Review The White Horse - Sydney

Came in Happy Hour before the swans game and it exceeded my expectations by alot. Would highly recommend, $1 wings on a Friday and $6 happy hour drinks. The food was so good and the Parmi was unreal. decent atmosphere with good music. Excellent staff and bar service.

Bar staff are purely lazy - would rather say new customers are drunk than serve them an hour out from closing because they can’t be bothered taking business from new patrons. No problems, walked a minute down the street to the other pub. Won’t be back.

Really don’t know why more pubs don’t do Veggie Parmies. These guys do and they nail it every time. Chuck in one of the best tap lists in Surry Hills, a great outdoor area upstairs and loud rock playing all day and you’ve got yourself a crackin pub

Not the best place in Surry Hills, not a big variety of beers, the food is nothing special. There is nothing wrong with the place, but there are much better options around Surry Hills on the same price range.

Ridiculous venue. They served us a shot than then said we could have another drink and kicked us out! We came from a 30th? First drink for most girls so silly. Poor RSA

Absolute atmosphere plus friendly staff and patrons definately on my books for an creative game of pool or 2 and an exquisite jug of beer

Great pub. Simply one of the best place you could visit in surry hills. Great selection of craft beers, cheap food deals (i went on monday - 50 cent wings and it was quite unique).

I went here on a Saturday night for dinner and drinks with friends.  I had the chicken schnitzel with chips and gravy. The chicken was well cooked and juicy. Chips were tasty and well salted. I also enjoyed the gravy but could have had more ($2 extra).  I would visit this place again as there was a vast selection of food on the menu and boutique brewery beers on offer.

The Horse is one of Surry Hills’ iconic pubs, first opening in 1930 as The White Horse Hotel. The pub was refurbished in 2004 with a new bar and a brasserie, and the very recognisable rooftop silver stallion.

We went here after seeing a picture on instagram that they had slayer beer literally a day after the picture was posted but were super disappointed that they had none when we got there. <br/>They didn't remember having the beer even though the picture was shown.<br/>Anyway, the service was good and we were happy enough to try something else so 4 out of 5 is good enough to give to these guys. <br/>would definitely go and visit again. <br/>In a nice location and the prices were pretty fair.

Quite a noisy bar but easily some of the best pub good in Sydney. They have a great chicken and sides menu with succulent roast or pulled chicken with a range of sides including an amazing cauliflower salad, Brussel sprouts with pancetta and truffled Mac n cheese. Yum! V well priced and delish. Would recommend.

Good quality food, but also quite expensive. Some burgers cost upwards of $25 for instance.<br/><br/>Stick to the weekday specials and your wallet will be better for it.

Chicken and Sons Surry Hills is a Sydney institution of chicken and burgers. Chef Adam is truly a Sydney Chef/ Burger personality and his fine dining background adds a level of nuance that elevates the venues from the norm. If you live in Surry Hills or don’t mind some travel hit them up for the roast dinner on a Sunday and if you like decent burgs then get to any of their locations stat! This joint cooks chicken with love, care and a hellava lotta salt. I came to Surry Hills following rave reviews of its Chatswood Chicken and Sons counterpart. Whether it was the weather, the day (Sunday) or just a bad run, I didn't have the best experience. Service was really slow and goddam, my free range chook and chicken wings- whilst cooked to perfection and were the right combo of crunchy and tender, were Dead Sea salty. The upside was the side dish , a masterfully created coleslaw with a delicious sauce. It's definitely one of the best coleslaws I've had in Sydney. My friend ordered the fried chicken burger and it was mentioned that it was tasty and crunchy. Perhaps the chef had it in for me that day :). I'll be back again because the menu provided many options and I'm a hopeful patron with a love for chicken ( particularly loved the extensive hot and cold sides portion of the menu and Sunday roast). Don't let me down Surry!

During one of the hot summer days, MW seemed really hungry and eager to check out a new burger joint. I suggested Chicken and Sons in Surry Hills. The White Horse Pub hosts the venue for Chicken and Sons. Chicken and Sons also has locations in Chatswood and Leichardt. . MW and I arrive promptly at 12pm and it looks like we're the first at The White Horse.  It's too early for me to drink booze so I opt for a cola and Matt goes for a beer. ...The burger wasn’t cheap – well north of $20, but realistically it was at least 2 if not three reasonably sized burgers in one. It was pretty difficult to actually take the first bite – but being the professional that I am, I gave it a red hot crack and almost dislocated my jaw – first up you notice the Two buttermilk, double fried chicken fillets, crunchy and yet still amazingly tender and juicy, with just a hint of some spice. This burger is all about the chicken...

One of the best burgers in Surry Hills! We had a beef brisket and spicy chicken, both were almost perfect! Chips don't come with the burger (feel like that's almost blasphemy), honestly the only downside. Will be back and back and back.

Amazing Sunday roast! I would definitely recommend the food here! So good. I think it's just changed owners as it didn't used to be this good!

2nd visit ;  Hit and Miss but the hits are very good. Salmon main was great. Chicken burger great. Beef burger not so good. Roast Carrot side was very good.  Beans,chorizo,brisket burnt ends side was amazing,  Sadly the smoked chicken was average .....no smokey taste at all...pretty sure it was just a plain maryland baked in the oven with no spices or seasoning - I make better at home - a real shame<br/><br/>1st visit :   Friendly as staff....always a must at a pub. Girlfriends chicken burger was amazing....she eats chicken burgers all over n this is her all time favorite. Sons quarter chicken n chips were good too. I got the brisket n side of lentil dish . lentils were quite plain healthy flavour....I liked them though. Brisket was not as soft as expected....nice layer if yummy fat and great sauce but not really smoked bbq flavours.

Place is great but the buttermilk chicken was woeful. Way too much batter that falls off as soon as you touch it and barely any meat on the chicken. Not a great meal

The C&S takeover brought me here. Went during lunchtime so there wasn't much of a wait which was good. <br/>Ordered : Sweet potato fries ( $9),  The truffle Mac n Cheese ( $14) , The Big Bird ( $22) + $3 for beer battered fries , and ordered the 1/4 smoked chook ($8) <br/><br/>The sweet potato fries were pleasant, but not really stand out. They came with an aioli sauce but it was a bit too tangy, i wish it had a bit more kick like the sauce at Belly Bao. <br/>The big bird burger, the  buns were decent and the large size was quite perfect for an instagram moment however it became difficult to eat. The chicken fillets inside the burger were cooked quite well, and were juicy and delicious unlike other places. However the lettuce on the burger tasted bitter, which surprised me and the burger was overfilled with lettuce - i presume to give the burger more height. I'm not sure if i would pay $22 for the same burger again, it was better than kfc burger thats for sure however perhaps not up to the expectation of a burger of that price. <br/>The beer battered fries, some were cooked well but others had a sandy taste to them. <br/>The smoked chook was quite nice, it wasn't dry at all and  cooked well throughout. It came with a spicy sauce which was nice. The piece given was quite generous as well. I would buy it again. <br/><br/>The truffle mac n cheese was a bit of a disappointment. I thought it would have a crispy coating on the top and have a more cheesy taste. After a few bites of eating i felt lethargic. I didn't taste that much cheese in it as well. It was macroni pasta covered in a watery cheese sauce. Perhaps this was because i got the mac n cheese as a take-away option. <br/><br/>The service at the venue was good, the staff were quite friendly. <br/><br/>If you plan on getting take-away, they give the food in boxes but don't have takeaway bags.

Not sure what the kitchen was like before the C&S takeover recently but I'm gonna take a stab and say its improved tenfold. This was their bacon week special - and against my own better judgement ordered it with the Carolina reaper sauce 😫🔥 shame. I know had it have just been a standard smokey BBQ it would have been out of this world. Service and staff were exceptional.

One of my favourite pubs, upstairs terrace is perfect for Sunday beers and cocktails - the staff are friendly and service is great. The owner isn't too bad on the eyes either! Food menu is pretty extensive and not overpriced

I went back once just to check out the new White Horse.  It was a complete overhaul, the dated tired old pub was replaced by some funky interior design and inviting bar area.  We sat at the end of the bar facing Crown street, the service was attentive and friendly, the drinks were good.  It was a huge improvement from the old pub.

Oh sliver fox where have you been my entire life?! It's gorgeous peppery drink with the perfect amount salt around the rim. My new summer cocktail. Liked it so much I stayed for dinner. As you can see from the pic it's s bit fancy but prices ($22 for parmi) are absolutely worth it for the food & location. The place runs with the motorbike theme and there is plenty of seating areas and comes with a pool table. Plus located right next to gelato Messina 😍

Amazing down-to-earth bar!. I had a booking at The White Horse for Saturday night and despite the horrible weather and my parties' lateness - the team at The White Horse were able to accommodate us. There was no hesitation, no attitude... they were so friendly, so nice and so fun. They made what I was going to assume a very bad birthday dinner to an amazing one! I would like to commend the team for their individual personalities and service. Drinks, food, atmosphere was amazing! Definitely would recommend The White Horse to everyone!

So-so. Groovy looking joint with friendly service and reasonable prices, but food was slow to arrive and unremarkable.

Highly recommend. My daughters 30th birthday was held at the White horse last night, we all were made incredibly welcome last night, staff are very polite, helpful, and very well organised, they went out of there way to help us all from organising room terrace for us to help with balloons, and cake,thank you all so much, we would definitely recommend, keep up the great work.

Awesome just plain awesome. This place is just cracking - the upstairs bar is beautiful and lots of fun - great food and fresh cocktails. Downstairs is fun and vibey - I just love it

DEEP FRIED MARS BAR... and it just gets better!!. Massive and amazing change to an iconic venue! Upstairs for Lady Godiva is beautiful and the perfect atmosphere to hang with the girls or on a cute chilled date! Food downstairs is incredible, especially that crazy dessert with the deep fried mars bar! ummm hellllooooo heaven!! Strongly recommend this place for anyone and everyone, meets every kind of need for any kind of night out! Be seeing you again guys!! Love your work!

Friendly staff. Such a great venue! Love coming here for a drink on the terrace and a delicious meal! The staff are so friendly and always makes me feel very welcomed. Great job guys!

Amazing transformation. The transformation of this pub is amazing, not only are the staff helpful and talented but the fitting of the place is excellent.. you can choose to be relaxed downstairs and get a beer from the tap or a cocktail upstairs! They also have cocktails downstairs<br/><br/>Try it out!!

Great Bar!. Excellent cocktails and food. Wide range of whiskey's. New management are really doing something right!

My new go-to bar!. I visited The White Horse on the weekend and was greeted at street level by a superbly decorated American biker style bar with top craft beers and a huge selection of Whisky. My drinks were made with meticulous care and the food menu is extensive, I opted for the scotch fillet and it was first class. Upstairs is like walking into a high end cocktail bar, lots of white spirits, an awesome cocktail menu with an awesome space outside to smoke or watch busy Crown St from the patio. I’ll be back to check out the live music on Wednesday!
