Review Lorraine's Patisserie - Sydney

Vinesh Chathurr
Located down a narrow alleyway. Very easy to miss. No dedicated parking available but there few parking lots around the area which are 5-7 minutes walk. No seating available, it is takeaway only. The desserts are very good but too pricey for the quantity.

Love their French pastries. Definitely one of the things I missed the most when I work from home instead of in the city. Before they open, there's already a queue lining outside. Must try their Paris Brest ❤️ Favourite!!

A small bakery in one of the laneways on George st. It was quite an experience just looking through their big glass doors and seeing the chefs making the sweets fresh in front of our eyes. I ordered the cream choux with caramel and a chocolate tart. I really liked the choux as it wasn’t sweet at all and the crunchy caramel slice made it extra special. They also have tarts and croissants and cakes in store so will be back to try it next time. A lovely experience!

A little difficult to find the store. In my opinion it is overpriced. The cheesecake did not meet my expectations; Henri Charpentier is better. I visited the store the day before in the afternoon and all cakes sold out. So I thought must be good. But nope, not going back there.
Caroline Toledo
So I heard that this was the best cheesecake in Sydney so I went there to try the New York cheesecake. It is $10 dollar for a small slice. Must say that the taste is not bad but it is overpriced for sure. All the desserts there are overpriced.

I ordered: 2 Sausage rolls 2 Meat pies 2 Slices of Cheesecake The food was shared amongst a small group of people. The service was good, and it was nice to be able to see the staff baking. The prices were a little high, but I would expect that from a Patisserie in this location and especially one that advertises high end food. The food was hit and miss. The two sausage rolls were pretty terrible, there was way too much fennel and the meat was gristly. One was half eaten and then tossed in the bin, no one wanted to try the other one. The meat pies were excellent - i'd recommend these, in fact this would be a one star review without the meat pies. The cheesecake, one of my favourites was a mixed bag or very bad and very good. The base was good, but too thin, the top was a fantastic consistency, but part of one slice was still runny (undercooked?). Also the flavour was confusingly bad. Both myself and other person who had a slice couldn't decide if it tasted good or not, however it was telling that neither slice was finished and about half of each got thrown in the bin. I'd come back for the meat pies, but nothing else we had today

We went to get a taste of "Sydney's best cheesecake" and were quite disappointed with the result. The taste was good, but we had to wait in line for an hour to order and the product did not live up to the expectations. By the time we could order, they didn't have many of the cakes from the menu and we were very surprised by the amount of cake you get in comparison to the price. Good cake overall, but not worth the wait or what they ask for it and most certainly not the best cheesecake in Sydney.

When you push the door and walk into this little bakery tucked away from main street, you're immediately immersed into centre of a bakers' office experience where the magic happens. You can smell, feel, and see the entire kitchen and experience the buzzing feeling being a baker. I like the design of how they just have one small corner for cashier and the rest of the shop is work area. This really puts you into the perspective of appreciating every creation the bakers make. Now the pastries, divine! The chocolate crossaint is so crispy it melts if that even makes sense (have to try to believe that makes sense). The chocolate was light enough it didn't steal the flavour of the pastry. Will have to try their infamous brownies one day (before they sell out). Just Look at the line during lunch

Ok so I really enjoyed their specialty cake. 5+ as I thought the cream strawberry was refreshing with the layer of meringue and caramalised sugar. However my husband found it a little to sweet for his liking. If you’re a sweet tooth like me, lorraine’s would be a 100% guaranteed satisfaction 😋 ps: purchased the cake oct 2019! #throwback

Come for the lemon tart - it is sensational. Would have given a rating of 5 but I also had the rhubarb pie - the pastry was fantastic (as expected)but the filling was skimpy and the mountain of sugar crystals on top made the pie so sweet that it was almost inedible. Extraordinary that the tart could be so fantastic and pie so disappointing.

I guess my expectations were a bit high when reading all those reviews, I wasn't a big fan of the cheesecake, the lemon tarte was too soft and the brownie was a bit dry. And a smile wouldn't hurt.
Kriti
Tried the coconut mascarpone cake and it was really fresh. They have a lot of varieties to choose from.A bit over priced compared to other cake shops but the taste makes up for it.

Toffee vanilla choux pastry, Paris Brest (hazelnut cream) and pearidiso (?). The choux pastry and Paris brest were both absolutely delightful. Perfect sweetness level, beautiful to look at and great textural components with cream, dough and toffee caramel flavours. I personally didn’t like the yellow one as much with its chocolate coating and lemon cream filling as it lacked a wow factor for me.

This patisserie, tucked away in the CBD, looks fantastic, and the reviews (many of them) are so good, I’ll have to come back to try some of their cake. It is charming to watch the industry of the open kitchen, and the cakes they had on display were so very pretty. I just grabbed a croissant, and had high hopes for it, but … it … was … just a croissant. Not terrible, but not a standout. Obviously, I should come back to try other treats.

Absolutely love this little cake shop! My favourite cheesecake. I've loved everything I've tried here. You just can't go wrong! If only there were seats here.
Henry's Food Reviews
An uncle from the US visits and is keen to try hidden local food gems. This just happens to coincide with your cravings for the best cheesecake Sydney has to offer. But the store has been closed till today, and he's flying back to the US tonight and you're busy during the day. So what do you do?

You spend the week leading up to today hyping the cheesecake, even visiting the shop with him while it's closed for the New Year holidays, so that, subconsciously, he's been primed to visit today.

All goes according to plan. While you're out with your brother and his friend, your uncle sends you a text saying, "SOS: help needed to share 2 pieces of NY style C-cake". You say thank you and have a good flight and give a silent cheer. Later on, you're joined by another couple and you all have KBBQ. You kind of sit on the side, preoccupying yourself with cooking and service rather than conversation.
A trip to Oliver Brown later and you're at home.

You pull the cake out of the fridge, place it on a little saucer, and go to town on that fluffy, zesty cheesecake. It's more delicious than you remembered. So delicious that you feel compelled to leave a 5-star review for Lorraine's Patisserie midway.

Once you're done, you return to what you were doing before - eating the cake, listening to "Shake it Out" by Florence + The Machine, and reflecting on how often you are the third (or 5th) wheel. But you don't cry because you're not sad.
You just keep eating that delicious cake.

I can never go wrong with Lorraine's. You can literally smell the freshly basked tarts, cakes and goods when walking own George Street, finding the little open kitchen hidden in Palings Lane.

Everytime I go I must get the following two; their New York cheesecake and the Paris Brest. Their cheesecake is honestly so light and fluffy, it literally melts in your mouth. It's not too sweet, where there's hints of lemon and ginger from the cookie base. Whereas, the Paris Brest is made from their amazing choux pastry filled with the most amazing hazelnut cream. You honestly need to try it for yourself!

Their most popular mascarpone cake tasted amazing! The lightened mascarpone cheese layered with crisp coconut along with strawberries, this combination is a magic. But still, only take away...
Princess Greedy Guts
Love this little patisserie. The hit is of course their strawberry lychee cake but I also love the chocolate cloud cake, kalamansi & rhubarb pie. I have heard a lot about their NY cheesecake so tried it on my latest visit. It was the lightest and fluffiest NY cheesecake I have had with a very distinct lemon flavour and ginger crumbed base. It was enjoyable but not a traditional NY cheesecake. Service is efficient & robotic.

Beautiful cakes by Lorraines Patisserie! Number 1 go to place for getting a slice (or whole cake) for someone special. The flavours are just amazing. You'll know once you try for yourself!
Star85206
The mascarpone cake was sold out so I chose the RUBYS CAKE. At first, I didn’t give that a high expectation because I don’t like any orange flavored chocolate. But this is the best one I’ve ever tried! It looks ordinary but it’s amazing! I will definitely try it again!!
Ankit Malik
The desert here are gorgeous. The best New York cheesecake we have ever had. This shop is super charming. Mascarpone cake is to die for. I will definitely come back to this place
Tony
Forget Black Star. Lorraine’s is in my opinion, much better. Do yourself a favour, make your way to this little patisserie in the CBD and order the mascarpone cake. Best cake I’ve had this year. Used to always make sure Black Star would be on my itinerary every single Sydney trip, but now I’ll come to Lorraine’s instead. The only pity is that it is takeaway only, but we got around that by walking to the Botanical Gardens and indulging there.
PassionatPenn
Cheesecake - 8/10
Strawberry mascarpone - 4/10 (the strawberries are terrible during the winter which is disappointing considering one slice is $10)
Service and general demanour of employees - 2/10
It doesn’t kill to smile a little... everyone working there looks miserable
Sarah Djabir
First of all, this shop is super charming.
Second of all, the mascarpone cake is to die for.
Third of all, I just want to come back and eat some more.
Rei
The mascarpone cake tasted amazing! Such a delight to try. Love the caramelised top and the balance that the fresh strawberries provide. Definitely wish to go again and try another sweet treat sometime soon. This place would be a 5/5 if seating were available but I guess we can’t have everything.
Jenny Yang
The desserts here are gorgeous. It’s such a quaint little place and I had such a hard time picking! Ended up trying the frangipane tart - and promptly went back for the New York cheesecake, and brought Ruby’s cake home. The frangipane tart is well balanced - not too sweet, and would be a perfect any occasion treat. The New York cheesecake has a more interesting flavour - the lemon is prominent and it’s much lighter than other denser versions I’ve tried at cafes. It’s a cake that would need to be enjoyed depending on one’s mood on the day. The Ruby’s cake was nice but perhaps the least favourite - the flavours meshed well however. Keep in mind that there is no seating however. Will definitely be returning to try the other offerings!
Wanmeng
Had their cheesecake, very light and not too heavy! Not a strong flavor but a nice and creamy creation! I love how it’s not too sweet so you don’t feel like stuffed at the end of it
Famishedduo
The BEST New York cheese cake we have ever had!!!!
Everything in this patisserie is amazing!
This little patisserie tucked away underneath the IVY is our go to dessert and bakery.

The recommendations so far is the NY cheese cake, the strawberry muffin, and the chocolate croissant.
We usually get there in the morning as they are baking and wait for the first batch to come up so it’s freshly out of the oven!
Ms Picky On Coffee
So many naughty deliciousness in one place! I tried cheesecake before and it was the most light cheesecake I have ever tasted! This time I got famous mascarpone cake and it didn’t disappoint! I can’t wait to try other goodies in here! I love how they do and bake it in front of you. It’s a must try!
Carla
Their offerings are small but the cheesecake is usually good.
One time there were egg shells in my cake, and when I told them they really couldn’t give a f.
“Ok” was the response I got .

William Wu
A small bakery shop in CBD, it's on a quiet and narrow street. Almost all of the space in the shop is used for baking. Seating is not available. And sometimes people queue outside to get a piece of cake!

The most famous cake is the #Strawberry Mascarpone# . The best thing is that the cake does not tastes very sweet but the cream is pretty nice!

My friend tried #Cheese cake#, which is also delicious.

It would be better if there were some seats in the shop so that we could sit and enjoy the cake.
Brekkycakes
My absolute favourite dessert place and the reason for my numerous trips back up to Sydney, Lorraines serves up delicious, authentic French desserts.

Their cheesecake($10) is simply AMAZING - its light and almost mousse-like with a subtle tartness from the lemon which balances out any richness. The crust is also on point, perfectly crunchy but not brittle or hard. I could eat this every day and never get sick of it. The toffee vanilla choux puff($4) was also perfect - the toffee adding crunch and sweetness, vanilla cream perfectly thick and creamy and of course the choux was light and airy. I loved the way the flavours harmonised together. I loved the strawberry mascarpone cake($10) which completely blew me away on the first bite - fluffiness and crunch from the meringue, nuttiness from the coconut while the tart strawberries worked so well with the rich mascarpone. I did find it a bit too rich towards the end because of the coconut and cream however it may have been due to the sheer amount of cake I had. My friend also enjoyed their raspberry choux($7.50) but make sure you eat them fresh for the best experience!!! Overall an out-of-this-world sweets experience and well worth the price.

Unfortunately the store is very small and they don't have any seating available but I'm more than happy to take as many trips as are necessary to try all of Lorraine's offerings! My only wish for this place is that hopefully the guy who is serving will be more careful when getting the cakes as he almost just tosses them into the box and it happened on both occasions I visited T_T

Strawberry mascarpone cake is out of this world - definitely a must try. Cheesecake and salted caramel tart were also yummy. Would definitely come back for some more of the mascarpone cake !!
Karli
Their strawberry mascarpone cake was out of this world! Was extremely surprised at how amazing it was. Wish I bought more. So good!!! Would definitely recommend.

.🍰Toffee Vanilla Choux Puff🍰
On the outside, the caramel is crunchy and sweet while the vanilla cream inside is fluffy and light. This creates a unique texture which I enjoyed very much. Highly recommended!!!
.
🍰Macadamia Salted Caramel Chocolate Tart🍰
Well, what can I say..... I just love everything that has to do with salted caramel. This tart is very chocolaty but not too sweet as the sweetness is balanced out by the salty taste.
.
🍰 Mascarpone Cake🍰
Best mascarpone cake ever!!! To my surprise, this cake was not sweetening at all. Every ingredient blended together so well that it created a happy marriage of flavours. The sweet strawberries, the light mascarpone cream, the refreshing coconut dacquoise layer and the crunchy brulee layer at the top.....so delicious!
.
🍰 Ruby's cake🍰
Perfect layers of orange scented choc mousse, hazelnut dacquoise, choc hazelnut crisp, vanilla mousse and cinnamon meringue. The thing I love about this cake is that it has so many layers of flavours and yet they blended together wonderfully in unison. I especially enjoyed the crunchy hazelnut crisp, it adds a delicate touch to the cake.

.✏️Note: four down, more to go
Feedthatbelly
THE CAKES HERE ARE ON ANOTHER LEVEL❤️❤️ love love love how the flavours of the cakes are not too sugary or overly sweet which is a problem I find in a lot of other cake shops. The cakes here are so light and fluffy that my fork just glided through them! And don't even get me started on the cream of the cake. I can rave all day about Lorraine patisserie. Literally heaven in the form of a cake.
Jessenia Jauw
The strawberry mascarpone cake is amazing!❤ I highly recommend you to try this cake💕 this cake is not too sweet and light. The mascarpone is really delicious, the crisp coconut dacquoise was crunchy, and the strawberry adds extra freshness to the cake. I will definitely go back to try another cake!
TotalAwkward
One of those places where you eat with your eyes. Almost a secret the way it's hidden in plain sight but the lovely sweet treats in the display are so tempting. I stuck with a chocolate croissant. It was buttery and flakey but adequately moist. Had the right balance of crunch and yield. Not for chocoholics. There was just enough chocolate to get a little bit in most bites.
Daniel Zhang
The flourless chocolate cake was really chocolately in a good way and was very soft and pleasant to eat. Their eclair puff was also really good and creamy with a lot of flavour
Ann
The cheesecake is a legend! Soft and gentle, with a dash of lemon flavor, tastes really good!
Also had a 6 inch chocolate cake take away. Pricey but definitely worth it.
Jasmine Sharma
Absolutely Gorgeous Cheesecake... Melting in a mouth texture.... the hint of tangy lemony tartness that perfectly marries this fluffy creamy sweetness of the cake... Ah well... All I would say is that it's a match made in heaven..... It's a small patisserie with no place to sit... But that cheesecake... I will go back for it any day even if it means that I need to sit on the street to eat it...
Leon
Lorraine's Patisserie is unquestionably the #1 bakery in Sydney. The patisserie makes several small batches of each sweet delight at various times of the day. Hence, you can taste the freshness and the crunchiness of the cakes and tarts. My favourites are the rhubarb pie and strawberry mascarpone (sold out very early).

Unlike Black Star where the Strawberry Watermelon Cake tastes like an inconvenience marriage of three separate sections (Strawberry, Watermelon slice and cake), the mascarpone cake is a holy union of pure delight.
Aileen
I tasted their strawberry mascarpone cake and it is the best strawberry cake I've tried ever!
The coconut was very good as it was crispy and taste good with the cake
The strawberries were fresh
Mascarpone cream was amazing
And every layered taste differently but matched each other! Definitely will come back and will try different cakes available
The Next Rush
I had the Mascarpone strawberry cake slice. Some of the price tags will shock you at first but work with me here because this is one of those delicately created, moan out loud kind of dessert bake places that are rare in the city and this could very well be the only answer in Sydney to the legendary watermelon cake from another place who we will not name! It's got its on thing going on and I just love the velvety texture and chopped strawberry in this – luscious!
Anna
So it seems cheesecake is their specialty, so perhaps I should have tried that? In this case I just tried a raspberry tart. It’s kinda hard to take your time deciding when it’s near closing time, the favourites are gone, and there are still people in line behind you.

The best thing about it was it stayed very true to its core flavour, but it was pretty pricey so I suppose it’s okay to expect that much as a given. Other than that, I didn’t feel the need to try it again. 😞 Perhaps something else…
Lilith Mo
Good cheesecake but it's basically a industrial kitchen with a counter so if you are looking for a place to sit down or customer service this is not the place to go.
Elisa Li
I thought I've bought something here before, but actually haven't only walked past. I was here for the signature Date Tart that I had in Rockpool (which has reopened as Eleven Bridge) earlier this year, but unfortunately they don't make it anymore. Apparently they might make it later once the menu changes or something. You can see the whole kitchen once you walk in, but in terms of standing space inside the shops probably max 4 people. There's also no seating, but I do have to give credit on their better quality cake boxes and recyclable paper bags instead of plastic.
Amanda Nguyen
I am OBSESSED with the Chocolate Salted Caramel and Macadamia tarts!

This is a cute little shop is nestled in an alley way so it makes it more exciting when you walk through to the end and see the sign.

Highly recommend trying the delicious goods there - it's a bit pricey BUT worth it.
Why__dee
Partner got me the Mascarpone Cake for my birthday and oh my goodness!!!! I highly recommend it, the mascarpone and strawberries definitely cut through the sweetness and there's a hint of coconut in there which complements so well! He got the 6 - 8 piece slice which was more than enough for 10 people! It's definitely up there with the Strawberry Watermelon Cake from Black Star Pastry.

Visited here after seeing the reviews on Zomato. Reached around 5 in the evening they didn't have much left tried the raspberry tart and the Ruby cake. The tart was good the biscuit base a bit hard after refrigerating it. The Ruby cake was lovely it was light and creamy. It's a caramel dessert but overly sweet thankfully.

Need to go back and try the mascarpone cake that this place is so famous for.
Sarahversuscarbs
The mascarpone cake with strawberries is amazing! The salted caramel chocolate tart is also delicious. I'm super keen to try the famous cheesecake - so many people say it's the best in Sydney.
Tsengee Bold
tiny place hidden in the small lane that I almost missed it. Had the mascarpone cake today it was delicious and not too creamy. Next time would like to try their cheesecake as it looked soo fluffy and yummy. Only wished they had few tables outside.
Jmanchatty
Tried the cheesecake here and it is pretty amazing. Very light and not overly creamy, one of the best cheesecakes ive eaten in sydney. Other pastries are ok but nothing standoutish imo
Thefooodgasm_
Its one of the best pastry so for and it's very affordable 👌👌 tofee & blackberry i love it not too sweet and not too plain 😊 ... I'm coming back for sure ☺ . I just need to make sure come early 'coz the products are easily run out even they close at 6:30pm . But in total its awesome for me :)
Manz
Their pastries are amazing! Beautifully presented. It is true that you eat with your eyes, when I saw them in the shop I wanted to try them all! Luckily (or unlucky) for me, I went in the afternoon, and a lot of items were already sold out, and not many selections were left to choose from. I opted for the Chocolate Eclair and the Blueberry & White Chocolate Choux Bun. The choc eclair was hands down the best choc eclair I've ever had. It was layered with different textures and variation of chocolates, with a light choc creme filling, a dark choc coating of the top pastry, and the choc coated crunchy malt balls on top. The best thing was the caramelised whole hazelnuts hidden inside the creme filling. The choux bun was great too. With a distinct red coating on top, the white choc creme was not too sweet nor heavy, and the addition of the blueberry jam inside gave it great contrast and balance. I can't wait to go back and try the rest of their offerings!
Suzy Of Sydney
I give the cherry pie a 5/5. Every mouthful was divine! I also give the passionfruit truffles a 5/5. Perfection! I can't wait to return to try all of the other delights. It's a pity there isn't an option to eat in with a pot of tea!
Eatwithmyfoodsafari
I saw this place on the must try dessert collections. I am surprised I haven't been here as located in the areas I visit. A small patisserie located near the Ivy, it had display cabinets full of beautiful looking pastries and cakes. You can even see the workers hard at work in the kitchen behind the cashier. They definitely taste as good as they look. Priced on the highish side they are definitely worth the price! The cakes I bought were Macadamia Salted Caramel Chocolate Tart, Toffee Vanilla Choux Puff, and an Eclair (it wasn't on their normal menu but tasted like Passionfruit). They taste amazing and can see why they get rave reviews.
TresHungry
An adorable, tiny bakery tucked in a quiet, hidden, narrow laneway. The perfect slices of NY cheesecake looked ever so tempting in the display cabinet, but I was advised that it should be eaten within 2 hours out of the fridge, so I ended up getting a milk chocolate macadamia brownie instead. It was extremely fudgy and gooey, with intense chocolate flavour. There were chunks of milk chocolate throughout the brownie, and there were also heaps of large macadamia pieces, providing a great crunch to every bite. An excellent rendition of a brownie!
Olive Luna
I'm impressed with their mascarpone cake! Crunchy and creamy but not overly sweet at all. I can eat this cake everyday:) I also had chocolate cake and lemon cheese cake which were both okay. I was expecting NY style cheese cake to be more rich and dense but It was fluffy like air. Chocolate cake was a bit too sweet for me, but I liked the bottom part has a different texture. I will come back here just for the mascarpone cake next time!
Helen & Michelle
Whilst the patisserie itself is very small, tucked away in a little alleyway, the desserts certainly pack a punch. The presentation is absolutely sublime and the flavour is even more incredible. Each cake is approximately $10 and which quite expensive, but I would pay for these cakes over and over again.
Johnny Pan
All the cakes here are mouth-watering in appearance. The lemon cheesecake was very soft and not too creamy as the common cheesecake, which I liked. I would highly recommend the mascarpone cake if you only had to pick one from this store.
The Weekend Foodie
Been skeptical about this place, i had a look at the menu and been avoiding burning a hole in my wallet for cakes. I caved and picked up 4 pieces for mums birthday (ended up being about $35 ... sheeeesh). Rubys cake was decadent, well balanced, smooth and just damn gorgeous. Mascarpone cake was like nothing ive had before i love the different coconut, mascarpone, strawberry and brulee layers, amazing. New york style cheesecake was so fluffy and light - i loved it!!!! Ive been hunting for the perfect rhubarb pie .. although it wasnt my favourite, it is definitely the best ive had so far. its difficult to get the buttery crust to the perfect consistency and thickness. Slightly sour compliments the sugar coated top. My mum loved everything. I wish it wasnt so expensive... but id go back again to try their other pastries, cakes etc... maybe for birthdays only.
Tortuguita Comiendo
Today we stopped by this patisserie on the way back to work and I have to say it was a very good decision. The passionfruit éclair I had was to die for.
The RnB Diary
Open plan kitchen where you can see the making of exquisite desserts. Ordered salt caramel chocolate tart and choux puff. Former was very sweet but couldn't really taste salt, half was enough. The cream puff on the other hand was very fluffy and light, I could have more than one.
Matchachacha
First visit last week, it was 38 degrees so had to skip the famous Mascarpone cake & buy only what would survive the heat.

- Rhubarb pie: the best of the lot, good pastry, tart fruit filling (could've been more of it though), crunchy sugar top

- mini raspberry cake: cute looking, round & pink decorated with rose petals, but tasted very ordinary

- Franjipane tart: well made though very sweet (think I prefer the almond slice from Becasse)

- pork & fennel sausage roll: better than the average sausage roll but nowhere near Bourke St Bakery's version

- beef pies: big & substantial, good pastry, tasty though uneven filling (mostly gravy & 1 huge bit of meat) & too much gristle, overall I've had much better

Plus: the person serving was pleasant with none of the posh cake shop attitude & took a lot of care boxing & wrapping everything

Minus: 6 items were nearly $50 & if I loved them that'd be worth the occasional splurge. However the only one I'd maybe get again would be the Rhubarb pie, if I could get over the idea of $9.50 for a smallish fruit pie... Bakery prices are crazy in this town.

So this time, nothing really nailed it. I might give this place another chance one day & try some of the softer creamier cakes.
SheWhoMustNotBeNamed
The cheesecake and chocolate tart is heavenly - decadent and smooth.
Reasonable price, convenient location near Wynyard; and friendly staff.

The mascarpone bake has topped the strawberry watermelon cake to be my favourite cake in sydney! Highly recommend! It was so fresh and flavours all went super well together, impressed and well worth the 9bucks for an occasional treat :)

Forget drops of heaven when you can get blocks! I often go to Lorraine's for pie or sausage roll for lunch but today their MASCARPONE CAKE blew me away!

The thick rich fragrant creamy mascarpone engulf the senses when you first open the box and then each bite will melt your heart away! If you happen to pick up a strawberry in your bite then lucky you! The crunchiness of the crispy coconut dacquoise adds an extra layer of texture to the cake that is the perfect combination with the creaminess of the mascarpone. The cake is not too sweet but perfectly balanced. Give this cake a go you will not regret!!!
Vanessa Iskandar
Love the mascarpone cake! A must try! I am a big fan of coconut , and the coconut daquoise amazed me . Gotta try the cheesecake next time . They should expand and make a cafe :)
Princess_Porky
That strawberry and mascarpone cake. Oh em gee. I'll admit that everything I've had at this place is amazing but there's really no need to go beyond the strawberry and mascarpone. Game over. Seriously the best cake. I have yet to try the infamous date tart but that's coz they rarely bake it and when they do, there's a darn 3 hour queue! No doubt I'll never get to try that one. But no problemo. I'm more than happy with the strawberry and mascarpone!!!
Kai Luv
As inviting as the sweet offerings look, I have never actually tried them. I have however bought beef pies from here a couple of times. The pastry is rich and buttery and flaky, and the meat filling is generous and substantial.
It's CAKe Time
The Top Line: Being located in an alleyway doesn’t stop CBD crowds from flooding the place. It’s niche, it’s fancy, it’s range and stock is limited and it’s hot in demand. The Review: I found many treasures in Lorraine’s just by looking around the bench tops and around the walls.
La Petite Bobo
Great little patisserie hidden away in the middle of the city. The cakes are delicious and very different to the usual bakery. It's great to have a patisserie in the city! I personally did not like the flourless chocolate, but the mascarpone cake and Ruby's cake are both yum!
Khana
Part of the Merivale Group, Lorraine’s is a cute little patisserie located near Wynyard Station. On a cold afternoon, on our way home from university, we decided to take a mini detour for a short dessert.
Let's Nomnom
Everytime I visit this store, I still havent got chances to try their best selling mascarpone cake..
This time I got Ruby Cake, Chocolate Croissant and Wagyu Beef Pie.. Both croissant and pie were flaky and light and the cake was so delicate and bursted in chocolate and hazelnut flavour.. It reminded me of eating Ferrero Rocher in the form of a delicate and complex cake..
Jason Lee
Cute little patisserie in Ivy which is quite popular. Decided to try the macadamia chocolate tart, and it satisfied my sweetooth easily. The Vanilla puff was great but preferred it without the crunchy caramel top, reminded me of Chinese emperor's puff. The Dino cookie was a nice chocolate hit too! Will be back for the popular strawberry mascarpone.
Invidiaz
Located in a little alley down between an optometry and a clothing store, this shop isn’t overly visible from the outside, but it sure is rather well known for their lovely cakes and pastries. These delicious pics are taken from 3 separate visits. I would love to have had them all at one go, but my co-worker stopped me, right now I think I’m on a diet of some kind, probably one that doesn’t involve cake as one of the food groups unfortunately.
Bw_betman
I actually spoke to Lorraine and only realised afterwards!! The strawberry mascarpone was amazing! The rhubarb pie and cheesecake were nice too - I'll be back for sure.
Petitepatissiereblog
There may be cakes out there which claim to be ‘light’, but this is it, this IS light. The sponge in between is fluffy, the mascarpone cream cheese in between the cake is so airy and light. Together, sandwiching the sweet and sour strawberries make this such a refreshing treat! In addition, the crunchy caramel on the top layer along with the icing sugar just tops this all off and make this one of the best cheesecakes I’ve ever had (note: I am very partial to light desserts). I will definitely revisit when I

YUM. Delicious chocolate croissants, some of the best I've had. Very friendly staff too, and in a very cute location.

After an embarrassing moment where my fellow stomach Liz and I almost ambled into The Cupcake Bakery thinking it was Lorraine’s, we made our way down Paling’s Lane and into the warmth of the little patisserie. It was a beacon in the darkening flood of night, a siren call of sugar in a sea of peak-hour traffic-induced hopelessness. There was not a cupcake in sight, although a lone muffin tempted me with its crusty golden shell. Oh crisis of the first (world) degree though! Gone was the famous Date tart that I had so set my hopes on along with Marscapone Cake and Kalamansi Cake. Casting a forlorn gaze at the offerings placed in front of us, I couldn’t help but feel a twinge of disappointment. What remained was still beautiful, a decadent display of brownies and croissants, but it was a little safe for my wacky tastebuds.

This New York Cheesecake by Lorraine’s Patisserie was definitely great value for 1 token. Such a large piece and rather delish.

Their Mascarpone cake is a must try.. $8 for a slice of this heavenly light and fluffy cake with crisp coconut daquoise layer, its just a perfect combo for a dessert. Located in Palings lane within Ivy bar, its quite hidden but not hard to find :)

In the CBD area and craving for refreshing cakes, but Black Star Pastry's strawberry watermelon cake is too far? Look no further, Lorraine's Patisserie has the perfect competitor for the infamous watermelon cake: the strawberry mascarpone cake. Despite it's hidden location in Palings Lane, this patisserie definitely serves fine pastries. Baked freshly in the shop, you will be coming back for more! ----- Strawberry Mascarpone Cake - mascarpone layered with crisp coconut dacquoise and sliced strawberries (AUD 8.00/slice) *they also sell it whole, for more info click here * This is best served chill out of their display fridge. In my opinion, this cake was flawless. It has a great texture from the creamy, slightly sweet mascarpone, with the refreshing strawberries and the crisp, slightly chewy coconut dacquise. None of the element overpowers the other and therefore, you can taste everything from the coconut, strawberries and the mascarpone cream. Oh, and don't forget the brulee-d top. my

Small atelier style patisserie, authentic and unique French cakes and savoury pastries. It is quite expensive but the quality is consistency good, that's the price to pay?

I’m just going to put it out there. If there was a heaven for dessert aficionados like you and I, this event would be it. Hands down; one of the greatest visual and culinary displays I’ve ever been privileged to witness. Get ready to indulge.
Feasting In The Know
Lorraine’s Patisserie is in a magical laneway off bustling George Street. Look up and you’ll see Forgotten Songs, a whimsical installation of bird cages. From there, follow your nose to baking smells wafting from Palings Lane.
We were pretty full by that stage, so instead of having our desserts there we picked them up downstairs at Lorraine’s to take with us. Great little space with a fully open kitchen so you can see exactly what’s going on, and everything nicely on display.

The place itself is quite small with about a 2 metre by 1 metre area for customers to stand in. MDS and I found it quite cramped with all our winter baggage, maneuvering around eachother’s bags, umbrellas and coats to try to have a peek into the pastry cabinets and check out what was on the trays.

Merivale’s #JustDesserts is back for another round of sugary sensory overload. Held at the Establishment, Just Desserts showcases the sweet treats across venues from the Merivale Group: Lorraine’s Patisserie, Mr Wongs, Est, MsGs, Bistrode CBD, Functions & Events at Merivale and the Establishment Bar making espresso Martinis.

We each tried a piece of the delicious looking brownies from Lorraine's Patisserie after our 2 hour-long feasting across the different stores. The brownie consisted of macadamia nuts spread throughout it, as well as dark and milk chocolate pieces. It wasn't as rich as I usually like my brownies to be, but it was still delicious in that the texture of the crunchy top and bottom contrasted with the lighter brownie centre well.

Marshmallows and chocolate truffles were equally delicious, and just completely moreish!

...the peach Melba was my favourite - somewhat surprisingly as the cassata was nice and chocolaty.

Lorraine's is a smooth and quiet engine. The shopfront is a tenth shop and nine tenths open kitchen. All manner of anything sweet, besides most notably macarons, appear on the menu. Cakes, tarts, even marshmellows, brownies composed of seasonal fruits, you name it, take centre stage here all on display although there are other pastries that make guest appearances on other days.
Hidden away from the hustle and bustle of George Street is a little patisserie named after its owner, Lorraine. Lorraine Godsmark used to work as head pastry chef alongside Neil Perry for 10 years and with that experience, she then opened two other cafes in the years to come until she joined the Merivale Group, where she is now head pastry chef of Palings Kitchen & Bar and Lorraine's Patisserie. The place is not huge but functional and not one where you order, sit down and wait to be served. It is all to-go here, which we do not mind, really. Who would when the pastry here is absolutely delectable? The Rosebud Marshmallow ($2.50) intrigued us, as it was the first time we saw gluten-free marshmallow. We bought a bag of these rosewater and raspberry marshmallow with raspberry jelly dipped in dark chocolate. We found it just average perhaps more due to the fact that our tastebuds are not used to gluten-free food than it being not tasty. On a personal note, I

The Queens Birthday long weekend saw us jet setting over to good ol’ Sydney for a mini gastronomical foodie crawl around the CBD. Ahhhh, it was so good to be back! The fast paced moving lifestyle, tall buildings and people navigating their way around the city with a purpose gave me flashbacks of my time in NYC . I can definitely see why Sydney siders always compare the two. We were there for a handful of days and our itinerary was filled with foodie spots and a touch of shopping; I’m still recovering from my USA trip! >. The red eye flight allowed us to avoid the early morning peak hour crowd whilst we pondered around the city. Comfortable shoes were a must! I thought my comfy looking flats would be sufficient but I underestimated them and as a result, a quick pit stop was made at the closest convenient store so I could pad my feet up in bandaids! Heh! Ham and cheese croissant; $5.00 We pondered around The Ivy and after turning down an alleyway, we came upon a small corner patisserie:

D E C A D E N C E. The Latin root of decadence means "to fall down," and the Flourless Chocolate Cake from Lorraine's Patisserie could potentially make you do just that.

I expected this cake to be heavy, dense and extremely rich, the type of cake you can only manage a small slice of. I could not be more wrong. What I tasted was light and airy and almost mousse-like in texture - The type of cake that has you begging for seconds before you finish your first bite. This semisweet cake is definitely one for the dark chocolate lovers of the world.

A small cake ($22) is the perfect amount for four.

Great cakes, terrible service!. All i can say is great cakes and pastries but the service that comes with it is terrible.

Pre-payed for a large order, told the girl i did this the week before, she then asks me for the money: Hello, A: why are you not listening and B: Why didn't the previous girl stamp 'paid' on your copy!

Second time, lining up (only one in front of me being served), waited 10 minutes onto to be told they didn't have what i needed. A polite 'won't be long' wouldn't kill the staff and what was with the 6 pastry chefs in the background? Can one of them acknowledge a waiting customer? And... would it hurt for anyone to crack a smile there?

Excited to try. Warm staff, great treats

Customer Service. Wow, quite easily the best customer service I've received in quite some time. The shop had run out of their delicious sausage rolls so the sales assistant actually left the shop and went to The Ivy (a local re-seller) on my behalf just so I didn't miss out on sausage roll for tea. it's this sort of service that will have me returning time and time again.
