Review Basax Korean Chicken And Dining - Sydney

Both the oven and fried chicken were yummy! Very crispy , flavourful and generously portioned. Fish cake hot pot was ordinary, but not bad. The beef tendon was super soft and was nice for a cold night. Service was prompt and ordering was easy. Very happy with our meal and will be back.

Food is very delicious. Second time going there and we ended up very full again. Not the best restaurant to go if you are on a diet. :) It is always quite busy, so we booked a table beforehand. Staff is quite friendly and kind. When we booked the table we were asked to leave the table free within 80min. We ended up being there for almost 2 hours though.

Pretty decent Korean restaurant that serves all the usual dishes you'd expect like hot pot, Korean rice cake and fried chicken. The food was on par with other neighbouring Korean restaurants and nothing particularly stood out. Serving sizes were fine but I would have liked it if they were a little bit bigger. The restaurant gets very busy and if you are part of a group, make sure everyone has arrived otherwise staff won't let you in

First day in Aussie and most of the cafes were closed by evening. Thankfully, we chance upon Basax round the corner near our hotel and they unexpectedly serves really good fried chicken. As a tourist, we went back to Basax once more during our 3 days in Sydney. Good stuff!

Can’t wait to return with a couple of friends! Matt and I had a little date night and enjoyed boneless chicken with a range of sauces. We opted for soy garlic, sweet & chilli, spring onion and snow cheese. It comes with waffle fries too!🤤 I’ve recently fallen in love with tteokbokki so we had to order cheese tteokbokki! Obviously we didn’t finish the whole thing so got the leftovers to go! Lunch sorted for the next day 👍🏼

Enjoyed the food, nice non traditional themed interior, but authentic food. A lovely young lady working there ran after us because i had forgotten my glasses in the restaurant. We ordered this chicken plate (52$) for two people (with empty stomachs) and weren’t able to finish it. Might be a bit pricy for some, but the portions are nice, would visit again.

i like the odeng soup♥️ friendly staff, food coming so fast! the side dish also yummy! love the kimchi and pickle radish so amazing!!!

Very nice and cozy restaurant, the staffs were welcoming and the service was amazing. Especially the tall and big-eyed staff, she was really kind and energetic. Gotta mention the foods there!! The best chicken in the city!! I will visit again!

Loved the environment, and service. Food was absolutely delicious and worth the price ! Highly recommend the bulgogi and hotpot. Definitely come back again

Took and confirmed booking. Then when arrived, did not honour booking and claimed they 'cancelled' the booking. Received zero communication about this. Showed confirmed booking receipt and ignored. Rude staff. They also seated other customers without bookings. Don't bother.

Impressive dining with excellent fried chicken.

Highlights:
• Spicy Boneless Fried Chicken
• Cream & Onion Boneless Fried Chicken

Cons:
• Tteokbokki was not up to traditional standards

I’ve been here many times and always bring my friends here because it is worth it. For sharing, i always choose korean fried chicken and hotpot. They also have special lunch menu which are also great. I definitely will comin there regularly ❤️

Order:
1. Lunch special Boneless Soy Garlic
2. Lunch special Boneless Sweet and Spicy
3. Lunch special Boneless Snowing Cheese
4. Udon
5. Bulgolgi rice cake

Service was quick and easy. Food arrived very fast. When price was split between 5 people, it was quite cheap altogether.

The lunch special came in plates of half chicken and the other half fried “chips”. The sauce served with it was delicious. The chicken itself was quite juicy, although the portion size was smaller than expected.

Udon was good, but serving size was quite small. Probably enough for one person as a meal. The bulgogi rice cake was great, good change from the normally spicy rice cake.

I ordered noodle rice cake and half size chicken for a take a way. I paid full price of the food. When i check the food, there was not noodle and they gave me wrong food. They said just eat. They get more money than i ordered!!!

Best fried chicken that I’ve ever had in Sydney!
Very nice price for the lunch menu.

Their snowy cheese chicken and soy sauce chicken were so good! Extra points for boneless & the waffle chips!
The noodles were really good as well, there was tteokbokki and fish cakes in it. It’s not spicy at all, which was what I wanted!

Not suitable for groups. We have six people and booked several days ago. They won’t allow you to seat because 1 or 2 friends are on the way. Luckily, we find another restaurant. We understand that rules are rules, but if you want to pre-order the menu for busy friends, think about it

A little bit on the pricier side of life, however it has a great atmosphere and everything was clean. Would definitely go again for a casual meet up or even a date as lighting is killer for cute selfies

The chicken tasted weird and didn’t like it that it tasted full of sugar. The stew was super salty. It made my stomach go all funny afterwards.

A clean, bright and cute eatery with a chill, retro ambience - not crowded when we went on a Friday night. We were greeted by friendly staff and promptly seated. Menu has a good variety of dishes and looked very appetising! We ordered the vegetarian dumplings and the spicy fried chicken with bones in, between 4 for 'pre-dinner'.

Dumplings arrived within 5 minutes, chicken within 20 minutes, but misleading menu because waffle fries come only with the boneless chicken, not chicken with bones. We were disappointed about the lack of clarity about this. Despite this, chicken was crispy, juicy and very fresh, with a good burn. Although it was spicy, it was sweet and had just the right amount of kick.

Overall, really pleasant meal, let down by misleading menu picture.

The batter on the fried chicken was softer than I like but the chicken was cooked perfectly and the soy garlic flavour was great. It was also better value than other places I’ve been to because the chicken comes with waffle fries and cabbage. They also have cheap Korean beer - although it’s cheap for a reason. Early days yet but this is currently my favourite KFC in Sydney.

I have been there two days in a row, i love the food there, especially the soy garlic boneless chickenStaffs are really friendly too, would 100% visit again

- Boneless Snowing Cheese Chicken
- Boneless Sweet & Spicy Chicken

Guys! I loved this fried chicken so much I had to go twice. Basax are famous for their fried chicken. They had such a good variety of flavour that I couldn't decide!

The snowing cheese flavour tasted a little bit like coconut but I was not complaining it tasted kinda tropical. Sweet & Spicy sauce flavour had a thick layer on the chicken which is a little bit overwhelming but I would rather that than bland. I want to go back and taste the soy garlic!

The chips and the sauce were the best complement for it too. I will take all my fried chicken fans to this place for sure! Worth your pennies!

IG Blogger: @sexual_tongue
Food Place: @basax_chicken
IG Patrons: @lyrad_lauxes

The bulgogi stew was really nice! Didn’t really Like the ham & sausage stew - would’ve liked more rice cakes in there. The service was really good.
Steven Yuniansyah Suyanto
Really good chicken and the taste of the Ham & Sausage stew soup is really beautiful. The staff here is pretty friendly as well! On top of that, we did not need to wait for really long time for our food.
If you come to Sydney, you should try this korean restaurant because it taste really beautiful.

Pretty big portions and great fried chicken :) love the fish cake hot pot as well !! :D have a great time with my bud at the place and would def come back for the other hot pots and chickens :)!

It's our first time here and we absolutely love it. Dinner arrived very promptly (all 4 dishes arrived within 15 minutes). Love the waffle chips... If you like mild spice, pick the 1 chilli option. I'll be going for the 2 chilli option next time!

Can't wait to go back. With good service, reasonable prices and delicious food, there's no reason not to go back.

Excellent food quality, great service, friendly staff, affordable and lots of vegetarian options. Cute and small place, definitely a good place for someone trying Korean for the first time.

Visited in Nov 2018. Bought a Cudo voucher to try Basax ($49.00 for $100 worth of food). Pleasantly surprised. Honestly best korean chicken out there. This place has a range of korean chicken (Soy garlic is the best in my opinion) and they also have sizes for groups and individual! And they also serve with waffle chips and salad. They also serve lunch deals from 12-3 pm on the weekdays at a reasonable price. Definitely would come here again!!!

Staff was lovely, helpful and quick. The atmosphere was comfortable and welcoming. Average pricing. They give you a big jug of water. Chopsticks aren't provided but if you ask they'll get it for you. There are forks and they give you spoons to use but my friend and I prefer using chopsticks so just ask if you want to use chopsticks instead like us haha. We went on Tuesday night and it was surprisingly quite empty so there was not need to wait which was great.

Half Fried Chicken - 4/5
The chicken was fried perfectly with great flavour and was a good morsel size. The waffle chips were satisfyingly crispy and great flavour as well. Both were seasoned well with pepper and salt. Personally, I found the chips a little too salty, 1.5x saltier than McDonalds chips for comparison. My friend found it fine though. Pepper was also quite a prominent flavour in the chicken and chips which may not be to people's preferences. The salad it came with was also quite peppery but helped balance out the heaviness of the fried chicken. You get to choose what sauce you want which was nice.

Noodle Tteokbbokki - 5/5
The sauce was very flavourful and well-rounded. The spice level was average. The tteok was satisfyingly chewy and the noodles was great. Wish there was a little more tteok and fish cake but I was sharing it with a friend and I love tteokbokki so that's just my problem haha. A well-rounded, flavourful tteokbokki dish. The egg was a nice touch.

Kimchi Stew - 5/5
This kimchi stew had a slightly different flavour profile from other stews I have had. It's hard to describe but it was predominantly sweeter and tangier. Enjoyed it quite a lot. The vegetables were fully infused with kimchi stew flavour and there's morsels of beef that were quite dry but it was cooked in a stew afterall. Rice was well cooked and fluffy.

This restaurant offers a nice variety of Korean fried chicken and other Korean dishes. We ordered a whole chicken with soy garlic chicken half and snow cheesy half. We also ordered the cheesy tteobokki which was absolutely delicious and generous for $15. The chicken was crunchy and filled with fresh and aromatic flavours. I definitely recommend the tteokbbokki and the soy garlic chicken.

Ordered a full chicken. 1 piece of chicken wasn't fresh to the point i could not eat it. 1 piece was overly salted. The rest was fine. Overall taste was not bad. The place constantly smell of ciggy smoke probably coming in from the street. The teobokki mozzarella was really good.

A great dining experience! The food was amazing, not overly greasy but perfectly juicy cooked chicken. Will definitely come back!! The service and atmosphere was really nice too

This place needs to have more people there! We have been there many times and food has always been good, from the chicken to the fries and even the lunch meals, filling and reasonable prices.
Yusuf Christian
I ordered the waffle fries, oven chicken and seafood soup for dinner. Everything was good, crispy oven chicken, crispy waffle fries and the meal set of seafood soup. More than worth for the money. Recommended!

Went there after an exam with my sister yesterday and we were really pleased by both the food and the service!:) We ordered the cheesy tteokbokki and the real oven original chicken with mayo chilli sauce and both of them tasted really nice!:) Also since we love the sauce we ordered two extra bowls of rice and when one of the staff saw that we did not have anything else to eat with the rice he kindly offered us a few side dishes, which was a pleasant surprise. Overall really happy with our first visit to the restaurant!:) Thank you guys!

Ordered boneless garlic chicken. The chips were so nice and crunchy while the salad side dish was light and delicious. However felt the sauce with the dish was slightly too much. Service was very good the staff were friendly and kind.

Great friendly service! Presentation of chicken was great! Food was fresh and the waffle fries were crispy. Staff were attentive and always greeted with a smile!

Delicious Bulgogi stew and soy garlic boneless chicken!

Fresh ingredients. I usually don't eat the salad and onions, but it was so fresh it was so yummy!

Atmosphere is cute, modern and bright. Love the plates.

Customer service was great!

Will come again. 😊

I’ve received one of the best service from a Korean restaurant. Food was delicious and prompt. Decor seems a little out of place but certainly a clean environment.

My favourite kfc place, always fresh and delicious. The soy garlic boneless chicken is definitely worth coming here for. Absolutely superb, great little spot
Alvintimoteus
We ordered sweet spicy chicken, cheese tteokbokki, and snowy cheese chicken. All taste nice but the snowy cheese taste more like shredded coconut rather than cheese. Nevertheless good place to eat.
Christine
Fantastic service! I was waiting for my friend to arrive and the dishes had already arrived, and they offered to reheat the dishes since it had gone cold before I even said anything! Lots of variety and the food was very tasty and worth the money. Will definitely come back!

Workmate and I were searching for a place to eat for lunch and this restaurant came up on EatClub. Usually not a fan of Korean food, I do love myself a fried chicken so we booked and off we went.

Greeted by a friendly server and a nice jug of cold water was brought over. Needed it as it was a scorcher of a day. Lots of booth seating available and decorated with cartoon like sayings pictures.

I went with a lunch special of Snowing a Cheese Boneless Chicken which came with Waffle Chips + Salad. Lots of crunchy pieces of fried chicken covered in dried parmesan and a balsamic type glaze. There was plenty of food to keep you satisfied. It was tasty and waffle fries were great too. My workmate had the Spicy Pork Ramen. She enjoyed it a lot as she likes spicy food and told me lots of spice was coming from the pepper in it.

first time coming here, we had the soy & garlic chicken and cheese tteokbokki, surprisingly the chicken was so tasty and the rice cake was so cheeessyy! and one more thing, i couldnt get enough of the dip cheesy sauce ! its definetly worth a revisit.

Great KFC near china town. I didn’t try the oven baked (healthier choice) chicken, but saw in other reviews it’s good. The KFC consists of a whole chicken and best shared with 2-3 people. The seafood tofu soup was pleasant as well not too spicy and super soft tofu. Great place to enjoy Korean fried chicken!

One of the best lunch I’ve had this week!
This place serving simple Korean fried chicken but done right.
Nothing can be improve, perfect as it is.
Boneless sweet and spicy chicken for myself, served with a little coleslaw and waffle fries.
Waffle fries is crunchy,, the slaw is well balanced to cut through the greasiness.
Well done!

Mmmm best Korean fried chicken I’ve had in the city! I highly recommend this joint. We got a groupon and was meant to eat in but due to poor weather conditions I wanted to get takeaway instead. The staff were very accommodating to this request despite the groupon conditions. Ordered the whole fried original chicken and the oven spicy chicken. Both of these tasted delicious.

My experience with a lot of korean joints is that the flavours are generally really whacky and taste off - I really enjoyed the flavours of these. The only downfall was it was pretty overcooked - I suspect it was because I got takeaway so perhaps it kept cooking inside the container. The chilli mayo sauce was delicious too! I’ll definitely be back here for dinner at the restaurant. Highly recommend this place.

Just stumbled into this place with a group of friends and the food was wonderful! The waffle chips were delicious and the staff were very kind and attentive. Would recommend.
Lettuce Celebrate Food
The cheesy tteokbokki was delicious and definitely satisfied my cravings. The waffle chips were so crispy! Too bad there weren't more as the three of us quickly finished them and only had 2-3 chips each. The chicken wasn't bad and will definitely go again to try their oven chicken. We also ordered the bulgogi stew which was quite flavoursome however with our other dishes, it was too much flavour. It would have been nice to have a bibimbap or something light to eat with the heaviness of the chicken and tteokbokki.

We came to eat chicken & chicken we ate! Not just your average fried chicken, their signature is actually 100% oven roasted. It surprisingly still pretty crispy. Well seasoned, all the pieces were juicy & tasty all the way through. We also tried the Sweet & Spicy BFC, oven roasted & then fried, thicker coating outside & drenched in the sauce. It was not really spicy. Delicious nonetheless. The waffle chips were great too, can't get enough of them. The down side of this meal is that it's hardly balanced, only "vegetables" were the
small bit of slaw on the side.

Had a dinner with group of friends, and that was the first time I tried Basax. It turned out that this restaurant is really good! Food was great and generous in portion and at reasonable price. We ordered the boneless chicken, snowy cheese, sweet spicy and soy garlic, and those were great. For me the best is sweet spicy, and all of the chicken is served with chips and salad! Bulgogi set was fine and tteokpoki was good as well. Service was a bit hit and miss, but overall it was a good experience! Coming back for more.

Walk pass by the pitt street and find this restaurant and wanna give it a try. We ordered their sweet and spicy boneless chicken and the lunch deal (sausage stew). And all the meal beyond my expectation! Its only written down the whole size chicken and try to ask the waiter and they actually do half size ! The stew came with rice , stew and side dishes. The half chicken came with fries and salad. Love how they put fries and salad inside the half size of chicken which is very rare. And the taste of side dishes is just 👍👍👍. Will definitely come back!!

Had the bulgogi stew lunch set. Broth was full of flavour and there was a good amount of meat in it (I.e actual proper meat, not just chopped up bits). Only downside is that it is $19... which is a bit steep for everyday lunch but I guess you get what you pay for.

Colleague had the fried chicken set and it was good too.

This is a really great restaurant for delicious juicy Korean fried chicken. I had the sweet and spicy flavour which wasn’t too spicy and the chicken itself was really well cooked. I also tried the cheese tteokbokki (rice cake) and the bulgogi (beef) stew both of which were really delicious. Happy to come back to try their other chicken flavours and dishes!!
Helen Stack
Food is pretty good but pricey. They gave 4 side dishes. We ordered the house fried chicken, soft tofu soup, bulgogi soup and tobukki with noodle. For me, nothing special for the fried chicken but all of us love the tobukki with noodle. Side dishes are so so, nothing special.

I love it when food takes you back down memory lane! I remember as kids we used to have fast-food once a week (after evening music lessons)and I remember when KFC first introduced their whole roasted chicken, and thereafter my parents never bought us Colonel Sander’s secret herbs and spices deep fried chicken anymore, but preferred this healthier option.

So is this what Basax Korean Chicken and Dining is doing to the Sydney Korean Fried Chicken scene? Creating a behavioural change from deep-fried to baked chicken goodness?

Standing out from their competitors, Basax is offering an entire menu of baked-not-fried Korean chicken, and I have to say it captures 95% of all that is good about KFC, but without all the unhealthiness of deep fried food.

Today we opted for their Basax signature baked chicken with their secret seasoning, with 2 types of dipping sauce, and also ordered the Spicy tofu stew with seafood.

As we waited for our food, we took in the restaurant’s ambience which was located in a smaller space but gave off a very modern and relaxed vibe, from the yellow schemed lounges and yellow ceilings, the Andy Warhol-esque artwork, and mellow K-pop. The cutlery was neatly placed in your stainless steel bone collection bucket; the cups and bowls were cute conical implements, although the “napkin test” only returned 2 stars as it was pretty thin and small, considering the type of food you were going to devour was more likely than not going to be eaten with your hands.

We were pleasantly surprised to be served the complementary Korean sides (although it wasn’t mentioned on the menu), so we nibbled away at our kimchi, seaweed salad, crunchy noodles in mayo, and egg omelette, until our Spicy tofu stew with seafood arrived. The pot contained silken tofu, egg, squid, prawns and clams. It wasn’t too spicy but just nice and tasty.

And when the star of our meal arrived, the serving platter on which it arrived rightfully took up the majority of our table space (see exhibit A). The whole baked chicken on the bone was perfect, each piece of chicken was coated in a light batter which was baked to a golden crisp, and because it was baked it wasn’t oily, but the outer coating was nice and dry, and the chicken inside was truly tender and juicy. Nice, nice, nice, nice! The secret seasoning was subtle, so that you couldn’t work out what was the predominant spice, but it just left a nice tingle in your mouth, and if you wanted a stronger taste, you just had to dip your chicken into one of the two sauces, the creamy orange coloured one was like a sweet mayo, while the darker sauce was like a BBQ sauce, with a hint of spice to it.

So our first experience of Korean baked chicken was a memorable one, for it’s perfectly tender flesh and crispy outer coating thus justifying a 5/5 rating from us (our first 5/5 restaurant rating), and because of its healthier nature, I’m considering bringing my parents here, when they would otherwise baulk at the idea of deep fried chicken at their age. So we’ll definitely be back with family and/or friends, so we can try more of their BKC flavours and try their waffle fries which looked delish!

Book at 4pm for 4people. There was no customer so the service was extremely quick. Everything was out in 10mins. Ordered BFC, sweet & spicy boneless fried chicken, cheese tteobokki, bulgogi stew & cider rita. Everything was delicious! Their BFC wasn't the normal fried chicken that you'll come accross on normal korea fried chicken place. Highly recommended and will definitely come back
The only downside was that i can't get in touch with them by the number provided online so i had to come to the restaurant to change my booking time

Good service. Chicken was moist and crispy. You can tell it was cooked fresh as it took a little while to come out. The seafood tofu soup was a nice balance too.
🍭 Conveniently located in the city, Basax will be my new go to place for Korean Fried Chicken!
We ordered the original Basax fried chicken, the sweet chilli and the soy garlic.
The original BFC was amazing!! Super crispy and delicious, couldn’t stop myself stuffing my face with it while alternating with the sweet chilli chicken as well. The soy garlic was alright, but definitely the star of the night was the BFC and sweet chilli.
I was super hungry during dinner and forgot to take pictures of the tteokbokki. Cheese and yummy tteokbokki, how can I resist.
They also have a happy hour promotion now that lasts till 8pm so what better to accompany fried chicken but $5 beer!
Also if you’re ordering a few sets of chicken, I would recommend getting one with the boneless option as they come with some waffle fries that is a good change to just having the whole chicken alone.
Basax is currently on Scoopon which you can get a good voucher deal on!
(sorry for the subpar quality pictures, I clean forgot to take any good ones 😪)
