Review Village Crown - Sydney

Damien Chan
Had lunch here and was surprised at the quality of food. The menu doesn’t look like anything special but the taste was quite good. The cheeseburger was well made, the chilli prawns were very good and the chips excellent especially the sweet potato fries. One of my friends had the Irish breakfast but didn’t like it. One thing to note is that it doesn’t open til 12pm and to reserve a table beforehand will cost $30 per head.

i have come here numerous times and it definitely doesn’t disappoint. lots of great food, great cocktails and great vibes. the ragu pappardelle is so delicious! but their schnitzels are definitely a must when you come here!

The chips tasted of old oil and the steak was very chewy and not a great cut. $35 for this quality is far to much.

Gorgeous sunny afternoon, pleasant service but $25 for cold nachos made with LIQUID CHEESE! Definitely not a substance found in nature. Reheating did not improve. I’m sure it costs less but it certainly looks and tastes that way.

Great ambiance but the food was pretty meh. Chilli prawns was good though. Most other dishes were too dry. Tried the chicken fajitas, chicken wings, buffalo bill burger and chilli chicken burgers (all average). The cocktails were good but too expensive

Great place to chill and have fun time with friends, pub style restaurant done differently, better! It has a good vibe and very friendly floor staff! Food is very tasty, cocktails delicious and always some creative specials on menu!

Great spot for a big group, they're always amazingly accommodating even without a whole lot of notice. Good vibes. The mega Parma is also so big that it's literally a challenge to finish which is what you wanna see!

Fantastic staff and food!! The drinks were amazing and a large variety of them. I bit warm but it is winter so it’s good

On the outside of the East Village shopping centre. You'll see it as you drive in to park. Had a team farewell lunch there and the lunch options were yum!

I had gotten the Bill's Chicken Burger with crispy chicken tenders, ranch and buffalo sauce and coleslaw with 2 buns putting this amazing burger together! Such a filling burger and juicy crispy chicken!

Loved sweet potato chips from this place as well!

The staff was really accommodating with our large orders!

THE WORST AND INSULTING EXPERIENCE. DONT GO THERE. Thursday 10 September.

Full of joy and happiness, after a good business week, we decided to go into this restaurant and spend few hundreds of dollars in food and drinks. That was a bad choice.

We soon learn that the two persons behind the bar, acting like children in appearance and mind, had read the book of how mistreat clients. We discover an arrogance attitude, bad manners, lack of professionalism and no communication skills.

One of our friend was denied to be served, so we have no other option than to leave the premises. It is our believe that this action was based in racism and xenophobia.

Two weeks ago, the same blonde waiter was just not nice, but yesterday we decided to give a second chance. What a mistake. Dont go there, unless you want to feel insulted and mistreated.

It is so wired that the prawn linguini pasta I ordered on Thursday and Saturday tasted so different. The one I got on Thursday is spaghetti!!! That serve taste well, spicy and creamy. But nobody explained to me why it was spaghetti. Then I do get linguini tonight but it is a very small serve, much less than what I got on Thursday. I started to wonder if linguini is so more expensive than spaghetti. And this one is quite sour and not spicy, with more oil. The dish should taste not so different even if the cook is changed. At least you should use the same kind of pasta and similar amount. Most of the dishes tasted nice and I have been to this restaurant very often. This experience is not good. And once I got a cup with purple lipstick mark on it. I hope you can improve these parts.

I've been going to this place semi regularly for a couple of years. The food is always good and the staff are always very friendly. The place always seems to be busy but I've never struggled to get a seat. This time, I got the 1kg of chicken wings which was $15 (Sunday special). Great flavour - had a good level of spices but wasn't too spicy to blow your head off. Highly recommended if in the Zetland area. Great casual atmosphere - perfect for catching up with mates.

Service, vibe is to excellent quality, but when I received my food, I got the wrong order as the server mixed up my order. We also ordered chilli burger but asked to seperate the chilli but they placed it in and told us that it was "marinated" even though it was ontop of the tomato. The server needs more listening skills in order to listen to the customer.

Great spot for a drink or 2 with mates if only the food could match it

The food and food prices really lets this place down, otherwise it would make such a good meal and drink combo before heading out to town.
They have had numerous menu changes of late but it just hasn’t seemed to improve.
Sydney has become a really good burger haunt of late, so many bars and cafes producing high quality burgers and at much fairer prices but the village crow has completely missed the mark.
$18 for an average sized, blandly tasting beef burger with some flavourless chips.
The ingredients and the quality are just lacking. Confusing as the butcher in the nearby supermarket has some serious high graded meats on offer.
Perhaps I’ve been spoilt at different burger places in Sydney but when 3 of us at dinner had nothing good to say about the burgers, something is amiss. Although one of our company ordered the cheeseburger and said it was ok but agreed that the chips were disappointing.
It’s now known as the place that’s ‘just good for a few beers’ from numerous friends and colleagues that live in the area.
Hopefully they can have a revamp on their food, with either higher quality or fairer prices.
Beers and ciders are always ice cold though.

Worst possible service I've ever experienced topped by below average food. After understanding that i had ordered from the wrong section of their very busy, contrived, not to mention overpriced menu, i request my pizza (not chicken and veggies) be returned to my table as i'd have it anyway. A few minutes later, the waitress returns with my money (?) and says the flavours if the pizza did not match the order that was placed. If i wanted a different dish, I'd have to pay extra.

Meanwhile, having given up on the painful ordeal i decode to get my money back (which was short) and take a bite to my partners "mighty" burger. We would've made better burgers at home....and at half the price of this small, flat, bloody tasting patty basted with a strange sauce, between two underwhelmingly flat pieces of bread. Yum!

So, after washing down my mouthfuls of mightiness and fries (surprisingly the best part of the meal) with some cool Asahi, i could certainly see i would not be returning for food at this establishment. Attend for a couple of drinks if you have friends in the vicinity and play some Tranny bingo on a Tuesday evening. ..of course, on a full a stomach.

I've eaten many times now at the Village Crown and for what it is, it ticks all the boxes. Friendly staff, good selection of slightly posh pub food, reasonably priced drinks (good cocktail specials), and a generally pretty cool atmosphere. You won't have the most memorable meal of your life at the Crown, but it's well worth a mid-week bite to eat.

As a zetland local, I've been here many times. The burgers are something you cannot go past, probably the best burgers I've had in a long time. So much flavour packed into them! Can't say much else for the other food as I keep getting sucked in to the burger hole.

Cocktails are great too!

To put it bluntly, this food is expensive. Overpriced for what it is. Staff aren't accommodating when they stuff food orders, which is regularly. However the drinks are mint. Good for a couple of pre's before heading out, but it's expensive to have a full sesh here. Basically, don't bother eating here, just have a couple of drinks and move on.

The Village Crow was packed (in typical Zetland fashion) so we waited for a table by the bar with our cocktails. On that note, I’d suggest not to order the fairy floss cocktail – it was a but sugary. We nabbed a table and ordered burgers, Aisling went for the Cajun chicken with sweet potato fries and I had the Angus deluxe. Ohhhh yeahhhh.

Ordered the giant chicken schnitzel with fries, pepper sauce and a few lettuce leaves two halves of a cherry tomato so not really a salad ($24.90) It was ok, at those prices there are so many better options around. The couple next to us had the steaks, the smallest sirloin steaks I've seen and at $34.90, I'm glad I didn't order it as was a rip off.

Over priced. Under quality.

Loved this place when it opened but sadly gone VERY down hill.

Definitely recommend spending $11.90 on getting to Surry Hills for the pub meal that you think that you will get here rather than getting the sweet potato fries here.

Waited 5 minutes to not only be served, but to be acknowledged as the bar staff chatted to each other and neatened up the bar area.

Vegie burger cost more than most of the other burgers and was merely a sandwich of tomato, spinach, haloumi and a burnt slice of zucchini.

Once again, another over priced under quality restaurant in the Zetland area.

We have been here a few times - before they changed the name to The Village Crown - and we generally enjoyed the experience. We went today and there is roadworks all along the street and sitting outside the venue with our dog became a burden to pedestrians. The food was ok - we ordered the new half chicken and it was average to say the least. Bought dinner for four and two rounds of drinks and as we were half way through our second round the manager asked us to move inside for licensing reasons. We said we had a dog and couldn't move right away but would leave in the next 10 minutes when our drinks were done. To that we go a LOAD of attitude, finally amounting in the manager sending out a young female waitress, who was smart mouthed to tell us to leave. Absolutely unacceptable customer service and at no point should a manager or waitress become as rude or intolerant as they were.

Went for the lunch burger special and was very disappointed to find that the vegetarian burger was not included. All other burgers expect the steak burger were included, so seems strange the vegetarian wasn't part of the deal. Staff appeared to be unfriendly and the rest of the menu was overpriced.

Pretty good for a local pub. Nestled in a shopping centre, the parking is obviously convenient. Service was ok and the place is nicely decked out and clean. Some good outdoor seating too. The food was surprisingly good. Had a couple of burgers. The chicken was better than the beef and the chips were fantastic. Need to go back as its been a long time!

Had the vegetarian burger and the brownie swirls for dessert (amazing!!). The bar also made me the fairy floss martini but turned it into a mocktail (delicious). Service was prompt, polite and friendly.

T H E ☆ V I L L A G E ☆ C R O W
Wow. This place has an urban/chic/pub feel and I love it! Now if you ever visit this place you have to get the chicken schnitzel. This dish is absolutely huge and tbh, the most delicious one I've had in ages. ✌ @foodiesguidetosydney
Lunch Pie
Top notch food. I've eaten most of the dishes here and can't fault them. The Arancini balls are to die for. Giant schnitzel is so big that we actually share it between 2. Burgers...yum. I love their pasta as well. I normally opt for the creamy mushroom and chicken pasta. It's packed with ingredients and is utterly delicious. Their presentation of food is spot on! Yes....it's not the cheapest place to eat but it's quality and the venue is awesome. Sooooo cosy and lovely staff. Awesome reds and cocktails on offer as well

Great spot for a bite to eat. Had a very enjoyable lunch here, great flavours, fresh ingredients and generous serves. The caramelised walnuts in the pumpkin salad were delicious. Toilets were disgusting but apart from that we had a good experience!

Great funky little gem in the heart of Zetland.

The village crow is always bustling with hot young locals looking to chill, mix n mingle. Armed with fast bevvies, cheeky waiters and tasty 'gastropub' meals (bit more fancy than regular pub grub). It also has great music, cool decor, balanced lighting (something a lot of places could learn from) and some good cocktail deals - it's easy to see how this place is busy every night of the week.

Cons - Meals will make you chubby around the waist. No light options.

This was the Barramundi & Chips with salsa verde and it was delicious. Barramundi was cooked beautifully. The restaurant/bar has a cool vibe and there is a range of usual bar food choices on the menu. My boyfriend got the giant chicken schnitzel and believe me it is "giant"!

Been there several times. Food is good, the waitress is RUDE(Bold and flashing).

Been there several times. Food is good, the waitress is RUDE(Bold and flashing).
Walk in, dodge rude waiters, get your own cutlery, water and battle for a table and get ready to experience the crow. Have you ever stood in jb hifi and wondered where all the sad, angry, probably shouldn't be working in customer service 30 year old hipsters are? This is the place. The food is great if overpriced but the staff let this place down. 10/10 for angry arts majors taking out their poor career choices on customers.

Great food and the derogatory comments from the staff are FREE!!. I used to love the golden crispy schnitzels and creamy mushroom sauce, but will not be returning there after the manager called my work colleague "fat" and told our group as we were leaving he would "see her at the gym to work off the extra saucer of sour cream she ordered for her potato wedges" - DISGRACEFUL...

At a glance the fit out is nice but plastic plants are pretty tragic... Ordered the $17 chicken burger but the sad, wafer thin thing that appeared before me was a disgrace! Pathetic

Great service. Awesome food. Amazing desserts. Yum!

Great new addition to Zetland. Village Crow has great food and a great atmosphere. Myself and a lot of mates come here almost once a week.

Overrated like everything in East village. Overcooked burger, chips out of a bag, too expensive for what it is. $4 for fizzy tap water, please!!

The Village Crow has a dedicated children's menu and it costs $8.00. Chicken Schnitzel & Chips, Grilled Chicken Tenderloins, Ham & Pineapple Pizza, Cheesy Pizza or Home Made Meatball Pasta are your choices. The cheesy pizza was delicious - the base was perfectly cooked and the Meatball Pasta was also yummy - fresh pasta, loads of meatballs and quite a spicy sauce. My babes aren't fans of chilli and there was a touch too much in the sauce, so sadly the pasta was left uneaten. If your kids can handle chilli then go for it, they will love it.
Sarah
Pizza was delicious, however it was disappointing to be told the $8.50 pizzas stopped at 3 pm when the menu, website and various signs all clearly stated from 12 pm - 5 pm.

This place was funky when it started out but has gone downhill quickly starting with the change in name from Village Crow to the unimaginative Village Crown. Now they think they're a pub & blast you out of your table over dinner with over-amplified live music that makes conversation impossible. Plus the menu that was once interesting & fresh is now just stale. This used to be one of our favourite midweek dinner locations in the area but now it's last on our list.

*Just continues to go downhill. Tonight 6 March 2030 female bar staff doing shots while serving customers. Skankville welcome to Zetland*
