Review Per Kilo Latino - Sydney

Gary L
$12 vege burrito with chips inside as well. A good lunch option . Wait is about 5 mins at lunch time. 3 eat in seats. A small section of South American products for sale as well. Staff friendly. Easy as. I asked for mild sauce, next time I'll go a bit spicier, it was a tad on the bland side, maybe some more seasoning would help. Easy walk down to darling Harbour to enjoy the views with your burrito!

I came here expecting more from the chicken burrito. It's not bad but am I going to travel to this shop when I can go to guzman and get something just as good if not just as tasty?! It was slightly disappointing on these fronts: The corn wrap itself tasted very sweet. I have a sense for sweetness! It wasn't wrapped with much ingredients as you can see from my smaller burrito which meant the wrap had so much overlap that I was basically eating a tortilla corn wrap at the end. The hot spicy sauce was sweet but it was as spicy as I would have thought. The toppings were fine, nothing spectacular and the chicken was nothing special. They do give guacamole but not much. $2 aud for additional toppings.

Can't believe it's taken me so long to get here. Awesome Mexican. I jumped straight to the chip burrito and wasn't disappointed. Really quick service, even at 1pm. Will be back asap.

This is THE Awesome Sauce in Sydney!! Fantastic food, latin tunes playing. Order in English or Spanish. Food is fantastic.

Service can be better. Typical Colombian food but they need to improve customer service

This is what a burrito place should be. Huge servings, excellent quality ingredients, super filling and well priced. I couldn't recommend this place more.
Maximiliano Mennella
I had the Mexican salad, and was great. It was really quick too, I totally recommend it.

I tried a pulled pork burrito. Delicious!

On numerous occasions in our office this place will serve vegetable instead of the requested meat. As it is common practice, I reached out to them to advise of this and by their blaze response it is evident they do this on purpose to increase revenue/reduce costs unethically. I did not want to believe this like others in my office do, but after reaching out to the company it's quite obvious so please check your orders before leaving the venue. They will not offer anything. Even the credit of meat surcharge you paid for vegetables. Its never an order error as the tags and receipts do indicate the meat ordered.

This small but popular takeaway place is located over Erskine Street.

Well managed and organised.

Good variety of food options including many vegan and vegetarian ones. Menu is quite much inspired from Mexican food.

Cordial service. Cheerful and efficient staff.

Delicious food and good quantity.

This is my favourite burrito in Sydney for a weekday lunch. It's on the lighter side compared to the likes of Guzman so I can see why people might prefer the latter but for me, the flavours are just perfect. I like the creaminess of the beans, the tenderness of the pulled pork and the flavours of the rice mixed with the sauce. It does feel like a healthier burrito which is not for everyone; it is not as heavy so it doesn't feel like it sits in your stomach for hours afterwards.

I have ordered food from here using mealpal. There is daily option to order food from per killo. Healthy food which is prepared in very less oil. Taste is ok. I didn’t like it much.
FoodieZealot
I ordered chicken burrito bowl spicy. chicken was grilled well. the black beans could have been a bit softer. guacamole was good not great. the salsa was not salsa but a bland tomato salad. no melted cheese or nachos on the top. overall not great but decent for a quick meal if you work close by

Like Guzman but blander. I’m still waiting for someone in Sydney to go the other way and do super-rich and spicy food like in Mexico, but with this place billed as South American, I should have expected it would be like how Mexican is in SA - ok but distinctly blander. Per Kilo doesn’t seem to have any of the “per kilo” offerings left and the menu is mostly burritos and tacos. The burritos are copies of Guzman’s, down to the black beans and Mexican rice, but the meat, although good, is blander and there’s none of the tangy Mexican flavours in the beans and rice. They have good corn empanadas with meat and potato inside but only one meat was available and you now have to buy 3 for $10.50, so they’re not suitable for a snack.

Coffee is nice and strong, and they have good selection of cakes, and all sort of Mexican food, such as tacos and burritos.
I did try Picollo with cake, I am very happy with it.
Forgot to take pic of their burritos, i ordered their breakfast burritos and it was yummyy! They are definitely not stingy with the omelette, the flavour wasnt too strong (sour cream&hot sauce) and its just perfect to eat it for breakfast. Service was very friendly and fast, always smiling when explaining everything, love to get that kind of service in sydney, since its rare.

Pro

Fresh and Clean

Cons

1. Tried 2 different dishes both average

2. Beef, tasteless, chewy, watery

3. Grilled Chicken … ok but not delicious

4. Black Beans – lacked flavour

5. Asked for hot sauce – I did not taste the sauce or the hotness at all

6. One of the dish Corri – came with ‘Salad’ I don’t consider a little bit of chopped lettuce leaves salad.

7. Guacamole – if you are going to charge extra $2.50 well than learn how to make a lean mean Guacamole! Your version of watery avocado with a tonne of salty tomatoes and few onions doesn’t cut it. To be precise your Guacamole looked like tomatoes’ covered in some sort of green juice like snort! I did not see or taste avocados now that’s what I paid $2.50 for not this rubbish that was slapped in my container!

8. Pricey for what you get! Most other places selling similar cuisine give cheese/salsa/sour cream/coriander etc standard you guys charge for it. My lunch order coming in at $16.50 - $18 is steep guys for something that is not finger licking good.

9. Good word in an office will spread and you will gain more customers

10. Bad word in an office spreads too … you will lose customers.

This Latin eatery is on Erskine Street. Came here for breakfast and tried their Breakfast Burrito Deal which was a burrito filled with scrambled eggs, beans, and onions. I also added bacon which was an additional cost of $2.50. This pushed the cost of the deal quite a bit higher. It wasn’t as large as I expected it to be but still tasted good. It came with a small orange juice as well. Service was quick this morning.

If you are craving for some authentic Colombian food then Per Kilo is it. I have been there a few times for lunch and it always hits the spot. They also have downstairs seating area so there's plenty of spaces to sit. It is self serve, so the more you add to your plate, it will weigh more therefore the more you will pay. This plate of food was $14.

A fairly regular lunchtime customer, however portion sizes seem to have dropped since the re-vamp and ingredient quality has declined. Disappointing to say the least!

Went for lunch today and ordered the chicken nachos. Freshly made so waiting a little while was worth it.

The chicken was char grilled with nice spices. Black beans and a nice sauce with wholesome large corn chips. Sides were guacamole and a tomato salsa, both tasted great.

I'm going back for sure!
The Weekend Foodie
Came here for lunch during work with colleagues. This place is packed every lunch. Its similar to mero mero and guzman but in lunch box form.

The service was good, we were mesmerised by the ir Spanish accents. I ordered a chicken burrito (spicy), the chicken was tender and the burrito came with a kick, boy was it spicy! Next time i am getting medium.

My on criticism is that there wasnt any cheese in my burrito :(

My colleagues ordered beef nachos, delicious but again not enough cheese, i feel that it should be sprinkled generously on top or in its own container section. My other colleagues ordered soft tacos, came in 4 mini soft tacos - there was not enough soft tacos to eat all the fillings.

I would go back to try a few other things on the menu.

Very nice mexican food. Good for work-time lunch. Staff is also very friendly. One of my regular lunch-time places. They serve very tasty veg. buritos.

I've always seen such a crowd outside this tiny little store until finally, curiosity got the best of me. There was a short wait and i ordered a chicken box with mild sauce. Thinking it'd be small I was pretty awestruck when I was handed a large box full of grilled chicken, rice, black beans and salad.
The chicken was moist and charred wonderfully on the outside. I just wish I got hotter sauce because the mild sauce was a little on the sweet side.
Supported by the soft rice and black beans, with salad to break the texture. This lunch was well worth the $10.
I probably consider is some of the highest value for money that I've had for lunch, apart from a big bowl of laksa.
I'll definitely be back ! Next time for hotter sauce
Will Eat Yum
Great takeaway mexican place. I got a voucher for essentially half price burrito (pork) and the size of it was quite substantial. My colleague got beef and chicken said the beef was better (beef is $2 more other meats). Recommended lunchtime takeaway.

Really great place but for takeaway or delivery during lunch (not eat-in) as the place is tiny.

Only MEGA disappointment is the hard boiled egg mashed through the guacamole. Yucky. Really kills it for me.
Jmanchatty
Love the burrito here especially the chicken burrito

Always upgrade for extra meat and its best when its cheap burrito day. Prices went up a bit but its a heaps good feed and fills you up. Onble of the better value for money places to eat in the city

Deinitely go spicy
Tortuguita Comiendo
One of my favourite places for a burrito. Tasty fillings and you can adjust the level of spiciness you can tolerate. Beware - the really hot level will have you sweating. This time I thought I'd try something new - The Corrientzao - a traditional Colombian lunch. It did not disappoint. The chargrilled chicken was juicy and full of flavour along with the old goodies of black beans, garlic rice and tomato, onion and lettuce salad. Highly recommended.
Featured Eats
South American goodness in the heart of Wynyard. You can either order a pre-configured box/burrito, or fill your own box and be charged by weight. The cassava chips, fried plantain, empanada and guacamole are my favourite items here and they keep me coming back.

Colombian buffet goodness. I had been wanting to try Per Kilo for a while, in part lured by the crowds that always seem to be assembled outside it. In this instance the popular vote was right on the money. They do a really good buffet selection of Colombian specialties, which were super tasty. I can still feel the little zing in my mouth. I tried a few different things - tortilla, black beans, beans with pork, patatas bravas, guacamole, salsa - which I really enjoyed. If you are vegetarian this could be a great option, as there are a lot of interesting non-meat items in the buffet.
Chilli Feli
Authentic Colombian food with a cool pay-by-weight concept at $2.5/100g. There's a hot buffet and a salad bar with a good selection, note the meat is served by request from behind the counter. I tried the arepa, slow cooked beef, spiced rice, lentils and salad. They had a super hot sauce which gained my tick of approval. Would be back to try their cheese bread and empanadas!

A great place for lunch if you work in the city. The made-to-order burritos and lunch boxes are delicious, but if you have less time or want to choose your portion size, the abundant buffet options are also fresh and delicious. The beans and pulled pork are so good! It's a great option if you only want a small lunch,or if you are trying to keep healthy by eating more beans and veggies. The fresh juices are also worth a try.

Ever find yourself being indecisive and staring at the menu trying to pick between about 4 favourite dishes while the waiter impatiently taps his pen on the notepad waiting for you? Fortunately, you wouldn't find yourself in that situation at Per Kilo. Lunch is served buffet-style - but you pay by weight! Only pay for what you can and want to eat, I think it's amazing and reduces the food waste that happens commonly with buffets at a set price. The theme here is Mexican, and in the case you don't like anything the buffet has to offer (no one wants to be friends with you in this case), you may order from their set menu which includes Nachos, Burritos, Rice dishes, etc. They open for a mere 3 hour period from 11:30am for lunch, and inside, it is absolutely packed with office workers on their lunch breaks and those ordering takeaway. I suggest you come early if you want to experience eating inside the restaurant. If not, you can grab the 'takeaway' container and pay by weight anyway! The

Last time I went for lunch with Sebastian in the city I noticed this little place announcing South American food very, very close to my office. It took as a while to get to it but finally made it. Per Kilo is essentially a canteen where you pay by weight. Unlike some canteens in Lima, these guys use paper plates so you don’t end up paying for the heavy crockery. They do have a menu with prices per item but eating “per kilo” is the way to go for people like me, who like variety on their plate. In the veggie/sides station they have some regular salad items (beetroot, mixed leaves, coleslaw, tomatoes, cucumber, roasted eggplant, etc.), guacamole, pico de gallo, condiments, etc. In the mains station they have beans, chilli, empanadas, potatoes, fried plantains, fried yuca (cassava), Spanish omelette, paella, etc. Veggies, sauces Meats, beans I piled up my plate with veggies, fried plantains, one empanada, Spanish omelette and meat from the grill (chicken and minute steak). As it happens of

Love your work guys !! Gracias :) recomendadisimo!

A weighted lunch. New concept that all food is paid by kilo ($2.5/kg) yet found it not cheap. I had paid mine for $12.9 and another $3 for drinks. I was offered a piece of chicken and beef from the kitchen while I'm self-serving at the salad bar. However the beef was very chewy and the grilled vegetables were soggy. Hope the ingredients could have been fresher enough at lunch hours.

Such a little gem! Didn't know the buffet was only mon-thurs lunch so we went on a Saturday night and was pleasantly surprised by the Columbian menu on offer. Had all three specials on the wall and a chicken burrito. Standout dish as definitely the Ajiaco - chicken corn and potato soup served with seasoned rice and avocado. Such as surprising knockout! I dont work in the city so don't know when I can come for the buffet but the soup alone can bring me back.
Oh yes the server who greeted us was so helpful in explaining the menu as well. This place will do well!

Real South american flavour. Don't forget to try the juices too

The Burrito Experience. It is only once every few millennia when moments like this occur. When the Chilean Andeans effortlessly produce the most luscious of avocados after a gentle caressing over the wet season. When the finest Argentinean beasts dine only on the freshest empanada’s as they tenderize in the gentle shade of the country’s oldest Qubracho tree. When the greatest living Mariachi artists gather to play their rhythmic Son Jaliscience to an oven full of tortillas. It is only at this moment, when all the stars in the cosmos have aligned, that you will be presented with a burrito as delicious as the ones at Per Kilo. That thing is seriously so delicious you could almost believe a Galapagos turtle has swum it the whole way here, with a vacuum sealed, purpose built burrito transportation device especially for you... but that is just ridiculous because it is so big that there is no way he could carry that thing by himself... maybe if his cousins helped him he could get it here... that would be the only way.

Good Service, Authentic Food. If you want to know what Latin American food tastes like then Per Kilo is a very good option to do so; I have been there around 5 times and the quality of the food is excellent.

Try the Lulo juice. It is the best 4 Dollars juice.
