baba Gabounsh was an eclectic combo of Indian and middle eastern (it has Ghee in it to tantalize the taste buds)

Lebanese Fried Chicken was nice - especially when accompanied with the hot sauce (kinda like the sauces you see at food fairs - extreme heat)! And the Black Garlic Sauce - was something I never had - I would go back just for this!

Potatoes were artfully done.

All in all - a pleasant middle eastern dining experience!

In hindsight this place is pretty good. I say in hindsight, because on the night, the atmosphere of chic coolness and loud music kinda puts you in a daze of unrealistic appreciation.
The flavours are a little experimental so be prepared for that, and for my liking sometimes didn't work.
What is awesome is the fried chicken, but the sauce is a little confusing, kinda didn't really work with it.
The red cabbage salad was my favourite dish.
The octopus was also very good.
The raw beef dish didn't work for me.
The lamb cutlets are fatty as all hell, but very tasty.
Smashed potatoes were pretty good.
The hummus with burnt butter is pretty special.
The rice ice cream though was a miss, the ice cream itself was pretty good, but the crumb was a little too out there for my liking - not sure middle eastern flavours belonged.
But make sure you get a Fizzle Rizzle cocktail, it's so good!
Very good wine selection here as well.
Service is attentive and very friendly.
All in all we had a fun night here.

Omg I just spent ages writing a review and it didn't save so here I go again. Thievery is one of the best meals I've had in a long time. We came here on recommendations from my nephew and his girlfriend. The first thing I noticed about Thievery was that it was dark and cramped downstairs (I find Sydney in general to be cramped anyway), the bar wasn't separate from the seating because there just wasn't enough room. When we were seated upstairs it wasn't too cramped.

We decided to eat the tasting menu. The first dish that came out was the hummus with burnt butter, I loved the richness that the burnt butter added to the hummus. The second dish was the raw beef with something (I couldn't hear the waitress) and dried shallots, the beef was delicious, it was a bit acidic and it went perfectly with the hummus. The next dish was the fried chicken, the coating had some spice and the chicken was tender and beautiful, it came with a tangy sauce. We could've had a whole bucket of the fried chicken. The octopus was the best octopus I've ever had, it was perfectly tender and the sauce that it came with tasted a bit like the ocean. The lamb chops were nicely charred on the outside and pink in the
middle. The red cabbage salad was sweet and tangy and the broccolini was nice and charred (bordering on burnt on the ends). The last 3 dishes came out one by one but we thought it would've been more enjoyable if they came out together.

We spent most of our night next to a table with loud bogans, I couldn't hear what they were saying but apparently they were fighting and calling each other the C word. We had enough of them so we asked to have our desserts downstairs, the staff were very accomodating and even took a bottle of wine off the bill for our troubles. They didn't have to do this because they can't control whoever eats here but it was a nice gesture. We had some kind of meringue for dessert but I couldn't tell you what was in it because I was a bit pissed and I couldn't remember what the waitress said but it was delicious. The ice cream was nice too. The staff at Thievery were very professional and friendly. I would love to come back here next time I'm in Sydney and bring my friends. With Enan Simms-Walker

Didn't realise this restaurant was so popular until I made a booking for a Tuesday and it was packed when we arrived! Delicious, interesting middle eastern food. The dishes were greater than the sum of their parts and I loved the hummus, broccolini and crumpet which sounds strange but is true. Quite noisy and the sort of place it's best to go with a maximum of 4 people. Quite noisy if that is an issue for you.

This cosy eatery tucked away in a neat little corner at Glebe is an absolute revelation. All food items on the menu are meant to be share platters, so make sure you go in with a bunch of friends. We started off our meal with the Babaghanoush (roasted eggplant mashed with herbs and spices served alongside garlic sauce and pine nuts) and the warmed mozzarella. Both dishes were amazing, although the Khubus (Lebanese bread) that came alongside it was a little tough and the warmed mozzarella was a little cooler than it should have been, I would still recommend trying both these dishes. We followed this up with the Wild field mushrooms (with crispy kale) which was extremely flavourful. The star dish of the night however was the Lebanese Fried Chicken (not pictured- we were so glutton we attacked it as soon as it arrived). I am trying to convert to a vegetarian diet but I couldn't resist this chicken. It was perfectly crispy and had the right balance of spices, the chicken on the inside wad incredibly soft and tender.
All in all two thumbs up for this place.

I LOOOOVVVVVEEEE Thievery. Such delicious flavors. The octopus is off tap! the hummus is next level and the drink are great too. The place has such an awesome vibe. I would 100% recommend for a date night and for friends, it is a sharing type tapas set up and will not be disappointed.

Thievery is one of the precious gems in Glebe which serves solid Lebanese/Middle Eastern food (though I suspected its authenticity because I had never come across these dishes during my 6 months in Jerusalem)

I tried the awesome Lebanese Fried Chicken, Smashed Potatos and Meringue. The spiced smashed potatoes were tasty and invited me to munch piece by piece continuously. The LFC was marvelously tender and juicy and it would be perfect if the chef left the chicken pieces in the marinate for a few hours more. The meringue was just mind blowing and crumbled graciously without being too sweet and stubbornly hard.
Those Who Love To Eat
Saturday night dinner bought us to Thievery. It has been on the 'to go' list and I'm glad we came here. The service here is good and wait staff, fairly attentive. The establishment oozes chill factor, and hip decor and a few dining seats downstairs. We didn't sit downstairs, and were ushered upstairs to their terrace dining area, seated on their bench dining space onlooking Glebe Point Rd. The seating however, was less than desirable. The seating was uncomfortable and high, but you got reprieve from all the noise, and that was the trade off.

Starting with drinks: I ordered their Wet Rose cocktail which was tasty but felt as though something was missing. As for food, all of Thievery's food is designed for sharing.
Food wise: we ordered two dishes. Thievery Neyyah and the BBQ octopus with chargrilled eggplant and black garlic.
It's a Middle Eastern fusion that really tantalises one's tastebud, and takes you on a real culinary journey indeed.
Great place to have a girls day hangout. Nice staff and great cocktails. The location is great and convenient, the store is not that easy to find but still, nice bar

Thievery was delightful from start to finish. We were one of the first ones there (with a booking) and weren’t a fan of the high tables on the ground level where we were originally seated. After enquiring about any other spare tables, they actually took us upstairs to an even cooler space. The place as a whole has great vibes and pretty awesome music, with super friendly staff.

We ordered the iceberg (which was literally lettuce with ‘tabbouleh’ on top), roasted cauliflower (I can never go past this at any Lebanese restaurant), smashed potatoes, LFC (Lebanese fried chicken), and charred Hokkaido scallops.

Everything was great (although I’ll have to take my friend’s word on the LFC as I didn’t have any) with the standouts being iceberg and cauliflower. Very fresh, strong flavours. The smashed potatoes (come to think of it, they weren’t actually smashed) came in a decent serving so great value especially if you need something to fill you up. There were only 3 scallops for the $21, and although the scallops themselves were cooked perfectly, I didn’t find the whole dish worth the cost. It was tasty, however everything else was too!

I also had the pimp my colada cocktail which was delicious! Almost like savoury, or I could be very wrong as it had pineapple and honey. 🤔

Service was upbeat and helpful, although there was one girl who would bring every single dish to our table (not ours included). It’s as if she only saw us in her line of vision, and 3 times we had to let her know we didn’t order whatever it was she had put down in front of us. 😅 The bill came out in a book which was pretty cool, but when we opened it we were in for a bit of a surprise. Was a tad more than we anticipated, but then again we ate heaps and probably over-stayed.
Amanda
The food was nice. Had the olives, hummus and halloumi and prosecco. I felt it was overpriced for what you got particularly with respect to the drinks. The prosecco seemed flat to me .

We were drawn to this place by the ice cream kebab. Like many trendy restaurants these days, the menu was made for sharing. The staff were very helpful and we went with their recommendations. The Lebanese fried chicken stood out for me, it was nicely seasoned and very crispy, but not oily (which is important for the health conscious). I just remember it was a pleasant experience with above average food.

I don't often eat Lebanese food, but what made us choose this place was their Baklabar which I tried at Sweet Street this year. It was so good I wanted to come try the rest of the menu. We came on a Monday night, not too busy but still had a great vibe. We were seated at the bar tables near the entrance, not really the most comfortable seating, but they are very thoughtful & have hooks on the side of the table to hang your bag. The waitstaff were really friendly and explained the menu & recommended cocktails. The menu are tapas style & sharing, we got 4 savouries to share. All of the dishes were good. The LFC (Lebanese fried chicken) was very crispy, good seasoning (not as good as Thirsty Bird though). The Nayyeh was a Beef tartare, but mixed with crispy bits, hardly notice it was raw beef. The chargrilled octopus was my fav for the night, perfect char smokey note. Good texture. The cauliflower was enjoyable too. Then for dessert we got the baklabar & the malt cookie with the cardamom ice cream. Really keen to try their cardamom ice cream, and it was good, with a subtle spice taste, quite creamy, but the cookie was too hard. The baklabar was a smaller version then what I had & was served with a mulberry & ashta, a Lebanese cream which had a strong cheese fermented taste. The baklabar was ok, not as good as I remembered, it had too much rose water syrup & too sweet. The ashta was just too strong for me. Overall a interesting experience, great if you want to try something different.

Visited Thievery on a Saturday night and there was plenty of street parking despite the crowds. Thievery has both a downstairs/bar stool area, upstairs seating and balcony seating. It was pretty crowded and had a very social vibe.

Ordered 'the Stolen Nine' 9 course dinner for 3 people and it was incredible. At first, they brought out 'mum's pickles', marinated olives and hummus/turkish bread. It was all delicious, especially the hummus. Each dish was small but dishes were brought out swiftly enough that there was plenty of food to pick at. Then came iceberg lettuce with tabbouleh on top, as well as some kind of crunchy dish. Soon after that came the haloumi with zucchini and nuts. Then came the felafel kebabs which were fantastic- felafel was crunchy and flavorsome with pickled vegetables in the miniature kebabs as well. Then came the smashed potatoes and grilled bird. The smashed potatoes were well-spiced and the bird marinated and tender. There was also special thievery hot sauce which could be sprinkled on the food if you have a love of spice. Finally came the malt cookie for dessert, which was very sweet but also nice and cool on a hot summer's night.

Overall, the courses were small but due to their impeccable timing they worked well to fill you up. We were all completely full by the last courses. It was predominantly vegetarian which was nice, because the dishes were light and easy to eat. The food was all incredibly authentic. The courses came very swiftly at first, then there was more breaks, allowing you to digest- overall, food service was quick.

Had an excellent wine/beer and cocktail list. Cocktails were actually tasty and sizeable, and not 100% ice. Their water service was the best I have ever experienced- every few minutes my water glass would be refilled by the waitress, which on a hot summer's evening eating dishes with a hint of spice, this was much needed.

I would definitely recommend the 9 course meal for anyone with a party of more than 2. The haloumi, smashed potatoes and bird were my favourite, but I would have liked to try the bbq octopus and would love to see that added to the 9 course special. I would highly recommend this place for drinks and a casual night out as well.

Super tasty food in a hip hop music ambiance, ... highly recommended for a group gathering, good food, good music and amazing service, what else?! Going back? Definitely.
I Ate My Way Through
The moment you walk into this hole in the wall eatery, you are immediately transported to another realm with its quirky ethnic interior; from the Arabic graffiti to the literal holes in the walls. I personally loved the exposed brick walls, which complemented the dark metal tables; I felt as if I walked into a thieves’ hideout. The menu here pays homage to the chef’s Middle Eastern roots and having little to no exposure to the cuisine, this was a great introductory experience that opened my palate to new flavours.

With 8 shared courses, the degustation is a terrific introduction to Thievery. Not a fan of the pickles which were really salty. I like mine on the sour, tangy side. On the fence about: the iceberg topped with pureed "tabouleh" but the minty flavours of the paste grew on me after a few bites; the falafels which were decent but not great. My highlights were: the creamy hummus coated in nutty burnt butter and accompanied by soft Lebanese bread; the grilled haloumi which had an interesting crumbly(?) texture and was firmer and dryer than others; the grilled chicken that was impossibly moist and tender, even the breast meat, and covered in a delicious sauce with Moroccan spices. But my absolute favourite was dessert which had basically everything I dream about in a sugar rush : a chewy, spicy malt cookie reminiscent of gingerbread, a beautiful, rich cardamom ice-cream flecked with ground spices and crunchy coffee granola for texture. The slight bitterness of the coffee and molasses balanced the sweetness perfectly. Service was friendly but special mention goes to one waiter in particular who was super nice and thoughtful - our friends brought their baby along and he went out of his way to make sure they had everything they needed. Thievery is a cool little spot for modern Middle Eastern food. Would def return if only for dessert!

Really enjoyed eating here last night. Our waiter was really informative and fun. The decor is super cool, easy to bypass the front until you find yourself standing under the purple neon x, marking the spot. The food was great, we has the nana gannoush, warm mozzarella, thievery neyyeh, smashed potato and fried chicken. I loved the chicken and potatoes. Definitely a must try.
Jonathan Ong
we ordered the baba ganoush, haloumi, cauliflower, octopus, shrimp & 1 cocktail, which was more than enough for 2. came to about $108.
everything was well cooked, though I did find all the flavours a little on the tart side (I generally don't like sour things, though my wife didn't think it was too tart & loved it) I probably prefer Yalla Yalla in London if that's a fair comparison.
the place is hip & cool, the music was quite upbeat & loud
Always_eating
Delicious middle eastern fare with a twist, place was packed on a rainy Friday night so you know it's good. Fabulous cocktails. I'd go back just for more of that burnt butter hummus!
Renee Chan
Found this to be a little bit anticlimactic for the hype around this place. Service was good, individually the dishes were good - recommend the pumpkin and haloumi, the lfc and the asparagus with sheeps yoghurt and caramelised onion; the blade steak special though was quite salty and everything had a lot of oil, so were it not for the yoghurt that helped to cut through the dense and heavier oily dishes it would've been quite hard to get through.

High tables with high bar stools and loud music - not so much a place to catch up with friends over dinner as a place to grab a drink and a bite to eat before moving on
Onara
More a bar than a restaurant, along with its impressive cocktail menu Thievery serves up delicious turbo-charged contemporary Lebanese food, to a crowd that ranges from hipsters to grandparents. I don't know of anything else quite like it in Sydney
Alan King Bowden
Amazing middle eastern tapa style restaurant and bar. Falafels were amazing, cauliflower was amazing, and octopus was amazing. Great atmosphere and great vibes. Will definitely return!
Two Girls One Fork
We know the perfect place for some great food to enjoy while escaping the cold. @thethievery in Glebe is a small bar that packs a huge punch. As soon as you see the glowing neon sign outside, you know you're in for a treat. It's an intimate affair with tables and stools consuming the whole space and a bar running up the right hand side. It feels like you have entered a hidden underground bar. Take a look at the menu and your mouth will start watering! From the short but extremely considered cocktail list to the Lebanese style street food, there's something to complement every type of night. Pictured is the Haloumi, Smashed Potatoes and Thievery Nayyeh. The slabs of haloumi were huge and perfectly cooked, offset with pumpkin and mint to get rid of some of the saltiness. The nayyeh, a raw beef dish resembling tartare, was the best raw meat that's been prepared for our Meateater in yonks and the potatoes... CRISPY AF. We'd also recommend the BBQ Octopus and the Haloumi, which is served with a burnt butter and will change how you eat hamoumi forever. Like, really.

Great food that's very well priced. Delicious cocktails full of personality. A cosy space that'll warm you up. What else do you need this Winter?! You're welcome, Sydney.

Love love love Thievery!! This is a new addition to my list of amazing restaurants in Sydney to try!!!

It's Lebanese food with a modern twist. The dishes are fun and shareable, and each one screams an amazing taste that's worth exploring. Since I visited here on a late Friday night with a friend, we were (slightly) intoxicated but still we were able to taste all the amazing dishes we ordered.. We were the last ones at the restaurant as well (Thanks Thievery staff for putting up with us) as we just loved the cosy atmosphere and food so much. It's worth checking out for sure, standouts were the Thievery Nayyeh, Hummus (so much of it!) Grilled Bird, Angus Beef Kebab. We really wanted to try the fairy floss dessert but it wasn't available sadly.. But we tried one of their other desserts the Tahini Cookie I believe.. which was still killer. Yum yum!!
Alana Rueben
Yummy food, cool decor, nice staff, good options for drinks. The hummus was my favorite for sure, highly recommended. You need to book which is a bit annoying as I wish I could just walk in whenever!

Great place for dinner and drinks. Came with the girlfriend and she loved the pomegranate drink. Food is good but not cheap. Will go back but not in a hurry.
Ryan Macca
Love this place - ambience food and service are all excellent. They are doing something different and winning at it! I wish they would bring back the salad they used to have with the soft poached egg and dukkah - that was amazing and was disappointed it wasn't on the menu last time I visited.
Randomness_of_existence
This has to be my new favourite restaurant! ❤️ I rarely go to a restaurant and leave thinking that I have to visit again as soon as I can. This place was definitely one of those rare places.

The dishes here are made to be shared and it's a good thing! It's so hard to decide what you want as everything looks sooo good! A must try is the babaganoush with burnt butter. It is so addictive! We ordered the roasted cauliflower fattoush salad. I loved the freshness and the crunchiness of the salad. Another dish which caught my eye was the Lebanese Fried Chicken 😊 the dipping sauce was particularly unique, squid in aioli. Interesting right? It was pretty delicious 😋

I have to mention, the extensive drink menu! I rarely have drinks in the middle of the day, but the cocktail menu was just too enticing! My favourite was the Wet Rose.
SM
The food is very nice - I highly recommend the baba ganoush and the lamb kebab. However, the chefs are let down by some members of the front of house. Our waiter was fixated on the 8:30pm reservation change over, and after arriving at 6:00pm for dinner we felt pressured by the waiter to order all of our food in one go. I understand that this allows the business to potentially make more money by turning over the tables faster but it comes at the expense of guests feeling like they can't order more food (and without more food on the way you don't need another drink). We ended up finishing by 7:30pm!
Niki
These guys do it differently; differently well. With a little variation in combinations, they serve up some amazing stuff. Great examples are their fattoush, wet rose cocktail and icecream kebab.
Pankaj Kawatra
Thievery lives up to the expectation.
Though not everything was perfect, the experience was.
I missed out on the ice cream kebab, but the pomegranade drink hit the spot
Aaron Hampson-Smith
Lebanese food with a funky, modern twist sums up Thievery, this definitely ain't your normal kebab joint! Started with deep-fried Bastourma Cigars filled with halloumi & fermented chilli and hummus with burnt butter and flat bread but the kebabs with slow roast lamb, wagyu beef and pork belly were the star! 😍 Dessert takes the meal to another level. The Chocolate Ice-Cream Kebab with Persian Floss is amazing!!
TrufflePig
It was only by chance I visited Thievery. Being somehow stuck for ideas for dinner, Thievery was close, and somehow we also managed to get in for the first place we phoned.

With a dimly lit downstairs dining area, the atmosphere is great for a sneaky Saturday night. There is a very cool vibe among staff but it took them quite some time to take our order. Admittedly a few people were arriving at this time though.

I love that most of the menu is made of smaller, share plates, as I love to sample. Six dishes including one kebab dish was more than enough to satisfy two. I loved the fried okra, although found the beetroot salad lacking and the cigar lacklustre. The lamb kebabs were tender and tasty, and the crumb crispy on the LFC. Squid Ink Toum visually impressive yet sadly lacking in flavour.

Quality food and a cool vibe, this was a lovely dinner however I was not wowed to the point of rushing back for urgent return.
Excuse Me Waiter
It’s been a little while since I last ventured out to Glebe for a meal (all the late night coffees and desserts at Brewristas don’t count), but we were keen to try the playfully named Thievery, run by the team behind one of our favourite food trucks, Eat Art Truck. The darkly lit eatery thankfully has a second level, as there’s not much seating downstairs and it’s fully booked on the Saturday night we walked in for dinner. Up the rickety stairs you’ll see the Arabic graffiti on the wall and the accidentally on purpose holes left in the ceiling to give the place an authentic thieves’ lair vibe, while paying homage to the Middle Eastern fare on the menu.
NiMa
Yummy food. Highly recommend "kebabs" and Nutella baklava. Cool vibe, easy going but attentive service. The cocktails feature strong twists on classics and it totally pays off. The flavours in the drinks aren't just your classic margarita plus a fruit, they stand out and are a nod to the original. Would come again for a light meal and drinks

Outstanding. Great vibe (love love love the industrial feel), staff extremely attentive and food fresh, delicious and modern. Pricing also terrific!

Dining at Thievery was really a last minute decision for us. We were deciding on where to eat and remembered reading a lot of positive reviews about this place, so we thought we'd rock up and try our luck. The host was very welcoming, and even though we arrived unannounced and the place was packed, he showed us to a space on the second story balcony looking out to Glebe Point Road. We ordered the burnt butter hummus, fried cauliflower fattoush and the slow roast lamb, wagyu beef sharwarma and felafel kebabs. All very nice but the hummus was a clear stand out for us. I'm a bit of a hophead so I washed it all down with a Fig Jam IPA, while the mrs had a glass of pinot noir. It's a little on the pricey side versus portion size but very delicious nonetheless.

Very disappointing.
Went there for a birthday so we were a big group. To their credit they served us quickly and efficiently and we always had enough drinks. So the service was top notch.
The place was let down by the food though.
The hummus was bland, which is something they should always get right in a middle eastern place. That's the one thing you can't stuff up.
The rest of the food was so salty, that even someone like myself, who usually adds salt to everything, struggled to eat it.
Having eaten in many middle eastern suburbs, it was quickly clear that the menu was not targeted at middle eastern customers, but to the more westernised taste.
The food was expensive for what it was.
So if you want a pretty meal in a pretty place then this is it for you.
If you want real middle eastern food, go to Lakemba!

(I walked out and my breath had no garlic in it. That says it all)

Modern Lebanese food at great value. Silky baba ghanoush and outstanding wagyu kebab. We were full but ended up getting 1 more. Very attentive service too.

Modern Lebanese. Chefs are ex Rockpool, Chin Chin and Nomad. Fabulous food, reasonably priced, good service, great vibe and they actually take bookings.

We really enjoyed it. The highlight was hands down the Baba Ghanoush. The fried cauliflower salad was delicious as well, with lots of textures and flavours (although a bit more cauliflower and less tomato would have been even better). The kebab ice cream was interesting, despite the fact that the bread wasn't needed thanks to the intense flavour of the chocolate ice cream and caramel pearls. Will definitely go back.
To Flourish
A contemporary spin on traditional Lebanese food. This place was beautifully decorated, the staff were just delightful. I had the babaganoush dip/ flat-bread and the snapper kebab and both were inhaled and enjoyed thoroughly. I was left a very happy customer.

From the moment you walk in you can tell that there is something exciting and different here, a middle eastern menu with bad ass hip hop music pumping it ! Theres not many places i can go with my bf who is vegetatrian and we both drool over the food! We loved it... you have the try the Babaganosh, the empanadas are fried little pockets of cheesey goodness with a garlic sauce and LFC the Lebanese fried chicken is sensational !!! dont forget the mini kebabs -all of them are so moorish. Cocktails to wash it all down and i can say this is my new favorite restaurant in sydney ☺ and it doesn't blow the budget

Would go back to this place every night if I could for their wagyu beef kebabs. The hummus is matched with burnt butter, sweet and creamy but must be shared. The fried chickpeas were well seasoned and put with a salty chorizo like sausage. The only area needing improvement would be dessert, the dessert kebab sounds so good, but there's really not enough going on.

Food was delicous. We had the banquet menu at $50 a head. Meat was tender & dessert was fresh. However quite pricey & serving size was small. Boys were still peckish afterwards.
Eat Drink Play
Devised by the gang that created the hugely popular Eat Art Truck, comes Middle Eastern bar and restaurant, Thievery. It opened its doors yesterday (Tuesday 5 May 2015). The food is inspired by the street vendors of the Middle East and heroes the exotic flavours of the region. Former Rockpool and Chin Chin chef Jordan Muhamad leads the kitchen team with Julian Cincotta (Nomad, Rockpool and 2015 Josephine Pignolet Chef of the Year) consulting on the menu.

Champagne & sweets my 2 favourite things! The Thievery - fantastic new small bar in Glebe! Try the kebab ice cream - chocolate ice cream, rose fairy floss! They play old skool music and have super friendly staff, it's pretty small but it's nice and you could go casual or dressy if you want to. Eating Out Sydney

I had such high hopes for Thievery, but it didn't really live up to the potential.

Someone in my party was a celiac and the only option they could give her was to replace the bread dishes with lettuce (three sad cos leaves). There is so many fantastic gluten free bread options out there, it's a wonder they don't have anything better (or more plentiful) to offer.

Also, there is only one bathroom in the whole restaurant (for males and females), so guests are expected to wait in an awkward narrow stairwell for the facilities. I wasn't a fan of the interiors... they've tried a bit too hard with the faux holes in the ceiling. The service was fine as was the food, but nothing to write home about one way or the other. So sadly I won't be recommending Thievery or coming back any time soon.

Disappointed by the experience. After reading some great reviews of the Thivery, we went there on a Saturday night for dinner. We were disappointed to hear that by by 8.30pm, they had run out of some of their signature dishes - Shanklish Empanada, 'LFC', and the Fried Chicken kebab.

The highlights were the hummus (with burnt butter and paprika) and the baba ganoush - an inventive and incredibly delicious take on the Lebanese staple. The Fried Cauliflower Fattoush was also good, although a little on the acidic side for me. The 'kebabs', which were more like tacos, were tasty although it felt like a lot of bread by the end of the night.

The cocktails were excellent, the highlight for me were the Hotel Georgia and Rose one. The house red wine which was recommended to us was underwhelming however.

Service was not great, with the staff forgetting various items of our order multiple times. While it was great to see the restaurant packed to the brims on a Saturday night, it was evident the wait staff were struggling to keep up with demand.

On the fence as to whether I will go back. If I do, it will be a fair while away so that the restaurant adjusts its produce and service to match demand.

Fresh, tasty menu and a very welcome addition to an under-utilised hub of the inner west. Can't wait to visit again!

Really really liked this place. So did hubby, and he is really picky. One word to sum up the cauliflower fattoush- scrumptious! My husband HATES cauliflower and this share plate dish was ordered at the request of one of our friends, and hubby demolished it! Says it's the only way he will eat cauliflower from now on. We had about 10 dishes and every one was delicious, interesting and fresh. Barman made me an off-the-menu Hotel Georgia cocktail, so so so good, an original twist on a pisco sour. Will be back for sure.

Fantastic. This place took awhile to open and my partner and I were pretty sceptical to say the least, however upon recommendations of a friend we decided to give it a try and HOLY COW...are we glad we did!
The food is Phenomenal. Hummus and burnt butter, who'd have thought! The staff are fantastically friendly. We were seated at the bar upstairs and they made us feel like we were at our local as soon as walked in. No uncomfortable small talk here. I tried the baklava cocktail and it was honest to god one of the best Ive had. I know I sound like im bragging here, but honestly Im not. Normally I only leave negative reviews of places but I was super impressed. 10/10 guys, well done. Hope you settle into Glebe to stay.

Good bar. Butter & hummus? Could work, but not in this preparation. Check out Michael's at Keppos St.
