Review French Riviera Icecreamery - Sydney

Looks can be deceiving! My wife and I were meandering down the streets of Double Bay one hot Saturday afternoon and we thought it would be a great time for an ice cream. After looking for a local place we found French Riviera. From the outside it looks like a store from the eighties but we took a chance! And we were so glad we did. The ice cream took me back to my childhood, delicious, well portioned but doesn’t leave a sick aftertaste. I find some of the chain gelato and ice cream places do! On top of this, really well priced and the owner was the cutest guy ever! He may have been the owner but even if he wasn’t his generosity and warmth were evident. I rarely write such long reviews but this was such a fantastic find I had to let the world know. We can’t wait for our next visit to this French Riviera ❤️

Used to go here 25 years ago and we recently took the kids back for an ice cream. Although it’s moved to a slightly different location it’s just the same great ice cream, awesome hospitality and friendly (generous) service. Sometimes old school is best.

I have been coming to this place for many years with my family, and my parents have been coming since over 30 years ago when it opened. The home made ice cream is absolutely delectable. John Paul is always there with smile and he enjoys talking to anyone who visits his shop. Highly recommend this place if you enjoy ice cream.

Sydney is packed with great ice cream and gelato places, but this is definitely one of my favourites! The ice creams here are so yummy, they have flavours like Tim Tam, Mars, hazelnut and lots of other classic flavours (choc, vanilla, mango sorbets etc). And most importantly: the owner is generous and super friendly! This place is legendary!!

Natural ice cream that doesn’t make you feel ill! Delicious creamy flavour and beautiful generous owner, a real gem! ❤️

Stumbled across this little shop in an alley way, the owner was extremely kind and welcoming. We had asked to try 2 flavours before making a decision and he gave a generous amount. He gave both of us an extra flavour to try with our purchase and gave 2 scoops of each flavour for both of us and it was only $10. HIGHLY RECOMMEND his service was 10/10 and the ice cream was even better !!!

A little bit of nostalgic experience here. Used to go here back in uni days, about 10+ years ago and they were a really great place, buzzing with people and great stacked ice creams. And I remembered that the ice cream was great and delicious. Unfortunately, it wasn't the case nowadays, still good ice cream, but there are plenty of better competitions lately. The owner is still very friendly and energetic. Will still come back for the nostalgic value.

Another 5 stars for this awesome place. The owner is French. He loves his job and you can feel it in his home-made ice cream. I'll definitely come back ! I recommend this little shop, it's a must try 😋

If you want real ice cream you gotta come to this place the flavours are bold, beautiful and rich. Sometimes when you eat something you can tell if its a quality product and in this case it truely is. Served by a lovely old gentleman who is very friendly. Situated just off the street in the alley way a bit out of sight but well worth the visit if you are in the area. Don’t miss out! You won’t be disappointed!

An institution in Double Bay, this current location lacks the seating capacity but is still the same quality ice creamery. Don't delay visit today!

This used to be a bigger shop in a nearby place many years ago. We used to come here many years ago. The French owner is always nice. Ice cream and sorbet always satisfying. Price is standard. Its a smaller shop now with limited seats.

Lovely gelato place in Double Bay! Generous serving sizes at reasonable prices with lovely ambiance. Aside from the delicious ice cream (I love Tim tam), the French owner is the sweetest! He loves to have customers enjoying his ice cream
This place is a hidden gem in double bay. Love the pear sorbet. It's so refreshing and light(: The French owner is so nice. He let us try a lot of flavours and I love them all!

This place serves the best ice cream ever owned by the sweetest man! Highly recommend the yoghurt and Tim Tam flavors! I would definitely return for more.

The best little ice-cream joint for that late-night sweet craving!
The owner is very generous with his portions and doesn't shy from squishing and heaping ice cream on to your cone/cup.
I love that the ice cream is made in house- the shining glory of the lot is by far the pear gelato. Subtle, light, refreshing and the perfect after dinner compliment.
My only gripe is the lack of air conditioning or even fan! Come summer it can be almost scorching inside!

The worst place anyone can go...very very bad service. The old man there just slam the door close while we were waiting for the cafe to be opened. He cursed at us and he was angry that we were waiting for the cafe to be opened. We just left the place disgusted

A good old ice cream spot. Went there last friday night. It was pretty quite and the owner, the french man was so generous that he gave us 8scoops of ice cream instead of 4 in the Tahitienne menu. He is a lovely guy and My fave is the Ginger & Lemon Sorbet!
