Review Green Mushroom - Sydney

Delicious! Was here with 30 people and food came fairly quick with the size of our event! The food is amazing and I’m addicted to the vegan cheese naan. Can’t wait to go back! Now my favourite Indian!

We had family dinner last Saturday of May 2022 we ordered several dishes to share. All the dishes came except the rice so we had to eat everything without any rice. I tried vegan Lamb very hard and chewing..

Finally I went to try this place. So Overall I’m happy the service: very friendly and helpful to choose dishes that’s why raise my score to 4 star. But food I’m not convinced yet, i would score between 3/4 I try a few entrees and some of them where slightly off, as a chef my self I have a very delicate smell and taste if something is not fresh. (The creamy base definitely off) 2/3 star The mains definitely raise up my score taste good and rich, light not so aggressive as usual Indian or to spicy very enjoyable food. Price very affordable for the food quantity. Definitely a place to try a few more time :)

We arrived quite late and the staff accommodated us graciously (even taking lovely pics of us, thanks!). Having an all-vegan Indian restaurant on King street is so perfect 👌🏽 The food is lovely, and the choices are great. Definitely worth a try for date nights, groups of friends, or when you just want some great Indian food 🥘🌱

Staff was very accommodating, even though we walked in at 7pm on Valentine's Day. Delicious food, lighter than your usual Indian, which my stomach appreciated. Everything we ordered was great, the Tandoori tofu was spectacular and my favourite. I can't wait to come back soon!

Warning atmosphere. Friendly and professional customer service. The food is simply sublime! The Italian girl that served our table recommend us the top best selling dishes, and we were not disappointed. I have to go back to try literally everything they have on their menu. Definitely go for the mango ice cream, the pistachios one was not as intense in flavour as I thought it may be. This place a must try in Glebe!

My partner and I just ordered take away from the Green Mushroom for the the first time and are both blown away! It's so nice finally having a full vegan Indian restaurant to go to! Everything was just AMAZING. I wish I could give this place 10 stars instead of 5. I highly recommend them.

A very lovely and welcoming place with a delicious, well priced vegan menu. I've been to their old place in Glebe many times and always enjoyed the food and wonderful service. The new venue in Newtown carries on the tradition but has great ambience and decoration. Highly recommend!

The place has some really great food. I had Pani Puri, which is among the best by far I have had in Sydney. For mains, we ordered butter chicken and palak tofu which were both delicious. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't have the option to order paneer instead of tofu with palak but the taste more than made up for this. Garlic naan was a bit dry, would recommend ordering cheese naan which is excellent although their naans are generally a tad smaller. As for ambience, while the seating and decor are cute, the place can get a bit crowded and hence a little noisy.

Honestly so happy to find an all vegan Indian place that has an abundance of options.<br/>Everything we had was so tasty. <br/>100% recommend and will be back.

Food was absolutely incredible - went with family and friends who aren’t vego and they couldn’t fault the food. The butter ‘chicken’ was a stand out for everyone - even ordered a second serve. Garlic/regular naan was so soft and perfect side dish. Only issue we had was that the service was a little slow - but that might’ve been because we were one of the first in the restaurant.

Great food <br/>#lamb roganjosh #naans <br/>I love the food a lot here . <br/>If you want the food to me mild , medium or hot . <br/>You have to let the waitress knows about it . <br/>The place is great so not in rush order in a sequence. <br/>

There was a period in my life where I was craving the vindaloo from Green Mushroom everyday lol. This place is awesome because their menu is huge so there’s a variety of different dishes that you can try. I’d had to say that some dishes are pretty average like the butter chicken. But there are some amazing goodies on the menu . After trying a few different things, I’d have to say that my fav dishes would be the honey cauliflower and lamb vindaloo (spicy tho so be warned). The lamb substitute they use seems to be a mushroom stem of some sort but it’s not like anything I’ve had before. The chew, bite, tender/toughness of the mushroom is reminiscent of meat and it shreds as well.<br/>The naans and roti all are amazing as well

This restaurant has such great vegan curries, and they even have vegan naan and raita! And can you believe their BYO corkage is only $2! It’s a warm atmosphere and the staff are all so welcoming and polite. A great place to catch up with friends or take your family. I suggest sharing a variety of meals so you all get to try many things.

I think this is one of the only - if not the only Indian vegan restaurant. It’s also BYO which is great. We got the “lamb” curry and a mushroom one. Both were full of flavour and creamy and delicious.

Delicious! We stumbled upon Green Mushroom walking down Glebe Point Rd and decided to give it a go as it was jam packed inside. Surprisingly, there was an unoccupied small table in the corner which meant we didn’t have to wait long. <br/><br/>The menu was long so it took us a long way to decide as it requires careful reading and googling. However, no one ever made us feel like we had to be in a hurry and the lovely waitress was always happy to help. <br/><br/>We ordered chat Papri for entry, two mains being the dal tadka and eggplant potato masala along with the naan basket. Everything was so full of flavor and satisfying. In many instances we had forgotten we were in a vegan restaurant. The dishes were all brought out in order so we never felt rushed and gives us lots of time to chat and enjoy every drop of food <br/><br/>Highly recommended

Green Mushroom has carved out a unique niche by becoming fully vegan on a street that has at least 3 other Indian restaurants within a 500m radius. The food is extremely flavourful and I certainly don't miss the presence of meat. My personal favourite curry, Malai Kofta, is done extremely well with a rich cashew sauce and dumplings made from only vegetables rather than the usual paneer and potato mix.<br/>It also has my favourite naan along Glebe Point Rd!

Sydney's first ever vegan Indian restaurant; so I was excited to try! The menu was sooo long, it may be a little overwhelming actually. Staff are willing to help out but it felt too burdensome at the end because it was so full on. As much as the help was appreciated, we also wanted some time to chat and chill by ourselves, rather than having to respond to the waitress every 5 minutes. 😳<br/><br/>Perhaps expectations were a little high, but overall I felt the meal did not quite meet the mark. The "lamb" roganjosh was the highlight, we really enjoyed it, and it is a dish I would gladly go back for. The other curries were okay, one was quite watered down, but still okay. The honey chilli cauliflower was too sweet unfortunately, so it was hard to have too many.<br/><br/>I think if you stick to the curries it shouldn't be too bad, but I have definitely had better vegan Indian curries elsewhere. Highly recommend the lamb rogan josh, but the others will just have to be trial and error.

While visiting the Cruelty Free Shop for the Vegan Day Out, I received a 10% off voucher to visit Green Mushroom. The free complementary chai tea was calming and delicious, it had a strong scent of ginger, but took a while to be served. As for the food items, the chaat papri was... unexpected. I expected it to be a warm curry to dip into the garlic naan bread but instead it was cold and had an odd flavour, however, the sweet potato pieces gave it a nice texture. <br/><br/>The fact that all the menu options were vegan was great and I would definitely come back to try the other hot curries, which were a standout for me (particularly the malai kofta) during this trip. The service is one of the best I've seen, with staff being super accommodating but I must say, service was extremely slow even with few diners.

It is stated outside of the place that, "Green Mushroom is the first ever vegan Indian restaurant." The interior was beautiful, exotic and inviting. <br/><br/>We had an experimental start with some Panipuri, which were balls of crispy puri, filled with a spicy consommé. It bursted in our mouths with a distinct refreshing tangy flavour. <br/><br/>The highlight of this place is the lamb rogan josh, apparently the owners' favourite. It was full of rich flavour and had a soft crumbly texture even better than real lamb itself! The honey chilli cauliflower was also another favourite, despite the fact it was quite sweet, it tasted exactly like chinese honey chicken.<br/>However, the eggplant potato masala was a little bland and appeared to be more attractive than its' taste. In addition the serving sizes could of been a little larger.<br/><br/>If you are in a chatty mood, the waitress can give you a whole rundown of the menu which can be helpful if you need it. The staff was overly attentive to the point we were asked after every dish how the dish was, what we liked about it and if we wanted another drink. It almost felt as if we were doing a pop quiz which unfortunately made us want to consume our food rapidly and leave before we failed the test. Despite some stand out dishes, due to the pressure we felt by the waitress who was overly talkative I do not feel the need to return.

What a beautiful ambiance they have at Green Mushroom. The interiors and even the uniforms of the staff create such a nice vibe. <br/><br/>As far as vegan and vegetarian restaurants go, this one has great offers. We had quite a lot of dishes and they were all uniquely tasty and prepared with care. The fried zucchini entree was delicious with a perfect golden crispy light batter. The eggplant dish we had was rich and full of flavour and the tofu palak was enjoyable but my favourite was their naan breads. The coconut was my favourite but they were all so fluffy and super tasty. All of the dishes were quite good serving sizes. <br/><br/>The staff were very friendly and after splitting the bill between three it came to a well priced meal for the amount of food.

A good selection of vegetarian foods. All was very tasty. Despite being a busy night, the food and service was good. A nice cosy atmosphere inside. Food is well priced and portions are fair. Great place to go if you have vegetarians on board as there is a good selection for everyone (p.s I am not a vegetarian)

I'm no expert at vegetarian restaurants but I do know that the dishes here are great and on a Monday night this place was packed to the rim. The cuisine is Indian with a nice decor. The waitresses are very friendly here. I highly recommend the signature dish palak mushroom and the chat papri.

Best vegetarian place I've been to, to date!<br/>This restaurant with its non stand out features, where you could easily walk past it, makes the best vegetarian curries you could imagine. I think, Indian vegetarian cuisine has to be the best tasting to a non vegetarian.<br/>I have walked past this place many of times but didn't strike me to pay a visit but a friend of mine wanted to try this place and the rest is history. <br/>The decor of this place is an interesting one. Dolls hanging from the ceiling at the front of the restaurant and other random relics. It's seems like it was decorated from a stream of consciousness. That aside. When you walk in, it felt warm and welcoming. Once seated, the waitress comes out with complimentary pappadum which was really lovely. <br/>Ordered samosa to start off with. Two curries to share with one serve of basmati rice and garlic naan. The best garlic naan I've tasted. Fresh, fluffy and fresh garlic taste. I'd come back just for the naan! It was that good!<br/>Really resonably priced and filling. I would come back here when I'm in the mood for a wholesome vegetarian meal.

One word - AMAZING!<br/><br/>Ok, so let me elaborate! My brother and my cousin are currently visiting me in Sydney, and they were craving Indian good. We deicied to give this place a try.<br/><br/>It's located on Glebe Point Road, in a relatively quiet and peaceful area. The interiors are well done, and has a distinct Indian ambiance.<br/><br/>We ordered a variety of items (Tofu Tikka, Veg Pakora, Kumbh Do Pyaza, some breads, and vegetable Biryani). It took a while for the food to arrive, but the wait was worth it. The food was amazing!Full of flavour, and just the right amount of spices! These guys seem to know exactly what they are doing! <br/><br/>The staff members who attended to us were warm and friendly. This place is so good, that I don't think it's necessary to give section-wise ratings. I docked off 0.5 points only because the biryani was a bit bland, It could be made slightly more spicy.<br/><br/>One thing is for sure, though. I'll likely be a regular guest here, henceforth!

Green Mushroom is BYO, and they have a number of dishes on their menu which generally aren't offered elsewhere. We sampled the Pani puri and Chat papri, alongside Baigen Bartha, Rajma, Paratha and Naan. We were walk-ins very early on a Sunday night, however the place filled up in incredibly...

"The Tasty Shroom"<br/><br/>Aidan - <br/><br/>Green Mushroom certainly know their demographics - citizens of Glebe love a bit of Indian as much as they love their meat-free diets - and Kaleb and I are no different. We took our appetites for curry along and were treated to food that hit all the sweet spots. It was delicious (standard for Indian cuisine but exceptional here), affordable, quick and well presented. The atmosphere is understated and casual so don’t expect an authentic Indian fantasy, but the food takes the spotlight so much so that the interior fades into the background. As is the theme for our date nights, we were incredibly hangry and the decadent serving sizes did not disappoint - I was bursting by the end. Something to note - neither of our meals or entrees were spicy at all. You won’t find this white boy complaining about that, but it’s something to note for spice seekers. For lovers of vegetarian Indian foods I’m not convinced that there is a better option than Green Mushroom. 4/5<br/><br/>Kaleb -  <br/><br/>Green Mushroom is a vegetarian oasis in a still somewhat meat-dominated neighbourhood. Eating on a Friday night before we parted ways for that weekend, Aidan and I finally had the chance to eat at "that vegetarian place". We arrived early in the evening, so we were spoilt for attention from our courteous waitress. The decor was charming and glamorous, and (I guess) authentic, residing in a classic Inner-West restaurant building. The service was good, and we had a nice table by the wide windows. I ordered Dal Khashbudar and naan and was very impressed by the nuances in the flavours of a common dish. The service is great with reasonable prices, and would especially recommend to vegetarians! 4/5

Great food! We, a couple from Germany, are quite critical guests, but the meal was really delicious: tasty, well seasoned and hot.<br/>We asked for a side salad which we got, although it is not on the menu (only there could have been more dressing).<br/>The waitress was friendly and attentive. The inside is nicely, but not overly decorated. Only the windows would need some cleaning ;-)<br/><br/>All in all: The food was excellent, we did not have to wait long, there was a nice starter, it was not expensive at all, so we were very pleased.

I love this place! Lovely atmosphere and service is always great and very friendly. A little most pricey than what I could normally afford (student budget) but well worth it when I want to treat myself. The food was sooo tasty, this spinach and mushroom curry is on point. Highly recommended!

Lovely service, nice atmosphere.. Extraordinarily bland food.. Had 3 entrees and 3 mains.. Everything had barely any flavour at all.. For those with no taste buds at all..

The best Indian food I have found in Sydney. The food is always fresh, with amazing depth of flavour. My favourite dish is the Bhel Puri. The service is always attentive and friendly and the restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere. I highly recommend a visit.

This place is a must visit if you are vegetarian or not. <br/>The service is always efficient and very friendly. I've now been many times and the service and quality never fails. Value for money is excellent. <br/>We dined last night with a couple who aren't vegetarian and by the time we left they were very impressed. <br/>The aloo gobi, spicy broccoli, pakoras, rice, naan, lamb dish, mixed vegetable curries, pasta dish were all tasty and fresh.<br/>We had this amazing entree, I can't remember the name of it!<br/>It was the finest crispest pastry that was in the shape of a small hollowed egg. And what you do, after we were instructed how to do it is you tip the sauce/liquid into the hollowed shell, that was filled with ingredients and place the whole shell into your mouth. What a wonderful sensation of flavours then hits your palette. A great experience. <br/>I don't often give a 5/5 but this restaurant deserves it. I'm thinking the gentlemen who is always there in traditional clothing is the owner. He and his staff are always friendly and helpful. A great team in front of house and a fantastic team in the kitchen preparing amazing dishes. Thank you

Wonderful vego Indian restaurant! Staff very friendly and good delicious! We had far too many entrees. Korma paneer and the vege biriani were awesome! So full! Great evil dolls hanging around!

I wouldn't usually eat at a vegan restaurant but this was a total surprise. The food was delicious - amazing flavours. Decor is basic but friendly staff. Loved the Naan. Will be back for sure!

Try it!. This is an excellent new restaurant, and quite different in style to other (also mostly good) indian restaurants in the area. I am not vegetarian but what it lacks in meat - it makes up with flavour! The service was a little slow this time, but there was a table of orders ahead of us. I enjoyed every aspect of my meal here, Onion Bhaji, Garlic Naan & Malai Kofta were all amazing.

Fantastic Indian vegetarian. I have been to Green Mushroom a few times. Excellent food, not too spicy, not too oily, just delicious...the best vegetarian Indian in Sydney in my opinion. Also very clean and reasonably priced and with a good selection of dishes.

Whole package. Went there last night and had a 3 course dinner. Every dish we ordered was delicious. The desert we had was foodgasmic. It was one of the most amazing things I've ever put in my mouth. It was a deep fried cake type of thing that was caramelised in sugar with petals of mango ice cream around. The staff are so friendly, attentive and helpful. What a lovely experience. My favourite vegetarian restaurant by far.

Great new addition to Glebe Point Road!. We had a delicious meal at Green Mushroom - excellent range of dishes. We had palak mushroom and malai kofta with naan and rice. All really tasty. Will be back.

Love the food. Been there twice and food was exception - very nice home style cooking - not the greasy oily food you get at most Indian restaurants
David
Divine, delicious and wer are coming back soon!. Simply wonderful food. Something drew us in on a wet night and we were in seventh heaven. The flavours are exceptional, the ingredients fresh and although it was a quiet night the owner Gary and his staff made the restaurant warm and homely. The eggplant was deliciously smokey, the okra super and the palak paneer silky. Well done, if all vegetarian food was this good I might be a convert.

Stumbled across it, AMAZING!!!. Live in the area, didn't know there was a new restaurant opening. Not a vegetarian but gave it a shot anyway. Food was amazing, best onion bahji I have ever eaten in my life!! Staff were great and the prices are very reasonable.

Awesome new BYO Indian Vegetarian on Glebe Point Road. Superb palak paneer, lovely decor and atmosphere, attentive staff, very reasonable prices... AND BYO! There are buses and cabs right nearby, as well as a very well stocked bottle shop just across the road and a few metres to the left. Also very central for pre or post drinks at multiple great bars. Highly recommended!

Recommended. They are a new business in Glebe so I thought I would drop them a good word. Varied menu, well prepared curry with quality ingredients. A little salty for me, but very rich and tasty. Nice decor and ambiance, friendly staff, would be a nice place to sit and dine on a night out.
